straightforward question of what we should have for dinner. In the first chapter,
titled The Plant , tells a story from the perspective of Pollan himself as an everyday

distractors (SOD) and they can have effects on attention and reaction times.
Attentional capture occurs when a distractor stimulus appears in a field of vision and

Book Review Of The Notebook By Nicholas Sparks
I read The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, a 250 page novel published on October 1,
1996. This book can be classified as realistic fiction, but is considered to be a
romance novel due to the heart pulling plot line of two star crossed lovers. My
attention was caught quickly when I saw this book, because I had watched the
movie with my girlfriend which motivated me to read it. It took me about three
days to read behind Mrs. Kosters desk, each day during the same week; it was a quick
and easy read. This work was completely fiction; however, Sparks was inspired by
his wife s beloved grandparents. They had spent over sixty years together, with their
story being shared with Sparks and his wife, inspiration from their lovemade its way
into the book. Noah comes back, after fighting in World War ll, to his home in New
Bern, Carolina. Where he spends his days building a house to distract himself from
remencising on a girl he fell in love with over a summer shared together. Allie, who
is about to get married, stumbles upon a newspaper with Noah on it; curiousity
gets the best of her and she decides to visit him. Both have been separated for
fourteen years due to social class, with Allie coming from a wealthy family, and
Noah who worked at a lumberyard. Reuniting brings out a tidal wave of emotions
and memories that have been long locked away from both of them, with Noah

1.1 INTRODUCTION The term pastoral comes from the Latin word, meaning
shepherd and basically pastoral portrays rural life. Shepherds and nymphs the minor
divinities of nature in classical mythology that represent beautiful maidens, dwelling
in the mountains, forests, trees, and waters in idealized country life.
1.2 A PASTORALLIFESTYLE
A pastoral lifestyle (see pastoralism) shows the relation between man and a nature,
it is the lifestyle in which shepherds herding livestock around open areas of land in
changing seasons. It is the name of the genre of literature in which art and music
that depicts such life in an idealized manner, classically for urban audiences. A
pastoral as a genre, also known as bucolic, it is from the Greek, meaning a
cowherd.[1][2]. Traditionally, pastoral refers to the representation of the lives of
herdsmen in very romanticized and exaggerated way.
1.3 CRITICAL BOOK PASTORAL BY TERRY GIFFORD
Terry Gifford, a prominent literary theorist, defines pastoral in three ways in his
critical book Pastoral.
I.The first way emphasizes the historical literary perspective of the pastoral in which

The Importance Of Organ Donation
A girl named Ali was born with a liver defect called Progressive Familial
Intrahepatic Cholestasis. It wasn t until she was nine that she was actually
diagnosed and the prognosis was clear Ali s disease would get progressively worse
and she would die without a liver transplant. After a six month wait and one false
alarm, they got the call. A thirteen year old girl had died and the liver was a match
for Ali. The transplant was a success and the results almost instantaneously. When I
woke I remembered immediately noticing that my skin and eyes were no longer
yellow, and I didn t itch at all. It was amazing, says Ali. Today, Ali is a healthy
twenty year old junior college student double majoring in art and geography (How
Ali Received A New Liver). Ali s story was only 1 in 116,000 other patient
transplant stories. Ali had to wait six months to receive her much needed organ
because there is an organ shortage occurring and the only way to stop the shortage
is to increase the number of organ donors, living or deceased. A few ways to
increase the amount of organ donors is to financially compensate the organ donor
or the organ donor s family for funerals, offer Medicare coverage, and reimburse
the donor of cost during the donation process. Just one donor can save the lives of
eight people and change the lives of more than fifty people. The need for organ
transplants continues to exceed the supply of organs which is resulting in the
current organ shortage. An estimated 170,000 patients in the U.S. are on waiting
list for transplants. With such a large waiting list, a large number of patients have
set out to recruit their own donors; whether it is through a website or an
underground market. The U.S. banned organ sales two decades ago resulting in
the underground sale of organs. People have discovered the value of their own
organs and have been taking advantage of it. For example, there has been a case
where a South Korean man used his kidney as collateral for a loan. With such a
large need for organs; the government needs to think of a method to attract more
organ donors. One of the major suggestion is to financially compensate organ donors

When asked about abortion most people try not to even think about the subject.
Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or
closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. (Merrian Webster) Since
abortion was legalized in 1973 there have been over 35 million abortions performed.
Approximately 1 in every 6 women has had an abortion, giving a total of about 4,000

every woman make their own choice about abortion and not have official government

By 1965 all states banned abortion, with the exception if it was in order to save the
mother s life, if the fetus was deformed, or in cases of rape and or incest. In the
early 1970s two young lawyers, by the name of Coffee and Weddington in Texas
volunteered to help a woman wanted an abortion after she allegedly stated she had
been raped. However, the case failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove she was
actually raped and attempted to obtain an illegal abortion. The case that is better

My Girl Talk Log By Brumberg
One of the ideas listed in my Girl Talk Log relates to societal changes from the
Victorian Era to the 20th century. In the book, Brumberg talks about the change
from a corset to a micro bikini (Brumberg, xvii). In order to wear corsets girls were
able to have several different body types and still be able to achieve the hourglass
figure that was ideal in the time. However, in the twentieth century the micro bikini
forces girls to have the figure of a body type that less than 10% are able to actually

list above has, at one point, named Alfred Hitchcock as an influence for their works
(IMDb). Hitchcock has been known as, the master of suspense, throughout his
career and it shows, not only in the movies that he directed personally, but in the
movies of the other directors and producers who aspire to compare to him.
Hitchcock s auteur, or reoccurring themes within movies that can be traced back to a
director s life and personality to identify parts of him within his own movies include
themes such as: an icy blonde female character, personal disabilities and phobias of
the main (male) lead, the use of sound studios rather than a natural setting, and a
theme of mommy issues associated with the main character.
To further look into the auteur of Alfred Hitchcockwe must focus on a couple of
specific movies and we must know a little bit more about Hitchcock s life. The
movies, Vertigo and Rear Window are both the works of Hitchcock, and can both be
evaluated in order to find some reoccurring themes associated with this master of
suspense. Often, the first theme noticed about these movies is the dark plot and, you
guessed it, suspense. In Vertigo the movie begins with a literal cliffhanger, the main
character is left dangling off
