Mommy Monologue
I had lived only four years when I became the person who I am today: a person who can become
another in an instant. I am a vicious police officer, or an innocent young child; I am a scandalous
sexy secretary, or a conservative old woman. I became someone who possesses the ability to
transform into anyone or anything. I became an actor. I remember crying so hard that I gave
myself my first migraine. Mommy used to tell me that it felt like a headache on steroids. I didn t
know what steroids were, but I didn t like them if they made headaches this bad. I didn t want to
be there. Mommy said that if I did well, then I d get to be someone else, but I didn t want to be
someone else; I wanted to be me. And I was good at everything, so I knew that if... Show more

I stared at them. I stared at the people at the front of the room. They didn t smile when anyone
else forgot what to say and what to do. I thought that they just didn t like me. They weren t mean
to anyone else. I sat there and I let my anger get bigger inside of me and I wanted my ice cream.
Finally, everyone got done being other people but I still had to wait. Mommy said that the mean
people (she called them directors) had to decide who got what part. I still didn t know what we
got a part of. I hoped that the mean directors decided to give us all a part of the food that they
had because I was hungry and I hadn t had my ice cream yet. They all came out of the room at
the same time and they all held papers in their hands, but they didn t have food. Then they
started calling names. I sat in my chair and I held Mommy s hand and I didn t pay attention.
Little Baby sat on my lap and didn t say a word. Mommy sat on her chair and listened to the
directors. The directors stood in front of everyone and kept calling names for a long time. I
wanted ice cream with sprinkles (I thought I deserved sprinkles) and chocolate syrup and Alyssa
Masula . Mommy jumped up and knocked me out of my chair and Little Baby fell on the floor.

The Day Of A Local Coffee Shop
It was an average day in a local coffee shop. My life was average, nothing exciting. I lived in an
average apartment in an average town. I worked an average job and went home and did average
things. That is until I went to that average coffee shop on that average day. I was sitting at the
table doing my last minute assignment for work. I looked up and sawa gorgeous girl walk in the
coffee shop. She saw me too. I wasn t the kind of person to go up to someone I didn t know and
start talking to them. Thankfully she was though. She came up to me and smiled, she told me her
name was Aubree and I told her my name was Blair. Little did I know I had just met the person
that would bring excitement to my life. We talked for an hour about our lives.... Show more content

I woke up the next morning smiling, that s saying alot considering mornings are hell for me. I
spent extra time working on my appearance this morning, I couldn t wait to see Aubree. I left for
the coffee shop early, I didn t want to be late to meet her. When I walked in the coffee shop she
was already there. I smiled at her and went and stood in line to get my coffee. After I got my
coffee I went to go sit with her.
Hey Blair She exclaimed.
Hi Aubree, How s your morning going? I asked her.
It s good, hey what are you doing this weekend? She asked me.
I haven t really thought about it I answered.
Do you want to come stay at my beach house with me? I m leaving tonight She questioned.
Yes, I get out of work at 6:00...Can you meet me here? I asked her
Of course...It s a plan She happily exclaimed. Work went on much slower than usual, probably
because I was waiting for the end of it. I was really excited to spend the weekend with Aubree,
whether she felt the same way as me or not. I finally got out work and went home and packed for
the weekend. After I was done I texted Aubree and told her I was on my way to the coffee shop.
When I got to the coffee shop and I saw Aubree, Then my heart shattered as I noticed something
else. Standing next to Aubree was a man, and they were holding hands in front of a car. I would
have driven away but she never said she was single or even into girls. I parked my car and walked
up to Aubree and the Man. I noticed that

Privatizing the Public Sphere Essays
Privatizing the Public Sphere
The privatization and fragmentation of space in post industrial urban America is a widespread
social problem. As society becomes even more globalized as a result of technological advances, the
rampant spread of a privatized public realm is ever increasing. Public space is needed as a center in
which to bring people together to share a common place. It is within public spaces that public life
unfolds and without public spaces such as parks, streets, and buildings, the mixing of classes will
become increasingly uncommon. Society is made up of two sectors: the private and public, and it is
essential that both remain separate entities. However, through the use of fear tactics especially the
threat of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of these factors work cohesively with one another by instilling a sense of fear into the lives
of everyday citizens. Society is becoming more and more policed through the use of surveillance
cameras on public walkways, gated communities, but especially, through systematic approaches
used to create the feeling that public spheres are unsafe and something to be feared.
Corporations are taking over the urban landscape. In previous years, many upper and middle
class families fled to the suburbs to escape the everyday hustle of city life. However, in recent
years, city living has become glamorized and thus the movement back into the city has
increased. Once blighted inner city neighborhoods are being taken over and revitalized by
corporate leaders in hopes to redesign and yuppify these areas. As more money is put into the
area, the higher the market value goes up and as a result, many local residents can no longer
afford to live there. While these residents are pushed out, a more desirable group of residents
move in and thus, take over. This process, known as gentrification, is occurring in many cities all
across the nation. In the past, displaced residents could possibly move to another area that was not
undergoing this process. However, as we are seeing in Chicago, it is nearing impossibility to move
to an area within the city that will not

Reaction Paper On Perfume
Perfume is mixture of fragrant aroma compounds or essential oils, the first evidence of the use of
perfume by mankind dates back to the very old Egyptian civilizations around 2400 BC1.
Throughout the ages, fragrances have become gradually more essential and accessible. Nowadays,
the perfume business is a billion dollar industry 2. The companies also synthesize and trade the
individual raw materials used in perfumes, the perfumestocks are relatively unknown companies
that create and supply perfumes according to the wishes of their customers. The perfume raw
materials are generally complex mixtures of synthetic or natural (e.g. essential oils) organic
compounds, the fortitude of the composition of an unknown perfume, the so called perfume
formulation process, is not an easy task. Apart from the olfactive expertise of the perfumers, it also
wants advanced analytical tools. Because most perfume components are a polar and semi volatile in
nature, for decade s olfactometry, Headspace techniques, GC and GC MS, flame ionization

an odor sensation by an individual when dispersed in 1 m3 of neutral air. Hence, 1 OU/m3 is the
bench mark of the odorant concentration scale3. In this way, the odor intensity can be estimated,
the odor concentration in terms of OU/m3 of a mixture is not the algebraic sum of OUs for the
individual components, but results from the combination of complex phenomena and mutual

The Washington Redskins Name And Mascot
The Washington Redskins name and mascot represents one of the most recognized American
Indian figures in the United States. The controversial team name has been used since 1933, ever
since changing from its original name Boston Braves . It has sparked a nationwide outcry among
the remaining Native Americans who reside in the United States. Indians are forced to be reduced to
cartoon savages, ferocious warriors, and animal like heathens. After centuries of rampant dismissal,
removal, and destruction of this group, White Americans are still finding ways to subtly keep these
barriers in place which separates them. America s growing tolerance of racist stereotypes is
disturbing. The fact that many Americans do not realize that these... Show more content on

The slow yet brutal destruction of their population took place from 1492 1891. According to the
legal definition by the UN, this act is considered genocide which was perpetrated by both European
colonizers and the United States government. Tensions escalated and soon they were dehumanized
to the point where massacres such as Wounded Knee, hundreds of innocent Native Americans were
slaughtered by American soldiers. A significant precedent of the genocide was when White
Americans began making Indians the other . By viewing them as uncivilized creatures, it is easy to
separate oneself from a group so different. The use of Native American mascots is detrimental to
young American Indians and their psychological well being. When the mascot is constrained to a
stereotypical demeanor, it also constrains the way contemporary American Indians see themselves.
In mainstream media, Native Americans have little to no roles in movies, television, or music. The
only well known Indians in American culture are conventional characters created by large
corporations such as Disney s Pocahontas, Tonto from The Lone Ranger, and sports team s mascots.
The few representations of Native Americans are nationally broadcasted and provide misleading
and immoral assumptions on the targeted racial group. The select physical and behavior traits are
then taken, modified, and dramatized to ultimately create a character for entertainment and profit.

Trafficking In Peru
First of all, could the Peruvian Government win the battle? Illegal drug trade is one of the main
problems in the last century. A few days ago, I was informed that Maritza s son, a friend of my
childhood who lives in Peru, was involved in drug consumption and he died. She told me that she
did her best efforts to get her son to abandon druguse. But, she lost the battle. In the same way, as
national government of each country identifies interferences or threats against its state, it performs
its best efforts to eliminate these risks in order to raise life standards of people, to develop, to

Pennies In The Rich Lab Report
Introduction Different metals have different mass and volumes. The mass and volume of
something effect the density of the metal. If pennies made before and after 1982 have different
densities, they are most likely made out of different metals. The independent variable is the year
the pennies were made. The dependent variables are the density, volume and mass of the pennies.
The controlled variables are the number of pennies, the instruments used for measurement and the
environment in which the pennies are measured. Objective The purpose of this lab was to find out
the type of metal a coin in made of by calculating its density, to compare the precision of a triple
beam balance and a digital electronic balance, and to test the precision of our measurements.

Procedures 1.We collected 40 pennies, 20 pennies made before 1982 and 20 made after 1982.
2.The group then measured the mass of the 20 pre 1982 pennies on a triple beam balance and
recorded the data. We then did the same with the 20 post 1982 pennies. 3.The group then
measured the mass of the 20 pre 1982 pennies on a digital scale and recorded the data. We then
did the same with the 20 post 1982 pennies. 4.After, a graduated cylinder was used to measure
the volume of the 20 pre 1983 and post 1982 pennies. We filled the graduated cylinder with 50
milliliters of water. 5.Next, the data was recorded and was used in the formula to find the density
of the 40 pennies. 6.The class average was calculated and recorded along with the other data.

Role Of Chivalry In Beowulf
The role of chivalry is a complicated concept for solitary heroes within Beowulf and Albrecht
DГјrer s Knight, Death, and the Devil. In Beowulf, the concept of chivalry is explained through
the eyes of the hero, Beowulf, which is the idea of performing chivalrous actions in the face of
death for glory; however, Beowulfdoes not realize that his actions will not keep his people safe in
the end. In Knight, Death and the Devil, the idea of chivalry is the motivation of the knight on
religious grounds to be chivalrous in the face of death. The Knight gives the impression that he
understood that his actions would ultimately be meaningless, and he appears resigned to the idea.
The argument can be made that chivalry is unsustainable in both texts, given that while it inspires
these heroes to pursue these tasks, the result is that they believe that mild sacrifices, such as their
own life, must be made to ensure victory; however, these two texts differ with their heroes
anticipated outcomes of their sacrifices, which turns out to be for nothing. Despite having different
outcomes of operating within a system of chivalry, these two texts similarly critique the outcomes
of chivalry as being unsustainable based on the demands it places on heroes to sacrificethemselves.
To defend this claim, I will begin by similarly critiquing how chivalry is unsustainable within both
texts. I will then express how both texts show the unsustainability results from the demands of
sacrifice. I will then

The Rail Line Extension Of The Metro Bus System
Minneapolis has been ranked as one of the worst areas in the United States when it comes to
traffic. Drivers in the Twin Cities spend an average of 63 hours per year stuck in traffic
according to a 2015 survey done by TomTom, a GPS navigation company. In hopes of solving the
traffic problem, the first rail line in Minnesota opened back in 2004. Since then there has been a
Green Line extension from St. Paul to Minneapolis. The original Blue Line provided 10.6 million
rides as of last year and the Green Line has provided 12.4 million rides. Both lines have
contributed to the decrease to the overall ridership of the Metro bus system. Due to the success of
the Minneapolis light railsystem there has been plans to expand it even further.
In May 2010, a southwest Green Line extension was finally approved. The southwest light rail
would extend the green line fourteen and a half miles. Adding sixteen new stations beginning in
downtown Minneapolis and running through St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka, and Eden
Prairie. The total estimated cost for the project is $1.858 billion, costing the state of Minnesota a
total of $30.3 million. The rest of the funding comes from various sources such as Counties Transit
Improvement Board, Hennepin Country Regional Railroad Authority, Metropolitan Council, in
kind land transfers, and other local contributions. Construction is set to start in 2017 and end by
2021 if light rail is allowed to continue. This costly project has been approved and

The Consumer Culture Of The 1920s
The 1920s was a decade filled with prosperity, chaos, and excitement. During the 1920s, many
ground breaking inventions were introduced, such as the Model T Ford, the radio, and the
television. The discoveries and cultural developments of the 1920s would go on to shape
America for decades to come. The 1920s was arguably one of the most important decades in
American history, in regards to the impact it had on American culture and way of life. Such an
important decade should have a nickname, thus the 1920s were called the Roaring 20s. The
decade of the 1920s is referred to as roaring because it was a time of dramatic social change, as
demonstrated by the birth of a consumer society, the rise of a party culture, and the abandonment of
long standing morals.
The 1920s are described as roaring because major social developments occurred during the 20s, as
shown by the creation of a consumer culture. The Great Gatsby depicts the consumer society when
Fitzgerald s fictional character Daisy Buchanan bawls, They re such beautiful shirts, she sobbed,
her voice muffled in the thick folds. It makes me sad because I ve never seen such such beautiful
shirts before, (Fitzgerald 99). Fitzgerald s portrayal of the fictional character Daisy represents the
consumer culture of the 1920s; Americans were obsessed with materialistic wealth. Also, during
the 1920s, the economic wealth of America increased by twofold, granting many American families
with a newfound disposable income.

Indians Impact On The American Revolution
Indian Removal
Looking throughout the overwhelming events the American Revolution had on everyone involved,
allows us to examine how the governments policies toward the Indians changed over time. It
shows how the policy changes effected the Indians as well as the Americans , their attitudes
toward each other as the American s pushed westward and the Indians resisted. Then the actions
on both sides which lead up to the final removal of all Indians to west of the Mississippi in 1830 s.
The government as well as the Americans attitudes toward the Indians at the beginning of the
Revolution was pretty much the same as Thomas Jefferson s, which was that given time the
Indians could possibly change their ways and conform to white society s way of life. The Indian
removal had a profound impact on both the Indians as well as the white settlers. Each one felt
they were justified in their actions because each was doing what was best for their families and
their way of life. The Indians felt they were between a rock and a hard place. Whom to side with?
On one hand, were the British who seemed to want to protect the Indian territories, on the other
were the Patriots who were aggressively taking more and more land. Most stayed neutral waiting to
see the outcome, some chose the British. Chief Dragging Canoe of the Cherokee tribe attacked
white settlement in Virginia and western Carolinas around the summer of 1776. In the eyes of
white society all Indians are the same, this had a

The Puritans and the Pilgrims: What made the Puritans different?
Many Americans are familiar with the two groups, Puritans and Pilgrims, but most don t know the
differences between them. The Puritans began a group of people that were members of the
Anglican Church. Their goals were to rid the church of any remaining influences from Catholicism.
They were mainly English Protestants of the 16th century who wanted to follow the Calvinist
model of religion rather than the ever present Catholicism. Several Puritans lost faith in the
Anglican Church and felt it could never be completely purified from all Catholic influence; as a
result they abandoned the Church and completely separated themselves from the Anglican religion.
These Puritans where referred to as Separatists. The remaining majority of Puritans inherited the
title of non separating Puritans, over time these two groups would become increasingly hostile
toward each other.
The Puritans wanted to remain a part of the English establishment, and work toward reforming the
church from within. All the while they immigrating to New England, they still held onto their
English heritage, and their main emphasis in forming a new colony was to be a biblical witness
so to say, the city on a hill . Their objective was to set a shining example... Show more content on

Although they still considered themselves English as well, they were determined to form their own
spiritual and political identities. Their faith put more of an emphasis on individual righteousness
before God, instead of the Puritan form, that put more of an emphasis on corporate and community
righteousness. The Puritans were energized as a group by the constant persecution of their faith. As
a result they developed an entire system for defining and explaining their doctrine concerning

In business, the word of investment can be defined as the outflow of money for the purchase of

(Kahneman Tversky, 1979) It also can be assigned by the probabilities and calculated by taking the
average of weight of all possible outcomes under certain circumstance. (Investopedia organization,
2015) To be more specific, the expected utility of an act is a weighted average of the utilities out of
their potential outcomes, where the utilities of an outcome measures the extent to which that
outcome is preferred to the alternatives. The utility of each outcome is weighted depending on the
probability of which outcome will it be led to. (Stanford University, 2014)
On the other hand, the form of prospect theory is developed by Kahneman Tversky (1992)
through a value function (1979), which is defined on gains and losses that related to a reference
point, and is normally curving inward for gains, commonly curving outward for losses.
Additionally, prospect theory can be defined as a descriptive model of decision making under
risk, which is designed to better explain how individuals actual make choices between different
options and prospects. It also evaluates an outcome based on the alternation of total resources and
judges by gains and losses that related to the status. (Wen, 2010) Under prospect theory, value is
allocated to gains and losses rather than to final assets. Moreover, the investment decision making is

Introduction
In a research project the researcher is either provided with a research idea by an organization
/university or he/she has to generate it by himself/herself. In both cases defining the research
question is of major importance for the success of the research project. In this short overview we
focus on the significance of research questions when one has to generate the idea and topic of a

Strong hypotheses give insight into a research question and give a hint on what we will find
when we answer the research question. A hypothesis gives therefore an a priori answer to the
research question. Punch (1998) makes the following connection between hypothesis and
research question: A specific research question states what we are trying to find out. The
hypothesis predicts, a priori, the answer to that question. Punch (1998) suggest that we do not
need a hypothesis in any case. It only makes sense when we have an explanation in mind behind
the hypothesis. A further question we should ask is what answer we expect and why. If we
expect a certain answer only because previous research has found it to be true, we do not need to
propose a hypothesis. To summarize and find out whether a hypothesis is reasonable one can

Is a hypothesis reasonable? Do you have an explanation in mind for the question?

What Are The Conditions Necessary To Pass An Ordinance
Article 123 and 213 of the Indian Constitution grant the President and the Governor the ordinance
making powers respectively. Ordinarily the Parliament is responsible for the law making process,
but the makers of the Constitution though considering Ordinances to be a necessary evil , hold that
the Ordinance making power should be delegated to the Executive to deal with such situations
when the existing law is not enough to deal with the aroused situation and the Parliament is not in
session. This extraordinary power is given to them when both Houses of the Parliament or State
Legislatureare not in session and the President or the Governor is satisfied that circumstances
exist which render it necessary for him to take immediate action. The conditions necessary to
pass an ordinance are a)both the houses should not be in session, b) The President or the
Governor is satisfied that such conditions exist that make it necessary for him to pass the
ordinance. Ordinance is just like any other Act and has the same force but it ceases to exist if
both houses of the Parliament or the State Legislature pass a resolution against it. It also ceases to
exist if it is not replaced by an Act within six weeks of reassembly of the Parliament or the State
Legislature. This method of issuing an ordinance has been devised with a view to enable the
executive to meet any unexpected or urgent situation arising in the Country when Parliament is not
in session, and which it cannot deal with

Asylum Seekers Persuasive Speech
Within this world, there will always be conflicts. There will always be persecutions and there
will always be discrimination, based on race, religion or gender. In these instances, there will
inevitably be innocent people affected. People that must, out of fear, leave behind the places they
love, the possessions they own and the people they know, all to be safe. Around the world today,
there are almost 900,000 asylum seekers, all fleeing from their home country, in search for a better
life. What exactly do we mean by an asylum seeker? The term asylum seeker refers to a human
being seeking refuge from hardship or persecution. So if Australiais the land of fair go why are we

Obviously we don t seem to be much of a humanitarian, decent country if this is how we treat
those who need our help. The government is so fixated on stopping the boats, when instead they
could be stopping the incrimination of asylum seekers in the Australian community, caused by
asylum seekers being seen as a political issue instead of a humanitarian one. Politicians use terms
such as deviant individuals and illegal immigrants in the attempt to criminalise and demonise
asylum seekers, scaring the country into believing that they are terrorists wanting to corrupt the
Australian way of life. Footage of immigration minister Scott Morrison addressing asylum
seekers detained on Manus Island and Nauru is frightening. He informs asylum seekers that they

The Effects Of Ozone Depletion
The ozone depletion has been well documented to negatively affect planet Earth for years. The
ozone is a thin layer of the EarthВґs atmosphere which is responsible for absorbing the sun s
harmful ultraviolet light ( What is Ozone Layer?,2017). The loss of ozone on earth will take a toll
on human health, plants and marine ecosystems, ultimately resulting in a planet that does not
support living things. Today, this manifests in climate change. It is easy for many to confuse these
two issues, although they are connected in various ways. Loss of the ozone layer is caused by
greenhouse gases such as chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs (compounds with chlorine and/or fluorine
attached to carbon), as well as , halons (similar compounds with bromine or iodine) (Jain 2015).
These chemicals can stay in the atmospherefor up to 100 years causing damage(What is Ozone
Layer?,2017). Greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, contribute to global warming, which then
contributes to climate change by warming the surface and waters. These factors are resulting in a
domino effect on our environment. Climate change is classified as an abrupt increase in the Earths
temperatures typically caused by human activity (National Aeronautics Space Administration
2016). Human activities that release pollutants in our atmosphere are changing it and contributing
to global warming and ozone depletion. With all the knowledge, resources and tools invented for the
benefit of humans, one would think that these

A Fossil Lagerstatten Is A Form Of Sedimentary Deposits
A fossil Lagerstätten is a form of sedimentary deposit that is of high value due to the fossils that it
contains (Clarkson, 1998). The geological horizons containing these deposits were named by the
German Palaeontologist Adolf Seilacher in 1985 (Nudds Seldon, 2008), Lager meaning Stratum
and Stätte meaning place (Allaby, 2013).
Palaeontologists divide fossil Lagerstätten into two types; Konservant Lagerstätten (Nudds
Seldon, 2008), or conservation deposits, are horizons that show exceptional preservation of
organisms, this may also include soft part preservation in some cases (Clarkson, 1998). This type
of preservation usually occurs due to the inhibition of decay of the soft tissue (Briggs, 2014). For
marine fossils, this can occur because of either rapid burial of the biota (Clarkson, 1998) or
deposition in areas of low oxygen concentration (Briggs, 2014).
The second type is Konzentrat Lagerstätten (Nudds Seldon, 2008) or concentration
Lagerstätten, which are deposits on certain horizons in which an exceptionally large number of
fossil have been preserved. These usually occur when there has been a low rate of sedimentation
over a time period (Clarkson, 1998).
Discovered by Charles Walcott in 1909, The Burgess Shaleis an example of conservation
Lagerstätte (Briggs, 2014). Dating back to 505 million years ago, it provides fossils of marine
organisms dating back to the middle Cambrian period, not long after the Cambrian explosion, a
period of time when organisms

Peer Pressure In George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant
Peer pressure s grasp reaches everybody daily. Too often people tend follow the crowd s decision
instead of maintaining their own morals. The guilt felt after conceding to a crowd s way of
thinking can crush a person. In a small Burmese town, a police officer feels pressure in a defining
showdown with an elephant. George Orwellreveals the consequences of caving into peer pressure
through imagery found in Shooting an Elephant.
The protagonist repeats over and over he does not want to shoot this elephant. The officer shows
his tender emotions towards elephants and depicts early on the grandmotherly air they possess.
Orwell conveys many times his unwillingness to shoot the elephant, and at one point he says the
gun he grabs to shoot it was much too small to kill an elephant. Subconsciously, he did not want
this elephant to die, so he grabs this small rifle just to stop the fear in the crowd. After it suffers for
a while, Orwell s sheds a light on his inner conflict with shooting the animal. His incapability of
comprehending his actions devastate him and he, could not stand it any longer and went away. ...

Physical Restraint And Nursing Home Facilities
This is a review of literature related to physical restraint use in nursing home care facilities. The
number of studies related to this topic is extremely limited and significantly outdated. More
research is needed to understand the effects and experience of physical restraint use in nursing
home facilities. Through conducting research on this topic, it is apparent that more research is
needed to fully understand physical restraint use. This literature review include: nursing and
psychiatric hospitals, underreporting use of restraints, nursing interventions, effective management
of residents, informed consent and federal regulations. Minnesota passed a law in 1999
(Minnesota Statute 144.651, subdivision 33) which established explicitly the right of residents or
residents decision makers to request physical restraints. It also specified that legitimate medical
reasons for using a physical restraint include: 1) a concern for the physical safety of the resident;
and 2) physical or psychological needs expressed by a resident. A resident s fear of falling may be
the basis of a medical symptom. Studies in the 1980 s indicated that restraints were more likely to
cause harm rather than prevent it. Restraints caused many detrimental effects that included
strangulation, bone loss or the patient becoming weak. Ultimately being restrained oftentimes
caused an individual to be embarrassed, angry or even humiliated. Many of the residents became
depressed, agitated or withdrawn;

Earlier this week, on Memorial Day, police officers in Roseville, California arrested a gang of

they did by leaving out some key information about the suspects backgrounds.

Koan Essay
Obtaining Realization Through Koan
Zen, also known as Ch an Buddhism in China, is a school of Mahayana Buddhism that was
established in China about 1500 years ago. Zen is a form of religious practice of mainly
concentrating the mind to a single point in which then results in self realization and/or
enlightenment. Zen philosophy is interpreted that all humans are capable of reaching
enlightenment, which is generally blocked by ignorance. The idea emphasizes enlightened masters
over forms of scriptures, and is the least academic of all the Buddhist schools.

Zen Buddhism has a reputation for being unfathomable or an incomprehensible type of religion.
Much of that reputation is derived from koan practice. Buddhist priest Myoan Eisai introduced
Zen in Japan in 1191 after receiving a certification as a Zen teacher in China, as a disciple of
Xuan Huaichang. Along with his certification, Eisai also brought Zen scriptures and tea seeds in
which he used when immediately opening the first Zen temple in Japan. Rinzai and Soto are the
two sub divisions of Zen, and are the two largest Zen sects in Japan today. Rinzai was brought to
Japan by Eisai in the 12th century and focuses on sudden enlightenment. This practice believes that
unless one awakens the absolute, Rinzai will have no effect. Rinzai master Hakuin used koans, a
puzzling or paradoxical story or statement for aid in meditation. The most well known koan, what
is the sound of one hand clapping? was created by Hakuin Ekaku.
Koan, literally meaning public cases is one of the most familiar and distinctive elements of Zen
Buddhism. It refers to mysterious and often shocking spiritual expressions, most cases in forms of
riddles, based on encounters between masters and disciples of the tradition used as pedagogical
tools for religious training in the Zen (Ch an) Buddhist tradition (Wright 3). Most classic koans are
derived from the T ang dynasty China. Kung an, the Chinese pronunciation of koan, is a case which

deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to

I believe Dr. House expresses the skill of delegation the best out of a skills, but he needs to be
always available to his subordinates in case of issues.
Availability as a supervisor helps boost morality, production, and understanding throughout the
work area. Most employees would choose to work for a supervisor or manager that is moving
around and checking up on their employees, rather than a person hiding behind a desk the whole
day delegating work through a phone, calling employees to the office for instruction, or
intercom. In the show, Dr. House is rarely sitting in his office during the day. He is in and out of
hospital rooms checking up on doctors, nurses, and patients. As I explained before, he has some
bizarre and questionable techniques, but he has a better understanding of the situation in each
room to make these decisions. A manager sitting in an office and not leaving cannot and should
not make these decisions because they do not know the situation. Having that experienced
individual around also helps boost the employee s confidence because if there is a mess up, Dr.
House will be watching over to ensure the procedures are correct. Last, he understands each
situation, and if a problem arises suddenly, he does not need a long brief of what is going on. He
can get right to work with the solution. An example from the episode I watched is when he asked
what time the class session is until it is over, and one of his doctors told him it was over a

Feasibility Report On Ipo s, And The Process Of Buying An Ipo
I compile, through various mediums, information regarding initial public offerings, or IPO s.
The report includes areas such as defining an IPO, the performance of IPO s, the current market

retail or non professional investor who may be engaged in purchasing IPO s. I look to determine if
the underlying facts create certainty that these instruments are profitable currently and in the long
run. It appears through study that investors have increased their consumption of initial public
offerings since the 2007 2008 financial crisis. Many investors believe purchasing IPO s can create
quick realized gains. However, it appears that the performance of these issues has lagged the
broader market, which in my opinion should steal zeal from these risky investments. The figures

The Purpose of the Labor Relations Act
Over the last seventy five years labor related issues has went through a dramatic changed that
affects today labor movement. During the 1930 s the labor movement gained due to the
abundance of labor, employers easily replaced workers. Labor unions were established in order
for workers to get organized and bargain for their needs and rights. These unions were created
because it was known that groups have more power in bargaining than individuals. When large
groups of employees make joint decisions, employers are forced to listen to their concerns. For
example, if all the workers in a factory stopped working at the same time, it would be difficult to
keep the company operating. Early unions in North America faced a difficult battle. Employers
refused to accept the unions. The courts often declared the unions illegal. The National Labor
Relations Act of 1935 and other laws required employers to bargain with unions. Political parties
and other groups have also become involved with the labor movement (Labor Movement).
Understanding the legal ramifications involved both with and without a union is a necessity for
all human resource professionals. I will address the differences and similarities in employee
relations approaches in both types of environments. In addition reviewing key aspects of labor

higher salaries and greater income potential than some of their peers. Their job isn t limited to
equitable caring for children; pediatric nurses likewise help parents with information on children s
health and preventive measures to keep their children out of the hospital. Being a pediatric nurse is
a exceedingly regarded profession because of its requirements, intensive training, and its wide
variety of opportunities such as general pediatrics, PICU, and pediatric oncology nursing.

Stop Under-Forced Marriage
Stop Under Aged Forceed Marriages
Every young girl asks for a new baby Annabel or a new bicycle on the run up to their 11th
birthday, but girls all over the world just want the right to an education and a free life. In the
developing world girls are getting married to older men from ages 30 up. This can end their
chances of an education and puts them at a much greater risk of isolation and violence. For girls
under the age of 15 the incidence of an early forced marriage is one in nine; The girls in these
undeveloped countries can be married as young as 5 years old. It is time to stop these unforgivable
marriages.
Research shows that in some of the biggest Mosques in Britain, millions of famillies have been
caught on camera agreeing to the marriage of their daughters some who are as young as 11 years
old. We cannot allow this to happen here on our doorstep. More awareness, more publicity, more
information has to be distributed so that this practice is brought to the attention of us all. Some of
the causes are due to poverty and religion. This is one of the biggest issues in the world and it

According to UNICEF 48% of women in South Asia are forced to marry before they turn 18.
These teenage brides do not give their consent for their marriage their human rights are taking away

children agree that they should be taking a lead role in marriage, but the couple have agreed to
do so. A forced marriage is when families decide that their child should be married to someone
for their own benefit for example money to help the rest of their family, the child in which is

Importance of Human Resource Department
The importance of the Human Resource Department by Ng Hui Chen, GSM
Employee is one of the most important assets of a company as they have significant influential
power to the success of a company. Therefore, effective and efficient human resource management
is crucial to every organization. However, the emergence of the centralized Human Resource
Department (HRD) has created conflicts on whether the responsibility of human resource
management should lie on line managers or HRD. The debate about the roles of line managers and
centralized HRD in human resource management has been ongoing since couple of years ago
(Hutchinson and Purcell, 2003). In my opinion, HRD remains as one of the important role within
an organization despite the need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
HRD can step in to investigate and change the line manager s decision.
According to Amit Bhagaria, 2010, some unscrupulous companies will run roughshod over the
rights of their employees. With HRD to review and evaluate the HR policies all the times, they
will ensure the rights of the employees are always secured. HR personnel are also the staff of the
companies. Certainly, they wouldn t allow the company to run roughshod over their rights as well!
In this way, they have helped to improve the general staff s well being. When the staff feels
positive about the company, they will improve productivity and are also more likely to stay with
the company longer.
HRD can serve as the channel of assistance or complaints to staff. Some of the human resource
issues need to be tackled by third party like HRD other than the line manager. For example, a staff
might decide to leave the company when the line manager declines his/her request of transfer. Staff
might be retained in the company with the assistance of HRD. Apart from that, staff can also file
their complaints to HRD when there are unfair treatments by line managers. Besides, HRD can
assist to conduct the exit interview for staff that are leaving the company. Staffs tend to more
reserve in the exit interview conducted by line manager if the reason of resignation is due to that
line manager. Hence, the outcome of the

Design Of The Guidance And Control Missile System
During the design of the guidance and control missile system, the missile mathematical modeling is
one of the most important steps. In this chapter, the mathematical model of the missile will be
structure using six equations of motion to represent the motion of a body with six degrees of
freedom, three force equationsand three moment equations [6, 7]. Definitions of coordinate systems
Two coordinate systems can be defined to describe the movement of missile: the earth fixed
coordinate system and the body coordinate system. The two coordinate systems are right handed.
Earth fixed coordinate system (ECS)
The axes X_E and Y_E point to the directions north and east respectively, and are located on a
plane tangent to the surface of the earth. Consequently, axis Z_E point down the center of the earth,
according to the rule of law. In the literature, this coordinate system is also called the local
coordinate system or northeast down (NED). Body coordinate system (BCS)
This coordinate system is assumed to be fixed to the flight vehicle center of gravity and moving
there with. The axis X_B advanced forward through the nose, axis Y_B through the wing starboard
(right) and the axis Z_B down. Coordinate transformation system
The transformation T_BE the coordinate system fixed ground the axes of the system coordinates
of the missile body axes is performed by a yaw rotation, pitch, and roll around the longitudinal axis,
lateral, and normal ( vertical), respectively .

Lab Report #3: Copper Cycle
Abstract:
The purpose of the experiment is to cycle solid copper through a series of five reactions. At
different stages of the cycle, copper was present in different forms. First reaction involves reaction
between the copper and nitric acid, and copper changed from elemental state to an aqueous. The
second reaction converted the aqueous Cu2+ into the solid copper (2) hydroxide. In the third
reaction Cu(OH)2 decomposed into copper 2 oxide and water when heated. When solid CuO
reacted with sulfuric acid, the copper returned to solution as an ion (Cu2+). The cycle of reactions

Discussion:
In this experiment an elemental copper was cycled a series of five reactions where it ended with
pure elemental copper as well, but at different stages of the cycle the copper was in different
forms. In the first reaction, elemental copper was reacted with concentrated nitric acid where
copper changed the form from solid to aqueous. Second reaction then converted the aqueous Cu2+
into the solid copper II hydroxide (Cu(OH)2) through reaction with sodium hydroxide. The third
reaction takes advantage of the fact that Cu(OH)2 is thermally unstable. When heated, Cu(OH)2
decomposes (breaks down into smaller substances) into copper II oxide and water. When the solid
CuO is reacted with sulfuric acid, the copper is returned to solution as an ion (Cu2+). The cycle of
reactions is completed with the

Mackenzie King Research Paper
Mackenzie King and his Leadership
Intro:
Strong leadership is taking ownership of a responsibility, willingly, creatively and effectively.
Strong leaders provide direction and support through unstable times, think deeply about the future,
account everyone s beliefs and opinions, and influence their followers. Every successful leader
needs four qualities; confidence, fairness, intelligence and persuasiveness. One of history s
strongest leaders was William Lyon Mackenzie King. Mackenzie King is remembered as one of
the greatest Canadian leaders in history as he lead the Liberal and Canadian Parliament through the
happiest and most troubled times for over two decades. His leadership was composed of his strong
confidence, the fairness he demonstrated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Strong leaders require the character trait of fairness as it shows equal treatment and respect of
different opinions, and avoids many conflicts. Mackenzie King demonstrated fairness with the
English and French speakers in Canada to unite Canada as one, and to avoid conflicts. For
example, when King was first elected in 1921, his major goal was to unite all Canadians, mainly
focusing on Protestants and Catholics. A month prior to being elected, King wrote in his diary; A
United Canada I made the first consideration...I want farmers, labour, soldiers, business and
professions represented, and balance between Protestants, and Catholics. This demonstrates the
fairness Mackenzie King shows towards all labour workers and professions as well as both
Anglophones and Francophones, even before getting elected. His first consideration is a balance
between Protestants and Catholics , which displays the significance fairness has in King s eyes,
as it shows that King s first priority is the fairness between the two groups. Specifically,
Mackenzie King demonstrates his fairness with French and English during the Conscription Crisis
of 1944. To obtain the support from the French, King had pledged The present government
believes that conscription of men for overseas service would not be necessary or an effective step.

Examples Of First Impressions In The Great Gatsby
First impressions are considered to be very important because of the impulsive behavior that the
human race as adopted. The first humans may have utilized this behavior to set it apart from
other animals. However as the human race becomes more and more advanced, this behavior
may be more detrimental than beneficial. Today, an article must use an attractive headline to
trigger a person s impulsive instinct in order to be successful. The writer of a book must use a
colorful cover to trigger that instinct as well. But the headline or cover does not indicate the
quality of the writing. Just as the quality of a book cannot be judged by its cover, and the quality
of a paper cannot be judged by its introduction. A person cannot be judged by his exterior
appearance as well. F. Scott Fitzgerald s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
F. Scott Fitzgerald uses the narrator, Nick, to describe the Great Gatsby in the beginning of the
book The Great Gatsby. Nick described his first encounter with the Great Gatsby and portrayed
him to be just as great as his name implies. He smiled understandingly much more than
understandingly. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that
you may come across four or five times in life. It faced or seemed to face the whole external
world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor
(Fitzgerald 48). The Great Gatsby s exterior appearance was very majestic. Nick described The
Great Gatsby s ability to portray a character that was so brilliant, it triggered the impulsive
instinct to put the word great in front of his name. Even The Great Gatsby has his weaknesses
however. And later in the book that weakness comes in the form of the love of his life, Daisy
Buchanan. Just the presence of Daisy forced the word great out of his name, his brilliant persona had

Animal Testing Is Bad Science
Animals very rarely serve as models for the human body. Many people are brought up with the idea
that animal experimentation is necessary to insure the safety of humans, but in reality, these
experiments are creating only harm to animals. Animals have done nothing to deserve this backlash,
and by educating the public on the true unsuccessfulness of animal testing, the ethical side is forced
out in the open. The argument Animal Testing is Bad Science by the People for The Ethical
Treatment of Animals(PETA), argues that ethics dictate the value of each life, and that no life is
overthrown by another. This well formulated argument effectively integrates ethos, logos, powerful
structure, and robust premises to persuade the audience.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All premises given are paired with explicit claims to express proposals such as, no experiment, no
matter how painful or trivial is prohibited and reactions to drugs vary enormously from species to
species (PETA, 2015). By following the line of logic, the claim is already known.
Ethos
Through the use of credible and reliable sources, PETA s argument builds validity. The author
recounts President Richard Nixon sign[ing] the Conquest of Cancer Act in 1971 (PETA, 2015) to
introduce that any money raised for cancer is not stopping hundreds of thousands dying from it
each year, and that animals contributed as test objects for these newfound drugs are not suddenly
going to cure cancer. Since an American president is mentioned, the audience will trust the
upcoming evidence. Furthermore, the author establishes ethos with well known acts and
dependable doctors. Referencing the 40 percent of all research funding from the U.S. National
Institute of Health and organizations like the American Board of Anesthesiologists [whom] even
require physicians to complete simulation training not animal laboratories (PETA 2015). The first
reference represents the billions of dollars swallowed by animal experimentation funds. Citing
information from the U.S. Institute of Health notes the continued spending, even with countless
failed experiments. Ethos is held by the author due to the credible sources incorporated within

is also an easy way to portray emotion and give the listener a look inside the artist s mind. In the

the beauty of the story and also to foreshadow future events. Fortunato s songs throughout the
Marble Statue will prove to do all of these things and have huge importance to the development
of the story. The importance of music was present from the first time that Fortunato met Florio.
As their adventure together developed throughout the story many instances of music occurred.
Florio was drawn towards Fortunato due to his famous voice. When Florio stated, there is the
singer Fortunato (4), it proved his knowledge of Fortunato being a famous singer. He was
famous solely for the sound of his voice. His appearance was not recognizable but his voice drew
everyone to him. Every woman, man and child was intrigued and drawn to Fortunato due to his
unbelievable talent. They wanted to be around him, as his celebrity was unquestionable. During

Compare Sonnet 130 By Shakespeare
Poems use lots of different ways to express personal relationships. The authors of these poems can
use language, tone, structure and many other ways to convey personal relationships. The poem
Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy uses many of these aspects. The main idea of this poem is to
compare an onion to the lovea woman has for her lover. The poem Sonnet130 by Shakespeare also
uses language, tone, structure and imagery. This poem however uses them in a different way. This
poem is about how a man loves his wife/lover in his own special way. These two poems use
language, tone, structure, rhyme/rhythm and imagery to express a personal relationship.
Language is a very important part of every poem as it helps convey the author s message. Poems
can use lots of different language devices to convey the message and really grab the reader s
attention. You can use a simile, which is making a comparison of two things using like or as.
Like in Valentine it will blind you with tears like a lover is a simile. This shows how a lover can
leave you in tears when the leave you heartbroken. The same with an onion as when you cut deeper
into the onion, sort of its heart, the more it stings your eyes making you cry. Using this simile is
much more effective than just explaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sometimes the tone of a poem can be really obvious and other times it can be really hard to
figure out as there a multiple. There are several different tones a poem can have such as romantic,
bitter, honest and anger. In Valentine the tone is honest and romantic. For this poem it was easy to
find the tone as the poem is very clearly about love but it also shows the truth about it. Another
poem that uses honesty and romantic is Sonnet 130. This was also quite easy to find as the poem
is about how a man loves his lover in his own

  • 2. Mommy Monologue I had lived only four years when I became the person who I am today: a person who can become another in an instant. I am a vicious police officer, or an innocent young child; I am a scandalous sexy secretary, or a conservative old woman. I became someone who possesses the ability to transform into anyone or anything. I became an actor. I remember crying so hard that I gave myself my first migraine. Mommy used to tell me that it felt like a headache on steroids. I didn t know what steroids were, but I didn t like them if they made headaches this bad. I didn t want to be there. Mommy said that if I did well, then I d get to be someone else, but I didn t want to be someone else; I wanted to be me. And I was good at everything, so I knew that if... I thought that they just didn t like me. They weren t mean to anyone else. I sat there and I let my anger get bigger inside of me and I wanted my ice cream. Finally, everyone got done being other people but I still had to wait. Mommy said that the mean people (she called them directors) had to decide who got what part. I still didn t know what we got a part of. I hoped that the mean directors decided to give us all a part of the food that they had because I was hungry and I hadn t had my ice cream yet. They all came out of the room at the same time and they all held papers in their hands, but they didn t have food. Then they started calling names. I sat in my chair and I held Mommy s hand and I didn t pay attention. Little Baby sat on my lap and didn t say a word. Mommy sat on her chair and listened to the directors. The directors stood in front of everyone and kept calling names for a long time. I wanted ice cream with sprinkles (I thought I deserved sprinkles) and chocolate syrup and Alyssa Masula . • 3. The Day Of A Local Coffee Shop It was an average day in a local coffee shop. My life was average, nothing exciting. I lived in an average apartment in an average town. I worked an average job and went home and did average things. That is until I went to that average coffee shop on that average day. I was sitting at the table doing my last minute assignment for work. I looked up and sawa gorgeous girl walk in the coffee shop. She saw me too. I wasn t the kind of person to go up to someone I didn t know and start talking to them. Thankfully she was though. She came up to me and smiled, she told me her name was Aubree and I told her my name was Blair. Little did I know I had just met the person that would bring excitement to my life. We talked for an hour about our lives.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I woke up the next morning smiling, that s saying alot considering mornings are hell for me. I spent extra time working on my appearance this morning, I couldn t wait to see Aubree. I left for the coffee shop early, I didn t want to be late to meet her. When I walked in the coffee shop she was already there. I smiled at her and went and stood in line to get my coffee. After I got my coffee I went to go sit with her. I asked her Of course...It s a plan She happily exclaimed. Work went on much slower than usual, probably because I was waiting for the end of it. I was really excited to spend the weekend with Aubree, whether she felt the same way as me or not. I finally got out work and went home and packed for the weekend. After I was done I texted Aubree and told her I was on my way to the coffee shop. When I got to the coffee shop and I saw Aubree, Then my heart shattered as I noticed something else. Standing next to Aubree was a man, and they were holding hands in front of a car. I would have driven away but she never said she was single or even into girls. • 4. Privatizing the Public Sphere Essays Privatizing the Public Sphere The privatization and fragmentation of space in post industrial urban America is a widespread social problem. As society becomes even more globalized as a result of technological advances, the rampant spread of a privatized public realm is ever increasing. Public space is needed as a center in which to bring people together to share a common place. It is within public spaces that public life unfolds and without public spaces such as parks, streets, and buildings, the mixing of classes will become increasingly uncommon. Society is made up of two sectors: the private and public, and it is essential that both remain separate entities. However, through the use of fear tactics especially the threat of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of these factors work cohesively with one another by instilling a sense of fear into the lives of everyday citizens. Society is becoming more and more policed through the use of surveillance cameras on public walkways, gated communities, but especially, through systematic approaches used to create the feeling that public spheres are unsafe and something to be feared. Corporations are taking over the urban landscape. In previous years, many upper and middle class families fled to the suburbs to escape the everyday hustle of city life. However, in recent years, city living has become glamorized and thus the movement back into the city has increased. Once blighted inner city neighborhoods are being taken over and revitalized by corporate leaders in hopes to redesign and yuppify these areas. As more money is put into the area, the higher the market value goes up and as a result, many local residents can no longer afford to live there. While these residents are pushed out, a more desirable group of residents move in and thus, take over. This process, known as gentrification, is occurring in many cities all across the nation. In the past, displaced residents could possibly move to another area that was not undergoing this process. However, as we are seeing in Chicago, it is nearing impossibility to move to an area within the city that will not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reaction Paper On Perfume Perfume is mixture of fragrant aroma compounds or essential oils, the first evidence of the use of perfume by mankind dates back to the very old Egyptian civilizations around 2400 BC1. Throughout the ages, fragrances have become gradually more essential and accessible. Nowadays, the perfume business is a billion dollar industry 2. The companies also synthesize and trade the individual raw materials used in perfumes, the perfumestocks are relatively unknown companies that create and supply perfumes according to the wishes of their customers. The perfume raw materials are generally complex mixtures of synthetic or natural (e.g. essential oils) organic compounds, the fortitude of the composition of an unknown perfume, the so called perfume formulation process, is not an easy task. • 6. The Washington Redskins Name And Mascot The Washington Redskins name and mascot represents one of the most recognized American Indian figures in the United States. The controversial team name has been used since 1933, ever since changing from its original name Boston Braves . It has sparked a nationwide outcry among the remaining Native Americans who reside in the United States. Indians are forced to be reduced to cartoon savages, ferocious warriors, and animal like heathens. After centuries of rampant dismissal, removal, and destruction of this group, White Americans are still finding ways to subtly keep these barriers in place which separates them. The slow yet brutal destruction of their population took place from 1492 1891. According to the legal definition by the UN, this act is considered genocide which was perpetrated by both European colonizers and the United States government. Tensions escalated and soon they were dehumanized to the point where massacres such as Wounded Knee, hundreds of innocent Native Americans were slaughtered by American soldiers. A significant precedent of the genocide was when White Americans began making Indians the other . By viewing them as uncivilized creatures, it is easy to separate oneself from a group so different. The use of Native American mascots is detrimental to young American Indians and their psychological well being. When the mascot is constrained to a stereotypical demeanor, it also constrains the way contemporary American Indians see themselves. In mainstream media, Native Americans have little to no roles in movies, television, or music. The only well known Indians in American culture are conventional characters created by large corporations such as Disney s Pocahontas, Tonto from The Lone Ranger, and sports team s mascots. The few representations of Native Americans are nationally broadcasted and provide misleading and immoral assumptions on the targeted racial group. The select physical and behavior traits are then taken, modified, and dramatized to ultimately create a character for entertainment and profit. The presence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A few days ago, I was informed that Maritza s son, a friend of my childhood who lives in Peru, was involved in drug consumption and he died. She told me that she did her best efforts to get her son to abandon druguse. But, she lost the battle. In the same way, as national government of each country identifies interferences or threats against its state, it performs its best efforts to eliminate these risks in order to raise life standards of people, to develop, to grow, to improve its laws, and to get a better education among other things. • 12. Role Of Chivalry In Beowulf The role of chivalry is a complicated concept for solitary heroes within Beowulf and Albrecht DГјrer s Knight, Death, and the Devil. In Beowulf, the concept of chivalry is explained through the eyes of the hero, Beowulf, which is the idea of performing chivalrous actions in the face of death for glory; however, Beowulfdoes not realize that his actions will not keep his people safe in the end. In Knight, Death and the Devil, the idea of chivalry is the motivation of the knight on religious grounds to be chivalrous in the face of death. The Knight gives the impression that he understood that his actions would ultimately be meaningless, and he appears resigned to the idea. The argument can be made that chivalry is unsustainable in both texts, given that while it inspires these heroes to pursue these tasks, the result is that they believe that mild sacrifices, such as their own life, must be made to ensure victory; however, these two texts differ with their heroes anticipated outcomes of their sacrifices, which turns out to be for nothing. Despite having different outcomes of operating within a system of chivalry, these two texts similarly critique the outcomes of chivalry as being unsustainable based on the demands it places on heroes to sacrificethemselves. To defend this claim, I will begin by similarly critiquing how chivalry is unsustainable within both texts. I will then express how both texts show the unsustainability results from the demands of sacrifice. I will then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Drivers in the Twin Cities spend an average of 63 hours per year stuck in traffic according to a 2015 survey done by TomTom, a GPS navigation company. In hopes of solving the traffic problem, the first rail line in Minnesota opened back in 2004. Since then there has been a Green Line extension from St. Paul to Minneapolis. The original Blue Line provided 10.6 million rides as of last year and the Green Line has provided 12.4 million rides. Both lines have contributed to the decrease to the overall ridership of the Metro bus system. Due to the success of the Minneapolis light railsystem there has been plans to expand it even further. In May 2010, a southwest Green Line extension was finally approved. The southwest light rail would extend the green line fourteen and a half miles. Adding sixteen new stations beginning in downtown Minneapolis and running through St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka, and Eden Prairie. The total estimated cost for the project is $1.858 billion, costing the state of Minnesota a total of $30.3 million. The rest of the funding comes from various sources such as Counties Transit Improvement Board, Hennepin Country Regional Railroad Authority, Metropolitan Council, in kind land transfers, and other local contributions. • 14. The Consumer Culture Of The 1920s The 1920s was a decade filled with prosperity, chaos, and excitement. During the 1920s, many ground breaking inventions were introduced, such as the Model T Ford, the radio, and the television. The discoveries and cultural developments of the 1920s would go on to shape America for decades to come. The 1920s was arguably one of the most important decades in American history, in regards to the impact it had on American culture and way of life. Such an important decade should have a nickname, thus the 1920s were called the Roaring 20s. The decade of the 1920s is referred to as roaring because it was a time of dramatic social change, as demonstrated by the birth of a consumer society, the rise of a party culture, and the abandonment of long standing morals. The 1920s are described as roaring because major social developments occurred during the 20s, as shown by the creation of a consumer culture. The Great Gatsby depicts the consumer society when Fitzgerald s fictional character Daisy Buchanan bawls, They re such beautiful shirts, she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. It makes me sad because I ve never seen such such beautiful shirts before, (Fitzgerald 99). Fitzgerald s portrayal of the fictional character Daisy represents the consumer culture of the 1920s; Americans were obsessed with materialistic wealth. Also, during the 1920s, the economic wealth of America increased by twofold, granting many American families with a newfound disposable income. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then the actions on both sides which lead up to the final removal of all Indians to west of the Mississippi in 1830 s. The government as well as the Americans attitudes toward the Indians at the beginning of the Revolution was pretty much the same as Thomas Jefferson s, which was that given time the Indians could possibly change their ways and conform to white society s way of life. The Indian removal had a profound impact on both the Indians as well as the white settlers. Each one felt they were justified in their actions because each was doing what was best for their families and their way of life. The Indians felt they were between a rock and a hard place. Whom to side with? On one hand, were the British who seemed to want to protect the Indian territories, on the other were the Patriots who were aggressively taking more and more land. Many Americans are familiar with the two groups, Puritans and Pilgrims, but most don t know the differences between them. The Puritans began a group of people that were members of the Anglican Church. Their goals were to rid the church of any remaining influences from Catholicism. They were mainly English Protestants of the 16th century who wanted to follow the Calvinist model of religion rather than the ever present Catholicism. Several Puritans lost faith in the Anglican Church and felt it could never be completely purified from all Catholic influence; as a result they abandoned the Church and completely separated themselves from the Anglican religion. These Puritans where referred to as Separatists. The remaining majority of Puritans inherited the title of non separating Puritans, over time these two groups would become increasingly hostile toward each other. The Puritans wanted to remain a part of the English establishment, and work toward reforming the church from within. All the while they immigrating to New England, they still held onto their English heritage, and their main emphasis in forming a new colony was to be a biblical witness so to say, the city on a hill . Their objective was to set a shining example... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The utility of each outcome is weighted depending on the probability of which outcome will it be led to. (Stanford University, 2014) On the other hand, the form of prospect theory is developed by Kahneman Tversky (1992) through a value function (1979), which is defined on gains and losses that related to a reference point, and is normally curving inward for gains, commonly curving outward for losses. Additionally, prospect theory can be defined as a descriptive model of decision making under risk, which is designed to better explain how individuals actual make choices between different options and prospects. It also evaluates an outcome based on the alternation of total resources and judges by gains and losses that related to the status. Doctoral Seminar: Research Methodology I November 3rd, 2011 Stefan Bischoff, HSG (11 618 303) Tanja Rädler, ETH (04 1820 02) 1. Introduction In a research project the researcher is either provided with a research idea by an organization /university or he/she has to generate it by himself/herself. In both cases defining the research question is of major importance for the success of the research project. Strong hypotheses give insight into a research question and give a hint on what we will find when we answer the research question. A hypothesis gives therefore an a priori answer to the research question. Punch (1998) makes the following connection between hypothesis and research question: A specific research question states what we are trying to find out. The hypothesis predicts, a priori, the answer to that question. Punch (1998) suggest that we do not need a hypothesis in any case. It only makes sense when we have an explanation in mind behind the hypothesis. A further question we should ask is what answer we expect and why. If we expect a certain answer only because previous research has found it to be true, we do not need to propose a hypothesis. To summarize and find out whether a hypothesis is reasonable one can follow figure 1. Is a hypothesis reasonable? Do you have an explanation in mind for the question? Yes Is the expected answer predictable? Yes Is the answer predictable due to previous research? No It is suggested to formulate a hypothesis Figure 1: Decision scheme to decide whether a hypothesis is necessary for a research project (based on Punch, 1998) 3.

  • 25. The Effects Of Ozone Depletion The ozone depletion has been well documented to negatively affect planet Earth for years. The ozone is a thin layer of the EarthВґs atmosphere which is responsible for absorbing the sun s harmful ultraviolet light ( What is Ozone Layer?,2017). The loss of ozone on earth will take a toll on human health, plants and marine ecosystems, ultimately resulting in a planet that does not support living things. Today, this manifests in climate change. It is easy for many to confuse these two issues, although they are connected in various ways. Loss of the ozone layer is caused by greenhouse gases such as chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs (compounds with chlorine and/or fluorine attached to carbon), as well as , halons (similar compounds with bromine or iodine) (Jain 2015). These chemicals can stay in the atmospherefor up to 100 years causing damage(What is Ozone Layer?,2017). Greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, contribute to global warming, which then contributes to climate change by warming the surface and waters. These factors are resulting in a domino effect on our environment. Climate change is classified as an abrupt increase in the Earths temperatures typically caused by human activity (National Aeronautics Space Administration 2016). The geological horizons containing these deposits were named by the German Palaeontologist Adolf Seilacher in 1985 (Nudds Seldon, 2008), Lager meaning Stratum and StГ¤tte meaning place (Allaby, 2013). Palaeontologists divide fossil LagerstГ¤tten into two types; Konservant LagerstГ¤tten (Nudds Seldon, 2008), or conservation deposits, are horizons that show exceptional preservation of organisms, this may also include soft part preservation in some cases (Clarkson, 1998). This type of preservation usually occurs due to the inhibition of decay of the soft tissue (Briggs, 2014). For marine fossils, this can occur because of either rapid burial of the biota (Clarkson, 1998) or deposition in areas of low oxygen concentration (Briggs, 2014). The second type is Konzentrat LagerstГ¤tten (Nudds Seldon, 2008) or concentration LagerstГ¤tten, which are deposits on certain horizons in which an exceptionally large number of fossil have been preserved. These usually occur when there has been a low rate of sedimentation over a time period (Clarkson, 1998). Discovered by Charles Walcott in 1909, The Burgess Shaleis an example of conservation LagerstГ¤tte (Briggs, 2014). Minnesota passed a law in 1999 (Minnesota Statute 144.651, subdivision 33) which established explicitly the right of residents or residents decision makers to request physical restraints. It also specified that legitimate medical reasons for using a physical restraint include: 1) a concern for the physical safety of the resident; and 2) physical or psychological needs expressed by a resident. A resident s fear of falling may be the basis of a medical symptom. Studies in the 1980 s indicated that restraints were more likely to cause harm rather than prevent it. I believe Dr. House expresses the skill of delegation the best out of a skills, but he needs to be always available to his subordinates in case of issues. Availability as a supervisor helps boost morality, production, and understanding throughout the work area. Most employees would choose to work for a supervisor or manager that is moving around and checking up on their employees, rather than a person hiding behind a desk the whole day delegating work through a phone, calling employees to the office for instruction, or intercom. In the show, Dr. House is rarely sitting in his office during the day. He is in and out of hospital rooms checking up on doctors, nurses, and patients. As I explained before, he has some bizarre and questionable techniques, but he has a better understanding of the situation in each room to make these decisions. A manager sitting in an office and not leaving cannot and should not make these decisions because they do not know the situation. Having that experienced individual around also helps boost the employee s confidence because if there is a mess up, Dr. House will be watching over to ensure the procedures are correct. Last, he understands each situation, and if a problem arises suddenly, he does not need a long brief of what is going on. He can get right to work with the solution. The report includes areas such as defining an IPO, the performance of IPO s, the current market for IPO s, and the process of buying an IPO. Therefore, the feasibility report is directed at the retail or non professional investor who may be engaged in purchasing IPO s. I look to determine if the underlying facts create certainty that these instruments are profitable currently and in the long run. It appears through study that investors have increased their consumption of initial public offerings since the 2007 2008 financial crisis. Many investors believe purchasing IPO s can create quick realized gains. However, it appears that the performance of these issues has lagged the broader market, which in my opinion should steal zeal from these risky investments. The figures throughout this report should indicate and reaffirm that not all IPOs, whether popular or unpopular, will benefit the professional or non professional investor. It must be noted that not everything is the same in financial markets and results may vary significantly from this report in a single incident or sample study. During the 1930 s the labor movement gained due to the abundance of labor, employers easily replaced workers. Labor unions were established in order for workers to get organized and bargain for their needs and rights. These unions were created because it was known that groups have more power in bargaining than individuals. When large groups of employees make joint decisions, employers are forced to listen to their concerns. For example, if all the workers in a factory stopped working at the same time, it would be difficult to keep the company operating. Early unions in North America faced a difficult battle. Employers refused to accept the unions. The courts often declared the unions illegal. The National Labor Relations Act of 1935 and other laws required employers to bargain with unions. Political parties and other groups have also become involved with the labor movement (Labor Movement). Understanding the legal ramifications involved both with and without a union is a necessity for all human resource professionals.
