In southern fiction there are many characters to be found that possess heroic, or
idealized, views of their ancestors. These same characters are often times burdened
by, or feel responsible for, the legacy left behind by their families. The ancestor s
beliefs are like ghost constantly haunting characters in southern literature. Fennell

was simple but the concept of coloring the water at that time was difficult. As eight
years old I observed that water was colorless every time I used it to wash my hand

Sarah Kane Crave Analyse
My over arching idea for my production of Crave is that I want to give the play
some context while also maintaining the theme that these characters could represent
anyone. The reason I want to give the play some background is because on my first
read of the play, before I read the Saunders article in which Sarah Kane talks about
the relationships between C and A, and B and M, a lot of the themes of the play
were lost on me because I was so focused on trying to figure out what was going on.

I don t want the rest of the stage to be dark though, as that would isolate the
characters when I want them to talk to each other, so the rest of the stage is
slightly dimmer then the spots. The tone and color of the fill lights changes
slightly throughout the show, following the color changes of the cyclorama. The
cyc is my central design element for the show. When I read Crave, it seemed to me
that the play was divided into different emotional sections, and I want to use the
cyc to reflect that. When the lights come up after the characters enter, I want the
cyc to be a medium dark purple, which I think helps give the feeling that the play is
taking place in the city, which is what I gathered from the dialogue. The purple
should be dark enough that it gives the audience a sense of unease, as each of the
characters relate depressing tales and talk heatedly with one another. When A begins
his speech, I want the cyc to fade into a bright amber that assaults the audience s
eyes when it first appears. This symbolizes how upon first glance, A s speech appears
happy and innocent, which the color yellow is associated with, but that yellow is
tainted with something darker and sinister, making it amber. Then, when C
mentions being raped, I want the cyc to fade to a scarlet red, because this I think
this marked the transition to the most violent part of the play. Then when C says,
No one can hate me more than myself , I want the cyc to start transitioning to a
medium blue. As the play continues, I want that blue to get continually darker,
symbolizing the characters sinking into despair. When B says Kill me , I want the
cyc and all of the lights to fade away, implying that the characters have passed away.

two totally different meanings. A combination of signs are used in adverts to create a
recognisable identity for the product or the emotion the advert/poster is trying to
communicate to the audience. There are meanings within these signs which are built

It was a typical Saturday night working as a waiter. The dinner rush had just ended
and I was catching up on some side work. As I am refilling the salad dressings, the
hostess informs me that she had just sat a table in my section. After arriving at the
table and introducing myself, I proceed to ask for their drink orders. The first
words articulated out the woman s mouth are spoken with a deep, thick, Irish
accent. I could not help but acknowledge it and after chatting for a few minutes, I
come to learn that they had just arrived from the airport and are vacationing in
Florida for two weeks. After taking both parents drink orders, I ask their son what
he would like to drink. Like the true Irish man he is, he asks me for a Guinness. He
looked a little young to be drinking so I asked him for some id. He hands me the id
and it reads that he is only nineteen years old. I had to explain to them that the legal

development is one of the most poorly understood elements of the southwest Pacific.
The Melanesian arc comprised New Britain, New Ireland and Bougainville of Papua
New Guinea, much of the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Fiji (e.g. Abbott, 1995;
Kroenke, 1984; Musgrave, 1990; Petterson et al., 1999). Since the time of arc
formation, however, these terranes have undergone complex tectonic reorganizations
within the southwest Pacific by multiple episodes of arc/forearc collision, subduction
cessation and subsequent subduction polarity reversal to displace and reorientate the
fragments of arc basement (Hall, 2002; Petterson et al., 1999; Schellart et al., 2006).
It is well understood that New Britain was previously part of the Melanesian arc
where the Pacific plate subducted to the southwest at the Melanesian trench (Fig. 1
and 4; Petterson et al., 1999). However, the timing for initial arc formation is poorly
constrained. The main body of New Britain is composed of typical island arc
magmatic rocks of Eocene and Oligocene age (Fig. 5). The Baining Volcanics
represent the initiation of arc magmatism at the convergent plate boundary between
the Australian and Pacific plates (Lindley, 2006; Madsen and Lindley, 1994), and

The first idea that came to mind when asked to invent a literary journal was one that
sought to answer the question if there was a need for a new literary journal, how it
could be relevant or differ from other literary journals. The answer came with the idea
of creating a journal with the concept of appealing to a younger audience and helping
them to grow with the understanding that there is a bigger world beyond what they
witness everyday with endless possibilities to create something, anything new.
CR8 cion is a biannual print journal of poetry, fiction, and art created and intended
for young artists between the ages of 5 to 17. Our mission statement says, CR8 cion
brings creativity and appreciation for literary journals to young writers and artists.
We hope to help others bring the love of literature into the minds and hands of
children and young adults to show them a world of possibilities beyond the norm of
