The document discusses research conducted for a magazine project. The researcher surveyed their target audience to determine the most popular artists, which were Ed Sheeran, Florence and the Machine, and the Arctic Monkeys. They then researched how similar magazines presented these artists to inform their own design challenges. Specifically, the researcher found these artists had been effectively promoted through magazines like Q, NME, and Rewind. The researcher analyzed conventions from these magazines to challenge norms in their own magazine's design.
The document provides an evaluation of a media studies project. It summarizes how the media product uses forms and conventions of real media, including using silhouettes to create a visual identity for the band like real artists. It challenges conventions by creating an intimate connection between viewer and artist rather than togetherness. Feedback showed the storyline could be clearer. The student learned audience feedback is important to understand who characters are. Media technologies like Photoshop, Premiere and blogging were used effectively in the research, planning, construction and evaluation stages.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conv...deaox
The media product uses some conventions of real magazines such as cover lines to attract audiences, layout of the front cover with masthead at the top and headline at the bottom, and images depicting events at clubs. However, it also develops conventions by using photos of clubbers "taken by others" to create audience identification. The product challenges conventions by using a more informal language style to attract a different audience, not showing images that negatively portray females or objectify them as some magazines do, and aiming for a more female audience rather than male. It only depicts lights in images rather than artists, DJs, etc.
The document summarizes how the media products created for a music promotion use and develop conventions of real media products in the alternative rock genre. Specifically, the music video, magazine advertisement, and digipak incorporate the prominent use of black and white seen in other alternative rock media. Costumes, lighting, and locations in the video feature black and white. One scene in the video uses a point-of-view shot, which challenges conventions but fits the mood. The products also follow conventions like mixing narrative and band performance but feature unusual images like a doll to make them more original.
For construction, the student used Macromedia Fireworks to build most products and iMovie on a Mac to edit video footage. Research involved using video sites like YouTube and music sites to find music samples and images. Planning was done through creating a storyboard in PowerPoint and uploading it to SlideShare. Media technology also helped with font selection and evaluation through peer feedback.
The document describes the use of various media technologies at different stages of a film project. During construction, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign were used to design posters and experiment with image and text layouts. Templates were created in Photoshop and InDesign during the planning stage to help with composition. Adobe Premiere was used to edit film trailers and add transitions and titles, while After Effects was used to design titles and experiment with fonts and effects. Soundtracks were also researched to fit the theme of the film.
The document discusses different definitions of creativity from various sources and asks the student to reflect on whether their AS and A2 projects demonstrated creativity based on these definitions.
The student explains that their AS and A2 projects counted as creativity according to Gauntlett's definition, which focuses on producing work that communicates or expresses messages to an audience. For their A2 music video specifically, they aimed to express wealth through props and jewelry choices.
The student also believes their work demonstrated creativity based on Robert's definition, which emphasizes clear purpose, originality, and independent/imaginative work processes. They planned and produced their projects independently.
While set briefs provided some constraints like time limits, the student had

The document provides feedback from an audience focus group on a trailer created by the student. The focus group provided mixed feedback, noting things that worked well but also areas for improvement. The student made changes based on this feedback, including adding music to fit the pace of the footage and including a voiceover to better convey the plot. Additional focus groups and social media feedback were also gathered and incorporated into further revisions of the trailer and other promotional materials to improve them. The student learned the importance of audience feedback to strengthen media products.
The document is a production log for a student's film project. It details the various stages of planning and production, including: developing initial ideas and researching influences; creating mood boards and style sheets; conducting audience research; storyboarding and planning shots; recording footage and sound effects; and editing the film trailer and poster. The student provides reflections on their process and progress, noting things that went well and could be improved upon. They experiment with different visual effects, color grading, and distortions to achieve the intended "found footage" aesthetic for the horror film trailer and poster.
As a group, Amelia and Siobhan created a poster to advertise a new album on short notice. They followed Amelia's original poster design, working together as a team. The poster features the band's name in large text, photos of the band members, the album title in a banner, and reviews from magazines. It incorporates elements commonly found on music posters like the album cover to appeal to their target audience of 11-16 year old girls. In the end, Amelia was pleased that their collaborative poster design conformed to pop genre conventions.

The document summarizes the feedback received from audiences on the student's media production project. The feedback validated that the student successfully portrayed the intended creepy, fast-paced style of the music video by not following typical music video conventions. Viewers commented that they enjoyed the unconventional pace and tone. The student learned that receiving audience feedback is helpful to understand how others interpret their work and how to critique others' productions, and that achieving the goals they set out with validates their creative choices.
The document provides an evaluation of a student's media coursework project. It summarizes how the student's media product used and challenged conventions of horror film trailers, posters, and magazines. It also discusses how the student incorporated feedback into improving the project, such as speeding up some shots for increased tension. New media technologies like Photoshop, iMovies, and Blogger were used at different stages of production and to showcase the final work.
This document provides an evaluation of Adam Lepard's film production project (FMP). It summarizes his initial research ideas, subject research, audience research, proposal, problem solving, experiments, pre-production, production, editing, and aesthetic qualities. His original idea was a horror film set at a house party exploring themes of love and fate. However, due to restrictions from the coronavirus pandemic, he had to film with his family and create an alternate one-scene production. Through extensive planning and experimentation, he was able to effectively produce a horror scene on a limited budget. The evaluation reflects on both the successes and areas for improvement in his project.
My media product uses and develops conventions of horror film trailers, posters, and magazines. It includes scary scenes and establishes tension to attract audiences. While incorporating common horror elements like dark tones and scary imagery, it also challenges conventions by having the actor look away from the house in the poster. Feedback suggested speeding up some shots for more tension and shortening one scene. New media technologies like Photoshop, iMovies, and blogs were used at all stages for creation, research, planning, and gathering audience evaluation.
The document discusses feedback received for three final products - a film trailer, poster, and magazine cover. For the trailer, feedback suggested focusing on urban themes rather than classical horror and using a chronological narrative. This led to changes incorporating modern environments and ordered storytelling. For the poster, minor changes were made like altering the title color and adding names. The magazine cover underwent the most changes based on feedback, such as photoshopping the model into a professional setting and choosing a unique color scheme and font design inspired by the feedback. Overall, the feedback helped provide direction, identity, and appeal for the final projects.
This document provides an evaluation of a media product created by Beth Oliver. It summarizes the sources of inspiration for the ideas in the music video, including other indie music videos that featured forest locations, superhero/villain concepts, and costume designs. Audience research was conducted and feedback was incorporated. The print products like the digipak were designed to link to the music video through similar imagery and promoting the artist. Original fonts and photos were used to make the print products fitting of the genre but unique.
Zoe Ramsdale-Clark discusses the role of digital technology and creativity in producing her foundation and advanced portfolios over two years. She used the internet for research, Adobe InDesign to design a music magazine, and Adobe Premiere and YouTube tutorials to edit her music video. A Canon DSLR camera was used to take photos for the magazine and film footage for the video, allowing creative decisions based on her target audience.
The document contains a 7 question questionnaire about a music video by Elikem and Nerissa. It asks about the genre, favorite camera angles and their reasons, if the settings, costumes and makeup fit the genre, potential additions or changes, who the video would appeal to most, an overall rating out of 10, and room for additional comments.
Nerissa evaluated audience feedback on her media studies project by having viewers complete a questionnaire after watching the video. Mostly, feedback was positive about the professional quality of the final production. Viewers responded well to the creative props, makeup, and costuming, especially the memorable "box idea". However, some noted that the syncing was slow at times. Younger audiences focused on the star's physical portrayal, while older viewers commented less on appearance. Overall, the feedback helped Nerissa identify strengths and areas for improvement if doing the project again.

ESSAY QUESTION 2
1. Media Studies
Question 2 of 4
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary
texts?
On the completion of our main music video production, I started work
on the two ancillary tasks, the CD digipack and a promotional
magazine advert for the CD. After the extensive research I did before
the production was carried out, I had to do similar research again for
the ancillary tasks, however, this time focusing on different aspects
than I previously did. For example, whereas before looking at industry
work involved analysing shot types, costumes, and locations, for the
paper based productions, I concentrated studying their colour
schemes, font types and compositions for specific genres. On the day
of filming, we

however, more in
depth research was done after the shoot in order to clarify the use of
typography and layout.
As I carried out both primary and secondary analysis for the ancillary
tasks, I was able to get an idea of how I would use successful
conventions of print promotions, whilst also incorporating my own
ideas, without contradicting the star persona of the artist or the pop
genre. The album cover had to reflect themes shown in our video as
well as the star image so as to create a sense of continuity. In addition
to looking at the actual CD’s and their designs, I also researched some
various artists and fashion photographers to get a wider spectrum of
influence. One particular photographer who stood out to me amongst
the others was Rankin, as the concepts in his work represented the
ideology for the image that I wanted to create in my work. After
sketching out my various designs for the front cover of the album, I

narrowed it down to three that I thought were the best in terms of
creativity and innovative ideas.
CAPTION: Here are
some examples of the
attempts I made at
creating the album
cover. I decided
against these as I felt
that they portrayed
conflicting ideas than I

out some other ideas, I
concluded that the use
of effects and image
modification should not
sacrifice the
representation of the
star, therefore, my final
piece allows a star
persona to be seen
more clearly, due to
less extreme
adjustments to our
pictures.
After deciding on the images, I did numerous amounts of
experimenting using Adobe Photoshop in order to enhance the
images, and relate them back to the abstract theme throughout my
work. Through the process of trial and error, I was able to come to a
conclusion on which effects worked well with each other, and how
they portrayed specific aspects of the star’s image. Genre
representation is very important to help create meaning, and also to
make pop recognisable. Although I wanted to make the style of the
CD and magazine advert reflective of the pop genre, I wanted to
avoid a déjà vu image, instead bringing novel ideas into my work. I
also tried to incorporate other conventions that would typically be
found on a hard copy of the album, such as the production company,
date of release, distribution, barcode and reference numbers in order
to make my work as professional and realistic as possible by
conforming to major institutional codes. I also wanted to keep in
conjunction with recent promotional trends and developing media
technologies, which is why I decided to advertise the artist’s website at
the same time. Despite this, I opted not to include features such as a
track list, as I felt that this would take away from the mysterious,

would be better to put the track list inside the album booklet.

Our Production Ideas greatly, and I feel
that by using the
software to my advantage, I was able to create a more expert final
production, instead of the outcome I would have achieved on another
programme such as Microsoft Publisher. I also tried to utilise the
technology available on InDesign, however, I found that Adobe
Photoshop was much more beneficial to me. I had many attempts
before I settled on my final design, which was chosen as I thought that
the image suited the genre I am supposed to be representing, whilst
reflecting my own creative flair. The main reasons behind my decision
on my final design lie in the fact that if this were to be
a real industry piece, I feel that compared to others
in the pop genre it would stand out and appeal to a
wide variety of audiences.
In terms of the magazine advert, it was a much
easier process than producing the CD digipack.
Traditional magazine promotions include an image
of the album cover, and the date of release. With
more in depth research, I found that some industry
advertisements also included page numbers or
motifs that would make the magazine itself
recognisable, critic reviews, prices and where they CAPTION: This was

4. Media Studies
Question 2 of 4
Overall, I feel that all of my productions work quite well together in that
they portray a sense of continuity. I have tried to keep themes and
motifs the same throughout so that the artist can be relatable, and
instantly become recognisable when amongst others in the same
genre. In the productions I tried to be reflective of the pop genre, whilst
adding new elements so that the target demographics would be kept
interested. I think that the combination of the print productions and the
music video itself is quite an effective one, as they all show individuality,
whilst at the same time linking into one another to portray a consistent
image. Examples of constant themes include the use of colour
schemes, font types, imaginative images, and I also tried to
incorporate another promotional technique used in the industry in the
form of trade-marking, shown in the idea of glow sticks. In terms of the
marketing and promotional techniques I have integrated, I feel that it
was quite effective in achieving a successful star persona as I tried to
think of creative ways that I could sell and relate the artist’s image to
the target audience. Abstract, eccentric glamour was the key
ideology for our production, and I think that this has been clearly
depicted throughout both the main and ancillary tasks.
