Essay On Dabbawalla
Mumbai Dabbawalla: – A Model of Service Excellence– A Strategic Analysis
Introduction:
If we look at the history of India over the last century, we get many examples of historic companies such as the Godrej Group, TATA Steel, ITC and
many more that have bravely faced the emerging market situation of India, the recessions and have successively managed to sustain themselves till
date. But rarely do we find examples of organizations started by a group of illiterate men from the rural hinterlands of Pune and Mumbai to establish a
successful cooperative model that has sustained itself through decades, today popularly known as the Mumbai Dabbawallas. They predominantly work
on end to end delivery of homemade food from their residence to their offices. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence due to flat organizational structure information symmetry exists at all levels.
Acute visibility
The beauty of the dabbawalla–based system is that all of the dabbawallas understand exactly what is happening and when – to the minute. If certain
deadlines and hand–offs are missed, people don't eat. It's as simple as that. hence they make sure everyone within their chain understands their roles
and responsibility, where they need to be at a particular time and what needs to be done if they run behind schedule.
Organizational culture and shared values
Typically, the age range of dabbawalla ranges from 18–65 and they remain in their groups for the entire working lives and hence through this a strong
sense of bonding is developed among the dabbawallas. The new members recruited are typically friends or relatives of existing dabbawallas and they
belong to same culture, language, possess same values etc. It is said that dabbawallas originally hail from

Why Do People Come Home In The 1950s
When I visualize the 50's I picture a man in a suit and tie coming home from a long day's work in his car. Then he opens the door to his home to see
a perfectly clean house, his gorgeous wife, and his two children dressed neatly in their Sunday best, but it's just a regular Tuesday evening. Next, he
will sit in his favorite chair while his better half gets him a drink and prepares a home cooked meal. The kids have now given daddy hugs and kisses
and are playing outside until mom will ring the dinner bell. This vision does ring some truth concerning what life was like back in the 1950's, but
there was much more happening outside the walls of this suburban home. This period of time in American history was a great time to be alive with the

It is believed that this word was introduced to the English language because of the new way adolescents acted. They no longer tried to be like their
adult parents. Rock and Roll was a new genre of music during this time period and loved by the youth, but dismissed by the elders of the time. It
was considered childish and immoral music, but the teenagers were rebellious and continued to indulge themselves with the music even though
their parents did not approve. Artists like Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry were popular rock and roll musicians and brought the genre to life
making the youth fall even harder for the new sound. Now because this was the middle of the baby boomer generation, there were a considerable
amount of teenagers and this caused a change in our culture. Many social aspects were tailored to the youths liking, such as movies, magazines, and
clothes. There was now a prevalent market for kids from the age of thirteen to eighteen. Movies like "Gidget" and "Teenage Rebel" or the magazine
"16" are examples that illustrate how industries were trying to make films and other products tailored to the teens' desires. This was rather new in that
time period and still exists today. We have whole T.V. channels, stores, magazines, and movies that are geared toward the youth of America. Now one
reason these products were so successful was the fact that there were more parents of this generation who were well off and

Descriptive Essay About My Neighborhood
"Go to your houses and lock every door and window." I remember hearing the intercom speakers say throughout the neighborhood. My neighborhood is
usually known as the Sun Rays Neighborhood Complex. It consists of twenty–two mansions. Most people who don't live here think that we are rude
and snotty people. My best friend Brooke lives in the house next to mine. Well she used to be my best friend, but we haven't really talked since eighth
grade. I miss being close friends with Brooke, although we still kind of keep in touch through social media. Luckily Brooke will be transferring to Sun
Rays High School with me this junior year. The other day Brooke texted me, asking if I wanted to hang out with her. I told her sure, but I was a bit
confused why she just randomly asked me to hang out. "Hey Lauren!" Brooke shouted from her yard. "Oh, hi Brooke how are you?". "Good." Said
Brooke. "I was wondering if you wanted to come over earlier?" "Sure I'll be right over." I said walking back inside. So I went inside and quickly
packed a bag. We played soccer in her yard, we made cookies, and also watched a movie. Then around six I went home. It was really fun getting to
catch up with each others lives. After a few weeks Brooke and I hung out a lot more, and we started doing a lot of things together. Two weeks before
school started Brooke was over at my house because her parents were dropping her brothers off at college. Brooke was at my house for six days. We

The War Of The Great Depression
The post 1945 period was an interesting time to live in America. It is during this period that the American dream became a reality for most
Americans. Years of intensive wartime sacrifice were over and gone was the poverty borne out of the Great Depression. The American dream was
being redefined and here stood a chance to own a house in your own land, a car and a dog. Families that had put on hold getting another child finally
put away their worries and the country experienced a post war baby boom. Despite all the positives, it was also during this period that racial fears
were ripe. This coupled with the desire to vacate the decaying cities is what prompted a huge number of white Americans to move to the suburbia area.
Within a very short time, suburbs had become very popular and they created an illusion of a perfect traditional family. They became the latest
glamorous countryside and every rich individual wanted to be part of this perfection. There was however difficulties that was experienced in the
suburbs as a swelling population was experienced. The three novels White house, Revolutionary road and parts of Mrs. Browns The hours all show
the plight of Suburban American both in comic and tragic lights. In Revolutionary road, there is possibly no other novel that perfectly captures the
uneasiness of the middle class American Suburban Community in the post war period. The book shows what it is like to try and lead a revolutionary
life in the American suburb. During the

Las Vegas Water Cop Research Paper
The article I will be reporting on is called "A day in the life of a Las Vegas water cop " it is about a man named Perry Kane and what a day in his
job looks like. First off if you're wondering what a water cop is , it is a person who patrols the city and enforces the water rules . Some of the
things a water cop looks out for is water spilling onto the sidewalks, sprinklers on after the designated hours and leaky irrigation systems. Perry
Kane is one of the eighteen employees in the Las Vegas water cop industry.During this article it happened to be a slow day and he didn't have much
to do . So as a result , he was checking up on recent violators to ensure they have made the approved changes to their water systems and also just
patrolling in general. Perry goes on to explain that the city of Summerlin is actually in great condition at the moment. He tells how when he first
began his job ten years ago that the city had a really big problem. He states that the gutter were always full in the past but since Las Vegas has made

Speech On Travel In Mumbai
Bombay was also known as Mumbai. When Britishers came to India they change a lot of cities name and Bombay was the one in it. After Britishers
went back, Bombay was called by Mumbai. Mumbai is the dream city of every Indian because Mumbai is the biggest city in India. Approximately,
more than 15 million people live in Mumbai and it is a big city. The dangerous thing in Mumbai is the trains of Mumbai's local station. It is very risky
to travel I the travel in Mumbai.
I have traveled in train in Mumbai and that the first and last time I traveled on the train. From my personal experience, I would say that it's really
risky and dangerous to travel. There are 1000 of people who die because of the traffic and because of traveling in a train. On page 158, the last line of
the 1st paragraph, Nasirbhai talks about people who put their life in danger because of their job. That is so true because in Mumbai people can't afford
to lose their job because Mumbai is so costly and the traffic of Mumbai last forever so people choose train instead of driving their own car. So they risk
their life daily by going on a train.
I found that shocking about 20,706 Mumbaikers was killed on the trains in the last five years. That's too much and it really shocking fact. So many

Now or Never
Now or Never "When should we leave? Should we leave now?" I said to my friends Sean, Charlie, Nick, Ben, Megan, and Melanie. We were on our
second day of spring break, in our high school senior year, getting ready to hit the road and get on our way to Destin, Florida. It was a frantic time
before we were actually on our official way. Of course, it was traffic hour when we all decide to leave, that just added to the chaos. We weren 't
going on this trip alone though, we were going with a whole flock of people. There were seven parent chaperones and about fourteen other friends
/ siblings and a couple of their friends too. With all of these people we obviously weren 't going to fit into one car. We took three cars between all of us.

We were slammed packed, but we were all young and nimble. We all loved each other dearly; we were all best friends. Now we have all the pieces to
our puzzling friends together, and I finally caught back up to the rest of the caravan by dusk. It took us twenty–two hours to make it there. We had
twenty–two hours left.
Once we were there the wild times times began to brew. The guys and the girls each had their own condo, that alone I think says a lot about the
mood of the trip. It was party party from the moment we arrived in Florida. Day three of the trip, I was enjoying some adult beverages since I was
on vacation. Drinking is something we would do as a family when we went on vacation, mostly wine though. This time it was vodka and coconut rum,
and just enough to make me feel great. In my mind, I was on top of the world. My buddy Sean's parents rented a three wheel motorcycle/go–cart
hybrid that I knew I could drive. Sean's little brother drove it away from his parents with me in shotgun, aka the passenger 's seat. This thing drove
like a motorcycle, so I thought it could handle like a motorcycle. Corey, Seans little brother, squeezed the thing down the sidewalk to beat traffic and
into the condominium parking lot. The condos we stayed at were right on a golf course. We drove around that place like we owned it. We took turns
driving it. I went out the condo parking lot into the grass and back towards our condo with the throttle all the way down. I

American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes and The Virgin...
Reality. Merriam Webster's Online Dictionary defines reality as "something that is neither derivative nor dependent but exists necessarily." But what is
real by today's standards? Does what appears to be normal equal reality? By looking at two different films it seems that the old cliche stands correct.
Things aren't as they appear. American Beauty and TheVirgin Suicides give classic examples of how "normal" and "happy" suburban life is anything
but. American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes (1999) and The Virgin Suicides, directed by SofiaCoppola (2000), share many of the same themes even
though the plots are contrasted. Underneath the layers of white picket fences, beautiful houses, and safe neighborhoods, lies a truth. A truth so dark...

For they too were in their own cells. They both were confined to the hurt and desperation of having one of their children take her own life. Was it
because of failure on their parts? The answer to this they will never know. And so they will continue to live in the prison of ignorance.
Other elements that are seen throughout both of these films are infatuation and obsession. Anyone who has seen the movie American Beauty can
not miss Lester's obsession with Angela, his daughter's classmate and friend. He first sees her when he and Carolyn go to see their daughter
perform at the school basketball game. Instantly he became mesmerized by her beauty and couldn't stop the feelings he had for her. Obviously they
were strictly sexual feelings. Is this normal? Is it normal for a father to have any kind of feelings for their daughter's friend? It may be normal but it
is not what is correct. And so in order to portray the perfect family Lester tried for a while to suppress the feelings he was having for Angela.
Carolyn is also a victim of obsession. She is overly obsessed with appearances. She often makes comments to Jane about the way she looks. She
feels that she cannot be happy unless she is presented in an ideal way. "Because of the necessity to keep up appearances, a serene facade often
conceals a breeding ground for dysfunction, anxiety, and hypocrisy" (Berardinelli). An example of this is when she is trying to sell a

The Hate U Give Character Analysis

neighborhood, she is ridiculed for acting arrogant. The balance between the two lives she constantly moves between is shattered when her best

Personal Narrative: My Hometown Lake Forest
I was raised in an affluent community in the North Suburbs of Chicago. My hometown Lake Forest is sometimes stereotyped for being full of "out

affect the urban Chicago communities like gun violence, gangs, and poor neighborhoods. Yes, we have beautiful homes that sit along the shores of
Lake Michigan, a lovely community beach, and good schools; however, I would like the stereotype of Lake Forest being a suburban town that is not
aware of surrounding community issues to change because I believe this is not deserved. There will always be those few that can spoil it for others by

Women Hollering Creek Essay
Waiting for Freedom
In the story "Woman Hollering Creek" Sandra Cisneros discusses the issues of living life as a married woman through a character named Cleofilas;
a character who is married to a man who abuses her physically and mentally .Cisneros reveals the way the culture puts a difference between a male
and a female, men above women. Cisneros has been famous about writing stories about the latino culture and how women are treated; she explain what
they go through as a child, teen and when they are married; always dominated by men because of how the culture has been adapted. "Woman

She doesn't know being beaten by her husband is not a normal thing. She is living in the suburbs with her husband with neighbors who in their own
way, are trapped as well. Cisneros also shows how life can be for Cleofilas when a mom is not present to guide heir, again, Cleofilas's only guide are
the television series. "The creek, the televonelas and the border define the mythic spaces given to Cleofilas in her fantasies of escape from a battering
husband."(Mullen 6) The town which Cisneros chose to have as the setting of the story, there isn't much for her to do;" in the town where she grew up,
there isn't much to do except accompany the aunts and godmothers to the house of one or the other to play cards."(Cisneros 44) Using that, Cisneros
helps the reader to get a taste of how the environment is. An environment which women don't have a say in, an environment where woman don't have
the equal power as men; the environment Cleofilas was raised in.
In the story, Cleofilas starts living in a house in a suburban area. Beaten and neglected by her husband in a house distant from her fathers house" She
is beaten by her husband and trapped in a suburban house between two women who are equally trapped: Dolores by the memory of her dead husband
and sons, and Soledad, whose husband either died or ran away"(Thomas 3),Both women are in a strange situation "The neighbor lady Soledad liked to

Analyzing The Poem 'Poetry Of Departures'
The poem "Poetry of Departures" is concerned with the boredom that living in the same routine every single day brings. It deals with fantasies of
departure and escaping from that boring life to explore new ways of living. But, in the end the poem dismisses those idea of departure as mere
fantasies or "artificial" as the poem says. In the first verse of the poem "Sometimes you hear, fifth–hand, As epitaph: He chucked up everything And
just cleared off, And always the voice will sound Certain you approve This audacious, purifying, Elemental move." the author approves of the idea of
departuring or escaping from the daily life by calling such an act "This audacious, purifying, Elemental move". In the second verse of the poem "And

in the third verse "He walked out on the whole crowd Leaves me flushed and stirred, Like Then she undid her dress Or Take that you bastard; Surely
I can, if he did? And that helps me to stay Sober and industrious. But I'd go today," the author goes on to say that he would leave his current life. But,
in the final verse "Yes, swagger the nut–strewn roads, Crouch in the fo'c'sle Stubbly with goodness, if It weren't so artificial, Such a deliberate step
backwards To create an object: Books; china; a life Reprehensibly perfect." he steps back from his previous claim that he would leave and calls that
idea of departure as artificial or unrealistic. In Cheever's story "The Country Husband", similar ideas of departure from the boring and chaining

Descriptive Essay On Suburban Life
I don't know if the American Dream in its current form is dead, with the large homes fenced off with white picket fences, a lush green yard in the
front, an expansive yard in the back, and the entire family together in that home that they own. I'm honestly not sure if people still want that
specific idealized image of a house in the suburbs as their actual permanent home. As a young person who is sometimes considered a Millennial
depending on who you ask, I can only speak of my own experiences as well as of those around me. As a city kid, growing up in a small walkup in
the middle of Queens, I was kind of in between the suburb/urban lifestyle where I was only a few minutes from the city life and on a very quiet
Sunday afternoon, lived the suburban life. It sucked. I was in a neighborhood where the rents were constantly rising but the actual condition of the area
was getting worse. There was constant construction, grifters, rats, bad neighbors, car accidents, and decaying infrastructure. Trees were cut down near
my house and the roots were left to rot. Yet, everywhere I went, houses were being bought, renovated, and rented out. And people were moving in. I
couldn't understand why. And then I went to college where dorming was an option. And my sister wanted to move out and was apartment hunting. We
both so desperately wanted that chance of being independent from our parents, living it out in Manhattan. But we couldn't. It was too expensive to
move out. Coming from a upper

Marketing Strategy For The Chevrolet Tahoe Campaign
O.P.E.N. involves on–demand, personal, engaging and networked. Open branding is a brand shifts its communication platform from traditional to
innovative. This novel platform allows customers to share their thoughts and ideas directly on the marketer's website. With the increase number of new
technologies, customers are no longer interested in traditional market because the traditional market lacks communication with their customers and this
results in lower consumer loyalty for a brand. Open branding strategy gives the traditional market an opportunity to improve their relationships with
customers. Consumers want to engage more on market today, and they want their voice to be heard, so many brands shift their strategies to keep their
paces in the digital era.
Positive and Negative Aspects of the Chevy Tahoe Campaign Positive aspects. TheChevrolet Company took a big step forward in its advertising
campaign last spring. The company decided to have a new promotional form which was to run an ad contest that people can post their video clips
about the Chevy Tahoe in its website. The benefit for this approach is to involve people who are really interested in the company's products in
conversation (Rose, 2006). By doing the customer–generated advertising, Chevrolet enhances the relationship with its customers and establishes the
customer loyalty. People can share their thoughts and participate in the communication which means they have the power to influence the brand and the

On–demand Personal Engaging Networked... O.P.E.N. branding a powerful marketing framework that connects a brand's purpose with its customer's

are tired of being told what to, how to act, and what to try. And if the consumers don't like it brands control their voices as well as mute the opinions.
Old marketing techniques owned all the control from the message down to the consumer, feedback happened only when it was available; the

Chevy in turn let it all happen while sitting back and watching what consumers of all types had to say. It like in PR and Advertising the media strongly
controls everything.
Negative Aspects: The idea was not completely thought through on how to enter into open branding waters and stay afloat. In the Chevy ads
consumers were slamming the company with what others already talk about–– bad gas mileage, oversized bulky SUV, and lack of eye catching interior.
Chevy's intent was not for full out crazy entries to spread unto social media and become a full out circus but for loyal brand and evangelistic Tahoe
owners to engage. To engage in media is not something that happens overnight it has to be thought out. At first it doesn't take off try again... Being
open is a process and the future of marketing.
c.Given the negative postings, what action would you have recommended for Chevrolet and why?
My recommendation would be to keep going, once you are in the race you can't stop running. Chevy had already opened the gate to engaging with
their consumers and could not turn back now. If they had went on the site and took down those displeasing ads it would have looked like they were
trying to hide something, pretentious, and just like every other big name nontransparent corporation. What could've been done was to change the tone

Persephone And The Pomegranate
"The only legend I have ever loved is/ the story of a daughter lost in hell," starts the tragic and deeply personal poem The Pomegranate. Here, and
throughout the poem, Boland allegorically refers to the Greek myth for the seasons to explain her fear of her daughter's growth into adulthood.
The myth tells of Mother earth, Demeter, and her daughter Persephone who is kidnapped by Hades to be his wife in the Underworld. Deeply saddened,
Demeter stops tending for the earth and as a result the crops stop growing. Zeus begs Hades to release Persephone so that the humans do not starve.

The American Dream In The Virgin Suicides
Jeffrey Eugenides' novel, "The Virgin Suicides," depicts the lives of the Lisbon family. Within the novel, we as readers, learn about the lives or more
like the suicides of the 5 Lisbon girls: Cecilla, Lux, Bonnie, Mary, and Therese. Through the suicides, Eugenide connects the fictional world of thenovel
to the nonfictional world that we live in. Along with this, he also depicts his messages through different themes such as the lack of freedom. Finally,
Eugenides uses different postmodern approaches to his novel in order to stress importance. "The Virgin Suicides" shows a clear depiction as to how
the fictional world in the novel can relate to the nonfictional world. Eugenindes uses two different concepts that prove this connection. One
connection is the presence of suicide. Another one is the depletion of the American Dream. Each of these components comes together in order to
connect to nonfictional world that we live in. As readers can see from the title of the book, suicides will be a huge part of the novel. In the fictional
world of the book, readers see the suicides of 5 young sisters who all take their lives in different ways except for two of them. ... Show more content on

mission statement posted in all classrooms including kindergarten classes where students can not quite read them yet. I don't think many people in the
general public can see the true value in school culture, but appreciate when it is positive. Our district boasts a clear mission and vision and shared
values are communicated through a newly adopted tag–line: A Community of Encouragement, A Culture of Excellence.
Because climate and culture are so closely related I like to make the analogy that climate is the talk of a building and culture is the walk. Often there is
a positive climate, but the culture is lagging. When leadership has a strong vision for both climate and culture, then the building as a whole is
talking the talk and walking the walk. I continue to view climate and culture through two lenses, and understand that the lines are often blurred
between the two. In open schools where climate and culture are strong, new leadership is tasked with getting a pulse on the existing situation, but
with some explicit details as to enable the continuation of both. New leadership in a building with a less than positive climate and culture is tasked
with identifying the missing elements and diligently establishing a vision to begin to develop a positive and effective open school. Both new
leaders will need time. Both situations require a process. Knowing the importance of all these pieces to the puzzle will enable me to either model
what I've observed, or maintain depending on weather I am a principal in a district similar to mine or very different. It will be a challenge for me to
keep the process slow and steady if much

The Similarities Between Sal And Lex In Jurassic Park
All the characters are different, but they all have a few key similarities. Tom wanted to be independent and noble, but Sal and Lex both wanted to
understand, from Sal wanting to know about her mom the Lex craving to know her situation and safety. This shows how there can be connections
between books that do not have the same plot, story, characters, or even timeline as others.
For example, Sal's mother passed away in a bus accident and this consequently compels her to want to know more. This is important for the reader to
know as it helps them understand what is happening as the story develops. It also helps them understand the reason that Sal went on this road trip, to
see her mother's grave. Because of this, it helps the reader understand that Sal is not bringing her mother home physically, but mentally will never
forget this journey. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lex grew up in a suburban home with everything she ever wanted, but now that her parents are getting a divorce she has a need to know. She wants
to know why. This is also good for readers to know because it helps them understand the mental changes she went through in Jurassic Park. She has
come accustomed to a lavish lifestyle, not having her life torn up and being in danger from savage dinosaurs. This shows the change keeps the readers
informed on why Michael Crichton is doing what he is

The poet's role is to challenge the world the see around them.' How far is this true for the poetry of Bruce Dawe? How (ie through what techniques)
Does Dawe achieve this? Discuss a maximum of 2 poems.
Bruce Dawe is one of the most inspirational and truthful poets of our time. Born in 1930, in Geelong, most of Dawe's poetry concerns the common
person – his poems are a recollection on the world and issues around him. The statement 'The poet's role is to challenge the world they see around
them.' Is very true for Bruce Dawe, as his main purpose in his poetry was to depict the unspoken social issues concerning the common Australian
suburban resident. His genuine concern for these issues is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children are innocent until we pollute their minds with the filth of society is what Dawe is saying. Owen describes the sky as "Littered with stars",
ironically, as the stars are pure and not soiled with the filth of mankind. Thus by saying the sky is littered with stars, he is taking the point of view of
society – the fact that they would want to bring order and conformity to everything. These stars are scattered across the sky in an unorderly fashion,
and "no one had got around to fixing [them] up yet". He is highlighting that society takes beautiful, unadulterated natural things and pollutes them with
their rules and regulations. Moving from childhood to the middle ages in but a few lines, highlighting that it's not worth mentioning the rest of his
childhood, as it was all had too much of a resemblance to what has already been said. There is a quick and noticeable change of tone as the man is
described as a "money–hungry", "back stabbing" and "miserable", no longer the image of innocence as he was portrayed in the first 4 stanzas. Not
guarded by adolescence any more, he enters the real world and is instantly polluted with the filth of society. He says goodbye to the stars – their natural
splendour no longer interests him, he is now a part of the materialistic world. He will no longer show any emotion, and he is now 'realistic', in other
words, fake. The following dialogue is a symbol of the man's beliefs, what he has been taught and what he now accepts

A Lie Is What Kept Me Free
A Lie Is What Kept Me Free
Lies often overcomplicate situations by causing a person to have to continually tell more lies to cover up the original, when he or she could have just
told the truth in the beginning. However, the problem is that the other option is not always so great either. Thetruth is perfectly honest, and that can
cause one to get in trouble. I believe the main reason why we, as humans, lie is to protect ourselves and to protect the things for which we have much
affection. Once, I had told a lie to keep myself from getting into more trouble than telling the truth would gotten me. This lie protected from losing
what was the most important thing I had at the time, my freedom. This is the story of the time I lied to protect my freedom. To understand why I
lied, it is primarily important to understand why I believe my freedom was at risk. I grew up in a sheltered environment in the sense that for a
long time I was sheltered from much of the outside world and sheltered from making my own decision. For example, my parents believed that I
wasn't ready to sleep over a friend's house, whose parents they had known for five years, until I was in high school. Due to this upbringing, I felt a
severe lack of personal freedom when I entered high school. I believed that I would get more freedom when I turned sixteen and would be legally old
enough to drive because I had always been a well–behaved kid. However around the time I turned fifteen, my parents began to argue

Essay on John Cheever & Suburban Life
5 April 2006
John Cheever and the Suburban Life The average person from suburban America can be either valiant, pathetic, or both. This is the description of an
American suburbanite according to John Cheever, an American novelist and short story writer during the fifties, sixties, and seventies. Cheever, an
award winning writer, balances hope, uncertainty, and anxiety in his stories' characters. In Cheever's "The Swimmer", the main character, Neddy
Merrill, incorporates this description into his actions. The actions of Neddy Merrill can be compared to those of Francis Weed, the main character of
Cheever's "The Country Husband". "The Swimmer" and "The Country Husband", however different the plots of each may be, each analyze the suburban

He believes that in doing so, he is a lively person. "–and while he was far from young he had slid down his banister that morning..." (Cheever 186). As
part of his goal to retain youth, Neddy decides to swim through each pool in his county in order to "swim home". This liveliness can be compared to
John Cheever and his writing style. In reference to Cheever, Samuel Coale, a critic, states that, "He does not attempt to penetrate the darker and
desperate depths of life but eagerly delights in the absurdities and arcane episodes of life" (Coale 103). Cheever will always make the reader aware
of his style of writing. It is so different from others that it is easily recognized through his characters' actions and problems. This rare writing style is
also evident in Cheever's "The Country Husband". Cheever uses descriptions so rare in his text that makes it evident it is his writing. In the short story,
"The Country Husband", Cheever uniquely describes the night, "Then it is dark; it is a night where kings in golden suits ride elephants over the
mountains" (Cheever 518). The main character, Francis Weed, is another suburbanite, and in reference to Coale's thoughts on Cheever's writing,
Cheever again does not show the bad side to life, but instead shows the positive aspect of it. As Francis Weed barely cheats death after a plane crash
that nearly takes his life, he begins to look on the brighter side of his life. "The

Don Delillo White Noise Analysis
Death is a vapor that seeps through the fissures of life, plunging its way into a person's existence. Throughout White Noise, Don Delillo uses death to
invoke a harrowing fear Jake Gladney and others alike strive to elude. From power to drugs, the terror drives characters to shroud their life with
distractions and shields. Jack's influence and power as the chairman of Hitler Studies gives him a sense that a person can be larger than death. Babette's
defense is drugs, attempting to eradicate the fear consuming her. However, these attempts to liberate themselves from fear was ineffective.
In a suburban town, Jack is the chairman in the department of Hitler studies and death is a perpetual thought of his (DeLillo). For example, Jack
wakes up at 3:51am in a "death sweat", thinking about death (DeLillo, 47). Furthermore, while looking through family albums, Jack wonders "who
will die first" (DeLillo, 30). The fear of death wakes Jack up at night, clouding happiness in a dark mist. As the chairman of Hitler studies, Jack
uses Hitler's image and reputation to create a veil over him in order to feel in control. Jack states that he feels "comfortable with" and "on top of"
death after explaining a part of Hitler's life to a crowd (DeLillo, 74). Moreover, Jack agrees with his friend Murray that "Hitler is larger than death"
(DeLillo, 274). This suggests that because Hitler brought forth great death and is still known in modern day, that Jack believes his knowledge of Hitler

Family Reflection Paper
The environment I was raised in was not the most typical. The Diversity and adversity in my family created a complex atmosphere to experience as a
child. I am the first biracial child in my family. With a white mother and black father, I was exposed to two very different cultures. The diversity of my
family taught me to be accepting and open–minded, along with helping me become adaptable to different types of people. As a child, I was subjected
to disapproval, of my parents relationship and my own self. This judgement caused members of my family to doubt my abilities and my success. IN
order to be taken seriously, I focused on improving in the things that I enjoyed. The pressure to prove my family wrong motivated me to work hard.
Through my success in academics and music, my ambition and with the support of my parents I was able to gain the respect of both sides of my
family. Even though I proved them wrong, as I grew older I learned of the different political standings among members of my family. With
conservative and liberal views clashing, I learned to be open–minded to all beliefs, and to accept and love any person, even if I disagreed with their
ideas.
I grew up in both a rural and suburban setting. My family owns thousands of acres of land, which I was able to experience throughout my
childhood. Being able to immerse myself in nature gave me a new respect for it. I was able to experience different ways of living which helped me

Journey Through Suburban Life in John Cheever's The Swimmer
"The Swimmer," by John Cheever, illustrates one man's journey from a typical suburban life to loneliness and isolation. This short story is
characteristic of John Cheever's typical characterizations of suburbia, with all it's finery and entrapments. Cheever has been noted for his "skill as a
realist depicter of suburban manners and morals" (Norton, p. 1861). Yet this story presents a deeper look into Neddy Merril's downfall from the
contentment of a summer's day to the realization of darker times.
The story begins with a scene of midsummer, with the laziness of those who can afford to lounge near the pool, those with money who are able to joke

1863). He remains friendly, not rude, and continues upon his way.
As he continues from pool to pool, each house is described by the various occupants, who most are drinking or having a party and welcome him,
keeping his mind on the idea of being an explorer/hero. The first inclination of a turning lies in the coming storm, "the stand of cumulus cloud – that
city – had risen and darkened, and while he sat there he heard the percussiveness of thunder again" (Norton, p. 1864). As he starts again to make his
way towards home, he begins to be a bit foggy, wondering what time it has gotten to be. It is almost as if his mind is clouding over, the imagery of
darkness descending, "it was growing dark; it was that moment when the pinheaded birds seem to organize their song into some acute and
knowledgeable recognition of the storm's approach" (Norton, p. 1865).
His growing "fogginess" becomes more apparent as he is unable to recall details of his life, "...and rain lashed the Japanese lanterns that Mrs. levy
had brought from Kyoto the year before last, or was it the year before that?" (Norton, p. 1865) "He seemed to remember having heard something about
the Lindleys and their horses but the memory was unclear" (Norton, p. 1865). He is baffled and

What Does The Ballad Of Flannery Street Mean
'The Ballad of Calvary Street' by James K. Baxter is a poem used effectively in order to develop the key idea of appearance vs.reality. This idea is
developed in the poem to reinforce idea of Baxter's underlying dislike for modern suburbanised society. He struggled throughout his life to understand
modernized society. Growing up as a Catholic, he eventually came to an epiphany and realised the New Zealand he knew was filled with hypocritical
middle class values that he did not respect. In this poem, we are given an insight into these ideas. This poem is relevant to New Zealanders, as James
K. Baxter appeared to evaluate New Zealand society harshly and his judgements were always from the perspective of one intimately involved in the
social process. James K. Baxter, who found intolerable 'depersonalisation, centralisation and decentralisation' of urban civilisation could still find
reason for hope 'in the hearts of people'. His criticisms of national life and his ultimate decision to step out of the mainstream are admired by many. He

These types of imagery helped readers to understand the misinterpretation of the Baxter family and how dull the suburban life really is. The first
religious symbol is in the title of the poem "Ballad of Calvary Street." This is ironic because "Calvary Street" is the street which Jesus walked to his
place of crucifixion, therefore having this street name as the title of the poem suggests that the street is not a nice place to live. Another religious
image James K. Baxter created throughout the poem was "hammer nails" which is symbolism for Jesus being hung of the cross and "white trellises"
is imagery created to represent the cross Jesus was hung on. Throughout the poem there is also a lot of repetition, which emphasises the idea of the dull
life that the family lives

The Tupperware Party: A Symbol Of 1950's Suburban Life
The Tupperware Party was a symbol of 1950's suburban living and a fascinating usage of manners and friendship as a method of selling merchandise.
Who was Earl Tupper and Brownie Wise?
The story of Tupperware begins with its creator, Earl Tupper, an American born Costa Rican inventor and business man.
In the 1940s, his experiments with polyethylene slag, having taken inspiration from the lids of paint cans, led him to his holy grail.

Using the waste product of the oil refining process given to him by his supervisor, Earl Tupper created a cone shaped bowl with a cleverly operated air

Tupperware, a product which was developed alongside with postwar suburban living, was wholeheartedly embraced domesticity and conspicuous
consumption. It's fashionable pastel designs and amiable hostesses embodies the burgeoning aspirations of white, American suburbia. Whilst
Tupperware products like the Party Susan and the 'TV Tumblr' filled what has been described as the 'perfect consumption space of suburbia', the
Tupperware party became a symbol of suburban life. P. 133
Tupperware appealed not only in the desire for material luxuries but also a sense of belong. Becoming a dealer meant having a large network of social
relations, money and standing in the community. Brownie Wise and Tupperware could be seen as a 1950s version of Steve Jobs and Apple, utilizing an
understanding of social networks, manners and the desire fit in with the crowd. Tupperware grew to become such a widely accepted and successful
phenomenon that one Methodist preacher spent a Sunday's sermon on the value of Tupperware as an American icon and 'a defensive bulwark against
communism'. Tupperware was more than a product, it was a community. Company advertisement, such as the Tupperware Anthem, drew upon an
sensationalist, almost cult–like, sense of unity and belonging a – a sense that they belonged to the Tupperware Family, with their head held high,

something devastating has happen to his father in the fifth line. For example, when the door bangs and it does not sound quite right to the child's

The Advantages And Differences Between City And Suburban Life
Part of the American Dream is home ownership. Buyers must decide whether to choose a home in a bustling city or nestled in a sprawling suburb.
People make this decision every day. Some relocate due to employment, weather, family, or ever simply for a change of scenery and lifestyle. The
reasons for relocating are as abundant as the options between city and suburban life. Both lifestyles have both advantages and disadvantages and
should be researched and chosen carefully. Suburban life is considered a utopia for many individuals. Well–manicured lawns surrounding every neutral
colored home is heaven. Rules force home owners to care for their property and abide by neighborhood regulations. No eyesores can exist. Parents
feel safe allowing children to play outdoors or go to the neighborhood park. Suburbanites can avoid negatives such as traffic, poor schools, high tax
rates, and violent crime. Neighbors once again speak to each other and have neighborhood events such as parades, picnics, and block parties.
Suburban communities are somewhat like a time in the past when it was acceptable to trust those who live nearby. It is once again safe to go next
door to borrow a cup of sugar. A well–known planned suburban community is Seaside, Florida. According to travel editor, Laszlo Buhasz, the
developer, Robert Davis, grouped southern style cottages with amenities and convenience. He wanted to revive the architectural styles of the Deep
South. He spent many months

Analysis Of Up The Wall By Bruce Dawe
Bruce Dawe, one of the most influential Australian poets of his time was known for using his poems as a way to efficiently discuss the matters in
society of his time and how this follows through generation, thus becoming a significant matter for his modern audience. Both Dawe's poems The
Not So Good Earth and Up The Wall have successfully demonstrated the issues of the complacency of our society towards the world around us and
their issues and the disconnection this thenceforth creates in everyday life and how this impacts the individual. Dawe's poem, Up The Wall, truly
validates the impact of the suburban, everyday lifestyle on the individual and how the loneliness this creates can push someone to the edge. Dawe's
use of onomatopoeia with the abrupt words of "shrieked" and "screams" really imposes that internal struggle the woman was experiencing. The use of
direct dialogue, spoken by the women when she speaks, "they nearly drove me up the wall!" although whom she was speaking to was... Show more

Through the use of a simile, "like a horizon" he argues that the individual's lifestyle has no sense of change and their day is always the same routine,
which evokes the acceptance and no thought for change. The dialogue of the final sestet from the two people conversing outside of the household is
deeply ironic due to the detection of disconnectedness from the outside world, indicating the lack of dialogue, as no one is aware of her misery.
Dawe uses repetition in this dialogue, "quiet... too quiet" which reiterates the detachment from society and the fragility of our humanity and what has
become of us as a whole. Through Up The Wall, Bruce Dawe effectively demonstrates the issues of the complacent society our world has become and
how ordinary life has affected individuals in a way that we have become completely detached from our

Analysis Of The Poem Enter Without So Much As Knocking...
Bruce Dawe cleverly uses Australian language and the poetic form in his poems "Enter Without So Much as Knocking", written in 1959 and "Homo
Suburbiensis", written in 1969, to reflect his views of suburban Australia in the 1950s and 1960s and its culture. Dawe's ideas and attitudes are formed
from his personal experiences of post–WW2 Australia which includes the modern living introduced in the suburbs and the commercialism and isolation
that it formed. His poem "Enter without so much as knocking" closely links Dawe's ideas of the new environment suburbia created with the
commercialism power structure that came with it. In his poem "Homo Suburbiensis" he effectively explores the isolation and escapism the newly
established suburbs post–WW2 Australia thrived on. These views Dawe shares in his poems show the Australian culture of the suburbs post–WW2
including the commercialism, isolation and escapism it brought.
In Bruce Dawe's poems "Homo Suburbiensis" and "Enter Without So Much as Knocking" contemporary suburban living in Australia is heavily
explored through the use of literary techniques.

Tim Burton's Film Edward Scissorhands: American Suburban Life
Tim Burton's film, Edward Scissorhands, based on American suburban life; portrays society at its worse. Throughout the film Edward is stretched into
what society wants him to be but he still doesn't live up to the expectations of the neighbours and hides in his manor for the rest of his life. Judgemental,
monotonous and conservative are all words that Burton has conveyed about American society.
Tim Burton has cleverly portrayed society with a judgemental atmosphere. The neighbours judge Edward because of his appearance. Tim Burton has
given Edward certain characteristics to make him different to everyone else. The isolation in Edward's manor has affected him emotionally and
psychologically. He isn't just visually different he also hasn't got well developed social skills and because of this he doesn't say a large amount of
dialogue throughout the film. Burton did this to emphasis the fact that because Edward doesn't have developed social skills he is out spoken. His

Essay On Dabbawalla

  • 1. Essay On Dabbawalla Mumbai Dabbawalla: – A Model of Service Excellence– A Strategic Analysis Introduction: If we look at the history of India over the last century, we get many examples of historic companies such as the Godrej Group, TATA Steel, ITC and many more that have bravely faced the emerging market situation of India, the recessions and have successively managed to sustain themselves till date. But rarely do we find examples of organizations started by a group of illiterate men from the rural hinterlands of Pune and Mumbai to establish a successful cooperative model that has sustained itself through decades, today popularly known as the Mumbai Dabbawallas. They predominantly work on end to end delivery of homemade food from their residence to their offices. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence due to flat organizational structure information symmetry exists at all levels. Acute visibility The beauty of the dabbawalla–based system is that all of the dabbawallas understand exactly what is happening and when – to the minute. If certain deadlines and hand–offs are missed, people don't eat. It's as simple as that. hence they make sure everyone within their chain understands their roles and responsibility, where they need to be at a particular time and what needs to be done if they run behind schedule. Organizational culture and shared values Typically, the age range of dabbawalla ranges from 18–65 and they remain in their groups for the entire working lives and hence through this a strong sense of bonding is developed among the dabbawallas. The new members recruited are typically friends or relatives of existing dabbawallas and they belong to same culture, language, possess same values etc. It is said that dabbawallas originally hail from ... • 2. Why Do People Come Home In The 1950s When I visualize the 50's I picture a man in a suit and tie coming home from a long day's work in his car. Then he opens the door to his home to see a perfectly clean house, his gorgeous wife, and his two children dressed neatly in their Sunday best, but it's just a regular Tuesday evening. Next, he will sit in his favorite chair while his better half gets him a drink and prepares a home cooked meal. The kids have now given daddy hugs and kisses and are playing outside until mom will ring the dinner bell. This vision does ring some truth concerning what life was like back in the 1950's, but there was much more happening outside the walls of this suburban home. This period of time in American history was a great time to be alive with the economy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is believed that this word was introduced to the English language because of the new way adolescents acted. They no longer tried to be like their adult parents. Rock and Roll was a new genre of music during this time period and loved by the youth, but dismissed by the elders of the time. It was considered childish and immoral music, but the teenagers were rebellious and continued to indulge themselves with the music even though their parents did not approve. Artists like Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry were popular rock and roll musicians and brought the genre to life making the youth fall even harder for the new sound. Now because this was the middle of the baby boomer generation, there were a considerable amount of teenagers and this caused a change in our culture. Many social aspects were tailored to the youths liking, such as movies, magazines, and clothes. There was now a prevalent market for kids from the age of thirteen to eighteen. Movies like "Gidget" and "Teenage Rebel" or the magazine "16" are examples that illustrate how industries were trying to make films and other products tailored to the teens' desires. This was rather new in that time period and still exists today. We have whole T.V. channels, stores, magazines, and movies that are geared toward the youth of America. Now one reason these products were so successful was the fact that there were more parents of this generation who were well off and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Descriptive Essay About My Neighborhood "Go to your houses and lock every door and window." I remember hearing the intercom speakers say throughout the neighborhood. My neighborhood is usually known as the Sun Rays Neighborhood Complex. It consists of twenty–two mansions. Most people who don't live here think that we are rude and snotty people. My best friend Brooke lives in the house next to mine. Well she used to be my best friend, but we haven't really talked since eighth grade. I miss being close friends with Brooke, although we still kind of keep in touch through social media. Luckily Brooke will be transferring to Sun Rays High School with me this junior year. The other day Brooke texted me, asking if I wanted to hang out with her. I told her sure, but I was a bit confused why she just randomly asked me to hang out. "Hey Lauren!" Brooke shouted from her yard. "Oh, hi Brooke how are you?". "Good." Said Brooke. "I was wondering if you wanted to come over earlier?" "Sure I'll be right over." I said walking back inside. So I went inside and quickly packed a bag. We played soccer in her yard, we made cookies, and also watched a movie. Then around six I went home. It was really fun getting to catch up with each others lives. After a few weeks Brooke and I hung out a lot more, and we started doing a lot of things together. Years of intensive wartime sacrifice were over and gone was the poverty borne out of the Great Depression. The American dream was being redefined and here stood a chance to own a house in your own land, a car and a dog. Families that had put on hold getting another child finally put away their worries and the country experienced a post war baby boom. Despite all the positives, it was also during this period that racial fears were ripe. This coupled with the desire to vacate the decaying cities is what prompted a huge number of white Americans to move to the suburbia area. Within a very short time, suburbs had become very popular and they created an illusion of a perfect traditional family. They became the latest glamorous countryside and every rich individual wanted to be part of this perfection. There was however difficulties that was experienced in the suburbs as a swelling population was experienced. The three novels White house, Revolutionary road and parts of Mrs. Browns The hours all show the plight of Suburban American both in comic and tragic lights. Merriam Webster's Online Dictionary defines reality as "something that is neither derivative nor dependent but exists necessarily." But what is real by today's standards? Does what appears to be normal equal reality? By looking at two different films it seems that the old cliche stands correct. Things aren't as they appear. American Beauty and TheVirgin Suicides give classic examples of how "normal" and "happy" suburban life is anything but. American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes (1999) and The Virgin Suicides, directed by SofiaCoppola (2000), share many of the same themes even though the plots are contrasted. Anyone who has seen the movie American Beauty can not miss Lester's obsession with Angela, his daughter's classmate and friend. He first sees her when he and Carolyn go to see their daughter perform at the school basketball game. Instantly he became mesmerized by her beauty and couldn't stop the feelings he had for her. Obviously they were strictly sexual feelings. Is this normal? Is it normal for a father to have any kind of feelings for their daughter's friend? It may be normal but it is not what is correct. And so in order to portray the perfect family Lester tried for a while to suppress the feelings he was having for Angela. Carolyn is also a victim of obsession. She is overly obsessed with appearances. She often makes comments to Jane about the way she looks. She feels that she cannot be happy unless she is presented in an ideal way. I'm honestly not sure if people still want that specific idealized image of a house in the suburbs as their actual permanent home. As a young person who is sometimes considered a Millennial depending on who you ask, I can only speak of my own experiences as well as of those around me. As a city kid, growing up in a small walkup in the middle of Queens, I was kind of in between the suburb/urban lifestyle where I was only a few minutes from the city life and on a very quiet Sunday afternoon, lived the suburban life. It sucked. I was in a neighborhood where the rents were constantly rising but the actual condition of the area was getting worse. There was constant construction, grifters, rats, bad neighbors, car accidents, and decaying infrastructure. Trees were cut down near my house and the roots were left to rot. Yet, everywhere I went, houses were being bought, renovated, and rented out. And people were moving in. I couldn't understand why. And then I went to college where dorming was an option. And my sister wanted to move out and was apartment hunting. We both so desperately wanted that chance of being independent from our parents, living it out in Manhattan. But we couldn't. • 21. School Culture Reflection Paper Perhaps positive school culture was another area I presumed as a given. When referencing the ELCC standard 2.0 I feel confident in my contributions and leadership skills developed throughout my tenure at York Suburban and refined through this internship experience. Again the big ah –ha in this arena was actually identifying what I was seeing be played out. The Pennsylvania Department of Education clearly defines the concept of missions, vision and values (See Appendix A for Concepts of Mission, Vision and Values) and York Suburban has a highly visible mission statement. We have this mission statement posted in all classrooms including kindergarten classes where students can not quite read them yet. I don't think many people in the general public can see the true value in school culture, but appreciate when it is positive. Our district boasts a clear mission and vision and shared values are communicated through a newly adopted tag–line: A Community of Encouragement, A Culture of Excellence. Because climate and culture are so closely related I like to make the analogy that climate is the talk of a building and culture is the walk. Often there is a positive climate, but the culture is lagging. When leadership has a strong vision for both climate and culture, then the building as a whole is talking the talk and walking the walk. I continue to view climate and culture through two lenses, and understand that the lines are often blurred between the two. In open schools where climate and culture are strong, new leadership is tasked with getting a pulse on the existing situation, but with some explicit details as to enable the continuation of both. New leadership in a building with a less than positive climate and culture is tasked with identifying the missing elements and diligently establishing a vision to begin to develop a positive and effective open school. Both new leaders will need time. Both situations require a process. Knowing the importance of all these pieces to the puzzle will enable me to either model what I've observed, or maintain depending on weather I am a principal in a district similar to mine or very different. A Lie Is What Kept Me Free A Lie Is What Kept Me Free Lies often overcomplicate situations by causing a person to have to continually tell more lies to cover up the original, when he or she could have just told the truth in the beginning. However, the problem is that the other option is not always so great either. Thetruth is perfectly honest, and that can cause one to get in trouble. I believe the main reason why we, as humans, lie is to protect ourselves and to protect the things for which we have much affection. Once, I had told a lie to keep myself from getting into more trouble than telling the truth would gotten me. This lie protected from losing what was the most important thing I had at the time, my freedom. This is the story of the time I lied to protect my freedom. To understand why I lied, it is primarily important to understand why I believe my freedom was at risk. In reference to Cheever, Samuel Coale, a critic, states that, "He does not attempt to penetrate the darker and desperate depths of life but eagerly delights in the absurdities and arcane episodes of life" (Coale 103). Cheever will always make the reader aware of his style of writing. It is so different from others that it is easily recognized through his characters' actions and problems. This rare writing style is also evident in Cheever's "The Country Husband". Cheever uses descriptions so rare in his text that makes it evident it is his writing. However, these attempts to liberate themselves from fear was ineffective. In a suburban town, Jack is the chairman in the department of Hitler studies and death is a perpetual thought of his (DeLillo). Journey Through Suburban Life in John Cheever's The Swimmer "The Swimmer," by John Cheever, illustrates one man's journey from a typical suburban life to loneliness and isolation. This short story is characteristic of John Cheever's typical characterizations of suburbia, with all it's finery and entrapments. In this poem, we are given an insight into these ideas. This poem is relevant to New Zealanders, as James K. Baxter appeared to evaluate New Zealand society harshly and his judgements were always from the perspective of one intimately involved in the social process. James K. Baxter, who found intolerable 'depersonalisation, centralisation and decentralisation' of urban civilisation could still find reason for hope 'in the hearts of people'. His criticisms of national life and his ultimate decision to step out of the mainstream are admired by many. He incorporates the extensive use of religious ... The first religious symbol is in the title of the poem "Ballad of Calvary Street." This is ironic because "Calvary Street" is the street which Jesus walked to his place of crucifixion, therefore having this street name as the title of the poem suggests that the street is not a nice place to live. Another religious image James K. Baxter created throughout the poem was "hammer nails" which is symbolism for Jesus being hung of the cross and "white trellises" is imagery created to represent the cross Jesus was hung on. Throughout the poem there is also a lot of repetition, which emphasises the idea of the dull life that the family lives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Tupperware Party: A Symbol Of 1950's Suburban Life The Tupperware Party was a symbol of 1950's suburban living and a fascinating usage of manners and friendship as a method of selling merchandise. (Change Slide) Using the waste product of the oil refining process given to him by his supervisor, Earl Tupper created a cone shaped bowl with a cleverly operated air tight seal which he called Tupperware. Unfortunately, Tupperware failed to sell at hardware and department stores. It was not until... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tupperware, a product which was developed alongside with postwar suburban living, was wholeheartedly embraced domesticity and conspicuous consumption. It's fashionable pastel designs and amiable hostesses embodies the burgeoning aspirations of white, American suburbia. Whilst Tupperware products like the Party Susan and the 'TV Tumblr' filled what has been described as the 'perfect consumption space of suburbia', the Tupperware party became a symbol of suburban life. P. 133 Tupperware appealed not only in the desire for material luxuries but also a sense of belong. Becoming a dealer meant having a large network of social relations, money and standing in the community. Brownie Wise and Tupperware could be seen as a 1950s version of Steve Jobs and Apple, utilizing an understanding of social networks, manners and the desire fit in with the crowd. Tupperware grew to become such a widely accepted and successful phenomenon that one Methodist preacher spent a Sunday's sermon on the value of Tupperware as an American icon and 'a defensive bulwark against communism'. Tupperware was more than a product, it was a community. Company advertisement, such as the Tupperware Anthem, drew upon an sensationalist, almost cult–like, sense of unity and belonging a – a sense that they belonged to the Tupperware Family, with their head held high, singing praise to the sky. The lonesome days were behind them, the golden ahead. All the women at Tupperware parties, all across the nation, were your friends and your family. • 32. The Alumna Interviewed : A Bachelor 's Graduate Of St The alumna interviewed was a bachelor's graduate of St. Kate's from the year 2015, named Larkin Scholla. To lay out her life before coming to St. Kate's, she was a bright student from a small suburban town in Minnesota. In choosing a college after high school, she didn't plan to attend St. Kate's. But when she was given a tour of the campus, she claimed that she loved it. She said that she was very excited in being a part of the great atmosphere that the campus had and that she had a feeling that it was a special place. When she finally decided to attend St. Kate's, her family constantly kept asking her if she was sure that she wanted to be at the St. Kate's campus, in which she replied with a definite "yes" with realization that they were just ensuring it being a right place for her to attend school. When asked if she had any expectations entering the grounds of St. Kate's, she said that she had none. She was just wondrous and curious about the kinds of things St. Kate's had to offer her. Her first week at St. Kate's, Scholla was very homesick. From what she noticed, her roommate didn't seem to like her, which was her expression of a first rough week at St. Kate's. Despite those not–so–good first impressions, things seemed to get better for her in the following weeks and moving forward. During her first year at St. Kate's, Ms. Scholla experienced a tragic moment, which also came to define the shape of her life. Her childhood friend that was the same age as her was killed in ... That reality shouldn't surprise too many people as the Escalade ESV and the Yukon XL share the same platform and dimensions. Choosing the Denali line when shopping GMC brings in a level of bling and comfort rivaling the Cadillac and does so for a lower cost. Still, when all is said and done the base price of your full–size Denali tops $70,000 and ultimately finishes somewhere below $80,000 when every last one of your favorite extras are added. Yet, that's a price point of $5,000 to $15,000 below the deliciously ostentatious Escalade. The Yukon XL's arrival at my home occurred just prior to the release of a report explaining... His keen observation gave his poetry an edged and showed what American life and society was like daily (Fox). His attentiveness gave insight to another's way of life, as if he was putting himself in "another person's shoes". His observations continued into his work for he chose word with specific care to create a personal experience with the reader. William Smith demonstrates tone and theme within his poem American Primitive. For example, when the door bangs and it does not sound quite right to the child's ear. Again when the father's hands are cold and his lips are blue the child still is concerned and confused. Yet, the loss of innocence makes its full appearance in the ninth line such as "the ladies faint and the children holler." As the child is shocked and then immediately dives into grief as in lines eleven and twelve are repeated from the first stanza. The last two lines are important for it shows the pressure that Americans had on each other to achieve the "American Dream". The father may have felt he could never achieve the myth of a white picket fence with a house in the suburban neighborhood in the 1950's. The father may have thought the only way to escape the immense pressure is to commit suicide, to leave his child behind to face society and the daily life of being an ... • 35. The Advantages And Differences Between City And Suburban Life Part of the American Dream is home ownership. Buyers must decide whether to choose a home in a bustling city or nestled in a sprawling suburb. People make this decision every day. Some relocate due to employment, weather, family, or ever simply for a change of scenery and lifestyle. The reasons for relocating are as abundant as the options between city and suburban life. Both lifestyles have both advantages and disadvantages and should be researched and chosen carefully. Suburban life is considered a utopia for many individuals. Well–manicured lawns surrounding every neutral colored home is heaven. Rules force home owners to care for their property and abide by neighborhood regulations. No eyesores can exist. Parents feel safe allowing children to play outdoors or go to the neighborhood park. Suburbanites can avoid negatives such as traffic, poor schools, high tax rates, and violent crime. Neighbors once again speak to each other and have neighborhood events such as parades, picnics, and block parties. Suburban communities are somewhat like a time in the past when it was acceptable to trust those who live nearby. It is once again safe to go next door to borrow a cup of sugar. A well–known planned suburban community is Seaside, Florida. According to travel editor, Laszlo Buhasz, the developer, Robert Davis, grouped southern style cottages with amenities and convenience. He wanted to revive the architectural styles of the Deep South. He spent many months ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Analysis Of Up The Wall By Bruce Dawe Bruce Dawe, one of the most influential Australian poets of his time was known for using his poems as a way to efficiently discuss the matters in society of his time and how this follows through generation, thus becoming a significant matter for his modern audience. Both Dawe's poems The Not So Good Earth and Up The Wall have successfully demonstrated the issues of the complacency of our society towards the world around us and their issues and the disconnection this thenceforth creates in everyday life and how this impacts the individual. Dawe's poem, Up The Wall, truly validates the impact of the suburban, everyday lifestyle on the individual and how the loneliness this creates can push someone to the edge. Dawe's use of onomatopoeia with the abrupt words of "shrieked" and "screams" really imposes that internal struggle the woman was experiencing. The use of direct dialogue, spoken by the women when she speaks, "they nearly drove me up the wall!" although whom she was speaking to was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the use of a simile, "like a horizon" he argues that the individual's lifestyle has no sense of change and their day is always the same routine, which evokes the acceptance and no thought for change. The dialogue of the final sestet from the two people conversing outside of the household is deeply ironic due to the detection of disconnectedness from the outside world, indicating the lack of dialogue, as no one is aware of her misery. Dawe uses repetition in this dialogue, "quiet... too quiet" which reiterates the detachment from society and the fragility of our humanity and what has become of us as a whole. Through Up The Wall, Bruce Dawe effectively demonstrates the issues of the complacent society our world has become and how ordinary life has affected individuals in a way that we have become completely detached from our ... • 37. Analysis Of The Poem Enter Without So Much As Knocking... Bruce Dawe cleverly uses Australian language and the poetic form in his poems "Enter Without So Much as Knocking", written in 1959 and "Homo Suburbiensis", written in 1969, to reflect his views of suburban Australia in the 1950s and 1960s and its culture. Dawe's ideas and attitudes are formed from his personal experiences of post–WW2 Australia which includes the modern living introduced in the suburbs and the commercialism and isolation that it formed. His poem "Enter without so much as knocking" closely links Dawe's ideas of the new environment suburbia created with the commercialism power structure that came with it. In his poem "Homo Suburbiensis" he effectively explores the isolation and escapism the newly established suburbs post–WW2 Australia thrived on. These views Dawe shares in his poems show the Australian culture of the suburbs post–WW2 including the commercialism, isolation and escapism it brought. In Bruce Dawe's poems "Homo Suburbiensis" and "Enter Without So Much as Knocking" contemporary suburban living in Australia is heavily explored through the use of literary techniques. In Dawe's "Homo Suburbiensis" the modern suburban lifestyle is portrayed through the use of onomatopoeia. "hearing vaguely the clatter of a disk in a sink that could be his, hearing a ... Throughout the film Edward is stretched into what society wants him to be but he still doesn't live up to the expectations of the neighbours and hides in his manor for the rest of his life. Judgemental, monotonous and conservative are all words that Burton has conveyed about American society. Tim Burton has cleverly portrayed society with a judgemental atmosphere. The neighbours judge Edward because of his appearance. Tim Burton has given Edward certain characteristics to make him different to everyone else. The isolation in Edward's manor has affected him emotionally and psychologically. He isn't just visually different he also hasn't got well developed social skills and because of this he doesn't say a large amount of dialogue throughout the film. Burton did this to emphasis the fact that because Edward doesn't have developed social skills he is out spoken. His scissor hands support this idea of judgment through society as they are strange and make people feel nervous around Edward. Therefore if they feel nervous around him it isn't likely ... Edward fails to make the neighbours happy and is banished to his manor. He then complemented the idea of monotony with all the men leaving at the same time for work. When Edward comes to the neighbourhood all of the neighbours come together as one and try to find out whom Edward is and how they can exploit him.
