Essay on Opera
Imagine you are in a darkened theater and on stage are the actors. Behind the actors you can see
the scenery. Down in front of the stage, in what is called the pit, is an orchestra and a conductor.
As the orchestra plays, the actors on stage do not speak their lines they sing them!
Opera is the combination of drama and music. Like drama, opera embraces the entire spectrum of
theatrical elements: dialogue, acting, costumes, scenery and action, but it is the sum of all these
elements, combined with music, which defines the art form called opera.
Operatic dramas are usually serious, but there are several comic operas and funny scenes in tragic
operas. The music is usually complicated and difficult to sing well. Only the most skillful ... Show

Jean Philippe Rameau, George Frederic Handel, and Christoph Willibald Gluck were the most
significant opera composers of the first two thirds of the 18th century. However, their works were
surpassed by the brilliant operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the early 19th century,
Gioacchino Rossini and Gaetano Donizetti dominated Italian opera. In the later 19th century the
greatest works were those of Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner. Wagner, with his bold
innovations, became the most influential operatic figure since Monteverdi. Richard Strauss and
Giacomo Puccini wrote the most popular late 19th and early 20th century operas. Though the
death of Puccini in 1924 is often cited as the end of grand opera, new and often experimental
works by composers such as Alban Berg, Benjamin Britten, Gian Carlo Menotti, John Adams, and
Philip Glass continued to be produced to critical acclaim. Opera entered the 21st century as a
vibrant and global art form.
The first roots of modern opera first appeared in Italy in the 17th century from the Camerata (an
academy of Florentine poets, musicians, and scholars). The Camerata, inspired by ancient Greek
drama, sung dialogues and choruses which were accompanied by musical instruments. The
Camerata developed the stile recitative, in order to integrate drama, action, dialogue and narration.
In this sung speech, a singer delivered a recitative melody with an actor s dramatic and oratorical
skills, achieving the goal of providing

Importance Of Citadel In Beowulf
First question: What the heck is a citadel? A citadel is basically a type of fortress on high ground
that is heavily fortified to protect its city. The walls were seven to thirty feet in thickness and
typically thirty to forty feet high (Kalif 1). This helped the walls provide a solid defense. The
Citadel had many parts to it to provide a solid defense against an invasion force. The keep, or
citadel, was perched at the top of the hill, looking down on the city it protects and helping keep a
lookout for enemies. Well, what are the parts of the citadel? The wall is the first defense. This
separated the citadel into three parts: city, military and noblemen, and the keep. They typically had
arrow slits for archers to shoot out of, while

Compare And Contrast The Social Norms By Sharon Jayson
To and extent I agree with Sharon Jayson and what she has to say about millennials not
conforming to society s standards as well as their approval. It is true that our social norms are
unraveling, however I choose to see it as unraveling to create something new. The social norms
are adapting to fit the new society that is changing the normal and becoming something
different. The world is changing, people no longer care to please others and achieve their approval.
We wear what we want to wear, we say what we want to say, we do what we want to do, and we do
it all with pride posting it on social media to share with anyone who chooses to view it. Of course
not all what people say or do is for the best, but there s a difference between the last

Patent Protection Research Paper
How to File a Utility Patent
If you want to learn how to file a utility patent, you ll want to first consider your options. While
you can certainly file a utility patent on your own, you ll want to do your research to figure out if
hiring a patent attorney can help you be successful in your utility patent application.
A utility patent protects a product s method, manufacturing, and/or system that is used in the
making and use of the product. A majority of patent applications are in fact utility patent
applications. With that being said, this type of patent can be rather time consuming and costly to
obtain. It will really depend on the type of invention you have, and if you just want it patented

Many inventors benefit from filing for provisional patent protection if they have not yet completed
production of their invention or need additional time to determine next steps on their new
invention. Maybe you re an inventor who cannot afford to pay the costs associated with filing for
patent protection. In that case, you can pay a
nominal fee to obtain protection for one year after which point you will then have to decide if
filing for non provisional protection is the next appropriate step.
For those who wish to obtain non provisional protection without having filed an application for
provisional protection, you ll want to visit the USPTO website to first identify what steps are
needed when filing for protection. Now, you ll move onto
Step 3.
Step 3: Do Your Research
You ll want to do an extensive amount of research before filing for the non provisional patent
application. You ll not only want to research the different types of fees you ll incur when filing
for protection, but you ll also want to familiarize yourself with the process including the length of
time it could take to obtain protection, any potential issues you may face along the way, deadlines
to file, legal fees, and other professional fees should you choose to seek help when filing for

Female Characters in Hamlet
Introduction
Shakespearean tragedy is a story of one, or at most two persons. As a rule, they are male
protagonists. But to say that Shakespeare s female characters are shallow, undeveloped and used
just as a decoration on the stage is very wrong. Women in Shakespeare s tragedies have no leading
role and they are, to paraphrase Northrop Frye,[1] not tragic heroines, but heroines in a tragedy.
All female characters in Shakespeare s tragedies have one thing in common they end up dead. It is
always an untimely, unnatural death. This rule (rather than coincidence) is a theme of many
debates among philologists, critics, psychologists, psychiatrists and philosophers.
As Hamlet is one of the most reflective Shakespeare s plays, the ... Show more content on

She had lost her mother, and has only a father and a brother, affectionate by worldly, to take care
of her. To the persons in the play, she brings the thought of flowers. Laertes names her Rose of
May , as he prays at her burial and the Queen murmurs Sweets to the sweet , as she scatters flowers
on the grave.
Some scholars believe that Ophelia s name which means succor in Greek, a seemingly
inappropriate designation for so victimized a character may have been used in error instead of
Aphelia, meaning simplicity or innocence . Both names were rare in Shakespeare s time.
Ultimately, Ophelia s insanity is the consequence of the actions of others, and she is unquestionably
a victim of the tragic events that beset Denmark throughout the play. [5]
Ophelia and male characters in Hamlet Ophelia s affection for her brother is shown in two or
three delicate strokes. Her love for her father is deep, though mingled with fear. For Hamlet she
has, some say, no deep love and perhaps she is so near childhood that old affections have still the
strongest hold; but certainly she has given to Hamlet all the love which her nature is yet capable.
Beyond these three beloved ones she seems to have eyes and ears for no one. Her existence is
wrapped up in these three.
On this childlike nature and on Ophelia s inexperience everything depends. Her father and brother
are jealously anxious for her because of her ignorance and innocence; and we resent

Analysis Of The Book Moby Dick Starts
As the story of Moby Dick starts, Ishmael our narrator immediately establishes a direct
relationship with the reader through the famous line, call me Ishmael. And as the story begins
to unfold, the opening chapters paint us an image of who Ishmael is: a stoic young man, full of
sadness, and consumed by wanderlust. Yet this information only scratches the surface of who
our character truly is and the question can still be asked, Who really is this character that is
asking us to refer to him by his first name? By doing a close reading of chapter 68 The Blanket,
we are given examples of how Ishmael thinks about and views his surroundings, which help give
us insight to who he really is. Ishmael is more than just a friendly narrator, but rather a very deep
and perceptive character. A philosophical esque question is asked at the beginning of this chapter
by Ishmael, What and where is the skin of the whale? (Melville 274) Ask anyone where the skin
of an animal is that is in front of him or her and they would simply point downward to where the
animal is, exclaiming, right there on top. But Ishmael wants to know everything about the whale.
He wants to know about every layer and marking on the beast. In chapter 68 Ishmael talks about
the skin of the whale, calling it a blanket, for the whale is indeed wrapt up in his blubber as in a
real blanket. (Melville 276) And as the chapter continues, several details lace there way throughout
concerning how thick the whales

Things They Carried Rhetorical Analysis Essay

Writing 39A: Academic Essay
27 February 2015
The Truth to the The Things They Carried When reading Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried,
there were many truths that were presented and while some were actual facts, others were fictional.
The author uses the art of storytelling instead of mere recital of facts, generic when telling a war
story, as a way to express unexplainable emotions. O Brien shows that the truth is unimportant in
communicating human emotions through stories because there are some emotions that can not be
explained through mere facts. In his collection of short shorties, O Brien writes in a style that is
very vivid and often times causes the audience to find themselves accepting the events and details
of these stories as the truth. O Brien contrasts the truth to fiction by reminding the audience that
within these short stories, the details are not the truth and are there to demonstrate the human
emotions that can not be communicated as absolute facts. It is in the Good Form that O brien
presents the actual truth stating in his first sentence, It s time to be blunt, and goes on to say that

O Brien addresses the reader in Good Form by saying, I want you to feel what I felt. I want you
to know why story truth is truer sometimes than happening truth. This is the philosophy on which
The Things They Carried is written on. O Brien s point is not that the truth is unimportant, but
that in fictionalizing the truth, the reader can more wholly experience the human emotion not
necessarily based on fact. For example, at the end of Notes , O Brien writes, Norman Bowker was
in no way responsible for what happened to Kiowa. Norman did not experience a failure of nerve
that night. He did not freeze up or lose the Silver Star for valor. That part of the story is my

The Pros And Cons Of Network Neutrality
Network neutrality is something that almost all people have an opinion on. Very few people could
think about the idea of all information on the internet being neutral, without getting an instant
opinion. The idea that companies, government, and organizations would have the ability to sensor
and choose what comes up on any internetsearches. The two sides are as stated: everything that
comes up on the internet should be unbiased (thus resulting neutral ). The other side states that the
internet, companies, etc should be able to use our past internet searches to help us and make the
results more relatable our lives. This concept, that most don t think about, has been debated for

Predestination to Choose
Perspectives on Church
Predestined to Choose First, predestination must be defined so that a contrast can be made with
free will. Predestination is the divine foreordaining of all that will happen. Predestination deals
with the question of the control God has over the world, it also refers to the belief that God
appointed the eternal destiny of some (the elect) to salvation by grace, while leaving the remainder
(the reprobate) to receive eternal damnation for all their sins. Free will, However, will be defined to
mean a person which has the ability and awareness to choose whether they will accept Jesus Christ
as their Savior or not. By trying to understand what scripture has to say on free will and
predestination, and analyzing what other theological thinkers say, brings up the question, can one be
more accurate than the other? What we believe as Christians does (and should) affect how we live.
How Christians view the relationship between divine sovereignty and human freedom has a direct
bearing on how they respond to various issues in their lives. For example, [T]he missionary
candidate who is having difficulty raising her support. She may believe God is closing the door to
her present plans and leading her in another direction. ... Another [may] conclude that he is not
working hard enough to raise the money herein lies the issue of which is correct free will or
predestination, and can one concept be proven over the other. Believing in predestination is the

Batteries And Its Effects On The World
Batteries. Possibly one of the most unappreciated inventions in the world. They re see strewn
around your home, just lose and debatably old or new. We couldn t power a toy truck nor a
hearing aid without them yet we disrespect the honor of one of the most genius and important
inventions in history. Batteries are very important but is there anything we can replace it with
possibly, ourselves? Well, first we need to know what exactly a battery actually does. The first
true battery was invented by Alessandro Volta, an Italian physicist, in 1800. Batteries are a mass
of one or more cells whose chemical reactions create a flow of electrons in a circuit. Batteries
contain three basic parts: electrodes, an electrolyte, and a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The anode is known as the reducing agent, because it loses electrons. But do we know what it
means for a battery to be dead? Well, as the anode and cathode are connected to a circuit and a
chemical reaction takes place between the anode and the electrolyte, the reaction causes electrons to
race through the circuit and back into the cathode where another chemical reaction takes place.
When the material in the cathode or anode gets to the point where it is consumed or no longer able
to be used in the reaction, the battery is unable to produce electricity. At that point, your battery is
officially considered dead (Hymel 2016). More recently, in 1980, an American physicist Professor
John Goodenough invented the lithium battery. As lithium is one of the lightest elements on the
period table and being its electrochemical potential is extremely high, the combination produces
some of the highest possible voltages in the most compact and lightest volumes (Alarco 2015).
There is an unfortunate decent balance between advantages and disadvantage for lithium batteries.
An advantage is that its low maintenance, therefore the batteries don t exhibit a phenomenon
known as the Memory Effect , of which in short is now used as a general term for anything that
makes a battery not deliver at its full capacity. A disadvantage of lithium batteries is the cost.

Puritans And Puritans Essay
The most known acts of cruelty in the power of the people are the various punishments dealt out by
the Puritans. Then you have the Quakers they weren t just men appearing on labels of oatmeal bins;
they were chosen to be on the label because the Quaker faith projected the values of honesty,
integrity, purity, and strength. However, the Puritans and Quakers both traveled to the New World
to escape religious prosecutions. John Winthrop, leading the Puritans, wanted a more purified state
and society, giving them the name, Puritans. William Penn, leading the Quakers, wanted to spread
their beliefs through themselves. They questioned leaders, resulting in leading themselves. Both
had different views of reconstructing a new society, religion, and government. Religion was
important to the Quaker and Puritans, but how far they took it made them different. Instead of
fighting to purify the Church of England, the Puritans just traveled to the New World. They settled
in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which is Boston today. They were able to start over and do it
the right way, but everyone had to practice the bible or be punished. In their purified eyes, the
Church back in England was embracing too many Catholic beliefs. Puritans had zero tolerance and
took religion very seriously, making them a theocracyafter leaving that in the first place. They were
led by John Winthrop. On the other hand, the Quakers were known as the friends. They believed
everyone had their own inner light

This essay will analyse the policies that the European Parliament has introduced to create and
endorse the notion of a common European historical memory. The main institutions that have dealt
with the issue are the European Council, European Parliament s Committee on Culture and
Education and the Directorate General for Internal Policies.
First I shall discuss the reasons behind the necessity for a historical memory in the European
context. I will then give an overview of current European Union practices on establishing a pan
European historical memory and of the existing political initiatives regarding a common European
historical memory. The main emphasis shall be on the Europefor Citizens ... Show more content on

Since the Eastern Enlargement, efforts to keep history alive are supported in particular by the
Europe for Citizens Programme launched in 2006. The European Commission has extended the
programme to 2014 2020 , which was presented in 2011. In the renewed programme, there is a
greater focus on remembrance and hence, a critical European culture of remembrance , rather than
a standardised view on Europe s past, is argued for.
2.The development of the Europe for Citizens Programme and the actors involved
The common European values influence the narrative and the creation of a certain culture of
remembrance. In supranational context, the two memory frameworks dominating official EU
discourses for the creation of a common European historical memory are Nazism and Stalinism.
These two regimes and their policies embody an absolute contrast to the ideals embraced in the
European project: peace, freedom, democracy, the rule of law, human rights, civil liberties and the
right to individual self determination. The aim of remembrance policies is an informed and self
critical European historical memory. This is done with shared European principles and
universalised practices as a basis, while acknowledging the multiplicity of different national pasts at
the same time. In other words, it would not be a homogenisation of the contents of different
collective memories, but rather a Europeanisation of moral and political attitudes and practices

Treatment Of Veterans With Suds And Co Occurring...
The VA runs the largest substance use disorder treatment program in the world. Treatment of
veterans with SUDs and co occurring psychiatric disorders is one of the following three paradigms;
parallel, sequential, and integrated. Most VA programs are parallel, where the patient receives
treatment for SUD in one program and treatment for PTSDin another. Many SUD PTSD veterans
may be unable to navigate the separate systems or make sense of the disparate messages about
PTSD treatment and recovery. One challenge to dissemination and implementation of EBTs is that
of dual disorders, particularly SUD and PTSD. These patients use costly inpatient services, tend to
have frequent relapses, and are less likely to adhere to or complete treatment.
Cook, Walser, Kane, and Woody (2006) did a study that had a goal of getting clinicians to accept
Seeking Safety and evaluate its efficacy when treating veterans, in hopes of bridging the gap of
parallel services at the VA to treat comorbid SUD PTSD. This study reinforced the old ways of
cannot teach an old dog new tricks because of how difficult it is to influence clinician behavior in
routine medical care. A more passive approach was taken via a daylong interactive staff training in
Seeking Safety, where clinicians were informally surveyed on their willingness to co lead groups
with the study. Four therapists volunteered. And thus, four Seeking Safety groups were formed
with 25 veteran volunteers whom had comorbid SUD PTSD. Of those, 18

Study for Plenitude revealed positive aspects that included appreciating the continual release of

based upon the large product line that continually offered new products creating confusion and

Model Of A Soup Pan
What do you think of when you hear pre 1950 s music? Do think of Frank Sinatra? Ella
Fitzgerald? T Bone Walker? Well a thing all three of them have in common is that they influenced
and were influenced by the culture at the time. A great model that can represent the culture
changing at the time is my model of a souppan. The soup pan is not perfect by any means, as in my
opinion it is impossible to perfectly show how American culturechanged throughout the 1900 s.
One way a soup pan represents cultural changeis how sub or fringe culture can be added to the
overall culture. The soup changes as society adds ingredients to it. If we add a carrot and onion to
a tomato soup, it is not really tomato soup anymore. It is. . .tomatonionarrt soup?... Show more

For example like how classical music does not really affect today s music, classical music had
been strained out of the pot and pushed aside. Classical music is still there however, some
people might not want the soup, maybe they want to go over to the raw ingredients and eat
them. They would be weird, but they can. Another idea that supports this model is that when
new generations are born they might not like the soup being made so they slowly while mom
and dad are not watching change the soup slightly to fit their palate. As social politics
progressed some of the music that was rooted in either racism or misogyny. The new generation
of people changed the definition of how to be popular. Out went the old fashioned older white
man classical musicians and in came the younger more diverse group of singers like Ella
Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald would not of been able to be popular/as popular if not for the progression
of the United State s social society. White society started to recognize African Americans as people

company that you are fit to be hired, and to introduce yourself to them. The audience of a cover
letter is the manager of a business or company. The purpose is to introduce yourself to a potential
employer and to highlight any relevant skills you possess. The structure of a cover letter includes
your address, the date, the recipient s address, and a salutation. The opening paragraph states why

Macbeth Vs Lady Macbeth
Lady Macbeth is filled evil schemes, and knows how to achieve her goal of getting her husband
into the kingly position. Lady Macbeth is very convincing in her ideas, and does not leave a lot
of space to think otherwise. Macbeth is not left much choice but to conform himself to his wife
s mischievous strategy to get him to become king. He is very loyal, and wants to remain so to
his king even knowing he would become king if Duncan, the present king, were to die. Lady
Macbeth, however, has other plans for Macbeth, and she soon has him convinced to commit an
act which will change their lives forever. Macbeth and his wife are truly opposite people, as
Macbeth is laid back and easy going, while Lady Macbeth wants everything planned out and will
go onward with plans no matter who they affect. She truly does make Macbeth a more
interesting person through her evil schemes. I have given suck, and know how tender tis to love
the babe that milks me. I would, while it was smiling in my face, have plucked my nipple from
his boneless gums, and dashed the brains out had so sworn as you have done to this

In this setting the case manager would work best using the role based case management model
and with their primary role to function as a generalist, This role, widely used in human service
delivery, focuses primarily on providing the services that can be delivered by a helper with
knowledge and skills applicable to a range of clients in various settings (Woodside, McClam,
2013. p 75 para 3); following the role of generalist the case manager would likely take on the
roles of counselor, care coordinator, problem solver, and record keeper. Under the role of
counselor and broker an intervention strategy that could be implemented is for the case
manager to meet with the individuals on their caseload and after completing an assessment
create a treatment plan that would help to resolve any barriers that the individual may be facing
that would hinder their ability to attend their medical appointments and strict regimen of
medications, the case manager would then continue to hold regular meetings with their clients
to ensure the individual treatment plan is being adhered to (Wohl, et al. 2011). The problem a
case manager may see while trying to help provide services to people living with HIV/AIDS
under the model of role based manager is that the case manager may be working for an agency
with very limited resources which can then severely restrict the benefit of the program and leave
the case manager feeling frustrated and overwhelmed and the though there may be a wide array
of services that may be needed, the agency can only afford to focus on the cheapest. If the agency
does happen to be well funded then the benefits of role based case management model mean that
the individual will only have the one contact person to reach out to and allows for a better
relationship to develop which makes for a more effective case manager (Woodside, McClam,

Copyright And Copyright Infringement Trials
Intellectual properties are anything that is created by the mind. This includes inventions, designs,
books, etc. Many people protect their intellectual by copyrighting their work. Copyrights are
trademarks or patents, and give the owners of the work the right to claim their work and protect it
from theft. Use or reference of famous work is permitted when it is for transformative or limited
use. This work be considered fair use and many copyrightinfringement trials have been dismissed
because of this. Copyrights are an important tool to ensure that copyrighted work that is referenced
mentions the original inventor, rather than stealing their inventionand claiming it as their own.

Trademark is a sign, design, or expression used in order to set a business apart. Trademarks serves
as two primary functions. The first is to provide protection to manufactures and traders by not
allowing unfair competition. It also protects customers from impersonations. Trademarks today are
governed on state and federal level. Trademarks today are considered property, meaning that
trademarks can be sold, inherited, or even leased as long as it is not the intent to fool the customer.
Patent:
A patent gives all rights to the inventor and prevents anyone else from making using and selling
their idea. There are three different types of patents. The first is the utility patent, which is the most
common type of patent. Utility patents has to do more so with

Elizabeth Freeman Research Paper
Elizabeth Freeman more commonly known as Mum Bett was born into slavery around the year
of 1742. She spent most of her childhood and early adult years as a slave to a man named John
Ashley and his wife, Hannah in Sheffield, Massachusetts alongside what historians believe to be
her sister Lizzie. That was until Hannah, the wife, tried violently attacking and abusing Freeman s
sister in 1781. Mum Bett reported the incident to a local abolitionist who then brought her case to
the courts. After a surprisingly short trial she became one of the first slaves to sue for her freedom
and became a key factor in the abolishment of slaveryin Massachusetts. Like most slaves of this
era, the exact time and place of the birth of Elizabeth Freeman is undocumented but Bett s is
estimated to be around 1742. Slaves were treated as cattle not humans, birthdays were only
important to their family and themselves. To the slave owners the only paper work that mattered
were the ones that lead to the purchase and selling of slaves that they could profit out of in some
way. However, what is documented is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Short Story The Seventh Man
There is no peace without forgiveness, a quote from Marianne Williamson. The short story, The
Seventh Man by Haruki Murakami tells the story of the seventh man, who as a young child lost
a friend to a large wave caused by a hurricane. He blames himself for K. s death and it haunts him
in the form of night terrors for many years. The seventh man eventually forgives himself, as he
should. Although, some believe the narrator shouldn t forgive himself as they see him as guilty.
Simplistically, this isn t accurate, and it s as plain as day to see when the following are taken
into consideration; intention, situation, and response. To start off, the seventh man s intention
plays a huge deciding factor in if he was guilty of, objectively speaking, killing, or causing the
death of, K. and consequently if he should forgive himself or not. Take The Scarlet Ibis for
example, a short story by James Hurst. The brother talks about his want to kill his crippled
brother Doodle from the very beginning and from then on he does nothing but harm, manipulate,
and push Doodle for years until he ultimately dies from the overexertion his brother forced upon
him. In contrast, for as long as the Seventh Man knew K. they were close, and the seventh man
looked out for and loved K. like a brother. Pertaining to his death, the seventh man had no control
over the wave(s) and he in no way deliberately decided to not save K.. He simply was unable to.
The seventh man never intended to hurt K., muchless cause his death, which whether or not he
caused it or not is arguable in and of itself, being a prime reason of why he should forgive himself.
On the contrary, some may say that the the seventh man shouldn t forgive himself as he is
responsible for K. s death. The evidence that supports this claim is on page 138 as it reads, I told
myself to run over to K., grab hold of him, and get out of there. The explanation of the quote,
forthrightly, being that the narrator could ve saved K. but he chose not too. This leads to two main
reasonings that support why the position that the seventh man should forgive himself is stronger
than the opposing argument. Them being; one, the seventh man s situation and instinctive response
in the moment, and

What doesn t kill you makes you stronger. Or that s at least what Kelly Clarkson says. However, I
highly disagree. For two long, straight years, I endured agonizing pain for what the doctors

Tycho Brahe Essay
Tycho Brahe is remembered for many things: his golden nose, his ignominious death, and his
famous last words. All of these things have gone down in history. However, Tycho Brahe was
well known in his time as a respected and well paid astronomer. His observations were second to
none. He was unsatisfiable and meticulous in his profession, building two of the finest
observatories of his time, the second because the first was not up to his own high standards. He is
still regarded as one of the best naked eye observationalists of all time (Burke Gaffney, 153).

Indeed, he wears a prosthetic in all of his most famous portraits. (Remmert, 25) .
Tycho began to gain fame as an astronomer after reporting on a new star in 1572. Tycho saw a
very bright star in Cassiopeia on November 11th, 1572. He fixed its position with regards to the
other stars in the constellation, and continued to observe it. It began to fade in brightness early
the next year, and was only as bright as Polaris within six months. He also reported on the color
changes, from brilliant white to yellow to red and back to red within that same six months (Hall
274). These careful observations helped springboard his career as an astronomer, and he published
his findings on De Nova Stella or the New Star in 1574.
His publication also tried to shed light on the astrological implications of this star. Tycho predicted
strong cosmic influences in Scandinavia and a new order in Europe. He also implied that he knew
how to better understand astrology, but made no attempts to either explain this better astrology in
writing or to give any sort of temporal indication for his new order. (Christianson, Comet 118 ).
His prominent station in Danish society left him in an awkward situation. He wanted nothing more
than to continue his studies of the heavens, but it was unheard of for a man of his status. He
therefore spent some time giving lectures at the University of Copenhagen. His talks centered on
the history of Astronomy, including that of

Machiavellian Government
Nicolo Machiavelli said of the prince, Everyone sees what you appear to be, few experience what
you really are. That is precisely what is happening in today s society with certain modern
governments. There is a great difference between the philosophy of modern governments and
kingdoms in the Renaissance. Machiavelli explains certain traits that every single ruler should have
to maintain his rule over his subjects. Modern day governments have exhibited certain forms of
Machiavellianism. Even though modern governments are not entirely Machiavellian, many
governments have established a certain version of Machiavellian governments. These are a few
important key terms to understand when taking a look at the compromise that governments have
established in modern times. These key terms include Machiavellianism, totalitarianism, and
illiberal democracy. Machiavellian governments have to meet certain benchmarks to qualify as a

Hydroelectric Dams and Floods Essay
Hydroelectric dams are essential to preventing floods. Many of these dams are located in places
that are bordered by water such as Mississippi and Ohio. Most dams are created to control river
flow, improve navigation, and regulate flooding. However, some dams are built to produce
hydroelectric power which is the case here (Smith).
How does hydroelectric dams work? There s a power source that is used to turn a piece called
turbine then turns a metal shaft to an electric generator, and that creates electricity. (Perlman) The
mechanical energy converts to electricity so the water flows through the dams. It could also work
without dams, which is a process known as diversion/ run of the river. Meaning, some of the
portions of the water from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Walker).
In 1882, the first use of moving water to produce electricity was a waterwheel on the Fox river in
Wisconsin. (Geoffrey). In 1886, there were about forty five water powered electric plants in the
United States and Canada. Hydropower continuted to play a huge role in the electrical service. A
long time ago hydroelectric power plants were so much more efficient and reliable. Over the years
the environmental like hydro projects are being identified for concern. It s becoming a problem to
build new dams because of opposition from environmentalists and people living on the land that s
flooded. (Geoffrey). In 2003, ten percent of the United States electricity comes from hydropower.
There s about eighty thousand MW of comventional capacity and eighteen thousand MV of pumped
storage.
Some environmental impacts the hydroelectric power plant may give off qualities of the
greenhouse gases equal to other sources of energy. The most obvious impact of hydroelectric
dams is the flooding of vast areas of lands previously forested or used in agriculture (Geoffrey).
Damming a river could cause the quality and amount of water in the river to downstream. That
causes the fishes to stop migrating upstream to spawn. You can reduce these impacts by requiring
little flows downstream of a dam. You could also build fish ladders, that allows the fishes to move
upstream. A slit is normally carried downstream to the lower ground of the

Triangle Shirt Waist Fire, By Isaac Hayes And Max Blank
Triangle Shirt Waist Fire Only fifteen minutes away from being released after a hard day s
work, to enjoy a Saturday evening with their families and the promise of a nice Sunday off, 146
workers would lose their lives in New York City s worst factory fire ever. When the smoke was
gone and the fires extinguished, 146 workers of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory lay dead from a
senseless tragedy that could have been prevented. When all the bodies were accounted for it was
determined that fifty three had died by Jumping from the eighth, ninth, and tenth floors. Nineteen
fell to their deaths in the elevatorshaft while trying to escape the fire. More than twenty workers
would die when the overloaded fire escapes collapsed beneath their feet, sending them falling to
their deaths. The rest consisted of fifty workers who would become entombed within the ninth floor
burning to death before they could escape.
The Triangle Shirtwaist Company was owned and operated by Isaac Hayes and Max Blank. The
Triangle Company was the largest provider of the shirtwaist to the women of the New York area.
A shirtwaist is a traditional woman s blouse that resembles a button up shirt with sleeves. The
shirtwaist incorporated a blouse with buttons, a collar and a seam at the waistline which drew the
garment in. The shirtwaist was a stand alone item and sometimes was attached to a dress. The

Computer Generated Imagery And Its Effects
Computer generated imagery was being developed during the 1980s and it soon started being
used in films for effects. Rickitt (2006) explains that effects during the 80s were not just there to
solve problems and producing impossible shots like their initial purpose but used as a marketing
tool for films to promote themselves based on the quality of the image and amount of visual effects
involved. Star Wars was the first filmto make use of this marketing tool and made people grow
more interest on the film itself as well as the effects and of course, this brought more income to
the studios. This trend of using effects to promote films was immediately picked up and abused,
but it did not last long. Tron (1982) was the first film based almost entirely on computer
generated scenery and massively advertised for them. However it ended up failing at the box
office even though it had superb computer generated effects at the time of its release. Rickitt
described that the failure of Tron could have been what made visual effects take longer to develop
and being incorporated in films. This was the first sign that a film heavily equipped with effects
does not mean that it would make a hit. Narrative is an important element of a film and effects
cannot compensate for a bad narrative (McClean, 2007).
After a decade of slow development, computer generated imagery made its appearance once more
in Jurassic Park (1993) and changed the opinions directors and studios regarding visual effects.

The Reflection Of The Fight For Social Justice
Social justice centers upon the standards of fairness, equality, admiration of diversity, and the
distribution of rights that cover all people. Social justice infers that all people must have equal
rights and opportunities, no matter their ethnicity, religion, or social/economic status. During the
1800s, people from all walks of life had to deal with some type of social injustice. Whether that be
discrimination against a particular race, slavery, or inequality. Although many social injustices have
diminished over time, it is disappointing to say, that the world is still suffers from injustices such as
poverty, inequality, etc. To achieve social justice
, I believe we the people must inquire about what
injustice is active and how it is affecting our community. With that being said, we need to educate
those who are not aware of the injustices that we are still suffering from both locally and globally.
Also as individuals, we can show love to those of other ethnicities, religions, cultures and other
backgrounds that may differ from our own. We as a nation must come together and partake in the
fight for social justice. To start, in order to gain social justice, we must first educate ourselves on
the injustice so we may be able to accurately inform others on the issue. The community cannot
make a positive impact unless we are knowledgeable of the problem. The best way to achieve this
goal is by conducting research, observance of our community and knowing the stats of

reveal the motives and unconventional practices of the food industry. Schlosser conveys his
purpose through the utilization of pathos, ethos, anecdotes and imagery as compared to Sinclair

Schlosser employs anecdotes in order to evoke emotion from his readers to achieve his purpose.
One anecdote the author includes is the story of Alex Donley, a six year old boy. Alex Donley
ate a tainted hamburger from Jack in the box that led him to become infected with E. coli
0157:H7 (Schlosser 200). This disease obliterated his entire body and progressed rapidly. Alex
died within five days. The author uses anecdotes such as Alex s to evoke sympathy and fear
from his readers, especially parents with young children. The stories make parents and anyone
who buys fast food reconsider what they are putting in their bodies for if a young boy can die
from a simple burger, then what s to prevent others, kids, or even one s self from becoming the
next victim in the vicious industry that is fast food? The use of anecdotes ultimately helps the
author unveil the beast that is the fast food industry by pulling on the heartstrings of Americans.
The author displays the harsh actuality of the fast food industry through the use of ethos. Schlosser

that the anecdotes and people that are mentioned throughout the book are people or stories the

Challenges Of The Transcontinental Railroad
The Transcontinental Railroad was a great engineering achievement that brought a more efficient
means of transportation from the Eastern United States to the Western United States. There were
many challenges for the development of a project that everyone agreed was necessary for the
development of the country. These challenges included a nation that was divided by the Civil War,
as well as how such a project could be financed and planned for. The completion of the
Transcontinental Railroad rapidly increased America s population in the West, and gave the
Country the ability to protect itself on boast the East and West Coasts. The expansion in the West
included taking over lands from the Native Americans who lived on the land. This was the
downside associated with the Transcontinental Railroad. The completion of the railroad brought
about a great appreciation for the contributions of the Chinese immigrants and allowed many to
improve their lives. The completion of the Transcontinental Railroad was a great accomplishment

Sir Phillip Sidney s Sonnet #47 from Astrophil and Stella...
Sir Phillip Sidney s Sonnet #47 from Astrophil and Stella
Sir Phillip Sidney s Sonnet # 47 from Astrophil and Stella The sonnet is a short concise form of
writing and it takes a great mind to master it. By mastering it, I mean to be able to say so much
in what seems like so little space. Sir Phillip Sidney comes as close to mastering it as anyone else
in his time or any other does. As the opening line says, this is about a betrayal. Strangely enough,
the last line of the sonnet ends with a word that is the very essence of betrayal. The sonnet ends
with the word, lie. This would cause one to expect to get an explanation of the betrayal between
the first and last lines. This appears to be a story of both love and betrayal. In the ... Show more

In the second, line is questions whether he wants the spirit to show that he despises his love. He
has wanted her for a long time and he is in misery without her, he is in this deep misery and the
only thing he has is his despise for begging. The third quatrain is different from the first two in
its format. The first line is indented and the other three are not. This would cause one to think
that this line is set apart for a reason. The first two words say why, it is an exclamation to wake
up. It is meant to stand out much like a mother coming into a child s room and yelling wake up
very early in the morning. Here, the narrator is telling Virtue within himself to awake. He wants
to do the right thing. He realizes that although this girl is beautiful, he does not love her and he
must let her go. It is not fair to hold on to someone in a relationship or in the words of the first
quatrain, keep someone a slave to you, if you do not love them. This is a commentary from over
four hundred years ago that is still true in relationships today. Today, people will date or stay
together in an unhealthy relationship for stupid reasons or superficial reasons and either one or
both of the people do not love the other. The last couplet, the closing lines of the sonnet, also tell the
story of relationships today. In the beginning of the relationship he thought that he may have been
in love with her.

Descriptive Essay About My New House
I looked back at my house, the green peeling paint on the door, the ripped screen door, the huge
window at the top of the house, from which you could see into my room, and I only had one
thought, this is no longer my home. I tore my gaze away from the house and entered the car. The
floor had so much of our boxes and suitcases, I was forced to lift my feet so I could fit. My
neighbors weren t home yet, so I wasn t able to say goodbye to them. I wished they were there. I
d always been really close with my neighbors. They took care of me when my sister was born,
and waited for my grandpa to take me to the hospital. I was especially close to the neighborhood
kids; ever since I could talk they came over almost every week. I wondered if my new
neighborhood would be like this. The engine vroomed to life and away from the beautiful, old
house we went. In less than ten minutes, we arrived at my new house. The front was undeniably
gorgeous. The grass was not the yellowish brown brought on from the drought, instead it was a
lively green that I had dreams about running in. The fall leaves around the trees enhanced the
feeling of Christmas soon to come and the stairs leading up to the front door were clean. They
had no muddy footprints that I was so used to seeing on my concrete. I walked up the steps
slowly. I had a half witted hope that if I moved slow enough I d end up back at the Azusa house. I
didn t move slow enough. I walked through the doorway and into a corridor type area

The Holocaust In The Film, The Pianist
1)Before Germany invaded Poland the Jewish and Polish life was normal. Wladek Szpilman was
the main character in the movie. The movie was called The Pianist because he played piano as a
hobby. In the movie it showed Wladek recording his music at the Polish Radio station. Then
Warsaw was air raided by the Germans who were trying to take over Poland. Wladek left the
station, while the Germans were raiding them, without knowing what was going on. Wladek went
back to his apartment where his family was where they discussed what they were going to do.
Later the Jews and Polish got a letter in the mail telling them they have to where the blue star of

I like the thought of growing a large amount of things and watching it grow over time and
showing it off to people that are driving by. I also like the harvest time. I like the thought of
harvesting all of the crop and seeing how well you did on making your decisions on whether you
used a good variety of the crop, or if the pesticide that you chose worked right, or even if you
made the right decision to get the crop out of the field at that time. Lastly the thought of putting
all of the work in to help the world is a good thought. Another thing that I would keep living for
is one of my most favorite hobbies of hunting. I enjoy all of the different seasons of hunting such
as Spring turkey, Fall turkey, pheasant, and deer seasons. I also have a goal to save money up
for the decoys and blinds for goose season in the future years. I like the weather of all the season
especially the ones in fall because it is nice cool weather. I also like sitting in nature and listening
to all of the surrounding animals making their noises. Hunting season is also a good time to relax,
especially after harvest season, and think about a lot of things. I also like to lure in the animal that

Comparing Allah and God Essay
Pakistan, 1986. Zahid was a Muslim priest who had been brought up to hate and kill those with
conflicting beliefs, especially Christians. He often persecuted Christians in town, feeling that by
doing so, he would please Allah (the Muslim god). One day when Zahid was persecuting
Christians, someone dropped a Bible. Rather than disposing of it, as he normally would have,
Zahid hung onto it because he felt compelled to read it and expose its errors. In short, Zahid
converted to Christianity and sharedthe Bible s teachings with everyone. As a result, he was
considered a traitor. Zahid began to experience much of the persecution he had carried out against
many Christians. For two years he was imprisoned, beaten, tortured, and eventually... Show more

Take, for example, the common trait of a monotheistic god who is creator, sustainer, and ruler of
the world. Allah, like the Christian God, is seen as the most powerful being in the world; no one
even comes close to comparing to him. Similarly, no one can share power with him. Both beings
also play a role in creation they not only created the world and everything in it, but also
constantly hold it together. Many people look at these similarities and, as a result, think the two
beings are same. By looking at each in greater detail, though, the differences quickly become
obvious. (al Araby 44; Haneef 13 14, 15).
Although both Allah and the Christian God are seen as monotheistic by their followers, Muslims
see the definition of a monotheistic deity a little bit differently. Or, looking at it another way,
Muslims do not understand the Christian doctrine of the Trinity. In Christianity, God is seen as
one, but at the same time as having three distinct persons the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:19 says, Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. A singular name is applied to the three
persons. Because this concept is impossible to grasp in its entirety, Muslims tend to see Christians
as pluralistic (worshipers of three gods) when, in fact, they are worshiping one. To Muslims, the
concept of a triune God does not fit in

Similarities Between Canada And Iceland
Migration, whether city to city or country to country has always existed and is even essential to
some countries. For an example of a country to country migration, also known as international
migration, we can do a comparison. Approximately 250, 000 people from various areas around
the world enter Canada each year 1, as opposed to the 2000 that go to Iceland.2 People migrate
seeking a better life and for more opportunities. Not all places can provide what people want or
even need. Let us take a look back at the Canada Iceland comparison. Canada has a drastically larger
number of immigrants than Iceland. Many reasons contribute to this increased amount of
immigrants, including Canada which provides: universal healthcare, access to education,... Show

Going into unfamiliar lands, often not even knowing the language is very stressful on the mind.
With no one to guide you, no one to talk to, and no one to share your thoughts with it will most
definitely cause loneliness. This loneliness will discourage the immigrant from even putting all
their effort in striving in this new life. This is all part of what an emotional barrier is. Before even
leaving their country, a person will most definitely think about their family. If they know they
cannot bring the people they care about most, it will reduce your willingness to move. Not only is
loneliness the only part of the emotional barrier, frustration is also included. The whole migration
/immigration process is hard. Having your whole fate in your government s hands, knowing they
could deny or stop you from migrating at any moment. That itself could cause anyone emotional
stress. People become extremely attached to those closest to them and even their homes. Having to
leave all that would make anyone emotional. Besides the mental challenges people face during
migration, they also have to face the physical

Lemur 3 Research Paper
The Lemur 3 robot designed by NASA s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) can takes advantage of
the same attractive forces that geckoes use to climb walls in order to perform tasks on the outside
walls of the International Space Station (ISS).
NASA envisions a day when its lizard robots may climb the walls of the ISS using grippers
inspired from nature. The Lemur 3 s feet will simulate the super adhesive feet of geckoes.
Scientists at the NASA s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California are developing
an innovative gecko gripper system that will allow robots to perform maintenance tasks in outer
space. They will inspect and repair the space station s exterior, as well as conduct a wide range of
space activities in Earth orbit. Recently, the American space agency has also released a video
describing the gecko space robot concept.

The gecko gripper robot Lemur 3 will work in pretty much the same way as the real gecko,
according to Parness. The team working on the project has created a material studded with synthetic
hairs much smaller than a human hair. This material adheres when it is pushed against a surface.
According to JPL engineers, the latest generation of grippers developed by their team can support
more than 150 Newtons of force. This numbers are big enough for the maintenance work tasks of
the future space robots, being the equivalent of 35 lbs. (16 kilograms).
The advantage of this gripping system over the tape is that it doesn t lose its stickiness over time
the way tape does. The researchers explained that this system should work well in all environments,
including the extreme conditions in the outer space. The gripping system developed by JPL team
will be able to withstand extreme pressures, temperatures, and

  • 2. Essay on Opera Imagine you are in a darkened theater and on stage are the actors. Behind the actors you can see the scenery. Down in front of the stage, in what is called the pit, is an orchestra and a conductor. As the orchestra plays, the actors on stage do not speak their lines they sing them! Opera is the combination of drama and music. Like drama, opera embraces the entire spectrum of theatrical elements: dialogue, acting, costumes, scenery and action, but it is the sum of all these elements, combined with music, which defines the art form called opera. Operatic dramas are usually serious, but there are several comic operas and funny scenes in tragic operas. The music is usually complicated and difficult to sing well. Only the most skillful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jean Philippe Rameau, George Frederic Handel, and Christoph Willibald Gluck were the most significant opera composers of the first two thirds of the 18th century. However, their works were surpassed by the brilliant operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the early 19th century, Gioacchino Rossini and Gaetano Donizetti dominated Italian opera. In the later 19th century the greatest works were those of Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner. Wagner, with his bold innovations, became the most influential operatic figure since Monteverdi. Richard Strauss and Giacomo Puccini wrote the most popular late 19th and early 20th century operas. Though the death of Puccini in 1924 is often cited as the end of grand opera, new and often experimental works by composers such as Alban Berg, Benjamin Britten, Gian Carlo Menotti, John Adams, and Philip Glass continued to be produced to critical acclaim. Opera entered the 21st century as a vibrant and global art form. The first roots of modern opera first appeared in Italy in the 17th century from the Camerata (an academy of Florentine poets, musicians, and scholars). The Camerata, inspired by ancient Greek drama, sung dialogues and choruses which were accompanied by musical instruments. The Camerata developed the stile recitative, in order to integrate drama, action, dialogue and narration. In this sung speech, a singer delivered a recitative melody with an actor s dramatic and oratorical skills, achieving the goal of providing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Importance Of Citadel In Beowulf First question: What the heck is a citadel? A citadel is basically a type of fortress on high ground that is heavily fortified to protect its city. The walls were seven to thirty feet in thickness and typically thirty to forty feet high (Kalif 1). This helped the walls provide a solid defense. The Citadel had many parts to it to provide a solid defense against an invasion force. The keep, or citadel, was perched at the top of the hill, looking down on the city it protects and helping keep a lookout for enemies. Well, what are the parts of the citadel? The wall is the first defense. This separated the citadel into three parts: city, military and noblemen, and the keep. They typically had arrow slits for archers to shoot out of, while ... Compare And Contrast The Social Norms By Sharon Jayson To and extent I agree with Sharon Jayson and what she has to say about millennials not conforming to society s standards as well as their approval. It is true that our social norms are unraveling, however I choose to see it as unraveling to create something new. The social norms are adapting to fit the new society that is changing the normal and becoming something different. The world is changing, people no longer care to please others and achieve their approval. We wear what we want to wear, we say what we want to say, we do what we want to do, and we do it all with pride posting it on social media to share with anyone who chooses to view it. • 5. Patent Protection Research Paper How to File a Utility Patent If you want to learn how to file a utility patent, you ll want to first consider your options. While you can certainly file a utility patent on your own, you ll want to do your research to figure out if hiring a patent attorney can help you be successful in your utility patent application. A utility patent protects a product s method, manufacturing, and/or system that is used in the making and use of the product. A majority of patent applications are in fact utility patent applications. With that being said, this type of patent can be rather time consuming and costly to obtain. It will really depend on the type of invention you have, and if you just want it patented within the United States or internationally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many inventors benefit from filing for provisional patent protection if they have not yet completed production of their invention or need additional time to determine next steps on their new invention. Maybe you re an inventor who cannot afford to pay the costs associated with filing for patent protection. In that case, you can pay a nominal fee to obtain protection for one year after which point you will then have to decide if filing for non provisional protection is the next appropriate step. For those who wish to obtain non provisional protection without having filed an application for provisional protection, you ll want to visit the USPTO website to first identify what steps are needed when filing for protection. Now, you ll move onto Step 3. Step 3: Do Your Research You ll want to do an extensive amount of research before filing for the non provisional patent application. You ll not only want to research the different types of fees you ll incur when filing for protection, but you ll also want to familiarize yourself with the process including the length of time it could take to obtain protection, any potential issues you may face along the way, deadlines to file, legal fees, and other professional fees should you choose to seek help when filing for protection. • 6. Female Characters in Hamlet Introduction Shakespearean tragedy is a story of one, or at most two persons. As a rule, they are male protagonists. But to say that Shakespeare s female characters are shallow, undeveloped and used just as a decoration on the stage is very wrong. Women in Shakespeare s tragedies have no leading role and they are, to paraphrase Northrop Frye,[1] not tragic heroines, but heroines in a tragedy. All female characters in Shakespeare s tragedies have one thing in common they end up dead. It is always an untimely, unnatural death. This rule (rather than coincidence) is a theme of many debates among philologists, critics, psychologists, psychiatrists and philosophers. As Hamlet is one of the most reflective Shakespeare s plays, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She had lost her mother, and has only a father and a brother, affectionate by worldly, to take care of her. To the persons in the play, she brings the thought of flowers. Laertes names her Rose of May , as he prays at her burial and the Queen murmurs Sweets to the sweet , as she scatters flowers on the grave. Some scholars believe that Ophelia s name which means succor in Greek, a seemingly inappropriate designation for so victimized a character may have been used in error instead of Aphelia, meaning simplicity or innocence . Both names were rare in Shakespeare s time. Ultimately, Ophelia s insanity is the consequence of the actions of others, and she is unquestionably a victim of the tragic events that beset Denmark throughout the play. [5] Ophelia and male characters in Hamlet Ophelia s affection for her brother is shown in two or three delicate strokes. Her love for her father is deep, though mingled with fear. For Hamlet she has, some say, no deep love and perhaps she is so near childhood that old affections have still the strongest hold; but certainly she has given to Hamlet all the love which her nature is yet capable. Beyond these three beloved ones she seems to have eyes and ears for no one. Her existence is wrapped up in these three. On this childlike nature and on Ophelia s inexperience everything depends. Her father and brother are jealously anxious for her because of her ignorance and innocence; and we resent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of The Book Moby Dick Starts As the story of Moby Dick starts, Ishmael our narrator immediately establishes a direct relationship with the reader through the famous line, call me Ishmael. And as the story begins to unfold, the opening chapters paint us an image of who Ishmael is: a stoic young man, full of sadness, and consumed by wanderlust. Yet this information only scratches the surface of who our character truly is and the question can still be asked, Who really is this character that is asking us to refer to him by his first name? By doing a close reading of chapter 68 The Blanket, we are given examples of how Ishmael thinks about and views his surroundings, which help give us insight to who he really is. Ishmael is more than just a friendly narrator, but rather a very deep and perceptive character. A philosophical esque question is asked at the beginning of this chapter by Ishmael, What and where is the skin of the whale? (Melville 274) Ask anyone where the skin of an animal is that is in front of him or her and they would simply point downward to where the animal is, exclaiming, right there on top. But Ishmael wants to know everything about the whale. He wants to know about every layer and marking on the beast. In chapter 68 Ishmael talks about the skin of the whale, calling it a blanket, for the whale is indeed wrapt up in his blubber as in a real blanket. (Melville 276) And as the chapter continues, several details lace there way throughout concerning how thick the whales ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Things They Carried Rhetorical Analysis Essay Alora Nguyen Prof. Hesketh Writing 39A: Academic Essay 27 February 2015 The Truth to the The Things They Carried When reading Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried, there were many truths that were presented and while some were actual facts, others were fictional. The author uses the art of storytelling instead of mere recital of facts, generic when telling a war story, as a way to express unexplainable emotions. O Brien shows that the truth is unimportant in communicating human emotions through stories because there are some emotions that can not be explained through mere facts. In his collection of short shorties, O Brien writes in a style that is very vivid and often times causes the audience to find themselves accepting the events and details of these stories as the truth. O Brien contrasts the truth to fiction by reminding the audience that within these short stories, the details are not the truth and are there to demonstrate the human emotions that can not be communicated as absolute facts. It is in the Good Form that O brien presents the actual truth stating in his first sentence, It s time to be blunt, and goes on to say that everything in the book, besides the ... • 10. Predestination to Choose Perspectives on Church Predestined to Choose First, predestination must be defined so that a contrast can be made with free will. Predestination is the divine foreordaining of all that will happen. Predestination deals with the question of the control God has over the world, it also refers to the belief that God appointed the eternal destiny of some (the elect) to salvation by grace, while leaving the remainder (the reprobate) to receive eternal damnation for all their sins. Free will, However, will be defined to mean a person which has the ability and awareness to choose whether they will accept Jesus Christ as their Savior or not. By trying to understand what scripture has to say on free will and predestination, and analyzing what other theological thinkers say, brings up the question, can one be more accurate than the other? What we believe as Christians does (and should) affect how we live. How Christians view the relationship between divine sovereignty and human freedom has a direct bearing on how they respond to various issues in their lives. For example, [T]he missionary candidate who is having difficulty raising her support. She may believe God is closing the door to her present plans and leading her in another direction. ... We couldn t power a toy truck nor a hearing aid without them yet we disrespect the honor of one of the most genius and important inventions in history. Batteries are very important but is there anything we can replace it with possibly, ourselves? Well, first we need to know what exactly a battery actually does. The first true battery was invented by Alessandro Volta, an Italian physicist, in 1800. Batteries are a mass of one or more cells whose chemical reactions create a flow of electrons in a circuit. Batteries contain three basic parts: electrodes, an electrolyte, and a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The anode is known as the reducing agent, because it loses electrons. But do we know what it means for a battery to be dead? Well, as the anode and cathode are connected to a circuit and a chemical reaction takes place between the anode and the electrolyte, the reaction causes electrons to race through the circuit and back into the cathode where another chemical reaction takes place. When the material in the cathode or anode gets to the point where it is consumed or no longer able to be used in the reaction, the battery is unable to produce electricity. At that point, your battery is officially considered dead (Hymel 2016). More recently, in 1980, an American physicist Professor John Goodenough invented the lithium battery. As lithium is one of the lightest elements on the period table and being its electrochemical potential is extremely high, the combination produces some of the highest possible voltages in the most compact and lightest volumes (Alarco 2015). There is an unfortunate decent balance between advantages and disadvantage for lithium batteries. An advantage is that its low maintenance, therefore the batteries don t exhibit a phenomenon known as the Memory Effect , of which in short is now used as a general term for anything that makes a battery not deliver at its full capacity. A disadvantage of lithium batteries is the cost. Money is what makes the world go round and as a potential luxury item may seem valuable enough to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Puritans And Puritans Essay The most known acts of cruelty in the power of the people are the various punishments dealt out by the Puritans. Then you have the Quakers they weren t just men appearing on labels of oatmeal bins; they were chosen to be on the label because the Quaker faith projected the values of honesty, integrity, purity, and strength. However, the Puritans and Quakers both traveled to the New World to escape religious prosecutions. John Winthrop, leading the Puritans, wanted a more purified state and society, giving them the name, Puritans. William Penn, leading the Quakers, wanted to spread their beliefs through themselves. They questioned leaders, resulting in leading themselves. Both had different views of reconstructing a new society, religion, and government. Religion was important to the Quaker and Puritans, but how far they took it made them different. Instead of fighting to purify the Church of England, the Puritans just traveled to the New World. They settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which is Boston today. They were able to start over and do it the right way, but everyone had to practice the bible or be punished. In their purified eyes, the Church back in England was embracing too many Catholic beliefs. Puritans had zero tolerance and took religion very seriously, making them a theocracyafter leaving that in the first place. They were led by John Winthrop. European Union remembrance policy This essay will analyse the policies that the European Parliament has introduced to create and endorse the notion of a common European historical memory. First I shall discuss the reasons behind the necessity for a historical memory in the European context. Since the Eastern Enlargement, efforts to keep history alive are supported in particular by the Europe for Citizens Programme launched in 2006. The European Commission has extended the programme to 2014 2020 , which was presented in 2011. In the renewed programme, there is a greater focus on remembrance and hence, a critical European culture of remembrance , rather than a standardised view on Europe s past, is argued for. 2.The development of the Europe for Citizens Programme and the actors involved The common European values influence the narrative and the creation of a certain culture of remembrance. In supranational context, the two memory frameworks dominating official EU discourses for the creation of a common European historical memory are Nazism and Stalinism. These two regimes and their policies embody an absolute contrast to the ideals embraced in the European project: peace, freedom, democracy, the rule of law, human rights, civil liberties and the right to individual self determination. The aim of remembrance policies is an informed and self critical European historical memory. This is done with shared European principles and universalised practices as a basis, while acknowledging the multiplicity of different national pasts at the same time. In other words, it would not be a homogenisation of the contents of different collective memories, but rather a Europeanisation of moral and political attitudes and practices ... • 14. Treatment Of Veterans With Suds And Co Occurring... The VA runs the largest substance use disorder treatment program in the world. Treatment of veterans with SUDs and co occurring psychiatric disorders is one of the following three paradigms; parallel, sequential, and integrated. Most VA programs are parallel, where the patient receives treatment for SUD in one program and treatment for PTSDin another. Many SUD PTSD veterans may be unable to navigate the separate systems or make sense of the disparate messages about PTSD treatment and recovery. One challenge to dissemination and implementation of EBTs is that of dual disorders, particularly SUD and PTSD. These patients use costly inpatient services, tend to have frequent relapses, and are less likely to adhere to or complete treatment. Cook, Walser, Kane, and Woody (2006) did a study that had a goal of getting clinicians to accept Seeking Safety and evaluate its efficacy when treating veterans, in hopes of bridging the gap of parallel services at the VA to treat comorbid SUD PTSD. This study reinforced the old ways of cannot teach an old dog new tricks because of how difficult it is to influence clinician behavior in routine medical care. A more passive approach was taken via a daylong interactive staff training in Seeking Safety, where clinicians were informally surveyed on their willingness to co lead groups with the study. Four therapists volunteered. And thus, four Seeking Safety groups were formed with 25 veteran volunteers whom had comorbid SUD PTSD. Of those, 18 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another idea that supports this model is that when new generations are born they might not like the soup being made so they slowly while mom and dad are not watching change the soup slightly to fit their palate. • 18. Macbeth Vs Lady Macbeth Lady Macbeth is filled evil schemes, and knows how to achieve her goal of getting her husband into the kingly position. Lady Macbeth is very convincing in her ideas, and does not leave a lot of space to think otherwise. Macbeth is not left much choice but to conform himself to his wife s mischievous strategy to get him to become king. He is very loyal, and wants to remain so to his king even knowing he would become king if Duncan, the present king, were to die. Lady Macbeth, however, has other plans for Macbeth, and she soon has him convinced to commit an act which will change their lives forever. Macbeth and his wife are truly opposite people, as Macbeth is laid back and easy going, while Lady Macbeth wants everything planned out and will go onward with plans no matter who they affect. She truly does make Macbeth a more interesting person through her evil schemes. I have given suck, and know how tender tis to love the babe that milks me. I would, while it was smiling in my face, have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums, and dashed the brains out had so sworn as you have done to this (Shakespeare, 44). Lady Macbeth is telling Macbeth that he must go forward with his intent of killing Duncan while he sleeps. There was a reasonable belief that there was never a search warrant made in the first place, However the courts convicted her guilty anyways, on the grounds that she had broken the law whether the evidence was legally seized or illegally seized. The court also determined that the evidence had not been taken from the defendant s person by use of brutal force against the defendant. They also stated that there was no law in the state of Ohio that prevented the use of illegally seized evidence, which was also stated in wolf v Colorado, In which the court held that in a prosecution in a state for a state crime the fourteenth amendment doesn t prevent the use of evidence obtained by an illegal search and seizure. Case managers can assist individuals in finding additional services and help to live longer and more comfortably while living with the disease and reduce the risk of them falling through the cracks. HIV/AIDS We have been aware of HIV and AIDS since the 1970s (Miller, 2012), and though there have been treatments and reduction in the number of people infected, the disease remains. In this setting the case manager would work best using the role based case management model and with their primary role to function as a generalist, This role, widely used in human service delivery, focuses primarily on providing the services that can be delivered by a helper with knowledge and skills applicable to a range of clients in various settings (Woodside, McClam, 2013. p 75 para 3); following the role of generalist the case manager would likely take on the roles of counselor, care coordinator, problem solver, and record keeper. Under the role of counselor and broker an intervention strategy that could be implemented is for the case manager to meet with the individuals on their caseload and after completing an assessment create a treatment plan that would help to resolve any barriers that the individual may be facing that would hinder their ability to attend their medical appointments and strict regimen of medications, the case manager would then continue to hold regular meetings with their clients to ensure the individual treatment plan is being adhered to (Wohl, et al. 2011). The problem a case manager may see while trying to help provide services to people living with HIV/AIDS under the model of role based manager is that the case manager may be working for an agency with very limited resources which can then severely restrict the benefit of the program and leave the case manager feeling frustrated and overwhelmed and the though there may be a wide array of services that may be needed, the agency can only afford to focus on the cheapest. If the agency does happen to be well funded then the benefits of role based case management model mean that the individual will only have the one contact person to reach out to and allows for a better relationship to develop which makes for a more effective case manager (Woodside, McClam, ... That was until Hannah, the wife, tried violently attacking and abusing Freeman s sister in 1781. Mum Bett reported the incident to a local abolitionist who then brought her case to the courts. • 27. Analysis Of The Short Story The Seventh Man There is no peace without forgiveness, a quote from Marianne Williamson. The short story, The Seventh Man by Haruki Murakami tells the story of the seventh man, who as a young child lost a friend to a large wave caused by a hurricane. He blames himself for K. s death and it haunts him in the form of night terrors for many years. The seventh man eventually forgives himself, as he should. Although, some believe the narrator shouldn t forgive himself as they see him as guilty. Simplistically, this isn t accurate, and it s as plain as day to see when the following are taken into consideration; intention, situation, and response. To start off, the seventh man s intention plays a huge deciding factor in if he was guilty of, objectively speaking, killing, or causing the death of, K. and consequently if he should forgive himself or not. Take The Scarlet Ibis for example, a short story by James Hurst. The brother talks about his want to kill his crippled brother Doodle from the very beginning and from then on he does nothing but harm, manipulate, and push Doodle for years until he ultimately dies from the overexertion his brother forced upon him. In contrast, for as long as the Seventh Man knew K. they were close, and the seventh man looked out for and loved K. like a brother. Pertaining to his death, the seventh man had no control over the wave(s) and he in no way deliberately decided to not save K.. He simply was unable to. The seventh man never intended to hurt K., muchless cause his death, which whether or not he caused it or not is arguable in and of itself, being a prime reason of why he should forgive himself. On the contrary, some may say that the the seventh man shouldn t forgive himself as he is responsible for K. s death. The evidence that supports this claim is on page 138 as it reads, I told myself to run over to K., grab hold of him, and get out of there. The explanation of the quote, forthrightly, being that the narrator could ve saved K. but he chose not too. This leads to two main reasonings that support why the position that the seventh man should forgive himself is stronger than the opposing argument. Them being; one, the seventh man s situation and instinctive response in the moment, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tycho began to gain fame as an astronomer after reporting on a new star in 1572. Tycho saw a very bright star in Cassiopeia on November 11th, 1572. He fixed its position with regards to the other stars in the constellation, and continued to observe it. It began to fade in brightness early the next year, and was only as bright as Polaris within six months. He also reported on the color changes, from brilliant white to yellow to red and back to red within that same six months (Hall 274). These careful observations helped springboard his career as an astronomer, and he published his findings on De Nova Stella or the New Star in 1574. His publication also tried to shed light on the astrological implications of this star. Tycho predicted strong cosmic influences in Scandinavia and a new order in Europe. He also implied that he knew how to better understand astrology, but made no attempts to either explain this better astrology in writing or to give any sort of temporal indication for his new order. (Christianson, Comet 118 ). His prominent station in Danish society left him in an awkward situation. Most dams are created to control river flow, improve navigation, and regulate flooding. However, some dams are built to produce hydroelectric power which is the case here (Smith). How does hydroelectric dams work? There s a power source that is used to turn a piece called turbine then turns a metal shaft to an electric generator, and that creates electricity. A long time ago hydroelectric power plants were so much more efficient and reliable. Over the years the environmental like hydro projects are being identified for concern. It s becoming a problem to build new dams because of opposition from environmentalists and people living on the land that s flooded. (Geoffrey). In 2003, ten percent of the United States electricity comes from hydropower. There s about eighty thousand MW of comventional capacity and eighteen thousand MV of pumped storage. Some environmental impacts the hydroelectric power plant may give off qualities of the greenhouse gases equal to other sources of energy. The most obvious impact of hydroelectric dams is the flooding of vast areas of lands previously forested or used in agriculture (Geoffrey). Damming a river could cause the quality and amount of water in the river to downstream. That causes the fishes to stop migrating upstream to spawn. You can reduce these impacts by requiring little flows downstream of a dam. You could also build fish ladders, that allows the fishes to move upstream. • 35. Computer Generated Imagery And Its Effects Computer generated imagery was being developed during the 1980s and it soon started being used in films for effects. Rickitt (2006) explains that effects during the 80s were not just there to solve problems and producing impossible shots like their initial purpose but used as a marketing tool for films to promote themselves based on the quality of the image and amount of visual effects involved. Star Wars was the first filmto make use of this marketing tool and made people grow more interest on the film itself as well as the effects and of course, this brought more income to the studios. This trend of using effects to promote films was immediately picked up and abused, but it did not last long. Tron (1982) was the first film based almost entirely on computer generated scenery and massively advertised for them. However it ended up failing at the box office even though it had superb computer generated effects at the time of its release. Rickitt described that the failure of Tron could have been what made visual effects take longer to develop and being incorporated in films. This was the first sign that a film heavily equipped with effects does not mean that it would make a hit. Narrative is an important element of a film and effects cannot compensate for a bad narrative (McClean, 2007). After a decade of slow development, computer generated imagery made its appearance once more in Jurassic Park (1993) and changed the opinions directors and studios regarding visual effects. ... During the 1800s, people from all walks of life had to deal with some type of social injustice. Whether that be discrimination against a particular race, slavery, or inequality. Although many social injustices have diminished over time, it is disappointing to say, that the world is still suffers from injustices such as poverty, inequality, etc. To achieve social justice , I believe we the people must inquire about what injustice is active and how it is affecting our community. With that being said, we need to educate those who are not aware of the injustices that we are still suffering from both locally and globally. Also as individuals, we can show love to those of other ethnicities, religions, cultures and other backgrounds that may differ from our own. We as a nation must come together and partake in the fight for social justice. To start, in order to gain social justice, we must first educate ourselves on the injustice so we may be able to accurately inform others on the issue. The community cannot make a positive impact unless we are knowledgeable of the problem. The best way to achieve this goal is by conducting research, observance of our community and knowing the stats of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eric Schlosser s Fast Food Nation And The Jungle Fast food restaurants exude bright colors, distribute meals with toys, and create a sense of happiness, but what truly goes on behind the scenes of this magical industry? In Eric Schlosser s Fast Food Nation and Upton Sinclair s The Jungle, the authors use similar rhetorical strategies to reveal the motives and unconventional practices of the food industry. Schlosser conveys his purpose through the utilization of pathos, ethos, anecdotes and imagery as compared to Sinclair who uses historical references and figurative language as well as imagery and pathos. Schlosser exposes the fast food industry s behind the scenes operations through the use of imagery. Schlosser illustrates the horrors of the fast food industry s practices throughout... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schlosser employs anecdotes in order to evoke emotion from his readers to achieve his purpose. One anecdote the author includes is the story of Alex Donley, a six year old boy. Alex Donley ate a tainted hamburger from Jack in the box that led him to become infected with E. coli 0157:H7 (Schlosser 200). This disease obliterated his entire body and progressed rapidly. Alex died within five days. The author uses anecdotes such as Alex s to evoke sympathy and fear from his readers, especially parents with young children. The stories make parents and anyone who buys fast food reconsider what they are putting in their bodies for if a young boy can die from a simple burger, then what s to prevent others, kids, or even one s self from becoming the next victim in the vicious industry that is fast food? The use of anecdotes ultimately helps the author unveil the beast that is the fast food industry by pulling on the heartstrings of Americans. The author displays the harsh actuality of the fast food industry through the use of ethos. Schlosser s writing in Fast Food Nation is from a first person point of view for the most part due to the fact that the anecdotes and people that are mentioned throughout the book are people or stories the author has witnessed himself, heard from the source himself, or met himself. Challenges Of The Transcontinental Railroad The Transcontinental Railroad was a great engineering achievement that brought a more efficient means of transportation from the Eastern United States to the Western United States. There were many challenges for the development of a project that everyone agreed was necessary for the development of the country. These challenges included a nation that was divided by the Civil War, as well as how such a project could be financed and planned for. The completion of the Transcontinental Railroad rapidly increased America s population in the West, and gave the Country the ability to protect itself on boast the East and West Coasts. The expansion in the West included taking over lands from the Native Americans who lived on the land. This was the downside associated with the Transcontinental Railroad. The completion of the railroad brought about a great appreciation for the contributions of the Chinese immigrants and allowed many to improve their lives. The completion of the Transcontinental Railroad was a great accomplishment that helped the United Statesdevelop as a nation. The Transcontinental Railroad could not have been achieved without the invention of the locomotive. The idea of the locomotive was first thought of by James Watt in 1769. Sir Phillip Sidney s Sonnet #47 from Astrophil and Stella Sir Phillip Sidney s Sonnet # 47 from Astrophil and Stella The sonnet is a short concise form of writing and it takes a great mind to master it. By mastering it, I mean to be able to say so much in what seems like so little space. Sir Phillip Sidney comes as close to mastering it as anyone else in his time or any other does. As the opening line says, this is about a betrayal. Strangely enough, the last line of the sonnet ends with a word that is the very essence of betrayal. The sonnet ends with the word, lie. This would cause one to expect to get an explanation of the betrayal between the first and last lines. This appears to be a story of both love and betrayal. In the ... The third quatrain is different from the first two in its format. The first line is indented and the other three are not. This would cause one to think that this line is set apart for a reason. The first two words say why, it is an exclamation to wake up. It is meant to stand out much like a mother coming into a child s room and yelling wake up very early in the morning. Here, the narrator is telling Virtue within himself to awake. He wants to do the right thing. He realizes that although this girl is beautiful, he does not love her and he must let her go. It is not fair to hold on to someone in a relationship or in the words of the first quatrain, keep someone a slave to you, if you do not love them. This is a commentary from over four hundred years ago that is still true in relationships today. Today, people will date or stay together in an unhealthy relationship for stupid reasons or superficial reasons and either one or both of the people do not love the other. The last couplet, the closing lines of the sonnet, also tell the story of relationships today. In the beginning of the relationship he thought that he may have been in love with her. ... The grass was not the yellowish brown brought on from the drought, instead it was a lively green that I had dreams about running in. The fall leaves around the trees enhanced the feeling of Christmas soon to come and the stairs leading up to the front door were clean. They had no muddy footprints that I was so used to seeing on my concrete. I walked up the steps slowly. I had a half witted hope that if I moved slow enough I d end up back at the Azusa house. Rather than disposing of it, as he normally would have, Zahid hung onto it because he felt compelled to read it and expose its errors. Allah, like the Christian God, is seen as the most powerful being in the world; no one even comes close to comparing to him. Similarly, no one can share power with him. Both beings also play a role in creation they not only created the world and everything in it, but also constantly hold it together. Many people look at these similarities and, as a result, think the two beings are same. By looking at each in greater detail, though, the differences quickly become obvious. (al Araby 44; Haneef 13 14, 15). Although both Allah and the Christian God are seen as monotheistic by their followers, Muslims see the definition of a monotheistic deity a little bit differently. Or, looking at it another way, Muslims do not understand the Christian doctrine of the Trinity. In Christianity, God is seen as one, but at the same time as having three distinct persons the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19 says, Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. A singular name is applied to the three persons. Because this concept is impossible to grasp in its entirety, Muslims tend to see Christians as pluralistic (worshipers of three gods) when, in fact, they are worshiping one.
