Essay On Tennis Courts
Types of Tennis Courts
1.Clay Courts
Clay courts are considered slow since a ball will bounce relatively higher and more slowly on a
clay court, thus making it much more difficult for a player to hit unreturnable shots. Clay courts are
unique in that the ball bounce leaves a mark on the surface, and this mark can be used to determine
whether or not the shot was in.
Type of Surface/Material
Clay courts are made from natural stone that is crushed into different levels. The finest level which
is in powder form is used for the upper most layers and loosely bound together with water.
Effects on Style of Play
Clay surface results in significantly longer rallies than the other three surfaces. Horizontal velocity

Making An Outdoor Art Installation
When I thought about making an outdoor art installation, images of towering sculptures appeared
in my head. In the corner of one, I imagined a spider web. The web was truly intricate, delicate,
and breathtaking. Yet I desperately pushed the image away. Unable to shake the image, I was
terrified that the tiny artist who made that web would suddenly appear in my mind. When I
realized how irrational it was to fear an imaginary spider, I knew I had to make an installation of a
spider webto face my crippling arachnophobia. I reminded myself of a famous saying from
Eleanor Roosevelt: You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you
really stop to look fear in the face... you must do the thing which you think you cannot do. I wanted
that confidence, and I needed to believe I had enough strength and courage to create this piece.
As an artist, my innate need to create is based on a need to express myself. According to Drozt,
visionary art refers to art made with an inner vision or an intense feeling that is expressed
throughout the work (2008). Visionary art accurately captures the drive and feelings I experience
when I feel conceptually inspired, although I do not consider myself an outsider to artmaking. My
work is always personal and I strive to be genuine to that experience. Because of this experience, I
have added a layer of intentionality in my selection of materials and contemplation of the art s
environment to my method of working. When I

Treaty Of Versailles Dbq Essay
The treaty solved none of the major problems which caused the Great War in the first place.
France, Great Britain, and Italy wanted to make sure Germany would never be a military threat
again so they wanted to avenge the war by making Germany take all the blame for starting the war.
Germany was not even permitted to send delegates to the conference. Huge reparation payments
were awarded the allies and Germanywas never able to make the payments which only weakened
her poor economic situation, and it became worse with the onset of the Depression of the 1930s.
All of Germany s colonies were taken from them and they were not permitted to have a military
other than a national police force. Hitler would later use the treaty as the cause of all the problems
faced by Germany and convince the people that he could restore national pride and world
recognition of Germany as an equal nation. The treaty of Versailleshelped cause world war II by
demanding that they pay billions in reparation, forcing them to sign the war guilt clause, taking
vital land away from them, and most importantly greatly restricting Germanys military.... Show

Our Secret by Susan Griffin Essay
Susan Griffin s Our Secret is a study in psychology. It is a look into the human mind to see what
makes people do the things they do and in particular what makes people commit acts of violence.
She isolates the first half of the twentieth century and in particular the era of the Second World
War as a basis for her study. The essay discusses a number of people but they all tie in to Heinrich
Himmler. He is the extreme case, he who can be linked directly to every single death in the
concentration camps. Griffin seeks to examine Himmler because if she can discern a monster like
Himmler than everyone else simply falls into place. The essay also tries to deduce why something
like the Holocaust, although never mentioned directly, can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The earliest entries in this diary betray so little. Like the words of a schoolboy commanded to
write what the teacher requires of him, they are wooden and stiff. The stamp of his father s
character is so heavy on this language that I catch not even a breath of a self here. (Griffin 407 408)
He became a man who thought not for himself but preferred to have others give him commands.
That is why he rose to power in the Nazi party, he did not question orders but rather thrived on
them. Following Hitler with unwavering loyalty, he is known as der treur Heinrich, true
Heinrich. He describes himself as an instrument of the Fuhrer s will (Griffin 421). Did the
violence in Himmler stem from his adoration of his brother, the perfect physical specimen.
Heinrich tried his whole life to be like his older brother, strong and masculine. So much so that
while serving as Reichsfuhrer he devised a set of standards for the Aryan Race to live up to.
One could argue that these standards were modeled after his brother. Himmler s belief in
physical superiority led to the suppression and deaths of many who did not measure up which is
ironic because Himmler himself was frail and did not meet any of his own standards. Influenza
struck Himmler as a child which prevented him from becoming strong as an adult. Compared with
his brother he is weak. He sees his brother and how popular he is. This led Himmler to associate

Grimm Godfather Death
The authors Jacob and Wilhem Grimm let the readers imagine real life situations that people
believe they face every day. The metaphor that they use is God, Satan and Death; these are all
things that we are faced with in our daily lives. The story Godfather Death is told in 3rd person
omniscient. Whereas, this story comes down to choices, these choices determine their fate. The
father has 12 children that he can hardly feed and provide for, so the man is out in the street
searching for the right person to be his 13th child godfather. The man was approached by GOD,
I do not wish to have you for a godfather, said the man. You give to the rich, and let the poor
starve. The man was approached by Satan, Then I do not wish to have you for a godfather, said
the man. You deceive mankind and lead them astray. Then Death comes along, I am Death, who
makes everyone equal. You are the right one. You take away the rich as well as the poor, without
distinction. I will make your child rich and famous, for he who has me for a friend cannot fail (13).
In general, peoplegreed, selfishnessand desire for power always cause them to lose everything. What
good does love, money, status, and power do, if a man loses his life?
The symbol death plays a major role in the story, a young doctor making bad choices when he had

I Know About Breeding A Dog Essay
In 2015 for christmas I had recieved a female Australian Shepherd puppy. She is a blue merle with
brown eyes. When I first got her I loved her and couldn t wait for her to be old and have puppies of
her own. What I didn t understand is how difficult of a process it was to get a dog bred. I didn t
know the first thing about breeding a dog. However if I wanted my dog to have puppies then I
needed to learn about it.
I know that a dog comes in heat roughly every six months. I know it is during that time period
the they would get bred. Some things I have heard from my family was that a bitch has to be bred
at certain times. They will only stand and allow breeding a certain numbers of days. I have no
knowledge of when that takes place. I know that a bitch s cycle can last for weeks. The only way I
would know when my dog needs bred is to put her in with a male and see if she allows him to
breed her.
When you don t have a male dog that is hard to do. Picking a male for her is a hard task. When
breeding Australian Shepherd you have to be cautious about which types are bred. I know that
you should not breed a merle to a merle because it cause defects. I am not for sure why this happens
so picking a dog needs to be done carefully.
Section II
When researching my question the first thing that needs to be looked up is a partner. I first looked
up the proper partner for a blue merle. Australian Shepherds can only be breed between certain
type. If the wrong ones are bred it can

Why Creationism Should Not Be Taught in Public Schools...
A hotly debated topic concerning public schools centers on the origin of life. Now more than ever,
science and religion are butting heads. What should public schools teach to their students? Alex
Rainert reasons that both science and religion are engaged in the same project, to discover the
origin of life (141). In short, one could better describe the debate as a crusade between evolutionists
and creationists; both sides have their well founded arguments, but when one looks at the decisions
of the courts, clearly only one side may win the battle when deciding biology curriculum in schools.
Despite an overwhelming number of individuals in favor of teaching creationismin public education,

Otherwise, teaching creationism encroaches upon separation of church and state.
Certainly many Americans in favor of teaching both theories may do so for the sake of imparting
critical thinking skills to our schoolchildren. Costley and Killins agree with this notion,
emphasizing that true academics teaches schoolchildren alternate theories as well as analytical
thinking (5). As a result, creationists weigh in heavily at schools, compelling them to introduce
other scientific theories dealing with the origin of life (Raymo 152). In this regard, when it applies
to all area of academics, many more people would agree. Teaching only one theory on any matter
seems indicative of a totalitarian form of education. Therefore, teachers should want to introduce
students to as many alternative theories as possible. However, the dissenting theories they present
must have factual ground on which to stand on. Since the theory of creationism stands on shaky
ground scientifically, it should have no place in science education classes.
Interestingly, Alex Rainert, a man in favor of teaching both creationism and evolution, states that
evolution is as much a theory as the theory of plate tectonics or Einstein s theory of relativity. Yet,
he explains, a campaign against those theories in courtrooms is, in essence, nonexistent (140).

Society and Technology in The Anthem Essay
Now a days, when we think of the future, we picture flying cars, and being able to transport. In
the novel The Anthem society and technology as we know it had been driven to an entirely new
direction. The characters in the society do not have the right to speak freely nor do anything that
they wish. They lost all of their freedom, they couldn t even think for themselves. The society had
to think as a whole, the word I did not exist in their vocabulary. The society is very balanced, and
everyone fears the thoughtof even questioning it. Up until one man known as Equality 7 25271

One of the many benefits of having the novel written in a diary format, is that you get to really
understand what the character feels about his surroundings. Most of the other people in the society
don t notice their setting nor do they have knowledge of anything else. Equality 7 2521 describes
his surroundings as being small and dark, all the buildings which are plain mark the housing of
several different people. All the citizens of this society are over worked and tired yet they have no
intention of complaining because they fear the punishment. This novel would not be the same if it
was written in any other form other then a diary, as well as if the novel was written in first
person. It would not have to same effect on the readers. There are so many diaries, but all are
written in the first person, so The Anthem is unique. We get a better understanding when Equality
7 2521 writes in third person, without it, we would only hear his thoughts and observations
instead of the ones he has gathered from others. To illustrate, when he first meets Liberty 5 3000,
the readers were able to pick up some signs that she shows, these prove that she was a bit
interested in him. But Equality 7 2521 in the other hand found himself very attracted to her, and as
if to not make any obvious communication, he decides to admire her from afar and she does the
same to him. Equality later starts to call

The Origins Of Behavioral Modernity
The origins of behavioral modernity has been the topic of debates for many experts in the
anthropological field; however, there seems to be a consensus that behavioral modernity can be
characterized by abstract thinking, planning, symbolic behavior (e.g. art and ornamentation), use of
stone and blade technologies and many others. The use of abstract thought and symbolic
representation is one of the defining characteristics of humans. Creating art is a shared trait among
all humanpopulations, and the ubiquity of art translates the value that all human cultures and groups
place on the creation of symbolic representation.
Earliest archeological findings for hominid art seems to be during the Upper Paleolithic Age with
the Homo sapiens about 40,000 years ago. Older possible examples of art could be the incised
ochre in the Blombos Caves; however, archeologists and anthropologists are still trying to decipher
the reasoning behind the motifs on the walls of the cave and whether to attribute the motifs to
early humans. Art created in the Upper Paleolithic Age have been found in Aurignacian Europe
and the Levant, a large area in the Eastern Mediterranean. The art dates to about 40,000 years ago,
and on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia and certain areas of Africa, there is evidence suggesting
that art may have earlier origins (Indonesian Cave Paintings As Old As Europe s Ancient Art).
Although most of the Upper Paleolithic art did not survive erosion and other natural

Language And Literature Courses And Ap U.s. History
I ve always struggled to break the boundaries entangled within the composition of traditional essays.
Between AP Language/Literature courses and AP U.S. History, my writing had become noticeably
formulaic; I relied heavily on templates and felt awkward abandoning the traditional five paragraph
essay. Although the formulaic way of writingassisted in my capability to critically recognize the
difference between opinion and evidence, the patterns were not helpful in developing my
organizational skills. My ability to form argumentative ideas from given prompts strengthened,
while unity and coherence within paragraphs proved to be my downfall. It was not until my second
semester of English at the University of Georgia that I noticed my organization was not
comprehensible to the reader. Some paragraphs were like mazes; they left the reader wondering
how the first sentence connected to the following sentence. Along with organization, English 1102
helped identify my lack of transitional phrases within paragraphs and the tendency for my argument
to shift. Nonetheless, this course has highlighted my strengths as a writer, including my ability to
incorporate evidence so that it supports an intelligent, challenging thesis.
The most interesting aspect I discovered about my writing this semester is my ability to read,
appreciate, and interpret a piece of literature and write analytically about it. In this course I ve
grown to change my reading process completely. I had a tendency to read

Introduction It is matter of fact that the modern day workplace environment is changing at a very
high rate. The change is brought about by organizations need to incorporate new and innovative
strategies and models. For business entities, the new models and strategies present both
opportunities and benefits. For instance, the decision by most organizations to embrace diversity
provides them with a lot of opportunities in using the diverse knowledge and skills to their
advantage. At the same time, the issue of diversity brings about several challenges especially in
managing employees from different cultural and religious backgrounds. Despite the challenges that
the constant changes in the workplace environment offer to organizations, these changes have an
overall positive impact on their growth and development (Creasey Hiatt, 2003).
Body
The role of innovation in executing change strategies
When an organization is implementing change, there is usually resistance from its members. The
resistance is usually brought about by the members fear of the uncertainties related with the change.
For instance, there are instances when some organization members fear that the changes might lead
to them losing their jobs. In order to avoid such fears, leaders are supposed to employ innovation
when it comes to implementing change.
One of the innovation ways the management needs to use in implementing change is through

Abstract
This article paper aims at providing an overview of the article The long term health consequences
of child physical abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect: a systematic review and meta analysis by

abuse, emotional abuse and neglect with the subsequent mental and physical health outcomes.
Child physical abuse, emotional violence, sexual assault, and neglect are some of the most severe
concerns affecting children and our society as a whole. These behaviors have adverse short term

very expensive as a consequence tuition can range anywhere from 10,000 to 70,000 a year. Nearly
all collegestudents pay for college by a college fund, scholarship/grants, out of their own or parent s
pocket or borrowed money. Despite the fact some of those payments aren t directly coming from the
studentit is more than likely that they still don t have a stable income to provide themselves with
basic necessities. Most colleges don t provide students with basic necessities which means they
acquire to go out and obtain everything needed as far as food, supplies, books, also toiletries.
The average college student spends anywhere from $200 $700 a month on just the articles they
need. While on articles they want they spend anywhere from $20 $200. More than likely that most
college students don t work, notwithstanding first year students and athletes, which is a large
population of the school anyway. Today most students aren t obtaining a stable cash flow and
even the ones who are from allowances or a job tend to still most likely struggle with budgeting.
Budgeting can be a very difficult task even for adults or people making a substantial amount of
money, but it s not impossible if

Prevention of Employee Theft Essay
Prevention of Employee Theft
Why do employees feel free to steal? Most employee theft occurs because it is too easy. What can
a company do to prevent employee theft? What should a company do to employee thieves? The
following paragraphs summarize a few ideas.
Employee theft is a crime that is costing U.S. companies a great deal of money. Employee thefts
are growing in number, partially because the perpetrators really do not see themselves as criminals
and rationalize what they are doing in much the same way as taxpayers rationalize income tax
fraud. Employee theft is one of many personnel problems that is easier to prevent than to solve.
Prevention should begin before an applicant becomes an employee. Some theft ... Show more

Other techniques include limiting the likelihood of collusion by regularly changing work team
assignments, strengthening internal control, and separation of duties. A phony theft might also be
set up to see how quickly managers and staffers report it.
Another way that might prevent employee theft is through surveillance. In the early 1990 s Long
John Silver s Restaurants, Inc. installed surveillance cameras in their stores after having a history of
internal losses. The cameras proved to work during one of many instances. One instance included a
young cashier who had stolen over eighty dollars in less than two hours while working at the Long
John Silver s drive through window. Unfortunately for her, in the ceiling, over the drive through
register, a surveillance system had recorded her every move.
When presented with the videotaped evidence during a security interview, the cashier confessed to
stealing more than $500 in five weeks. The employee later pled guilty to felony theft charges. She
was ordered to make restitution to Long John Silver s for the full amount of her confessed theft.
The restaurant recovered the stolen money and avoided the greater expense of prosecuting the theft
(Price).
When a company finds evidence of employee theft, company officials must

My Firm s Services Regarding Proper Accounting Practices...
It has come to my understanding that you requested my firm s services regarding proper
accounting practices for the acquisition of long term debentures. Therefore, I write to you this
memo to address some issues you might be having with your newly obtained debt and to explain
how to properly amortize it. I have been informed that you already have an accounting expert that
advised you to use the Straight Line method of amortization for the discount on the bond. My
expertise lies on the Effective Interest method of amortization. 1.Determining Bond Price To
determine the price of the bond, the face value of the bond must be brought to its present value.
The rationale behind this comes from an investment principle that considers that the money given
up in the present could yield a gain in the long term if used as an investment. To arrive to the
present value, we use a market rate that represents the yield the average investor would require to
spend money in a new venture (in this particular case, 11%). Therefore, even though the Bond s
face value might be $1,000,000, your company is expected to get $924,623.74. The difference
between this two numbers, $75,376.26, is considered a discount that you allow for offering a rate
that is lower than the rate requested by the investors (in this case, 9%). 2.Amortization of Discount I
took the liberty of creating an amortization schedule to help you visualize the immediate difference
between straight line and effective interest methods

The Economic Model Growth Of Energy
Energy is one of the main drivers of economic and social development. Years ago, the only
uncertainty was the price of oil. Now the concern is if the current economic model growth is
reasonable in a world with limited energy resources. This has lead to more research in other
forms of resources of energy. Now we have other unconventional resources such as wind, solar,
geothermal, water, and so on. Energy demand is set to double by 2050 (Beckman, 2013).
Therefore, greenhouse gases could double by 2050 as well. Hence, renewable energyis vital.
However seen as fossil fuelis still the dominate source of energy, it makes it the current economic
model growth rate somewhat unreasonable.
Acceleration rate in policy, technological innovation, and consumer expectations are making the
energy market increasingly complex. We would need innovation, incentives, investments and
stronger technical standards to reduce the world s energy intensity. When the industrial revolution
began, the amount of carbon in Britain in form of coal was as much as the carbon in Saudi Arabia
in from of oil. This coal improved the economy of Great Britain in 19th and thereafter. Just as
coal production had its peak and declined thereafter, is the same way the oil production would.
About 55 of the 65 oil producing countries have already peaked in production. Many of the other
countries left are expected to follow in the near future. Modern cities are fossil fuel dependent; even
roads are made from bitumen.

Birth Control Coverage
Birth Control Coverage is Helpful, Not Sinful Many women take birth control not just to prevent

her feelings to Planned Parenthood s website, ...My birth controlis the most expensive prescription
I have to take, and it worries me that I might have to choose between a medicine I need for my
health and other things I need like food, gas, and rent. (Kathryn). There is a debate right now in our
society about birth control coverage. Some people have beliefs that birth control should not be
covered by insurance companies because it would cause religious conflict in the work environment,
but others believe that insurance companies should fully cover the price of birth control because it
has many health benefits for the consumers. Birth control should be covered by insurance

Essay about The Wide World of Tea
The Wide World of Tea
Introduction
Consumed as a beverage for the past two to three thousand years in southeast China, tea has an
extensive past (Eden 1). The first Chinese tea leaves were believed to be brewed in open pans,
however during the Ming Dynasty (1368 1644 AD) it was discovered steeping the leaves in hot
water produced the most flavorful drink (Tillberg). Since the heat of the water was an essential
component to producing a desirable beverage, a lidded vessel was created to contain the heat
during the steeping process. This vessel evolved into the teapot most of us are familiar with today.
The cultivation of tea plants is believed to have originated in China, but it soon spread to other
areas of Asia. Green tea was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a many stemmed bush that only reaches heights around 2.75 meters high, yet it has a long
economic life. The reason for this is that this variety continuously sends up fresh stems so the
plants can grow to at least 100 years old and still produce good quality yields of leaves. When this
variety is grown at a higher altitude, like Darjeeling, it produces tea with a coveted, valuable flavor
(Harler 2 3).
The second variety, Assam, is a single stemmed tree that can reach heights of twenty to sixty feet
in height. It is found in northeast India and has an economic life of approximately forty years
with regular plucking and pruning. This variety has five main subcategories; Manipuri, Lushai,
Burma, light leaf Assam, and finally dark leaf Assam. The dark leaf Assam is highly prized for the
fine quality golden tip teas it produces (Harler 3).
The final variety, the Cambodian variety is also known as the Indo China variety. It is not currently
cultivated on any tea plantations, but rather naturally crossed with other varieties to produce
particular characteristics in a tea plant. It is a single stemmed tree that reaches heights around
sixteen feet high and has leaves that are folded in a V shape, a characteristic unique to this variety
(Harler 3).

Summary Of Where The Red Fern Grows
Two dogs, and one of the happiest little boys I have ever read about, Billy couldn t be sad for
more than ten minutes. And this is what brings me to believe that Wilson Rawls explores the idea
in Where the Red Fern Grows that hard work could bring you to a much happier and satisfying life.
For the first example, it is when Billy worked for his two dogs. Billy worked for two years to get
Little Ann and Old Dan. When he first started, it was difficult. He most likely thought he wouldn t
be able to do it. But when he did, he was shocked, but also happy. And when he got those dogs, he
cried. And he even said himself that he was the most elated boy in the world.
My second example is when he caught his first raccoon with Old Dan and Little Ann. It was the
beginning of the hunting season. And his mom let him go hunting. When he took the dogs out,
they found the smell of a raccoon. At first, it was hard to catch the raccoon, because Little Ann
and Old Dan wouldn t go across a river. But he kept pushing and saying they could do it. They
finally did, and when him and his dad were skinning the raccoon, Billy couldn t have been more
proud and happy of him and his dogs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Narrative Research Method
THE NARRATIVE RESEARCH METHOD
The use of narrative research in IS has been limited although there have been some recent
publications (Alvarez amp; Urla, 2002; Davidson, 1997; Dube amp; Robey, 1999, Hirschheim
amp; Newman, 1991). Table 2 lists some of these studies. However, the clear understanding of how
to conduct, interpret and describe narrative research in the context of information systems does not
exist and is being provided in this paper. Here, we explain the theoretical foundations and key
elements of narrative research and present an exemplar of the application of this method.

In this study, a brief overview of the research was followed by the open ended question. I am
studying the role of ICT in socio economic development; please tell me the story of your life. The
goal is to provide the storytellers with flexibility and choice to narrate the story in a way that is
most comfortable to them.
According to Riessman (1993), there are five steps to conducting and analyzing narratives:
Attending. This deals with the notion of how a storyteller reflects, remembers, and recollects the
primary experience . It is important to pay attention to how a storyteller makes sense of an
experience, the context of the experience itself, and his/her selectivity of the experience.
Telling. The performance of a personal narrative . A storyteller sequences and orders the events of
the experience in a particular way. Meaning is constructed by the storyteller about his/her
experience at this level. The narrative method allows for flexibility in how the story is
communicated. While oral tradition is the oldest form, other expressions such as biography, story,
novel, essay or even a drawing could communicate how people interpret a phenomenon.
Transcribing. This step refers to choice of putting words into text/language, a fixation of action for
interpretation. This step does not necessarily mean literal textual

Netflix Case Study
The Big Red Monster vs. The Theatres The arrival of Netflix and other streaming services have
had an enormous impact on the Television and Movie industries. With these changes that have
happened comes drastic opinions on economic utility. Economic utility is the amount of
satisfactory a customer is granted from a product or service. On one hand you have the
customer that would rather stay home and watch a movie on Netflix. On the other hand you
have a customer that would go to the theatre to watch the newest movies. These are the movies
that people on netflix can t experience yet. In this project I am going to discuss the impact that
Netflix has had on the movie and television industries. There are four different variables of
economic utility that have evolved with the arrival of Netflix. These include product form, time,
place, and product possession. First off, I m going to talk about the impact the movie industry
had on economy before the arrival of Netflix. Before Netflix, movie theatres had different
competitors. Some of these include sporting events, restaurants, and clubs. People would have to
decide what they wanted to do during their free time. One of the economic utilities that was very
different before Netflix was place. Unless people were using the internet to watch videos they
would have to go to the theatres or rent a movie to take home. They were not able to just pull up

What Is A Marching Band Essay
What is marching band? A marching band show is arranged musical show that utilizes both bodies
and a variety of instruments. While spectators see this unique show they don t often realize how
much work actually goes into a halftime performance. Band members must analyze every moment
and focus on hitting their notes while getting to their designated spot on the field.
A marching band show is a moving picture; something completely different. It s a little bit of math
and theatre and obviously music.
Learning to get to the right mark on the field while hitting the right note on a musical instrument
takes a lot of sacrifice, hard work, preparation and teamwork. It takes a gifted and dedicated
student to play high quality and performance ready music. In a marching band, that same student
accomplishes physically rigorous and complex drills, keeps the music coming and balances
between multiple hours of practice each week along with academics and other responsibilities such
as work, family and other things of the sort. A marching band is complemented by color guard, that
practices equally rigorous hours to go along with the show, using colorful flags, rifles, props, and ...

military by giving music and used as a sort of correspondence between driving troops. This kind
of marching band was restricted to simply percussion and brass, for example, the snare and the
trumpet. The military would oftentimes use the trumpet as a sort of alert to wake up or to

then started losing its essentialness after the war got done with, obliging John Philip Sousa to take
his band on tour. His marching style is thought to be significantly American and his most

Puritan Ethic Essay
The Puritan Ethic, is it What God Wanted?
The Puritans were a people that moved to North America in order to escape religious persecution in
the mid 17th century. They had very strict rules that they were required to live by if they wanted to
make it to Heaven. Because of this, many stories have been written about them, including 1952 s
Crucible by Arthur Miller. This story is about the witch trials that were held in Salem,
Massachusetts. This story is particularly interesting because it is based on true events, and for this
reason, there are many parts to analyze. As it turns out, there is a theory that relates almost directly
with their actions, Structuralism. Applying the Structuralism Theory to the Crucible helps readers
understand the reason why the Puritans are so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because their system is built on a foundation of faith and trust, if this is left in the dust, they have
nothing to hold the rest up. This is where the Structuralism theory gets even stronger. Humans
need a higher power, they need something bigger than them to explain all the bad things that
happen. Because their need is so powerful, they lose their common sense. The result of this is
very easy to see and is the entire plot of the story. The officials refuse to believe the someone could
be lying to them to cause trouble and to save themselves, which results in lots of death, pain, and
suffering.
In closing, the Structuralist Theory is extremely useful in determining the reasons for the actions
of the church officials in the Crucible. After applying it, the causes of their actions become much
more clear and the harshness can be excused to an extent. It gives the analyzer a line of sight into
the mind of the leader and that if this was not dealt with, they knew that both their beliefs and
those of the people who they lead, would all be

The Transformation Of Separate States Into One Empire Essay
As our main focus is the transformation of disparate states into a single empire, we will discuss
the key points in the rise and fall of each empire before examining which common points helped
them consolidate their power and which mistakes resulted in their downfall. Both dynasties were
relatively short lived, and a theory regarding the unification and maintenance of an empire is
relevant to both. The Qin worked tirelessly to strengthen the state as a whole, by recruiting
advisors, strategists, and diplomats from other territories and developing their military capabilities.
Furthermore, they strengthened the power of their ruler with Legalist measures (which they
applied ruthlessly in war as well), which resulted in a law abiding population. Healthy agricultural

noble houses, divided up country, and sent his own officials to administrate each prefecture. He

the possession of private arms made him less popular amongst commoners and wealthy families as
well. Finally, he suppressed scholars and did not accept criticism of his government, thus isolating
himself from another group of people who could have helped him greatly. In a similar vein, the Sui

Ventilator associated pneumonia is defined as pneumonia arising 48 hours or more after

Host factors, the virulence of bacteria, and most importantly the presence of an endotracheal tube
determine the development of VAP. The tube is detrimental not only because it provides the conduit
for bacteria, but also because it abolishes the cough reflex.
Bacteria get access to the lungs via microaspiration and through the biofilm that is formed in the
inner surface of the endotracheal tube or leakage of secretions around the cuff. Spread from an
adjacent site of infection or via the blood represent rare causes of VAP. Pathogenic bacteria usually
replace endogenous flora and colonize the nasopharynx, the oropharynx, the sinuses and the
stomach subsequently collecting inside and around the endotracheal tube. Positive pressure
ventilation also contributes to VAP development by thrusting bacteria into the airways. Antibiotic
exposure, severity of underlying disease and previous surgery have been implicated as host factors
[5,8].
Various strategies have been applied for the prevention of VAP, each with different levels of
evidence. Preventive measures against VAP development can be divided into five distinct groups:

Three Categories Of Crimes
Crimes come in all different types and in all different variations and in different levels of how
grotesque they are but all happen to fall under the same three categories. Crimes are classified by
three different categories, Infractions, Misdemeanors, and Felonies but then crimes are broken
down more within each of these categories and the sentences for these can range from a fine to
the death penalty. Each state has its own set of laws for which they follow for all crimes
committed and what the sentences or fines should be given for the crimes in question and if
they cannot decide how it should be ruled over then they can look to past cases that had set
precedent for those crimes and see the old ruling and determine from there. Infractions are the
smallest of all three of these because this just includes a fine, no jail time, you have no right to a
trial by a jury, or an attorney/public defender. These are normally considered a petty offense is the

Most people would be annoyed at giving an organization around $20 a month. However, when it
is broken down into a daily contribution that is less than a dollar a day, it seems feasible for
people to donate the amount to aid these poor animals. The images of the animals for whom the
assistance came too late implies that if one more person had donated, that animal would have
been saved. Therefore, the commercial implies that if they do not donate, the animal in need of
their aid will die. Their plea for donations is supported by the images of the doleful animals and
the videos of the animals who are struggling even to walk because of the injuries that they have
faced. Additionally, the beginning of the commercial presents the viewers with a statistic of 3000
animals are tortured in America every day (ASPCA). This shows how often this type of abuse
occurs in America, and how critical it is to attempt to stop the mistreatment of the animals.
However, with the fiscal support of the viewers, the organization can put a stop to this inhumane
treatment of animals and thus create exceptional lives for them overall. Finally, the viewers who

making their donation seem tangible and less superfluous. These objects are meant to be rewards

Rembrandt Essay examples
Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn is generally considered one of the greatest painters in European
art history and the most important in Dutch history. Rembrandt was also a proficient printmaker
and made many drawings. His contributions to art came in a period that historians call the Dutch
Golden Age (roughly equivalent to the 17th century), in which Dutch culture, science, commerce,
world power and political influence reached their pinnacles.
In all, Rembrandt produced around 600 paintings, 300 etchings, and 2,000 drawings. He was a
prolific painter of self portraits, producing almost a hundred of them (including some 20 etchings)
throughout his long career. Together they give us a remarkably clear picture of the man, his looks,

By 1631, Rembrandt had established such a good reputation that he received several assignments
for portraits from Amsterdam. As a result, he moved to that city and into the house of an art
dealer, Hendrick van Uylenburgh. This move eventually led, in 1634, to the marriage of
Rembrandt and Hendrick s greatniece, Saskia van Uylenburg. This was obviously a marriage for
love. Although she came from a good family (her father had been burgomaster of Leeuwarden),
Saskia was an orphan and was probably not very wealthy. She lived with her sister in Frisia and did
not have many grand connections in Amsterdam. These events, however, are widely disputed.
In 1639, Rembrandt and Saskia moved to a prominent house in the Jodenbreestraat in the Jewish
quarter, which later became the Rembrandt House Museum. Although they were affluent the couple
had several setbacks in their personal life. Three of their children died shortly after birth. Only
their fourth child, a son, Titus, who was born in 1641, survived into adulthood. Saskia died in 1642
soon after Titus s birth, probably from tuberculosis.
After her death he began an affair with Titus s nurse, a widow called Geertje Dircx. This ended
in a lawsuit. Geertje claimed that Rembrandt had broken his promise to marry her, and demanded
that the council force him to marry her. The council did not go that far but Rembrandt was asked
to pay her a lot of money. He then cooperated with Geertje s family to have her locked up in a

Achilles Vs Odysseus
ODYSSEUS VS. ACHILLES: WHO IS THE BETTER MAN?
When considering the question Who is the better man? It is necessary to find the similarities that
exist between the two men who are being compared, (i.e. Odysseus and Achilles) of which there are
mainly three. The first one being that they are both Greek men, the second one being that they are
both heroes, and the third one being that they are both leaders. Odysseus is the better man because
he better fits the role of an Ancient Greek man, he better fits the role of a hero, and he better fits
the role of a leader.
In Ancient Greece, the concept of Arete (moral virtue) was highly valued, Arete was the central
ideal of all Greek culture. 1 Arete was considered one of the key elements that an Ancient Greek
man (especially a nobleman or a hero) should possess, it was the ability to ...make his hands keep
his head against enemies, monsters, and dangers of all kinds, and to come out victorious. 2 To use
a paraphrastic definition of moral virtue according to Aristotle in Book 2 of the Nicomachean
Ethics, moral virtue is the ability to inherently know that which is right from that which is wrong.
Odysseus showed that he possessed the quality of Arete throughout The Odyssey, the prime
examples of which being in his motivations for returning home. Firstly, the great love he bore for
his wife, Penelope, and his son, Telemachus, and secondly, the duty which he felt to his people as
their ruler. Both the idea of family and the great

The Rise In Conspiracy Theories
Conspiracy theories have a massive influence on our society through literature, film and music.
Such conjectures may be absurd to the commoner, but they serve an important psychological, and
sociological, purpose in their practice. Conspiracies often target the powerful from the position of
the powerless, reaching to explain what otherwise is unexplainable, or unsatisfactory when
explained. These are an important aspect of democratic society, even if some speculations can reach
into the extremes of absurdity. Often, these conspiracy theories express discontent with government
powers. The rise in conspiracy theories against the government, stemming from events such as the
Kennedy assassination, led to a decrease in trust in federal intentions (Issitt and Newton). This
increasing distrust led to a chain reaction of conspiracy theories as the approval rate of the
government dropped from 80% to 25% in the timespan of 40 years (Issitt and Newton). Questioning
of the intent of officials, such as the accusation of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether the theory was pre conceived to align with prior prejudices, or to further an agenda
thereof, they would meet at an end consisting of active discrimination. Yet, those same critics that
claim generalization on the part of theorists fall into hypocrisy. To claim that these proposals are
for the advancement of bigoted dogmas is in itself a generalization of the whole of conspiracy
theories. While it is true that people, such as Hitler, used preconceived ideas on race to create
conjectures for political gain, the majority of theories are benign in this aspect, and sometimes
beneficial. Therefore, while conspiracy theories posing immediate threat towards a specific group
should be looked into, the bulk of these conjectures should be left as they are, rather than being

Functions Of The Progressive Era
The progressive era in the United States of America was a big change in the social reforms of the
country, largely lasting between the 1890 s to the 1920 s. It marked a huge change in the way that
the country operated when it came to the social constraints of the government, businesses, and the
world of industrialization. And most importantly it was a movement that sparked a change in
America for the betterment of everybody, a way to get rid of all the rotten ideals in the country s
social machinations and replace it with opportunity for everybody. In this essay I m going to point
out the specifics of what it meant to be progressive and how it changed everything.
The ideas and functions of the progressive era were to mainly to weed out the corrupt forces in the
government through things like the industrial industry and immigration. In the movement of the
progressive era, the biggest targets were painted on the backs of corrupt political organizations
and their respective higher ups. The primary goal was to take these organizations down in order
further develop a more straightforward democracy in the government. Another big mission of the
progressive movement was to trust bust corporations that were largely considered to be dirty, in
order to bring balance and make things fair in the world of businesses and entrepreneurship. And as
a progressive you were also very likely to support the banishment of alcoholic beverages, as well as
supporting the women s suffrage movement. So the basic all around theme of the progressive era
was out with the old and in with the new, pinpointing the weak and outdated spots in certain areas
and upgrading them to better fit with the current times. Progressives wanted to modify things like
government, education, finance and find plausible theories to scientific, engineering, and medical
studies that could bring solutions to certain problems in that area.
Originally the progressive movement started at a much smaller level, with many separate
movements happening in smaller areas, like a town or a city. Eventually the movement would get
bigger and bigger, going from a state wide level and eventually reaching a national level as one big
movement amongst the people. The leaders of this

Journey Of A Woman From All India Women s Conference
Journey of a woman from All India Women s Conference to International Council of Women
The difference between a man and woman arises when they are socially labeled as male and
female ,thereby attaching characteristics of masculine and feminine to it.As Simone de Beauvoir
says, One is not born but rather becomes a woman. Women are always put at the lower level on
the table of social, political or economic hierarchy. So the fatherhood is a sociological fiction and
motherhood is just a biological fact. Some of the feminists have argued that the word woman itself
includes the word man which deprives the women to have their own identities exclusive of
men. Also Maya Angelou has quoted, How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our
heroes and she roes! Like all other social groups, women have also organized themselves within
groups equipped with their agenda and ideologies in order to upgrade their position in all aspects of
life.Though their have been many instances where individual groups could not bring about a
change and the strong structure of patriarchy crushed them in order to make it adjustable to the
prevalent arrangements. It is in the modern times that provided the space for fee play of women
protest aligning with other groups to alternate the arrangements. This flame of oppression turned
into a fire when different groups of women from different parts of the world protest against it.When
there was a whole gamut of pressure from different women groups, the

  • 3. Making An Outdoor Art Installation When I thought about making an outdoor art installation, images of towering sculptures appeared in my head. In the corner of one, I imagined a spider web. The web was truly intricate, delicate, and breathtaking. Yet I desperately pushed the image away. Unable to shake the image, I was terrified that the tiny artist who made that web would suddenly appear in my mind. When I realized how irrational it was to fear an imaginary spider, I knew I had to make an installation of a spider webto face my crippling arachnophobia. I reminded myself of a famous saying from Eleanor Roosevelt: You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face... you must do the thing which you think you cannot do. I wanted that confidence, and I needed to believe I had enough strength and courage to create this piece. As an artist, my innate need to create is based on a need to express myself. According to Drozt, visionary art refers to art made with an inner vision or an intense feeling that is expressed throughout the work (2008). Visionary art accurately captures the drive and feelings I experience when I feel conceptually inspired, although I do not consider myself an outsider to artmaking. My work is always personal and I strive to be genuine to that experience. Because of this experience, I have added a layer of intentionality in my selection of materials and contemplation of the art s environment to my method of working. When I ... France, Great Britain, and Italy wanted to make sure Germany would never be a military threat again so they wanted to avenge the war by making Germany take all the blame for starting the war. Germany was not even permitted to send delegates to the conference. Huge reparation payments were awarded the allies and Germanywas never able to make the payments which only weakened her poor economic situation, and it became worse with the onset of the Depression of the 1930s. All of Germany s colonies were taken from them and they were not permitted to have a military other than a national police force. Hitler would later use the treaty as the cause of all the problems faced by Germany and convince the people that he could restore national pride and world recognition of Germany as an equal nation. The treaty of Versailleshelped cause world war II by demanding that they pay billions in reparation, forcing them to sign the war guilt clause, taking vital land away from them, and most importantly greatly restricting Germanys military.... • 7. Our Secret by Susan Griffin Essay Susan Griffin s Our Secret is a study in psychology. It is a look into the human mind to see what makes people do the things they do and in particular what makes people commit acts of violence. She isolates the first half of the twentieth century and in particular the era of the Second World War as a basis for her study. The essay discusses a number of people but they all tie in to Heinrich Himmler. He is the extreme case, he who can be linked directly to every single death in the concentration camps. That is why he rose to power in the Nazi party, he did not question orders but rather thrived on them. Following Hitler with unwavering loyalty, he is known as der treur Heinrich, true Heinrich. He describes himself as an instrument of the Fuhrer s will (Griffin 421). Did the violence in Himmler stem from his adoration of his brother, the perfect physical specimen. Heinrich tried his whole life to be like his older brother, strong and masculine. So much so that while serving as Reichsfuhrer he devised a set of standards for the Aryan Race to live up to. One could argue that these standards were modeled after his brother. Himmler s belief in physical superiority led to the suppression and deaths of many who did not measure up which is ironic because Himmler himself was frail and did not meet any of his own standards. I didn t know the first thing about breeding a dog. However if I wanted my dog to have puppies then I needed to learn about it. I know that a dog comes in heat roughly every six months. I know it is during that time period the they would get bred. Some things I have heard from my family was that a bitch has to be bred at certain times. They will only stand and allow breeding a certain numbers of days. I have no knowledge of when that takes place. I know that a bitch s cycle can last for weeks. The only way I would know when my dog needs bred is to put her in with a male and see if she allows him to breed her. When you don t have a male dog that is hard to do. Picking a male for her is a hard task. When breeding Australian Shepherd you have to be cautious about which types are bred. I know that you should not breed a merle to a merle because it cause defects. I am not for sure why this happens so picking a dog needs to be done carefully. Now more than ever, science and religion are butting heads. What should public schools teach to their students? Alex Rainert reasons that both science and religion are engaged in the same project, to discover the origin of life (141). In short, one could better describe the debate as a crusade between evolutionists and creationists; both sides have their well founded arguments, but when one looks at the decisions of the courts, clearly only one side may win the battle when deciding biology curriculum in schools. Otherwise, teaching creationism encroaches upon separation of church and state. Certainly many Americans in favor of teaching both theories may do so for the sake of imparting critical thinking skills to our schoolchildren. Costley and Killins agree with this notion, emphasizing that true academics teaches schoolchildren alternate theories as well as analytical thinking (5). As a result, creationists weigh in heavily at schools, compelling them to introduce other scientific theories dealing with the origin of life (Raymo 152). In this regard, when it applies to all area of academics, many more people would agree. Teaching only one theory on any matter seems indicative of a totalitarian form of education. Therefore, teachers should want to introduce students to as many alternative theories as possible. However, the dissenting theories they present must have factual ground on which to stand on. Since the theory of creationism stands on shaky ground scientifically, it should have no place in science education classes. Interestingly, Alex Rainert, a man in favor of teaching both creationism and evolution, states that evolution is as much a theory as the theory of plate tectonics or Einstein s theory of relativity. • 15. The Origins Of Behavioral Modernity The origins of behavioral modernity has been the topic of debates for many experts in the anthropological field; however, there seems to be a consensus that behavioral modernity can be characterized by abstract thinking, planning, symbolic behavior (e.g. art and ornamentation), use of stone and blade technologies and many others. The use of abstract thought and symbolic representation is one of the defining characteristics of humans. Creating art is a shared trait among all humanpopulations, and the ubiquity of art translates the value that all human cultures and groups place on the creation of symbolic representation. Earliest archeological findings for hominid art seems to be during the Upper Paleolithic Age with the Homo sapiens about 40,000 years ago. Older possible examples of art could be the incised ochre in the Blombos Caves; however, archeologists and anthropologists are still trying to decipher the reasoning behind the motifs on the walls of the cave and whether to attribute the motifs to early humans. Art created in the Upper Paleolithic Age have been found in Aurignacian Europe and the Levant, a large area in the Eastern Mediterranean. The art dates to about 40,000 years ago, and on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia and certain areas of Africa, there is evidence suggesting that art may have earlier origins (Indonesian Cave Paintings As Old As Europe s Ancient Art). Although the formulaic way of writingassisted in my capability to critically recognize the difference between opinion and evidence, the patterns were not helpful in developing my organizational skills. My ability to form argumentative ideas from given prompts strengthened, while unity and coherence within paragraphs proved to be my downfall. It has come to my understanding that you requested my firm s services regarding proper accounting practices for the acquisition of long term debentures. Therefore, I write to you this memo to address some issues you might be having with your newly obtained debt and to explain how to properly amortize it. I have been informed that you already have an accounting expert that advised you to use the Straight Line method of amortization for the discount on the bond. My expertise lies on the Effective Interest method of amortization. 1.Determining Bond Price To determine the price of the bond, the face value of the bond must be brought to its present value. The rationale behind this comes from an investment principle that considers that the money given up in the present could yield a gain in the long term if used as an investment. To arrive to the present value, we use a market rate that represents the yield the average investor would require to spend money in a new venture (in this particular case, 11%). Therefore, even though the Bond s face value might be $1,000,000, your company is expected to get $924,623.74. The difference between this two numbers, $75,376.26, is considered a discount that you allow for offering a rate that is lower than the rate requested by the investors (in this case, 9%). 2.Amortization of Discount I took the liberty of creating an amortization schedule to help you visualize the immediate difference between straight line and effective interest methods ... Now the concern is if the current economic model growth is reasonable in a world with limited energy resources. This has lead to more research in other forms of resources of energy. Now we have other unconventional resources such as wind, solar, geothermal, water, and so on. Energy demand is set to double by 2050 (Beckman, 2013). Therefore, greenhouse gases could double by 2050 as well. Hence, renewable energyis vital. Table 2 lists some of these studies. The goal is to provide the storytellers with flexibility and choice to narrate the story in a way that is most comfortable to them. According to Riessman (1993), there are five steps to conducting and analyzing narratives: Attending. This deals with the notion of how a storyteller reflects, remembers, and recollects the primary experience . It is important to pay attention to how a storyteller makes sense of an experience, the context of the experience itself, and his/her selectivity of the experience. Telling. The performance of a personal narrative . A storyteller sequences and orders the events of the experience in a particular way. Meaning is constructed by the storyteller about his/her experience at this level. The narrative method allows for flexibility in how the story is communicated. While oral tradition is the oldest form, other expressions such as biography, story, novel, essay or even a drawing could communicate how people interpret a phenomenon. Transcribing. This step refers to choice of putting words into text/language, a fixation of action for interpretation. This step does not necessarily mean literal textual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With these changes that have happened comes drastic opinions on economic utility. Economic utility is the amount of satisfactory a customer is granted from a product or service. On one hand you have the customer that would rather stay home and watch a movie on Netflix. On the other hand you have a customer that would go to the theatre to watch the newest movies. These are the movies that people on netflix can t experience yet. In this project I am going to discuss the impact that Netflix has had on the movie and television industries. There are four different variables of economic utility that have evolved with the arrival of Netflix. These include product form, time, place, and product possession. First off, I m going to talk about the impact the movie industry had on economy before the arrival of Netflix. Before Netflix, movie theatres had different competitors. Some of these include sporting events, restaurants, and clubs. People would have to decide what they wanted to do during their free time. One of the economic utilities that was very different before Netflix was place. They had very strict rules that they were required to live by if they wanted to make it to Heaven. Because of this, many stories have been written about them, including 1952 s Crucible by Arthur Miller. This story is about the witch trials that were held in Salem, Massachusetts. This story is particularly interesting because it is based on true events, and for this reason, there are many parts to analyze. The Transformation Of Separate States Into One Empire Essay As our main focus is the transformation of disparate states into a single empire, we will discuss the key points in the rise and fall of each empire before examining which common points helped them consolidate their power and which mistakes resulted in their downfall. Both dynasties were relatively short lived, and a theory regarding the unification and maintenance of an empire is relevant to both. The Qin worked tirelessly to strengthen the state as a whole, by recruiting advisors, strategists, and diplomats from other territories and developing their military capabilities. Furthermore, they strengthened the power of their ruler with Legalist measures (which they applied ruthlessly in war as well), which resulted in a law abiding population. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Host factors, the virulence of bacteria, and most importantly the presence of an endotracheal tube determine the development of VAP. The tube is detrimental not only because it provides the conduit for bacteria, but also because it abolishes the cough reflex. Bacteria get access to the lungs via microaspiration and through the biofilm that is formed in the inner surface of the endotracheal tube or leakage of secretions around the cuff. Spread from an adjacent site of infection or via the blood represent rare causes of VAP. Pathogenic bacteria usually replace endogenous flora and colonize the nasopharynx, the oropharynx, the sinuses and the stomach subsequently collecting inside and around the endotracheal tube. Positive pressure ventilation also contributes to VAP development by thrusting bacteria into the airways. Antibiotic exposure, severity of underlying disease and previous surgery have been implicated as host factors [5,8]. Various strategies have been applied for the prevention of VAP, each with different levels of evidence. Preventive measures against VAP development can be divided into five distinct groups: ... Three Categories Of Crimes Crimes come in all different types and in all different variations and in different levels of how grotesque they are but all happen to fall under the same three categories. Crimes are classified by three different categories, Infractions, Misdemeanors, and Felonies but then crimes are broken down more within each of these categories and the sentences for these can range from a fine to the death penalty. Each state has its own set of laws for which they follow for all crimes committed and what the sentences or fines should be given for the crimes in question and if they cannot decide how it should be ruled over then they can look to past cases that had set precedent for those crimes and see the old ruling and determine from there. The images of the animals for whom the assistance came too late implies that if one more person had donated, that animal would have been saved. Therefore, the commercial implies that if they do not donate, the animal in need of their aid will die. Their plea for donations is supported by the images of the doleful animals and the videos of the animals who are struggling even to walk because of the injuries that they have faced. Additionally, the beginning of the commercial presents the viewers with a statistic of 3000 animals are tortured in America every day (ASPCA). As a result, he moved to that city and into the house of an art dealer, Hendrick van Uylenburgh. This move eventually led, in 1634, to the marriage of Rembrandt and Hendrick s greatniece, Saskia van Uylenburg. This was obviously a marriage for love. Although she came from a good family (her father had been burgomaster of Leeuwarden), Saskia was an orphan and was probably not very wealthy. She lived with her sister in Frisia and did not have many grand connections in Amsterdam. These events, however, are widely disputed. In 1639, Rembrandt and Saskia moved to a prominent house in the Jodenbreestraat in the Jewish quarter, which later became the Rembrandt House Museum. Although they were affluent the couple had several setbacks in their personal life. Three of their children died shortly after birth. Only their fourth child, a son, Titus, who was born in 1641, survived into adulthood. Saskia died in 1642 soon after Titus s birth, probably from tuberculosis. It is necessary to find the similarities that exist between the two men who are being compared, (i.e. Odysseus and Achilles) of which there are mainly three. The first one being that they are both Greek men, the second one being that they are both heroes, and the third one being that they are both leaders. Odysseus is the better man because he better fits the role of an Ancient Greek man, he better fits the role of a hero, and he better fits the role of a leader. In Ancient Greece, the concept of Arete (moral virtue) was highly valued, Arete was the central ideal of all Greek culture. 1 Arete was considered one of the key elements that an Ancient Greek man (especially a nobleman or a hero) should possess, it was the ability to ...make his hands keep his head against enemies, monsters, and dangers of all kinds, and to come out victorious. 2 To use a paraphrastic definition of moral virtue according to Aristotle in Book 2 of the Nicomachean Ethics, moral virtue is the ability to inherently know that which is right from that which is wrong. Odysseus showed that he possessed the quality of Arete throughout The Odyssey, the prime examples of which being in his motivations for returning home. These are an important aspect of democratic society, even if some speculations can reach into the extremes of absurdity. Often, these conspiracy theories express discontent with government powers. The rise in conspiracy theories against the government, stemming from events such as the Kennedy assassination, led to a decrease in trust in federal intentions (Issitt and Newton). It marked a huge change in the way that the country operated when it came to the social constraints of the government, businesses, and the world of industrialization. And most importantly it was a movement that sparked a change in America for the betterment of everybody, a way to get rid of all the rotten ideals in the country s social machinations and replace it with opportunity for everybody. In this essay I m going to point out the specifics of what it meant to be progressive and how it changed everything. The ideas and functions of the progressive era were to mainly to weed out the corrupt forces in the government through things like the industrial industry and immigration. In the movement of the progressive era, the biggest targets were painted on the backs of corrupt political organizations and their respective higher ups. The primary goal was to take these organizations down in order further develop a more straightforward democracy in the government. Another big mission of the progressive movement was to trust bust corporations that were largely considered to be dirty, in order to bring balance and make things fair in the world of businesses and entrepreneurship. And as a progressive you were also very likely to support the banishment of alcoholic beverages, as well as supporting the women s suffrage movement. So the basic all around theme of the progressive era was out with the old and in with the new, pinpointing the weak and outdated spots in certain areas and upgrading them to better fit with the current times. Progressives wanted to modify things like government, education, finance and find plausible theories to scientific, engineering, and medical studies that could bring solutions to certain problems in that area. Originally the progressive movement started at a much smaller level, with many separate movements happening in smaller areas, like a town or a city. Eventually the movement would get bigger and bigger, going from a state wide level and eventually reaching a national level as one big movement amongst the people. The leaders of this ...
