Monae s Metropolis Saga
Monae s Metropolis Saga uses the cyborg as a metaphor for the oppressed, using cyborg bodies
as a stand in for black bodies and consequently drawing connections between the state of
blackness and the state of being cyborg. Monae herself speaks of her decision to choose an
android because the android to [her] represents the other in our society. (Kot 1) This is made
specific to blackness when, in the Metropolis Saga, Cindi time travels to the 20th and 21st centuries
and is reborn as Janelle Monae, becoming black rebels throughout history; accordingly, the line
between cyborgontology and black ontology is blurred as she jumps between the two. Monae,
additionally, describes cyborgs as neon slaves, electric savages, making clear ties between... Show

If for Monae, black bodies are cyborg bodies, cyborg bodies have existed throughout history and
cannot be situated solely in the future. Consequently, Metropolis as a city centered around Cindi s
black cyborg body cannot be temporally alienated from history, and must reckon with it. More than
that, though, Metropolis itself is not just a vision of the future but of the past, a transhistorical
metaphor of oppression and liberation. This differs from traditional science fiction cyborg
representations because for Haraway and many others, the cyborg exists within a future world.
However, for Monae, the cyborg has always existed in the form of black bodies, and the science
fiction world serves only to illuminate this. Accordingly, the transhistoricality is the only way that
a cyborg can be raced and allows a raced cyborg to recognize and grapple with the dark history
that birthed it for Cindi, this means time traveling to literally participate in, change, and solve her
history. Perhaps this is best expressed by the name of Monae s upcoming album, presumably
containing the last two suites of the Metropolis Saga, Dirty Computer. The computer is the android;
however, the android retains its dirt, the dirt being the dark and dirty history of racializations and
blackness her cyborg refuses to be pristine and reject that history, instead

The Shootings at Columbine High School:
A Case Study Analysis
Introduction The Shootings at Columbine High School: The Law Enforcement Response case, in
Richard Stillman s Public Administration: Concepts and Cases, Ninth Edition, covers the
Columbine High School law enforcement response to the mass murders committed by Eric Harris

Oral messages are more likely to be miscommunicated and misinterpreted than written messages.
Stating female down is not an appropriate way to communicate, as the listener has no idea what
actually occurred in the incident. Stating that a female had been shot and is paralyzed would have
been more effective. The communication technology used is important and should be incorporated
as part of a public communication strategic plan. There were a number of communication issues,
and these issues related to the poor initial assessments of the incident. As previously mentioned, the
usage of differing communication technologies created issues. Additionally, the unfamiliarity of the
type of incident created misperceptions, as school shootings weren t common. The fire department
chief thought the paralyzed individual was a victim of a drive by shooting, while the Sheriff
Deputy thought the victim was in a car accident. Ray Rahne, the Littleton Fire Department
Battalion Chief, didn t know about the firefights on the other side of the school. If Rahne knew,
perhaps Harris and Klebold could have been stopped before more bloodshed occurred. Rahne called
for police assistance, but none came. Medical personnel did not have bulletproof vests, and they

Being A Physical Therapist Essay
When I was 12 years old, I broke my elbow while snowboarding. After surgery the doctor said that
I didn t need physical therapy, and that I could rehabilitate myself. In the 8th grade I searched the
internet about how to rehabilitate my elbow, and returned it back to full health. And I found that
just a simple curl with a light weight and doing circles with a light weight are the most effective
way to rehabilitate an elbow. A physical therapist (PT) is defined by The American Physical Therapy
Association (APTA) as the treatment of injury or deformity by physical methods such as massage,
heat treatment, and exercise rather than by drugs. Being a physical therapist is what I want for my
future career because they know how, when, and what they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

are many types of physical therapy specialties but some of the more common are in outpatient,
pediatric, outpatient neuro, inpatient, and sports medicine. All of these types of therapy utilize
some basic principles however, utilize very different techniques. All of them have the same overall
goal, but they differ by the age of their patients and they way they go about treating their patients.
An outpatient physical therapist handles patients with somebody that has an injured shoulder or
elbow or somebody with a long term disability. A pediatric physical therapist works with children
with injuries or who were born with disabilities, for example if a child has a brain injury they
would go see the pediatric physical therapist. A patient for an outpatient neuro physical therapist
would be somebody that recently suffered from a stroke, brain injury, or spinal cord injury. A
patient for an inpatient physical therapist would be somebody that just had surgery that was strong
enough to leave the hospital but not quite strong enough for everyday life. A sports medicine

The geographic focus of Fantastic Golf has been very successful in the Southern and eastern
portions of Sweden and our product line are golf balls
Introduction
The product that we have chosen to produce and sell is golf balls. We will produce a top of the
line golf ball that will travel further than the average ball. Our goal is to produce a top of the
line golf ball, which is created by cutting edge technology that will last longer and travel further
than the average golf ball. The name of our golf balls is 2 Long. Our balls will be sold per sleeve
(3 to a sleeve), per dozen and per case. The country that we have chosen to market our product in
is Sweden. Sweden was largely unknown as a golfing destination many years ago but, thanks to a
number of reasons, has turned the corner from its underachiever status to world beater. Annika
Sorenstam put Swedish and ladies golf on the map when she became the first woman in more
than 50 years to feature in a PGA Tour event against the men in the Bank of America Colonial.
But it doesn t stop there, add Ulrik Johansson and Jesper Parnevik from the men s game to Catrin
Nilsmark and Carin Koch from the ladies game, and you have a country that has produced more
than its fair share of talented golfers.
Golfing in Sweden is both a pleasure and an eye opener. The first Swedish golf club, Gothenburg,

Disadvantages Of Union City
Union City, Pennsylvania is where I have lived my entire life. It is a great, small, friendly town,
depending on who you ask. Over the span of my lifetime, I have heard comments that vary about
the residents overall satisfaction with Union City. To me, it is about neutral because the several
advantages and disadvantages are nearly equal in my eyes. However, depending on your home life,
social status, and personal liking, Union Citymay or may not be the town for you. Over the years, I
become more thankful for my hometown because of the low crime rate unlike many other cities.
Union City, previously known as Miles Mills ( History of Union City, PA ), was discovered by
David Watts and William Mills in the year 1785 ( History... ). At one time, Union City, was
considered The Chair Center of the World due to all the sawmills and chair factories within the
city ( History... ). But sadly, now the town is only referred to as Incest City or Union Shitty, which
is offensive to the citizens of the town. The sawmills and chair factories in the earlier centuries,
currently are not functioning or have burned down in recent years, including the Ethan Allen
building which burned down during my lifetime in 2010. The history of Union City may not be as
exciting compared to larger cities, but it means so much to the residents or ancestors of people
from here. The town of Union City is a very small, friendly, tight knit community. As a citizen, me

William Penn John Winthrop s Goals in Colonization Essay
During the early colonization of the East coast of North America, many groups of people of Europe
came to the New World such as the Puritans and Quakers. Both the Puritans, led by John Winthrop,
and the Quakers, led by William Penn, were escaping persecution from England but each they had
their own views and goals in religion, politics, and ethnic relations. Being on the native land of the
local Indians, both Penn and Winthrop had to face issues and negotiations with the Indians. Penn
and Winthrop had their own separate approaches to politics but they both sought a more just system
than the one in England. After being persecuted, both Penn and Winthrop wanted their people to be

Escaping from a corrupt government that England had oppressing them for many years, both
Winthrop and Penn wanted a government which was self governing and a government that was just
for people. These early types of government would later help the creation of the government that
would being the United States.
The biggest motivation in Penn and Winthrop was their views on religion and how it should be
carried out in the community. Penn was one the few and first to believe in religious toleration and
freedom to worship any religion without the fear of persecution. The Quaker communities would
welcome all forms of religion such as Baptism and Evangelism while the Puritans would be very
secluded. The Puritans thought any other religion would bring in vile thought and immoral ideals
that would affect their community. Puritans would discourage any other form of religion which
made them a very isolated, homogenous, group of people. Penn s views would also shape the future
government of the United States.
Penn and Winthrop led their people to the New World with the hopes of starting a new, safe, society
that escaped persecution. Their contact with the Indians and their differing views of religion would
help them shape the politics of their communities. They both came with the similar goals but they
would each carry it out in their own specific way. These early colonists would help influence the
founding of many other communities, bringing in many new ideals

Is Golf A Sport
To begin with, a lot of people these days argue about if golf is a sport or not. If you look up the
word sport in dictionaries golf meets that definition. Golf also burns off a lot of calories while
playing the sport. If golf wasn t a sport than why should other things be called a sport. Golf is part
of the sports category because it requires muscles and physical exertion, you compete against other
players, and it has everything that other sports have.
First of all, golf is a sport because it requires muscles use and physical exertion. When you take a

Introduction
Since its first application in the film Becky Sharp, colors have rapidly captured the attention and
welcome by audiences in all around the world (Semsel, 1987). Ever since then, colors have
played its role as a basic element of film artistic. By making full use of various colors, the film
will leave a deep impression on the visual feelings of audiences and bring a good sense of

A Rhetorical Analysis of “The Death of Honesty” by William...
In The Death of Honesty, William Damon raises the concern that current apathy towards increasing
dishonesty threatens democracy. In this essay taken from the online volume Endangered Virtues
published by the Hoover Institute in 2012, Damon initially concedes that there are situations where
lying could be considered acceptable. However, with that being acknowledged, he transitions to his
main premise that honesty is losing its importance in society and will lead to its downfall, and he
cites examples in politics, law, journalism, and business in contemporary society where dishonesty
is expected, and even, condoned. Damon finally directs his remarks pointedly at teachers and
current students who accept cheating in schools. To persuade... Show more content on

14, 16). Throughout his essay, Damon parallels these arguments of logic along with emotion to
gain a response from the audience. Damon uses descriptive words to carry the audience from
acceptance, to tolerance, and then, outrage in order to convince them of the urgency to espouse
to the virtue of honesty in a democratic society. Although he speaks of the need for compassion,
diplomacy and protection from unadulterated truth, he claims that no one is naive or surprised
their politicians are dishonest (par. 2, 3). Damon uses references to historical figures to invoke a
spiritual and patriotic response from the audience (par. 6). He refers to Gordon Hinkley s
descriptive passage as alarm sounding...a neglected virtue...and problematic status to extract a
response (par. 7). Damon presents a strong warning when he states that we are reaching a
dysfunctional tipping point when honesty becomes the loser s way of operating, and lying is
tolerated (par. 8 9). He also advances that it is most troubling that there is current lack of honesty
amongst young people due to the inconsistent implementation of standards within schools (par. 11).
He goes on to use words like sympathize, excusable, motivate, encourage, vacillate, half hearted to
address the response to cheating in schools (par. 15,16,18, 20). He pulls on the heartstrings of his
audience when warning of the implication of our current moral decline on children in their formative

The window was cold against my forehead. Sweat beads started to form in my armpits and tears
started to form in my eyes. I couldn t have this start right now. Sixth graders are supposed to set
the example to younger kids, and even though I look like more of a fourth grader, I couldn t have
a melt down on the first bus ride home of the school year.
My hand lightly knocked on the door. I guess I had just walked all the way here, to the neighbors

thought I saw her in the window, which I wish she was, because Maxi would tell me how to handle
this.
The large front door opened, and Mrs. Peterson, Abby s mother stood, smiling down at me.

Peter Stockman And A Villain
What is the difference between the hero in a story and the villain? The hero is supposed to do
the good and the villain is supposed to be against it. When it comes down to saving the day or
ruining it, there always has to be a strategic plan that tackles all the odds. If there isn t a realistic
plan to accomplish a goal then there might be risks and consequences in the process of trying to
achieve the objective. Although Peter Stockmann is not as charismatic a leader as his younger
brother Tom, Ibsen seems to support the mayor s view of how organization and political systems
must work to control the population and prevent chaos. He is much more effective and strategic in
dealing with the press and in conducting public meetings.

Stockman and his brother had some kind of rivalry. When Dr. Stockmann got feedback about his
investigation, he was eager to show off the news at the administration for not listening to him. He
thought the town was going to praise him for the discovery and think of him as a hero for saving the
town. He was not mindful of keeping quiet until he had all his fact right. Dr. Stockmann
affirmed, Of course I warned them. When they started the damn thing I told them not to build it
down there! But who am I, a mere scientist, to tell politicians where to build a health institute!
Well, now they re going to get it, both barrels! Dr. Stockmann couldn t wait to tell the people, so

there s some doubt in your mind about the water, you admit there may be ways to disinfect it, and
yet you went after your brother as though these doubts didn t exist (Act III). Ibsen reveals that
there might be other reasons for Mr. Stockmann to act this way. Ibsen reveals some kind of rivalry
of superiority between these two brothers. Tom did try to negotiate asking his brother to not say

A Thousand Acres Analysis
A gust of damp, hot air greeted my skin when I entered the room. The fan, in its futile effort to
cool the sweltering room, accomplished no purpose other than rustling the shrew pages of
Moroccan National News and causing the bed linen to shiver. I flung open to the first chapter of
my summer reading novel, A Thousand Acres. As I half heartedly scanned the pages, my gaze
drifted over to the servant girl working in the room. Beads of perspiration dipped unnoticed
down her temples and the scarf over her head clung wearily to her neck, only adding to the
feeling of being suffocated by the humid heat. The warmth did not seem to affect me as much as
it did her, but then, I lounged beneath a ceiling fan. She crouched low on the floor with a hand
made broom of pine needles bound together by a copper cord. Her expression appeared stoic and
her movement robotic. For an instance her eyes rose to meet mine, and I... Show more content on

How Energy Plays A Vital Role As A Catalyst For Economic...
Introduction Energy plays a vital role as a catalyst for economic growth and high standard of
living. It is a fundamental input for all sectors, fuelling transport and providing electricity to
industry, commerce, and agriculture. Yet access to energy remains an elusive goal for
approximately 1.5 billion people worldwide (International Energy Agency, 2009). Given energy
s importance in promoting economic growth, governments tend to assist the energy industry
through policies that support research and development, provide low interest loans, and deliver
subsidies to producers and or consumers. The Global Subsidies Initiative estimated that global
subsidies to fossil fuel producers were approximately $100 billion in 2009 (Global Subsidies
Initiative, 2009). Coady et al. (2010) estimated that consumer subsidies for petroleum products
amounted to $57 billion, globally, in 2003, $519 billion in 2008, and $136 billion in 2009.
Subsidies often reduce production costs, make energy affordable to consumers, and encourage
development of new supply sources. Policies involving subsidies often have intended goals to
address market failures or respond to social and distributional objectives. According to Komives et
al. (2007), government support in the form of a subsidy can be critical for ensuring access to
modern energy services, including electricity for the poorest, thereby enhancing societal welfare.
Although these support programs are used to improve the standard of living for various

Analysis Of Conflict In The Bullet In The Brain By Tobias...
Analysis of Conflict In the short story, The Bullet in the Brain, by Tobias Wolff, we meet a book
critic who ends up meeting his demise as a result of being sarcastic with a bank robber who is not
on the same educational level as Anders. The conflict of the story is that experiences throughout
Anders life has hardened him and made him jaded. Which makes Anders pessimistic and dark to
people around him.
One of the first examples in this short story by Wolff, conveying an example of how life has
hardened Anders and how he reacts to daily situations with a different perspective .In this quote,
Anders is sarcastically equating the lane closing to these terrible things as a result of the two
ladies complaining about one of the tellers closing her lane at the bank, Damned unfair, he said.
Tragic really. If they re not chopping off the wrong leg, or bombing your ancestral village, They
re closing their positions... Unforgiveable, Anders said. Heaven will take note. (1). In this excerpt
from the book, Anders is being satirical to these ladies, because of how he believes they are being
overdramatic about a small thing, that is a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. I
definitely have been on both sides of this encounter, in other places, that are pretty minor, yet I
overreacted and realized how stupid it was or thought the other person was being dramatic about a
small annoyance.
As a part of Anders going through life and reading many books, he has a higher

Ireland s Capital Of Culture
Cork, Ireland is one of the most beautiful and culturally rich places on Earth. In 2005 Cork was
selected as the European Capital of Culture. With Cork s landscape dotted with old English
castles and great Catholic cathedrals it is not hard to understand why Cork was 2005 s capital of
culture. There are many examples showing Ireland s rich cultural ties but a very good example
is beer. Ireland is quite renowned for its beer production and consumption. You can trace it back
no fewer than 5,000 years, back into the earliest days of Irish agriculture, when the magical trilogy
of fertile soil, soft rain and gentle, cool breezes made for a climate that could produce superb barley
( A History of Beer in Ireland ). Corkhappens to be headquarters of Murphy s Brewery. In 1906
Murphy s Brewery was the second largest brewery in Ireland and has remained a very large
brewery ever since (Wilson). Beer is a simple example of one of the many incredible things to
visit Cork for. Cork was originally founded by Saint Fin Barre in the 6th century (Riain). The city
itself is situated on the River Lee. The river splits making an island which is where the city center
is located; the river re converges at the eastern side of the city creating the Cork Harbour, one of the
world s largest natural harbors. Viking settlers, in about the 10th century, founded a trading post in
Cork. It is hypothesized that Cork was an important trading center in the Scandinavian trading
network (Moody). During

The Presentation of Authority and Inferiority in The...
The Presentation of Authority and Inferiority in The Tempest
Shakespeare has staged a play that explores the human hierarchy of the Elizabethan era. At the
time dominance of one person over another was part of a system, which kept the society going.
The social hierarchy consisted of the educated, kings, bishops, lords and noble men at the top of
the hierarchy, with the working class peasants at the bottom. Everyone had a fixed status in
society. However this is all physically displaced on the island, as there is no social structure and it
is uninhabited and tropical. Shakespeare sets his plays mainly in Italy; however in The Tempesthe

We know this from the way he addresses the noble men. The punctuation shows that the boatswain
is shouting. He is able to move from inferiority to authority because he has something that the
noblemen above him do not. The question asked by the boatswain is to make a point, as he knows
that they cannot do anything. He shows them as being ignorant and stupid; the question is quite
insulting, sarcastic and sharp. It was very unlikely that noblemen would talk in that manner. Even if
the noblemen do not agree or see themselves as being inferior to the boatswain, they need him to
save them all from dying even though this may all change after the storm. Antonio gained authority
from his brother who once had ultimate authority, and now does not but rules over an uninhabited
island. Caliban as a native authority but gave it away, he also transfers his master from Prospero to
Trinculo.
Shakespeare s choice of language helps shape who he feels to be superior and inferior. Throughout
the play we see how Prospero swears and shouts at Caliban he orders and threats and curses ,
Caliban does swear and curse but is usually stopped by Prospero, as we know he only uses this
language in front of Caliban. Prospero speech is in verse and Caliban in prose the image of

The Word Love In The New Testament And Old Testament
Love is taken in many directions in the New Testament and Old Testament. The way God and
Jesus Christ present this emotion throughout the bible, shows a better understanding of
unconditional love to others. Love is one of the characteristics of God and an important part of
His nature. Therefore, I will bring forth explanation of how well the word Love is used from
translation to translation. My research will be coming out of the New Testament and Old
Testament, even though there are many other books I could talk about for the word love. In the
New Testament, Almost everyone knows that God so loved the world (John 3:16) and God is love
(John 4:8), and when love appears nobody can express it better than Jesus. We mainly hear about
love in the beginning of the first Corinthians ( 1 CO 13) at wedding ceremonies. As new
translation were coming out over the years, the version NIV used love as sex acts in Genesis to
express the word rather than KJV and ESV used love as knowing the feeling and NASB used
love as strong relations. In the 1 corinthians, Paul created a message saying, the love of god, the
love of jesus christ, and the love that the christian expresses in response to God s saving action in
Jesus Christ (samuel E Balentine). As I was looking into the new testament, the chapter called First
John stood out to me because majority of the words are love or something describing love. First
John was written to distinguish the differences between

Analysis Of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is the fifth album released by American artist Kanye West.
The album was released in 2010 following the rapper s controversial VMA incident involving
Taylor Swift and Beyonce and in the midst of Kanye s struggling relationship (My Beautiful Dark
Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West). Kanye explores the unspoken sorrows of fame and love in
MBDTF. Kanye opens his fifth studio album with the song Dark Fantasy and a monologue from
fellow artist, Nicki Minaj. The hook of Dark Fantasy repeats Can we get much higher? So high
(Kanye West). West seems to believe that at this point in his career he has reached the peaks of
the hip hop and rap industry. This hook is followed by many other boastful lines such as an
announcement of his new Lamborghini and arrogant statements on his supermodel girlfriend
and designer clothes. Due to the pompous nature of Dark Fantasy, it established itself as one of
my least favorite songs on the album. However, there is one line in the song that I actually
enjoyed and found powerful, Sorry for the night demons that still visit me, The plan was to drink
until the pain over, But what s worse, the pain of the hangover? (Kanye West). Kanye West
admits that he himself has problems and he resorts to drinking to ease the pain. I found that
Kanye admitting one of his own faults was a great way to wrap up an arrogant song. Dark Fantasy
is followed by a deep song titled Gorgeous, addressing the topic of racial injustice in

Masked Identity In Watchman s Watchmen
The story of Watchmen brings into question what it means to be a hero. The comic creates a world
where masked vigilantes aren t necessarily the forces for good that American culture presumes
them to be. The heroes of Watchmen are morally questionable and often don t do what most would
consider right. Often, these vigilantes create their identities, at least partly, for reasons other than
just protecting others. This includes using their identities as a way to wrestle with their feelings on
sex and their own sexualities. Masked identity is used as a form of sexual expression in Watchmen.
It can be used for either expressing revulsion towards sex or as a way of fulfilling the needs of a
character s repressed sexuality. Rorschach is perhaps the most extreme example of a vigilante
who uses his masked identity to express revulsion towards sex. Rorschach finds sex in any way,

Thirty Meter Telescope Controversy
Research and observation in astronomy has discovered exciting details about our place in the
Universe. However, later discoveries have been made because of the innovation of telescope
designs which have astronomers focusing their ideas on more challenging questions and bigger
ideas. To continue this curiosity, project specialists are continuing to build the Thirty Meter

The Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) is being worked on to become the most advance and
powerful optical telescope on Earth by a team of scientists, engineers and specialists. After long
controversy, its planned location will be in Mauna Kea, Hawaii. The TMT is a reflecting

Hamlet is not Insane in Shakespeare s Halmet Essay
Alas he s mad (3:4:108) How far do you agree with the statement that Hamlet is mad?
A great controversial talking point of the play Hamlet is whether he was mad or in fact making
people think he was mad.
I disagree with Gertrude s statement that Hamlet is mad. I ask you what the definition of madness,
the relatively permanent disorder of the mind, a state of mind characterized by the inability to
distinguish right from wrong. Indeed Hamlet only acts mad in front of certain people such as his
mother, Polonius, Ophelia, Claudius, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern who he knows are spying on

(3: 176 180) Claudius says that Hamlets emotions are not from affection. What he does is not
insane, it has a higher reason. Hamlet knows something is going on and that he is going to find
it out although he does find this out in very unethical terms. Part of his way to hide his motives is
by acting mad so he can set about his plan undeterred. With reference to ?There?s something in his
soul.? In Hamlet people make many references to his soul, ?Thy devil take thy soul!? maybe
hinting that the problem with Hamlet is not insanity but his soul contains the problem. This could
possibly fit into the description of the black bile that the Elizabethans believed needed to be bled
out in order to make the person saner. The Elizabethans believed that some mentally disabled
people were possessed and that madness has a close relationship with god reflecting in the use of
Hamlets soul.
If Hamlet were truly mad then he would not delay so much throughout the play for a mad man is
unable to distinguish right from wrong. Does a mad man have a conscience? When Hamlet is
stood after the play waiting to kill Claudius, even though full of rage and hatred he sees Claudius
praying and that delays him killing him. This shows Hamlet having a conscience if his mind was
unstable surely his actions would have reflected differently. ?They are not near my conscience.?

Hennenberg, a Holocaust survivor. The artist Mollie Goldman is a young aspiring artist and a 10th
grade student from Fuchs Mizrachi School in Beachwood, Ohio. This aesthetic piece is an acrylic
painting on canvas. Goldman evokes a strong intellectual reaction from her audience through the
details and cues she uses in her painting to channel her message. First and foremost, the Holocaust
began in January 1933 in Germanywhen Hitler came into power. The book Holocaust: The Events
and Their Impact on Real People states that during that time 6 million Jews lost their lives, and
1.1 million of those who died were under the age of 18. The Jews lost their lives in various ways,
such as being forced into gas chambers, being tested in medical experiments and from their
horrendous living conditions. Officially the Holocaust ended on May 8, 1945. This painting by
Mollie Goldman was in dedication of a

Thomas Aquinas And Karl Marx Views On Women

These rights pertain to nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, color, religion

Unfortunately, on a global level equality can be a difficult concept to understand especially in
regards sex. This is due to diverse values. Sexism or genderdiscriminationis prejudice or

The philosophies of Karl Marx have changed political views of women as he implemented what is
known as Marxist feminism. Marxist feminism is a branch of feminism focused on investigating
and explaining the ways in which women are oppressed through systems of capitalism and
private property (Intro to Marxist Feminism). When analyzing the views of Karl Marx one may
apply the case of Ellen Pao v. Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers. This specific case takes
precedent in the legal system as it seizes to recognize the worth of females in male based
workplaces (Fulenwider, Melissa). In connection to the Catholic Church empowerment of women
refers to increasing their social, political, economic and spiritual strength, individually and
collectively, as well as to removing the obstacles that penalize women and prevent them from being
fully integrated into the various sectors of society (Promotion of Gender Equality and
Empowerment of Women). Concretely, it means addressing discriminatory practices that exclude
women from decision making processes, oftentimes caused or aggravated by discrimination based
on a woman s race, ethnicity, religion or social status. (Promotion of Gender Equality and

many that face society today. Wage and educational gaps between men and women

A License For Real Estate Agents Are Governed By The...
In the State of Wisconsin, exams, licensing, and continuing education for real estate agents are

licensing information pertains not only to the sale of houses, but also to anyone who wishes to

license for a private investigator. There are three basic real estatelicenses in Arizona, a broker s

American History Retells World War II
American history retells World War II (WWII) stories about heroes, and their contribution to the
success in ending the conflict between Japan and the United States (U.S.). The U.S. Military s
attempt to seize key islands in the South Pacific seem futile as Japanese Imperial Intelligence Teams
(JIIT) monitored U.S. communications systems. Messages intercepted by the JITT compromised
U.S. Military synchronization activities, putting their efforts and the lives of American Soldier s at

World War I (WWI) introduced the concept of securing lines of communication with a foreign
language not used by both sides during the war. Innovative combat Commanders utilized Native
Americans and their language within their ranks to send secure message. These Native
transmissions had flaws. The messages transmitted in the native language did not have a coded
format. Military terms for rank, weapons, and vehicles also did not exist in the Native vocabulary.
At the conclusion of WWI, the Germans identified the Native American tribes by their language
used during the war, exploiting and deterring any further similar attempts to secure messages. The

government; and while the topic continues to be debated, the debt surrounding our countries
educational system continues to grow. The Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings has brought
this issue forward by creating a National Commission to address Higher Educationon a
governmental level; the National Commission is directing the attention towards the countries costs
and accountability pertaining to higher education.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The public perception seems to be paying their attention towards the concern of long term debt,
and that most individuals are now seeing higher education as more of a risk rather than a
possible advantage towards their future. The United States higher education system is failing the
people of this country by its ability to segregate the poor from the rich, and generate debt which
shows no signs of digression. The United States needs to address the problem of higher education
if we wish to continue to compete on a global scale. Education should be less about the money and
more about knowledge; the noble thing for our government to do would be to provide the
necessary resources for all individuals so they may pursue their intelligence with equal opportunity;
the individuals of this country have the right to be given a fair chance to educate themselves,
regardless of their

Ignorance In Flowers For Algernon By Charlie Gordon
All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure. Mark Twain.
Sometimes ignorance is bliss. People on occasion, are happier being ignorant. In the novel Flowers
For Algernon, the main character Charlie Gordon, seems happier being dumb or ignorant. However,
people disagree with the fact that ignorancecan sometimes be better and stand with the opinion that
knowledgeis always beneficial. In reality, ignorance can sometimes be helpful to people.
In actuality, ignorance is quite advantageous. For example, little kids believe Santa Claus is real
and are ignorant to the fact that their parents are buying them presents, until their parents tell
them. Another example includes kids in other countries. Take for example kids in South Africa.
Kids in South Africa will most likely never have an Iphone 7, fancy expensive clothes, or have
even basic privileges, such as going to school or having a hot shower. Although these kids will
never experience experiences that kids in America have, they are still content with what they have,
because they are ignorant to the fact that superior conditions exist. An additional example is
Frederick Douglass, an American slave. He learned to read, write and spell and envied his fellow
slaves for their ignorance, after learning his tragic fate about being ... Show more content on

Ignorance can be effective in the long run. For example, a parent who is quite strict and does not
know their child goes out and disobeys them is considered ignorance being bliss. Another
example is someone who is deeply afraid of clowns in a horror movie not knowing a clown is
standing outside their window is also ignorance being blissful. A final example is a dog that
loves the park and is told that he is going to the park (but is ignorant to the fact he is going to the
vet), might be blissful. All of these examples are proof that not having knowledge, can be quite

The Issue Of Saudi Arabia Essay
Saudi Arabia earns around $360bn annually net exports; this is at $115 per barrel (The
Economist,2014) This will be half if the price remains at $60 per barrel. The budget is now at
the red line, and this is a catastrophe, since it will be decades to revive from such economic
mess. In the short run, there will be no big deal, the country may go deep in the pocket to
finance its budget, while in the medium term, it will hurt the economy, leading to less
expenditures. This may not go well with the outlook of the citizens. Long term effect may be
taxation, and less expenditure. The expenditure may be cut down as it was in mid 1980s, and
this will be a draconian austerity to face. The exorbitant political patronage as it has been in the
Sunni world will face rough times to prop up the likes of Egypt. The only item that still holds
them together in this medieval regime may be the social spending, but still there is terrorist
attacks and Yemen invasion, reported by Forbes (2015). The current reserves may go down by
close or more than $200bn in the year 2018, and this will cause capital flight. The current trap is
hard and dealing with Russia alone to cut on the output alone will bring more shale production in
the years to come.
The resilience of Saudi Arabia to cut back the output of oil led to more supply in the market,
leading to low prices. This can be seen as an agenda in long term basis (INSS, 2015). They are
prepared more than enough to deplete their reserves, while in the

Analysis Of Robert Wiene s Film Das Cabinet Des Dr. Calligari
Robert Wiene s 1920 film Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari) is a staple of
German Expressionist film. Following the experience of the World War I, the film reflects a distrust
in the figures of authority who have manipulated the common man. The figures of power are
represented by the hypnotist Dr. Caligari and the conditioned common man by his somnambulist
Cesare, who commits murders on Caligari s behalf. Through an engagement with this concept, The
Cabinet of Dr. Caligariis ultimately challenging the spectator s perception of the world. During Act
II there is a sequence where Caligari presents his somnambulist at a travelling fair. The sequence
shows Caligari on stage pulling back a curtain and revealing Cesare... Show more content on

The excess of Caligari s costume, consisting of a large dark jacket, top hat, cane and glasses,
directs attention to his character when juxtaposed against the lighter background. Similarly,
Caligari is also linked to the stage through his costume, which both feature unnatural stark angles
and dark shadows. The montage of the sequence, which cuts closer and closer to Caligari, peaks
with a quick cut of close up shot of Caligari s gaze towards Cesare and long close up of Cesare
himself. The dark vignette around Caligari s face on the close up limits the viewer s perspective
to Caligari alone, and his gaze across to Cesare seems to manipulate before the spectators within
the film and the viewer s watching it. It is as if Caligari is directing the camera, manipulating it
closer to his figure and then across to Cesare.
Caligari is not only manipulating the spectator s experience, but also Cesare s every move.
When Cesare has awakened, Caligari directs him to walk forwards. The shot has expanded back
to a wide shot showing Caligari and Cesare s full bodies to capture their performance. Cesare,
whose costume is all black, moves in a zombified manner, slow and uncertain steps. The duration
of this shot enhances the caution of Cesare who moves under the careful direction of Caligari.
Low angled shots are used to firmly place Caligari in a position of power, solidifying Wiene s use
of Caligari as a symbol for authority while also positioning the viewer through the spectator s

Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall Essay
Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall
In Ballad of Birmingham, Dudley Randall illustrates a conflict between a child who wishes to
march for civil rights and a mother who wishes only to protect her child. Much of this poem is
read as dialogue between a mother and a child, a style which gives it an intimate tone and provides
insight to the feelings of the characters. Throughout the poem the child is eager to go into
Birmingham and march for freedom with the people there. The mother, on the other hand, is very
adamant that the child should not go because it is dangerous. It is obvious that the child is
concerned about the events surrounding the march and wants to be part of the movement. The
child expresses these feelings in a way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
shows the mother?s inability to see her daughter?s desire to go march as anything more than a
childish fancy. The mother?s attitude toward the march is an unreasonable fear for her child?s
safety, a state of mind that alludes to her detachment from the events and opinions that fuel the
march. When compared to that of the child, the mother?s approach to the march is that of one who
is uninformed and unconcerned.
The mother?s detachment and idealism lead her to believe that the church is the safest place for her
child. She feels that upon entering the church, the child will be removed from the world around her
and the violence that engulfs it. This also points to the mother?s belief that remaining oblivious to
the source of the civil unrest will make them disappear. When she tells the child to go to the church,
she is in effect showing her feelings that attending church is the important thing to do and that the
problems of the world outside will be resolved without any further effort.
When the mother sends her child off to church, she brushes her hair, bathes her, and puts white
shoes and gloves on her. This effort put into creating an image of beauty and peace in her child
shows that the mother is trying to forget about the suffering of the people who are fighting for
freedom that she is doing nothing to aid. When she sees her child this way, she feels that she has

The Impact Of Tourism On Antarctica During The 2015-16 Season
IAATO indicate that more than 100 different nationalities were represented by tourists who visited
the Antarctica during the 2015 16 season.
Four IAATO operators conducted commercial deep field tourism activities during the 2015 16
season, employed experienced guides; over 80% of which have worked previously in Antarctica.
Staff and guides assist in the preparation of policies and guidelines, and ensure their implementation
in the field.
Ship based tourism is expected to again include the operation of small auxiliary boats, shore
landings, kayaking, mountain climbing, running events, SCUBA diving, snorkelling, skiing,
snowboarding, stand up paddle boarding, camping (including short overnight stays), helicopter
operations, use of Unmanned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Another threat comes from smaller expeditions that are becoming increasingly common by
individuals and small parties. Antarctica requires careful planning and a series of fail safe rescue
procedures if anyone gets into difficulty. These smaller expeditions sometimes fail to do this
adequately and resort to humanitarian requests for aid from shipping or nearby national bases when
they get into difficulty. In recent years for example a small helicopter (totally unsuitable for the
task) crashed into the sea off the Antarctica Peninsula requiring rescue.
There have so far been no major pollution incidents or losses of life in Antarctica as a result of
tourism, though there was a very close call in November 2007 with the holing and subsequent
sinking by an iceberg of the M/V Explorer in the Brans field Strait. Fortunately for the passengers
and crew of the Explorer the collision occurred in calm conditions, so everyone was able to get off
the ship safely and into lifeboats. (Ref: Crossley, Louise. Explore Antarctica. 1st ed. New York:
Cambridge University Press, 1995. Pg5.)

Tropical Rainforest Biome Essay
Tropical Rainforest Biome The biome Tropical rainforest is an ecosystem that combines an equal
amount of sun, rain, and very warm temperatures. With this mixture it creates a very humid, almost
steamy atmosphere. It stays this way all year long, temperatures don t even alternate between day
and night. With all the humidity and moisture the precipitation rate is much higher than other
places, The yearly rainfall ranges from 80 400 inches. With this being the climate of this biome, it
comes along with unique plants and animals. There are approximately 10 million species of
animals, plants, and insects home to the tropical rainforest. Some of the many plantspecies include,
epiphytes, bromeliads, orchids, rubber tree and many more. Most of the trees and plants are used
by man either for food or to make goods and products. Many of the plants are edible, some of those
plants include bananas, coconuts, and spices. Most of the spices we use for cooking come from the
tropical rainforest biome. Those spices include cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, and turmeric....

Since the climate is constant moisture and warmth is so high and constant the population of
animals and plants is higher than other biomes. Tropical rainforests also supply a constant
supply of precipitation and a variety of foods for the animals that live in this biome. Small
animals like frogs, lizards, birds, snakes, and monkeys are very common in the tropical rainforest.
Most animals that live in this biome live in tall trees and have not step foot on the ground in fear
of predators. Since there are so many different types of animals that compete for food, many
species have adapted to eating a certain type of food that no other animal

The Guardian Article, By Glenn Greenwald
In the Guardian article, Committee to Protect Journalists issues scathing report on Obama
administration, authored by Glenn Greenwald, he and others depict the Obama administration as
the most secretive and the worst ever on issues of national security and press freedom (Greenwald,
2013, np.). Yet, the United States government s aggressive efforts to control information, thwart
accountability reporting, maintain national security secrets, and the persecution of government
whistleblowers, is not new, nor is it unique to the Obama administration. The practice of attempting
to expand and concentrate power in the executive branch of government is historically consistent
with past administrations. In my opinion, the Obama administration ... Show more content on

The executive branch of the government may need to keep certain information secret, but to claim
certain information secret under the guise of national security or executive privilege because it may
reveal misconduct or embarrassing information about the government s actions is fundamentally
wrong and should be impermissible. Today, it seems like the aggrandizement of the power of the
executive branch of government trumps all else. This concentration of power in the executive
branch is not what the framers intended nor is it consistent with the Articles of the Constitution of
the United States. Over time, despite the fact that the Constitution provides the president with only
a few specific and enumerated powers, presidential authority has greatly expanded. Previous
government administrations have seized opportunities arising during crises such as the Civil War,
World War I and II, and the contemporary War on Terror to further expand the scope of executive
power. While this expansion of presidential power has been facilitated by Congressional action in
certain instances, the executive s authority expansion is to a greater extent the product of
presidential unilateral action based on broad interpretations of enumerated

  • 2. Monae s Metropolis Saga Monae s Metropolis Saga uses the cyborg as a metaphor for the oppressed, using cyborg bodies as a stand in for black bodies and consequently drawing connections between the state of blackness and the state of being cyborg. Monae herself speaks of her decision to choose an android because the android to [her] represents the other in our society. (Kot 1) This is made specific to blackness when, in the Metropolis Saga, Cindi time travels to the 20th and 21st centuries and is reborn as Janelle Monae, becoming black rebels throughout history; accordingly, the line between cyborgontology and black ontology is blurred as she jumps between the two. Monae, additionally, describes cyborgs as neon slaves, electric savages, making clear ties between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If for Monae, black bodies are cyborg bodies, cyborg bodies have existed throughout history and cannot be situated solely in the future. Consequently, Metropolis as a city centered around Cindi s black cyborg body cannot be temporally alienated from history, and must reckon with it. More than that, though, Metropolis itself is not just a vision of the future but of the past, a transhistorical metaphor of oppression and liberation. This differs from traditional science fiction cyborg representations because for Haraway and many others, the cyborg exists within a future world. However, for Monae, the cyborg has always existed in the form of black bodies, and the science fiction world serves only to illuminate this. Accordingly, the transhistoricality is the only way that a cyborg can be raced and allows a raced cyborg to recognize and grapple with the dark history that birthed it for Cindi, this means time traveling to literally participate in, change, and solve her history. Perhaps this is best expressed by the name of Monae s upcoming album, presumably containing the last two suites of the Metropolis Saga, Dirty Computer. The computer is the android; however, the android retains its dirt, the dirt being the dark and dirty history of racializations and blackness her cyborg refuses to be pristine and reject that history, instead ... The communication technology used is important and should be incorporated as part of a public communication strategic plan. • 21. How Energy Plays A Vital Role As A Catalyst For Economic... Introduction Energy plays a vital role as a catalyst for economic growth and high standard of living. It is a fundamental input for all sectors, fuelling transport and providing electricity to industry, commerce, and agriculture. Yet access to energy remains an elusive goal for approximately 1.5 billion people worldwide (International Energy Agency, 2009). Given energy s importance in promoting economic growth, governments tend to assist the energy industry through policies that support research and development, provide low interest loans, and deliver subsidies to producers and or consumers. The Global Subsidies Initiative estimated that global subsidies to fossil fuel producers were approximately $100 billion in 2009 (Global Subsidies Initiative, 2009). Coady et al. (2010) estimated that consumer subsidies for petroleum products amounted to $57 billion, globally, in 2003, $519 billion in 2008, and $136 billion in 2009. Subsidies often reduce production costs, make energy affordable to consumers, and encourage development of new supply sources. Policies involving subsidies often have intended goals to address market failures or respond to social and distributional objectives. According to Komives et al. (2007), government support in the form of a subsidy can be critical for ensuring access to modern energy services, including electricity for the poorest, thereby enhancing societal welfare. Analysis of Conflict In the short story, The Bullet in the Brain, by Tobias Wolff, we meet a book critic who ends up meeting his demise as a result of being sarcastic with a bank robber who is not on the same educational level as Anders. The conflict of the story is that experiences throughout Anders life has hardened him and made him jaded. Which makes Anders pessimistic and dark to people around him. One of the first examples in this short story by Wolff, conveying an example of how life has hardened Anders and how he reacts to daily situations with a different perspective .In this quote, Anders is sarcastically equating the lane closing to these terrible things as a result of the two ladies complaining about one of the tellers closing her lane at the bank, Damned unfair, he said. Tragic really. If they re not chopping off the wrong leg, or bombing your ancestral village, They re closing their positions... Unforgiveable, Anders said. Heaven will take note. (1). In this excerpt from the book, Anders is being satirical to these ladies, because of how he believes they are being overdramatic about a small thing, that is a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. I definitely have been on both sides of this encounter, in other places, that are pretty minor, yet I overreacted and realized how stupid it was or thought the other person was being dramatic about a small annoyance. • 23. Ireland s Capital Of Culture Cork, Ireland is one of the most beautiful and culturally rich places on Earth. In 2005 Cork was selected as the European Capital of Culture. With Cork s landscape dotted with old English castles and great Catholic cathedrals it is not hard to understand why Cork was 2005 s capital of culture. There are many examples showing Ireland s rich cultural ties but a very good example is beer. Ireland is quite renowned for its beer production and consumption. You can trace it back no fewer than 5,000 years, back into the earliest days of Irish agriculture, when the magical trilogy of fertile soil, soft rain and gentle, cool breezes made for a climate that could produce superb barley ( A History of Beer in Ireland ). Corkhappens to be headquarters of Murphy s Brewery. In 1906 Murphy s Brewery was the second largest brewery in Ireland and has remained a very large brewery ever since (Wilson). Beer is a simple example of one of the many incredible things to visit Cork for. Cork was originally founded by Saint Fin Barre in the 6th century (Riain). The city itself is situated on the River Lee. The river splits making an island which is where the city center is located; the river re converges at the eastern side of the city creating the Cork Harbour, one of the world s largest natural harbors. Viking settlers, in about the 10th century, founded a trading post in Cork. It is hypothesized that Cork was an important trading center in the Scandinavian trading network (Moody). During ... The Presentation of Authority and Inferiority in The Tempest Shakespeare has staged a play that explores the human hierarchy of the Elizabethan era. At the time dominance of one person over another was part of a system, which kept the society going. The social hierarchy consisted of the educated, kings, bishops, lords and noble men at the top of the hierarchy, with the working class peasants at the bottom. Everyone had a fixed status in society. He is able to move from inferiority to authority because he has something that the noblemen above him do not. The question asked by the boatswain is to make a point, as he knows that they cannot do anything. He shows them as being ignorant and stupid; the question is quite insulting, sarcastic and sharp. It was very unlikely that noblemen would talk in that manner. Even if the noblemen do not agree or see themselves as being inferior to the boatswain, they need him to save them all from dying even though this may all change after the storm. • 27. The Word Love In The New Testament And Old Testament Love is taken in many directions in the New Testament and Old Testament. The way God and Jesus Christ present this emotion throughout the bible, shows a better understanding of unconditional love to others. Love is one of the characteristics of God and an important part of His nature. Therefore, I will bring forth explanation of how well the word Love is used from translation to translation. My research will be coming out of the New Testament and Old Testament, even though there are many other books I could talk about for the word love. In the New Testament, Almost everyone knows that God so loved the world (John 3:16) and God is love (John 4:8), and when love appears nobody can express it better than Jesus. We mainly hear about love in the beginning of the first Corinthians ( 1 CO 13) at wedding ceremonies. As new translation were coming out over the years, the version NIV used love as sex acts in Genesis to express the word rather than KJV and ESV used love as knowing the feeling and NASB used love as strong relations. In the 1 corinthians, Paul created a message saying, the love of god, the love of jesus christ, and the love that the christian expresses in response to God s saving action in Jesus Christ (samuel E Balentine). As I was looking into the new testament, the chapter called First John stood out to me because majority of the words are love or something describing love. This hook is followed by many other boastful lines such as an announcement of his new Lamborghini and arrogant statements on his supermodel girlfriend and designer clothes. Due to the pompous nature of Dark Fantasy, it established itself as one of my least favorite songs on the album. However, there is one line in the song that I actually enjoyed and found powerful, Sorry for the night demons that still visit me, The plan was to drink until the pain over, But what s worse, the pain of the hangover? The comic creates a world where masked vigilantes aren t necessarily the forces for good that American culture presumes them to be. Often, these vigilantes create their identities, at least partly, for reasons other than just protecting others. This includes using their identities as a way to wrestle with their feelings on sex and their own sexualities. Masked identity is used as a form of sexual expression in Watchmen. It can be used for either expressing revulsion towards sex or as a way of fulfilling the needs of a character s repressed sexuality. I ask you what the definition of madness, the relatively permanent disorder of the mind, a state of mind characterized by the inability to distinguish right from wrong. Indeed Hamlet only acts mad in front of certain people such as his mother, Polonius, Ophelia, Claudius, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern who he knows are spying on him. Part of his way to hide his motives is by acting mad so he can set about his plan undeterred. With reference to ?There?s something in his soul.? However, people disagree with the fact that ignorancecan sometimes be better and stand with the opinion that knowledgeis always beneficial. In reality, ignorance can sometimes be helpful to people. In actuality, ignorance is quite advantageous. For example, little kids believe Santa Claus is real and are ignorant to the fact that their parents are buying them presents, until their parents tell them. Another example includes kids in other countries. Take for example kids in South Africa. Kids in South Africa will most likely never have an Iphone 7, fancy expensive clothes, or have even basic privileges, such as going to school or having a hot shower. In the short run, there will be no big deal, the country may go deep in the pocket to finance its budget, while in the medium term, it will hurt the economy, leading to less expenditures. This may not go well with the outlook of the citizens. Long term effect may be taxation, and less expenditure. The expenditure may be cut down as it was in mid 1980s, and this will be a draconian austerity to face. The exorbitant political patronage as it has been in the Sunni world will face rough times to prop up the likes of Egypt. The figures of power are represented by the hypnotist Dr. Caligari and the conditioned common man by his somnambulist Cesare, who commits murders on Caligari s behalf. Through an engagement with this concept, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligariis ultimately challenging the spectator s perception of the world. During Act II there is a sequence where Caligari presents his somnambulist at a travelling fair. The sequence shows Caligari on stage pulling back a curtain and revealing Cesare... The excess of Caligari s costume, consisting of a large dark jacket, top hat, cane and glasses, directs attention to his character when juxtaposed against the lighter background. Similarly, Caligari is also linked to the stage through his costume, which both feature unnatural stark angles and dark shadows. The montage of the sequence, which cuts closer and closer to Caligari, peaks with a quick cut of close up shot of Caligari s gaze towards Cesare and long close up of Cesare himself. The dark vignette around Caligari s face on the close up limits the viewer s perspective to Caligari alone, and his gaze across to Cesare seems to manipulate before the spectators within the film and the viewer s watching it. It is as if Caligari is directing the camera, manipulating it closer to his figure and then across to Cesare. Caligari is not only manipulating the spectator s experience, but also Cesare s every move. When Cesare has awakened, Caligari directs him to walk forwards. The shot has expanded back to a wide shot showing Caligari and Cesare s full bodies to capture their performance. Cesare, whose costume is all black, moves in a zombified manner, slow and uncertain steps. The duration of this shot enhances the caution of Cesare who moves under the careful direction of Caligari. Low angled shots are used to firmly place Caligari in a position of power, solidifying Wiene s use of Caligari as a symbol for authority while also positioning the viewer through the spectator s ... • 44. Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall Essay Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall In Ballad of Birmingham, Dudley Randall illustrates a conflict between a child who wishes to march for civil rights and a mother who wishes only to protect her child. Much of this poem is read as dialogue between a mother and a child, a style which gives it an intimate tone and provides insight to the feelings of the characters. Throughout the poem the child is eager to go into Birmingham and march for freedom with the people there. The mother, on the other hand, is very adamant that the child should not go because it is dangerous. It is obvious that the child is concerned about the events surrounding the march and wants to be part of the movement. The child expresses these feelings in a way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... shows the mother?s inability to see her daughter?s desire to go march as anything more than a childish fancy. The mother?s attitude toward the march is an unreasonable fear for her child?s safety, a state of mind that alludes to her detachment from the events and opinions that fuel the march. When compared to that of the child, the mother?s approach to the march is that of one who is uninformed and unconcerned. The mother?s detachment and idealism lead her to believe that the church is the safest place for her child. She feels that upon entering the church, the child will be removed from the world around her and the violence that engulfs it. This also points to the mother?s belief that remaining oblivious to the source of the civil unrest will make them disappear. When she tells the child to go to the church, she is in effect showing her feelings that attending church is the important thing to do and that the problems of the world outside will be resolved without any further effort. When the mother sends her child off to church, she brushes her hair, bathes her, and puts white shoes and gloves on her. This effort put into creating an image of beauty and peace in her child shows that the mother is trying to forget about the suffering of the people who are fighting for freedom that she is doing nothing to aid. When she sees her child this way, she feels that she has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Impact Of Tourism On Antarctica During The 2015-16 Season IAATO indicate that more than 100 different nationalities were represented by tourists who visited the Antarctica during the 2015 16 season. Four IAATO operators conducted commercial deep field tourism activities during the 2015 16 season, employed experienced guides; over 80% of which have worked previously in Antarctica. Staff and guides assist in the preparation of policies and guidelines, and ensure their implementation in the field. Ship based tourism is expected to again include the operation of small auxiliary boats, shore landings, kayaking, mountain climbing, running events, SCUBA diving, snorkelling, skiing, snowboarding, stand up paddle boarding, camping (including short overnight stays), helicopter operations, use of Unmanned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... L. Crossley. 1995. Cambridge University Press) Another threat comes from smaller expeditions that are becoming increasingly common by individuals and small parties. Antarctica requires careful planning and a series of fail safe rescue procedures if anyone gets into difficulty. These smaller expeditions sometimes fail to do this adequately and resort to humanitarian requests for aid from shipping or nearby national bases when they get into difficulty. In recent years for example a small helicopter (totally unsuitable for the task) crashed into the sea off the Antarctica Peninsula requiring rescue. There have so far been no major pollution incidents or losses of life in Antarctica as a result of tourism, though there was a very close call in November 2007 with the holing and subsequent sinking by an iceberg of the M/V Explorer in the Brans field Strait. Fortunately for the passengers and crew of the Explorer the collision occurred in calm conditions, so everyone was able to get off the ship safely and into lifeboats. (Ref: Crossley, Louise. • 47. The Guardian Article, By Glenn Greenwald In the Guardian article, Committee to Protect Journalists issues scathing report on Obama administration, authored by Glenn Greenwald, he and others depict the Obama administration as the most secretive and the worst ever on issues of national security and press freedom (Greenwald, 2013, np.). Yet, the United States government s aggressive efforts to control information, thwart accountability reporting, maintain national security secrets, and the persecution of government whistleblowers, is not new, nor is it unique to the Obama administration. The practice of attempting to expand and concentrate power in the executive branch of government is historically consistent with past administrations. In my opinion, the Obama administration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The executive branch of the government may need to keep certain information secret, but to claim certain information secret under the guise of national security or executive privilege because it may reveal misconduct or embarrassing information about the government s actions is fundamentally wrong and should be impermissible. Today, it seems like the aggrandizement of the power of the executive branch of government trumps all else. This concentration of power in the executive branch is not what the framers intended nor is it consistent with the Articles of the Constitution of the United States. Over time, despite the fact that the Constitution provides the president with only a few specific and enumerated powers, presidential authority has greatly expanded. Previous government administrations have seized opportunities arising during crises such as the Civil War, World War I and II, and the contemporary War on Terror to further expand the scope of executive power. While this expansion of presidential power has been facilitated by Congressional action in certain instances, the executive s authority expansion is to a greater extent the product of presidential unilateral action based on broad interpretations of enumerated ...
