Essay about Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
After reading explications of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, a student is likely to come away with
the impression that the Franklin is the critics favorite punching bag. To the average reader in the
modern English speaking world, the Franklin comes across as surprisingly fair minded and level
headed, noteworthy as the man kind and inventive enough to resolve the marriage cycle with a tale
of decency and openness. The critics, however, often depict the Franklin as a man primarily
concerned with upward mobility, finding in his tale a number of remarks intended to win over the
nobility and subtly assert his own claim to a kind of nobility. The contrast between the fawning
Franklin of certain critical approaches and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marxist critics look for social and economic themes in a work, ones of which the author was
unaware because the authors own consciousness is affected by the system of production in which
he or she lived (157). This critical stance is particularly fitting when one approaches the Canterbury
Tales: Chaucer s conscious emphasis on social class, combined with a modern reader s lack of
familiarity with the economic conditions of Chaucer s work, requires almost any explicator of
Chaucer s work to indulge, to some degree, in Marxist criticism.
In her essay The Franklin as Dorigen, Susan Crane blends Marxist and feminist approaches to
point out links between the Franklin and the heroine of his tale. The heroine of romance, she notes,
occupies an insecure position in society. Noble by birth, and therefore superior to the common run
of people, she is nevertheless still a woman, in a society which marginalizes women (Crane 238
239). The superior/subordinate position of Dorigen, Crane says, is an echo of the Franklin s own
unclear status as a possible member of the gentlemanly class. Like the woman of nobility, the
Franklin stands at the boundary between authority and submission (240).
For Crane, a key element in the Franklin s choice of tale is his role as vavasour. Small land
holders of this sort often appear in Old French romances, depicted as peaceable, hospitable men
disinclined to

Essay on Killing Chickens
Killing Chickens
Betrayal and loneliness are two of the hardest emotions to encounter in life. Nevertheless, at
some point everyone will experience and be forced to deal with them. This is made even harder
when they are caused by someone you love and trust. In Meredith Hall s Killing Chickens , she
uses various literary devices such as metaphor, simile, and imagery as she processes her husband s
affair and describes having to kill chickens. Hall s literary nonfiction is based on the happenings of
a specific day that was truly hard to handle after being deceived by ones she loved:
I was killing chickens. It was my 38th birthday. My brother had chosen that morning to tell me that
he had caught his wife my best friend, Ashley in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Better hide my surprise. Just as Hall identifies the chickens and her children, she explains, I
turned her on her floppy neck again and again. Corkscrewing her breathing tube, struggling to
end the gasping. Just as Hall is making many attempts to kill the chicken, she is unable to do it
until it finally gives in. This is the same way her husband has been treating her for the past ten
years with all the rumors and suspicions until finally she reached a breaking point. The author
uses a number of different literary devices to describe the hardship she feels such as metaphor,
simile, and imagery. The author revels that her life and the chickens are not very different. I felt
her body break deep inside my own chest (6). The way the chicken has to be killed after being
loved for so long is the same way Hall feels about being with her husband for so long and then
having him cheat on her and leave her. Guilt and fear tugged me like an undertow (7). The
chickens are being killed by the one that loved them and in the same way; Hall is killed by the
one she loved: her husband. The author uses a numerous number of vivid imagery to describe the
struggle she is going through with her husband leaving and her having to kill the chickens. Her
shiny black beak opened and closed, opened and closed (5). The rumors and suspicions that the
author s husband was cheating on her would come and go, until it reached a breaking point

Batman Films Vs. Batman
Batman is one of the most well known superheroes in the world. Since his first appearance in
Detective Comics #27 in 1939, he seems to have just gotten more famous even after over 75
years. However, the Batman that audiences see now is not the same Batman that first appeared in
1939. Batman had a solid moral compass and could very clearly see the line between right and
wrong. In most of the early films and serials, he is cheesy to a point where it becomes hard to
watch. Throughout the years, Batmanfilms have become increasingly more sinister and menacing,
when they used to be comical and cheesy in the early films. Although there are numerous versions
of Batmanand Batman movies, I have chosen to analyze the following films from different... Show

Later in the film, Batman s origin story is shown and young Bruce Wayne does witness the deaths
of his parents. This film is dark visually because Gotham is dark and dimly lit. That makes the film
seem more menacing. There is far more crime in 1989 Gotham than there was in 1966 Gotham, and
the criminals actually appear threatening. They look rough and brandish weapons, instead of just
fist fighting. As in most Batman films, Joker adds some danger. Jack Nicholson s portrayal of
Joker definitely makes Joker seem crazier and more of a loose cannon. Jack Nicholson played
crazy Jack Torrance in The Shining (1980) only nine years before playing Joker in Batman. It
could be argued that audiences were so scared of his insane mannerisms as Torrance that their
fear carried over when watching him as Joker in Batman. Nicholson does portray Joker as being
actually crazy and unpredictable, which keeps the audience on their toes. Nicholson has crazy
eyes and does not seem to be someone who is warm and cozy, in fact, he seems the opposite. As an
actor, he plays characters that are intense and a little frightening, but that makes him a good actor to
play a villain because he has that villainous reputation. The Dark Knight is arguably the darkest
Batman film to date. This film is influenced There are five deaths

Steve Jobs And Bill Gates
Imagine living in a world without internet, Ipods, or cell phones. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates took
on a long battle with technology to make sure society was provided with all its gadgets. In the
mid 1970 s Bill Gates created the best creation of all time, PC company (Moisescot, 2017). This
creation changed the world as society knows it, but was nothing compared to the way computers
are today. Steve Jobswas born in San Francisco on February 24, 1955. He was put up for adoption
by Abdulfattah Jandali and Joanne Schieble and quickly adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs. In the

the computer itself (MCHABU, 2017). That is what spiked him to continue on what he will
pursue in future events. Gate and his friends from school spent no time at all to find ways
around the computers files and caused the system to crash several times and broke the security
system (MCHABU, 2017). Gates experimented more and more with computers all through his
high school years. He was one of few that could figure out systems that people have never seen

The Turn 2 Foundation and the American Dream
The American Dream is defined as the opportunity for every U.S. citizen to achieve success through
hard work, determination, and initiative. Derek Jeter s Turn 2 Foundation was created to help
children grow safely and successfully into adulthood and become the leaders of our next generation.
The Turn 2 Foundation promotes the American Dream to kids and students because the foundation
teaches kids to work hard to achieving their dreams while laying the groundwork to a healthy
lifestyle so kids can succeed and achieve their dreams the right way. The leaders of the Foundation

Work hard and never make excuses. (Izaguirre 2). The road to achieving the American Dream is
difficult and long one and Derek Jeter s Turn 2 Foundation promotes all the ideas necessary to
doing it.
The Jeter s Leaders program was designed to promote key principles of the Turn 2 Foundation
and achieve their goals. Some of the Turn 2 Foundation s principles include, morality, being
trustworthy, and leading by example which is preached to the Jeter s Leaders throughout their
journey. The goals that have been developed through the Jeter s leaders include the promotion of
a healthy lifestyle, succeeding academically, and giving the leaders experiences that will help
them develop into adults and professional leaders when they go into college and onwards. This is
where the American Dream plays in because the American Dream is defined as the equal
opportunity for every American to succeed through hard work. Since the Turn 2 Foundation
promotes these ideals to the Jeter s Leaders, they are taught how to succeed later in life. The Jeter s
leaders are promoted all of these ideas through various different projects that give the students an
initiative to work hard for their communities and become better people overall.
The Turn 2 Foundation launches various different events over the year to promote the ideas to
help children. One of these events is the Social Change Project, which was launched at Siena
College in 2015. The whole idea of the Social Change Project is

Sociological Analysis Of Concrete Angel
Sociology Analysis over Concrete Angel
Zachary Gosnell
Southeast Missouri State University
SO 102 October 12, 2017
Abstract
The lyrics of Concrete Angel has meaning to it. The lyrics focus on child abuse. Child abuse is a
problem that may children all over the world face. Child abuse can be in the form of verbal and/or
physical abuse, bullying, and so on. The lyrics shows us how the obvious signs of abuse can be
seen but bystanders choose to ignore what is going on. The lyrics of Concrete Angel relates to
sociology in many ways. The lyrics relate to three perspectives of sociology. Those perspectives are
conflict, interactionism, and functionalism. The main focus of this paper is the characterization
portraying the societal issue of child abuse.
Introduction
The song I chose to do my analysis on is Concrete Angel written by Stephanie Kay Bentley and
Rob Crosby and sung by Martina McBride. I felt the song has meaning and I would be able to
analysis it. The message of the song exudes to it listener to child abuse, or any relating form of
abuse. The lyrics talk about how victims of abuse show obvious signs of physical or mental
harm that bystanders choose to ignore. Concrete Angel is about a little girl who is trapped in a
life of turmoil. The song describes her short innocent life. Her life is lived in vein as neglect and
abuse plagues her. The adults around her seem to be aware of her anguish but like most people

Rhetorical Analysis Of John Warner s Kill The 5...
Statement of Rhetorical Analysis On February 22, 2016 author John Warner published an article
on Just Visiting entitled Kill the 5 Paragraph Essay. Warner creatively talks about how rudimentary
of a structure this type of essay holds. Writers are locked inside a cage of regulations and
guidelines making them unable to write the essayas they please, but rather having to piece together
regulated sentences and paragraphs because that s what they have been told would score high on
certain test questions. The article targets people of all kinds, but is more directed towards early
college aged students. The purpose behind this article is to get them to expand their horizon,
disregard all the regulations they have been previously taught and start to write in a much more
open minded sense.
Analysis of John Warner s Kill the 5 Paragraph Essay Simply spoken, the aging youth are facing
a very large dilemma when it comes to making the transition from high school to college level
courses. As many have been taught in the past, just as many will be taught in the future, the
commonly known 5 paragraph essay is quickly becoming an eyesore in the writer s community.
John Warner published an article in which he deploys a full on assault to persuade others to do
away with this type of essay format all together. In his article Kill the 5 paragraph Essay Warner
establishes his credibility, paints an imaginary picture of the 5 paragraph essay and uses logical and

Food Spoilage And Its Effect On The Food Industry
Abstract
The health and economic impact of food spoilage to both consumers and producers are
enormous, it has a detrimental effect on the consumer s health and negatively impacts the bottom
line of the producers. In the past monitoring of food quality are done using a sensor which
observes changes in temperature, releases of gases which are not effective and every year million
health cases result from food spoilage. This paper introduces an intelligent monitoring system that
uses NFC based sensor that has the capability to detect release gases from spoiled food through
the change in PH. This system uses a PH sensor and Near Field Communication (NFC) device
which is a subset of RFID.
Introduction
Food spoilage is the process in which food product becomes unconsumable to the human with
changes in taste, smell and physical form. These changes are due to some factors like air, oxygen,
light, temperature, and microbial growth. Lack of adequate food monitoring technology during
transit of product usually result to compromising on food quality and safety. The innovation of
wireless method of monitoring food quality will ensure consumer health and safety and reduce
the cost of a producer. This experiment discussed in this paper if improved on a large scale will
help reduce the hazards of food spoilage both to the consumer and the producer. The existing
methods of determining the quality of food is using sensors to observe the change in temperature,
secretion of enzyme and

How Ifrs Defines A Contingent Liability And Provide An...
Introduction
For decades, countries have designed their individual accounting standards principle based, rules
based, tax oriented, or business oriented. Globalization has led to the greater needs with regards to
harmonizing the standards (Kimmel, 2013). By late 1990 s the dominant standards were the IFRS
(International Financial Reporting Standards) and U.S. GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting
Principles). Thus, both the standard setters namely; FASB (Financial Accounting Standards Board)
and IASB (International Accounting Standards Board) launched a convergence project prior to the
IFRS being essentially adopted by several countries. Measures are being taken to reduce likely
impacts the frameworks would have on financial statement and reduction of last minute changes
(Kimmel, 2013).
IFRS 10 2: Explain how IFRS defines a contingent liability and provide an example.
It refers to a likely obligation a company may incur mostly depending the outcome or results of a
future event (Shamrock, 2012). Additionally, the outcome of a present situation is considered to
be uncertain which is anticipated to be tackled by a future event. It is recorded in the books of
account if the contingency is likely and the extent of liability can be projected. Product warranties
and outstanding liabilities are common examples (Kimmel, 2013). If instance, if a company is
sued for infringement and the damages payable is $55 million and expects to lose the case, the
amount is recorded in the balance

Analysis of the State of the New Media Art
The article is an analysis of the state of the new media art. The new media uses digital
communication to express its artwork and Muir (2002) choses certain works as illustrative
examples of their format. Their spectrum was so called old, middle aged and modern digital art
that spanned the 19th century to the present moment. Their first example was June Paik s
magnet TV 91965). Paik integrated music, video,a nd sculptural forms of objects in order to
convey modern relationship to TV. Intending to convey the omnipotence of TV, Paik s
aforementioned sculpture consisted of a large magnet on top of a television set. The magnet was
manipulated by hand to create abstract patterns of light inside the monitor. The work was
deliberately constructed in a simple way so as to arouse discussion and thought regarding the all
powerful influence and, some would say, insidiousness, of TV. Nicholas Schoffer is called the
Father of Cybernetics and Video Art. He is another example of creators of media Art. Schoffer s
sculptures combining electronics with sculpture included his 52 meter high cybernetics Tower of
Liege , which consisted of mirrors, projectors, microphones, and photoelectric cells. Schoeffer also
produced Microtine Sculptures (1968 1969) that was composed of discs and manipulated by
electronics to produce pulsating light. Robert Adrian s work was in telecommunication. His work
included the world in 24 hours (1982) where artists from international spots converged at

After RDH was taken over by HI, and since it was a Chinese hotel the its relationship with the

The Case Of William Marbury Deserved The Commission Or Not
This case was a case for the ages that challenged the very decision of our newly elected president.
The former President Adam after a grueling election has lost and in order to maintain the legacy of
the Federalist, he began to appoint justices to the Supreme Court. These judges were appointed by
the president and confirmed by the Senate, but unfortunately for these justices, the letters that
confirmed the appointment never reached the potential justices. Adams was working quickly to
push the appointments through, but unfortunately he ran out of time and Jefferson took office.
Jefferson saw the appointment letters on his desk and discarded them. One of the potential justices
was William Marbury and he sued the president for his Supreme Court appointment. His goal was
to have the court to order a writ of mandamus, which if completed, would order a government
official to fulfil their official duties. The Chief justice presented three questions that needed to be
decided by the court. The first issue addressed was whether William Marbury deserved the
commission or not. The court opened the questioned if the law had a remedy for the situation. The
final question was whether the writ of mandamus the appropriate legal action in the case. These
questions were debated and the court confirmed that Marbury deserved the commission, but they
found that the Judiciary Act of 1789 which allowed the court to submit the very writ of mandamus
Marbury needed was unconstitutional. According

Modernism is a Philosophical movement that along with cultural trends and changes arose in the
late 19th century and early 20th century. Modern architecture developed as a result of social and

Along with the industrial revolution the availability of materials such as iron steel and sheet glass

The Purge America and your Mom Desperately Need
The amount of blood shed on United States soil is enough to shower all of the dirty children in
Africa. The rate at which the amount of blood falls onto our land, increases faster than the speed

crimes are committed left and right. Family backstabbing family, friends killing friends, your mom
shoving Big Macs down her throat. America has evolved into a nation filled with bloodbaths.
Go big or go home. I believe we can solve the high murder rates and high cholesterol by holding all
citizens of the United States to a purge. It would be cheaper to kill everyone in a day and move on,
rather than spending an entire year filing homicide cases, crying over one dead person at a time.

mail, and/or being noisy, you can annihilate them on March 14, with no legal consequences! With
.003 percent of the world s water being usable left, we have to compete for our lives. To reduce
the number of people on Earth, kill them. Make it a game even, who can slay the most people?
The purge is great for so many reasons, not only does it help end overpopulation, but it would also
help relieve citizens of their sinful desires (regarding murder) and your mother s will to devour
hamburgers. Relieving the inner rages of citizens, would ultimately contribute to a society of lower
crime rate and stronger economy. It is projected that after the purge, unemployment rates would
plummet to 1%! Of course, the less people alive, the better possibility for jobs. For a small
sacrifice of purging once a year, you can prevent tens of thousands from dying in the near future,

Analysis Of To Kill A Mockingbird And The Death Of Innocence
In both the novels To Kill a Mockingbird, by Lee Harper, and The Death of Innocence, by Mamie
Till Mobley, a parallel is evident between the themes of the works, as well as, their courageous
characters. The fictional character Atticus Finch describes fortitude with stating It s when you
know you re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter
what ( Lee 112). His ideals and fearless persona show similarities to that of Mamie Till Mobley,
who, in The Death of Innocence, fights for the civil rights movement after her son is murdered.
Mr.Finch s definition of bravery fits that of the figure Mamie Till.
The unfortunate manslaughter of Emmett Till was the spark that ignited an inferno of civil rights

Deceit is no shade of the rainbow, is is a facet of human life. Affirming this fact audibly is brash,
like his choice to give Tom the best defense possible. The lawyer s gallant defense of Tom
Robinson displayed his progressive convictions regarding a colorless courtroom. Mr.Finch is
entirely aware of the prejudice environment surrounding him, and the disgrace his choice to
defend Tom has brought upon his children from their peers. His campaigning attempt for Tom is
long and difficult, and based on the quote above, he is aware victory will not result. His
reasoning is explained when he says, The one place where a man ought to get a square deal is in
a courtroom, be he any color of the rainbow, but people have a way of carrying their resentments
right into a jury box. ( Lee 295 ) Atticus s occupation revolves around the belief that fair trial is
mandatory, and a racially biased jury should not be able to destroy this. Mr. Finch chooses to
make his lifestyle revolve around this idea, and consequently is active in enforcing it in his
community. This aspect of life is similarly mirrored in the way Mamie Till Mobley approached
living after the death of her son. Mamie traveled to various conferences,

The Basic Elements Of Communication
Basic elements of communication must be meet to have success. Great communication is the key
in creating a more connected system for the administration managements. Karl Weick defines the
organizational process as, A method to resolve ambiguities through the collective processing of
information (94). Any agency, firm, police, court or correction must use this method to define their
system of communication. Management has the duties of setting boundaries and rules for
communication. This will allow them to function effectively and meet their organizational goals
(Stojkovic, Kalinich, and Klufas). Intra organizational communication and Interorganizational
communication is important when are dealing with a large bureaucracy structure. Intra organization
involves communication within the organization. Members from different sections of the criminal
justicesystem have different roles they must maintain. Every agency has their own unique rhetoric
and perceived ideals. Officers with multiple work related contacts have fewer conflicts because they
have fewer communication barriers to being with. Interrogational communication to interactions
that take place outside of the organizational structure. The 9/11 commission is arguing for more
effective interagency communication and information sharing because of a previous terror attack.
There was a development of a Fusion center, a mechanism for exchanging information and known

Strategies and Plans in Executing Information Security
Introduction
Security has been playing a vital role in every sector. But the security is highly essential factor and
parameter in the field of Computer Networking Information system. Secured transmission of data
between sender and recipient is important for both the organization and its customers. High Point
on the security is very much essential so that appropriate strategies will be introduced, which not
only elevates business management avoiding risks in communication. Hence before implementing
computer information, security is a highly considered factor for both healthy business continuity
and an individual. This security is to be properly strategized before initiating the network. Here we
discuss the factors to be considered relative to the network security, challenges and strategies to be
planned before establishing a computer network.

The Thing on the Stick
The Thing on the Stick What would happen if a group of school boys were stranded on an
island, with no adults? What would they do? These are some of the questions posed in William
Golding s Lord of the Flies, where a group of British school boys are stranded on a small, deserted
island, and where order slowly breaks down into chaos and savagery. Even though the movie
adaption of Lord of the Flies changes many elements of the story, they both still demonstrate the
same theme of evil in humannature.
In the book, there is a scene where Simon is speaking to the Lord of the Flies, who is actually a
pig s head stuck on a stake, and it tells him that he is the evil inside of them all, and he is the
reason why everything is going bad. Simon is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the movie, the pilot of the plane is injured, and the boys are discussing killing him or tying
him up, because they are scared of him. The pilot received a severe head injury when the plane
went down, and has been unconscious for a long while. The boys are scared of him for reasons
unknown, and Simon is the only one that can go near him. A little un said I m scared of him, He
s crazy. We ve got to do something, Ralph responded, Maybe we should tie him down. Jack spoke
now, that or get rid of him. Another child spoke, Come on. He s hurt bad and he has a fever. We
ve got to take care of him. Why bother? Said Roger; He isn t going to make it. We ve got to take
care of ourselves. This was followed by a murmur of agreement. This scene is particularly
important because the boys are presented with a defenseless person, who they are scared of, and
thinking of restraining him or killing him. Even Ralph, who is supposed to be the fair leader,
wants to restrain him, and Jack and Roger want to kill him, to which Ralph offers no opposition.
This reveals evil because they are thinking about murder for the unsubstantial reason that they have
negative feelings for him, and that the pilot is subconsciously reluctant to have the boys near him.
The pilot doesn t want other boys near him because he somehow

Human Impacts That Are Placed On The Beaches And Coast Of...
The topic I have chosen for the assignment is the human impacts that are placed on the beaches and
coast of Warrnambool, namely areas around the Merri Island Sanctuary. This also incorporates
locations including Stingray bay, the breakwater, Shelly beach and Middle Island.
Warrnambool is known for it s many diverse areas of coastline with many unique beaches; this then
brings in various groups of people and tourists in the interest of seeing the beaches or for
recreational water activities to Warrnambool. This tourism is positive for Warrnambool
economically, but can place a negative effect on the beach environment and the ecosystem.
Locations such as the Merri Marine Sanctuary and the area around Shelly beach include a diverse
ecosystem and reef area where many rock pools are noted. (Parks Victoria, 2007) Many people
come down here to look at the rock pools, but this could harm the invertebrates seen in the reef, as
not everyone is aware of this, especially tourists and children. This could include to trampling and
picking up creatures, which puts stress on them, some being more vulnerable, then others. It is
known that in an environment, anything within it should not be moved as to not make a footprint
on that area and within the sanctuary it is not allowed. Within all of these areas, pollution is a huge
impact on the environment, which is clearly noticeable. Plastics and clothing have been noted in
these reef areas that could harm or kill invertebrates. Without humans

New World Capuchin Monkeys
Introduction. In society we have lived most of our lives assuming that monkeys are all the same,
there are no distinguishing factors about them at all except that they climb trees and eat bananas.
However researching about the Capuchin monkeys has taught me many things that make them so
unique from all the other types of monkeys. They are a part of the New World monkeys and have
unique traits about them as well. They are considered to be the most intelligent, and are known to
have the capability to adapt in the wild and captive environments. The physical features of the
Capuchin are that they possess the color black on their arms and legs and tail. While the rest of the

because it s the most ideal object to use. Plus they don t use the stick for a method of finding food,

intelligence than the wild ones, when they insert the stick within the ground they actually take their
time within eating the insects because, they know that they can potentially bite the Capuchin before
they eat them, thus they are more careful within their eating. Plus they are able to understand that
they should remove the leaves or bark from the stick they are using for maximum amounts the

Carbon Dioxide Gas Essays
06.05 Rate and Collision Theory: Assessment Instructions
Investigation of the Rate of a Reaction
Background:
The reaction you will be investigating is the reaction that occurs when an Alka Seltzer tablet is
placed into a given amount of water. Alka Seltzer is an over the counter antacid and pain relief
medication that is dissolved in water before it is ingested. Each tablet contains aspirin
(acetylsalicylic acid), citric acid, and sodium bicarbonate. As the tablet dissolves in water, the
bicarbonate ions in the tablet react with the hydrogen ions from the acids that are also contained in
the tablet. The carbon dioxide gas produced by the reaction is what causes the bubbling that can be
observed.

Be sure to write a detailed procedure for each lab design so that the same procedure can be
followed accurately by anyone who reads it. Include details on the setup, the control of variables,
and how the rate of each trial will be compared.
For each of your two reactions, most of the reactants and products can be difficult to see, and
concentration can be difficult to measure without the proper laboratory equipment. Therefore, it is
recommended that the volume of carbon dioxide gas produced over a given amount of time be
used to help qualitatively compare the reaction rates of each trial. If you have another way you
would like to compare rates of this reaction, feel free to explain it thoroughly in your written lab
procedure.
Be sure your instructions include multiple trials for each factor to help ensure that the results of
your investigation are more reliable.
Discussion and Conclusion:
Answer the following questions in complete sentences.
1.What two factors did you investigate in your procedure, and why did you choose to compare
these two factors?
2.What other factors did you need to control during your investigation? Explain how you controlled
each one in your procedure.
3.What was your prediction about the results of each factor tested in your two lab procedures?
Explain your predictions based on your knowledge of the dissolving process, collision theory, and
reaction rates.
4.In your own words, explain the collision theory,

Hippocampus Glucocorticoid Receptor (HPA)
The overall goal of this paper is to see how epigenomic programming is established and
maintained through behavioral programming, and whether or not it s modifiable or reversible later
in life (specifically adult, post mitotic tissues). The authors hypothesis is that maternal care such as
pup licking and grooming (LG) as well as arched back nursing (ABN) can affect DNAmethylation
of the GR promotor region, exon 1 base 7 promoter, and that these effects can be sustained
throughout adulthood while being associated with differences in hippocampus glucocorticoid
receptor (GR) expression and Hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis (HPA) reactions to stress. The
independent variable in this experiment is the Trichostatin A (TSA) injection/infusion. Trichostatin
A is a Histone Deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor. It is made up of chemical compounds that interfere
with gene expression by removing the acetyl groups from the histones.
Starting with figure 1, the major question that the figure is attempting to answer is how LG ABN
maternal care affects cytosine methylation of the GR promotor and how CpG methylation in the
GR promotor region, exon 1 base 7 promoter differ between high and low LG ABN (maternal
care) groups. It is trying to figure out whether there is a causal relationship between LG ABN and
DNA methylation of the pups and whether or not timing of maternal care/age of the pups have
anything to do with the different levels of DNA methylation. There are both positive and negative
control groups for figure 1. The positive control is the group of offspring that received low amount
of LG ABN from their mothers and show high amounts of C methylation. The negative control is

Marilyn Monroe Tragic Hero
The Tragedy of Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe is a timeless figure, known for her sensual yet innocent charm. Her platinum
blonde hair continues to be a popular trademark today, with other celebrities continuing to imitate
her. She is the image of Hollywood and American perfectibility. However, she was not just a beauty
queen who seemingly had the world wrapped around her finger. She was also a vulnerable woman,
who severely struggled with mental illnesses, neuroticism, and high expectations. Marilyn Monroe
is an epitome of a tragic hero, as she was the victim of a downfall caused by irreparable flaws.
Monroe was born as Norma Jean Baker on June 1st, 1926. In her childhood, a critical stage in life,

These titles may sound flattering to some, and maybe at times she enjoyed them. But her
restrictive Hollywood image only seemed to add to her insecurity and troubles. The sexual
glorification of Monroe stems from the constant exploitation that she has described from her
earlier days in the business. While she both despised and played to this, Marilyn Monroe would
resent being typecast as a not too smart sex symbol and would fight a very hard but ultimately
losing battle to get the public to believe that she was smarter (and less man hungry) than the
women she portrayed on the silver screen ( Ten Things You Might Not Know About Marilyn
Monroe. ). But why did a part of her also accept this? Why did she have this overwhelming need
to satisfy the same people who held her down? She feared disappointing the public who put her
on this pedestal and seeming imperfect. She was said to wash her face up to 15 times a day in
fear of blemishes and sweat ( Marilyn s Beauty and Style. ), and at the 1950s Academy Awards,
she burst into tears. It seems that she failed to give herself the love and appreciation that she
needed. As a result, she mistakenly turned to the camera for

Co2 Expelled Lab Report
Analysis: Using the data from Table 1, calculations were performed to determine how much CO2
was expelled. This data is listed in Table 2. According to the data in Table 2, it is confirmed that
more CO2 was expelled after exercising. While exercising, more oxygen is needed in the body for
energy. Since more oxygenis inhaled, it makes sense that more CO2 is exhaled.
Discussion: The control flask was used to establish a baseline so that the other flasks could be

Descriptive Essay On Weather
The winds outside howled as I played a board game with a friend at school. The rain battered the
windows of the cafeteria, and I assumed that this was just an ordinary storm. Well, I was wrong. My
thoughts about the weather would be forever altered, and I found out just how stunningly
frightening severe weathercan be.
It was just another ordinary day of 5th grade. It was cloudy outside, and we had heard about the
severe weather that might come on the news. We just shooed the precautions away and forgot
about it. That is, until it started storming. Bad idea. I was at my before school program, JCPRD.
I sat with Anna, my best friend, peering out of the large, blue tinted windows at the enraged
clouds outside. They gushed rain and radiated lightning, illuminating our nervous faces. We were
starting to get concerned. The distant, eerie roars of thunder filled our ears as the sheets of rain
spilled from the roof and lashed the building. This seemed bad, but the situation only grew worse.
My heart started to thud faster and louder as I walked to my classroom. The winds were
whooshing louder and louder, and the thunder was growing more and more rapid.
Good morning class, My teacher, Mr. Whalen, said as we all walked in. Today a severe weather
threat has been issued, so be ready if we have to go to a tornado shelter room.

times, we had to go into the bathroom, which I hated. I

Biography of Alexandre Dumas
Alexandre Dumas was a descendant of a nobleman and the son of a general (Benton), and
continued his family legacy by writing about 300 fiction and non fiction books, plus creating six
different periodicals (Benton). His writing styles and characters embody his life experiences as
many writers do, and provides the oppurtunity to look back in time to see parts of French social
culture, for example how its classes were defined and people s opinions on what was acceptable and
what wasn t through use of euphanisms. The main influences on Alexandre Dumas when writing
The Count of Monte Cristowere religion, especially Catholicism, his father, the French
Revolution, the movement of French Romanticism, and a man named Picaud. It is clear that
during Dumas time in France, the Catholic religion was clearly favored in France with articles
like The Concordat of 1815, which Kristen Hosack explains that, The agreement recognized
Catholicism as the religion of the great majority of citizens, and the clergy. (Hosack 32) and also
the French Constitution of 1830, which, although it promised freedom of religion, also gave
compensation to ministers of the Catholic... religion. (Halsall). These two documents were both
publicised during Dumas life and prior to The Count of Monte Cristo, so it is acceptable to say
that Catholicism was the religion of France during this era. Dumas makes constant references to
God in Monte Cristo, and also creates a Christ symbolism with Monte Cristo,

Becoming A Writer
Writing, since I was a kid has been the essence of who I am and who I was. It fun, to look back.
To notice all the little things, all the misspelled words and oddly phrased writings of the years
before now. People change over time, they grow and become something that they never were before
that very second. And over time all the little things, all the time spent doing this and all the time
spent doing many other things just becomes history.
I have heard from many people that to become a better writer you have to read, which is
phenomenally true. You have to explore the different styles and genres if you re going to ever
grow to being a writer. Read non fiction, sci fi, horror, historical fiction, fanfiction, poetry, read
anything you can get your hands on. Some will be great and some won t be, but every chapter is
a new step to take in the path writers take. I remember as a child there were these huge rolling
shelves of books that would be open to read from in the classroom. I dragged one of those
uncomfortable chairs inside and sat down. I d reach up and grab the books surrounding me.
Most devoured and only the best savoured. I still can t believe I remember that from all those
years ago. I have an addiction to it, the creation of lives lived only in a different place, a different
fiction from our own. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Maybe all of us only exist because someone decided to embrace their uniqueness and their ideas?

people are expected to dress modestly, not showing too much bare skin. Public toilets often just a

The Contradiction Of Opposing Regulation
The Contradiction of Opposing Regulation Under public interest theory, regulations exist to protect
consumers, to protect workers, and to protect the rights of the least advantaged. They exist to hedge
against the greed, corruption, and exploitation that can occur in an unchecked capitalistic society.
They attempt to prevent or ameliorate detrimental consequences to individuals and communities.
Granted, this can be seen as an idealistic view of regulation. Exponents of public interest theory
argue that even well intentioned regulation can fail to achieve what it set out to do, and
politicians are imperfect and subject to pressure both by corporations and vocal minorities
(Koopman et al., 2014). Nonetheless, in the United States, these democratically elected local and
federal representatives have put regulations in place that, unless given reason for doubt, are
presumed to reflect the will of their constituents. Therefore, rebelling against regulation is not
simply renouncing the government in some cases, it is renouncing the concerns of the
communities that these companies argue they are improving. Airbnb s $8 million snarky ad
campaign against a housing affordability bill in San Francisco was widely panned as tone deaf.

the loss of their first child in 1815. Mary delivered a baby girl who only lived a few days ( Mary
Shelley. ).The following summer in 1816, while Mary and Percy were in Switzerland with her
step sister Jane Clairmont and their literary companions, Lord Byron, and John Polidori ( Mary
Shelley. ).The group had to entertain themselves on a rainy day by reading a book of ghost stories.
Lord Byron suggested that they all should try writing their own horror stories ( Frankenstein. ). It
was here Mary Shelley began work on what would become her most famous novel, Frankenstein
( Mary Shelley. ). Tragedy hit Shelley when her half sister Fanny committed suicide later that
same year. Percy s former wife, also committed suicide by drowning a short time later. Mary and
Percy Shelley were finally able to wed in December 1816 ( Mary Shelley. ). In 1818, Frankenstein
finally debuted as a new novel from an anonymous author. Many thought her husband, Percy, had
written it since he did compose its introduction, but the book proved to be a huge success ( Mary
Shelley. ).

Netflix Inc Case Study
Introduction: Netflix, Inc., is an entertainment industry that provides millions of customers with a
streaming service to television shows and movies. Netflix was founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings
and Marc Randolph in Los Gatos, California (Hosch). In the late 1990 s, Netflix started to offer an
online subscription service through the Internet, which changed the way we viewed movies and
shows. In the mid 2000 s, Netflix mailed DVDs to their subscribers, and once the customer was
done watching they would mail it back to Netflix. However, it was not until 2007, that Netflix
began streaming options through the Internet. By 2012, Netflix was expanding their brand beyond
the United States (Hosch). Netflix is an innovated the way people... Show more content on

Netflix has battled off these companies by keeping their costs low, always having a new variety
of shows and movies to watch and still making a large profit for themselves. The IT/IS system is
helped by this because they are always updating, adding, and removing content from their
website, as well as improving the layout and making it more user friendly with their
recommended tabs and the ability to show the consumer what they might want to watch based
off of what they are currently watching or what they have watched in the past. Threat of
Substitute Products and Services The threat of substitute products and services causes a
company s goods and services to be threatened by other company s similar goods and services.
For example, Netflix s threats of substitutes are social media and cable television. Social media is
a similar product to Netflix, but causes Netflix to lose business, because customers are being
entertained by Instagram, and Snapchat, rather than watching Netflix. Netflix s information system
collects data based on customers activeness on Netflix s application. The inactivity of customers
causes Netflix to lose money and subscribers. Netflix will improve against the threat of social
media by making Netflix more interactive, such as, adding messaging to suggest shows to your
friend. In addition, cable television impacts Netflix s business. For instance, sports fans, and HBO
subscribers cannot get live games and Game of Thrones on Netflix,

Taliban And Women s Rights Essay
It is important to note that the Taliban was a Pashtun Islamic Fundamentalist group in the 1990 s.
It was started by Islamic fighters who resisted the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan and Pakistan
from 1979 to 1989. Not only was it comprised of Islamic fighters but also were joined by younger
Pashtun tribesmen who had studied in Pakistani seminaries. The Talibangained support in the
beginning during the post Soviet era by promising to stabilize the country of Afghanistanalong with
the rule of the law after the previous four years of conflict starting in 1992 and ending in 1996 with
rival mujahedeen groups. With gaining this support, the Taliban was able to spread throughout
Afghanistan. In November of 1994 the Taliban entered Kandahar... Show more content on

Many women during this time faced harsh treatment characterized by abuse and lack of equality.
Although the Taliban feel that their treatment of women is justifiable through Sharia law however,
there is nothing within that states that this treatment was justifiable. It is said that the treatment of
women at the time was consistent with treatment in rural areas of Afghanistan that had been
going on for centuries. Women in Afghanistan before the Soviet occupation and the Taliban was
fairly progressive and in comparison to other countries such as the United States and England.
They were able to vote and dressed in what many would call the latest fashion at the time and not
on the conservative side. After the occupation of the Soviets and into the rule of the Taliban,
women were not being granted the same status as men. It is common that when most people
around the world think of women in Afghanistan they think of a woman in full body burqas.
However, before the conflict in 1970 s Afghanistan had been relatively progressive. According to
the article Women in Afghanistan: The Back Story, Women were able to vote in 1919 and in
1950s purdah, gender separation, was abolished and in 1960s a new constitution brought equality
to many lives and political participation. Through Soviet occupation in the 1970s, civil conflict
between Mujahedeen groups, and government forces this progression changed. Under Taliban
rule, women in Afghanistan had their rights increasingly rolled back. The Taliban once in rule
enforced their own version of Islamic Sharia law. This began with women and girls being banned
from: going to school or studying, from working, from leaving the house without a male
chaperone, from showing their skin in public, from accessing healthcare delivered by men, and
from being involved in politics or speaking publicly. These bans were a complete change from what

On Dumpster Diving Lars Eighner
Lars Eighner s On Dumpster Diving describes the lifestyle of living out of a dumpster.
Eighner makes use of a tone and presents an usually unseemly topic in a compelling and comical
light. His general claim is that it is possible to survive well outside the housed community of the
average citizens. Eighner brings a perspective on scavenging for food and goods that differs from
the typical knee jerk reaction to dumpster diving. In his essay, Eighner discusses American waste as
well as the true art of scavenging and the lessons he learned through this experience. Eighner
attempts to explain and rationalize the reasons for dumpster diving. As he explains the art of
scavenging, he exposes the wasteful nature of Americans, especially college ... Show more content

A new scavenger is filled with disgust and self loathing. (382) He goes on to say that this stage
passes with experience and brings on a new one in which the scavenger begins to realize that
people throw away perfectly good stuff making their shyness disappear. Then the scavenger
becomes lost because they begin to collect things that they can never use. Pack rat. Thats what
Eighner calls the scavengers that begin to collect everything that is interesting nut of no value or
purpose. Every bit of glass may be a diamond, they think, and all that glistens, gold. (383) Can
scroungers. These are the scavengers that Eighner hates. These are the ones that scrounge for
cans because they had little to no cash and have to find a way to feed their drug and alcohol
addiction. They become blinded by these symbols of money that they begin to look past anything
else that may be of value and make a big mess for the next scavenger that may look in

The Retail Industry Is Highly Competitive, With Few Barriers
The retail industry is highly competitive, with few barriers to entry. Each Company competes with
many other local, regional and national retailers for customers, associates, locations, merchandise,
services and other important aspects of the Company s business. Those competitors include other
department stores, discounters, home furnishing stores, specialty retailers, wholesale clubs, direct
to consumer businesses and other forms of retail commerce. Some competitors are larger than
JCPenney, have greater financial resources available to them, and, as a result, may be able to devote
greater resources to sourcing, promoting and selling their products. There are many factors that

United States to keep up on pressure price. It is a privately held German retailer, known for

Los Angeles Rams Football Club V. Cannon (Page 76 in textbook)
Background
Billy Cannon is a highly touted draft prospect coming off a successful college career at LSU,
which included a Heisman Trophy win. The Los Angeles Rams of the NFL were the first in signing
him to a $50,000 contract. However, Cannon subsequently signed a $100,000 contract with the AFL
s Houston Oilers. The Rams sued Cannon in an effort to prevent him from performing any football
activity for any organization other than their own.
The Facts Of The Case
The defendant did sign a contract with the Los Angeles Rams covering the span of the 1960 1962
seasons. He then received two checks for $10,000 and $500. Not long after, the defendant signed
another contract ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Philadelphia Ball Club V Lajoie (Page 83 in Textbook)
Background
The Philadelphia Ball Club was challenging a judgment from Pennsylvania s trial court, which
refused to enforce an injunction against Lajoie for breach of his contract. The court felt that to do
so would render Lajoie so valuable to the ball club that his breach of contract would lead to
irreparable damages. The court felt that the player s value was not that high, and that the language
in the contract in which the ball club could discharge the player at anytime without the player being
allowed to do the same lead to this decision.
The Facts Of The Case
Lajoie signed to play for a rival team during the terms of an existing contract that specifically stated
that Lajoie had not had the right to do so. His value was not determined highly enough to make the
breach of contract valid, leading to the ball club appealing the decision.
Legal Issue At Hand
Was it right that the player s value was not high enough to hold him legally responsible for his
breach of contract?
Appellees Argument
The Ball Club argued that the withdrawal of the player did in fact hurt the ball club, as would
the departure of any good player from any good ball club. Their language was as follows: the
defendant is an expert baseball player in any position; that he has a great reputation as a

Submaximal Contraction
PER 415
Dr. Kyle Ryan
1.) In the article by Duchateau, Semmler Enoka, they explained the importance of the behavior of
single motor units that follow training. The Motor Unit is a vital part in both strength training and
skill training. The motor unit is comprised of a motor neuron in the spinal cord, its axon and all of
the fibers that innervates. Motor unit s main function is to transform synaptic input that is received
by the motor neuron. On average, 300 muscle fibers are innovated, however, the range can extend
far beyond that median number. Muscle fibers have many varieties that are affected through levels
of fatigue, force and contraction speed. The most important is the size of the motor neuron. The
influence of the size creates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is still unclear to researchers the actual affect adaptations have on motor recruitment
and coding. Many of the research in this article explained some of the findings on how strength and
skill training help performance through the usage of motor units. Mostly through learning about
submaximal and maximal contractions and the affects that using small motor neurons and large
motor neurons. Small motor neurons use more submaximal contractions whereas, maximal
contraction use large motor neurons. This article explained how surface EMG s are still the most
effective way to detect motor units through different types of contractions. Although through their
finding EMG s did not proved to be as effective in how they pick up motor output. Duchateau and
Hainaut in one of their studies talked about how there was a 7% increase in activation through the
motor units produced in hand muscles. Contrast to this, different muscles have different motor
recruitment so it can vary in the effectiveness. Also many of the studies had different amount of
time training. Duchateau and Hainaut did 6 weeks of strength training and Kamen and Knight did
12 weeks. The 10,000 hour rules teaches us that the more we practice the better gains we receive.
So naturally the adaptations used in Kamen and Knight would be different because they received 6
more weeks of training. The studies did not have

Cdc Risk Factors
Most risk factors associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are
interconnected. For example, an obese person is more likely to have other conditions such as
high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
CDC (2015) reports that some risk factors are modifiable such as smoking, and diet, while others
are non modifiable such as age and family history. Approximately 47% of all Americans have at
least one of the three major risk factors for CVD; high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and
smoking (CDC, 2015).
Diet intake is one of the risk factor that can be modified. High cholesterol which refers to low

Social Stigma Of Mental Illness
behavior is seen as threatening, society results to punishing them or avoiding them (Hinshaw,
2007, p. 7). An example of this is that each year in the United States between 5 and 6 million
individuals with mental disorders lose, fail to seek, or cannot find employment as a consequence of
their mental illness (Hinshaw, 2007, p. 124).
Causes and Impact of Social Stigma How society responds to mental illnesses is mainly
influenced by the amount of knowledge they have regarding mental disorders (Hinshaw, 2007, p.
7). Thus the way in which mental disorders is defined has major implications for social responses
(Hinshaw, 2007, p. 7). People who suffer from mental illness have different behaviors than others;
as a result, people in society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stutzman provides insight on a different way to define mental illnesses because, like Hinshaw, she
does not find that behavior that is deviant from statistical and societal norms necessarily means
someone is mentally ill (personal communication, May 25, 2017). Instead in the field of psychology
and psychiatry, mental illnesses is also defined as behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that cause
distress and impairment in someone s life (K. Stutzman, personal communication, May 25, 2017).
Instead of being a deviance of social and statistical norms, mental illness is more a reflection of
impaired functioning in the realm of social, occupational, and personal issues (K. Stutzman,
personal communication, May 25, 2017). Efforts have been made to shift the model of mental
illnesses from a dichotomy to view mental illnesses in more shades of grey (K. Stutzman, personal
communication, May 25, 2017). The media also greatly impacts the social stigma of mental
illnesses (Corrigan Watson, 2002, p. 17; Davey, 2013; Friedman, 2014). The mentally ill are often
negatively portrayed in movies and the news (Corrigan Watson, 2002, p. 17; Davey, 2013;
Friedman, 2014). In fact, results from an analysis of English language movies featuring at least one
main character with schizophrenia released from 1990 2010 depicted that a majority of characters

Differences Between The North And South Of The World
Inequality, a topic that I believe runs through the centre of Geography, dominates both the UK,
and the entire world. In the UK, numerous economic, cultural and political factors divide the
North from the South. To name a few: there is a missing year of life expectancy north of the line,
children south of the line are much more likely to attend Russell group universities, house prices
have recently soared in the South, and politically, the South tend to vote conservative, while the
North vote labour. Similar geographical concerns are occurring on an international level. In my
opinion, this divide between the North and South of the world is being exacerbated by
globalisation. Although this is the belief that countries are becoming too similar, due to a
decrease in cultural differences, I believe it is leading to even larger economic differences.
Through my reading of Globalization by Joseph Stiglitz, it is clear that me and him have the
same view. He explains that despite constant promises of reducing poverty made over the last
decade, the actual number of people living in poverty has increased by almost 100 million. This
occurred at the same time that total world income actually increased by an average of 2.5 percent
annually. Stiglitz explains that the benefits of globalisation have been less than its advocates claim,
and that the price paid has been greater. The environment has been destroyed, political processes
have been corrupted, and the rapid pace of change has not

The Authors and Their Works
The Authors Their Works
In the words of E.H. Carr in his classic study of historiography, As discussed the backgrounds of
the authors and their works plays a significant role in the writing of their biographies. Everybody
is subjective; we are all to an extent shaped by what is around us.
The selected works mark turning points in the writing of the life of Cook, and each of them is
considered as an important work within the field of Cook studies. They all display certain
characteristics and carry certain discourses that mark them as also being evocative of their
respective time periods. Cook scholars have often tried to prove or disprove certain facts, striven
to edit and correct details or attempted to replicate and summarize the total available information.
All of this is part of a wider discourse, an exploration of which is helpful in interpreting the
backdrop surrounding Captain James Cook.
It seems only logical to start with the very first biography, although several works penned by
Cook s colleagues dealing with his character had appeared before this, most notably that of
Johann Reinhold Forster, naturalist on board the second voyage, in 1778. This first biographical
work, The Life of Captain James Cook, was written by the biographer and Non conformist
Reverend Andrew Kippis, a member of The Royal Society and The Society of Antiquaries, and
appeared 9 years after Cook s death in 1788. Consequently this is the same year as the arrival of

  • 2. Essay about Chaucer s Canterbury Tales Chaucer s Canterbury Tales After reading explications of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, a student is likely to come away with the impression that the Franklin is the critics favorite punching bag. To the average reader in the modern English speaking world, the Franklin comes across as surprisingly fair minded and level headed, noteworthy as the man kind and inventive enough to resolve the marriage cycle with a tale of decency and openness. The critics, however, often depict the Franklin as a man primarily concerned with upward mobility, finding in his tale a number of remarks intended to win over the nobility and subtly assert his own claim to a kind of nobility. The contrast between the fawning Franklin of certain critical approaches and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marxist critics look for social and economic themes in a work, ones of which the author was unaware because the authors own consciousness is affected by the system of production in which he or she lived (157). This critical stance is particularly fitting when one approaches the Canterbury Tales: Chaucer s conscious emphasis on social class, combined with a modern reader s lack of familiarity with the economic conditions of Chaucer s work, requires almost any explicator of Chaucer s work to indulge, to some degree, in Marxist criticism. In her essay The Franklin as Dorigen, Susan Crane blends Marxist and feminist approaches to point out links between the Franklin and the heroine of his tale. The heroine of romance, she notes, occupies an insecure position in society. Noble by birth, and therefore superior to the common run of people, she is nevertheless still a woman, in a society which marginalizes women (Crane 238 239). The superior/subordinate position of Dorigen, Crane says, is an echo of the Franklin s own unclear status as a possible member of the gentlemanly class. Like the woman of nobility, the Franklin stands at the boundary between authority and submission (240). For Crane, a key element in the Franklin s choice of tale is his role as vavasour. Small land holders of this sort often appear in Old French romances, depicted as peaceable, hospitable men disinclined to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Killing Chickens Killing Chickens Betrayal and loneliness are two of the hardest emotions to encounter in life. Nevertheless, at some point everyone will experience and be forced to deal with them. This is made even harder when they are caused by someone you love and trust. In Meredith Hall s Killing Chickens , she uses various literary devices such as metaphor, simile, and imagery as she processes her husband s affair and describes having to kill chickens. Hall s literary nonfiction is based on the happenings of a specific day that was truly hard to handle after being deceived by ones she loved: I was killing chickens. It was my 38th birthday. My brother had chosen that morning to tell me that he had caught his wife my best friend, Ashley in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Better hide my surprise. Just as Hall identifies the chickens and her children, she explains, I turned her on her floppy neck again and again. Corkscrewing her breathing tube, struggling to end the gasping. Just as Hall is making many attempts to kill the chicken, she is unable to do it until it finally gives in. This is the same way her husband has been treating her for the past ten years with all the rumors and suspicions until finally she reached a breaking point. The author uses a number of different literary devices to describe the hardship she feels such as metaphor, simile, and imagery. The author revels that her life and the chickens are not very different. I felt her body break deep inside my own chest (6). The way the chicken has to be killed after being loved for so long is the same way Hall feels about being with her husband for so long and then having him cheat on her and leave her. Guilt and fear tugged me like an undertow (7). The chickens are being killed by the one that loved them and in the same way; Hall is killed by the one she loved: her husband. The author uses a numerous number of vivid imagery to describe the struggle she is going through with her husband leaving and her having to kill the chickens. Her shiny black beak opened and closed, opened and closed (5). The rumors and suspicions that the author s husband was cheating on her would come and go, until it reached a breaking point ... • 4. Batman Films Vs. Batman Batman is one of the most well known superheroes in the world. Since his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in 1939, he seems to have just gotten more famous even after over 75 years. However, the Batman that audiences see now is not the same Batman that first appeared in 1939. Batman had a solid moral compass and could very clearly see the line between right and wrong. In most of the early films and serials, he is cheesy to a point where it becomes hard to watch. Throughout the years, Batmanfilms have become increasingly more sinister and menacing, when they used to be comical and cheesy in the early films. Although there are numerous versions of Batmanand Batman movies, I have chosen to analyze the following films from different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later in the film, Batman s origin story is shown and young Bruce Wayne does witness the deaths of his parents. This film is dark visually because Gotham is dark and dimly lit. That makes the film seem more menacing. There is far more crime in 1989 Gotham than there was in 1966 Gotham, and the criminals actually appear threatening. They look rough and brandish weapons, instead of just fist fighting. As in most Batman films, Joker adds some danger. Jack Nicholson s portrayal of Joker definitely makes Joker seem crazier and more of a loose cannon. Jack Nicholson played crazy Jack Torrance in The Shining (1980) only nine years before playing Joker in Batman. It could be argued that audiences were so scared of his insane mannerisms as Torrance that their fear carried over when watching him as Joker in Batman. Nicholson does portray Joker as being actually crazy and unpredictable, which keeps the audience on their toes. Nicholson has crazy eyes and does not seem to be someone who is warm and cozy, in fact, he seems the opposite. As an actor, he plays characters that are intense and a little frightening, but that makes him a good actor to play a villain because he has that villainous reputation. The Dark Knight is arguably the darkest Batman film to date. This film is influenced There are five deaths ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Statement of Rhetorical Analysis On February 22, 2016 author John Warner published an article on Just Visiting entitled Kill the 5 Paragraph Essay. Warner creatively talks about how rudimentary of a structure this type of essay holds. Writers are locked inside a cage of regulations and guidelines making them unable to write the essayas they please, but rather having to piece together regulated sentences and paragraphs because that s what they have been told would score high on certain test questions. The article targets people of all kinds, but is more directed towards early college aged students. The purpose behind this article is to get them to expand their horizon, disregard all the regulations they have been previously taught and start to write in a much more open minded sense. Analysis of John Warner s Kill the 5 Paragraph Essay Simply spoken, the aging youth are facing a very large dilemma when it comes to making the transition from high school to college level courses. As many have been taught in the past, just as many will be taught in the future, the commonly known 5 paragraph essay is quickly becoming an eyesore in the writer s community. • 9. Food Spoilage And Its Effect On The Food Industry Abstract The health and economic impact of food spoilage to both consumers and producers are enormous, it has a detrimental effect on the consumer s health and negatively impacts the bottom line of the producers. In the past monitoring of food quality are done using a sensor which observes changes in temperature, releases of gases which are not effective and every year million health cases result from food spoilage. This paper introduces an intelligent monitoring system that uses NFC based sensor that has the capability to detect release gases from spoiled food through the change in PH. This system uses a PH sensor and Near Field Communication (NFC) device which is a subset of RFID. Introduction Food spoilage is the process in which food product becomes unconsumable to the human with changes in taste, smell and physical form. These changes are due to some factors like air, oxygen, light, temperature, and microbial growth. Lack of adequate food monitoring technology during transit of product usually result to compromising on food quality and safety. The innovation of wireless method of monitoring food quality will ensure consumer health and safety and reduce the cost of a producer. Introduction For decades, countries have designed their individual accounting standards principle based, rules based, tax oriented, or business oriented. Globalization has led to the greater needs with regards to harmonizing the standards (Kimmel, 2013). By late 1990 s the dominant standards were the IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and U.S. GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Thus, both the standard setters namely; FASB (Financial Accounting Standards Board) and IASB (International Accounting Standards Board) launched a convergence project prior to the IFRS being essentially adopted by several countries. Measures are being taken to reduce likely impacts the frameworks would have on financial statement and reduction of last minute changes (Kimmel, 2013). IFRS 10 2: Explain how IFRS defines a contingent liability and provide an example. It refers to a likely obligation a company may incur mostly depending the outcome or results of a future event (Shamrock, 2012). Additionally, the outcome of a present situation is considered to be uncertain which is anticipated to be tackled by a future event. It is recorded in the books of account if the contingency is likely and the extent of liability can be projected. Product warranties and outstanding liabilities are common examples (Kimmel, 2013). • 11. Analysis of the State of the New Media Art The article is an analysis of the state of the new media art. The new media uses digital communication to express its artwork and Muir (2002) choses certain works as illustrative examples of their format. Their spectrum was so called old, middle aged and modern digital art that spanned the 19th century to the present moment. Their first example was June Paik s magnet TV 91965). Paik integrated music, video,a nd sculptural forms of objects in order to convey modern relationship to TV. Intending to convey the omnipotence of TV, Paik s aforementioned sculpture consisted of a large magnet on top of a television set. The magnet was manipulated by hand to create abstract patterns of light inside the monitor. The work was deliberately constructed in a simple way so as to arouse discussion and thought regarding the all powerful influence and, some would say, insidiousness, of TV. Nicholas Schoffer is called the Father of Cybernetics and Video Art. He is another example of creators of media Art. Schoffer s sculptures combining electronics with sculpture included his 52 meter high cybernetics Tower of Liege , which consisted of mirrors, projectors, microphones, and photoelectric cells. Schoeffer also produced Microtine Sculptures (1968 1969) that was composed of discs and manipulated by electronics to produce pulsating light. Robert Adrian s work was in telecommunication. • 15. The Case Of William Marbury Deserved The Commission Or Not This case was a case for the ages that challenged the very decision of our newly elected president. The former President Adam after a grueling election has lost and in order to maintain the legacy of the Federalist, he began to appoint justices to the Supreme Court. These judges were appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate, but unfortunately for these justices, the letters that confirmed the appointment never reached the potential justices. Adams was working quickly to push the appointments through, but unfortunately he ran out of time and Jefferson took office. Jefferson saw the appointment letters on his desk and discarded them. One of the potential justices was William Marbury and he sued the president for his Supreme Court appointment. His goal was to have the court to order a writ of mandamus, which if completed, would order a government official to fulfil their official duties. The Chief justice presented three questions that needed to be decided by the court. The first issue addressed was whether William Marbury deserved the commission or not. The court opened the questioned if the law had a remedy for the situation. The final question was whether the writ of mandamus the appropriate legal action in the case. These questions were debated and the court confirmed that Marbury deserved the commission, but they found that the Judiciary Act of 1789 which allowed the court to submit the very writ of mandamus Marbury needed was unconstitutional. Great communication is the key in creating a more connected system for the administration managements. The topic I have chosen for the assignment is the human impacts that are placed on the beaches and coast of Warrnambool, namely areas around the Merri Island Sanctuary. This also incorporates locations including Stingray bay, the breakwater, Shelly beach and Middle Island. Warrnambool is known for it s many diverse areas of coastline with many unique beaches; this then brings in various groups of people and tourists in the interest of seeing the beaches or for recreational water activities to Warrnambool. This tourism is positive for Warrnambool economically, but can place a negative effect on the beach environment and the ecosystem. Locations such as the Merri Marine Sanctuary and the area around Shelly beach include a diverse ecosystem and reef area where many rock pools are noted. (Parks Victoria, 2007) Many people come down here to look at the rock pools, but this could harm the invertebrates seen in the reef, as not everyone is aware of this, especially tourists and children. This could include to trampling and picking up creatures, which puts stress on them, some being more vulnerable, then others. It is known that in an environment, anything within it should not be moved as to not make a footprint on that area and within the sanctuary it is not allowed. Within all of these areas, pollution is a huge impact on the environment, which is clearly noticeable. Plastics and clothing have been noted in these reef areas that could harm or kill invertebrates. Hippocampus Glucocorticoid Receptor (HPA) The overall goal of this paper is to see how epigenomic programming is established and maintained through behavioral programming, and whether or not it s modifiable or reversible later in life (specifically adult, post mitotic tissues). The authors hypothesis is that maternal care such as pup licking and grooming (LG) as well as arched back nursing (ABN) can affect DNAmethylation of the GR promotor region, exon 1 base 7 promoter, and that these effects can be sustained throughout adulthood while being associated with differences in hippocampus glucocorticoid receptor (GR) expression and Hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis (HPA) reactions to stress. The independent variable in this experiment is the Trichostatin A (TSA) injection/infusion. Trichostatin A is a Histone Deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor. It is made up of chemical compounds that interfere with gene expression by removing the acetyl groups from the histones. Starting with figure 1, the major question that the figure is attempting to answer is how LG ABN maternal care affects cytosine methylation of the GR promotor and how CpG methylation in the GR promotor region, exon 1 base 7 promoter differ between high and low LG ABN (maternal care) groups. It is trying to figure out whether there is a causal relationship between LG ABN and DNA methylation of the pups and whether or not timing of maternal care/age of the pups have anything to do with the different levels of DNA methylation. There are both positive and negative control groups for figure 1. • 35. Biography of Alexandre Dumas Alexandre Dumas was a descendant of a nobleman and the son of a general (Benton), and continued his family legacy by writing about 300 fiction and non fiction books, plus creating six different periodicals (Benton). His writing styles and characters embody his life experiences as many writers do, and provides the oppurtunity to look back in time to see parts of French social culture, for example how its classes were defined and people s opinions on what was acceptable and what wasn t through use of euphanisms. The main influences on Alexandre Dumas when writing The Count of Monte Cristowere religion, especially Catholicism, his father, the French Revolution, the movement of French Romanticism, and a man named Picaud. It is clear that during Dumas time in France, the Catholic religion was clearly favored in France with articles like The Concordat of 1815, which Kristen Hosack explains that, The agreement recognized Catholicism as the religion of the great majority of citizens, and the clergy. (Hosack 32) and also the French Constitution of 1830, which, although it promised freedom of religion, also gave compensation to ministers of the Catholic... religion. (Halsall). These two documents were both publicised during Dumas life and prior to The Count of Monte Cristo, so it is acceptable to say that Catholicism was the religion of France during this era. To notice all the little things, all the misspelled words and oddly phrased writings of the years before now. People change over time, they grow and become something that they never were before that very second. And over time all the little things, all the time spent doing this and all the time spent doing many other things just becomes history. I have heard from many people that to become a better writer you have to read, which is phenomenally true. You have to explore the different styles and genres if you re going to ever grow to being a writer. Read non fiction, sci fi, horror, historical fiction, fanfiction, poetry, read anything you can get your hands on. Some will be great and some won t be, but every chapter is a new step to take in the path writers take. • 38. The Contradiction Of Opposing Regulation The Contradiction of Opposing Regulation Under public interest theory, regulations exist to protect consumers, to protect workers, and to protect the rights of the least advantaged. They exist to hedge against the greed, corruption, and exploitation that can occur in an unchecked capitalistic society. They attempt to prevent or ameliorate detrimental consequences to individuals and communities. Granted, this can be seen as an idealistic view of regulation. Exponents of public interest theory argue that even well intentioned regulation can fail to achieve what it set out to do, and politicians are imperfect and subject to pressure both by corporations and vocal minorities (Koopman et al., 2014). Nonetheless, in the United States, these democratically elected local and federal representatives have put regulations in place that, unless given reason for doubt, are presumed to reflect the will of their constituents. Therefore, rebelling against regulation is not simply renouncing the government in some cases, it is renouncing the concerns of the communities that these companies argue they are improving. The selected works mark turning points in the writing of the life of Cook, and each of them is considered as an important work within the field of Cook studies. Cook scholars have often tried to prove or disprove certain facts, striven to edit and correct details or attempted to replicate and summarize the total available information. All of this is part of a wider discourse, an exploration of which is helpful in interpreting the backdrop surrounding Captain James Cook. It seems only logical to start with the very first biography, although several works penned by Cook s colleagues dealing with his character had appeared before this, most notably that of Johann Reinhold Forster, naturalist on board the second voyage, in 1778.
