SeaWorld Essay
Splish! Splash! The sound of bottlenose dolphins jumping and swimming around their tank excites
a family at SeaWorld as they wait to experience their first encounter with the dolphins. Every year,
bottlenose dolphins bring joy to hundreds of people in both captivity and the wild, but what do
people truly know about them? Bottlenose dolphins are actually unique and interesting creatures.
Bottlenose dolphins are one of thirty two species of marine dolphins (World Book 297). Their
scientific name is Tursiops Truncatus. Males are usually longer and heavier than females.
Bottlenose dolphins can grow to be thirteen feet long and weigh up to 600 pounds (Bottlenose

If a dolphin catches a large fish, it will smack the fish on the ocean floor or the water s surface to
break it into smaller portions (McClintock). After a dolphin catches its prey, it uses its tongue to
swallow the fish and push the water out of its mouth (Dolphin Research Center). Dolphins can
eat up to thirty pounds of fish in one day, so it is helpful that they have three stomach
compartments, similar to that of a cow (McClintock) (Lockley 69). Bottlenose dolphins find fish
by using echolocation. This is when a dolphin sends out a beam of short sonar pulses from its
melon, or forehead. The beam reflects off of fish or other objects and echoes back to the lower
jaw. The echoes are then sent to the ear bones where they are characterized. Using echolocation,
dolphins are able to locate prey that is buried up to one and a half feet under the sand (Cahill 140
141). Bottlenose dolphins are excellent swimmers. They can jump up to sixteen feet in the air.
Three to seven miles per hour is their normal swimming speed, but they can reach speeds of
eighteen to twenty two miles per hour. Dolphins also porpoise, which is when a dolphin swims
fast enough to repetitively come out of the water and back under the water in one swift movement.
This uses less effort than swimming fast at the ocean s surface. When dolphins swim in deep open
water, they often dive. They dive

During this summer, my friends recommended that I watch Warehouse 13 since I m fond of

five seasons and around sixty episodes. They only lasted about forty minutes each so I finished
the series in two weeks because the show only lasted five years. I appreciate this show because
Warehouse 13 filmed an episode based off of Indiana Jones. No doubt Indiana Jones movies are
better, but Warehouse 13 was practically featured in the movies. Warehouse 13 took the idea of the

Exercising The Exercise Of Exercise
Many people have a different opinion on working out. Some might say that it is too hard or that it

body. Exercising is not only working on the outside but also on the inside. Exercising pushes you
to do things that normal you wouldn t want to do or think that you could do. When exercising you
are working your brain in ways that it is not normal worked. Many people do not understand the
importance of exercising and do not get the recommended amount of exercise. According to Centers

The Disruption Of A Company
The Disruption Dilemma
I was assigned the book The Disruption Dilemma for this assignment. Gans defined disruption as
what a firm faces when the choices that once drove a firm s success now become those that destroy
it future. Failing firms tend to pursue the choices and strategies that made them successful. We will
go through examples of how a few companies handled themselves in the midst of disruption, the
types of disruptions, the reasons for disruptions, some theories of disruption, managing disruption,
insuring against it, and finally the future of disruption. Let us start by comparing an old and new
disruption dilemma.

The key reason a firm fails from disruption is new technology, the ability to imitate, and the failure
to take advantage of an opportunity like Blockbuster in 2000.
There are a couple of sources of disruption, demand side, supply side mechanisms and disruptive
innovation. The demand side where existing firms are blindsided from a new innovation and lose
customers from changing customer wants. The supply side where organizations cannot make
organizational changes necessary to compete with new entrants. Disruptive innovation follows an S
Curve where an organization may initially perform worse and then rapidly improves.
Companies need to predict the disruption effect of new technologies, but sometimes they are not
appreciated at the time of invention and are ignored. Massively Open Online Courses or MOCC is
currently changing the education field by offering free education that threatens expensive
universities. A dilemma with new technologies is that they cannot be predicted. If disruptive events
could be predicted, they would not really be disruptive, because a business then could plan for it.
To lower uncertainties of dilemmas companies need to consider whether they should invest in a
new technology, but their existing technology might be working fine for the moment. There is a
plethora of ways a firm could be disrupted, but companies do not have enough resources or
attention. Even so, sometimes firms see

In the field of education, no matter what position you carry relationships are the key. Relationship

important to build teacher student, teacher parent, teacher administrator, and teacher teacher

them, that you value their support and anticipate cooperation. Communication is very important

Compare And Contrast Japanese And Japanese Education
Many countries in the world view education as the key to success in life, but each country s

students learn and memorize various subjects to take schoolexaminations in the hopes of winning
the educationrace. The American and Japanese educational systems may seem similar but are

develops it education system according to its culture and history. In America, people view learning
academic subjects and participating in extracurricular activities as their main educational priority.
Extracurriculars also make school more palatable for a whole lot of kids who otherwise find it
bleak or unsatisfying (Kronholz 11). In many American schools, students participate in a wide array
of extracurricular activities not just only to bolster their college resume but also enjoy school life.
In contrast, Japanese people think that academic achievement is very important. Both academic
content and the structure of Japanese schooling emphasize the cultivation of effort as a highly
desirable personal trait (Ellington 406). Japanese students are often told by their parents to study
various subject matter to hopefully pass their college entrance examinations. When compared with

Comedy in Don Quixote
Q.2 Wherein lies the comedy in part one of Don Quixote?
The story Don Quixote is a burlesque, mock epic of the romances of chivalry, in which Cervantes
teaches the reader the truth by creating laughter that ridicules. Through the protagonist, he succeeds
in satirizing Spain s obsession with the noble knights as being absurdly old fashioned. The
dynamics of the comedy in this story are simple, Don Quixote believes the romances he has read
and strives to live them out, and it is his actions and the situations that he finds himself in during his
adventures that make the reader laugh. We can define comedy as something that entertains the
reader and that makes us want to laugh out loud and Cervantes succeeds in doing this through his

Consequently, most of the situations that Don Quixote is placed in during his ridiculous quest
are excellent examples of slapstick comedy. The reader is highly entertained by Don Quixote on
his adventures during which he implicitly believes that he is like the knights in the novels he has
read and so; he logically believes his own fiction. The reader is embarrassed when Don Quixote
decides that by choosing a new name for himself, his horse, his lady and his friends that this will
suffice in making him a knight. Just like he shaped his own appearance, he chooses his name as
Don Quixote de La Mancha and this becomes one of the most prominent jokes of the book. It is
a name that is undignified and pretentious but simultaneously amusing because La Mancha is a
dry, sparsely populated region of Spain, which is exactly what a knight should avoid. The suffix
ote was considered derogatory at that time and it is even funny sounding. We are skeptical from
the very beginning as to whether or not Don Quixote is worthy of the title Don and our suspicions
are confirmed when he fails to assist people in distress like any good knight should. It is highly

an improvement in the crediting procedures that have been developed within the company. The
average collection period has decreased significantly to an average of 42 days, which enables the
company to use this money within the business at an earlier stage.
Poor sales and lower inventory balances in 2001 contributed to the inventory turnover dropping to
almost 3 times a year. This improved slightly in 2002 as sales picked up within the business. This
does affect the liquidity but does not have a real damaging effect to the products sold due to the

Leading Shiite Ideologies, Questions and Answers
Questions:
Briefly identify the main features of the 3 main variations among the leading Shiite ideologies with
regard to Iranian culture and the Shah s regime? What were the main issues Ayatollah Khomeini
had with the Shah s regime?
Answer:
The Iranian revolution was an ideological affair. With different visions for the future of Iran, the
revolutionaries were united for toppling the monarchy, which they had substantially. All the visions
of these revolutionary, however, were colored by ideology. Ayatollah Khomeini was the leader of
that Iranian revolution against the shah. Khomeini marched with Shi ite (Shiyah) Ideology to
denounce the Shahs and created a negative impression among the Iranian People against the Shah
s regime. The Shi ite Ideologies were based on Islamic shariah, The Iranian culture was based on
Islamic culture with an increasing influence of western culture and the shah s regime was friendly
with the western culture policies and mostly against the Shi ite Islamic fundamentalism. The
second difference was, shi ite (shiyah) ideology doesn t support the monarchy or imperialism in
Islamic countries, the Iranian culture in that time were divided in their ideology in between shi ite
(Shiyah) and shahs, and the shah s regime was totally a monarchy and supported by the US and
western policy makers. This difference was also mostly liable for the Iranian revolution. The third
and last variation was, the Shi ite (Shiyah) ideologies tends to follow the shariyah,

what is needed to evolve with the inevitable changes occurring, the future trends emerging, and
challenges that go with it. Addressing crime is the most important responsibility of law
enforcement agencies and although there is an increase in crimeand criminal acts, the research
indicates that response methods will need to be enhanced in order for any law enforcement agency

Staying ahead of these changes or forecasting for these changes will better equip law enforcement

enforcement. It can be challenging to retrieve data on every response methods that police
departments utilize. Whereas other demographics, such as agency size, population, crime rates,
budgets, recruitment, criminal acts or technology may be obtainable, it can be vexing to find those
demographics to include how they affect, are used in response methods or implemented. Further
research should be investigated concerning the aspects of response methods in law enforcement. In
my opinion, law enforcement agencies have response methods implemented that work well for their
departments and the communities they serve, but with the increase in terrorism, cyber crimes, gun
violence, localized crime, and the growing population, response methods will have to be improved
to keep up with these increases. With the rapidly changing environment and communities, now

Marxism As A Conflict Theory
Marxism is a conflict theory based on the idea that society is in conflict with each other; the
conflict is between the rich and the poor ( A Brief Introduction to Marxism ). The basic tenets of
Marx s theory rest on the conflict between the different classes of society of which, Marx states
that the ideas of the ruling class are in every epoch the ruling ideas: i.e.,the class which is the
ruling material force of society is at the same time its ruling intellectual force. The class which has
the means for material production at its disposal have control at the same time over the means of

The tenets of Marxism as defined by Marx and Althusser provide a unique lens through which the
reader can view Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Conrad s novella portrays the historical era of
Imperialism, when European countries, Great Britain included, were laying claim to parts of the
African continent for its riches in natural resources. The idea that Imperialism was the highest stage
of capitalism , expressed by Vladimir Lenin, a proponent of Marxism, adds an important layer to a
study of the novella using Marxist theory (Marxism: Essential Writings).
A look at one small scene from Section III of the novel, in which the young Russian speaks about

He had, as he informed me proudly, managed to nurse Kurtz through two illnesses (he alluded to

All too often we do not think about our personal strength until a situation arises that causes us to use
this natural attribute that we know as strength.
Many women have been through incidents where one has had to exhibited personal strength to
get through an appalling event or circumstance. Preparing for this journey, Strayed packed a
backpack to take along with her on the Pacific Crest Trail. Not knowing what all she needed, she
packed unnecessary items such as books, shoes, stoves, and even a twelve pack of condoms, but
why? Going into something for the first time not knowing what to expect can be very dangerous.
Every night the unexpected happened Each night the black sky and the bright stars were my
stunning companions; occasionally I d see their beauty and solemnity so plainly that I d realize in a
piercing way that my mother was right. That someday I WOULD be grateful and that in fact I was
grateful now, that I felt something growing in me that was strong and real (Strayed 128).

Zhou Enlai Contributions
Diplomacy is imperative to nations coming together. A country cannot stand alone; it is the
relations that the country creates which gives it power. Chou En Lai better known as Zhou Enlai
was a diplomat of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Enlai helped China continue as a major
world power during and after the Second World War. Enlai was smart and tactical. As a diplomat
Zhou Enlaifelt his purpose was to modernize China. Zhou Enlai had a rich upbringing with the
resources to study abroad, a complicated relationship with Mao Zedong, and a strong career as
Premier to the Chinese Communist Party. Zhou Enlai was born on March 5, 1898 to a wealthy
family of the Huain an Jiangsu province. Born to a wealthy family Zhou Enlai was able to study
abroad in countries such as Paris and Japan. Although wealthy, his family suffered greatly from
losses and debt. He learned from a young age how to manage disputes. He had been bullied often
and would form allies to counterattack the bullies. According to Gao Wengian s novel Zhou
Enlai: The Last Perfect Revolutionary, He revealed himself to be an early master at creating a
united front. This was a skill that served him well in later years and may explain his capacity to
survive so many hostile confrontations (27). The level of tactical development that Zhou Enlai
showed at a young age would later turn into one of his most valued qualities. What s more, Zhou

Food Stamp History
A History of Food Stamps
The primary goal of food stamps is to increase food security and reduce national hunger in the
United States. Each year, out of the one trillion dollars that the United States Government has to
spend on assistance and welfare, food stamps takes up about 70 billion dollars (The History of
NAP). The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or previously known as the Food
Stamp Program) started through the Agriculture Adjustment Act (AAA) and since then has spread
around its influence and authority and grown in size (Mary Clare Jalonick Associated). Throughout
the past 80 years, the Food Stamp Program has been modified and reformatted, and today it aids
more than 44 million Americans (Rude, Emelyn). The Food Stamp ... Show more content on

Johnson instated the Food Stamp Act which made the Food Stamp Program permanent. Congress
saw this as an opportunity to strengthen the agricultural economy; to help achieve a fuller and
more effective use of food abundances; to provide for improved levels of nutrition among low
income households through a cooperative Federal State program of food assistance to be operated
through normal channels of trade (Puro, Steven). In order for this program to function Congress
would distribute out paper food stamps each month through a welfare office to those personnel or
families who made the poverty line or below. Right after the Food Stamp Act of 1964 was adopted
by Congress and the United States, many legislators have debated funding, eligibility standards,
accessibility, and accountability (Food Distribution). However, this program did lead to a boost in
the economy. Not only did low income families get the nutritional supplements that they needed,
but it also caused food stamps to be cash equivalent to actual money which let customers buy other
grocery items that were not part of the food program which expanded options (Rude,

Importance Of Black History Month
The purpose of this paper is to inform readers about the importance of the celebration of African
American History Month. There is a misconception about African American or Black History
Month. Black History Month is the annual festivals that have been observed in the United States to
recognize the achievements of African AmericanSocial Reformers, Civil Rights Activists, and other
essentials people in Black History. This paper will focus on the reasons behind the celebration. I
ponder the importance of celebrating African American HistoryMonth. I also contemplate on the
main reason to celebrate the event in February.
Black History Month or African American History Month is celebrated every year to recognize the
vital role of African American in the United States History. Black History Month has been honor in
February. The main reasons to mark February as a History Month was because the birthday of
President Abraham Lincoln who abolished slavery is in February. Also, the birthday of Frederick
Douglass, who was a social reformer and abolitionist, is on the week of February. The other reason
is an African American gain the right to vote in February. Those ideas make February
commemorate African American and American History Month. There are several reasons for the
celebration of African American History Month.

Nuclear power plants generate a mass of electricity using steam generators. The plants are very

Lack Of Marginal Utility Theory
Suppliers might have to do a market research in order to forecast the consumer behaviour. To do this
efficiently, firms might use marginal utility theory, namely principle of diminishing marginal utility
together with indifference analysis.
Utility is the satisfaction that people earn from the consumption of a certain quantity of a product
(Mankiw and Taylor, 2014). Marginal utilityis the additional satisfaction that customer gains from
consuming one extra unit within a given period of time. However, the more of a product a person
consumes, the less additional utility they are able to gain from that extra unit. Understanding this
situation, economists come up with indifference analysis. Indifference analysis shows how
consumer chooses the combination between two goods but still obtains the same satisfaction and
indifference curve is the graph which illustrates that combination. It means, at any points on
indifference curve, the consumer is indifferent about how to combine the two goods.
Diagrammatically, if a person chooses 6 units of good Y with 2 units of good X, his utility will
not be different from choosing 4 units of Y with 3 units of X, as long as those points are still on
the curve.
Most indifference curves have a convex shape and the reason is this. The lower units of good Y,
the bigger quantity of good X in order to satisfy the loss of good Y. Nevertheless, the amount of
giving up one of these two good cannot be the same. In other words, if the one of the

Kim Souzzi was 23 when she succumbed glioblastoma, a terminal brain cancer that is incurable;
however, her legacy lives on through what in the past was just science fiction. Kim s brain is
cryogenically frozen in the hopes that it one day can be mapped and her conscious be uploaded to

time and technology are potent variables. Despite being riddled with moral, fundamental, and

Kim s passion was neuroscience and studying the brain and it is only appropriate that she sought a
higher cause following her death. Kim was denied a legacy dying so young so she hopes for a
second chance with the advance of technology. It is therefore no question of science, religion, or
morals; rather it is that her dying wishes right or wrong. We all have our own rituals surrounding
death. Whether it is burial, cremation, cast into the ocean, or even used to further science, there
is a purpose in the final rite. Kim s story is a touching one because like she states in the video on
New York Times, she could just be buried and nothing more would come from that. Furthermore,
she decides to continue sponsoring her passions even after death. No matter what paradigm or
perspective one takes, Kim pursued what she truly loved in the hope that one day she will be a
part of something greater than herself. Technology and science are not ready for the ambitions
of Kim; however, time is the dependent factor in which science fiction will become science
reality. I support her decision and what she is doing, she follows her ambitions and although
peculiar and eccentric, they are however her final wishes and the opinions of the masses are
irrelevant. The question of whether or not the computer with Kim s conscious is her or not,
because that is a clash of science and philosophy. People are afraid of what they do not know.
Virtual Mortality may be the key to preserving ideas of great minds, musicians, philosophers,
inventors and innovators. Death will not be overcome by the prospect of the digital conscious
rather life will continue. What was once history will continue to the future. Kim s endeavor
represents progress and if possible and successful will change the way death is

The Seven Habits Of Highly Effective People There Are A...
Have you ever thought about what you re doing in Your future? What are your plans? are you

lot of things by Stephen Covey It can tell you if you re doing the right things with your life or
not, and can get answers in the following 7th habits of life. Are you proactive ? do you do things
without being asked to ? are you able to brush things off without getting offended or getting mad
when someone tell you something ? Each day you and I get about 100 chances to choose
whether to be proactive or reactive. by Stephen Covey. You get chances all the time to make
choices. Some people choose to be proactive and do the right things. For example if your know
you have to clean the house, why wait until your mom has to tells you and start yelling at you. It
s better to be proactive and do it without her telling you. You can use this habit in so many ways.
The proactive approach to a mistake is to acknowledge it instantly, and learn from it and not
letting it happen again. you have the freedom to choose your response and to choose your action
no one can choose them for you so, if your do something that s not right why complain and argue,
yes you can but, at the same time you were the one to choose your actions. There are so many
things in life that can put you down and make you upset. You should always take responsibility
for your choices and that s the problems with today s humans in this world. Trying to point the
finger at someone else, even tho they already know it was there fault. You re probably asking
why ? that my question for so long but still not being able to get the answer, but i ll tell you my
side of the point. You should always bounce back when you get hurt or get upset look at the
positive side there is always a really big reason why things happen. There always people that

Chapter 16 Externalities
Consumers and producers are internal to a transaction. Consumers receive a benefit from the goods
they purchase, while producers pay the costs of production. An externality (sometimes called a
spillover) is a cost or benefit that goes to someone external to a transaction. Pollution is a negative
(cost) externality. Education and research create a positive externality. Externalities can result from
consumption or production.
2
An Example:
Suppose that the costs of raising livestock are mostly borne by the rancher, but there is a spillover
cost. Streams nearby get polluted, and this affects people (and other species) who use the stream
as well as spinach farmers who also use the water for irrigation. ... Show more content on

Consider the case of stream pollution by livestock
Suppose the cost of preventing stream pollution is lower than the cost to spinach producers and
other users of the stream. If spinach farmers have the right to clean water, then ranchers will not be
willing to pay spinach farmers enough, and will be forced to prevent the pollution. If ranchers have
the right to pollute the water, then spinach farmers would be willing to pay them enough to prevent
it. Either way, the stream will not be polluted, and this is the most efficient outcome.
14
Suppose that costs are too high
Suppose the cost of preventing stream pollution is higher than the cost to spinach producers and
other users of the stream. If spinach farmers have the right to clean water, then ranchers will be
willing to pay spinach farmers enough to allow pollution of the stream. If ranchers have the right to

Enzymatic And Biochemical Constraints On The Utilization...
Enzymatic and biochemical constraints on the utilization of terrestrially derived carbon
The problem with using terrestrial derived carbon is not its energy content per se, but rather the
accessibility of the energy contained within this material and the suitability of the biochemical
composition of the resource for synthesis of new biomass in animals. Biological recalcitrance is
due to kinetic, not thermodynamic, limitations. For example, a variety of terrestrial plants have
average energy contents of 19 В± 1 MJ kg 1 (В± 1 SD) (Friedl et al., 2005), which is slightly
higher than for proteins and carbohydrates (i.e., 17 MJ kg 1), but considerably less than the average

The structural carbon that dominates the tissues of many higher plants is comprised in large part
of lignins and cellulose (Meyers Ishiwatari, 1993). Lignocellulose degradation in terrestrial soil
systems plays a central role in the global carbon budget, but currently the fundamental
understanding of the degradation of these compounds is only rudimentary (Benner et al., 1988;
Lynd et al., 2002; Martinez et al., 2005). Cellulose is the most prevalent component of plant tissue
comprising 35 50% of dry weight, and is generally embedded in a biopolymer structural matrix
including hemicelluloses (20 35% of dry wt.) and lignin (5 30% of dry wt.) (Lynd et al., 2002), with
other biochemicals such as carbohydrates, lipids and proteins comprising a much smaller portion of
plant tissues (Martinez et al., 2005). The lignocellulosic component of the plant undergoes self
assembly at the site of biosynthesis and is composed of randomly polymerized polyphenolics
intertwined with hemicellulose, resulting in a hydrophobic crystalline or complex amorphous
structure, which protects against biodegradation. Collectively these physical properties of
lignocellulose do not present well defined enzymatic targets, making it difficult for enzymes to bind
to susceptible sites and thereby conferring considerable resistance to microbial degradation (e.g.,
Moran Hodson, 1989). These characteristics of higher plant structural material have been

The Analytical Versus Holistic Approach Of Leadership Essay
Overview
In general, we are familiar with the quote managers do things right while leaders do the right things.
In essence, the analytical versus the holistic approach of leadership addresses these two separate
and distinct functions within an organization. For instance, a manager focuses on the daily
operations of an organization with an emphasis on team delivery, budgeting, and supervising the
employees. Contrarily, leaders within an organization focus their time on improvements and
innovation. In particular, leaders can perform this function since they are not responsible for
running the team and mired up in minutia. As a result, there is a misnomer that managers are
leaders and leaders remain managers, but they are not exclusive. Therefore, being a manager and a
leader requires different abilities and dispositions.
With this in mind, management entails having the skills to plan, delegate, communicate, and
motivation. An individual with the administrative skills may focus on the daily operations of an
organization with an emphasis on team delivery, budgeting, and supervising the employees.
Moreover, managers are working on organizational efficiency, speeding up the operation to cut costs
and increasing productivity, and enforcing the rules and procedures. By having the proper leadership
traits, managers can conceive the right decisions and accomplish these goals. As an illustration,
consider a manager working on a budget, yet lacks the leadership characteristic

These effects have mobilized the efforts of governments throughout different continents to start

and cap and trade are concepts being implemented throughout countries with the intention of
limiting the amount of CO2 major industries are permitted of releasing. Although, these concepts

ways of corrupting these programs. This is because all three of the previous concepts have
loopholes in which a company can purchase the right to release as much carbon dioxideas they are

Pakistani Pharmaceutical Industry
OPPORTUNITIES
Forecasts predict that by 2016 Pakistan will be the 11th largest pharmaceutical market in the Asia
Pacific region, which is the major core world s population and growth pole.
The industry is a net beneficiary of the boom in base materials mostly from China and this
positively impacts their margins. Further treaties and trade agreements will boost this trend further.
The country s Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) has registered positive growth of 1.85 percent
during the July Sep first quarter of the current FY13 over the corresponding period of the last FY12
showing signs of improvements. The manufacturing items observed growth throughout the first
quarter over the same period of last year involved pharmaceuticals (4.09%).
FBR has reduced the rate of the 0.5 percent withholding tax under Section 153A of the Income Tax
Ordinance, 2001 to 0.3 or 0.2 percent for those segments reimbursing lower rate of turnover tax

sectors like manufacturers of pharmaceutical products having low turnover and also paying
turnover taxes that are high. By volumes and generated percentage, the Pharmaceutical industry
might possibly be considered a small industry which can prove itself of substantial value
considering the amount of profits that can be generated, and the number of promising investors that

The Negative Effects Of Media In The Media
In today s modern social and public media children can come across many different forms of
unwanted profanity and bad practices. As this becomes more and more prevalent children are
slowly becoming more and more accustomed to hearing and seeing profane things. Children are
being impacted in a negative way when crossing negative and profane media. This media can lead
to children developing a sense of fear, lack of respect towards their piers and others around them,
and a desensitizing of emotions and thoughts. These days its pretty hard not to come across content
in media that can be offensive and or profane. This is partly due to the fact that movie and media
rating companies are becoming more and more lenient with what content is considered non profane
and what is. For example, Kimberly M. Thompson and Fumie Yokota found in their research of the
correlation between movie rating and profanityand violence saying, The MPAA mentioned
alcohol or drugs in its rating reason for 18% of films, while Screen It! assigned a score above
none for tobacco and/or alcohol/drugs for 95% of films and above none for alcohol/drugs for
93%... This shows that more and more movies and shows are staring to include this profane
content and are still being classified as PG or PG 13. Another study referenced in Chandra
Johnson s article about Kids and swear words: Can profanity in media hurt? referenced a study
by VidAngle saying, from the first swear word on film (1939 s Gone with the Wind ) to 2013 s
The Wolf of Wall Street, which holds the record with 798 swearwords an increase of 500 percent
over 74 years.... This shows that swear words and profanity are being included more and more in
movies and media. We instead need to include versions of movies that are censored and child
family friendly. Having this decrease in profanity standards means that children are going to be
exposed to profanity at a much faster rate. This will increase the rate at which children are affected
and can lead to the negative affects listed above.
Having children become fearful, disrespectful, and desensitized when it comes to emotion will
lead to social and economic issues later down in their lives. For example, Rupal Patel (a child

Mental Illness History
Mental illness is something we have been trying to treat since the beginning of civilization. Many
different approaches have been used, everything from physical surgeries to spiritual healing. But
most recently, medicines have been the most popular form of treatment. As time has gone on,
pharmaceuticals have become safer and more efficient, with less side effects, and therefore, more
ethical to use. Throughout all aspects of ethics, the good sides of using medicines to treat mental
illnesses far outweigh the bad. The history of treating mental illnesses dates as far back as 5000

Side effects are a big one, with many patients experiencing them. For example, [a]bout 75% of
people who take lithium for bipolar disorder have some side effects, although they may be minor

order to design systems that are functional for all different types of people, one must first
understand the basics of psychological disorders. I have decided to look deeper in psychopathy.
Psychopathy testing has accepted the use of a moral questionnaire, but for a group of people

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Research Paper
The most important lesson that I learned this year was about self acceptance, more specifically
accepting myself for who I am and not being ashamed of my cultural background. The main two
texts that I felt expressed this lesson the most was the autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird

Every year, bottlenose dolphins bring joy to hundreds of people in both captivity and the wild, but what do people truly know about them? If a dolphin catches a large fish, it will smack the fish on the ocean floor or the water s surface to break it into smaller portions (McClintock). After a dolphin catches its prey, it uses its tongue to swallow the fish and push the water out of its mouth (Dolphin Research Center). Dolphins can eat up to thirty pounds of fish in one day, so it is helpful that they have three stomach compartments, similar to that of a cow (McClintock) (Lockley 69). Bottlenose dolphins find fish by using echolocation. This is when a dolphin sends out a beam of short sonar pulses from its melon, or forehead. The beam reflects off of fish or other objects and echoes back to the lower jaw. The echoes are then sent to the ear bones where they are characterized. Using echolocation, dolphins are able to locate prey that is buried up to one and a half feet under the sand (Cahill 140 141). Bottlenose dolphins are excellent swimmers. They can jump up to sixteen feet in the air. Three to seven miles per hour is their normal swimming speed, but they can reach speeds of eighteen to twenty two miles per hour. Dolphins also porpoise, which is when a dolphin swims fast enough to repetitively come out of the water and back under the water in one swift movement. This uses less effort than swimming fast at the ocean s surface. When dolphins swim in deep open water, they often dive. They dive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comedy in DonQuixote Q.2 Wherein lies the comedy in part one of Don Quixote? The story Don Quixote is a burlesque, mock epic of the romances of chivalry, in which Cervantes teaches the reader the truth by creating laughter that ridicules. Through the protagonist, he succeeds in satirizing Spain s obsession with the noble knights as being absurdly old fashioned. The dynamics of the comedy in this story are simple, Don Quixote believes the romances he has read and strives to live them out, and it is his actions and the situations that he finds himself in during his adventures that make the reader laugh. We can define comedy as something that entertains the reader and that makes us want to laugh out loud and Cervantes succeeds in doing this through his use of ... The reader is highly entertained by Don Quixote on his adventures during which he implicitly believes that he is like the knights in the novels he has read and so; he logically believes his own fiction. The reader is embarrassed when Don Quixote decides that by choosing a new name for himself, his horse, his lady and his friends that this will suffice in making him a knight. Just like he shaped his own appearance, he chooses his name as Don Quixote de La Mancha and this becomes one of the most prominent jokes of the book. It is a name that is undignified and pretentious but simultaneously amusing because La Mancha is a dry, sparsely populated region of Spain, which is exactly what a knight should avoid. The suffix ote was considered derogatory at that time and it is even funny sounding. We are skeptical from the very beginning as to whether or not Don Quixote is worthy of the title Don and our suspicions are confirmed when he fails to assist people in distress like any good knight should. With different visions for the future of Iran, the revolutionaries were united for toppling the monarchy, which they had substantially. All the visions of these revolutionary, however, were colored by ideology. Ayatollah Khomeini was the leader of that Iranian revolution against the shah. Khomeini marched with Shi ite (Shiyah) Ideology to denounce the Shahs and created a negative impression among the Iranian People against the Shah s regime. The Shi ite Ideologies were based on Islamic shariah, The Iranian culture was based on Islamic culture with an increasing influence of western culture and the shah s regime was friendly with the western culture policies and mostly against the Shi ite Islamic fundamentalism. The second difference was, shi ite (shiyah) ideology doesn t support the monarchy or imperialism in Islamic countries, the Iranian culture in that time were divided in their ideology in between shi ite (Shiyah) and shahs, and the shah s regime was totally a monarchy and supported by the US and western policy makers. Addressing crime is the most important responsibility of law enforcement agencies and although there is an increase in crimeand criminal acts, the research indicates that response methods will need to be enhanced in order for any law enforcement agency to be successful. In my opinion, law enforcement agencies have response methods implemented that work well for their departments and the communities they serve, but with the increase in terrorism, cyber crimes, gun violence, localized crime, and the growing population, response methods will have to be improved to keep up with these increases. Marxism As AConflict Theory Marxism is a conflict theory based on the idea that society is in conflict with each other; the conflict is between the rich and the poor ( A Brief Introduction to Marxism ). The basic tenets of Marx s theory rest on the conflict between the different classes of society of which, Marx states that the ideas of the ruling class are in every epoch the ruling ideas: i.e.,the class which is the ruling material force of society is at the same time its ruling intellectual force. Conrad s novella portrays the historical era of Imperialism, when European countries, Great Britain included, were laying claim to parts of the African continent for its riches in natural resources. The idea that Imperialism was the highest stage of capitalism , expressed by Vladimir Lenin, a proponent of Marxism, adds an important layer to a study of the novella using Marxist theory (Marxism: Essential Writings). A look at one small scene from Section III of the novel, in which the young Russian speaks about Kurtz to Marlowe, blatantly illustrates the treatment of the workforce by the ruling class: He had, as he informed me proudly, managed to nurse Kurtz through two illnesses (he alluded to it as you would to some risky feat), but as a rule Kurtz wandered alone, far in the depths of the forest. Lack Of MarginalUtility Theory Suppliers might have to do a market research in order to forecast the consumer behaviour. To do this efficiently, firms might use marginal utility theory, namely principle of diminishing marginal utility together with indifference analysis. Utility is the satisfaction that people earn from the consumption of a certain quantity of a product (Mankiw and Taylor, 2014). Marginal utilityis the additional satisfaction that customer gains from consuming one extra unit within a given period of time. However, the more of a product a person consumes, the less additional utility they are able to gain from that extra unit. Understanding this situation, economists come up with indifference analysis. Indifference analysis shows how consumer chooses the combination between two goods but still obtains the same satisfaction and indifference curve is the graph which illustrates that combination. It means, at any points on indifference curve, the consumer is indifferent about how to combine the two goods. Diagrammatically, if a person chooses 6 units of good Y with 2 units of good X, his utility will not be different from choosing 4 units of Y with 3 units of X, as long as those points are still on the curve. Most indifference curves have a convex shape and the reason is this. The lower units of good Y, the bigger quantity of good X in order to satisfy the loss of good Y. Nevertheless, the amount of giving up one of these two good cannot be the same. In other words, if the one of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After graduation, he played ball on the Weber State team for three years and was All Conference and was then drafted to play professionally for the Houston Astros for three seasons where he won the Western Carolina League Batting Championship and was named Louisville Slugger in 1971. Kim Souzzi ReligionAnalysis Kim Souzzi was 23 when she succumbed glioblastoma, a terminal brain cancer that is incurable; however, her legacy lives on through what in the past was just science fiction. Kim s brain is cryogenically frozen in the hopes that it one day can be mapped and her conscious be uploaded to a computer. Experts in the field of neuroscience disagree whether or not the process is possible as time and technology are potent variables. Despite being riddled with moral, fundamental, and scientific questions Kim raised funding via her online blog and Reddit. There were mixed comments on Kim s blog, many supportive of her endeavor and many on the contrary. Ideals clash when it comes to human mortality. For centuries religion and science are in constant conflict,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kim s passion was neuroscience and studying the brain and it is only appropriate that she sought a higher cause following her death. Kim was denied a legacy dying so young so she hopes for a second chance with the advance of technology. It is therefore no question of science, religion, or morals; rather it is that her dying wishes right or wrong. We all have our own rituals surrounding death. Whether it is burial, cremation, cast into the ocean, or even used to further science, there is a purpose in the final rite. Kim s story is a touching one because like she states in the video on New York Times, she could just be buried and nothing more would come from that. Furthermore, she decides to continue sponsoring her passions even after death. No matter what paradigm or perspective one takes, Kim pursued what she truly loved in the hope that one day she will be a part of something greater than herself. Technology and science are not ready for the ambitions of Kim; however, time is the dependent factor in which science fiction will become science reality. I support her decision and what she is doing, she follows her ambitions and although peculiar and eccentric, they are however her final wishes and the opinions of the masses are irrelevant. The question of whether or not the computer with Kim s conscious is her or not, because that is a clash of science and philosophy. People are afraid of what they do not know. Virtual Mortality may be the key to preserving ideas of great minds, musicians, philosophers, inventors and innovators. Death will not be overcome by the prospect of the digital conscious rather life will continue. What was once history will continue to the future. The Seven HabitsOf Highly Effective People There Are A... Have you ever thought about what you re doing in Your future? What are your plans? are you proactive or un proactive? Well in the book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People There are a lot of things by Stephen Covey It can tell you if you re doing the right things with your life or not, and can get answers in the following 7th habits of life. Are you proactive ? do you do things without being asked to ? are you able to brush things off without getting offended or getting mad when someone tell you something ? Each day you and I get about 100 chances to choose whether to be proactive or reactive. by Stephen Covey. You get chances all the time to make choices. Some people choose to be proactive and do the right things. For example if your know you have to clean the house, why wait until your mom has to tells you and start yelling at you. It s better to be proactive and do it without her telling you. You can use this habit in so many ways. The proactive approach to a mistake is to acknowledge it instantly, and learn from it and not letting it happen again. you have the freedom to choose your response and to choose your action no one can choose them for you so, if your do something that s not right why complain and argue, yes you can but, at the same time you were the one to choose your actions. There are so many things in life that can put you down and make you upset. You should always take responsibility for your choices and that s the problems with today s humans in this world. Trying to point the finger at someone else, even tho they already know it was there fault. You re probably asking why ? that my question for so long but still not being able to get the answer, but i ll tell you my side of the point. You should always bounce back when you get hurt or get upset look at the positive side there is always a really big reason why things happen. Improperly Storing YourBoat Tips to Avoid Improperly Storing Your Boat Even though you may love being out on the water on your boat, the winter will eventually come and you will need to put your boat into storage. In order to avoid improperly storing your boat, you must be aware of the dangers of improperly storing your boat, as well as how to store it correctly. The Dangers One thing to watch out for is the temperature of the place you are storing your boat. Your boat is constructed with materials that can be sensitive to extremely cold or hot temperatures. For example, an extremely cold storage climate could cause wood to warp, and an extremely hot storage climate may compromise the boat s overall structure due to the metals that can bend. Paul Krugman Microcononomics16-17 1 Chapter 16 Externalities Consumers and producers are internal to a transaction. Consumers receive a benefit from the goods they purchase, while producers pay the costs of production. An externality (sometimes called a spillover) is a cost or benefit that goes to someone external to a transaction. Pollution is a negative (cost) externality. Education and research create a positive externality. Externalities can result from consumption or production. 2 An Example: Suppose that the costs of raising livestock are mostly borne by the rancher, but there is a spillover cost. Streams nearby get polluted, and this affects people (and other species) who use the stream as well as spinach farmers who also use the water for irrigation. ... If spinach farmers have the right to clean water, then ranchers will not be willing to pay spinach farmers enough, and will be forced to prevent the pollution. If ranchers have the right to pollute the water, then spinach farmers would be willing to pay them enough to prevent it. Either way, the stream will not be polluted, and this is the most efficient outcome. 14 Suppose that costs are too high Suppose the cost of preventing stream pollution is higher than the cost to spinach producers and other users of the stream. Enzymatic And BiochemicalConstraints On The Utilization... Enzymatic and biochemical constraints on the utilization of terrestrially derived carbon The problem with using terrestrial derived carbon is not its energy content per se, but rather the accessibility of the energy contained within this material and the suitability of the biochemical composition of the resource for synthesis of new biomass in animals. Biological recalcitrance is due to kinetic, not thermodynamic, limitations. For example, a variety of terrestrial plants have average energy contents of 19 В± 1 MJ kg 1 (В± 1 SD) (Friedl et al., 2005), which is slightly higher than for proteins and carbohydrates (i.e., 17 MJ kg 1), but considerably less than the average energy content of fats (38 MJ kg 1) and alcohols (29 MJ kg 1) (Blaxter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The structural carbon that dominates the tissues of many higher plants is comprised in large part of lignins and cellulose (Meyers Ishiwatari, 1993). Lignocellulose degradation in terrestrial soil systems plays a central role in the global carbon budget, but currently the fundamental understanding of the degradation of these compounds is only rudimentary (Benner et al., 1988; Lynd et al., 2002; Martinez et al., 2005). Cellulose is the most prevalent component of plant tissue comprising 35 50% of dry weight, and is generally embedded in a biopolymer structural matrix including hemicelluloses (20 35% of dry wt.) and lignin (5 30% of dry wt.) (Lynd et al., 2002), with other biochemicals such as carbohydrates, lipids and proteins comprising a much smaller portion of plant tissues (Martinez et al., 2005). The lignocellulosic component of the plant undergoes self assembly at the site of biosynthesis and is composed of randomly polymerized polyphenolics intertwined with hemicellulose, resulting in a hydrophobic crystalline or complex amorphous structure, which protects against biodegradation. Collectively these physical properties of lignocellulose do not present well defined enzymatic targets, making it difficult for enzymes to bind to susceptible sites and thereby conferring considerable resistance to microbial degradation (e.g., Moran Hodson, 1989). Kennedy Middle SchoolGarden Case Study The Kennedy Middle School fifth grade class is growing a school garden. The students are very excited to grow a garden, but animals have been eating the goods, so a fence needs to be put in. The total cost to fence in the garden will be $159. The class calculated this by finding the perimeter (in feet) and multiplying it by the cost per foot of fence, $1.50. The Pythagorean Theorem a2 +b2=c2 helped find the hypotenuses of the two right triangles that the garden can be broken into, which helped the find the perimeter. The class first wrote the Pythagorean Theorem, which is a2 +b2=c2, to find the hypotenuses of the triangles. The legs of the triangles were represented by a and b and the hypotenuse was represented by c. After writing the equation, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Analytical VersusHolistic Approach Of Leadership Essay Overview In general, we are familiar with the quote managers do things right while leaders do the right things. In essence, the analytical versus the holistic approach of leadership addresses these two separate and distinct functions within an organization. For instance, a manager focuses on the daily operations of an organization with an emphasis on team delivery, budgeting, and supervising the employees. Contrarily, leaders within an organization focus their time on improvements and innovation. In particular, leaders can perform this function since they are not responsible for running the team and mired up in minutia. As a result, there is a misnomer that managers are leaders and leaders remain managers, but they are not exclusive. Therefore, being a manager and a leader requires different abilities and dispositions. With this in mind, management entails having the skills to plan, delegate, communicate, and motivation. An individual with the administrative skills may focus on the daily operations of an organization with an emphasis on team delivery, budgeting, and supervising the employees. Moreover, managers are working on organizational efficiency, speeding up the operation to cut costs and increasing productivity, and enforcing the rules and procedures. By having the proper leadership traits, managers can conceive the right decisions and accomplish these goals. As an illustration, consider a manager working on a budget, yet lacks the leadership characteristic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Carbon Pollution As ofmid 2017 it has been recorded that a concentration 407 parts per million of Carbon Dioxide are present in the atmosphere. The current Carbon Dioxide concentration in our atmosphere is the highest recorded in the past 20 million years and it is due to human activities; mainly fossil fuel consumption and deforestation. This tremendous increase in malicious greenhouse gases in our atmosphere has started to have a noticeable impact on our earth. These effects have mobilized the efforts of governments throughout different continents to start making significant change in the policies regarding climate change. carbon offsets, carbon trading and cap and trade are concepts being implemented throughout countries with the intention of limiting the amount of CO2 major industries are permitted of releasing. Although, these concepts were created with upright intent, the industries that such concepts were created for have found ways of corrupting these programs. This is because all three of the previous concepts have loopholes in which a company can purchase the right to release as much carbon dioxideas they are willing to spend for it. Pakistani Pharmaceutical Industry OPPORTUNITIES Forecastspredict that by 2016 Pakistan will be the 11th largest pharmaceutical market in the Asia Pacific region, which is the major core world s population and growth pole. The industry is a net beneficiary of the boom in base materials mostly from China and this positively impacts their margins. Further treaties and trade agreements will boost this trend further. The country s Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) has registered positive growth of 1.85 percent during the July Sep first quarter of the current FY13 over the corresponding period of the last FY12 showing signs of improvements. The manufacturing items observed growth throughout the first quarter over the same period of last year involved pharmaceuticals (4.09%). The Negative EffectsOf Media In The Media In today s modern social and public media children can come across many different forms of unwanted profanity and bad practices. As this becomes more and more prevalent children are slowly becoming more and more accustomed to hearing and seeing profane things. Children are being impacted in a negative way when crossing negative and profane media. This media can lead to children developing a sense of fear, lack of respect towards their piers and others around them, and a desensitizing of emotions and thoughts. These days its pretty hard not to come across content in media that can be offensive and or profane. This is partly due to the fact that movie and media rating companies are becoming more and more lenient with what content is considered non profane and what is. For example, Kimberly M. Thompson and Fumie Yokota found in their research of the correlation between movie rating and profanityand violence saying, The MPAA mentioned alcohol or drugs in its rating reason for 18% of films, while Screen It! assigned a score above none for tobacco and/or alcohol/drugs for 95% of films and above none for alcohol/drugs for 93%... This shows that more and more movies and shows are staring to include this profane content and are still being classified as PG or PG 13. Another study referenced in Chandra Johnson s article about Kids and swear words: Can profanity in media hurt? referenced a study by VidAngle saying, from the first swear word on film (1939 s Gone with the Wind ) to 2013 s The Wolf of Wall Street, which holds the record with 798 swearwords an increase of 500 percent over 74 years.... This shows that swear words and profanity are being included more and more in movies and media. We instead need to include versions of movies that are censored and child family friendly. Having this decrease in profanity standards means that children are going to be exposed to profanity at a much faster rate. This will increase the rate at which children are affected and can lead to the negative affects listed above. Having children become fearful, disrespectful, and desensitized when it comes to emotion will lead to social and economic issues later down in their lives. For example, Rupal Patel (a child ...
