The Iran-Iraq War Essay
The Iran Iraq War
While the Iran Iraq War during the 1980 s may have permanently altered the course of progress in
Iran and Iraq, the war also altered the resulting permanent involvement of the rest of the world in
the middle east. The rich and complicated history in Iraq has established numerous cultural and
ethnic traditions that all play a part in where the country is today. The Iran Iraq War brought into
focus some of those traditions and how they conflicted, while also bringing Iraq and its economic
situation into the spotlight. Being on top of some of the most mineral rich soil in the world makes
Iraq a major contributor to the world s economy through petroleum and crude oil exports. This,
among other reasons, ties nations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Safavids were the first the first to declare Shia Islam the official religion of Iran, and their
interest in Iraq lay in the Shia holy places in central Iraq, and also the fact that Baghdad held
significant symbolic value as the seat of the ancient Abbasid Empire. The Ottoman Empire on the
other hand was afraid that Shia Islam would spread to Asia Minor, and thus looked to control Iraq
as a Sunni dominated buffer state. During the Ottoman period, the Sunnis were placed in political
positions, while the Shias were then shut out of the political process. This divide between the
Sunnis and the Shias continued to be more and more of an important element in the Iraqi social
structure, and remains an issue even today. It was also during this time period that the Kurdish
Baban Dynasty emerged and began to organize resistance to the Ottoman rule in Northern Iraq.
Then came the First World War and with it the defeat of the German army and their allies,
including Turkey. As a result in 1919, Iraq, as well as Palestine, came under the control of Great
Britain who proceeded to draw out the borders and establish a government that would best suit
them. The years which followed were filled with revolutions, jihad, and unrest, as the British sought
to maintain control of a nation with which they knew very little about.

Taking a Look at Veganism
For this assignment, I volunteered at the Earthstock celebration on April 25th. Earthstock is a week
long, campus wide event that is used to educate students, alumni, and the general public about
sustainable practices that help the environment. During the final Earthstock celebration, exhibitors
from many different organizations, such as EmPower Solar and Vegan Outreach, set up tables
displaying information regarding healthy lifestyle practices, alternative diets, and sustainable forms
of energy. For this event, I was unfortunately assigned the task of helping other student volunteers
and exhibitors check in and set up their tables. However, after volunteering, I was able to observe
and learn about many of the organizations that had attended the event.
One of the most notable parts of Earthstock for me was the reciting of the Green Pledge. Just by
reciting the pledge, I realized that there were many other ways to promote environmental
sustainability other than just recycling. For example, by registering to vote you are helping the
environment because it gives you a say in environmental policy decisions. I learned about groups
such as Pride Patrol, and I learned about the impacts that certain events, such as Recyclemania, have
on our campus and the environment as a whole. Another notable moment for me was learning about
the benefits of a vegan diet from the Vegan Outreach organization. I learned more about the horrors
that occur in slaughterhouses and poultry farms, and I

Exploring The African American Woman s Identity Through...
Exploring the African American Woman s Identity through the Arts
In the Africa American culture, there has been a longstanding discussion of the black woman s
physical appearance and how they identify themselves in society. Though there are many themes of
the Black experience in the media that discuss the standard of beauty Black women should have.
However, theatre has a creative and tactful way of exploring these topics that are considered taboo
in the African Americanculture. During the Black Arts Movement, topics such as black
empowerment and self identity were the blue print for what the movement stood for. In reference
to, A Brief Guide to the Black Arts Movement Writers, African American artists within the
movement sought to create politically engaged work that explored the African American cultural
and historical experience (A Brief Guide to the Black Arts Movement Writers.1). Prolific writers
such as, Ntozake Shange s, Amari Baraka, and Nikki Giovanni, just to name a few, were
revolutionary in a creative and political movement, which allowed for writers and poets to
demonstrate the pains and qualms of what African Americans faced in Western society. Two
African American playwrights, Lorraine Hansberry and Adrienne Kennedy, expounded on these
topics in their plays A Raisin in the Sun and Funny House Negro. In the further exploration of
stigmas of African American female hair and self identification through theatre, these plays will be
used as a platform to

Journey Short Story
We exited the cave, and it gave way to the castle s large and wall less garden, where many
gathered. Some sat on blankets for winter picnics, while others danced to a folk tune I didn t
recognize, but it was the young woman in a black dress that made me smile. With all caution and
care, she played with a group of five to eight children. They didn t cry, but offered simple smiles,
laughter and giggles, as her game of Ring Around the Rosie, switched to Duck, Duck Goose.
It brought a tear to my eye to know that those who had departed had indeed found some respite,
some semblance of peace that transcended time and space, and those children were cared for, loved
even.
Scanning the area, I shielded my eyes from the blinding white snow and ... Show more content on

You told him to watch over me?
Of course. Loki is selfish. He wouldn t do anything so kind for anyone if not ordered.
Loki remained standing next to me, still. I clenched my fists and jaw.
You don t look so well, Thorsaid. Something wrong?
I braced myself from the blizzard forming in my mind. Loki had blinded me with his charm, and I
d let him.
Yes, Midgard is being overrun, Loki interjected. We must return to assist in its defense.
Thor turned his attention back to me, and seeing his glee, I hated every moment of it. You came
for me like I knew you would. He gushed.
To me, I could still smell Loki on my skin. That of sugar, honey and desire. It now began to mix
with regret and betrayal.
You knew I would? My voice squeaked.
You have always been such a force to reckon with, one of honor and courage. I knew you d make
sure that I, no we, could defend Midgard, and with you being here now, the gate shall open and I
can finally leave. Thor headed back in the direction from which Loki and I came.
Loki reached out to take my hand. I snatched it out of his grasp.
You did this. I knew something was off, but instead of listening to my instinct, that little voice
inside, I gave you the benefit of the doubt.
I stomped through the snow behind Thor s long strides.
Sif, listen Loki rubbed my arms up and down and attempted to calm me.
I waited for him to say something, anything, to prove I was wrong.

Hmong Culture Food, Eating and Cooking
Diverse Cultures in America Soc 240

The Hmong people are originally from rural mountainous areas in Laos and they still inhabit that
country to this day. Laos is a country that is located in Southeast Asia. Hmong people are divided
into clans or tribes that share the same paternal ancestry. The Hmong people inhabited all parts of
Laos but all carried pretty much the same cultures and livelihood with them as many immigrated to
the United States in the past few decades (Ohio State University, 2005).
One of the important parts of Hmong culture is their food. The Hmong staple food is white rice.

Hmong try to grow as much food as possible to supplement their families without having to buy
from grocery stores. If there is excess food grown, they are shared with fellow clan members.
Hmong culture relies on many different methods for cooking meals and they are stir frying,
boiling, steaming and roasting over an open fire. Vegetable oils and pork fats are the primary
fats used in cooking if an oil is needed. Seasoning are also an essential part of cooking, they use
soy sauce, hot peppers, ginger, garlic, coconut and lemon grass which are all quite commonly
used. The Hmong culture does not usually use salt and pepper, since it was not readily available in
Laos. But it is been found in more and more of American Hmong kitchens.
There were many products that Hmong use today in America that were not readily available to
them in Laos. Dairy products are one product which was unavailable most of the time in Laos,
though at times goat milk was used to supplement diets. Many Hmong continue to not use dairy
products because of the moderate percentage of Hmong that are lactose intolerant. The overall fat
content in the Hmong diet is very low. The Hmong people eat relatively few sweets and do not
participate in cooking these sweet items very often or at all (Kitler P. Schuer K. 1989).
Sooner or later the inevitable will arise, since we are all are human and curiosity and taste buds
are what doomed Adam and Eve, it is what will someday doom the Hmong

Marriage By David Popenoe And Barbara Dafoe Whitehead...
Marriage: a fairy tale where every moment leads to happiness and everlasting love. In the article
What s Happening to Marriage? the authors David Popenoe and Barbara Dafoe Whitehead reverse
the fairy tale of marriage. The article conveys a different aspect of marriage that marriage is
weakening and divorceis on the rise. The authors believe men and women of this time have more
struggles when marrying one another than when their parents or grandparents got married. The
authors arguments are well supported, but their use of fallacies outweighs their theories. David
Popenoe and Barbara Dafoe Whitehead claim that in today s society marriageis becoming more of a
trust issue than previously thought. They believe marriages have none of these elements: ...an
economic bond of mutual dependency; a social bond supported by the extended familyand larger
community; and a spiritual bond upheld by religious doctrine, observance and faith (520).
Marriage is becoming more of a couples relationship and losing meaning in society s culture;
therefore, the rate of divorce is increasing causing people to be cautious of marriage. Popenoe and
Whitehead use numerous statistics about divorce rate; however, they only examine the women s
point of view. According to the authors, this is not the first time marriage has gone to the dumps
and recovered causing the authors to delay on writing marriage s obituary. The authors of the
article value a considerable amount of appeals that are

Examples Of Loyalty In The Odyssey
Loyalty is the act of being faithful to one s leader or party and keeping their commitments. In the
Odyssey, loyalty is shown by Odysseus and his men as they make their long, treacherous journey
home to Ithaca after the long battle of Troy. This story explains how showing loyalty to others is
key in any relationship. In the Odyssey, Odysseusis loyal to his men while his men are loyal to
him, making a good relationship. In the beginning, it summarizes the journey made by Odysseus
and his men. It says, while he [Odysseus] fought only to save his life, to bring his shipmates home
(Homer 895). This quote shows that Odysseus is fighting to save his shipmates lives and bring
them back home to their families. By doing this, Odysseus is

Unobtrusive Attitudes
Beyond Fazio et al. s (1995) intention to introduce an unobtrusive method of measuring attitudes (in
their case, prejudice against African Americans), they demonstrated the problems of reactivity and
conceptual confounding present in the frequently used Modern Racism Scale (MRS). Such
unreliability of explicit attitude measures puts the use of self reports in social psychological
research into question. Essentially, their study aimed not so much as to demonstrate how prejudice
is expressed and manifested but to provide evidence for their own method of measuring attitudes as
they are automatically activated. Central to their method is the hypothesis of facilitation:
Participants will assign positive or negative valences to presented adjectives at a shorter and
response latency (i.e. facilitated) if the adjective s valence is congruent to the evaluation
automatically activated by the prime. People are then not asked explicitly asked about their
attitudes (which is instead inferred from the pattern of facilitation), thus eliminating their tendency
to choose which responses would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was tasked to rate the quality of the interaction with the participants. Indeed, the unobtrusive
attitude measures correlated significantly with the experimenter s interaction ratings (based on the
friendliness and interest of the participant). However, such measure remains a form of self report
liable to subjective biases and rating errors. The researchers also offered no explanation as to
whether the experimenter had been trained on what criteria of rating was to be used. This issue
may be crucial as such ratings have been used extensively to distinguish between the unobtrusive
measure and the MRS, and to attest to the former s ability to predict actual prejudice behavior (i.e.

12 Angry Men By Reginald Rose
An issue that has been circulating is whether or not to conform. Rob Siltanen says, ... The ones who
see things differently. They re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You
can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can t do is
ignore them. Because they change thing.[...] ( cited) What he says is agreeable because the one that
does not conform, will be the one that changes themselves, their society and even their future. This
matter is an open topic of debate because one may agree that an individualdoes not need to conform
to society s ideals in order to find their happinessor be successful in life.
When an individual chooses to not conform, it will lead them to their future and their own
accomplishment. In the play,12 Angry Men, by Reginald Rose, readers can understand that one
do not have to conform to what is the majority but an individual could be successful with their
own action and thoughts. Juror 8 uses pathos to defend the boy by arguing, Look, this boy s
been kicked around all his life. You know living in a slum, his mother dead since he was nine.
He spent a year and a half in an orphanage while his father served a jail term for forgery. That s
not a very good head start. He had a pretty terrible sixteen years. I think maybe we owe him a few
words. That s all (Rose 5). Juror eight states that he cannot condemn a fellow human being to the

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s One Day
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich explores the man s struggle to
survive in the trying circumstances of a Soviet Gulag. Though the novel leads the reader through
the horrific conditions in one of the work camps, it does not focus on the lack of hope that the
men feel but it focuses on the perseverance and resilience of the prisoners. Shukhov s character
shines through as a prominent example of the courage of the souls in the work camps. Further,
Alyoshka proves to never give up in the face of extreme conditions and is always around to help
his gang. Finally, Tyurin s undying devotion to leadership provides a refreshing look into the
resilience of the prisoners. Solzhenitsyn expertly constructs intricate layers... Show more content on

Furthermore, the author reveals through Shukhov s actions the determination that mankind
experienced in the gulags. Shukhov takes a job, which could normally be considered a gruelling
task, and turns it into an act of fortitude. As the sole thing he sees is the wall in front of him (97)
and he shouts to not give up yet, boys! (109), he strongly exemplifies the perseverance of the
prisoners. The task that he is given should dishearten him but instead, boosts his morale and thus,
his determination. The character of Shukhov is crafted as a glaring example of the resilience men
have in a gulag, and this is additionally explored through the characterization of Alyoshka.
Solzhenitsyn creates the compelling character of Alyoshka who stays true to himself and to
others in the face of adversity. Staying faithful to his religion gives him the strength he requires
in order to focus on the positive outcomes of the gulags. Contrary to popular opinion, the author
uses Alyoshka s dialogue to exhibit the positivity as he says to [b]e glad [they are] in prison so
that they have time to think about [their] soul[s] (177). He regards his imprisonment as a time to
reflect upon his spirit and the kind of person he is which is a true accomplishment of the human
spirit in the calamity of a gulag. Further, the author uses his actions to display his steadfast nature
that causes him to be of tremendous help to his gang. His want to be helpful is glaringly

Body Care Products and their Impacts Essay
Body care products. We use them every day. On our hair, on our body, on our face. And,
sometimes but not often, we think about the environmental, ethical and social impacts it has.
Nowadays, it s a standardised idea that it is extremely important to take in these factors when
choosing and purchasing products; however, is it really as important as it is portrayed to be? To
come to a conclusion as to whether or not it is important to think about the environmental, social
and ethical impacts when buying a product, both sides shall be discussed.
The environment is probably one of the most debatable subjects around right now. And yet another
debatable aspect about the impact on the environment is related to the body products. One must be

The chemicals used and the consequences related to them are similar to those stated above.
Another factor where body products endanger the environment is when it comes to packaging.
Statistics show that in fact body products make up a third of all landfill waste. The packaging
being non bio degradable is left lying in landfills, waiting for hundreds of years to break down.
With enough threats to the environment, is there really need to worsen its condition even more? As
can be seen above, the environmental impact of body products is quite profound. Body products
that go into the ocean can also cause dangerous consequences to the eco system, especially to the
organism living there. Even the packaging of body products affects the environment. Therefore, the
environmental impacts should be taken seriously when choosing a body care product.
Yet, some are still doubtful. They think that perhaps they are part of a scheme to scare people
with over exaggerated statistics and dangers. Some believe we are being too paranoid and easily
swayed by what we hear. So are we creating needles worries and stirring a storm out of nothing?
Before, we jump to conclusions too quickly by drawing conclusions from things we hear; we
should see the concrete evidence first. Although there has been lots of research, nothing has been
100% confirmed nor are they extremely certain the effects are caused by the body care

act normal and yet conceal great power to help others, like for instance Clark Kent and Superman.
Thus seeing the protagonist s obsession with superheroes and his fantasies of exacting justice upon
the bully implies that he too wishes he were like that, that he could use that power stand up and not
be afraid. His superhero persona also has a star shaped mouth hole evocative of Captain America,
who has stars proudly portrayed all over his outfit that symbolizes truth, justice, and freedom.
Of course, depending on their background, someone in the target age group may develop an
opposing position to some of the scenes depicted. For instance, some may think that the
depiction of bullying is wholly inaccurate and misleading, as actual physical violence is rare and
usually only occurs in private areas. Rather, bullying is usually emotional or verbal, like
spreading rumours or name calling, as that s more subtle and likely to pass under teachers or
other students radars. As well, the look the bully gives the protagonist at the end as he leads his

Throughout the course of the civil rights movement, African Americans were making strides to

Wonder Woman is such an inspiring film. This movie shows the how the stereotypical gender

really strong. Diana was very eager to learn how to fight. Which that is how women should be

Some countries are more gay friendly than others, while yet some are just beginning the transition
to acceptance of LGBT people. As the debate over legal recognition of gay and lesbian couples
heightens, individual states in the U.S. are considering different types of protection for gay and
lesbian couples under the law. They are civil unions, domestic partnerships and same sex marriage.
In most cases, civil unions and domestic partnership laws only offer a fraction of the 1,049 benefits
the United States government provides for couples in a heterosexual marriage. Currently in the
U.S., only Connecticut and Vermont allow same sex civil unions. So in order for same sex couples
to adopt or becoming a parent to another child they must know the facts and the rights that come

The Pursuit Of Grammatical Perfection Is Necessary For
The pursuit of grammatical perfection is necessary for all English majors. Frivolous mistakes, such
as incorrect verb tenses or sentence fragments, can easily make an English major appear
unprofessional and unskilled. It is therefore vital to learn and relearn the rules of the English
language to save oneself from embarrassment in a professional environment. A simple grammatical
mistake, for example, may turn into habit. I identify with this group that requires a refreshment of
the rules of grammar on occasion. Ultimately, throughout the duration of this eight week course, I

Week one contained the first topic I found difficulty with: linguists versus grammarians. Although I
quickly grasped the definition and purpose of grammarians, identifying the same for linguists was
difficult. Initially, I was slightly concerned about whether I would actually perform well in this
course, like I had with previous English courses. Even after posting in the discussion topics and
completing the assigned quizzes for the week, I still felt uncomfortable with the subject. Rather than
simply reading and rereading the topic notes, I took a different route and did further research.
Now, between the reading provided in the course content as well as additional articles, I can
explain the difference between a linguist and a grammarian with confidence. A few weeks later, I
found myself confused, again, as I took notes during week five. Independent, dependent,
restrictive, and nonrestrictive clauses were a breeze for me, but the range of other clauses
stumped me. Although I briefly learned about noun clauses in high school, I had completely
forgotten the instruction I once received. This, however, was quickly remedied by the previously
mentioned method further research. Unfortunately, the second quiz for week five proved to me
that I had not quite grasped the differences between transitive and intransitive verbs, as proven by
a score of fifty five percent on quiz 5.2. This difficulty would come back to haunt me later on in

Political Beginnings Essay
The early political beginnings of United States of America were quite rocky. During this time,
politics became an ever growing issue. People were concerned about their wellbeing and whether
or not the government was treating them fairly. This growing concern caused for groups of like
minded people to band together for a common cause and create political factions. These factions
grew to be our present day political parties. It was due to the ratification of the National Bank, The
Whisky Rebellion, The Alien and Sedition Acts, and Jay s Treaty that took place between the eras
of Washington, Adams, and Jefferson, that allowed for the Federalist and Democratic Republican
parties to emerge and assert their differences in early America.... Show more content on

The ratification of the National Bank widened the gap between Federalists and Republicans. Even
though Washington strictly stated that the United States must be a faction less nation, Parties
developed nonetheless. (Dawson, XIV)
The 1794 Whisky Rebellion proved to be a turning point in American politics. In 1794, due to
civilian anger towards a skyrocketing twenty five percent tax on whiskey, one hundred
Pennsylvanian farmers banded together to protest the tax. The protesters attacked a U.S. marshal
that summoned sixty people that failed to pay the tax to appear in court at Philadelphia. In response
to this protest, Washington proclaimed that citizens who resorted to violent forms of protest would
face harsh federal authority. Washington s attack against civilian misconduct showed that the
federal government had the strength to enforce its law. This reaction attracted supporters to the
federalist cause. This assertion strengthened the view of an aristocratic, elite, government and that
the common people were unfit to be a part of the government and that a select few should be in
command. Washington s quickness to impose strong federal power exemplifies the federalist ideals.
The 1800 s election of Jefferson marked the era of the Democratic Republican. Upon Election,
Jefferson demanded dramatic cutbacks to government expenditures, loosening the Judicial branch, a

All animals interact with their environment and their ability to grow is limited by the resources
available to them. The maximum number of individuals of a species that a certain environment can
support is called that species carrying capacity. Biologists can determine the population of a species
based on the carrying capacityby using models. That can indicate whether certain species are
endangered or abundant in the wild. There are numbers of factors that can determine a species
carrying capacity and models can be used to show the populationgrowth of that species.
Competition is a limiting factor that can determine a species carrying capacity. When population
increase, individuals start competing for food, shelter, and the most suitable mates. While the
stronger individuals tend to survive, the weaker individuals begin to die off because of insufficient
resources for everyone in the community. Competition can lower birthrates and increase death
rates. When two different species live in the same area, they compete for resources in that
environment and typically one species is eliminated by the other. The population will reach its
carrying capacity when competition reduces the size of the population to what the environment can
support. Predationand herbivory are another limiting factor that can determine a species carrying
capacity. Predation is when a population feeds on another population for sustenance. In predator
prey relationships, the predator can decrease

Summary Of Mildred Levy Four Sons
Rabbi Brent Gutmann Kol Nidrei 5775 Mildred Levy has four sons, all of whom are
extraordinarily wealthy. The only problem for their dear mum Mildred is that all four of her
sons are living in London and she is living in Melbourne. Still, the brothers are close and they get
together occasionally. Not a single one of them able to make it back for her birthday this year,
they decide to meet for lunch in her honour, and they begin to discuss what they ve bought their
mother for her birthday. Sam proudly tells his brothers, you know how mum loves to get
together with her friends and watch soaps? I just bought her a brand new top of the line flat
screen. Then Michael jumps in, Well, you know how mum loves the water. We ll I ve bought
her a new luxury yacht and I ve paid for a slip right near her home and her own captain so that
whenever she wants to go on the water, she can just drive on down to the club and go. The third
son, David says sarcastically, A Yacht?! What mum really needed was a new home. I ve bought
her a home. Right in Windsor. Six million Australian dollars. Beautiful. Eight bedrooms, two car

birthday, Jacob? Meekly, Jacob responded, I ve bought mum a parrot. A parrot?!? They are

The Bible Is Not A Children s Book Essay
The Bible is not a children s book. Not only is it beyond the length and reading level appropriate
for younger audiences, it often covers what some parents might consider inappropriate topics.
Imagine finding an illustrated children s bible containing graphic stories about talking to ghosts or
children being burned alive as sacrifices to God. These are troubling stories that actually appear
within the Hebrew Bible, which even some adults may feel uncomfortable discussing. Academic
scholarship of the Bible, however, should not be influenced by such discomfort. This has led a
handful of scholars to study these death related experiences within ancient Israelite contexts. The
last thirty years have revealed at least two contemporary topics of conversations between scholars
within this subfield: necromancy and child sacrifice among ancient Israelite religion. Typically,
dialogue about ancient Israelites is framed among the broader beliefs and practices of peoples from
the surrounding geographical region including the Canaanites, Egyptians, and other ancient
peoples; these topics are no exception. While, there is also no consensus among modern scholars,
the majority of academics appear to accept both child sacrifice and necromancy as a historical
practice belonging to the worship of Yahweh. Nonetheless, these scholars continue to do so with
varying degrees of beliefs about the particular conditions during which these controversial customs
were performed.

The Women In Beowulf
In the book Beowulf, the women played significant roles at this period of time. It was actually a
time when women were well respected. Some women were even referred to as a noble lady, like
Wealtheow. So, why were the roles of the women in the story of Beowulf important? What did
they do and how did they do it? Finally, did they offer an alternate prospective to the poetic story?
Yes, all the women in the story of Beowulf, like Wealtheow, Hygd, Hildeburh, and Grendal s
mother had roles that offered an alternate prospective of the story.
The most important role that the women had was their partnerships with their husbands. In the
marriage women were the much more productive ones in the relationship. During this time period
the Beowulf women were considered equal to men and were able to make huge decisions. For
instance, women were able to choose whether they wanted war or peace. Some women like
Hildeburh were sent as gifts to other kingdoms which symbolized there peace. So, one of the great
character traits the women had in the story was being a peacemaker. ... Show more content on

under their eyes. Tear staining is a common problem of dogs especially to some breeds. Stains
under a dog s eyes are caused by excessive tearing brought by a number of eye problems such as
dog eye infections, eye lids and eyelash problems, shallow eye socket problems, blockage in the
tear drainage holes and food allergies. The long hair in the face and the hair growing in the skin
folds around the eyes can also irritate the eyes resulting to excessive tearing. Whatever the cause

Southern Colonies Characteristics
Southern Colonies Attributes Report
This paper is about the different characteristics of the Southern colonies for use in the plausible
war. Based upon the areas of geography and climate, resources, and political and social life, the
southern colonies will prove to be an asset to England in a possible war with France.
The geography of the southern colonies consists of deep wide rivers, the Atlantic coastal plain,
and good harbors. These will all be positive attributes due to the rivers and harbors can be used for
transportation and the Atlantic coastal plain is easy to travel on. The climate however, can be
challenging at some points. The summers are very hot and humid which could be difficult to
function in. But the winters are very mild and would be much better. Overall the geography and
climate seem fall in the middle. The geography is an asset but the climate may be an obstacle.
Natural resources of the Southern region, to state a few, are cotton, tobacco, and harbors. These
are good because since cotton and tobacco are both cash crops we can ... Show more content on

Setting Boundaries And Ethical Considerations With Clients...
Setting Boundaries and Ethical Considerations with Clients in Treatment Groups
As a social worker and facilitator of a treatment group, you off handedly remarked that you were
going to give away a bunch of clothes that you have had stored and haven t worn. A treatment
group member hears this and asks that you give the clothes to him or her. Do you give them to her
or him? Why or why not? Which NASW Code of Ethics does this situation relate to? If the client is
in need of the clothes then I do not think it would be violating any codes because they need them
because they do not have clothes or need something to wear to say a job interview, however,
because this could be taken out of context such as having a dual relationship with a client. I
would ask the agency that I work for if it is alright to give the clothes to a client that needs them
and if not then I would donate them. Giving a client clothes may be seen as having both a
professional relationship and social relationship with the client, however, it is not because the
clothes were offered because the client had an immediate need. Boundary issues need to be looked
at closely because all of them are not always unethical such as running into clients at the grocery
store or sporting events as one example.
Code 1.06 Conflicts of Interest
C. Social workers should not engage in dual or multiple relationships with clients or former clients

The Effects Of High Incarceration On The United States
A.Societal Effects From Increasing Alienated Population The vast societal effects from mass
incarceration have caused an increasingly alienated population to form in the U.S., which can be
broadly classified in the dual areas of lasting effects and impacts to the family unit. First, the lasting
effects of high incarcerationrates are that they impact the rights of the convict, particularly African
Americans. For example, noted civil rights attorney Michelle Alexander posits that the long term
effects of mass incarceration operate to deny black Americans the future right to volte, the ability to
obtain public benefits, the possibility to sit on juries, and ultimately the opportunity to secure
gainful employment (Steiker, 2011), Moreover, professor Alexander argues that this mass
incarceration together with the prior Jim Crow lawsand the past practice of slaery in the U.S.
operate to ensure that black Americans remain s subordinate class of citizens defined primarily by
their race (Steiker, 2011). Second, mass incarceration impacts society by aleinating the convict and
his or her family in numerous ways. For example, Professor Gottschauk argues that mass
incarceration negatively impacts the convict and the family unit in the following four areas: (1)
Disturbance of free and fair elections; (2) Loss of the promise of the American dream; (3)
Forfeiture of pensions, disability benefits, and veerans benefits; and (4) Failure to achieve future

because this is against the principles of laws and rules. Additionally, nowhere it is written that
Socrates has a contract with his state to follow the rules, and If he wants he can escape. So If he
breaks the law, it will not be a big risk for the state, because it is already incorrect. On the other
hand , he said that an injustice should not be rewarded with another injustice, because it leads to
more evil. He mentioned that it is unjustly to escape from prison because this will be breaking the
law, but the real meaning is Athens and wrongful death sentence against him, just because he is
innocent man and it is more unjustly to death for something which actually you have never did it.
Can we say that Socrates believed in something insane and impossible? Definitelly yes Because
of this he will never understand the chance to escape and So one must never do wrong
(Crito,49b)All in all, instead of his friends help, he did not leave the prison and just drink his
cup with poison. In conclusion, Crito dialogue maybe teach us that everybody have point of
view over the life. Maybe Socrates wants to value the Law and for him this is right and death is
a free will. He believed that the Law have given him the possibility to have the great life and
without law he will never be this person who is now.

Dbq Robber Barons
From 1865 to 1900, a surge in industry and business began to come into effect. Railroads, oil,
steel, and various inventions enabled the rise of these businesses. As time went on, the leaders of
the businesses would become more eager to achieve wealth. Some historians have described these
people as robber baronsor people who use extreme methods to control and maintain their wealth and
power. Others would chastise that belief, declaring that it is an unjust conclusion to draw. Despite
the oppositions fervent belief, the undeniable evidence supports the belief that many of the
businessmen in the late 19th centurywere robber barons . These men had a blatant disregard for
human lives and an unquenchable urge to assume control over citizens lives that instilled
corruption and greed in them. One of the most prominent bodies of proof is the lack of care for
the worker s and the public s well being. A businessman, William H. Vanderbilt, revealed his own
morality when asked about his motives for laying his railroads. A reporter from the Chicago
Daily News asked Vanderbilt if he was motivated by the benefit to the public. To which, Vanderbilt
candidly responded, The public be damned (...) I don t take any stock in this silly nonsense about
working for anybody s good but our own (Doc 1). Vanderbilt inadvertently revealed a significant
truth about himself and his fellow businessmen. Vanderbilt did not care about how his business

Personal Standards Of Right And Wrong Essay
Ethics refer to your personal standards of right and wrong. Ethics do not change as you move

The Origin Of Life Terrestrial Or Extraterrestrial Essay
Introduction There is no one universally accepted paradigm for the origin of life. Rather, there are
two competing schools of thought that debate the question: Was the origin of life terrestrial or
extraterrestrial? Both of these theories recognize that life must have been synthesized under natural
conditions, that molecules organized themselves into the first molecular system, that atmospheric
oxygen and ozone were rare, and that electrical activity may have produced monomers. The
scientific and technological advancements that have emerged as a result of investigations into the
origin of life have profoundly impacted our society and our knowledge of life, space, and
cosmochemistry. Early Emergence of Cosmochemistry and Sociopolitical Hindrance The list of
cosmic abundances was compiled by Victor Goldschmidt in 1938 and concluded that Extraterrestrial
material must also be included to produce the most accurate and robust data (Citation). The
template for life remained unknown to society, so a broad approach to include both terrestrial and
extraterrestrial sources was imperative to the investigation into the origin of life. Unfortunately, the
Great Depression diverted society s attention towards surviving through the low living standards, so
there was an overall disinterest in anything scientific. Although World War II lifted society out of
the Great Depression and brought many scientific advancements related to warfare, no

Organ Shortage Around The World
In the 21st century, it is obvious to the world that there is an organ shortage around the world.
Many thousands, hundreds of thousands of people are waiting for organs to save their lives. There
are just not enough organs to be spread around to the people who urgently need them. The global
response to this problem is very different throughout different countries. Some countries are
harvesting organs, some executing prisoners, some paying people to donate, some allowing people
to sell them on the black market, and some countries just urging people to donate out of the
kindness of their hearts. The organs and tissues you can currently donate (deceased) are; liver, heart,
lungs, cornea, tissue, pancreas, kidneys, small intestines, blood, blood vessels, bone marrow and
other parts of the bone, heart valves and skin. Organ donationis a very controversial topic, with
many nations taking different opinions as a whole. But why are some people so hesitant to donate
their organs to the people who really need them?
The first question is really; how many organs do we actually need? Currently, the Australian
Donation rate is 16.1 donors per million. 16 people in every million donating their organs. That is
approximately 384 donors in the whole population of Australia. You may think that is quite a lot,
but when there are 1600 people urgently waiting for an organ, this measly 384 people is just not

The Art Within The Film The Triumph Of The Will
The Art Within
Just like France, the United States, and Russia, Germany also began to make films, as a way to
entertain the working class in an inexpensive way. By 1933 Adolf Hitler came to power, creating
very harsh social condition that made several writers, actors, and directors flee Germany because
they feared that if they stayed they would have gotten killed. Joseph Goebbels later came to run the
UFA, as a government owned production company to make films that were shown to civilians
and the military as propaganda on March 13 , 1933, and intended to censor German cinema to
make the people believe that they were fascist. Numerous movies in that period of time tried to
steer clear of talking about the Holocaust to distract people from what was really happening and to
make Hitler seem almost godlike. One film in particular directed by Leni Riefenstahl called The
Triumph of the Will became a well known example of propaganda in film history. Throughout the
film, you really get to experience a sense of historical context that influenced thousands of people
during the time of World War 2. Today, several people view The Triumph of the Will and have a
difficult time distinguishing whether or not they can conclude if they view the film as propaganda
or an actual piece of art. Triumph of the Will is a documentary of the Nazi Partyconference in 1934
in Nuremberg. From the first frame of the film, Riefenstahl captures every essence of how

Women s Role In The Civil War
What s Your Role?
In Analysis: the Role of Women During the Civil War
Laurel Thatcher Ulrich once uttered, Well behaved women seldom make history. Laurel was a
professor at Harvard University and an author. This is very crucial during The American Civil War.
The
Civil War lasted from 1861 1865. It has been said that this is the bloodiest war out of all the other
wars.
The war was against the Union and the Confederate armies. The Union is the North and the
Confederates were the South. The war started because of uncompromising differences between the
free states (north) and the slave states (south) over the power of the national government to prohibit
slavery (Stauffer). The war officially commenced at Fort Sumter on April 12, 1861. The... Show

There are four hundred documented cases of women fighting in the war (Women and the American
Civil War). There were more women that dressed up they just weren t caught. Women were not
allowed to fight in the Civil War. At this time there were only able to be nurses. That evidently didn
t stop the women from enlisting. The women who tried to enlist were kicked out. Women would
chop off their hair and trade their dresses in for guns so that they could fight for what they believed
was best for our country. People were very judgmental about the women were willing to enlist
before they disguised themselves. The men and other women thought that those girls were mentally
unbalanced or prostitutes. Some would say that those women had unadulterated patriotism
(Dillard). These women were often seen as outcasts in society where men and women had
completely different responsibilities. Women in the nineteenth century filled a specific role in
society and it wasn t to be

How Does Samuel Beckett Create Suspense In Endgame
This one act play Endgame is written by Samuel Beckett, and discusses the idea of beginning, and
end, and also delves into the idea of relationship between two people, and the emotions that came
out of that .The way samuel beckett uses words in this play seems to be baffling due to the fact
that the language used in this play is their to try and evoke certain emotions in the audience such as
happiness, anxiety , and bittersweet, thus making the audience feel a sense of excitement due to the
fact that every words spoken could mean the end, beckett does this to create a sense of suspense,
and sometimes hype in the audience. Samuel Beckettuses suspense in Clov s Speech to try and
generate the feeling of suspense in Clov s words, and his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

uses this line by clov to intimidate the audience into thinking that his action garner no meaning. The
word purpose is really important in this line because Samuel Beckett is trying to get the audience to

Innovation according to Steve Jobs distinguishes a leader and a follower because in innovation
you create something new, it is different from an invention. Innovation is an insight or an idea
that is original and useful and in demand, it is something that nobody had done before and it
meets the needs of the present. Innovation is usually a technology or it may be a process or a
system that provides a solution to a problem. The importance of eco entrepreneurs and innovative
initiatives in the local communities of America could be the best prevention if it may not be a
complete cure. Eco entrepreneurs are those people who can identify opportunities in the midst of
an economic downturn. They are creating a sustainable business and they conduct their business
with love and respect to our Earth and its people. Eco entrepreneurs have a long term goal and
they want a sustainable business. An example of eco entrepreneurs in the United States today,
according to Majora Carter (2010) in her talk on Ted there are three existing eco entrepreneurs in
the Unites States of America today, for example our first eco entrepreneurto create a new
innovation that could start the change in smaller communities is based in Chicago, Brenda Palms
Barber, CEO of Sweet Beginning, who is a manufacturer of honey based skin care products but
aside from her eco friendly products her company s real ministry is to train and employ ex convicts

Biblical Interpretation Of The Bible Essay
Genesis 1 3 offered the very first outline of societal norms and therein introduced interpretations of
norms related to family, gender, and sex. In our now progressive society, the constraints of
indubitable religion are removed and the differing interpretations of gender, sex, and family within
religion are freely debated. Since the text of creation is divine and human logic cannot fully
interpret or understand God s word, there are copious, varying interpretations of the text. An
essential starting point for interpreting the Bible is the understanding that misinterpretations are
bound to happen. The difference in time and context alone is causation, let alone the factors of
translation and transcription. Susan T. Foh and Carol Meyers, both graduates of Wellesley College,
have very differing strategies regarding how to interpret divine texts. Meyers, a professor at Duke,
directed attention towards the context in which the text was written. Since our societies are
constantly in flux, the context from when the text was written is often different from the context in
which predominant and accepted interpretations were fabricated. Foh s strategy of interpreting and
understanding the text is to utilize latter parts of the text, which were written with more recent
contexts, in order to understand the text. Both of these methodologies set up the text to be re
interpreted, however, Foh s methodology is more complete because it allows the text to speak for
itself rather than bring in

CMGT/441 INFORMATION SYSTEMS RISK MANAGEMENT
Week 4 assignment
Wonyie V. Zarwee
November 29, 2010
While it lessens the burden on organizations, reducing and shifting the cost and risk of its IT
operation, security and management issues to an external service provider or vendor, outsourcing
any portions of an organization s Information System has significant risks that can sometimes
become detrimental to the outsourced organization. According to the Commission on Government
Outsourcing, when outsourcing an organization exposes itself to significant risks in terms of
security, accuracy, and completeness of information (Holroyd City Council, 2008) . Comprised in

The theft or sharing of information could be intentional or unintentional. In any of these case, even
if the outsourcing service provider keeps the outsourced information available, unchanged and
accessible to the owners at all times, there are still risks of possible data confidentiality issues.
The use of an enterprise service provider for processing information systems applications such as
payroll, human resources, or sales order taking is another excellent way for organizations to
minimize cost while still experience the full benefit of an IT system. It is worth noting that while
this is very cost effective and significantly reduces the load on an organization, outsourcing an
organization s IT applications to an enterprise service provider for processing is a risky path to
thread. Information privacy and integrity are at a very great risk here. An enterprise service
provider or employers of the provider are capable of selling out the customers, employees and
sales information of one organization to another. Employees of the Service providers could also
include their name (create false employees) among the names of legitimate employees of the
outsourced organization and masquerade as one of the real employees and receive pay every pay
period. These and other privacy and integrity concern must be taken into serious consideration by
organization outsourcing interested in outsourcing to an enterprise service

The Guardian Article, By Glenn Greenwald
In the Guardian article, Committee to Protect Journalists issues scathing report on Obama
administration, authored by Glenn Greenwald, he and others depict the Obama administration as
the most secretive and the worst ever on issues of national security and press freedom (Greenwald,
2013, np.). Yet, the United States government s aggressive efforts to control information, thwart
accountability reporting, maintain national security secrets, and the persecution of government
whistleblowers, is not new, nor is it unique to the Obama administration. The practice of attempting
to expand and concentrate power in the executive branch of government is historically consistent
with past administrations. In my opinion, the Obama administration ... Show more content on

The executive branch of the government may need to keep certain information secret, but to claim
certain information secret under the guise of national security or executive privilege because it may
reveal misconduct or embarrassing information about the government s actions is fundamentally
wrong and should be impermissible. Today, it seems like the aggrandizement of the power of the
executive branch of government trumps all else. This concentration of power in the executive
branch is not what the framers intended nor is it consistent with the Articles of the Constitution of
the United States. Over time, despite the fact that the Constitution provides the president with only
a few specific and enumerated powers, presidential authority has greatly expanded. Previous
government administrations have seized opportunities arising during crises such as the Civil War,
World War I and II, and the contemporary War on Terror to further expand the scope of executive
power. While this expansion of presidential power has been facilitated by Congressional action in
certain instances, the executive s authority expansion is to a greater extent the product of
presidential unilateral action based on broad interpretations of enumerated

  • 2. The Iran-Iraq War Essay The Iran Iraq War While the Iran Iraq War during the 1980 s may have permanently altered the course of progress in Iran and Iraq, the war also altered the resulting permanent involvement of the rest of the world in the middle east. The rich and complicated history in Iraq has established numerous cultural and ethnic traditions that all play a part in where the country is today. The Iran Iraq War brought into focus some of those traditions and how they conflicted, while also bringing Iraq and its economic situation into the spotlight. Being on top of some of the most mineral rich soil in the world makes Iraq a major contributor to the world s economy through petroleum and crude oil exports. This, among other reasons, ties nations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Safavids were the first the first to declare Shia Islam the official religion of Iran, and their interest in Iraq lay in the Shia holy places in central Iraq, and also the fact that Baghdad held significant symbolic value as the seat of the ancient Abbasid Empire. The Ottoman Empire on the other hand was afraid that Shia Islam would spread to Asia Minor, and thus looked to control Iraq as a Sunni dominated buffer state. During the Ottoman period, the Sunnis were placed in political positions, while the Shias were then shut out of the political process. This divide between the Sunnis and the Shias continued to be more and more of an important element in the Iraqi social structure, and remains an issue even today. It was also during this time period that the Kurdish Baban Dynasty emerged and began to organize resistance to the Ottoman rule in Northern Iraq. Then came the First World War and with it the defeat of the German army and their allies, including Turkey. As a result in 1919, Iraq, as well as Palestine, came under the control of Great Britain who proceeded to draw out the borders and establish a government that would best suit them. The years which followed were filled with revolutions, jihad, and unrest, as the British sought to maintain control of a nation with which they knew very little about. ... • 3. Taking a Look at Veganism For this assignment, I volunteered at the Earthstock celebration on April 25th. Earthstock is a week long, campus wide event that is used to educate students, alumni, and the general public about sustainable practices that help the environment. During the final Earthstock celebration, exhibitors from many different organizations, such as EmPower Solar and Vegan Outreach, set up tables displaying information regarding healthy lifestyle practices, alternative diets, and sustainable forms of energy. For this event, I was unfortunately assigned the task of helping other student volunteers and exhibitors check in and set up their tables. However, after volunteering, I was able to observe and learn about many of the organizations that had attended the event. One of the most notable parts of Earthstock for me was the reciting of the Green Pledge. Just by reciting the pledge, I realized that there were many other ways to promote environmental sustainability other than just recycling. For example, by registering to vote you are helping the environment because it gives you a say in environmental policy decisions. I learned about groups such as Pride Patrol, and I learned about the impacts that certain events, such as Recyclemania, have on our campus and the environment as a whole. Another notable moment for me was learning about the benefits of a vegan diet from the Vegan Outreach organization. I learned more about the horrors that occur in slaughterhouses and poultry farms, and I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Exploring The African American Woman s Identity Through... Exploring the African American Woman s Identity through the Arts In the Africa American culture, there has been a longstanding discussion of the black woman s physical appearance and how they identify themselves in society. Though there are many themes of the Black experience in the media that discuss the standard of beauty Black women should have. However, theatre has a creative and tactful way of exploring these topics that are considered taboo in the African Americanculture. During the Black Arts Movement, topics such as black empowerment and self identity were the blue print for what the movement stood for. In reference to, A Brief Guide to the Black Arts Movement Writers, African American artists within the movement sought to create politically engaged work that explored the African American cultural and historical experience (A Brief Guide to the Black Arts Movement Writers.1). Prolific writers such as, Ntozake Shange s, Amari Baraka, and Nikki Giovanni, just to name a few, were revolutionary in a creative and political movement, which allowed for writers and poets to demonstrate the pains and qualms of what African Americans faced in Western society. Two African American playwrights, Lorraine Hansberry and Adrienne Kennedy, expounded on these topics in their plays A Raisin in the Sun and Funny House Negro. In the further exploration of stigmas of African American female hair and self identification through theatre, these plays will be used as a platform to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Journey Short Story We exited the cave, and it gave way to the castle s large and wall less garden, where many gathered. Some sat on blankets for winter picnics, while others danced to a folk tune I didn t recognize, but it was the young woman in a black dress that made me smile. With all caution and care, she played with a group of five to eight children. They didn t cry, but offered simple smiles, laughter and giggles, as her game of Ring Around the Rosie, switched to Duck, Duck Goose. It brought a tear to my eye to know that those who had departed had indeed found some respite, some semblance of peace that transcended time and space, and those children were cared for, loved even. Scanning the area, I shielded my eyes from the blinding white snow and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You told him to watch over me? Of course. Loki is selfish. I braced myself from the blizzard forming in my mind. Loki had blinded me with his charm, and I d let him. Yes, Midgard is being overrun, Loki interjected. We must return to assist in its defense. Thor turned his attention back to me, and seeing his glee, I hated every moment of it. You came for me like I knew you would. He gushed. To me, I could still smell Loki on my skin. That of sugar, honey and desire. It now began to mix with regret and betrayal. You knew I would? My voice squeaked. You have always been such a force to reckon with, one of honor and courage. I knew you d make sure that I, no we, could defend Midgard, and with you being here now, the gate shall open and I can finally leave. Thor headed back in the direction from which Loki and I came. Loki reached out to take my hand. I snatched it out of his grasp. You did this. I knew something was off, but instead of listening to my instinct, that little voice inside, I gave you the benefit of the doubt. I stomped through the snow behind Thor s long strides. Hmong Culture Essays Hmong Culture Food, Eating and Cooking Diverse Cultures in America Soc 240 Upper Iowa University The Hmong people are originally from rural mountainous areas in Laos and they still inhabit that country to this day. Laos is a country that is located in Southeast Asia. Hmong people are divided into clans or tribes that share the same paternal ancestry. The Hmong people inhabited all parts of Laos but all carried pretty much the same cultures and livelihood with them as many immigrated to the United States in the past few decades (Ohio State University, 2005). Vegetable oils and pork fats are the primary fats used in cooking if an oil is needed. The Hmong culture does not usually use salt and pepper, since it was not readily available in Laos. But it is been found in more and more of American Hmong kitchens. There were many products that Hmong use today in America that were not readily available to them in Laos. Dairy products are one product which was unavailable most of the time in Laos, though at times goat milk was used to supplement diets. Many Hmong continue to not use dairy products because of the moderate percentage of Hmong that are lactose intolerant. The overall fat content in the Hmong diet is very low. • 7. Marriage By David Popenoe And Barbara Dafoe Whitehead... Marriage: a fairy tale where every moment leads to happiness and everlasting love. In the article What s Happening to Marriage? the authors David Popenoe and Barbara Dafoe Whitehead reverse the fairy tale of marriage. The article conveys a different aspect of marriage that marriage is weakening and divorceis on the rise. The authors believe men and women of this time have more struggles when marrying one another than when their parents or grandparents got married. The authors arguments are well supported, but their use of fallacies outweighs their theories. David Popenoe and Barbara Dafoe Whitehead claim that in today s society marriageis becoming more of a trust issue than previously thought. They believe marriages have none of these elements: ...an economic bond of mutual dependency; a social bond supported by the extended familyand larger community; and a spiritual bond upheld by religious doctrine, observance and faith (520). Marriage is becoming more of a couples relationship and losing meaning in society s culture; therefore, the rate of divorce is increasing causing people to be cautious of marriage. Popenoe and Whitehead use numerous statistics about divorce rate; however, they only examine the women s point of view. According to the authors, this is not the first time marriage has gone to the dumps and recovered causing the authors to delay on writing marriage s obituary. The authors of the article value a considerable amount of appeals that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Unobtrusive Attitudes Beyond Fazio et al. s (1995) intention to introduce an unobtrusive method of measuring attitudes (in their case, prejudice against African Americans), they demonstrated the problems of reactivity and conceptual confounding present in the frequently used Modern Racism Scale (MRS). Such unreliability of explicit attitude measures puts the use of self reports in social psychological research into question. Essentially, their study aimed not so much as to demonstrate how prejudice is expressed and manifested but to provide evidence for their own method of measuring attitudes as they are automatically activated. Central to their method is the hypothesis of facilitation: Participants will assign positive or negative valences to presented adjectives at a shorter and response latency (i.e. facilitated) if the adjective s valence is congruent to the evaluation automatically activated by the prime. People are then not asked explicitly asked about their attitudes (which is instead inferred from the pattern of facilitation), thus eliminating their tendency to choose which responses would... Indeed, the unobtrusive attitude measures correlated significantly with the experimenter s interaction ratings (based on the friendliness and interest of the participant). However, such measure remains a form of self report liable to subjective biases and rating errors. The researchers also offered no explanation as to whether the experimenter had been trained on what criteria of rating was to be used. This issue may be crucial as such ratings have been used extensively to distinguish between the unobtrusive measure and the MRS, and to attest to the former s ability to predict actual prejudice behavior (i.e. predictive ... And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can t do is ignore them. Because they change thing.[...] ( cited) What he says is agreeable because the one that does not conform, will be the one that changes themselves, their society and even their future. This matter is an open topic of debate because one may agree that an individualdoes not need to conform to society s ideals in order to find their happinessor be successful in life. When an individual chooses to not conform, it will lead them to their future and their own accomplishment. In the play,12 Angry Men, by Reginald Rose, readers can understand that one do not have to conform to what is the majority but an individual could be successful with their own action and thoughts. • 11. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s One Day Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich explores the man s struggle to survive in the trying circumstances of a Soviet Gulag. Though the novel leads the reader through the horrific conditions in one of the work camps, it does not focus on the lack of hope that the men feel but it focuses on the perseverance and resilience of the prisoners. Shukhov s character shines through as a prominent example of the courage of the souls in the work camps. Further, Alyoshka proves to never give up in the face of extreme conditions and is always around to help his gang. Finally, Tyurin s undying devotion to leadership provides a refreshing look into the resilience of the prisoners. Solzhenitsyn expertly constructs intricate layers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the author reveals through Shukhov s actions the determination that mankind experienced in the gulags. Shukhov takes a job, which could normally be considered a gruelling task, and turns it into an act of fortitude. As the sole thing he sees is the wall in front of him (97) and he shouts to not give up yet, boys! (109), he strongly exemplifies the perseverance of the prisoners. The task that he is given should dishearten him but instead, boosts his morale and thus, his determination. The character of Shukhov is crafted as a glaring example of the resilience men have in a gulag, and this is additionally explored through the characterization of Alyoshka. Solzhenitsyn creates the compelling character of Alyoshka who stays true to himself and to others in the face of adversity. Staying faithful to his religion gives him the strength he requires in order to focus on the positive outcomes of the gulags. Contrary to popular opinion, the author uses Alyoshka s dialogue to exhibit the positivity as he says to [b]e glad [they are] in prison so that they have time to think about [their] soul[s] (177). He regards his imprisonment as a time to reflect upon his spirit and the kind of person he is which is a true accomplishment of the human spirit in the calamity of a gulag. And, sometimes but not often, we think about the environmental, ethical and social impacts it has. Nowadays, it s a standardised idea that it is extremely important to take in these factors when choosing and purchasing products; however, is it really as important as it is portrayed to be? To come to a conclusion as to whether or not it is important to think about the environmental, social and ethical impacts when buying a product, both sides shall be discussed. The environment is probably one of the most debatable subjects around right now. And yet another debatable aspect about the impact on the environment is related to the body products. One must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chemicals used and the consequences related to them are similar to those stated above. Another factor where body products endanger the environment is when it comes to packaging. Statistics show that in fact body products make up a third of all landfill waste. The packaging being non bio degradable is left lying in landfills, waiting for hundreds of years to break down. With enough threats to the environment, is there really need to worsen its condition even more? As can be seen above, the environmental impact of body products is quite profound. Body products that go into the ocean can also cause dangerous consequences to the eco system, especially to the organism living there. Even the packaging of body products affects the environment. Therefore, the environmental impacts should be taken seriously when choosing a body care product. Yet, some are still doubtful. They think that perhaps they are part of a scheme to scare people with over exaggerated statistics and dangers. Some believe we are being too paranoid and easily swayed by what we hear. So are we creating needles worries and stirring a storm out of nothing? Before, we jump to conclusions too quickly by drawing conclusions from things we hear; we should see the concrete evidence first. Although there has been lots of research, nothing has been 100% confirmed nor are they extremely certain the effects are caused by the body care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His superhero persona also has a star shaped mouth hole evocative of Captain America, who has stars proudly portrayed all over his outfit that symbolizes truth, justice, and freedom. Of course, depending on their background, someone in the target age group may develop an opposing position to some of the scenes depicted. For instance, some may think that the depiction of bullying is wholly inaccurate and misleading, as actual physical violence is rare and usually only occurs in private areas. Rather, bullying is usually emotional or verbal, like spreading rumours or name calling, as that s more subtle and likely to pass under teachers or other students radars. They are civil unions, domestic partnerships and same sex marriage. In most cases, civil unions and domestic partnership laws only offer a fraction of the 1,049 benefits the United States government provides for couples in a heterosexual marriage. Frivolous mistakes, such as incorrect verb tenses or sentence fragments, can easily make an English major appear unprofessional and unskilled. It is therefore vital to learn and relearn the rules of the English language to save oneself from embarrassment in a professional environment. A simple grammatical mistake, for example, may turn into habit. I identify with this group that requires a refreshment of the rules of grammar on occasion. Ultimately, throughout the duration of this eight week course, I have become more conscious of my writing and the errors I had been making and my handle of grammatical elements in the English language has decidedly improved.... Although I quickly grasped the definition and purpose of grammarians, identifying the same for linguists was difficult. Initially, I was slightly concerned about whether I would actually perform well in this course, like I had with previous English courses. Even after posting in the discussion topics and completing the assigned quizzes for the week, I still felt uncomfortable with the subject. Rather than simply reading and rereading the topic notes, I took a different route and did further research. Now, between the reading provided in the course content as well as additional articles, I can explain the difference between a linguist and a grammarian with confidence. A few weeks later, I found myself confused, again, as I took notes during week five. Independent, dependent, restrictive, and nonrestrictive clauses were a breeze for me, but the range of other clauses stumped me. Although I briefly learned about noun clauses in high school, I had completely forgotten the instruction I once received. This, however, was quickly remedied by the previously mentioned method further research. • 19. Political Beginnings Essay The early political beginnings of United States of America were quite rocky. During this time, politics became an ever growing issue. People were concerned about their wellbeing and whether or not the government was treating them fairly. This growing concern caused for groups of like minded people to band together for a common cause and create political factions. These factions grew to be our present day political parties. It was due to the ratification of the National Bank, The Whisky Rebellion, The Alien and Sedition Acts, and Jay s Treaty that took place between the eras of Washington, Adams, and Jefferson, that allowed for the Federalist and Democratic Republican parties to emerge and assert their differences in early America.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ratification of the National Bank widened the gap between Federalists and Republicans. Even though Washington strictly stated that the United States must be a faction less nation, Parties developed nonetheless. (Dawson, XIV) The 1794 Whisky Rebellion proved to be a turning point in American politics. In 1794, due to civilian anger towards a skyrocketing twenty five percent tax on whiskey, one hundred Pennsylvanian farmers banded together to protest the tax. The protesters attacked a U.S. marshal that summoned sixty people that failed to pay the tax to appear in court at Philadelphia. In response to this protest, Washington proclaimed that citizens who resorted to violent forms of protest would face harsh federal authority. Washington s attack against civilian misconduct showed that the federal government had the strength to enforce its law. This reaction attracted supporters to the federalist cause. This assertion strengthened the view of an aristocratic, elite, government and that the common people were unfit to be a part of the government and that a select few should be in command. Washington s quickness to impose strong federal power exemplifies the federalist ideals. The 1800 s election of Jefferson marked the era of the Democratic Republican. • 20. Determining the Carrying Capacity of Species All animals interact with their environment and their ability to grow is limited by the resources available to them. The maximum number of individuals of a species that a certain environment can support is called that species carrying capacity. Biologists can determine the population of a species based on the carrying capacityby using models. That can indicate whether certain species are endangered or abundant in the wild. There are numbers of factors that can determine a species carrying capacity and models can be used to show the populationgrowth of that species. Competition is a limiting factor that can determine a species carrying capacity. When population increase, individuals start competing for food, shelter, and the most suitable mates. While the stronger individuals tend to survive, the weaker individuals begin to die off because of insufficient resources for everyone in the community. Competition can lower birthrates and increase death rates. When two different species live in the same area, they compete for resources in that environment and typically one species is eliminated by the other. The population will reach its carrying capacity when competition reduces the size of the population to what the environment can support. Predationand herbivory are another limiting factor that can determine a species carrying capacity. Predation is when a population feeds on another population for sustenance. Not only is it beyond the length and reading level appropriate for younger audiences, it often covers what some parents might consider inappropriate topics. Imagine finding an illustrated children s bible containing graphic stories about talking to ghosts or children being burned alive as sacrifices to God. These are troubling stories that actually appear within the Hebrew Bible, which even some adults may feel uncomfortable discussing. Academic scholarship of the Bible, however, should not be influenced by such discomfort. This has led a handful of scholars to study these death related experiences within ancient Israelite contexts. The last thirty years have revealed at least two contemporary topics of conversations between scholars within this subfield: necromancy and child sacrifice among ancient Israelite religion. Typically, dialogue about ancient Israelites is framed among the broader beliefs and practices of peoples from the surrounding geographical region including the Canaanites, Egyptians, and other ancient peoples; these topics are no exception. While, there is also no consensus among modern scholars, the majority of academics appear to accept both child sacrifice and necromancy as a historical practice belonging to the worship of Yahweh. Nonetheless, these scholars continue to do so with varying degrees of beliefs about the particular conditions during which these controversial customs were performed. ... If the client is in need of the clothes then I do not think it would be violating any codes because they need them because they do not have clothes or need something to wear to say a job interview, however, because this could be taken out of context such as having a dual relationship with a client. I would ask the agency that I work for if it is alright to give the clothes to a client that needs them and if not then I would donate them. Giving a client clothes may be seen as having both a professional relationship and social relationship with the client, however, it is not because the clothes were offered because the client had an immediate need. Rather, there are two competing schools of thought that debate the question: Was the origin of life terrestrial or extraterrestrial? Both of these theories recognize that life must have been synthesized under natural conditions, that molecules organized themselves into the first molecular system, that atmospheric oxygen and ozone were rare, and that electrical activity may have produced monomers. The scientific and technological advancements that have emerged as a result of investigations into the origin of life have profoundly impacted our society and our knowledge of life, space, and cosmochemistry. Early Emergence of Cosmochemistry and Sociopolitical Hindrance The list of cosmic abundances was compiled by Victor Goldschmidt in 1938 and concluded that Extraterrestrial material must also be included to produce the most accurate and robust data (Citation). The template for life remained unknown to society, so a broad approach to include both terrestrial and extraterrestrial sources was imperative to the investigation into the origin of life. Frank was not charged with crimes against peace, due to the fact he had not been part of the military circle that had planned the war. Nonetheless, he was charged with count one, the crime of conspiracy, the American Prosecution debated that he had actively promoted the coming to power of the Nazi leadership through his legal activities. More significantly Frank was charged with war crimes and crimes against Humanity. • 38. Organ Shortage Around The World In the 21st century, it is obvious to the world that there is an organ shortage around the world. Many thousands, hundreds of thousands of people are waiting for organs to save their lives. There are just not enough organs to be spread around to the people who urgently need them. The global response to this problem is very different throughout different countries. Some countries are harvesting organs, some executing prisoners, some paying people to donate, some allowing people to sell them on the black market, and some countries just urging people to donate out of the kindness of their hearts. The organs and tissues you can currently donate (deceased) are; liver, heart, lungs, cornea, tissue, pancreas, kidneys, small intestines, blood, blood vessels, bone marrow and other parts of the bone, heart valves and skin. Organ donationis a very controversial topic, with many nations taking different opinions as a whole. But why are some people so hesitant to donate their organs to the people who really need them? The first question is really; how many organs do we actually need? Currently, the Australian Donation rate is 16.1 donors per million. 16 people in every million donating their organs. That is approximately 384 donors in the whole population of Australia. You may think that is quite a lot, but when there are 1600 people urgently waiting for an organ, this measly 384 people is just not enough. This situation is viewed differently around the globe. • 39. The Art Within The Film The Triumph Of The Will The Art Within Just like France, the United States, and Russia, Germany also began to make films, as a way to entertain the working class in an inexpensive way. By 1933 Adolf Hitler came to power, creating very harsh social condition that made several writers, actors, and directors flee Germany because they feared that if they stayed they would have gotten killed. Joseph Goebbels later came to run the UFA, as a government owned production company to make films that were shown to civilians and the military as propaganda on March 13 , 1933, and intended to censor German cinema to make the people believe that they were fascist. Numerous movies in that period of time tried to steer clear of talking about the Holocaust to distract people from what was really happening and to make Hitler seem almost godlike. One film in particular directed by Leni Riefenstahl called The Triumph of the Will became a well known example of propaganda in film history. Throughout the film, you really get to experience a sense of historical context that influenced thousands of people during the time of World War 2. Today, several people view The Triumph of the Will and have a difficult time distinguishing whether or not they can conclude if they view the film as propaganda or an actual piece of art. Triumph of the Will is a documentary of the Nazi Partyconference in 1934 in Nuremberg. From the first frame of the film, Riefenstahl captures every essence of how worshiped Hitler ... The freedom to roam around, catch a bite, a coffee, read a book, hang out with friends or even just relax is there. A variety of shops surrounds Denton s courthouse giving the people choices from choosing an ice cream shop to getting a tattoo. However, as many people would say there is one particular spot that catches our attention even from a couple blocks back. A building on the south side of the courthouse is illuminated by a red and blue neon guitar logo that lights the night away. While a band plays its music on the rooftop of the building. Underneath the neon lights, crowds of people are standing next to the red brick walls waiting to be called in by an LSA hostess. As I walk in I am greeted with a welcoming smile, and a fresh smell of cooked burgers but beyond that I look to my left and see a column of artist s names hanging on the walls. Above the names there is a beautiful piece of artwork filled with colors, in resemblance to Leonardo da Vincis The last Supper masterpiece. It features Jesus in a laughing manner, surrounded by hamburger buns on the table and joining him were Texas music legends Willie Nelson, George Jones, Stevie Ray Vaughan, T bone Walker, Selena and a couple more wonderful artist. • 49. Biblical Interpretation Of The Bible Essay Genesis 1 3 offered the very first outline of societal norms and therein introduced interpretations of norms related to family, gender, and sex. In our now progressive society, the constraints of indubitable religion are removed and the differing interpretations of gender, sex, and family within religion are freely debated. Since the text of creation is divine and human logic cannot fully interpret or understand God s word, there are copious, varying interpretations of the text. An essential starting point for interpreting the Bible is the understanding that misinterpretations are bound to happen. The difference in time and context alone is causation, let alone the factors of translation and transcription. Susan T. Foh and Carol Meyers, both graduates of Wellesley College, have very differing strategies regarding how to interpret divine texts. Meyers, a professor at Duke, directed attention towards the context in which the text was written. Since our societies are constantly in flux, the context from when the text was written is often different from the context in which predominant and accepted interpretations were fabricated. Foh s strategy of interpreting and understanding the text is to utilize latter parts of the text, which were written with more recent contexts, in order to understand the text. Both of these methodologies set up the text to be re interpreted, however, Foh s methodology is more complete because it allows the text to speak for itself rather than bring in ...
