the vast amount of lessons learned through the five goals and the effectiveness of actual hands on
application: the practice of communication, pastoral spiritual care, the practice of leadership,
engaging diversity, and handling conflict. There were target events in each goal setting subject. For
example, in communication, my target events were in small groups, classes, writings of creative

women, youth both boys and girls, and children. The area of pastoral spiritual care involved Bible
studies, home visits, hospital and nursing homes visits, grieving family visits, and prison ministry
visits with the Children of Inmates Program. The practice of leadership comprises of attending
events, training, and assisting in various ministries in need. Engaging diversity involved observing
other ministry leaders engaging in a large church congregation, speaking at women s breakfast or
functions, speaking at funeral services, and assisting in the planning of funeral with family
members. Handling conflict dealt with counseling of premarital sessions, marriage counseling
sessions, counseling child abuse sessions, counseling drug addiction session, counseling depression

The Importance Of Physical Literacy
A person s level of physical activity is directly related to their physical literacy making it an
extremely important topic. Canada s Active for Life Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD)
Model studies a variety of factors regarding the physical activity levels of Canadians. The topics
that are studied include, the relationship between physical literacyand exercisebehavior and
adherence, developmental age, sensitive periods, mental, cognitive, and emotional development,
competition, system alignment and integration, and continuous improvement. There are many
other resources for finding information regarding people s physical activity levels, including
Statistics Canada; this source has an array of figures, from the annual census, regarding the
populations of specific areas. For example, the Moncton, New Brunswick, 2016 census can be
used to determine exercise behavior and adherence among local residents by using the figures
presented along with other statistics from sources such as Weinberg and Gould s book Foundations
of Sport and Exercise Psychology. Physical literacy is defined as, the motivation, confidence,
physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for
engagement in physical activities for life. The International Physical Literacy Association, May
2014 ( Physical Literacy , 2017). Another understanding of physical literacy is, it is the cornerstone
of both participation and excellence in physical activity and sport.

Comparing Louise of The Story of an Hour and Nora of A Doll s House
In Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour, the main character is a woman who has been controlled
and conformed to the norms of society. Louise Mallard has apparently given her entire life to
assuring her husband s happiness while forfeiting her own. This truth is also apparent in Henrik
Ibsen s A Doll s House. In this story, Nora Helmer has also given her life to a man who has very
little concern for her feelings or beliefs. Both of these characters live very lonely lives, and both
have a desire to find out who they really are and also what they are capable of becoming.
Although the characters of Nora and Louise are very much alike in many ways, their personalities ...

She seems to feel resentment toward the fact that he has not loved and cherished her throughout
the course of their marriage. Louise s thoughts continue to build as she thinks to herself There
would be no powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence with which men and women
believe they have a right to impose a private will upon a fellow creature (23). This statement
shows how he has held her back from expressing herself as a person and has forced his strong
will upon her with which to obey. Nora has also been forced to conform to her role in society.
She has conformed to playing the role of a caring housewife and mother. Her husband Torvald
keeps a tight reign on her and makes sure that she behaves only as he pleases. In one instance, he
detects that Nora has not been truthful with him. He remarks, My little song bird must never do
that again. A song bird must have a clean beak to chirp with?no false notes (761)! This remark
allows the audience to understand how much control he has over Nora. Throughout this story,
Mr. Helmer maintains an arrogant attitude and expects Nora to always agree with him. In one
instance, Nora remarks to him, But don t you think it is nice of me too, to do as you wish?
Torvald responds, Nice??because you do as your husband wishes? Well, well, you little rogue, I
am sure you did not mean it in that way (761). Nora s feelings are constantly repressed and

Most humans resist the idea of stepping directly into the things that frighten them. Of course, there
are some things that warrant fear and deserve avoidance action (crime, fire, hurricanes, etc). But
those are things we don t tend to encounter regularly in our daily lives (hopefully).
Fear, none the less, is often present and yet not always warranted. If you are reaching beyond your
comfort zone, you ll likely feel afraid. That does NOT mean, you shouldn t reach. You should
always reach.
Here are some specific strategies you can use to take that fear and turn it into freedom, financial
freedom or personal freedom.
1. Do the scariest thing on your to do list the first thing in the morning
This will free you up immediately. Even if you don t get the result you wanted, just the fact that
you confronted your fear and took action will build your confidence and allow you to tackle other
things on your list that will now feel easy and breezy.
2. Ask your inner guidance what the fear is trying

Ronda Rousey Research Paper
Women s bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey, will defend her belt against Holly Holm in
the main event of UFC 195. Rousey made the announcement during her appearance on Good
Morning America on Friday. She also noted the date for the fight as January 2nd. In addition, it
has been confirmed that the showdown is going to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM
Grand Garden Center. The fight is also the only one on the UFC 195 card thus far. The
announcement shocked many in the MMA community who thought the third installment of Ronda
Rousey v. Meisha Tate was a foregone conclusion. Rousey did say however that she considers
Holm her best competition yet. Beating Bethe Corriea improved Rousey s record as a professional
record to 12 0 and 6 0, in her career with the UFC. Since coming into the UFC, Ronda has destroyed
everyone in her path. Finishing many competitors in the first minute, and... Show more content on

Rousey is, however, taking a a different kind of opponent in Holm and it will be interesting to
see how she tackles this new challenge. Ronda will no doubt be the favorite, but this fight has a
different dynamic. Meanwhile, Holly Holm, a relative newcomer to the sport, began taking
MMA fights in 2011 and wasn t even in the UFC until 2014. Holm posted an impressive boxing
career before moving her focus to MMA, with a record of 33 2 3 in the ring. She has an
undefeated 9 0 record in MMA and is just 2 0 in the UFC. Holm will hope to use her punches
from her experience in boxing to keep Rousey at bay long enough for her endurance to make an
impact. At one point, Holm was seen as the potential biggest threat to Ronda Rousey, because of
her excellent striking abilities. However, after failing to live up to that potential in her first two
fights in the UFC, expectations have seen a steady

Essay on Communicating Leadership
Leadership, Traditional versus Transformational
What should a leader look like? Important leaders, such as presidents and prime ministers, work
hard communicate an impression of confidence and power. A leader, they assume, should look
like a leader, and many of them hire an image specialist to learn how. Wherever they go, press
agents, bodyguards, loyal assistants, and throngs of eager admirers follow in their wake. In the
Bible, Matthew depicts Jesus as a true leader, a king in fact, however one who broke stereotypes.
Jesus had undeniable power and he was not concerned about a powerful image. The Word of
Matthew 13:54 55 tells us, Where did this man get his wisdom and these miraculous powers? They

There are many definitions and interpretations of traditional or transformational communicating
leadership. The text book definition for traditional viewpoint of management offers this, The oldest
and perhaps most widely accepted view of management is the traditional viewpoint. It is split
into three main branches: bureaucratic management, scientific management, and administrative
management (Hellriegel, 2005). Studies have been made on leadership communication and
management styles since the Civil War. With many decades of research it has evolved over time
to specific categories. Traditional is still viewed today because of its long term use. God s
relationship with Moses was a traditional leadership. Moses had his doubts about his ability to
lead. The Word in Exodus 3:11 13, it is discussed Moses resisted God, bringing up his
unworthiness and lack of authority, his fear of the people s distrust, his speech difficulties, and
sheer cowardice. Moses developed under God s direction as one of history s most decisive and
powerful leaders (The Student Bible, 1992).
Even so, he thrived under a rank and file style of leadership where only Moses had direct
connection with the ultimate leader. Additionally, the people had to follow a set of policies, known
as the Ten Commandments. Only through his association through God did the people

British Romantic Poetry As A Revolutionary Part Of England...
British romantic poetry was remarkable for a myriad of reasons. Not only did it vouch for a focus
on nature in literature, but also showed an increased interest in both the emotion of the average
person, and a heightened esteem for imagination as well as the wonder and amazement that
accompanied children. Of course, it showed a darker side of the world as well, with some of the
more distinguished writers focusing on the poor and how they lived. Stylistically, there was also a
clear influence from Greek culture, with many poems taking inspiration from Greece s literature
and culture, along with other supernatural aspects that were added in.
In a place where many types of literature found their start, what made British Romantic poetry a
revolutionary part of England s culture? The answer is simple. Because the genre was so
unique, it attracted many different kinds of people, some of whom would never have been
accepted in any other literary genre. For example, Lord Byron was, by all accounts, an eccentric.
His unique mannerisms and his reportedly very flamboyant attitude earned his hordes of fans who
both devours his work and kept track of his life. Of course, there were more straight laced people as
well, such as John Keats, who started studying to become a doctor and wound up growing into one
of the most loved British poets after his death. Percy Bysshe Shelley, who was the father of the
author of Frankenstein, Mary Shelly, and also a very controversial figure in English

Reflection Of Master And Commander
Master and Commander, produced in 2003 is about the Napoleonic Wars. Although not based on a
true story, Master and Commander shows a historically accurate depiction of life on a warship. The
film is set in the Atlantic Ocean, headed towards the Pacific. After receiving orders to burn, sink, or
take the Acheron, the HMS Surprise, a British warship takes heavy fire from the armed French ship.
After the a long run of the Ships evading each other, the HMS Surprise finally takes over the
Acheron. Throughout the duration of this film, many Midshipmanare portrayed doing their daily
duties, during a time of war. The Midshipman vary in age and backgrounds, but are all loyal to
their captain. While under fire, many of the midshipmen were tested in strength, perseverance, the
ability to lead and follow directions in intense situations. Having only been a Midshipman for a
semester, I only relate to the younger, inexperienced Midshipman. With the many technological
advances and improvements to the rules and regulations, there is much that I may never relate to
because if the time difference. By having Midshipmen deployed and brought into battle, they are
forced to quickly adjust to their high stressed surroundings and learn to make best possible
decisions quickly. As a fourth class Midshipman, I ve only been exposed to a few leadership
exercises, during NSO, PT, and the leadership obstacle course at the beginning of the semester.
Although not holding a billet, I take in a

The Power Of The Nazi Party
Carl Schmitt argues that the role of myth plays an essential role in politics and that nationalism, in
any confrontation, will win over socialism. Schmitt s argument can be used to justify the events
that occurred in Germany during the late 20s and early 30s. However, even though nationalism did
play a key role in post hyperinflation Germany, it is far too simplistic to say that the only motive of
such events was nationalism. Events like the Beer hall putsch or the growth and success of the Nazi
partywere not solely because of nationalism. There were other factors that contributed to these
events such as the fact that Germany was in a terrible situation to begin with. Germany was in
chaos after WW1, and when the Great Depression followed, unemployment, inflation and food
shortage increased even more. Such events led to the growth of the Nazi party as Germans felt like
Hitler represented what many of them felt hatred of the republic. The Nazi party rose significatively
because of their usage of propaganda, their anti Semitism, their violence, their hatred of the Weimar
republicand also because of opportunism.
One way the Nazi party grew immensely was through their usage of propaganda. With such
propaganda, the Nazi intended to appeal their audiences with what they wanted to hear. Their
propaganda had a lot to do with their electoral success in 1930 since it was planned accordingly to
their audience, which mostly directed to workers. According to Richard J. Evans, in

The Crossroad Of Christian Sin Versus Moral Vice
The Crossroad of Christian Sin Versus Moral Vice One is not wicked solely on the basis that
they perform wicked acts, just as one who sins is not always a sinner. Sin covers a wide range of
behaviors; but if these behaviors become habits are they still sins? Augustine seemed to believe
that sins, whether small or large, are committed when man turns away from God. Similar to sin,
Aristotle frequented the discussion on vice, a state of excess or deficiency, with virtue being the
middle ground. As he said, We assume, then, that virtue is the sort of state that does the best
actions concerning pleasures and pains, and that vice is the contrary state (Irwin, p. 21, lines 28
29). He taught moral vice as different from vice, and having a direct correlation with incontinence.
A type of incontinence is the exorbitant desire for bodily pleasures, such as sex. This form of
incontinence is explored by Dante in Infernoand Purgatorio, Chaucer in Canterbury Tales, and
Augustine in his Confessions in the form of lust, a topic that will be later expanded on.
Incontinence is a lack of self control, something man either has a predisposing for or not; to be
incontinent is not a choice. This is where the disparity and intersection between moral vice and the
Christian sin present themselves. Through the works and teachings of Aristotle, Plato, Augustine,
Dante Alighieri, and Geoffrey Chaucer the definitions and acts of both Christian sin and moral vice
are explored in an attempt to

Plato s Allegory Of The Cave Essay
When you lose the person who matters most to you in this world, time alters. Time is no longer
a linear progression of events. Time becomes a memory of another life. Ten years pass within a
day, then you wake up and another decade has been added to the distance, an alien life form, a
foreign place, another person inhabiting your body in the past, and, yet, the memories flood the
goop of your brain, as if the single greatest loss of your life happened this morning. It s all curved
and bended and distorted, like an astronaut turning into spaghetti at the event horizon of some
black hole right here on planet earth. Nobody will ever get it. Plato s allegory of the cave: some
dipshit escapes the shadowy cave and returns to tell the other dick holes about this great truth he
s learned, but they just stare at him, like he jerks off to potatoes. This is what it s like. You re
alone, time becomes a fucking acid trip, and people become about as interesting as potted plants.
As I sit on the roof deck of this Wall Street condominium in Manhattan years after my entire life
had disappeared and become something unrecognizable, an indistinct memory floats down the
back of my skull like an ephemeral spirit in the darkness of night. The night watchman in my
building looks suspiciously through the glass door then waves when he sees me. I smile and
casually wave back. The memory faintly grabs hold of me again. The screaming and laughing of
children softly echoes from the distant past; the

The Incident Between Adrian Peterson And His Four Year Old...
This paper seeks to look at the incident between Adrian Peterson and his four year old son from the
son s perspective. There are no benefits to hitting a child and causing such undeserved pain and
suffering. There is disagreement as to whether the problems with physical punishment are problems
with frequent and/or harsh punishment or whether problem also exist with infrequent and mild
level of punishment. This paper will look at the upbringing of Peterson and the incident and
negative effects this incident had on his son. Parents have a wide discretion to administer
reasonable punishment of their children. A parent may spank a child who has misbehaved without
being liable for battery, or he may temporarily order the child to stay in his room as punishment, yet
not be held responsible for false imprisonment.
What does Corporal punishment mean? Murray Straus, a sociologist who has written extensively on
the topic, defines corporal punishment as the use of physical force with the intention of causing a
child to experience pain, but not hurt, for the purpose of correction or control of the child s
behavior. Some common forms of corporal punishment are: spanking, slapping, grabbing or
shoving a child roughly or hitting with objects like belt, paddle, or hair brush.
The debate on parenting is a very interesting topic. There are always two sides to a debate. Parents
have viewed spanking and discipline as a key if not the key to ensure a child can survive and adapt

Econ River Wilderness Analysis
The Econ River Wilderness Area is an amazing little swatch of how central Florida used to be. It
was interesting to see how many different ecological areas there were in that small bit of land, I
believe that we counted 7 in total. Each of these habitats were interesting in their own way and by
walking through them and physically seeing how difficult it is to decipher a clear cut line
between each habitat helped me appreciate them even more. After viewing each habitat it became
easier to understand how each overlaps the other. You will have vegetation in the pine flatwoods
that should be growing in the forested wetlands and other vegetation growing in the forested
wetlands that should only be growing in the live oak hammock. It is understandable how someone
who is surveying this area would have a difficult time determining the exact habitat they are in. I

amount of water does to be that great but the Econ River is significantly smaller and to see the

of flood plain areas into perspective. The lack of flood plains seems to be a growing concern with

Applied Criminal Justice Ethics
This has to be one of my favorite assignments since becoming a student at Kaplan. I have been
interested in the Criminal Justice since I was a small child. I come from a long line of military,
however, my passion has always been Criminal Law. I remember even as a young girl in the 2nd

Hamlet Critical Analysis
The soliloquy To Be or Not To Be is a famous piece in the play of Hamlet by W. Shakespeare. The
play, Hamlet, was written around about 1601. This play has been translated into more modern
English countless times and has been retold in theater and cinema enough that almost everyone
now knows this story. This comparison will be of the performances of Benedict Cumberbatchwho
plays a World War II style version of the piece in 2015 and then again in 2017 and 2018 in
encore, as well as the performance of Mel Gibson who plays a more traditional Hamlet in the 1990
movie of Hamlet. The performance by Benedict Cumberbatch was a performance which capitulated
the audienceas well as the emotions of the piece through its simplicity in set design and the detail
and brightness of the costume which works to enhance his performance of the piece. This highly
contrasts the performance of Mel Gibson, who is more dark and secretive. This makes the
performance more cinematic, although it makes it harder to find Gibson, makes the meaning of the
soliloquy darker and more emotive. Due to the excellent performances by both actors it makes it
hard to determine which better captures the character of hamlet, however, through the use of tone
and expression in the performances as well as the simple props and set design Cumberbatch s
performance better capitulates the emotions and meaning of Hamlet. The performance of Benedict
Cumberbatch in this soliloquy is mostly expressive through his voice and the

Quality Indicator Research Paper
Introduction
This paper intends to identify a Quality Indicator (QI) that measures and improves the quality of
care in long term care facilities. The quality indicator is: the percentage of long term residents
who report moderate to severe pain. I will describe the facility where the QI has been identified,
and how aspects of the organization impact the QI. I will also describe how the QI relates to the
facilities mission/vision/and values. I will identify a solution to the QI issue, which will help
remedy the issue. I will conclude with my personal/professional philosophy and how it applies to
the QI issue. My intention of the overall paper is to look at the facts, how data is gathered, and to

This results in a measured and documented approach to moving The Good Samaritan Society
forward operationally and strategically (A Lutheran Social Service Society, 2016).
In summary it talks about accountability, leadership, integrity, and stewardship to ensure that they
are fulfilling their obligation to provide Quality of Care. It is something that the Good Samaritan
takes pride in, the framework that they post on their website and also expressed by the
administrator, which she talked about with pride and respect for their patients they take care of.
One of the big impacts regarding this organizational structure and QI is that pain is a subjective
symptom, perceived differently, cognitive abilities are different, and verbalization of the extent of
pain. Pain is challenging to measure at Good Samaritan because of its subjective and variable
nature, because the pain experience is personal (subjective) pain is whatever the resident says it

Emotional Connection Through Visual Disconnection In Jackie
Emotional Connection Through Visual Disconnection in Jackie Directed by Pablo Larrain with
Cinematographer, Stephane Fontaine, Jackie was a revolutionary film because it provided an
alternate perspective of a story that has been told countless times before: the John F. Kennedy
assassination. But rather than tell the story from the standpoint of the man who committed the
crime, or the man who was the victim of it, Jackie tells the story of the woman who was perhaps
the most affected by it, but whose voice is rarely the center of the discourse surrounding it. In doing
so, the filmprovides its audience with a raw and at times, painful, glimpse into the life of Jackie
Kennedy leading up to, and shortly after, the assassination of her husband. The deepest... Show

During these scenes, Jackie is outwardly angry and depressed and the audience sees her
processing her grief in a very overt visual manner. However, some of the most powerful
depictions of Jackie s feelings occur during scenes where Jackie is simply the first lady and her
husband is still alive. In these moments, we don t see grief but rather a different type of pain that
is so repressed that it could not be expressed through her actions, so the filmmakers use framing,
lighting, and other visual elements to convey her emotions. The scene when Jackie arrives in
Dallas displays Jackie Kennedy s feelings of detachment that she experienced during the moments
leading up to her husband s assassination. Within the scene, there are many moments where Jackie
is facing completely away from the camera and all that is in the shot is the back of her head. As

Not even four feet tall the stocky, little man in patchy, homemade overalls was every bit of
invisible behind the massive haunches of Tiny, the circus s eldest, and in his opinion, smelliest,
African Elephant. Muttering obscenities beneath his breath, never missing a beat, Puppet
shoveled heavy scoopfuls of dung off the boxcar s floor and into an old wheelbarrow, pausing
only long enough to lean the shit stick against the wall before he grabbed the handles of the
wheelbarrow, his dark complexion reddening from the weight, and headed out to ditch the stink
someplace where it wouldn t be noticed until the circus was just a memory. He hated this work,
hated how all the fancy pants, the trapeze artists, the animal trainers, even the side show freaks
treated him as nothing more than a trained pet; existing only to clean up after them or serve them
in whatever fashion they so desired. He was even forced to bed down with the tamer animals. He
blamed the ringleader, Master Drachen, who since coming upon an abandoned toddler boy of

perpetual slave and personal object of ridicule. When Puppet was young he d been grateful to

Passenger Injured
Three Reasons a Passenger Injured in a Car Accident Needs an Attorney
If you were a passenger in a car that was involved in an accident and you have sustained injuries,
you are best served by contacting a personal injury attorney. Although it may seem straightforward
to file a claim, the situation may be complex. The following are three examples of this.
There is more than one car involved
If there are two cars involved, then you must decide who is at fault to file a claim. But you may
not have been paying attention, so you are not a witness. And the accident may not be one where
there is a clear case of fault. Even a police report may not shed enough light on the accident to make
a clear determination. In addition, the vehicle that hit you may be blaming another car for hitting
them first. This is common with several cars that rear end each other. It is best for an injured
passenger to have a personal injury attorney sort everything out.

her insurance. If the amount of compensation you are entitled to is beyond the amount of the
policy, it may be possible to bring a civil suit against the driver for additional compensation.

Why Columbus Day Should Not Be a Holiday Christopher Columbus has been viewed as a hero
for several centuries. Children in elementary schools all over the nation are taught that he

Columbus, as it turned out, was responsible for widespread genocide; he permitted his men to rape,

These nomads continued moving all the way to South America. By the time Europeans arrived in
America, there were already at least forty to fifty million indigenous people inhabiting the land
(Faber 4 5). Other explorers, from Norway, Greenland, and Iceland reached America centuries
before Columbus (Faber ix). Although these people attempted to live in this new land, they didn t
stay long, and failed to create a lasting historical impact (Faber 20 26).
Columbus never even walked on what we now call the United States of America. Where ever he
did land, he was motivated only by his own greed. Columbus came for the gold, spices, and
slaves. In his diary, he mentioned gold 75 times just in the first two weeks, alone (Katz 13).
Indians who weren t able to find gold, were punished by having their hands cut off. Most slaves
died en route to Spain. Many Indian females were taken as sex slaves, some as young as nine and
ten years old. Columbus forced cooperation from the Indians by disfiguring them and using them
as examples. Even worse, he used hunting dogs to tear the Indians apart. Many natives committed
suicide, and murdered their own children to save them from such a horrible life. Those who
survived the voyage were worked to death. Still, another huge portion of these Indians died from
disease brought over by Columbus and his

How Does Alan Moore Use Names In Watchmen
Alan Moore s Watchmen uses names to deconstruct various characters in the graphic novel.
Laurie s, Dan s, Kovacs , Adrian s, and Jon s multiple names provide insight into their
personalities and roles in the novel. Laurie Juspeczyk is the daughter of Sally Jupiter, formally
known as Silk Spectre. The name Laurie is derived from the Latin name Laurel . In Ancient
Rome, leaves of laurel trees are used to create garlands for victors and champions. Laurie
Juspeczyk s name directly relates to her characterand personality as somewhat of a sidekick.
While trying to convince Jon to save the world from destruction she says, I mean, ordinary

heroes actions. When Dan loses confidence in himself without his costume, Laurie tells him to

name confirms, leads to saving several civilians and Dan living up to his own expectations for

A Comparsion of the Bhagavad Gita vs The Gospels Essay
Coming from a western culture, it is easy to familiarize with the Gospels over any other written
text. In order to get a different perspective on the outlook of life, it is better to compare the Gospels
to another written text. A text that is an excellent candidate to stand up next to the Gospels is the
Bhagavad Gita (or just the Gita). These two texts can depict similarities and differences between the
two cultures presented: Christianityand Hinduism. Keeping an open mind when reading cultural
texts is what makes the texts more interesting and informs the reader more clearly. The analysis
between one western text and one non western text can really widen the perspective of one person.

One of the messages is to basically love God more than anything and put him before everything.
The verse of Matthew 22:37 states that: Thou shalt love The Lord Thy God with all Thy heart,
with all Thy soul, and with all Thy might. Likewise, the Gita says, Keep your mind on me, be my
devotee, sacrificing, bow to me you will come to me, I promise, for you are dear to me (Gita 155).
Clearly the meanings behind both these quotes are the same but just worded differently. Krishna
and Jesus constantly emphasize certain aspects that are similar to the other person s teaching. This
goes to show that even though Hinduism and Christianity are two separate cultures with two
different scriptural texts and two different religions, the idea and meaning behind both of these
religions are closely related. No matter how different the two religions may appear to be, the
meaning behind their scriptures is what really defies their religion. Just because the two religions
believe in different deities doesn t mean that the deities aren t teaching the exact same thing. It s
just that the two religions have different ways of teachings their followers and the teachings are
slightly worded differently, so this is where many people fall into the trap by thinking that the
meanings from the two scriptures are different and unique. Morality is the principles concerning the

Carl Sauer s Notion Of A Cultural Landscape And Why Is It...
Terrence McLaughlin
Landscapes, Place and People
Dr. Harriot Beazley
28 August 2015
What is Carl Sauer s notion of a cultural landscape and why is it useful for understanding the world?
Carl Sauer, one of the foremost geography scholars of the 20th century theorized that the defining
characteristics of a cultural landscape differed from those of his predecessors. His findings, while
contradictory to some of the most respected academics of his time, helped create an entirely new
way of thinking within the discipline (Sauer 1925). However, the influence of Sauer s work
extended well beyond the confines of any one discipline. He helped establish landscape studies in
cultural geography and strongly advocated for a responsible stewardship of the sustaining earth.
Additionally, he supplied an esthetic rationale and a historical perspective to the environmental
movement. His theory denounced the previously supported theory of environmental determinism,
and suggested that cultural landscapes are shaped by humans, as well as many other cultural
aspects. In a more complex sense Sauer proposed that cultural landscapes are the product of the
human population, and that the actions of humans and define the environment in which we all live.
In his own words, Sauer states that Culture is the agent, the natural area is the medium. The cultural
landscape the result.
Since Sauer first introduced his theory of cultural landscapes in 1925, much has changed in the way

The Techniques Used in American Beauty Essay
The п¬Ѓlm American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes is a п¬Ѓlm about imprisonment and escape
from imprisonment (Mendes, 1999). American Beauty explores the breakdown of a suburban
family man whose life journeys from self loathing and emptiness to freedom and liberation but at
the ultimate cost of his life. Mendes effectively employs a range of techniques to help convey the
meaning of this п¬Ѓlm such as set design, camera angles, colour and soundtrack.
Cinema often uses structured set design and camera angles to convey meaning to an audience.
Throughout American Beauty, MendesКј use of set design and camera angles have been carefully
structured to emphathise the п¬ЃlmКјs theme of imprisonment. In the opening scene the

Interestingly, as the п¬Ѓlm progresses and LesterКјs relationships evolve, the camera angles also
evolve in reverse and the audience begins to see Lester shot in a low angle and characters like
Carolyn are shot in a high angle, indicating that Carolyn is now vulnerable. These altered camera
angles give Lester a triumphant image.
Another technique Mendes uses is colour. The use of colour is often an important technique utilised
by п¬Ѓlm directors to communicate themes and ideas to an audience. In American Beauty, Mendes
powerfully uses colour to communicate that the characters are attempting to escape from their
imprisonment. Initially the characters are seen in environments that are very dull and nondescript,
as Mendes (1999) states when referring to LesterКјs work setting. As LesterКјs quest for
escapement gains momentum, the vivid colour of red is gradually introduced more into this п¬Ѓlm
through subtle furnishings in the Burnham house and particularly integrated with LesterКјs sexual
fantasies. The use of the vibrant, red rose petal is п¬Ѓrst introduced when Lester and Carolyn
attend JaneКјs cheer performance, where Lester loses himself as he enters his п¬Ѓrst tunnel of
fantasy (Mendes, 1999). Deschler (1999) states the rose is symbolic of American beauty, and the
colour red symbolises passion and love. The significance of the rose petal and the colour red is
repeatedly seen throughout the п¬Ѓlm in house furnishings such as a bouquet of

Summary Of Democracy Of America By Alexis De Tocqueville
In Democracy of America chapter XVII written by Alexis de Tocqueville, he discusses the plight
of indians(natives). Tocqueville talks about how he believed the fate of Native Americans would
be to completely deprived of liberty. In addition to what he believed, Tocqueville says, The
success of the Cherokees proves that the Indians are capable of civilization, but it does not prove
that they will succeed in it (page 401).Whenever the Indians were able to submit to civilization
they were never able to succeed and Tocqueville saw that from similar situations in Native
American history. He predicts that Native american nations were set to suffer destruction and also
that natives will never adapt themselves to reality, if they attempt to it will be too late. We see that
Alexis de tocqueville s observation proves to be correct in the contemporary stories of Sherman
Alexie. Lewis owens believes that Alexie paints a bitter picture against natives and he is correct in
saying that Sherman Alexie s stories incorrectly shows self destruction, the lack of family life and
the inability of natives to blame anyone but themselves for their situation on the reservation.
Sherman Alexie s interconnected stories describes the life of Native Americans living on the

Importance of Faith in Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne
In Young Goodman Brown, the main character, Goodman Brown has a bout with his own faith.
He ends up losing this battle because of the wickedness in everyone else s hearts. He begins by
wanting to be the evil one, then progresses to be the faithful one as the night in the woods goes

The Most Pragmatic And Realistic Approach
The Greatest Thing in the World was my favorite piece of reading from the entire semester in
Advanced Interpersonal Communication. I found this book to be the most pragmatic and realistic
approach to how to love while also being quite concise. Although I have enjoyed reading and
discussing The Great Divorce, The Four Loves, and Beloved through the year, none of them have
had the same sense of application for me as that of Henry Drummond s writing. Drummond uses
simple language to break down the superiority of love, the composition of love, and the
importance of love using the passage 1 Corinthians 13. It is a passage I was familiar with and had
even read many similar readings on, but none with such detail. Drummond s writings have made
me consider the dialectical tensions involved in communicating with the Body of Christ along
with the nature of love and the importance of relationships within the Body of Christ. There are
many points of tension within the Body of Christ due to imperfect people and their inability to
communicate love perfectly. People are supposed to practice love and with practice comes
mistakes. Earth s purpose is to act as an education on for us all to ask ourselves how better can we
love (Drummond, 36). Specifically, tensions arise when we become envious or prideful. Since there
are often others doing better than us, the temptation to be competitive presents itself often. Pride is
common because humility is difficult. Drummond suggests that after some

Theme of Hope Hope in the face of adversity, hope in spite of the depression and mere survival
they must endure, hope in the face of death and fear. One of the major themes that Cormac
McCarthy emphasizes in The Road is hope: hope for a better world, hope that there are still good
people out there. McCarthy uses the son as a symbol of hope throughout the novel to engage and
grasp the attention of his readers. Hope is what progresses the novel, therefore without hope there
is nothing. The sons character is a symbol of hope to the father throughout the novel. In the father
s perspective the son is almost described as holy, if he is not the word of god. god never ... Show

McCarthy utilizes food as a sign of hope. Throughout the novel the father and son are constantly
fighting the struggle of running low on food. When they find the bunker of food the text is full
of short sentences Canned hams. , Corned beef which emphasizes the father s joy and almost
disbelief of how hopeful the future will be with the abundance of good. The way the father also
repeatedly says oh my god, when throughout the book he maintains a fairly non religious view,
shows how it finding this food gives the father hope. Other than the boy the father has hope in
very few things. But one thing which is shown throughout The Road is the father s sense of
morals. The father always reassures the boy and himself that they are the good guys which gives
them the hope to keep persevere because they are, to the father, keeping goodness in the world
alive, carrying the flame. Cormac McCarthy presents the cannibals as a lost hope in The Road.
They are almost only referred to as the bad guys and are described as if they are animals with no
hope other than to survive. Choe 3 In the father s dream an animalistic creature is scared off by
the man and the boy, symbolizing how humanity after the end of the world is something to be
afraid of. Also in this dream the father and the son are holding a light, Their light playing over the
wet flowstone walls, which could be

The Impact Of Social Movements On Social Movement
Social movements shed light to social issues present in communities and harvest social change in
political, religious, educational, health, government, and other institutional matters. Social
movements give individuals a clear outlet to concerns about the rights and well being of themselves
and others, mostly through public protest and conversation, in order to promote social justice and
democracy. Throughout history, humans naturally ended up starting movements to simply improve
their way of life and movements have continually aided in a remarkable change in communities. In
the essay From Civil Rights to Megachurches, Charles Duhigg explains the three critical steps that
initiative successful social movements. Social movements must... Show more content on

For example, one in six black men had been incarcerated as of 2001 and today African Americans
comprise of nearly 1 million of the total 2.3 million incarcerated population and are imprisoned
at six times the rate of whites ( About the BLM Network ). If current trends continue and the
population of the African Americans increase, one in three black males born today can expect
to spend time in prison during his lifetime ( About the BLM Network ). This happens to be the
very example of what led to the start of the BLM movement and the uproar of the black
population. After 17 year old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by murder George Zimmerman
and was posthumously placed on trial for his own murder, only for Zimmerman to be acquitted,
#Blacklivesmatter was created in 2012 (King). Social media allowed participants to generate new
habits that create a fresh sense of identity and a feeling of ownership, especially when users could
easily share the hashtag along with his or her own views and ideas in a tweet or an Instagram
caption (Duhigg 87). This hashtag subsequently was formed into a protest and then ultimately a full
fledged movement: a movement uniting all black people to resist their dehumanization in America
and creating a voice for its members through social media. BLM has

According to One In Four, which presents statistics related to sexual assaults, 5% of women on
college campuses experience rape or attempted rape every year (Sexual Assault Statistics). How
can we ensure that this alarming 5% stays low? Security cameras don t prevent an attack from

they interviewed the New York Police Department who recently installed 3,000 public and private

Four Vanderbilt football players were accused of raping an unconscious female undergraduate
student (Allyn par 1). The situation transpired in a very odd way. Officials were reviewing the
surveillance footage of how a door was broken on one of the halls in the dorm when the officials
noticed something strange occurring (Allyn par 1). They noticed many men walking in and out
of one specific room, then, one player used a towel to cover the security cameras (Allyn par 1).
They concluded that the broken door could have only been done by one of the football players.
They began to interview the football players and concluded who was involved (Allyn par 7).
Other pieces of evidence like cell phone videos were used to determine who participated. This
example, provides support as to how surveillance cameras aren t an invasion of privacy, rather they
are beneficial in determining who participated in criminal

Biodoxics In Sports Biomechanics
When the human body moves during regular movement or during athletic performance, the
movements can be scientifically broken down and analyzed by biomechanics based on a number of
different analytics. Some of the most common analytics being evaluated are power, torque, joint
actions, linear velocity, and angular velocity. A person in recovery from an injury or a professional
athlete will often have their movements analyzed using the previously mentioned criteria to
determine improvement in performance. This assignment will explore the importance of those
biomechanical topics and how they are applied in sports biomechanics.
In order to begin defining the terms that are listed above, others topics need to be briefly
introduced, as the human body and its movements are extremely complex and interconnected.
Work is the basis of all body movement, without work movement does not occur. In his 2013
textbook Biomechanics of sport and exercise, P. McGinnis explains that work is the product of
force and the amount of displacement in the direction of that force (it is the means by which
energy is transferred from one object or system to another (p. 116). Force is another basis for all
of movement, both living and not. P. McGinnis defines force as a push or a pull which is exerted
by objects on other objects (McGinnis, 2013, p. 19). When exerting a force on an object, the
muscles in the human body contract which result in a pull . The rate at which muscles contract

I.Consumer electronic products, telecom industry and globalization
The focus of this paper is to review the sourcing strategy of Apple, a technology company
providing consumer electronic product, and examine if it is a good fit for telecom industry to adopt
the same strategy.
Consumer electronic by definition is any device that contains an electronic circuit board and is
intended for everyday use by an individual to enhance the quality of life. These devices can be
found in communication, office and entertainment products. Some examples of consumer products
are television, personal computer, cell phone, refrigerator, washer and dryer. Traditionally, consumer

The advancement of technology has made distinguishing some consumer electronic products
from telecom equipment difficult. For example, cell phone and laptop are both categorized as
consumer electronic product by the definition of consumer electronic product. However, since
cell phone is a tool for communication, it also can be categorized as telecom product as per the
definition of telecom equipment. Similarly, laptop can be used to communicate via VoIP as well
as exchange information over a distance. By definition, laptop also fits well as a telecom product.
Conversely, telecom equipment such as modem and router can also qualify as consumer electronic
products as they are both everyday use devices to many individuals to enhance quality of life. For
the purpose of this paper, we will categorize cell phone and laptop as consumer electronic devices
and keep router and modem in the telecom equipment section.
As the internet and hand held device technologies continue to advance, the area of interconnect
between the telecom and consumer electronics industries have together reshape the consumer
behavior. People no longer have to rely solely on telephone or telefax to communication or
exchange information in distance. The texting feature on the cell phone, for example,

NYAA Cheer Nationals
NYAA Cheer Nationals in Las Vegas There I was, In the Colorado Airport with some of my
teammates. We were sitting on the chairs waiting to aboard our second flight, that will later then
take us to Las Vegas, Nevada, for our NYAA Cheerleading Nationals. The NYAA Cheer
Nationals is the biggest competition of our season, and in order to go, you have to place top 3 at
Regions and State, and get the bid to go. We were really excited to be there this year. The team
went to Myrtle Beach last year for 2016 Nationals, but this was before I was on the team. At the
2016 Nationals, they hit 0, and had no deductions and still did not even place. So when we went
into Nationals, we did not even think that we were gonna place top 5. The goal was to place top 3,
and the dream was to get first.
We had a lot of fun because a lot of us got there like about 3 days before the actual competition.
So, we would go to the pool and or just walk around because there was a food court and bowling
alley, so we would have fun. We would just run around and eat all day and have team bonding
time. We had practice the day before our competition and we hit everything and was doing really
good.
The next morning we woke up bright and early to get everyone s hair and makeup ... Show more

gonna get 4th, and they did not call us.. By then, we were all crying. We for sure we were gonna
get 3rd after that, but they did not call us, so then we were all balling. Then they called second
and it was us, we were all crying our eyes out. If the stunt would not have dropped we would have
gotten first place, but that drives us to work harder. It was an amazing time that I will never forget,

Nursing Reflection
During this session, I was able to observe Ms. Thomas affect, the tone of her voice and her
verbal and nonverbal cues that she was in distress. It appeared that she was in crisis mode, needed
to feel supported and needed my help. Ms. Thomas also disclosed to me her secrete she was not
sharing with her granddaughter about her medical condition. Looking at it from Ms. Thomas
perspective, she might be feeling sad, despair, afraid, disappointed and wondering why me. My
responses were intended to provide empathy and a sense of understanding and support. In addition,
I was assessing her emotional stability and level of understanding of the upcoming medical
intervention.
When Ms. Thomas started crying I was thinking to myself that she didn t feel hopeful about her
upcoming surgery. Ms. Thomas frequently apologized for crying during her session and each time
I reassure her that it was ok to cry and take as much time she needs to let it out.
During this session, I felt connected to Ms. Thomas as I was able to tune in with her emotion as I
experienced similar emotions when informed that a coworker/friend was diagnosed with cancer.
When Ms. Thomas said that she was diagnosed with cancer, I was taken back to when I found out
my coworker was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and nothing could be done to save his life.
Throughout this interaction with Ms. Thomas, I was experiencing countertransference. According
to Shulman, countertransference is the complex feelings of a

Sold By Patricia Mccormick Character Analysis
The devastating story of the thirteen year old girl, Lakshmi, endures all kinds of hardship when
she was sold into sex trafficking in hopes to earn her family more money. Patricia McCormick
shows her readers the horrors of the reality of sex trafficking, through the eyes of Lakshmi, a girl
in her book in Sold. All of the victims make life changing decisions hoping to help their families
have a better life. Every one of them go through many individual circumstances that make each of
them a different person to help them with their situation. In Sold, Patricia McCormick uses the sex
slaves experiences to show how people become stronger as they overcome the challenges in their
lives. Lakshmi is the main character in Sold, and she has many experiences while she is living at the

where men are sent to them. They are all helpless in this situation and are unable to do anything
to help themselves. This is shown when Lakshmi says, Underneath the weight of him, I cannot
see or move or breathe (McCormick 103). This memory gives each of the girls a push in the
present, because they know they have been through worse. It gives them the strength to get
through one more day or to fight back. Something else each of the girls do is their nightly
routine, or work, when they have to doll themselves up to look their part. They do this because, if
you want to pay off your debt, you must do what it takes to make them choose you (McCormick
141). They have to make sure they look impressive in order to pay off what they are told they owe.
Every night, they get a little tougher and go through another work night. They become fighters as
they learn to hide their emotions beneath the makeup they have to wear each night. These girls

kitchen. From that aroma to the tastiest dish prepared inside, the kitchen is a favourite spot for
any person at home. Along with those spices, a crisp remodel will add an overall polish and look
to your home and leads to overall home improvement. If you find some damages in your kitchen
walls, countertops, cabinets and on other attachments then you should go for the kitchen renovation
project. Now you can replace your old kitchen cabinets and install some latest designer cabinets with
a maximum storage space. Apart from that, there are some modern countertops available, which can

The Three Kinds of Kitchen Renovations
1.Cosmetic Makeover: With a low budget and an intention to make small changes, this makeover

Crime, As A Phenomenon, Tends To Vary In Prevalence By
Crime, as a phenomenon, tends to vary in prevalence by location. Some scholars state that a city
does not develop randomly, but grows according to basic social processes such as invasion,
dominance and accommodation (Robert E. Park, 1925) which then establishes a moral order .
social ecosystems behold and develop unique values meaning the sanctity of aspects such as family,
environment, materials, and culture in certain geographical spaces may be more susceptible to crime
than other spaces. In Australia, the two biggest factors that influence the rate of crime seem to be
population density and economic disparity. This, along with acclaimed criminological theory such
as crime pattern theory and routine activity theory provides an... Show more content on

From January 2016 to January 2017, Fremantle experienced 383 assaults, North Bridge with 420,
and Perth with 834. Although the scene of the nightlife in itself may have some contribution to
criminal activity, it is typically the socialisation between large, dense groups of people that
encourage potentially dangerous factors like drug and alcohol abuse.

However, with non
violent crimes, some researchers found that property crime is more prevalent in regions containing
smaller cities and towns rather than large cities (AndrГ© Michel Guerry, 1830). Overall, Guerry
end up concluding that associating crime as a direct correlation to population density is rather an
oversimplification of crime as a phenomenon, ignoring a variety of factors which regularly (but not
all the time) accompany population density. Guerry s conclusion still holds strong relevance in
contemporary arguments; especially in Australia. The state governments of New South Wales and
Victoria predicate their arguments for more funding from the Australian Grants Commission on the
fact that their cities are larger and more densely populated thus producing a more crime producing
environment which justifies more funding. However, this justification is opposed by surveys and
police data that express WA and SA having experienced higher crime rates than NSW and Victoria,
and their cities having at minimum similar rates with the two

Comparing Louise of The Story of an Hour and Nora of A Doll s House In Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour, the main character is a woman who has been controlled and conformed to the norms of society. Louise Mallard has apparently given her entire life to assuring her husband s happiness while forfeiting her own. This truth is also apparent in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House. In this story, Nora Helmer has also given her life to a man who has very little concern for her feelings or beliefs. This statement shows how he has held her back from expressing herself as a person and has forced his strong will upon her with which to obey. Nora has also been forced to conform to her role in society. She has conformed to playing the role of a caring housewife and mother. Her husband Torvald keeps a tight reign on her and makes sure that she behaves only as he pleases. In one instance, he detects that Nora has not been truthful with him. He remarks, My little song bird must never do that again. A song bird must have a clean beak to chirp with?no false notes (761)! This remark allows the audience to understand how much control he has over Nora. Throughout this story, Mr. Helmer maintains an arrogant attitude and expects Nora to always agree with him. In one instance, Nora remarks to him, But don t you think it is nice of me too, to do as you wish? Torvald responds, Nice??because you do as your husband wishes? There are many definitions and interpretations of traditional or transformational communicating leadership. The text book definition for traditional viewpoint of management offers this, The oldest and perhaps most widely accepted view of management is the traditional viewpoint. It is split into three main branches: bureaucratic management, scientific management, and administrative management (Hellriegel, 2005). Studies have been made on leadership communication and management styles since the Civil War. With many decades of research it has evolved over time to specific categories. • 11. British Romantic Poetry As A Revolutionary Part Of England... British romantic poetry was remarkable for a myriad of reasons. Not only did it vouch for a focus on nature in literature, but also showed an increased interest in both the emotion of the average person, and a heightened esteem for imagination as well as the wonder and amazement that accompanied children. Of course, it showed a darker side of the world as well, with some of the more distinguished writers focusing on the poor and how they lived. Stylistically, there was also a clear influence from Greek culture, with many poems taking inspiration from Greece s literature and culture, along with other supernatural aspects that were added in. In a place where many types of literature found their start, what made British Romantic poetry a revolutionary part of England s culture? The answer is simple. Because the genre was so unique, it attracted many different kinds of people, some of whom would never have been accepted in any other literary genre. For example, Lord Byron was, by all accounts, an eccentric. His unique mannerisms and his reportedly very flamboyant attitude earned his hordes of fans who both devours his work and kept track of his life. Of course, there were more straight laced people as well, such as John Keats, who started studying to become a doctor and wound up growing into one of the most loved British poets after his death. While under fire, many of the midshipmen were tested in strength, perseverance, the ability to lead and follow directions in intense situations. • 13. The Power Of The Nazi Party Carl Schmitt argues that the role of myth plays an essential role in politics and that nationalism, in any confrontation, will win over socialism. Schmitt s argument can be used to justify the events that occurred in Germany during the late 20s and early 30s. However, even though nationalism did play a key role in post hyperinflation Germany, it is far too simplistic to say that the only motive of such events was nationalism. Events like the Beer hall putsch or the growth and success of the Nazi partywere not solely because of nationalism. There were other factors that contributed to these events such as the fact that Germany was in a terrible situation to begin with. Germany was in chaos after WW1, and when the Great Depression followed, unemployment, inflation and food shortage increased even more. Such events led to the growth of the Nazi party as Germans felt like Hitler represented what many of them felt hatred of the republic. The Nazi party rose significatively because of their usage of propaganda, their anti Semitism, their violence, their hatred of the Weimar republicand also because of opportunism. One way the Nazi party grew immensely was through their usage of propaganda. With such propaganda, the Nazi intended to appeal their audiences with what they wanted to hear. Their propaganda had a lot to do with their electoral success in 1930 since it was planned accordingly to their audience, which mostly directed to workers. According to Richard J. Evans, in ... • 16. The Crossroad Of Christian Sin Versus Moral Vice The Crossroad of Christian Sin Versus Moral Vice One is not wicked solely on the basis that they perform wicked acts, just as one who sins is not always a sinner. Sin covers a wide range of behaviors; but if these behaviors become habits are they still sins? Augustine seemed to believe that sins, whether small or large, are committed when man turns away from God. Similar to sin, Aristotle frequented the discussion on vice, a state of excess or deficiency, with virtue being the middle ground. As he said, We assume, then, that virtue is the sort of state that does the best actions concerning pleasures and pains, and that vice is the contrary state (Irwin, p. 21, lines 28 29). He taught moral vice as different from vice, and having a direct correlation with incontinence. A type of incontinence is the exorbitant desire for bodily pleasures, such as sex. This form of incontinence is explored by Dante in Infernoand Purgatorio, Chaucer in Canterbury Tales, and Augustine in his Confessions in the form of lust, a topic that will be later expanded on. Incontinence is a lack of self control, something man either has a predisposing for or not; to be incontinent is not a choice. This is where the disparity and intersection between moral vice and the Christian sin present themselves. Through the works and teachings of Aristotle, Plato, Augustine, Dante Alighieri, and Geoffrey Chaucer the definitions and acts of both Christian sin and moral vice are explored in an attempt to ... • 17. Plato s Allegory Of The Cave Essay When you lose the person who matters most to you in this world, time alters. Time is no longer a linear progression of events. Time becomes a memory of another life. Ten years pass within a day, then you wake up and another decade has been added to the distance, an alien life form, a foreign place, another person inhabiting your body in the past, and, yet, the memories flood the goop of your brain, as if the single greatest loss of your life happened this morning. It s all curved and bended and distorted, like an astronaut turning into spaghetti at the event horizon of some black hole right here on planet earth. Nobody will ever get it. Plato s allegory of the cave: some dipshit escapes the shadowy cave and returns to tell the other dick holes about this great truth he s learned, but they just stare at him, like he jerks off to potatoes. This is what it s like. You re alone, time becomes a fucking acid trip, and people become about as interesting as potted plants. There are no benefits to hitting a child and causing such undeserved pain and suffering. There is disagreement as to whether the problems with physical punishment are problems with frequent and/or harsh punishment or whether problem also exist with infrequent and mild level of punishment. This paper will look at the upbringing of Peterson and the incident and negative effects this incident had on his son. Parents have a wide discretion to administer reasonable punishment of their children. A parent may spank a child who has misbehaved without being liable for battery, or he may temporarily order the child to stay in his room as punishment, yet not be held responsible for false imprisonment. What does Corporal punishment mean? Murray Straus, a sociologist who has written extensively on the topic, defines corporal punishment as the use of physical force with the intention of causing a child to experience pain, but not hurt, for the purpose of correction or control of the child s behavior. Some common forms of corporal punishment are: spanking, slapping, grabbing or shoving a child roughly or hitting with objects like belt, paddle, or hair brush. The debate on parenting is a very interesting topic. There are always two sides to a debate. After viewing each habitat it became easier to understand how each overlaps the other. • 21. Hamlet Critical Analysis The soliloquy To Be or Not To Be is a famous piece in the play of Hamlet by W. Shakespeare. The play, Hamlet, was written around about 1601. This play has been translated into more modern English countless times and has been retold in theater and cinema enough that almost everyone now knows this story. This comparison will be of the performances of Benedict Cumberbatchwho plays a World War II style version of the piece in 2015 and then again in 2017 and 2018 in encore, as well as the performance of Mel Gibson who plays a more traditional Hamlet in the 1990 movie of Hamlet. The performance by Benedict Cumberbatch was a performance which capitulated the audienceas well as the emotions of the piece through its simplicity in set design and the detail and brightness of the costume which works to enhance his performance of the piece. This highly contrasts the performance of Mel Gibson, who is more dark and secretive. This makes the performance more cinematic, although it makes it harder to find Gibson, makes the meaning of the soliloquy darker and more emotive. Due to the excellent performances by both actors it makes it hard to determine which better captures the character of hamlet, however, through the use of tone and expression in the performances as well as the simple props and set design Cumberbatch s performance better capitulates the emotions and meaning of Hamlet. Terrence McLaughlin Landscapes, Place and People Dr. Harriot Beazley 28 August 2015 What is Carl Sauer s notion of a cultural landscape and why is it useful for understanding the world? Carl Sauer, one of the foremost geography scholars of the 20th century theorized that the defining characteristics of a cultural landscape differed from those of his predecessors. His findings, while contradictory to some of the most respected academics of his time, helped create an entirely new way of thinking within the discipline (Sauer 1925). However, the influence of Sauer s work extended well beyond the confines of any one discipline. He helped establish landscape studies in cultural geography and strongly advocated for a responsible stewardship of the sustaining earth. Additionally, he supplied an esthetic rationale and a historical perspective to the environmental movement. His theory denounced the previously supported theory of environmental determinism, and suggested that cultural landscapes are shaped by humans, as well as many other cultural aspects. In a more complex sense Sauer proposed that cultural landscapes are the product of the human population, and that the actions of humans and define the environment in which we all live. • 35. The Techniques Used in American Beauty Essay The п¬Ѓlm American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes is a п¬Ѓlm about imprisonment and escape from imprisonment (Mendes, 1999). American Beauty explores the breakdown of a suburban family man whose life journeys from self loathing and emptiness to freedom and liberation but at the ultimate cost of his life. Mendes effectively employs a range of techniques to help convey the meaning of this п¬Ѓlm such as set design, camera angles, colour and soundtrack. Cinema often uses structured set design and camera angles to convey meaning to an audience. These altered camera angles give Lester a triumphant image. Another technique Mendes uses is colour. The use of colour is often an important technique utilised by п¬Ѓlm directors to communicate themes and ideas to an audience. In American Beauty, Mendes powerfully uses colour to communicate that the characters are attempting to escape from their imprisonment. Initially the characters are seen in environments that are very dull and nondescript, as Mendes (1999) states when referring to LesterКјs work setting. As LesterКјs quest for escapement gains momentum, the vivid colour of red is gradually introduced more into this п¬Ѓlm through subtle furnishings in the Burnham house and particularly integrated with LesterКјs sexual fantasies. The use of the vibrant, red rose petal is п¬Ѓrst introduced when Lester and Carolyn attend JaneКјs cheer performance, where Lester loses himself as he enters his п¬Ѓrst tunnel of fantasy (Mendes, 1999). Deschler (1999) states the rose is symbolic of American beauty, and the colour red symbolises passion and love. • 36. Summary Of Democracy Of America By Alexis De Tocqueville In Democracy of America chapter XVII written by Alexis de Tocqueville, he discusses the plight of indians(natives). Tocqueville talks about how he believed the fate of Native Americans would be to completely deprived of liberty. In addition to what he believed, Tocqueville says, The success of the Cherokees proves that the Indians are capable of civilization, but it does not prove that they will succeed in it (page 401).Whenever the Indians were able to submit to civilization they were never able to succeed and Tocqueville saw that from similar situations in Native American history. He predicts that Native american nations were set to suffer destruction and also that natives will never adapt themselves to reality, if they attempt to it will be too late. We see that Alexis de tocqueville s observation proves to be correct in the contemporary stories of Sherman Alexie. Lewis owens believes that Alexie paints a bitter picture against natives and he is correct in saying that Sherman Alexie s stories incorrectly shows self destruction, the lack of family life and the inability of natives to blame anyone but themselves for their situation on the reservation. Sherman Alexie s interconnected stories describes the life of Native Americans living on the spokane indian reservation. • 39. The Most Pragmatic And Realistic Approach The Greatest Thing in the World was my favorite piece of reading from the entire semester in Advanced Interpersonal Communication. I found this book to be the most pragmatic and realistic approach to how to love while also being quite concise. Although I have enjoyed reading and discussing The Great Divorce, The Four Loves, and Beloved through the year, none of them have had the same sense of application for me as that of Henry Drummond s writing. Drummond uses simple language to break down the superiority of love, the composition of love, and the importance of love using the passage 1 Corinthians 13. It is a passage I was familiar with and had even read many similar readings on, but none with such detail. Drummond s writings have made me consider the dialectical tensions involved in communicating with the Body of Christ along with the nature of love and the importance of relationships within the Body of Christ. There are many points of tension within the Body of Christ due to imperfect people and their inability to communicate love perfectly. People are supposed to practice love and with practice comes mistakes. Earth s purpose is to act as an education on for us all to ask ourselves how better can we love (Drummond, 36). Specifically, tensions arise when we become envious or prideful. Since there are often others doing better than us, the temptation to be competitive presents itself often. Pride is common because humility is difficult. Drummond suggests that after some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

McCarthy uses the son as a symbol of hope throughout the novel to engage and grasp the attention of his readers. Hope is what progresses the novel, therefore without hope there is nothing. When they find the bunker of food the text is full of short sentences Canned hams. , Corned beef which emphasizes the father s joy and almost disbelief of how hopeful the future will be with the abundance of good. The way the father also repeatedly says oh my god, when throughout the book he maintains a fairly non religious view, shows how it finding this food gives the father hope. Other than the boy the father has hope in very few things. But one thing which is shown throughout The Road is the father s sense of morals. The father always reassures the boy and himself that they are the good guys which gives them the hope to keep persevere because they are, to the father, keeping goodness in the world alive, carrying the flame. Cormac McCarthy presents the cannibals as a lost hope in The Road. They are almost only referred to as the bad guys and are described as if they are animals with no hope other than to survive. Biodoxics In Sports Biomechanics When the human body moves during regular movement or during athletic performance, the movements can be scientifically broken down and analyzed by biomechanics based on a number of different analytics. Some of the most common analytics being evaluated are power, torque, joint actions, linear velocity, and angular velocity. A person in recovery from an injury or a professional athlete will often have their movements analyzed using the previously mentioned criteria to determine improvement in performance. This assignment will explore the importance of those biomechanical topics and how they are applied in sports biomechanics. In order to begin defining the terms that are listed above, others topics need to be briefly introduced, as the human body and its movements are extremely complex and interconnected. Work is the basis of all body movement, without work movement does not occur. In his 2013 textbook Biomechanics of sport and exercise, P. McGinnis explains that work is the product of force and the amount of displacement in the direction of that force (it is the means by which energy is transferred from one object or system to another (p. 116). Force is another basis for all of movement, both living and not. P. McGinnis defines force as a push or a pull which is exerted by objects on other objects (McGinnis, 2013, p. 19). Some scholars state that a city does not develop randomly, but grows according to basic social processes such as invasion, dominance and accommodation (Robert E. Park, 1925) which then establishes a moral order . social ecosystems behold and develop unique values meaning the sanctity of aspects such as family, environment, materials, and culture in certain geographical spaces may be more susceptible to crime than other spaces. Although the scene of the nightlife in itself may have some contribution to criminal activity, it is typically the socialisation between large, dense groups of people that encourage potentially dangerous factors like drug and alcohol abuse.

However, with non violent crimes, some researchers found that property crime is more prevalent in regions containing smaller cities and towns rather than large cities (AndrГ© Michel Guerry, 1830). Overall, Guerry end up concluding that associating crime as a direct correlation to population density is rather an oversimplification of crime as a phenomenon, ignoring a variety of factors which regularly (but not all the time) accompany population density. Guerry s conclusion still holds strong relevance in contemporary arguments; especially in Australia. The state governments of New South Wales and Victoria predicate their arguments for more funding from the Australian Grants Commission on the fact that their cities are larger and more densely populated thus producing a more crime producing environment which justifies more funding. However, this justification is opposed by surveys and police data that express WA and SA having experienced higher crime rates than NSW and Victoria, and their cities having at minimum similar rates with the two ...
