Margibi County In Monrovia
METHODS
Context and community description
Home to more than 200,000 people, Margibi County is the second most densely populated county
in Liberia. Located in the South Central region of Liberia, it borders Montserrado county, home of
nation s capital of Monrovia. Residents here experience extreme rates of poverty most without
access to essential assets, electricity, running water, or flushable toilets (LISGIS citation). Margibi
County residents also experience substantial barriers to accessing healthcare. The Liberia Institute
of Statistics and Geo Information Services report that between 56 69% of Margibi residents live
more than 40 minutes from the nearest health facility (citation needed), a fact that had exacerbated
the challenges associated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the Epi Info VHF and DHIS 2 databases were cleaned and prepared by epidemiology
department staff at the WHO Country Office, Liberia to produce a historical dataset of
unduplicated cases. Consistent with the WHO s Ebola Situation Reports, three categories of EVD
incidence were included in this study suspected, probable, and confirmed cases. Suspected cases
included any person that had experienced symptoms consistent with EVD (e.g., high fever,
vomiting) or had come in contact with persons that had suffered symptoms of EVD or a dead or
sick animal. Probable cases are defined as those suspected cases evaluated by a physician.
Confirmed cases are those suspected cases that were confirmed positive for EVD antigen through
laboratory testing. Including suspected cases, rather than those persons examined by a physician or
experienced laboratory confirmation for EVD diagnosis, captures persons without access to
healthcare, an important segment among those affected by the

As You Go Creating A Missional Culture Of Gospel Centered...
Book Review: As you Go Creating a Missional Culture of Gospel Centered Students Alvin L. Reid
explains and covers multiple ideas, issues, subjects, and solutions pertaining to missional student
ministry. Throughout reading the book it is evident that Reid is not only extremely passionate
about the missional aspect of the student ministry, but also the reasoning behind this aspect. Reid s
chapters recognize the issues that many student ministries deal with and how the ministry can go
from just an event to a mission ministry. Throughout this book review I will summarize the content
and highlight the key components that Reid speaks about. In regards to what Reid explains about a
missional student ministry I will speak of how it will affect... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He also claims, This book is not intended to focus on what is wrong in student ministry, however,
but to offer a new (or renewed) way of thinking (Reid 18). Here Reid clearly states what the
purpose of this book is and not to necessarily fix the ministry, but rather enhance it and provide a
new way of thinking about missions. Reid then goes on throughout chapter one to explain in detail
the purposes in missional ministry and why. In this section Reid explains that the students today
as a generation are leaning toward challenges and making a difference. He even goes as far as
defining this word, Missional: to see the world with the eyes of a missionary, to think like a
missionary and to relate to others as a missionary with a message of the gospel. In short, life is
ministry. Make disciples as you go (Reid 27). Reid goes on explaining the missional shift that has
happened in the western church and how this can impact the student ministry as a whole. This idea
of missional ministry in the student ministry is simply not in perspective and Reid covers this. He
goes throughout many chapters explaining how the bar has been set too low and why this
missional aspect is not being brought up in student ministry. Reid then centers in on the gospel in
chapter two and what this means as it impacts the missional ministry. The main point of this is so
that one understands that the reasoning of the gospel is not solely

The Girls Are Considered Outcasts
Three hundred girls are considered outcasts every year. They re shipped off into an unknown
area to most people. The girls are only eleven and they re taken away from their families. Their
families are the ones that want them gone. I boarded the cruise ship and I walked in the suite.
There were a huge group of boys walking around. The cruise shipis very warm and it s very cozy.
The boarding event takes about three hours. The girls have to line up and they have to get a
baggage check. I can t wait to go on this journey. I just feel unloved by my parents. The boys are
there to help the girls.
They re outcasts too, but they re much older than the girls. They re either sixteen or seventeen.
There s a front desk and the workers used their computers. The workers are boys and they make
sure the girls are ok. It s been two hours since the boarding event started. I reached my room and it
was a luxury suite. I shared the room with another girl. Her name is Bailey Holland. Her dad is rich
and I heard she is very smart. Bailey greeted me and I smiled.
Hi, Bailey. I said. Hi, Sarina. Bailey said. You know my name? I said. Of course, the workers
told me you would be my roommate. They showed me your picture. You are so pretty. Bailey
said. Thank you. I said. I heard there s a very big restaurant that sells barbecue and steaks. Bailey
said. I love barbecue. I said. There are more restaurants. Bailey said. Let s check them out. I said.

Executive Officer Chief Executive Officers
Chief Executive Officers (which will be referred to as CEOs for the remainder of this paper) is
arguably the most prestigious position an individual can hold in the business world. There is no
disputing the high level of responsibility necessary to manage the operations and resources of
any company, while also being the key figure between the company s board of directors and the
stakeholders which are effected as a result of the company s actions. Despite the high level of
responsibility, it is worth asking a question that has been up for debate not just in recent years, but
for the past several decades, which is whether or not CEO compensation can be justified? Just to
put into perspective how much one of Canada s highest paid CEOs makes,... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
The short answer is no. I firmly believe that today s CEOs are overpaid as a result of the use of stock
options as a pay initiative; rewarding CEOs with huge severance packages regardless of whether
they bring success to the company or not; and because they are essentially overpaid managers
Stock Options are one of the Main Culprits for Overcompensation of CEOs
If we break down how CEOs are generally paid we may look at their base salary, which can range
from approximately $300,000 upwards to between 4 and 5 million for Canada s top executives.
What the average person may not be informed about is the additional compensation that is
available to be earned from bonuses, stock options, and other payments on top of the base salary.
Canada s Highest earning CEO in 2015, Gerald W. Schwartz of Onex Corporation, made $86.5
Million of his total $87.9 Million salary from other such forms of compensation. Stock options
are typically used as a form of compensation because they offer the CEO an incentive laden form
of salary that in theory will make the CEO make decisions in the best interest of the shareholders,
and if share prices go up they too are rewarded. Stock options are truly a no lose situation for the
CEO, because they are not required to pay for the options and in the event of share price

Essay on Social Expectations of Women
Kimberly Griffis Eula Thompson English 101Tues/Thurs 9:30 The Effect Social Expectations of
the Nineteenth Century Had on Women Living in That Time Period The behaviors and desires
of women the nineteenth century were impacted strongly by the social expectations of their
time. Kate Chopin s character, Louise Mallard, from The Story of an Hour , Emily Grierson
from A Rose for Emily by Willliam Faulkner, and the character Roselily from Alice Walker s
Roselily are all examples of women restricted by the time they live in. Women in the nineteenth
century were expected to get married and to take care of their husband as well as cooking,
cleaning, and looking after their children. Women were expected to put aside their dreams and...

Her father thought that she should be a housekeeper and never let her leave the house. Emily
wanted a family and a husband but back then marriages were more for convienence and not for
love. Emily wanted love and this kept from marrying someone she did not have feelings for.
After Emily s father died she no longer had to live up to his expectations but because he never let
her leave the house she was unfamiliar with the new, modern ideas and did not embrace them
because she was so used to the ideals her father had instilled her. Another expectation of women
was that they were not to handle money. A group of men came to Emily for taxes and she
denied, saying I have no taxes in Jefferson. It was a man s job to take care of all money
transactions because they worked for the money and because women could not buy land in the
nineteenth century, taxes were left to the men. Emily kept saying she had no taxes because she
still lived up to the social expectation that women could not handle money. In the story the ladies
were gossiping about Miss Emily and one of them said Just as if a man any man could keep a
kitchen properly. It was a woman s job to keep the kitchen and the ladies disapproved that Emily
was not running her kitchen. Men and women in the nineteenth century were raised up to get
married and never take a lover. Women, and their families, were expected to go to church, so they
knew that killing was wrong. Emily broke social

Christianity And Birth Control
Human life is a sacred right that all individuals possess. It is unlawful and mortally sinful to take
away or prevent the life of an infant. Human life is sacred all men must recognize that fact, said
Pope John XXIII in defense of the unborn (John XXIII). To be truly pro life, one must accept that
doing so does not only refer to being opposed to abortion, but also being opposed to birth control
and contraception. The Catholic Church has professed for two thousand years that the conjugal act
is a gift from God to married couples for the sole purpose of procreation. This gift is abused and
perverted by humans; who view conjugal love as a means of pleasure rather than what it truly is.
Abortion, contraception and birth control are three methods... Show more content on

The popularity and convenience of birth control has led to a higher popularity of abortions.
Historically, Christianity has always condemned birth control and the contraceptive mentality for
2,000 years until the Lambeth Conference of the Anglican Communion in 1930 (Carlson). Many
other Protestant communities jumped on the bandwagon and embraced this modern and destructive
practice. The Roman Catholic Church has stood firm in her tradition and doctrine during these dark
times. His Holiness, Pope Paul VI, condemned birth control and contraception as immoral in the
papal encyclical Humanae Vitae. Consequently, it is a serious error to think that a whole
married life of otherwise normal relations can justify sexual intercourse which is deliberately
contraceptive and so intrinsically wrong (Paul VI). Anyone who claims to be pro life, yet
embraces contraceptives, is truly flattering himself. God struck Onan dead in Genesis for
performing coitus interruptus, spilling his seed on the ground, which is a severe punishment
indeed. Imagine the anger of God toward those who interfere with the means to create life that
he gave humanity. Using birth control is telling God that man controls creation, not Him. It is
intrinsically blasphemous and disobedient in nature. Sexual immorality is condemned by the
Bible and birth control certainly falls within this category since it is a means to misuse intimacy
for the purpose of pleasure, rather than procreation. Christian and non Christian married couples
should use sex for procreation instead of using each others bodies just for pleasure. Pleasures are so
readily available in this world, and now God s own generative process is being corrupted by
modern medicine. It is God who remains the sovereign Master of life. We are obliged to accept life
gratefully and preserve it

Failures of Internet Censorship Essay
Internet censorship is the use of filters or blocks to control what is published, access and viewed
across the internet. It is used by parents, organisations such as schools and corporations and
governments to restrict what their citizen s access and post online. Internet censorship has occurred
since the early days of the public internet, where governments around the world have attempted to
address the issue of illegal material, political propaganda, harmful material or content deemed
unsuitable for children. This essay will discuss the instances of internet censorshipfailing to work,
including when governments have attempted to introduce legislation to restrict access to the
internet, and the reasons for the failure. Censorship across... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In this particular instance, internet censorship failed to work to some extent due to the cooperation
of combined companies and government. However, other techniques are used in order to restrict
search engine results.
Governments use different techniques to censor and restrict the internet. As stated previously the
Great Firewall of China, also known as the Golden Shield Project is considered the advanced
Internet censorship regime in the world and the largest in the world. The Chinese Government
utilises many techniques in the filtering and restriction of content. The most common techniques
are IP Blocking, DNS filtering and redirection, URL filtering, Packet filtering and Connection
reset . In light of these filtering and censorship methods, citizens of china have managed to
circumvent their government s censorship by accessing the internet through proxies and VPN
s. A proxy re routs a users request via another server, so that it appears that the request is coming
from that server. The website being access sends the data back to the proxy and the proxy
forwards it to the user. The proxy will only secure traffic via the internet browser. Unlike a Proxy,
a VPN encrypts all traffic, not just the web browser. Programs like TOR (The Onion Router) are
designed to allow users to navigate around the firewall and encrypt their traffic. With programs
such as TOR, Ultrasurf and Freegate (just to name a few) residents in China have been

The Bill Of Rights Of The American Nation
Virginia s document ultimately influenced the Bill of Rights being created for the federation as a
whole, rather than state by state. In December 1791, James Madison introduced the Bill of Rights.
The Founding Father s took to the Magna Carta as a historical precedent, after the Parliament
adopted their own Bill of Rights in 1689. Some of these rights written by the Parliament can be
seen in America s Bill of Rights, such as: due process of law, unlawful imprisonment, and the ban
on excessive bail (2*). The Bill of Rights outlines ten amendments, all which are still the backbone
of the American nation. Throughout the years, many have attempted to alter or completely banish
different Amendments, but they have all held strong after more than two hundred years. The First
Amendment protects freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of press. It also allows
the freedom to petition, and freedom to peacefully assemble (2*). The First Amendment can be seen
as the most important; something almost all American s know as their true right, and it is still put
to the test in daily life of the twenty first century. Protecting one s speech allows freedom of
expression, and identity. It gives American s the opportunity to be individualized, and unique.
Freedom of religion has allowed over three hundred different denominations to be practiced in this
country, and the freedom of the press allows American s to share their stories and opinions with the
country. Without

Initially there is a close up shot of Matthew McConauhey s face while he says It s not about

The True Lessons Of 1984 By George Orwell
1984 Articles The True Lessons of 1984 and Why 1984 Is a 2017 Must Read both agree that
George Orwell s novel 1984 is a warning against socialism and government control. Both articles
also believe that more people should read 1984 because times are changing and it could be
relevant for people to realize the warning signs of government control and prevent it. Also there
has been a link to President Trump s election and sales in this particular novel, so it is clear that
some are driven to think that with Trump as president this is where America is headed.
Kellyanne Conway, counselor to President Trump, has created a new phrase, alternative facts .
Many people are taken back and believe alternative facts are an example of modern Newspeak, a
term described in George Orwell s novel 1984. A statement was given by Sean Spicer, the White
House Press Secretary, claiming that Trump s inauguration had the largest audience to ever
witness the inauguration, a claim that was easily proven wrong, Conway calls it an alternative fact,
in reality it s just false and does not make Mr. Spicer, the person who speaks for the country at
times, look smart at all. If we lived in a world like Oceania where we weren t able to discredit
alternative facts and were forced to believe whatever we were told, even if we knew better, we
would be forced to accept this as a fact, not being able to call out this falsehood. What came to
mind as I read the first article, The True Lessons of

Symbols are used to represent something else. They can range from a red octagon representing a
stop sign to a fish representing Jesus. They give depth and entice imagination and expressive

Symbols and symbolism can be found all around in language, in art, and in literature [PAR].
Language, in and of itself, is a bunch of symbols combined in a way to represent ideas and
physical objects. In art, an artist can use symbolism to portray an underlying message behind his or
her painting. Symbolism, within irony, plot, characters, etc., is used in literature [SAS]. In the

Throughout the novella, Melville gives characteristics to Billy that symbolize Jesus. In the
beginning of the story Melville relates Billy to a Saint Bernard dog, self consciousness he
seemed to have little or none, or about as much as we may reasonably impute to a dog of Saint
Bernard s breed (11). Ironically, the Saint Bernard breed, not only by protecting people, is very
apt to save people which correlates to Jesus being sent to save all people from their
sins[COMBO]. With Billy s innocence and being enclosed in his bud form, he is negligent to
the evil in the world until he meets Claggart. One to whom not yet has been proffered the
questionable apple of knowledge parallels the story of Adam and Eve and how they were
unaware of the evil around them until they ate the apple from the tree God forbade them to (11).
Claggart represents the evil and is the ultimate downfall and cause of Billy s own death. Billy,
because he killed Claggart, is hanged [PER]. Captain Vere, the captain of the ship Billy is
aboard, is symbolic to Pilate who condemned Jesus even though he did not personally believe in
the accusations. Captain Vere sentenced Billy to be hanged and Billy s last words were God
bless Captain Vere! (80). This is symbolic to how Jesus was able to forgive the even the people
who falsely condemned him just as Billy did. Although Billy shows multiple symbolic qualities to
Jesus,

The loggerhead sea turtle, Caretta caretta, is a threatened species with a highly migratory behavior
and shifting habitat requirements depending on maturity (NMFS and USFWS 1998). The
loggerhead nesting grounds are typically in warm temperate regions (NMFS and USFWS 1998).
In the original listing from USFWS (1978), the loggerhead sea turtle was listed as threatened
throughout all of its range. The document goes on to state that one of the main threats to the
loggerhead sea turtle was that it was being harvested for the shell or as food; the eggs were

Figure 1. Loggerhead Observed Bycatch. This graph shows data collected on bycatch rates in
SEAMAP analysis data set in the Stock Assessment of Loggerhead Sea Turtles. From NMFS 2001.
Nesting habitat degradation is an anthropogenic threat to the loggerhead sea turtles. These threats
include coastal development, erosion control barriers or beach armoring, artificial lighting,
pollution, removal of native vegetation, and vehicle and pedestrian traffic (NMFS and USFWS
2007). Some solutions include protecting and managing turtles on nesting beaches, monitor coastal
construction, implement lighting regulations, screen artificial lighting with vegetation, and impose
regulations on beach armoring (NMFS and USFWS 1998). Predation is an important threat to
consider in nesting areas for the loggerhead. Many places have depredation to protect the eggs and
hatchlings against predators such as feral dogs, raccoons, and foxes (NMFS and USFWS 2007).
The future outlook for the loggerhead turtle has been studied using two analyses, one looked at
counts of nesting females and the other analysis was a stage based population model done to look
at the anthropogenic mortalities with respect to the vital rates of the species (Conant et al. 2009).
Using these analyses, it was determined that for the North Atlantic Ocean DPS there was a greater
likelihood of quasi extinction for the Northern Gulf of Mexico

Even today, New Orleans still has many French qualities, New Orleans was once France s territory.

Speech On Harmony In Diversity
Based on Oxford Advanced Learner s Dictionary, diversity is the state of being varied or simply
we can say diversity means variety . Diversity is a part of our life. Without diversity, everything
will keep to be same. Everyone will have same hair colour, same type of intrest, same clothes and
the worst, everyone will do the same thing, everytime, everywhere! Can you seriously imagine that?!
If this really happend,I m very sure, without any doubt , the world will be so boring . To me ,
diversity is like the variety colours of rainbow. We know well that without the colours, the beautiful
rainbow will never exist. To me, that is one of the reasons why harmony in diversity must be
nurtured and cherish.
When I was trying to understand this topic, the first question coming to my mind is,which country

Adult Development Attachment Analysis
Adult Development Interview: Attachment Across a Life Span The notion of attachment and the
attachment theory are primarily associated to John Bowlby, who s articulation of attachment
diverged significantly from all previous theories concerning the importance of social and emotional
bonds formed by a child. The propensity to search for contact with a care giver was not a derived
from inclination, but subsisted as a primary and permanent drive (Broderick Blewitt.2015).
Essentially, the attachment theorychallenged theories of social learning, along with psychoanalysis.

Deployment and the Military Family
Deployment and the Military Family
Amanda Meadows
SOC 101
Susan Fouriner
August 6, 2010
Deployments are a difficult time for military families. Deployment of a loved one affects the
whole family. The service member may worry about how his family may fare without him or even
miss milestones in his children s lives. The spouse has to function as a single parent and take on
responsibilities left behind by the service member. The children may suffer from behavioral
problems and not adjust well to having a parent deployed.
Few studies have been done to examine the affects of deployment on military families. There are
many hardships faced by military families. Unless you have experienced the demanding lifestyle of
the families you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Speaking from the perspective of a military spouse, my opinion is this; we are proud of our service
to the United States as a family. The sacrifices that have been made are worth keeping our children
and fellow citizens safe. We are a living and working part of the organism called society.
The military family may very well fit into the conflict perspective. The military family is constantly
battling to protect the power of the nation from other nations. Families are a constant state of
conflict with each other. The service member deploys. The children begin to experience behavioral
problems. The spouse takes on extra roles acts as single parents.
With military families in a constant state of conflict there are now research groups doing studies
to find out what the effects of deployment are on the whole family. As these groups release their
findings we can offer families resources to help combat the conflicts of deployment. Some
resources now being offered to improve quality of life are parenting classes adapted to military life
style, child care, and mental health resources. Operation Purple Camp is one example of the studies
that is helping military families. The program gave children to meet other children like them. It also
surveyed the families on several different occasions to gather data (http://www.rand.org/pubs

Christian Persecution in Nigeria
Christian persecution by Muslim extremists in (mainly) northern Nigeria is and has been a
serious problem for several years. The main contributors to this issue are the Islamic extremist and
Muslim purist organization, Boko Haram. According to Religion Today, over 3000 people have
been killed since Boko Haram began it s insurgency. Murders and jihads are a regular occurrence in
Nigeria, with new reports seemingly coming out every day of another terrorist attack or mass
shooting. With government being unsupportive of Christians and the constant persecution by
extremists, the outlook has seemed bleak for a very long time, but quite recently the announcement
of NASOC (Nigerian Army Special Operations Command) things could be starting to look up for
the persecuted.
Although Boko Haram is the most associated group with Christian persecution in Nigeria,
Christians face many other threats as well. The government denies them basic facilities such as
wells, schools, and of course, does not provide labor or funds for the building of churches. Apart
from the government, there have also been emerging signs that al Qaeda may have ties with Boko
Haram. Before late 2013, Goodluck Jonathan had addressed concerns that the United States of
America labeling Boko Haram a Foreign Terrorist Organization would draw more attention to them,
possibly drawing support from other Muslim extremist groups. In light of the links between al

challenge the decidedly patriarchal perception of norms within Victorian culture in terms of
sexuality to reconstruct the Christian idea of redemption.

Article Critique Of The Social Work Arena
SOWK 503
Assignment #1: Article Critique
Antonio Gallegos
08/28/2014
Cynthia Rollo Carlson, MSW, MA, LICSW
What are the main points of the article? The main points to this article were how to incorporate
various concepts, and strengths perspective within all theories in the social work arena. One must
combine theory and perspective to explain a situation or concept. Having a definite concept to each
theory, and perspective will help one to understand all its entities to each situation. Theory and
perspective fall under a larger umbrella with many entities helping to find a solution to a specific
matter or a vast concern.
According to Dybicz (2011) While much literature has been written on the strengths perspective
since its inception, an ongoing project is further elaboration to clear up misconceptions and
misapplications. Much of the confusion arises from the strengths perspective s embrace of
postmodern thought, and hence, is reflective of the broader debate between modern and
postmodern thought currently occurring in social work (para. 1).
What does the article offer that is unique, interesting, and/or important? The article offers many
interesting, unique and important information with a great history lesson as well. The author
talks about the beginnings of social work and the way one viewed a social worker, as well as
each social worker, saw things through his or her own lens or in this case him or her perspective.

Escapism In 1984 By George Orwell
Both Orwell and Salinger use escapism to present both protagonists as lacking identity as they both
want to get away from their issues. Winston does this by escaping his issues without addressing
them, resulting in him becoming someone who fully supports the totalitarian regime. The only way
for him to express his subversive thoughts is through his dreams where O Brien states we shall meet
again in the place where there is no darkness . The continuous repetition of this quote throughout
the novelmakes it seem like a mantra, portraying the need for society to be a place where people
can let their thoughts and feelings out into the light and no longer be repressed. And may refer to
an emergence of a free society, On the other hand, the quote

Heroism, Magic and Retribution in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit
A fantasy is an imaginary world where all things imaginable can be brought to life. J.R.R Tolkien
portrayed fantasy through his use of skilled craftsmanship and a vivid imagination, which was
presented in each piece of literature he wrote. In Tolkien s two stories The Hobbit and The Lord of
the Rings we see the theme of fantasy brought to life through three essential elements, heroism,
magic and retribution. Heroism is shown through the character s courage and bravery in situations
where conflict arises and this enables them to be seen in a new light. Magic is a form of
extraordinary power seemingly through a supernatural force; it is used in a combination of combat

As a child this character encountered Smaug for the first time while fleeing the ruination of their
city; now even though Bard was overcome with the fear that every mortal has when they are
near one of these tremendous beasts, he was determined to stand his ground due to the love he
had for their small town. He was able to accomplish this impossible task because a small thrush
perched on his shoulder and told him of the one weak spot of the dragon, the hollow of its left
breast. Bard then inflicted death upon the terrible Smaug with his last arrow and was nearly killed
himself by the tremendous weight of the beast in the process, but he jumped out of the way and
into the water just in the nick of time. With a shriek that deafened man, felled trees and split stone,
Smaug shot spouting into the air, turned over and crashed down from high in ruin. (229)
A character that displays the traits of heroism is one who overcomes the odds through the use of
unique and valuable qualities; this remains just as true in The Lord of the Rings as it does in
The Hobbit. One truly heroic act occurred when Gandalf the Great, determined to defend the
fellowship took on a Balrog, this huge, bat like source of evil stood on the bridge to freedom and
did battle with the poor mage. Gandalf, stricken with fear caused the bridge to collapse and with it
fell the Balrog. However, with one last effort

Human Trafficking in Cambodia Essay
Human Trafficking in Cambodia Imagine a four year old girl growing up in contemporary
Cambodia. Each morning she wakes up miles from home, homesick and scared. She is forced to
beg for money for the brothel that she belongs to, and all of her earnings go straight to her master.
Then, that night, about seven men come to the brothel. These men, some as old as fifty, often pay
as little as two dollars to partake in sexual intercourse with these school aged children. The toddlers
enslaved in the horrific sex trade are forever stripped of their purity, making human traffickinga

Girls are abused and beaten regularly, and the government condones these actions as if they are not

against human trafficking, although the problem still heavily influences the country. To begin with,
in Cambodia, human trafficking has been a pertinent problem for the past two decades, mainly
because of myths, poverty, and traditions. In the country, a tradition often surfaces about men
having a great desire to have sexual intercourse with those who are pure and young because it will
remove all of their sins. The myth is that when men had sexual relationships with virgins, it would
grant them luck and good health. For this reason, an abundance of pedophiles used to visit

the command of pedophiles for prepubescent girls, brothels are targeting those younger and

South Carolina Descriptive Essay
South Carolina Stepping out of my silver 2008 Nissan Altima, the blistering heat is impossible to
ignore. Feeling the moist humidity of the air along with the aggressive beating down of the sun
almost immediately draws sweat. A crisp breeze washes over me, bringing forth the aromatic scent
of fresh pine. The red dirt road brings an unforgettable memory of wrecking bikes and drifting four
wheelers.
Seeing aquatic blue lake house and the large, screened in, cedar wood deck reminds me of the time
my mother, stepfather, and I would invite our local friends over. We would watch the South
Carolina Gamecocks play football and grill out on the large, black, charcoal grill that sat in front of
the deck itself. The house was perfect; neither too big nor too small. Though it was built with wood
painted with the distinct blue, it stood on a brick foundation.
The deck was the second most used asset to the house besides the living room as far as
entertainment. No matter how bad the rain was or how perfect the weather could be, we would
always reside here when we had a football game to watch. We had a large, cedar table in the middle
of the deck so that we could have enough room for multiple people to have a spot. The chairs we
picked for this table were also cedar wood with burgundy red cushions.
From the sliding door entrance on the deck, the house opened to a large living room connected to
a dining room in the far left corner. The soft, short cut carpet was the same color blue as

Short Run And Long Run Effects
Short Run and Long Run Effects In the short run, both global demand and supply of oil are
relatively inelastic because it is difficult for them to make large adjustments to price changes in a
short period of time. When oil price rises, oil consumers, such as manufacturing firms and
households, may not be able to reduce their demand for oil immediately. For example, individuals
still need to drive to work and manufacturing firms with long term contracts still need to run
machinery to meet target output. Similarly, an increase in oil price would not stimulate oil supply
in the short run. Additional supply generally requires the exploration of new reserves and
construction of new infrastructure for delivery which require substantial... Show more content on

Simultaneously, traditional manufacturing sectors would suffer from rising input costs and
reduced competitiveness in the international market. The net effect would be a decrease in total
real exports. Moreover, the reallocation of resources, labor and capital would occur in favor of
oil industry. The extent of these long run effects would depend on the magnitude of initial price
shock and the duration of price increases. Impacts of Rising Oil Prices on Canadian Output A
significant increase in oil price would have little impact on Canadian overall output but large
regional and sectoral implications. The oil producing provinces would benefit from rising
income while the oil consuming ones would suffer due to the higher cost of living and
production. This would also lead to reallocation of capital and labor across energy and other
industries. Potential impacts are expected to be more pronounced in the long run than in the
short run because of relative inelasticity of oil demand and supply in the short run. Canada is the
world s fifth largest oil producer, with daily production of more than 3.6 million barrels in 2015
(Statistics Canada). Despite large national production, Canada only produces about 5% of world
s total daily production and thus does not have large influencing power on the international oil
price. Since February 2016, oil price has shown an upward trend. It soared from USD$29.44 per
barrel in February 2016 to USD$54.45 per barrel in February

Tudor Economy 1541
The reign of the first two Tudors spanned across the years 1485 to 1547. Through these years, the
economy of England had been changed and faced extreme difficulties numerous times. The
statement that the economy remained weak through the reign of the first two Tudors is strongly
valid. The statement that the economy of England remained weak throughout the reign of the
first two Tudors is to a large extent valid. The economy often fluctuated, especially alongside
changes in the population. When the throne was passed to Henry VII, it was in a considerably
terrible state the Black Death of the 1400s had wiped out a good chunk of the population, and
those who survived then had to also face the War of The Roses 1455 2485, which also claimed a
lot of lives. Consequently, the spread of illness and disease damaged agricultural output, which
would ve kept the English economy at its weakest for both peasant and landowners. However, by
the accession of Henry VIII the population had shot back up to around 2.3 million in 1524, and then
rapidly increased from there. In 1541 the population had hit 2.7 million. This rapid growth in
population, coupled with extreme poverty, insufficient harvests and lowering wages hit the

Humans Cause Climate Change Essays
Two thousand scientists, in a hundred countries, engaged in the most elaborate, well organized
scientific collaboration in the history of humankind, have produced long since a consensus that we
will face a string of terrible catastrophes unless we act to prepare ourselves and deal with the
underlying causes of global warming.
Al Gore
Many misinformed people believe that extreme climate change is a natural process; something that
human activities have nothing to do with. They cite events such as the Ice Age and believe that
these events are part of a natural Earth cycling. Therefore, they happen despite anything that
humans do. A common misunderstanding of the climate system characterizes it like a pendulum.
The planet will warm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basic scientific concepts show that this view is naive and incorrect. The forces of the Earth do not
work so that there are equal balances in the temperature chances in the world, so that they average
out to be a comfortable room temperature. For example, the troposphere (the lowest part of
theatmosphere) is warming, but the levels above, from the stratosphere up, are cooling, as less
radiation is escaping out to space. This rules out cycles related to the Sun, as solar influences would
warm the entire atmosphere in a uniform fashion. The only explanation that makes sense is
greenhouse gases (Climatesight 1). Furthermore, it is clear that it is not the whole atmosphere that
is heating up, only the troposphere is. The rest of the atmosphere above that is, in turn, cooling
down. Clearly, the climate change is much more complex than this predicted equilibrium.
This perspective accepts that climate change is happening, it agrees with the data explaining that
the existing climate patterns are extremely abnormal. However it denies the fact that humans cause
it as seeks other blame for it. This model simply states that climate change is a natural process and
nothing to worry about because of the Ice Age. It rejects any idea that human activities and their
carbon footprint could cause these problems. In fact, it argues that the Earth would be experiencing
the same climate changes even if humans did not populate it. However, the scientific data clearly
rejects these

Evolution Of Affirmative Action
Affirmative Action which is also known as equal opportunity is the federal government s program
to counteract discrimination. The intent was to foster diversity, and compensate groups that have
historically been discriminated against such as minorities, women, and other underrepresented
groups. Although Affirmative Actionwas intended to right wrong, it has become one of the most
controversial issues of the twentieth and twenty first centuries. All three branches of our
Government have been involved in the evolution of Affirmative Action.
First of all, Congress led the way for Affirmative Action by approving the 14th Amendment in 1866.
The 14th Amendment forbade states to deny citizens equal protection under the law. Affirmative

This is when Plessy v. Ferguson where the Supreme Court ruled that the 14th Amendment did not
prohibit separate but equal facilities in America. This ruling paved the way for states to establish
segregation policies that were followed for decades. Then in 1954, the Supreme Court overturned
Plessy by way of Brown v. Board of Education. This decision marked the end of Jim Crow and the
beginning of the policies aimed at promoting diversity in schools, the workplace, and other public
facilities. Affirmative Action was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2003 in Grutter v. Bollinger.
Then in Gratz v. Bollinger, the Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional for colleges to
enforce racial or gender quotas. The well known Bakke case showed flaws in Affirmative Action
and brought about the term reverse discrimination. Ala Bakke, a white male, was denied
admittance to a medical school when less qualified minority applicants had been accepted. The
Supreme Court ruled against colleges that practiced inflexible quota systems in their Affirmative
Action programs. The Court said the college had discriminated unfairly against a white applicant.
As time has gone on more injustice was uncovered in regard to Affirmative Action. In the Wygant
case in 1986 minority employees were allowed to keep their jobs while white employees with
seniority were laid off. On the other side of the spectrum, however, was the Paradise case in 1987
where the Alabama Department of Public Safety refused to promote minority employees above
entry level positions even though the court ordered them to. However, the landmark case
surrounding Affirmative Action was heard in 2003 involving the University of Michigan
Affirmative Action policies. This decision upheld Affirmative Action in higher education. The
Court declared that rave can be one of =many factors that colleges use in selecting their students.

Making Decisions Today For Health Care Tomorow Essay
Making Decisions Today For Health Care Tomorow
Today, 80 85% of Americans die in medical institutions. Of those, 70% require decisions about
whether to apply, withhold, or withdraw medical treatment (Makar 58). Due to this ever increasing
number, the right to die is one of the most popular and controversial topics in medicine today. The
issue comes down to personal beliefs and ethics and the fact that there is so little clear cut
legislation on this topic confuses it even more. Advance Directives provide, in theory, for self
determination and put the patients mind at ease with the knowledge that they have decided for
themselves the extent of health care that they wish to receive. Also, for the family, the process of

Prolongation of a patients life started to reflect on the physicians ability. The relationship
between this and huge advances in medical technology in the 1960s that introduced new
machines that could be used to temporarily restore health led to several problems. One is that
these machines began to be put to use even in cases where there was no hope of recovering with
the previous quality of life. Second, even physicians who didnt want to use these machines sort of
got trapped into using them in emergencies, when it was unclear what the outlook for the patient
was. Once the machines are hooked up, it is difficult for legal reasons to get them turned off
(Lieberson 27). In this way advance directives are economically wise because they eliminate a lot
of unwanted, but previously unavoidable expensive health care (report, Abram et al. 56 57).
LIVING WILLS
In 1976, California passed the first living will act. The legislators felt that for terminally ill patients,
the loss of dignity and the amount of pain and suffering that they endured in receiving life
sustaining treatment often outweighed the medical benefits that they received (Lieberson, 13).
Another problem that the state hoped to correct for with the development of advance directives is
that there wasnt any legal accountability on the medical profession to heed patients requests toward
life sustaining procedures.

Urban Population And Employment Distribution And Change
This chapter examines previous research on intra urban population and employment distribution
and change. The classical monocentric theory of urban development (Alonso 1964; Milles 1972;
Muth 1969) involves early studies of intraurban population distribution, with strict assumptions
about the concentration of jobs at the city center. Researchers have attempted to extend this
theoretical model to the more realistic case of a polycentric urban structure (Anas and Kim, 1996;
Kloosterman and Musterd 2001). The most widespread criticism is that this model is not
operational, because it is difficult to apply empirically. In the 1970s and 1980s, spatial interaction
models have attracted the attention of many scholars. The Lowry model involves static interactions
between employment and population and generates an instantaneous city. Its extensions include the
TOMM (considers the time element) and BASS (focuses on housing markets) models. Later, the
ITLUP model has been proposed to integrate a Lowry type sub model with a transportation network
assignment sub model. Recent work has concentrated on combining spatial interaction factors with
an econometric model, starting with Steinnes and Fisher s analysis of the relationship7 between
population and jobs at the metropolitan level. Carlino and Mills then extended this model to the
county level, and introduced a lagged parameter that made the model dynamic. Boarnet s and Deitz

American Dance Critique
Every year the dance program puts on a fall and spring concert. The dance program has two
different companies called Meredith Dance Theatre and Meredith Jazz and Tap Company. On
Friday and Saturday, November 18th and 19th, I got the pleasure of stage managing for the
modern dance company at Meredith, MDT. As a stage manager, it allows me to see the show
every night, but also attend rehearsals and techs in preparation for the show. As a stage manager I
am in charge of calling all the cues for the show, calling lights, curtain and sending dancer to
places through a headset from the front of house. The show on Friday began at 7:30 pm. It had
several pieces choreographed by students and three pieces choreographed by either faculty or
adjuncts.

Analysis Of The Book Freakonomics By Steven D. Levitt...
Freakonomics, written by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J, Dubner, is divided into six main
sections that all show the similarities between a variety of completely different things. By utilizing
statistics and history, the authors are able to create a book that shows that everything is correlated
together and that everything is influenced by these statistics. Throughout the book, the authors
compare totally different statistics together and show how these totally different statistics, can be
linked together. In the first chapter, school teachers and sumo wrestlers, the authors show how an
incentive are able to influence individuals. The definition of an incentive, is urging people to do
more of a good thing, and less of a bad thing (17). However, incentives are sometimes able to
influence an individual into doing the wrong thing, in order to obtain the incentive. The book
states that the top three incentives are: economic, social and morals (17). These incentives cause
people to sometimes preform a wrong action, in order to obtain any of these incentives. The
authors used the statistics of the school teacher in Chicago to show an example of how people can
be influenced the wrong way. The statistics data was able to prove that a large portion of teachers
in Chicago were cheating with their students. This statistic was observed by administering a
standardized test and to receive the scores the first time. Then the researchers would readminister
the same test and if there

Reflections on Society in Literary Works
In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s I Only Came to Use the Phone and William Golding s Lord of the
Flies characters experience dehumanization through isolation from society. While some might
believe that Marquez and Golding use the trapped characters actions to criticize society, it they
are actually doing the opposite. All immoral behavior done by characters in these literary works
are done in the absence of society, showing that the authors are actually portraying society as the
stabilizing element of our morality, and the structure of our humanization. Without society, for
characters like Maria, Jack, Roger and Ralph, the essence of humanity is lost and the line
between man and beast blurred. In the beginning of both stories there is still a great presence of
society. In Lord of the Flies, directly after the plane crash the boys set up a mini society on the
island. The vote for a leader and choose Ralph, much like we do in society today. The text even
states that This toy of voting was almost as pleasing as the conch. (Golding, 22) This of course
shows how the boys crave and choose structure and civility over chaos and anarchy... at first.
Voting is something that we do in a democratic society and the conch itself is a symbol of
democracyand order. Both of these things please the boys, which demonstrate that the structure of
society is keeping them humanand civilized. In the beginning of I Only Came to Use the Phone the
main character, Maria is torn away from society

Hatchet By Gary Paulsen Summary
The book hatchet was one of the first best books that Gary Paulsen has crafted. He takes a young
boy Brian Robeson . Paulsen puts him in a scenario that nobody would ever want to endure. He
first gets on a plane that is bound for The Great North, where he will meet up with his father, but
his mind is uneasy with the news of The Secret that his mother is having an affair. The pilot of
the plane seems to be a nice man gives Brian a brief flying lesson. After, what must have been
hours the pilots shoulder starts to ache and he continued to rub it. The pain moved down into his
arm and started in his stomach. At first Brian does not think it is very serious, but as the pilot
begins jerking in his seat it becomes clear that he is having a heart

Over Switching
In Andy Molinsky s article Adapt a New Culture, but Don t Go Too Far , over switching is a
common behavior among individuals who make mistakes when they are pushing themselves too far
to match a particular culture. It is inevitable which can affect individual s life or career (Molinsky).
International students and workers are told that individualism is an important part of the culturein
the United States. While they are trying to adapt to that culture, mistakes might happen because of
their unappropriated language and behavior. The best way to minimize the effect of over
switching is to learn from interacting with people from the culture that you are trying to adapt
into. In the article, Cheng, a Chinese professional, hears from others that it is important to express
his ideas to colleagues because it can show his leadership potential. Believing it can make

Mistakes are common especially in discussions in class. In my painting class last semester, our
class had a group critique for our first project. One Chinese girl, who had never had critique
before, was being too straightforward to show her opinions about another group member s

told her that her language was very inappropriate and unprofessional. What she did is trying to
show self promotion, which is necessary in U.S college study. However, it is also important to
choose a better way to present that. She could use some better words to show her opinion and give

Compare and Contrast Between Rwanda and Darfur Genocide,...
The analysis of the genocides that took place both in Rwanda and Sudan s Darfur region exhibit
some similarities as well as differences. The character of violence was similar in both cases, but in
Rwanda the violence was more intense, participatory, and extraordinary. The violence in these two
places took place in an environment that had experienced civil wars. It was a period of political
transition which was further aggravated by ethnic nationalism and a conflict of ethnic populations
that were living in close proximity. However, in the Rwandan genocide, the state is more
centralized, compact, and effective. This is what explains the intensity and variation. The
international response to these genocides through observers emphasized on... Show more content on

In Rwanda, the IC was not concerned with stopping the genocide just like in Darfur. This makes the
two cases similar. These comparative claims are accurate although the claims need some close
scrutiny. For instance, the comparisons do not provide the degree of similarity and differences in
the two instances. Form the international perspective, we are not able to tell in what way the
response in Rwanda is different or similar to what took place in Darfur (Straus).
Why the US and the UN what are the similarities and differences of how they acted in each
situation.
The UN and the US government are accredited for deploring conflict situations as well as
contributing humanitarian aid, and this is what these two organizations did in Rwanda and
Darfur. However, the UN did not do anything to punish or prevent the genocides that took place
in these two countries. The US government promised to support the peace talk s agreement in
Darfur and hold the perpetrators accountable for their acts. It never kept that promise since
nothing has been done. So far, the UN s Security Council has also failed in its peace keeping
mission effeorts, and is instead pressuring Sudan with words only. No solid steps have been made
to bring the wrong doers into justice (Shapiro).
In Rwanda, in 1994, the United Nations ignored the call to act fast, and only stepped up after
hundred days, after close to 800,000 people had lost their lives.

When IRP amp; PPP do not hold, the NPV using different computation method will be different.
However, even with a significant depreciation, the NPV for this investment is always positive,
which means it is always positive. In case of depreciation, we could reduce the currency effect by

How Has Elvis Changed America
During Elvis career, he had a dance move which he called hip shaking, it symbolized Liberation
for the staid America of the 1950 s (Mark). In making his dance move in such a way, the fans

dance move of liberation to America. The significance of the hip shaking shows a freedom of
expression, in being equality in America. The genre Rock and Rollwas a freedom of enjoyment and
excitements. He was happy to give people things; the look on people s faces when he gave them
something was his joy, because he d had nothing (Duffett M. 87). Elvis was delightful role model to

Analyzing Robert Frost s Mending Wall
Analyzing Robert Frost s Mending Wall Robert Frost was born in San Francisco, California on
March 26th in 1874. Robert Frost s personal life was filled with grief and insecurities. When he
was 11, his father died of tuberculosis, his mother died of cancer years after, and his sister was
confined into a mental institution where she also later died. Elinor and Robert Frost had six
children together. One of their sons died of cholera, one son committed suicide, one of their
daughters died after being born due to puerperal fever, and another daughter of theirs died three
days after birth. Frost s wife developed breast cancer and died of heart failure in 1938. With all of

The main theme in Robert Frost s poem is the description of two very distinct and unique
lifestyles between two neighbors and the idea of maintaining civility and neighbor like barriers.
However, one of the neighbors feel that there is no need to have this wall. The barriers are made
from each neighbor s own perspective. One neighbors barriers are built out of tradition and
habits and the other neighbors perspective reflects reasoning. What I get from the poem is the
actual portrayal of how people literally and metaphorically build walls and barriers between each
other due to some form of tradition or reason. In Mending Wall Frost expresses his thoughts and
questions of boundaries and their worth through a numerous number of literary devices. Frost uses
a variety of literary techniques and devices throughout his poem such as tone, imagery, figure of
speech, diction, form of structure, metrical variation, and symbolization, to help us understand his
feelings and argument upon the barrier between the two neighbors. To generalize Frost s poems,
they are about a specific place, America s New England because Frost spent years as a farmer in
New England. Mending Wall narrates a story drawn from New England. In the poem the narrator, a
New England farmer, contacts his neighbor in the season of spring to rebuild the stone

  • 2. Margibi County In Monrovia METHODS Context and community description Home to more than 200,000 people, Margibi County is the second most densely populated county in Liberia. Located in the South Central region of Liberia, it borders Montserrado county, home of nation s capital of Monrovia. Residents here experience extreme rates of poverty most without access to essential assets, electricity, running water, or flushable toilets (LISGIS citation). Margibi County residents also experience substantial barriers to accessing healthcare. The Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo Information Services report that between 56 69% of Margibi residents live more than 40 minutes from the nearest health facility (citation needed), a fact that had exacerbated the challenges associated ... Suspected cases included any person that had experienced symptoms consistent with EVD (e.g., high fever, vomiting) or had come in contact with persons that had suffered symptoms of EVD or a dead or sick animal. Probable cases are defined as those suspected cases evaluated by a physician. Confirmed cases are those suspected cases that were confirmed positive for EVD antigen through laboratory testing. • 3. As You Go Creating A Missional Culture Of Gospel Centered... Book Review: As you Go Creating a Missional Culture of Gospel Centered Students Alvin L. Reid explains and covers multiple ideas, issues, subjects, and solutions pertaining to missional student ministry. Throughout reading the book it is evident that Reid is not only extremely passionate about the missional aspect of the student ministry, but also the reasoning behind this aspect. Reid s chapters recognize the issues that many student ministries deal with and how the ministry can go from just an event to a mission ministry. Throughout this book review I will summarize the content and highlight the key components that Reid speaks about. In regards to what Reid explains about a missional student ministry I will speak of how it will affect... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also claims, This book is not intended to focus on what is wrong in student ministry, however, but to offer a new (or renewed) way of thinking (Reid 18). Here Reid clearly states what the purpose of this book is and not to necessarily fix the ministry, but rather enhance it and provide a new way of thinking about missions. Reid then goes on throughout chapter one to explain in detail the purposes in missional ministry and why. In this section Reid explains that the students today as a generation are leaning toward challenges and making a difference. He even goes as far as defining this word, Missional: to see the world with the eyes of a missionary, to think like a missionary and to relate to others as a missionary with a message of the gospel. In short, life is ministry. Make disciples as you go (Reid 27). Reid goes on explaining the missional shift that has happened in the western church and how this can impact the student ministry as a whole. This idea of missional ministry in the student ministry is simply not in perspective and Reid covers this. He goes throughout many chapters explaining how the bar has been set too low and why this missional aspect is not being brought up in student ministry. Reid then centers in on the gospel in chapter two and what this means as it impacts the missional ministry. The main point of this is so that one understands that the reasoning of the gospel is not solely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The girls are only eleven and they re taken away from their families. Their families are the ones that want them gone. I boarded the cruise ship and I walked in the suite. There were a huge group of boys walking around. The cruise shipis very warm and it s very cozy. The boarding event takes about three hours. The girls have to line up and they have to get a baggage check. I can t wait to go on this journey. I just feel unloved by my parents. The boys are there to help the girls. They re outcasts too, but they re much older than the girls. They re either sixteen or seventeen. There s a front desk and the workers used their computers. The workers are boys and they make sure the girls are ok. It s been two hours since the boarding event started. I reached my room and it was a luxury suite. I shared the room with another girl. Her name is Bailey Holland. Her dad is rich and I heard she is very smart. Bailey greeted me and I smiled. Hi, Bailey. I said. Hi, Sarina. Bailey said. You know my name? I said. Of course, the workers told me you would be my roommate. They showed me your picture. You are so pretty. Bailey said. Thank you. I said. • 6. Executive Officer Chief Executive Officers Chief Executive Officers (which will be referred to as CEOs for the remainder of this paper) is arguably the most prestigious position an individual can hold in the business world. There is no disputing the high level of responsibility necessary to manage the operations and resources of any company, while also being the key figure between the company s board of directors and the stakeholders which are effected as a result of the company s actions. Despite the high level of responsibility, it is worth asking a question that has been up for debate not just in recent years, but for the past several decades, which is whether or not CEO compensation can be justified? Just to put into perspective how much one of Canada s highest paid CEOs makes,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The short answer is no. I firmly believe that today s CEOs are overpaid as a result of the use of stock options as a pay initiative; rewarding CEOs with huge severance packages regardless of whether they bring success to the company or not; and because they are essentially overpaid managers Stock Options are one of the Main Culprits for Overcompensation of CEOs If we break down how CEOs are generally paid we may look at their base salary, which can range from approximately $300,000 upwards to between 4 and 5 million for Canada s top executives. What the average person may not be informed about is the additional compensation that is available to be earned from bonuses, stock options, and other payments on top of the base salary. Canada s Highest earning CEO in 2015, Gerald W. Schwartz of Onex Corporation, made $86.5 Million of his total $87.9 Million salary from other such forms of compensation. Stock options are typically used as a form of compensation because they offer the CEO an incentive laden form of salary that in theory will make the CEO make decisions in the best interest of the shareholders, and if share prices go up they too are rewarded. Stock options are truly a no lose situation for the CEO, because they are not required to pay for the options and in the event of share price ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay on Social Expectations of Women Kimberly Griffis Eula Thompson English 101Tues/Thurs 9:30 The Effect Social Expectations of the Nineteenth Century Had on Women Living in That Time Period The behaviors and desires of women the nineteenth century were impacted strongly by the social expectations of their time. Kate Chopin s character, Louise Mallard, from The Story of an Hour , Emily Grierson from A Rose for Emily by Willliam Faulkner, and the character Roselily from Alice Walker s Roselily are all examples of women restricted by the time they live in. Women in the nineteenth century were expected to get married and to take care of their husband as well as cooking, cleaning, and looking after their children. Emily wanted a family and a husband but back then marriages were more for convienence and not for love. Emily wanted love and this kept from marrying someone she did not have feelings for. After Emily s father died she no longer had to live up to his expectations but because he never let her leave the house she was unfamiliar with the new, modern ideas and did not embrace them because she was so used to the ideals her father had instilled her. Another expectation of women was that they were not to handle money. A group of men came to Emily for taxes and she denied, saying I have no taxes in Jefferson. It was a man s job to take care of all money transactions because they worked for the money and because women could not buy land in the nineteenth century, taxes were left to the men. Emily kept saying she had no taxes because she still lived up to the social expectation that women could not handle money. In the story the ladies were gossiping about Miss Emily and one of them said Just as if a man any man could keep a kitchen properly. It was a woman s job to keep the kitchen and the ladies disapproved that Emily was not running her kitchen. Men and women in the nineteenth century were raised up to get married and never take a lover. Women, and their families, were expected to go to church, so they knew that killing was wrong. • 8. Christianity And Birth Control Human life is a sacred right that all individuals possess. It is unlawful and mortally sinful to take away or prevent the life of an infant. Human life is sacred all men must recognize that fact, said Pope John XXIII in defense of the unborn (John XXIII). To be truly pro life, one must accept that doing so does not only refer to being opposed to abortion, but also being opposed to birth control and contraception. The Catholic Church has professed for two thousand years that the conjugal act is a gift from God to married couples for the sole purpose of procreation. This gift is abused and perverted by humans; who view conjugal love as a means of pleasure rather than what it truly is. Abortion, contraception and birth control are three methods... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The popularity and convenience of birth control has led to a higher popularity of abortions. Historically, Christianity has always condemned birth control and the contraceptive mentality for 2,000 years until the Lambeth Conference of the Anglican Communion in 1930 (Carlson). Many other Protestant communities jumped on the bandwagon and embraced this modern and destructive practice. The Roman Catholic Church has stood firm in her tradition and doctrine during these dark times. His Holiness, Pope Paul VI, condemned birth control and contraception as immoral in the papal encyclical Humanae Vitae. Consequently, it is a serious error to think that a whole married life of otherwise normal relations can justify sexual intercourse which is deliberately contraceptive and so intrinsically wrong (Paul VI). Anyone who claims to be pro life, yet embraces contraceptives, is truly flattering himself. God struck Onan dead in Genesis for performing coitus interruptus, spilling his seed on the ground, which is a severe punishment indeed. Imagine the anger of God toward those who interfere with the means to create life that he gave humanity. Using birth control is telling God that man controls creation, not Him. It is intrinsically blasphemous and disobedient in nature. Sexual immorality is condemned by the Bible and birth control certainly falls within this category since it is a means to misuse intimacy for the purpose of pleasure, rather than procreation. Christian and non Christian married couples should use sex for procreation instead of using each others bodies just for pleasure. Pleasures are so readily available in this world, and now God s own generative process is being corrupted by modern medicine. It is God who remains the sovereign Master of life. We are obliged to accept life gratefully and preserve it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is used by parents, organisations such as schools and corporations and governments to restrict what their citizen s access and post online. Internet censorship has occurred since the early days of the public internet, where governments around the world have attempted to address the issue of illegal material, political propaganda, harmful material or content deemed unsuitable for children. In this particular instance, internet censorship failed to work to some extent due to the cooperation of combined companies and government. However, other techniques are used in order to restrict search engine results. Governments use different techniques to censor and restrict the internet. As stated previously the Great Firewall of China, also known as the Golden Shield Project is considered the advanced Internet censorship regime in the world and the largest in the world. The Chinese Government utilises many techniques in the filtering and restriction of content. The most common techniques are IP Blocking, DNS filtering and redirection, URL filtering, Packet filtering and Connection reset . In light of these filtering and censorship methods, citizens of china have managed to circumvent their government s censorship by accessing the internet through proxies and VPN s. A proxy re routs a users request via another server, so that it appears that the request is coming from that server. The website being access sends the data back to the proxy and the proxy forwards it to the user. The proxy will only secure traffic via the internet browser. Unlike a Proxy, a VPN encrypts all traffic, not just the web browser. Programs like TOR (The Onion Router) are designed to allow users to navigate around the firewall and encrypt their traffic. • 10. The Bill Of Rights Of The American Nation Virginia s document ultimately influenced the Bill of Rights being created for the federation as a whole, rather than state by state. In December 1791, James Madison introduced the Bill of Rights. The Founding Father s took to the Magna Carta as a historical precedent, after the Parliament adopted their own Bill of Rights in 1689. Some of these rights written by the Parliament can be seen in America s Bill of Rights, such as: due process of law, unlawful imprisonment, and the ban on excessive bail (2*). The Bill of Rights outlines ten amendments, all which are still the backbone of the American nation. Throughout the years, many have attempted to alter or completely banish different Amendments, but they have all held strong after more than two hundred years. The First Amendment protects freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of press. It also allows the freedom to petition, and freedom to peacefully assemble (2*). The First Amendment can be seen as the most important; something almost all American s know as their true right, and it is still put to the test in daily life of the twenty first century. Protecting one s speech allows freedom of expression, and identity. It gives American s the opportunity to be individualized, and unique. Freedom of religion has allowed over three hundred different denominations to be practiced in this country, and the freedom of the press allows American s to share their stories and opinions with the country. The True Lessons Of 1984 By George Orwell 1984 Articles The True Lessons of 1984 and Why 1984 Is a 2017 Must Read both agree that George Orwell s novel 1984 is a warning against socialism and government control. Both articles also believe that more people should read 1984 because times are changing and it could be relevant for people to realize the warning signs of government control and prevent it. Also there has been a link to President Trump s election and sales in this particular novel, so it is clear that some are driven to think that with Trump as president this is where America is headed. Kellyanne Conway, counselor to President Trump, has created a new phrase, alternative facts . Many people are taken back and believe alternative facts are an example of modern Newspeak, a term described in George Orwell s novel 1984. A statement was given by Sean Spicer, the White House Press Secretary, claiming that Trump s inauguration had the largest audience to ever witness the inauguration, a claim that was easily proven wrong, Conway calls it an alternative fact, in reality it s just false and does not make Mr. Spicer, the person who speaks for the country at times, look smart at all. If we lived in a world like Oceania where we weren t able to discredit alternative facts and were forced to believe whatever we were told, even if we knew better, we would be forced to accept this as a fact, not being able to call out this falsehood. Language, in and of itself, is a bunch of symbols combined in a way to represent ideas and physical objects. Throughout the novella, Melville gives characteristics to Billy that symbolize Jesus. In the beginning of the story Melville relates Billy to a Saint Bernard dog, self consciousness he seemed to have little or none, or about as much as we may reasonably impute to a dog of Saint Bernard s breed (11). Ironically, the Saint Bernard breed, not only by protecting people, is very apt to save people which correlates to Jesus being sent to save all people from their sins[COMBO]. With Billy s innocence and being enclosed in his bud form, he is negligent to the evil in the world until he meets Claggart. One to whom not yet has been proffered the questionable apple of knowledge parallels the story of Adam and Eve and how they were unaware of the evil around them until they ate the apple from the tree God forbade them to (11). Claggart represents the evil and is the ultimate downfall and cause of Billy s own death. Billy, because he killed Claggart, is hanged [PER]. Captain Vere, the captain of the ship Billy is aboard, is symbolic to Pilate who condemned Jesus even though he did not personally believe in the accusations. Captain Vere sentenced Billy to be hanged and Billy s last words were God bless Captain Vere! (80). This is symbolic to how Jesus was able to forgive the even the people who falsely condemned him just as Billy did. Although Billy shows multiple symbolic qualities to Jesus, ... The loggerhead sea turtle, Caretta caretta, is a threatened species with a highly migratory behavior and shifting habitat requirements depending on maturity (NMFS and USFWS 1998). The loggerhead nesting grounds are typically in warm temperate regions (NMFS and USFWS 1998). In the original listing from USFWS (1978), the loggerhead sea turtle was listed as threatened throughout all of its range. The document goes on to state that one of the main threats to the loggerhead sea turtle was that it was being harvested for the shell or as food; the eggs were considered a desired food item and protein source. Loggerhead Observed Bycatch. This graph shows data collected on bycatch rates in SEAMAP analysis data set in the Stock Assessment of Loggerhead Sea Turtles. From NMFS 2001. Nesting habitat degradation is an anthropogenic threat to the loggerhead sea turtles. These threats include coastal development, erosion control barriers or beach armoring, artificial lighting, pollution, removal of native vegetation, and vehicle and pedestrian traffic (NMFS and USFWS 2007). Some solutions include protecting and managing turtles on nesting beaches, monitor coastal construction, implement lighting regulations, screen artificial lighting with vegetation, and impose regulations on beach armoring (NMFS and USFWS 1998). Predation is an important threat to consider in nesting areas for the loggerhead. • 16. Speech On Harmony In Diversity Based on Oxford Advanced Learner s Dictionary, diversity is the state of being varied or simply we can say diversity means variety . Diversity is a part of our life. Without diversity, everything will keep to be same. Everyone will have same hair colour, same type of intrest, same clothes and the worst, everyone will do the same thing, everytime, everywhere! Can you seriously imagine that?! If this really happend,I m very sure, without any doubt , the world will be so boring . To me , diversity is like the variety colours of rainbow. We know well that without the colours, the beautiful rainbow will never exist. To me, that is one of the reasons why harmony in diversity must be nurtured and cherish. Speaking from the perspective of a military spouse, my opinion is this; we are proud of our service to the United States as a family. The sacrifices that have been made are worth keeping our children and fellow citizens safe. We are a living and working part of the organism called society. The military family may very well fit into the conflict perspective. The military family is constantly battling to protect the power of the nation from other nations. Families are a constant state of conflict with each other. The service member deploys. The children begin to experience behavioral problems. The spouse takes on extra roles acts as single parents. With military families in a constant state of conflict there are now research groups doing studies to find out what the effects of deployment are on the whole family. As these groups release their findings we can offer families resources to help combat the conflicts of deployment. Some resources now being offered to improve quality of life are parenting classes adapted to military life style, child care, and mental health resources. Operation Purple Camp is one example of the studies that is helping military families. The program gave children to meet other children like them. The main contributors to this issue are the Islamic extremist and Muslim purist organization, Boko Haram. According to Religion Today, over 3000 people have been killed since Boko Haram began it s insurgency. Murders and jihads are a regular occurrence in Nigeria, with new reports seemingly coming out every day of another terrorist attack or mass shooting. With government being unsupportive of Christians and the constant persecution by extremists, the outlook has seemed bleak for a very long time, but quite recently the announcement of NASOC (Nigerian Army Special Operations Command) things could be starting to look up for the persecuted. Although Boko Haram is the most associated group with Christian persecution in Nigeria, Christians face many other threats as well. The government denies them basic facilities such as wells, schools, and of course, does not provide labor or funds for the building of churches. Apart from the government, there have also been emerging signs that al Qaeda may have ties with Boko Haram. Before late 2013, Goodluck Jonathan had addressed concerns that the United States of America labeling Boko Haram a Foreign Terrorist Organization would draw more attention to them, possibly drawing support from other Muslim extremist groups. Short Run And Long Run Effects Short Run and Long Run Effects In the short run, both global demand and supply of oil are relatively inelastic because it is difficult for them to make large adjustments to price changes in a short period of time. When oil price rises, oil consumers, such as manufacturing firms and households, may not be able to reduce their demand for oil immediately. For example, individuals still need to drive to work and manufacturing firms with long term contracts still need to run machinery to meet target output. Similarly, an increase in oil price would not stimulate oil supply in the short run. Additional supply generally requires the exploration of new reserves and construction of new infrastructure for delivery which require substantial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simultaneously, traditional manufacturing sectors would suffer from rising input costs and reduced competitiveness in the international market. The net effect would be a decrease in total real exports. Moreover, the reallocation of resources, labor and capital would occur in favor of oil industry. The extent of these long run effects would depend on the magnitude of initial price shock and the duration of price increases. Impacts of Rising Oil Prices on Canadian Output A significant increase in oil price would have little impact on Canadian overall output but large regional and sectoral implications. The oil producing provinces would benefit from rising income while the oil consuming ones would suffer due to the higher cost of living and production. This would also lead to reallocation of capital and labor across energy and other industries. Potential impacts are expected to be more pronounced in the long run than in the short run because of relative inelasticity of oil demand and supply in the short run. Canada is the world s fifth largest oil producer, with daily production of more than 3.6 million barrels in 2015 (Statistics Canada). Despite large national production, Canada only produces about 5% of world s total daily production and thus does not have large influencing power on the international oil price. Al Gore Many misinformed people believe that extreme climate change is a natural process; something that human activities have nothing to do with. Basic scientific concepts show that this view is naive and incorrect. The forces of the Earth do not work so that there are equal balances in the temperature chances in the world, so that they average out to be a comfortable room temperature. For example, the troposphere (the lowest part of theatmosphere) is warming, but the levels above, from the stratosphere up, are cooling, as less radiation is escaping out to space. This rules out cycles related to the Sun, as solar influences would warm the entire atmosphere in a uniform fashion. The only explanation that makes sense is greenhouse gases (Climatesight 1). Furthermore, it is clear that it is not the whole atmosphere that is heating up, only the troposphere is. The rest of the atmosphere above that is, in turn, cooling down. Clearly, the climate change is much more complex than this predicted equilibrium. This perspective accepts that climate change is happening, it agrees with the data explaining that the existing climate patterns are extremely abnormal. However it denies the fact that humans cause it as seeks other blame for it. This model simply states that climate change is a natural process and nothing to worry about because of the Ice Age. All three branches of our Government have been involved in the evolution of Affirmative Action. First of all, Congress led the way for Affirmative Action by approving the 14th Amendment in 1866. The 14th Amendment forbade states to deny citizens equal protection under the law. Affirmative Action laws, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is when Plessy v. Ferguson where the Supreme Court ruled that the 14th Amendment did not prohibit separate but equal facilities in America. This ruling paved the way for states to establish segregation policies that were followed for decades. Then in 1954, the Supreme Court overturned Plessy by way of Brown v. Board of Education. This decision marked the end of Jim Crow and the beginning of the policies aimed at promoting diversity in schools, the workplace, and other public facilities. Affirmative Action was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2003 in Grutter v. Bollinger. Then in Gratz v. Bollinger, the Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional for colleges to enforce racial or gender quotas. The well known Bakke case showed flaws in Affirmative Action and brought about the term reverse discrimination. Ala Bakke, a white male, was denied admittance to a medical school when less qualified minority applicants had been accepted. The Supreme Court ruled against colleges that practiced inflexible quota systems in their Affirmative Action programs. The Court said the college had discriminated unfairly against a white applicant. As time has gone on more injustice was uncovered in regard to Affirmative Action. In the Wygant case in 1986 minority employees were allowed to keep their jobs while white employees with seniority were laid off. On the other side of the spectrum, however, was the Paradise case in 1987 where the Alabama Department of Public Safety refused to promote minority employees above entry level positions even though the court ordered them to. However, the landmark case surrounding Affirmative Action was heard in 2003 involving the University of Michigan Affirmative Action policies. This decision upheld Affirmative Action in higher education. The Court declared that rave can be one of =many factors that colleges use in selecting their students. They said the ... • 40. Making Decisions Today For Health Care Tomorow Essay Making Decisions Today For Health Care Tomorow Today, 80 85% of Americans die in medical institutions. Of those, 70% require decisions about whether to apply, withhold, or withdraw medical treatment (Makar 58). Due to this ever increasing number, the right to die is one of the most popular and controversial topics in medicine today. The issue comes down to personal beliefs and ethics and the fact that there is so little clear cut legislation on this topic confuses it even more. Advance Directives provide, in theory, for self determination and put the patients mind at ease with the knowledge that they have decided for themselves the extent of health care that they wish to receive. Also, for the family, the process of watching their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prolongation of a patients life started to reflect on the physicians ability. The relationship between this and huge advances in medical technology in the 1960s that introduced new machines that could be used to temporarily restore health led to several problems. One is that these machines began to be put to use even in cases where there was no hope of recovering with the previous quality of life. Second, even physicians who didnt want to use these machines sort of got trapped into using them in emergencies, when it was unclear what the outlook for the patient was. Once the machines are hooked up, it is difficult for legal reasons to get them turned off (Lieberson 27). In this way advance directives are economically wise because they eliminate a lot of unwanted, but previously unavoidable expensive health care (report, Abram et al. 56 57). LIVING WILLS In 1976, California passed the first living will act. The legislators felt that for terminally ill patients, the loss of dignity and the amount of pain and suffering that they endured in receiving life sustaining treatment often outweighed the medical benefits that they received (Lieberson, 13). Another problem that the state hoped to correct for with the development of advance directives is that there wasnt any legal accountability on the medical profession to heed patients requests toward life sustaining procedures. • 42. Urban Population And Employment Distribution And Change This chapter examines previous research on intra urban population and employment distribution and change. The classical monocentric theory of urban development (Alonso 1964; Milles 1972; Muth 1969) involves early studies of intraurban population distribution, with strict assumptions about the concentration of jobs at the city center. Researchers have attempted to extend this theoretical model to the more realistic case of a polycentric urban structure (Anas and Kim, 1996; Kloosterman and Musterd 2001). The most widespread criticism is that this model is not operational, because it is difficult to apply empirically. In the 1970s and 1980s, spatial interaction models have attracted the attention of many scholars. The Lowry model involves static interactions between employment and population and generates an instantaneous city. Its extensions include the TOMM (considers the time element) and BASS (focuses on housing markets) models. Later, the ITLUP model has been proposed to integrate a Lowry type sub model with a transportation network assignment sub model. Recent work has concentrated on combining spatial interaction factors with an econometric model, starting with Steinnes and Fisher s analysis of the relationship7 between population and jobs at the metropolitan level. Carlino and Mills then extended this model to the county level, and introduced a lagged parameter that made the model dynamic. Boarnet s and Deitz s models further extended this approach to the census tract ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Analysis Of The Book Freakonomics By Steven D. Levitt... Freakonomics, written by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J, Dubner, is divided into six main sections that all show the similarities between a variety of completely different things. By utilizing statistics and history, the authors are able to create a book that shows that everything is correlated together and that everything is influenced by these statistics. Throughout the book, the authors compare totally different statistics together and show how these totally different statistics, can be linked together. In the first chapter, school teachers and sumo wrestlers, the authors show how an incentive are able to influence individuals. The definition of an incentive, is urging people to do more of a good thing, and less of a bad thing (17). However, incentives are sometimes able to influence an individual into doing the wrong thing, in order to obtain the incentive. The book states that the top three incentives are: economic, social and morals (17). These incentives cause people to sometimes preform a wrong action, in order to obtain any of these incentives. The authors used the statistics of the school teacher in Chicago to show an example of how people can be influenced the wrong way. The statistics data was able to prove that a large portion of teachers in Chicago were cheating with their students. This statistic was observed by administering a standardized test and to receive the scores the first time. Then the researchers would readminister the same test and if there ... • 45. Reflections on Society in Literary Works In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s I Only Came to Use the Phone and William Golding s Lord of the Flies characters experience dehumanization through isolation from society. While some might believe that Marquez and Golding use the trapped characters actions to criticize society, it they are actually doing the opposite. All immoral behavior done by characters in these literary works are done in the absence of society, showing that the authors are actually portraying society as the stabilizing element of our morality, and the structure of our humanization. Without society, for characters like Maria, Jack, Roger and Ralph, the essence of humanity is lost and the line between man and beast blurred. In the beginning of both stories there is still a great presence of society. In Lord of the Flies, directly after the plane crash the boys set up a mini society on the island. The vote for a leader and choose Ralph, much like we do in society today. The text even states that This toy of voting was almost as pleasing as the conch. (Golding, 22) This of course shows how the boys crave and choose structure and civility over chaos and anarchy... at first. Voting is something that we do in a democratic society and the conch itself is a symbol of democracyand order. It was a period of political transition which was further aggravated by ethnic nationalism and a conflict of ethnic populations that were living in close proximity.
