Eisenhower s Life And Accomplishments
Dwight David Eisenhower Dwight David Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas, on October
14, 1980, and he grew up in Abilene, Kansas. He won an appointment to the United States
Military Academy, where he graduated in the middle of his class. He also received a position to
the Command and General Staff College (History 2). Eisenhower served as a military aide to
General Douglas MacArthur, U.S. Army chief of staff and to General John J, Pershing,
commander of U.S. forces during World War I. He also directed the invasion of Normandy,
France, on D Day. Eisenhower was the Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in Western
Europe during World War II. He made an impact in the U.S. through his military service.
Eisenhower returned from the Philippines where he served under General MacArthur after the
invasion of Germany sparked the outbreak of World War II (Millcenter 2). In late 1940
Eisenhower was made Chief of Staff of the third division, where he received an assignment. In the
summer of 1941 Eisenhower became the Chief of Staff to General Walter Kreuger. Kreuger s
army was preparing to participate in war maneuvers and Eisenhower s task was to work out a
power defense against the invading force. After the maneuvers... Show more content on

D.C. In November of 1942, he led Operation Torch, the Allied invasion of North Africa. This was
an attack across the English Channel, the principal allied offensive effort. The Allies commenced
as a combined operation under the command of Eisenhower. The objective of this maneuver was
to seize the main ports between Casablanca and Algiers (USHMM 2). Many troops faced
resistance from Casablanca and Algiers. Eisenhower motivation was to push quick east along the
Mediterranean and take the important ports of Bizerte and Tunis. The invasion was a success along

Duality Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson in 1886, is a very peculiar
thriller which tells the story of a lawyer from London, named Gabriel John Utterson who
investigates a series of strange occurrences between one of his old friends, Dr. Henry Jekyll and
the evil Edward Hyde.
Robert Louis Stevenson believed that every human in this world have both good and evil within,
and therefore he decided to write a book that shows this duality of mankind in the form of an
allegorical story. However, the duality of mankind isn t the only important theme in this book since
Stevenson also wanted to criticize the Victorian Era, especially the city of London during the
Victorian Era. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Since Stevenson believed that everyone has good and evil within, he
makes a great deal of exaggerating both the evil and the good part of every human. The most
obvious indication of this is that Dr. Jekyll always enjoyed doing evil things, even though his
consciousness was troubling him whenever he did these evil acts, which lead to Dr. Jekyll
separating the good and bad parts of him and thus creating Mr. Hyde. In doing so, he showed how
every person is affected by two personalities which balance each other out, kind of like Yin and
Yang. When he separated these to personalities, there was nothing to keep his bad side in check and
therefore it ran loose without anything to hinder

Evan Morgenstein On Social Media Stereotypes
The social media celebrity has killed the traditional sports marketing agent. That s at least what
marketer Evan Morgenstein recently told Forbes. Morgenstein believes that, The athlete market is
dead. Sports agents are losing so many deals that they used to get as full endorsement deals to
celebrities just willing to lend themselves on social media. [There is] no need for appearances or
traditional advertising.
Morgenstein holds the sentiment so true that he s abandoned professional athlete marketing for the
social media celebrities that cut into his former sector.
Though most athletes should expect lesser endorsement payouts in the coming years, Morgenstein
believes that the top athletes can still expect even higher payouts like

The Tsunami Of The Earthquake
The Tsunami March 11, 2011 was a day that impacted many lives. Little did anyone know that
thirty seven miles off the east coast of Japan a disaster was brewing. Tension on the Circum
Pacific Belt was released. When this tension released the Pacific Plate was thrusted 5 8 meters
above its previous location(book). This thrust upward displaces water, which will cause a
tsunami. A tsunami is large ocean wave that are set in motion be a major undersea
earthquake(book). The upward movement of the Pacific tectonic was the earthquake. Japan is
located on the Circum Pacific Belt. This is the edge of the Pacific Plate that encompasses many
coastal regions, and holds many areas of a lot of tectonic plate movement(Book). The
Earthquake that caused the tsunami in Japan was a level 9 magnitude. Earthquakes of
magnitudes of 8 or great would have to be a tension snap that occurs along a segment that is
around 600 miles in length(Book). This is an extraordinary length. This is about the distance
from Dayton Ohio to New York, New York. Can you Imagine a piece of land that massive
shifting upwards as much as the Pacific Plate did? The tsunami in Japan was a wave of about 40
meters high. Since the earthquake happened 37 miles off of the coast of Japan(Book), there was
plenty of time for the wall of water to build. When the earthquake occurred there was a retreat of
all of the water on the coast. It appeared that the water had been sucked away, but in reality it hadn

Script For Us Soviet Space Race Presentation
Script for US Soviet Space Race Presentation
Americans, traditionally, love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle...Americans
love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time...That s why
Americans have never lost and will never lose a war. Because the very thought of losing is hateful
to Americans This quote from the 1970 biopic of General George Patton illustrates the worldview
of Americans during and immediately following World War II. When the new battle of the Cold War
began, the Soviet Union became our new enemy, to be absolutely and utterly defeated by any
means necessary. Not only was each advancement by the U.S. a victory, but each one by the USSR
was implicitly a failure. This mindset culminated in the U.S. Soviet Space race, a struggle to
obliterate the other side technologically while leaving no room for collaboration. This presentation
seeks to explain the history of the event, as well as the positive and negative effects of the
competitive factor.
To briefly roadmap how this presentation will proceed, I will first explain the contributing factors
that went into starting the conflict, followed by how it began. Then, I will follow by highlighting
some major accomplishments from both sides. From there, I will explain the media s take on the
events as they unfolded, how the race ended, and finally conclude with an analysis of how the race
positively and negatively impacted the world.
So, I ve already explained why

Similarities Between Let The Right One In And Twilight
These days scary movies have many things in common, including events, settings, and characters.
Of course, there are just as many differences used to keep the audience interested. Two horror
movies Let the right one in and twilight are taken for comparison and tried to prove that Let the
right one in has more depth and meaning of human spirit, invokes feelings and thoughts that stay
with you, long after the movie is over. These two movies have many similarities, but they also have
characteristics to make them unique. Both movies are based on superficial acts, but Let the right

It is completely based on fiction and it doesn t come closer to the reality. In the movie, romance of
a boy Edward Cullen and a girl Bella Swan is shown where boy is a vampire they met in a high
school. However it is not easy to digest that girl is in relationship with a vampire who drinks
animal blood while another vampire James comes in the town who wants to hunt Bella. There
is a fight between Edward and James where Edward gets succeeded to save Bella. The whole
story looks unreal and just a mixture of emotions and horror. Key problem in Twilight is the
concept that since Bella loves a vampire and to get him in her life, she has to die so she will also
be a vampire after death. Overall idea of the movie is good that two different kinds of kids comes
closer in a high school and falls in love but it doesn t look convincing. This movie doesn t show
any association of actual human spirit between the hero and heroine. This film is totally a fiction
based film because in real life no one is willing to die soon to be a vampire after death. It gives a
different kind of deceptive message which told you to go in a relation with a vampire to remove all

Abstract
Dark Matter, one of the mysteries of Science that has us puzzled even after nearly 70 years of it s
initial prediction. Why? Has it got us on the edge of our seats so often. The answer lies in the
sheer magnitude of the Dark Matter all around us. If certain predictions are true, then even right
now as I write this , and when you read, billions of Neutrinos (hypothesized Dark Matter particle)
are passing through us , without us even feeling them. Various astronomical techniques such as
Gravitational Lensing, and Galaxy Rotation Curves have revealed that the mass of the celestial
clusters such galaxies andd galaxy clusters is majorly composed of something other than what we
observe from our conventional observation techniques. That is to say all the planets, stars and gas
we observe in a particular galaxy, contribute to a mere 4.6% of the total mass of the universe.
It s simple mass predictions of the

An Analysis of Conrad s Heart of Darkness Essay
An Analysis of Conrad s Heart of Darkness In the twentieth century, nihilistic themes, such as moral
degeneration, man s bestial instincts at the core of the soul, and cosmic purposelessness, have
preoccupied many works of literature and philosophy. Joseph Conrads Heart of Darknessis no
exception. In his novel, Conrad uses a unique writing style to explore man s fundamental fallibility

Finally, in the book s resolution, Marlow visits Kurtz s Intended and not having the heart to tell her
the awful truth of man s dark soul, lies to her about Kurtz s last words.
Running throughout the book is the theme of the heart of darkness, which is in man. Though at
first darkness is referred to superficial ideas such as the undiscovered and mysterious lands at the
heart of Africa or the AfricanВЎВЇs dark skin, it is soon made clear that the true darkness is the
evil in manВЎВЇs heart, beneath all of societyВЎВЇs expectations of him. If left to his own devices,
as the Company employee was, man would run wild and evil. To be left unaccountable to any
superior authority is more than any man can bear, and eventually his own evil will drive him mad.
This is what happened with Kurtz. Renowned at first for his ingenious ideas of bringing education
and civilization to the dark continent of Africa, Kurtz eventually degrades himself as Marlow soon
finds out when he finds Kurtz wasted away physically and morally. Consumed by the monster that
lies dormant at the bottom of every man s soul, Kurtz is openly brutal in his repression of the
natives and even allows

Analysis Of Long Day s Journey Into The Night And The Enemy
In the two readings of Eugene O Neill s Long Day s Journey Into the Night and Margarita
Spalding Gerry s The Enemy , we can compare and contrast the main characters of the women in
each reading on behalf of their drug addiction. In Eugene O Neill s Long Day s Journey Into the
Night, Mary Tyrone struggles with her addictionof Morphineand in Margarita Spalding Gerry s The
Enemy , Mrs. Campbell also struggles with morphine addiction. In both readings we can
compare and contrast each of these women s lifestyles and how they are affected by their
morphine addiction. In both readings, these two women were prescribed morphine by their
doctors. In Long Day s Journey Into the Night, Mary Tyrone is prescribed morphine for her so
called Rheumatism and Mrs. Cambell from The Enemy was prescribed morphine for some
slight neuralgic trouble, after analyzing both texts, it seems like the reasons for their morphine
prescription is just a cover up for a different and a more deep reasoning to kill their pain. In The
Enemy the doctor is blamed for prescribing Mrs. Campbell morphine just to make a profit, Oh
yes, there are always druggists that pander to anything with a profit Both doctors can be put at
fault for the start of their addiction for prescribing morphine to someone who does not
necessarily need it. By prescribing morphine to these women, they have an excuse to continue
their use of morphine because they believe they have a logical problem that they need to control.
In Long Day s Journey Into the Night, Mary recognizes her doctor is all in it for profit, I hate
doctors! They ll do anything anything to keep them coming to them. They ll sell their souls!
What s worse, they ll sell yours, and you never know it till one day you find yourself in hell!
(P.76) Even though Mary recognizes the truth behind these doctors, she stills uses her Rheumatism
disease as a legitimate excuse to use morphine as she explains to her son Edmund that she shouldn
t be ashamed of her addiction, I suffer from rheumatism in my hands and have to take medicine to
kill the pain? Why should I be ashamed of that? (P. 118) The more in depth cause of these
addictions may be affected by cultural expectations of their

Due Process and Crime Control
The Warren Court left an unprecedented legacy of judicial activism in the area of civil rights law
as well as in the area of civil liberties specifically, the rights of the accused as addressed in
Amendments 4 through 8. In the period from 1961 to 1969, the Warren Court examined almost
every aspect of the criminal justice system in the United States, using the 14th Amendment to
extend constitutional protections to all courts in every State. This process became known as the
nationalization of the Bill of Rights. During those years, cases concerning the right to legal counsel,
confessions, searches, and the treatment of juvenile criminals all appeared on the Court s docket.

He signed the confession willingly. The prosecution was proper, his conviction was based on
Arizona law, and his imprisonment was just. The Supreme Court should uphold his conviction and
should not further cripple the work of police.
By a 5 4 margin, the Court voted to overturn Miranda s conviction. Chief Justice Warren declared
that the burden is upon the State to demonstrate that procedural safeguards effective to secure the
privilege against self incrimination are followed. The current practice of incommunicado
interrogation is that the individual may not be compelled to incriminate himself.
Warren then summarized the case, measuring it against the fundamental fairness standards the
Court had established. It is clear, he wrote, that Miranda was not in any way apprised of his right to
consult with an attorney and to have one present during the interrogation, nor was his right not to
be compelled to incriminate himself effectively protected in any other manner. Without these
warnings [his] statements were inadmissible. The mere fact that he signed a statement which
contained a typed in clause stating that he had full knowledge of his legal rights does not approach
the knowing and intelligent waiver required to relinquish constitutional rights.
Turning to the standard for a valid waiver of rights, Warren wrote: A valid waiver will not be
presumed simply from the silence of the accused after warnings are

Types Of Compensation For Employees
Types of Compensation
Natalie A. Szczep

Intermediate Accounting II
Keiser University
Abstract
There are many different forms of compensation that employers pay to their workers. The
accounting treatment of these various forms of pay are different depending on the type, frequency
and amounts of compensation due. Each type of compensation also has different disclosures
required, advantages and disadvantages based on the accounting rules. The following pages will
take a closer look at three forms of compensation: base wages, vacation pay, and bonuses.
Salaries expense is the most basic type of compensation to be accounted for. Salary is
compensation paid to an employee for services rendered to a company. The entries recorded to pay
salaries are entered based on the pay cycle of the company, whether it is weekly, biweekly, monthly
or bimonthly, etc. These pay cycles do not always coincide with the issuing of financial statements,
and the income statement must show total expenses for that period. Expenses for salaries are
accrued, to show that the amounts have been earned, even if the pay date occurs after the end of
the accounting period and therefore, the issuing of the income statement (Averkamp, 2015). The
accrual for salaries expense is classified as a current liability on the balance sheet per the FASB
code 210 10 45 8c (Asc.fasb.org, 2015). So, the accounting treatment and classifications are fairly

Montag’s Gradual Change in the Book Farenheit 451 Essay
In the book , Farenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, there are a lot of symbols present. But, the most
omnipresent symbol is the fire symbol. The plot of this book depends solely on this symbol. The
reason for this symbol s importance is that Montag s changing attitudes reflect the differing
meanings of the fire symbol. If one examines the way Bradbury uses the fire symbol to reveal
Montag s attitude towards life and his society, one recognizes that everything has good and bad
qualities. It is in also in one s best interest to take only the good. At the beginning of the book, the
fire symbol represents destruction and reveals Montag s unquestioning correspondence with society.
This can be proven when, the firemen, with 451 (the temperature... Show more content on

To start the beginning of his new life, Montag looks at fire positively, therefore changing fire s
meaning to warmth and togetherness. This occurs when Montag travels the railroad and spots a
strange fire that is warming (147). This really sets Montag up for a more positive outlook on life
as it changes in his perception of fire. He begins to see fire as more of an asset than a restriction.
In addition (connecting word), when fire cooks the bacon while the men watched this ritiual
silently (165), the author shows that fire has brought the men together and is a benefit rather than
a detriment (summary phrase). Although the fire symbol is seen as a symbol of community, it
changes again to reveal Montag s need to reform society at the end of the book. When the first
bomb strikes, the entire city becomes flat (163 164). Consequently (connecting word), Montag s
slate gets wiped clean and so does the city s. In other words, the fire symbol represents rebirth and
reform. Montag and his intellectual friends now have an opportunity to change the society they
once knew and hated. But the first thing they will do is build a mirror factory and take a long look
at them (166). They will then examine past catastrophes to prevent them in the future. Basically,
they are going to rebuild with the intention of never getting back to society s old ways. This
(pronoun) reinforces the fact that the fire symbol represents reform. As

The Attention Span Of Goldfish Have Longer Attention Spans...
Goldfish have longer attention spans than Americans. Yes, you read that correctly. As you may
already know, the attention span is the amount of time an individual is able to concentrate on one
particular action. However, you most likely did not know that the average attention span of a
human being has dropped from 12 seconds in 2000 to 8 seconds in 2013. (Brenner) The average
attention spanof goldfish is 9 seconds and due to the effects of various sources of media, this is
now one second greater than the average human. Over the years of exposure to social media and
live updates, American culture has progressively shortened the attention spans of our citizens, and
this is prevalent in the work of famous musicians and their albumsales.
Although there are many different forms of media that have been impacted in this attention span
shift, I would like to emphasize the shift in music sales. The steady decrease in attention span
correlates directly with album sales over the last 35 years. I have selected 3 albums, released in
1980, 1990, and 2000, to show the steady decline in album sales. I chose ACDC s Back in Black
for its iconic history, Madonna s The Immaculate Collection for its unique impact, and Eminem s
The Marshal Mathers LP for its distinct recognition. The sales of these albums show the decline in
album sales over time. Each of these massively popular artists had less and less success selling
albums, compared to individual songs in the music industry

Mabo Case
Legal studies Law Reform
Legal studies Law Reform
The Australian Legal System response to the Mabo case has changed greatly ever since the first
time it was introduced. Many different acts were introduced and/or amended as a result of this case.
The effectiveness of the law and the law reform in protecting the rights of individual and society at
large is demonstrated throughout this essay.
Eddie Koiki Mabo was born on Murray Island in 1936 and was an Indigenous Australian. In 1974,
during a conversation with two academics, Mabo became aware to the fact that his family did not
own their traditional lands and that it was, in law, owned by the Crown. The Queensland
Government wanted to remove any doubt that the Meriam people had total ... Show more content on

The Mabo decision ended the idea of terra nullius in relation to Australia, when it recognised the
Meriam people as the owners of the Murray Islands. It also opened the door for other Indigenous
groups to be able to claim ownership of land that they could prove a continuous connection with.
Unfortunately Eddie Mabo had died of cancer in February 1992, just 4 months before this historic
high court ruling that would change Australian land law. The judgement was so historic because it
completely overturned the idea of terra nullius and said that native title survived in many places,
even though the land had been taken by the Crown. With Terra Nullius distinguished, it proved the
point that Murray Islands first inhabitants were in fact the Meriam people.
With the Mabo case being successful many other cases came about for example Wik Peoples v.
The State of Queensland (also known as the Wik Decision). It is a decision of the High Court of
Australia in December 1996, regarding the right of access by the Wik peoples of Cape York
Peninsula in North Queensland to Crown land held under pastoral leases for cattle grazing. The
court decided (4 judges to 3) that the rights of indigenous people who can prove a connection to the
land can coexist with the rights of the pastoralists, but where there is any inconsistency between the
two, the rights of the pastoralist will prevail. In other words, pastoral leases do not automatically

How Canada Remained Independent of Foreign Control but...
How successful Canada was on remaining independent of foreign control, whilst being a part of
international decision making.
Canada remained independent of foreign control a majority of the time, but at others it did give
in to the pressure put upon it. Canada also got to be a big part of the decision making because it
put itself out there, got recognized as a middle power and proved its worth.
Some of the ways Canada remained independent of foreign control are: When president Reagan s
administration had a project they were trying to get Canada involved in called the Strategic
Defence Initiative (SDI, but also referred to as Star Wars). This was a plan to arm satellites that
could destroy soviet missiles from space. Not many people ... Show more content on

When NORAD was put in place during 1985 many Canadians were angered because they felt it
threatened Canadian independence and since the soviet missiles would be intercepted and
destroyed over Canada, Canada would be the one facing damage and destruction, not the US, but
despite this, Canada has maintained its commitment to NORAD. Canada and Americas economies
are very alike, to this day.
In 1945 when the UN was officially founded, Canada argues to be made a middle power, meaning
they would get recognition for being capable of holding their own, and the contribution they made
during World War II. Canada is very well known for their participation in every UN peacekeeping
operation. Lester B. Pearson even won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1957. When Egypt nationalized the
Suez Canal, Britain, France and Israel made a secret pact to invade Egypt. Israel attacked Egypt
while Britain and France took over the Canal. The situation grew tense when many countries
denounced the invasion. Lester B. Pearson proposed to the UN that Britain, France and Israel
withdraw their troops and the UN send a peacekeeping army into Egypt. His proposal was
accepted. Canada also adapted a new flag, which in a way was to show they had completely
detached themselves from Britain. In 1949 Canada had signed the NATOtreaty. That was the first
time Canada had signed a military

7 Terraces In Dante s Comedy
Love, in Dante s view, is the force behind all human action (Musa, p. 112). Similarly, Augustine
believes that love is the path to happiness, stating, What was it that delighted me? Only loving and
being loved (Augustine, 2, p. 62). In Dante s Divine Comedy: Purgatory, Dante tells the story of a
pilgrim traveling through the seven terraces in Purgatory. On his journey, the pilgrim learns the
consequences of loving even good things too much. In particular, the last three terraces of
Purgatory that he visits demonstrate the dangers of loving good things with excessive zeal (Dante,
17.96). In Augustine s Confessions, he converses with God describing his journey from being

When Dante sees the fire that engulfs the seventh terrance leaving only a narrow path to walk he
becomes terrified, since there was the fire, and here I could fall off (Dante, 25.116 117). The
fact that there it is so easy to fall off of this narrow path symbolizes that most people do fall into
the sin of lust, and very few are able to stay on the narrow path of not falling into this sin.
Through this book, Dante has been making this journey to finally see his lover, Beatrice, who
died several years ago. Although Beatrice symbolizes faith, she also is the object of Dante s lust.
When Dante finally sees Beatrice, he senses Signs of the ancient flame (Dante, 30.48). This
flame represents the lust he had for Beatrice. Even though, Dante has passed the seven terraces
he still does not fully love God. Dante gave mind and eye to satisfying her, over satisfying God
(Dante, 32.108), and his attention is solely fixed on Beatrice who reigned completely in [his]
mind (Dante, 32.93). It is not until Dante realizes that Beatrice represents faith in God and
revelations that, What [he] had loved the most of all the thing that were not she, [he] hated now

Essay about The Middle Colonies
After the first few struggling settlements in the New World progressed, more and more colonies
sprung from the untested North American soil. Eventually, there were three main categories to the
European colonies. They were each unique, although one certain class stood in stark contrast to the
other two. This group, the Middle colonies, was a halfway point between the New England and
Southern colonies and not just geographically. The Middle colonies extracted parts of its neighbors,
like farming habits and spiritual sects, but the middle group managed to retain its own flavor.
Perhaps one of the most important circumstances of the New World was the varying climate. The
North American continent was not the same as its southern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A significant factor of any civilization, be it vast as the Roman Empire or pitifully miniscule, is
spirituality. Religion was (and even remains to be) a big part of North America. New England was
strictly Puritan. English Puritans sought out haven in the New World, far away from persecution in
the mother country. The Southern colonies consisted mostly of Anglicans, though some may
speculate that the Southerners were more concerned with worshipping wealth. The Middle colonies
were quite different in that there was no single dominant religion. Pennsylvania, which contained
the largest city in all the thirteen colonies, was well known for its many Quaker residents.
However, there was also a fair share of Jews, Catholics, and other faiths, as well as the standard
Puritans and Anglicans. Overall, the most defining factor of the Middle colonies was its ethnic
diversity. The backgrounds of its inhabitants included (but was not limited to) German, Dutch,
Scotch Irish, English, French, Welsh, Swedish, Polish, and Finnish. New England could not
compete, for its population was almost entirely English, save for the scattered Dutch remnants of
New Amsterdam and the Native Americans, of course. The South was biracial, which meant that
one was black, white, or an exceedingly rare mixture of the two. The Middle colonies had slaves,
though its percentage of slaves in the population was between those of

to sell more of those same things for different people. In this option the Raju Omelet can target a
new area rather than Al krama area to reach to different people in Dubai.
Market penetration in the lower left quadrant, is the safest of the four options. Here you focus on
expanding sales of its existing products for existing market: you know that the product works, and
the market some surprises for you remains (Tony,2000,P239).. With this approach, it is to sell
more of the same in the same market and Raju Omelet can sell more things which are made by

Product development, in the lower right quadrant, is a little more risky, because a new product is

Who Is Vincent Van Gogh The Starry Night
Vincent Van Gogh s pull to paint locations and places that had a personal relationship with is well
known to most. In the year 1889, Vincent Van Gogh provided us with the painting we all know too
well, Starry Night, this painting represents the view Van Gogh had during his time hospitalized in
the asylum located in Arles. This painting since the year of 1941, remains in the permanent
collection of the Museum of Modern Artin New York. Throughout this artwork you can see the
personal emotion that went into his work, from the boldness in color, his breaststrokes, and
composition through out this piece. The Starry Night, to myself is a vast combination of many
opposites; simple and complex, plainness and beauty, light and darkness. Van Gogh s... Show more

The use of the swirls in the sky keep the viewers eye moving in a swirling notation, it directs the
viewers eye all around the painting. While breaking in the precise spacing between the stars and
the dot to dot development that creates a curving silhouette. These different elements work
together to achieve fluidity. The composition of this piece is somewhat stylized and surreal to
me, instead of using silhouettes in this piece he chose to use line. Through his composition
there are multiple forms of expression, which are used to depict van Gogh s current emotion
during the tie of the piece. His dimness of the night sky represent the turbulent quest to
overcome his current illness, along with the village being painted with dark colors that really
give it depth in comparison with the vibrant stars and crescent moon. These two work together
to portray a darkness with depth and the provide the viewer with a sense of comfort with the
brightly lit windows in the village homes as well. The village located to the bottom middle and
right is a peaceful sight compared to the dark and harsh night sky, the silence and somberness can
almost be felt through this piece. The composition of the steeple located in a mass of depth,
which provides a sense of isolation and size then dominating the village providing a sense of
seclusion of the town. To the left foreground of this piece a curvy cypress tree represents mourning
with the fluid brush strokes that enhance the fluidity of the painting, this provides an ease to the
viewers eyes. The composition of this painting was well articulated by keeping the audience s
attention, to keep the audience eye moving from the vibrance of the stars to the darkness of the
town, to the lighter mint cypress tree and the dark mass. It is a piece that the audience want to
continue looking at to pay more attention to the small and

A Report On The Price Of The Dollar
Following the Brexit vote on the 23rd of June 2016, the pound fell to 31 year low against the
dollar, falling from $1.50 to $1.33 in a matter of hours. The sharp devaluation of the pound against
the dollar made AB InBev s all cash offer unattractive to SAB s shareholders, who were to be
compensated in sterling, and made the partial share alternative a lot more attractive. Therefore,
SAB stakeholders, excluding Altria and BevCo, rejected the offer, threatening to drop the deal.
Eventually, after strenuous negotiations, on the 25th of July AB s board agreed to raise the offer

Database Administrators
1Introduction
Database is any collection of data or information, that is specially organized for rapid search and
retrieval by a computer. Databases are structured to facilitate the storage, retrieval, modification, and
deletion of data in conjunction with various data processing operations.
A database consists of a file or a set of files. The information in these files may be broken down
into records, each of which consists of one or more fields. Fields are the basic units of data
storage, and each field typically contains information pertaining to one aspect or attribute of the
entity described by the database. Using keywords and various sorting commands, users can rapidly

Recoverability is the DBA #8217;s most important concern.
Recoverability, also sometimes called disaster recovery, takes two primary forms. First the backup,
then recovery tests.
The backup of the database consists of data with timestamps combined with database logs to
change the data to be consistent to a particular moment in time. It is possible to make a backup of
the database containing only data without timestamps or logs, but the DBA must take the database
offline to do such a backup.
The recovery tests of the database consist of restoring the data, then applying logs against that data
to bring the database backup to consistency at a particular point in time up to the last transaction in
the logs. Alternatively, an offline database backup can be restored simply by placing the data in
place on another copy of the database.
If a DBA (or any administrator) attempts to implement a recoverability plan without the recovery
tests, there is no guarantee that the backups are at all valid. In practice, in all but the most mature
RDBMS packages, backups rarely are valid without extensive testing to be sure that no bugs or
human error have corrupted the backups.

Integrity means that the database, or the programs that create its content, embody

All our knowledge begins with the senses, proceeds then to the understanding, and ends with
reason. There is nothing higher than reason. There two ways of gaining knowledge which are direct
observation and reflection. Observation is a fundamental way of finding out about the world around
us. The key elements of learning through observationare seeing and listening attentively to
whatsoever one is observing. Reflectionis replicating what one sees and listens while observing. It
involves describing everything you can see out of your window. Reflection involves linking a
current experience to previous learning s as reflecting on experiences encourages insight and

America s Postwar Role
During the war, many visions of America s postwar role began to emerge. One of the key roles
that began to emerge was the idea of equality for all. Americans established that Americanism
rested on toleration of diversity and equality for all, while the enemy s philosophy was racism.
So, by the end of the war the new immigrant groups had been fully accepted as loyal ethnic
Americans, rather than distinct and inferior races. Another idea of America s postwar role, was
brought to light in 1944 when the president called for an Economic Bill of Rights. Franklin D.
Roosevelt proposed to expand the government s power in order to secure full employment, an
adequate income, medical care, and a decent home for all Americans. Already ill and preoccupied

Westus IV Ephanes Contributions
In 175 BC, Antiochus IV Epiphanes became King of the Seleucids and nominated Jason, brother of

Additionally, he even executed those preforming traditional circumcisions. This was elevated by the

Accounting Information System Essay
Introduction The application of Accounting Information Systems has become widespread among
enterprises in Australia due to improved affordability and efficiency resulting from their technical
power. The vendors have moved from desktop systems to cloud accounting, and it has led to a
challenge of selection and implementation to customers and users. This paper offers a synthesis of
literature on AIS in Australia, its history, development, and adoption, analysis of the current market
size and how the leaders in the market have managed to carve out their competitive advantage.
There are also gaps in the sector, in particular for customers. Hence the paper also provides
recommendations.
History
At the beginning of computerization, accounting software was automated and mainly included
modules such as accounts receivable, payroll, accounts payable and the general ledger. McMickle
(1989) provides that accountants were the only professionals who first used IT related systems.
Late in the 1970s, increase technical accounting issues led to the use of technical assistants who
developed and maintained AIS for organizations resulting in the emergence of the system
information sector within accounting. In the 1990s, resources events agents (REA) were initiated
and with database technology advancement, new accounting models emerged (Walker and Denna,
1997). AIS could capture data which sometimes was not financial related accounting hence REA
led to applications for detailed business

The book The Flash Boys by Micheal Lewis has created large amount of publicity around the
practice of High Frequency Trading (HFT). The concept of HFT is one of the most recent
advancements in the Financial Markets but the effect that it will have are still unknown.
Currently industry and academics are very divided if this practice is creating or destroying
value for investors. In the past year since the book was released there has been increases in
knowledge about HFT through academic research, Lawsuits, and the Media. The first thing that is
needed is to understand how a HFT company like Virtu is able to make $732 Million last year and
then looking at arguments both for and against HFT. Does High Frequency trading deserve to be

underlying principles that make it easy to understand the industry. There are 2 areas where the
profits from High frequency Traders are derived from.

As part of the ergoline family, LSD is often classified as a synthetic drug because it is produced

Metamorphosis In Jane Eyre
Helen Burns, the childhood friend of the titular Jane Eyre, lives not to see the second volume of
Charlotte BronteМ€ s preeminent novel. Similar to her gravestone inscription, however, Helen rises
again, her influence extending farther than those of her childhood exploits. The older orphan s
unique opinions toward feminism, power dynamics, and most importantly, religion, live on through
Jane Eyre, forming a parallel legacy to compare all of Jane s decisions to. Through exploring Jane
s religious transformation in context to Helen, Eyre is revealed as less egalitarian and rather elitist,
one who strives for power and domination rather than feminist equality.
To understand Jane s metamorphosis, however, one must first contextualize both Helen s and Jane s
original viewpoints. Upon entering the Lowell school, Jane suffers from a persistent insecurity.
Scarred from her lack of love in Reed house, Jane binds her happiness to the opinion of others,
childishly announcing, I would rather die than live I cannot bear to be solitary and hated
(BronteМ€ 8). In turn, Helen sagely responds, You think too much of the love of human beings...
the sovereign hand... has provided you with other resources than your feeble self... Why, then,
should we ever sink overwhelmed with distress, when... death is so certain an entrance to
happiness? (BronteМ€ 8). Essentially, Helen argues for complete independence from others
opinions, for in death all is forgotten. When contextualized in Victorian culture,

Chuck Berry An Eccentric, African American Rock N ...
In the winter of 1957, Chuck Berry an eccentric, African American rock n roller from St. Louis
recorded one of his most popular and influential songs: Johnny B. Goode (Taylor 27). During a
time when Jim Crow laws still had a place in American life and active racism towards African
Americans and minorities was commonplace, Chuck Berry s hit Johnny B. Goodebecame popular
amongst a white audience, and it reached the number eight position on the Billboard List in
1958 (Cooper 301). The rollicking song told a rags to riches story of a country boy named
Johnny B. Goode who could play the guitar just like a ringin a bell (Starr and Waterman 259).
The character Johnny B. Goode was not a one song wonder his tale was continued in two
additional Berry hits: Bye Bye Johnny (1960) and Go Go Go (1961) (Taylor 28 29). The saga of
Johnny B. Goode was greatly shaped by the times during which it was popularized in, and it
influenced the times as well. The timeless hit was successful and influential for various reasons: the
emergence and popularity of rock n roll in the 1950s, the catchy lyrics and instrumentation used in
the song, the genius of Chuck Berry himself, and racial tensions in the United States and the way
they impacted, and were impacted by, music. In order to understand the significance and impact of
the song, all of these factors must be explored.

Italian Renaissance Drawing
Drawing is one of the best forms for an artist to express themselves and their emotions. During
the Italian Renaissance drawing started to have a new meaning in the world of art. The most
famous artist during the Italian Renaissance is Giorgio Vasari. In the Middle Ages including the
Italian Renaissance many artworks remained unfinished. They are used to give glimpses of the
role that particular drawing was used for. An example would be an unfinished choir book from
earlier in the 15th century is an example of a phenomenon (1999.391). Later on in the Middle
Ages many drawings became useful to illustrate the scientific and scholarly works of scientists.
For example a professor wrote a text about the birth of Christ and then drew it. Hardware Timeline

The Chrysanthemums Symbolism
How can a flower simply represent the personality of a person? Chrysanthemum comes from the
Greek prefix of chrys meaning golden and anthemion meaning flower. John Steinbeck s short story
discusses the life of Elisa Allen, an advocate for gardening with an internal want for a more
fulfilling life. The chrysanthemum is an ironic flower to use in this story because the
chrysanthemum is a symbol of optimism and joy, which is lacking in Elisa s life. Steinbeck brings
the theme of genderinequality to the surface by using the symbols of the chrysanthemums and the
Salinas Valley as representations of different feelings and emotions in Elisa s life. In John Steinbeck
s The Chrysanthemums , the chrysanthemums themselves represent Elisa and... Show more content

The chrysanthemums symbolize Elisa s life and how society has forbidden her to be anything
other than a housewife or something within the boundaries of her home. When Elisa offers the
Tinker her chrysanthemums, she was also offering herself because she saw herself as one with
her flowers. When the tinker tosses her flowers on the road this mimics the way he rejects her
and the way society has rejected women. The flowers, just like women, are seen as merely
decorations, not something that can be daring. The chrysanthemums like women are golden, but
golden only in regards to looks, nothing more. When Elisa tells the Tinker she can fix pots and
would love to live the life that he had, he says It ain t the right kind of a life for a woman. Women
are supposed to be housewives and mothers. Even though Elisa wants a more thrilling life, she
follows in the footsteps of a traditional housewife. She laid out her husband s clothes and ran his
bath water because she knows that is her place, even if she disagrees with it. The Salinas tie
themselves to the theme because they limit the potential of Elisa s life just as society does. The
valley keeps Elisa within the confinement of her quaint life. The two men in Steinbeck s story,
Henry and the Tinker, do not notice the intelligence, beauty, and potential that Elisa has just as
society does not see it either. Steinbeck uses

Conformity versus Individuality in A Wrinkle in Time and The Giver
In The Giver, and The Wrinkle In Time they finally realize individuality. The wrinkle in time
author is Madeleine L Engle. The givers author is Lois Lowry. Meg finally realizes that
individuality is good. Being your own person is good. Instead of being all the same. Jonas realizes
that they had memories before the giver and jonas was born. The authors show the reader the theme
of the importance of individuality through the characters realizations, the leaders who control
society, and the conflict the characters resolve.
One way the authors show the theme is through the characters realizations. In A Wrinkle in Time,
Meg realizes that individuality is good.In the begining of the book she thought of her self as an

Villa Rica Christian Church
On the fifth of February, I went to my church, Villa Rica Christian Church. In my church, there is
a nursery for kids ranging from birth to two. The first toy was a rectangular box that has shaped
holes on the lid. On the lid, there are four shapes triangle, square, star, and circle. The second toy,
is a panel with four different popups of Sesame Street characters. To trigger the popup, a kid has
to either turn, press, or push a button. The third toy is a child like abacus with five rows of beads
that vary by colors red, yellow, blue, green, and orange.
In the nursery, I examined toys aimed at the sensorimotor stage of cognitive development. This
stage includes actions based on reflexes and the transition to actions based on intentions. Actions
that are satisfying are repeated by the child through a process called primary circular reactions.
Soon after this first stage, the child moves on to the secondary circular reactions or actions that
have an effect on the environment. After experiencing both of these kind of reactions, the child
then advances into more intentional actions. The child begins to have goal directed behavior and
curiosity which leads to experimenting. Lastly, the child will begin to understand symbolic problem
solving and object permanence.
The first toy has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

frustration may motivate some kids to continue or cause the majority to abandon the toy. Most
importantly, toys need to provide an avenue through which the child can become exposed or
practice the skills in their stage of development. For kids ranging from birth to two, toys need to
help them practice primary, secondary, and tertiary circular reactions, as well as goal directed
behavior and eventually object

Mississippi s Secession
Why some groups opposed Mississippi s secession was that those people didn t believe that it
was right to keep slaves, no one really minded it till after the American Civil War when people
started to realize that it was wrong to have slaves and that they should let them go and live a
equals, but Mississippi and a few other states didn t like this idea. So they decided to try and
become their own free country. People didn t like the idea of them separating just so that they could
keep their salve so they put it to a vote. It was the September elections where they allowed the
delegates to join for this momentous transmission. The unionists won with 57 percent of the votes,
they thought that that would ensure the separation would be voted down.

Why Is Shakespeare Relevant Today
Shakespeare is arguably the greatest playwriter that has lived and although he died more than
four hundred years ago he is able to live on through his plays and poems that continue to be
performed today. Shakespeare has a universal reach with his plays and works intended for any
audience that are entertaining but also include important lessons. There are arguments that his
relevancy is no longer, but perhaps with evidence provided people will be able to see his works
are more relevant now than ever. Without further study and only taking a Shakespearian play for
face value there are already characteristics that make his works so timeless. The setting, stories,
and characters all seem familiar when they are watched and sometimes the characters seem to
reflect one s self. The story of Romeo and Juliet, for example, is one of love and passion for two
star crossed lovers who desire nothing more than to be together. For some this may be an over
romanticised fantasy, but others... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More than that is the language he uses as well as the words and phrases he created that are still
being used today. Studying Shakespearian works is not only about analyzing story elements or
archetypal patterns but also learning where language that is being used comes from. A history class
teaches students how people got to Canada and what historical events have affected the way life is
today. In a very similar way the study of Shakespeare is a history lesson on literature and
vocabulary. Rather than teaching how Canadian culture was developed it is teaching how the
English language was further developed. For some students there might be a feeling of
disheartenment or hot bloodedness when they arrive at the realization that these eventful plays
must continue being studied but, in order to understand the language they use that Shakespeare
created they must look at how it is used and where these terms came

Usually this happens when people with skin infections share personal things like bed linens, towels,

system such as people who are immunocompromised, infants, and the elderly. Cellulitis is

People s History Of The United States By Howard Zinn Essay
The book People s History of the United States by the author Howard Zinn represents the history
to the readers in a different perspective, making the readers look into the history in a difference
lens making it insightful. What is a history? To answer this question, we must first establish a
commonality in language: namely, what is history? It is a continuous, systematic narrative of past
events as relating to a particular people, country, period, person which is usually written as a
chronological account. The author discusses about how the major events were recorded and mainly
the stories which were untold to the people and were left out of the mainstream history books. In
the first few chapters he gives critical details about how America was founded by Christopher
Columbusand gradually moving into detail about how he killed hundreds of native Indians in the
process of capturing the country. The author then moves into giving the readers about hidden class
struggles and the period of time where racism was affecting a majority of the people. Howard Zinn
also mentions about the wars, the Vietnam war and the Civil war that had changed the lives of
many in the past and how it has made a major impact in the past and today to the people. Some of
the details in the book are real life experiences by the author, because he is not only a writer but had
also served in the army in the world war two as a pilot, which makes the readers understand every
detail of some events as it is told

  • 3. Duality Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson in 1886, is a very peculiar thriller which tells the story of a lawyer from London, named Gabriel John Utterson who investigates a series of strange occurrences between one of his old friends, Dr. Henry Jekyll and the evil Edward Hyde. Robert Louis Stevenson believed that every human in this world have both good and evil within, and therefore he decided to write a book that shows this duality of mankind in the form of an allegorical story. However, the duality of mankind isn t the only important theme in this book since Stevenson also wanted to criticize the Victorian Era, especially the city of London during the Victorian Era. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Since Stevenson believed that everyone has good and evil within, he makes a great deal of exaggerating both the evil and the good part of every human. The most obvious indication of this is that Dr. Jekyll always enjoyed doing evil things, even though his consciousness was troubling him whenever he did these evil acts, which lead to Dr. Jekyll separating the good and bad parts of him and thus creating Mr. Hyde. In doing so, he showed how every person is affected by two personalities which balance each other out, kind of like Yin and Yang. When he separated these to personalities, there was nothing to keep his bad side in check and therefore it ran loose without anything to hinder ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tension on the Circum Pacific Belt was released. When this tension released the Pacific Plate was thrusted 5 8 meters above its previous location(book). This thrust upward displaces water, which will cause a tsunami. A tsunami is large ocean wave that are set in motion be a major undersea earthquake(book). The upward movement of the Pacific tectonic was the earthquake. Japan is located on the Circum Pacific Belt. This is the edge of the Pacific Plate that encompasses many coastal regions, and holds many areas of a lot of tectonic plate movement(Book). The Earthquake that caused the tsunami in Japan was a level 9 magnitude. Earthquakes of magnitudes of 8 or great would have to be a tension snap that occurs along a segment that is around 600 miles in length(Book). This is an extraordinary length. This is about the distance from Dayton Ohio to New York, New York. Can you Imagine a piece of land that massive shifting upwards as much as the Pacific Plate did? The tsunami in Japan was a wave of about 40 meters high. Since the earthquake happened 37 miles off of the coast of Japan(Book), there was plenty of time for the wall of water to build. When the earthquake occurred there was a retreat of all of the water on the coast. It appeared that the water had been sucked away, but in reality it hadn t, it was gathering ... • 6. Script For Us Soviet Space Race Presentation Script for US Soviet Space Race Presentation Americans, traditionally, love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle...Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time...That s why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war. Because the very thought of losing is hateful to Americans This quote from the 1970 biopic of General George Patton illustrates the worldview of Americans during and immediately following World War II. When the new battle of the Cold War began, the Soviet Union became our new enemy, to be absolutely and utterly defeated by any means necessary. Not only was each advancement by the U.S. a victory, but each one by the USSR was implicitly a failure. This mindset culminated in the U.S. Soviet Space race, a struggle to obliterate the other side technologically while leaving no room for collaboration. This presentation seeks to explain the history of the event, as well as the positive and negative effects of the competitive factor. To briefly roadmap how this presentation will proceed, I will first explain the contributing factors that went into starting the conflict, followed by how it began. Then, I will follow by highlighting some major accomplishments from both sides. From there, I will explain the media s take on the events as they unfolded, how the race ended, and finally conclude with an analysis of how the race positively and negatively impacted the world. So, I ve already explained why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Of course, there are just as many differences used to keep the audience interested. Two horror movies Let the right one in and twilight are taken for comparison and tried to prove that Let the right one in has more depth and meaning of human spirit, invokes feelings and thoughts that stay with you, long after the movie is over. These two movies have many similarities, but they also have characteristics to make them unique. Both movies are based on superficial acts, but Let the right one in has much better effects as compared to Twilight. It is completely based on fiction and it doesn t come closer to the reality. In the movie, romance of a boy Edward Cullen and a girl Bella Swan is shown where boy is a vampire they met in a high school. However it is not easy to digest that girl is in relationship with a vampire who drinks animal blood while another vampire James comes in the town who wants to hunt Bella. There is a fight between Edward and James where Edward gets succeeded to save Bella. The whole story looks unreal and just a mixture of emotions and horror. Key problem in Twilight is the concept that since Bella loves a vampire and to get him in her life, she has to die so she will also be a vampire after death. Overall idea of the movie is good that two different kinds of kids comes closer in a high school and falls in love but it doesn t look convincing. This movie doesn t show any association of actual human spirit between the hero and heroine. This film is totally a fiction based film because in real life no one is willing to die soon to be a vampire after death. It gives a different kind of deceptive message which told you to go in a relation with a vampire to remove all problems in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why? Has it got us on the edge of our seats so often. The answer lies in the sheer magnitude of the Dark Matter all around us. If certain predictions are true, then even right now as I write this , and when you read, billions of Neutrinos (hypothesized Dark Matter particle) are passing through us , without us even feeling them. Various astronomical techniques such as Gravitational Lensing, and Galaxy Rotation Curves have revealed that the mass of the celestial clusters such galaxies andd galaxy clusters is majorly composed of something other than what we observe from our conventional observation techniques. That is to say all the planets, stars and gas we observe in a particular galaxy, contribute to a mere 4.6% of the total mass of the universe. It s simple mass predictions of the ... Finally, in the book s resolution, Marlow visits Kurtz s Intended and not having the heart to tell her the awful truth of man s dark soul, lies to her about Kurtz s last words. Running throughout the book is the theme of the heart of darkness, which is in man. Though at first darkness is referred to superficial ideas such as the undiscovered and mysterious lands at the heart of Africa or the AfricanВЎВЇs dark skin, it is soon made clear that the true darkness is the evil in manВЎВЇs heart, beneath all of societyВЎВЇs expectations of him. If left to his own devices, as the Company employee was, man would run wild and evil. To be left unaccountable to any superior authority is more than any man can bear, and eventually his own evil will drive him mad. This is what happened with Kurtz. Renowned at first for his ingenious ideas of bringing education and civilization to the dark continent of Africa, Kurtz eventually degrades himself as Marlow soon finds out when he finds Kurtz wasted away physically and morally. • 10. Analysis Of Long Day s Journey Into The Night And The Enemy In the two readings of Eugene O Neill s Long Day s Journey Into the Night and Margarita Spalding Gerry s The Enemy , we can compare and contrast the main characters of the women in each reading on behalf of their drug addiction. In Eugene O Neill s Long Day s Journey Into the Night, Mary Tyrone struggles with her addictionof Morphineand in Margarita Spalding Gerry s The Enemy , Mrs. Campbell also struggles with morphine addiction. In both readings we can compare and contrast each of these women s lifestyles and how they are affected by their morphine addiction. In both readings, these two women were prescribed morphine by their doctors. In Long Day s Journey Into the Night, Mary Tyrone is prescribed morphine for her so called Rheumatism and Mrs. Cambell from The Enemy was prescribed morphine for some slight neuralgic trouble, after analyzing both texts, it seems like the reasons for their morphine prescription is just a cover up for a different and a more deep reasoning to kill their pain. In The Enemy the doctor is blamed for prescribing Mrs. Campbell morphine just to make a profit, Oh yes, there are always druggists that pander to anything with a profit Both doctors can be put at fault for the start of their addiction for prescribing morphine to someone who does not necessarily need it. By prescribing morphine to these women, they have an excuse to continue their use of morphine because they believe they have a logical problem that they need to control. In Long Day s Journey Into the Night, Mary recognizes her doctor is all in it for profit, I hate doctors! They ll do anything anything to keep them coming to them. They ll sell their souls! What s worse, they ll sell yours, and you never know it till one day you find yourself in hell! (P.76) Even though Mary recognizes the truth behind these doctors, she stills uses her Rheumatism disease as a legitimate excuse to use morphine as she explains to her son Edmund that she shouldn t be ashamed of her addiction, I suffer from rheumatism in my hands and have to take medicine to kill the pain? Why should I be ashamed of that? (P. 118) The more in depth cause of these addictions may be affected by cultural expectations of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due Process and Crime Control The Warren Court left an unprecedented legacy of judicial activism in the area of civil rights law as well as in the area of civil liberties specifically, the rights of the accused as addressed in Amendments 4 through 8. In the period from 1961 to 1969, the Warren Court examined almost every aspect of the criminal justice system in the United States, using the 14th Amendment to extend constitutional protections to all courts in every State. This process became known as the nationalization of the Bill of Rights. The prosecution was proper, his conviction was based on Arizona law, and his imprisonment was just. The Supreme Court should uphold his conviction and should not further cripple the work of police. By a 5 4 margin, the Court voted to overturn Miranda s conviction. Chief Justice Warren declared that the burden is upon the State to demonstrate that procedural safeguards effective to secure the privilege against self incrimination are followed. The current practice of incommunicado interrogation is that the individual may not be compelled to incriminate himself. Warren then summarized the case, measuring it against the fundamental fairness standards the Court had established. It is clear, he wrote, that Miranda was not in any way apprised of his right to consult with an attorney and to have one present during the interrogation, nor was his right not to be compelled to incriminate himself effectively protected in any other manner. Without these warnings [his] statements were inadmissible. The mere fact that he signed a statement which contained a typed in clause stating that he had full knowledge of his legal rights does not approach the knowing and intelligent waiver required to relinquish constitutional rights. Turning to the standard for a valid waiver of rights, Warren wrote: A valid waiver will not be presumed simply from the silence of the accused after warnings are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Types Of Compensation For Employees Types of Compensation Natalie A. Szczep August 15, 2015 Intermediate Accounting II Keiser University Abstract There are many different forms of compensation that employers pay to their workers. The accounting treatment of these various forms of pay are different depending on the type, frequency and amounts of compensation due. Each type of compensation also has different disclosures required, advantages and disadvantages based on the accounting rules. The following pages will take a closer look at three forms of compensation: base wages, vacation pay, and bonuses. Salaries expense is the most basic type of compensation to be accounted for. Salary is compensation paid to an employee for services rendered to a company. The entries recorded to pay salaries are entered based on the pay cycle of the company, whether it is weekly, biweekly, monthly or bimonthly, etc. These pay cycles do not always coincide with the issuing of financial statements, and the income statement must show total expenses for that period. Expenses for salaries are accrued, to show that the amounts have been earned, even if the pay date occurs after the end of the accounting period and therefore, the issuing of the income statement (Averkamp, 2015). The accrual for salaries expense is classified as a current liability on the balance sheet per the FASB code 210 10 45 8c (Asc.fasb.org, 2015). • 14. Montag’s Gradual Change in the Book Farenheit 451 Essay In the book , Farenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, there are a lot of symbols present. But, the most omnipresent symbol is the fire symbol. The plot of this book depends solely on this symbol. The reason for this symbol s importance is that Montag s changing attitudes reflect the differing meanings of the fire symbol. If one examines the way Bradbury uses the fire symbol to reveal Montag s attitude towards life and his society, one recognizes that everything has good and bad qualities. It is in also in one s best interest to take only the good. At the beginning of the book, the fire symbol represents destruction and reveals Montag s unquestioning correspondence with society. This can be proven when, the firemen, with 451 (the temperature... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start the beginning of his new life, Montag looks at fire positively, therefore changing fire s meaning to warmth and togetherness. This occurs when Montag travels the railroad and spots a strange fire that is warming (147). This really sets Montag up for a more positive outlook on life as it changes in his perception of fire. He begins to see fire as more of an asset than a restriction. In addition (connecting word), when fire cooks the bacon while the men watched this ritiual silently (165), the author shows that fire has brought the men together and is a benefit rather than a detriment (summary phrase). Although the fire symbol is seen as a symbol of community, it changes again to reveal Montag s need to reform society at the end of the book. When the first bomb strikes, the entire city becomes flat (163 164). Consequently (connecting word), Montag s slate gets wiped clean and so does the city s. In other words, the fire symbol represents rebirth and reform. Montag and his intellectual friends now have an opportunity to change the society they once knew and hated. But the first thing they will do is build a mirror factory and take a long look at them (166). They will then examine past catastrophes to prevent them in the future. Basically, they are going to rebuild with the intention of never getting back to society s old ways. This (pronoun) reinforces the fact that the fire symbol represents reform. As ... • 15. The Attention Span Of Goldfish Have Longer Attention Spans... Goldfish have longer attention spans than Americans. Yes, you read that correctly. As you may already know, the attention span is the amount of time an individual is able to concentrate on one particular action. However, you most likely did not know that the average attention span of a human being has dropped from 12 seconds in 2000 to 8 seconds in 2013. (Brenner) The average attention spanof goldfish is 9 seconds and due to the effects of various sources of media, this is now one second greater than the average human. Over the years of exposure to social media and live updates, American culture has progressively shortened the attention spans of our citizens, and this is prevalent in the work of famous musicians and their albumsales. Although there are many different forms of media that have been impacted in this attention span shift, I would like to emphasize the shift in music sales. The steady decrease in attention span correlates directly with album sales over the last 35 years. I have selected 3 albums, released in 1980, 1990, and 2000, to show the steady decline in album sales. I chose ACDC s Back in Black for its iconic history, Madonna s The Immaculate Collection for its unique impact, and Eminem s The Marshal Mathers LP for its distinct recognition. The sales of these albums show the decline in album sales over time. Each of these massively popular artists had less and less success selling albums, compared to individual songs in the music industry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The effectiveness of the law and the law reform in protecting the rights of individual and society at large is demonstrated throughout this essay. Eddie Koiki Mabo was born on Murray Island in 1936 and was an Indigenous Australian. In 1974, during a conversation with two academics, Mabo became aware to the fact that his family did not own their traditional lands and that it was, in law, owned by the Crown. The Mabo decision ended the idea of terra nullius in relation to Australia, when it recognised the Meriam people as the owners of the Murray Islands. It also opened the door for other Indigenous groups to be able to claim ownership of land that they could prove a continuous connection with. Unfortunately Eddie Mabo had died of cancer in February 1992, just 4 months before this historic high court ruling that would change Australian land law. The judgement was so historic because it completely overturned the idea of terra nullius and said that native title survived in many places, even though the land had been taken by the Crown. With Terra Nullius distinguished, it proved the point that Murray Islands first inhabitants were in fact the Meriam people. With the Mabo case being successful many other cases came about for example Wik Peoples v. The State of Queensland (also known as the Wik Decision). It is a decision of the High Court of Australia in December 1996, regarding the right of access by the Wik peoples of Cape York Peninsula in North Queensland to Crown land held under pastoral leases for cattle grazing. The court decided (4 judges to 3) that the rights of indigenous people who can prove a connection to the land can coexist with the rights of the pastoralists, but where there is any inconsistency between the two, the rights of the pastoralist will prevail. In other words, pastoral leases do not automatically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Canada remained independent of foreign control a majority of the time, but at others it did give in to the pressure put upon it. Canada also got to be a big part of the decision making because it put itself out there, got recognized as a middle power and proved its worth. Some of the ways Canada remained independent of foreign control are: When president Reagan s administration had a project they were trying to get Canada involved in called the Strategic Defence Initiative (SDI, but also referred to as Star Wars). When NORAD was put in place during 1985 many Canadians were angered because they felt it threatened Canadian independence and since the soviet missiles would be intercepted and destroyed over Canada, Canada would be the one facing damage and destruction, not the US, but despite this, Canada has maintained its commitment to NORAD. Canada and Americas economies are very alike, to this day. In 1945 when the UN was officially founded, Canada argues to be made a middle power, meaning they would get recognition for being capable of holding their own, and the contribution they made during World War II. Canada is very well known for their participation in every UN peacekeeping operation. Lester B. Pearson even won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1957. When Egypt nationalized the Suez Canal, Britain, France and Israel made a secret pact to invade Egypt. Israel attacked Egypt while Britain and France took over the Canal. The situation grew tense when many countries denounced the invasion. Lester B. Pearson proposed to the UN that Britain, France and Israel withdraw their troops and the UN send a peacekeeping army into Egypt. His proposal was accepted. Similarly, Augustine believes that love is the path to happiness, stating, What was it that delighted me? Only loving and being loved (Augustine, 2, p. 62). In Dante s Divine Comedy: Purgatory, Dante tells the story of a pilgrim traveling through the seven terraces in Purgatory. On his journey, the pilgrim learns the consequences of loving even good things too much. In particular, the last three terraces of Purgatory that he visits demonstrate the dangers of loving good things with excessive zeal (Dante, 17.96). Through this book, Dante has been making this journey to finally see his lover, Beatrice, who died several years ago. Although Beatrice symbolizes faith, she also is the object of Dante s lust. When Dante finally sees Beatrice, he senses Signs of the ancient flame (Dante, 30.48). This flame represents the lust he had for Beatrice. Even though, Dante has passed the seven terraces he still does not fully love God. Dante gave mind and eye to satisfying her, over satisfying God (Dante, 32.108), and his attention is solely fixed on Beatrice who reigned completely in [his] mind (Dante, 32.93). This group, the Middle colonies, was a halfway point between the New England and Southern colonies and not just geographically. A significant factor of any civilization, be it vast as the Roman Empire or pitifully miniscule, is spirituality. Religion was (and even remains to be) a big part of North America. New England was strictly Puritan. English Puritans sought out haven in the New World, far away from persecution in the mother country. The Southern colonies consisted mostly of Anglicans, though some may speculate that the Southerners were more concerned with worshipping wealth. The Middle colonies were quite different in that there was no single dominant religion. Pennsylvania, which contained the largest city in all the thirteen colonies, was well known for its many Quaker residents. However, there was also a fair share of Jews, Catholics, and other faiths, as well as the standard Puritans and Anglicans. Overall, the most defining factor of the Middle colonies was its ethnic diversity. The backgrounds of its inhabitants included (but was not limited to) German, Dutch, Scotch Irish, English, French, Welsh, Swedish, Polish, and Finnish. New England could not compete, for its population was almost entirely English, save for the scattered Dutch remnants of New Amsterdam and the Native Americans, of course. The composition of this piece is somewhat stylized and surreal to me, instead of using silhouettes in this piece he chose to use line. Through his composition there are multiple forms of expression, which are used to depict van Gogh s current emotion during the tie of the piece. His dimness of the night sky represent the turbulent quest to overcome his current illness, along with the village being painted with dark colors that really give it depth in comparison with the vibrant stars and crescent moon. These two work together to portray a darkness with depth and the provide the viewer with a sense of comfort with the brightly lit windows in the village homes as well. The village located to the bottom middle and right is a peaceful sight compared to the dark and harsh night sky, the silence and somberness can almost be felt through this piece. The composition of the steeple located in a mass of depth, which provides a sense of isolation and size then dominating the village providing a sense of seclusion of the town. To the left foreground of this piece a curvy cypress tree represents mourning with the fluid brush strokes that enhance the fluidity of the painting, this provides an ease to the viewers eyes. The composition of this painting was well articulated by keeping the audience s attention, to keep the audience eye moving from the vibrance of the stars to the darkness of the town, to the lighter mint cypress tree and the dark mass. Recoverability is the DBA #8217;s most important concern. Recoverability, also sometimes called disaster recovery, takes two primary forms. First the backup, then recovery tests. The backup of the database consists of data with timestamps combined with database logs to change the data to be consistent to a particular moment in time. It is possible to make a backup of the database containing only data without timestamps or logs, but the DBA must take the database offline to do such a backup. The recovery tests of the database consist of restoring the data, then applying logs against that data to bring the database backup to consistency at a particular point in time up to the last transaction in the logs. Alternatively, an offline database backup can be restored simply by placing the data in place on another copy of the database. If a DBA (or any administrator) attempts to implement a recoverability plan without the recovery tests, there is no guarantee that the backups are at all valid. In practice, in all but the most mature RDBMS packages, backups rarely are valid without extensive testing to be sure that no bugs or human error have corrupted the backups. 2.5Integrity Integrity means that the database, or the programs that create its content, embody ... I ducked as quickly as I could and turned around and swung my scythe piercing one the man. I wanted to say not so funny is it, but before I could the next two came at me. Both had long axes, which is also two handed. They were going to swing from both sides and pierce me, which honestly is a very risky move. Due to ducking, if I would duck they would hit each other. • 36. The Mysterious LSD Essay Since the 1930 s lysergic acid diethylamide, also known as the hallucinogen LSD, has been a topic of controversy and mystery. The components of LSD are lysergic acid and diethylamide. As part of the ergoline family, LSD is often classified as a synthetic drug because it is produced only in a laboratory (Petechuk 10). Users of LSD are people from solid middle and upper class backgrounds. They have many opportunities to pursue higher education and to have successful careers (Petechuk 9). To most, this statistic would seem unusual, but LSD is notorious for giving keen insights to life, which is the main interest for its atypical consumers. After some two hours this condition faded away. (quoted in Petechuk 13) Three days later, Hofmann decided to test out his research again. He took 0.25 milligrams of LSD, this time on purpose. This is a very small dose in comparison to the dosages required for other drugs. After taking the LSD, Hofmann experienced unusual sensory experiences, not all of them were pleasant. Between the second World War, when Dr. Albert Hofmann accidentally got high with his invention of LSD, and in the late 60s there were thousands of studies conducted by medical and psychiatric researchers looking into the therapeutic benefits of psychedelic drugs (Antonia). Similar to her gravestone inscription, however, Helen rises again, her influence extending farther than those of her childhood exploits. The older orphan s unique opinions toward feminism, power dynamics, and most importantly, religion, live on through Jane Eyre, forming a parallel legacy to compare all of Jane s decisions to. Through exploring Jane s religious transformation in context to Helen, Eyre is revealed as less egalitarian and rather elitist, one who strives for power and domination rather than feminist equality. To understand Jane s metamorphosis, however, one must first contextualize both Helen s and Jane s original viewpoints. Upon entering the Lowell school, Jane suffers from a persistent insecurity. Scarred from her lack of love in Reed house, Jane binds her happiness to the opinion of others, childishly announcing, I would rather die than live I cannot bear to be solitary and hated (BronteМ€ 8). In turn, Helen sagely responds, You think too much of the love of human beings... the sovereign hand... has provided you with other resources than your feeble self... Why, then, should we ever sink overwhelmed with distress, when... death is so certain an entrance to happiness? (BronteМ€ 8). • 39. Chuck Berry An Eccentric, African American Rock N ... In the winter of 1957, Chuck Berry an eccentric, African American rock n roller from St. Louis recorded one of his most popular and influential songs: Johnny B. Goode (Taylor 27). During a time when Jim Crow laws still had a place in American life and active racism towards African Americans and minorities was commonplace, Chuck Berry s hit Johnny B. Goodebecame popular amongst a white audience, and it reached the number eight position on the Billboard List in 1958 (Cooper 301). The rollicking song told a rags to riches story of a country boy named Johnny B. Goode who could play the guitar just like a ringin a bell (Starr and Waterman 259). The character Johnny B. Goode was not a one song wonder his tale was continued in two additional Berry hits: Bye Bye Johnny (1960) and Go Go Go (1961) (Taylor 28 29). The saga of Johnny B. Goode was greatly shaped by the times during which it was popularized in, and it influenced the times as well. The timeless hit was successful and influential for various reasons: the emergence and popularity of rock n roll in the 1950s, the catchy lyrics and instrumentation used in the song, the genius of Chuck Berry himself, and racial tensions in the United States and the way they impacted, and were impacted by, music. In order to understand the significance and impact of the song, all of these factors must be explored. The emergence of rock n roll music in the 1950s swept away the youth of America. John Steinbeck s short story discusses the life of Elisa Allen, an advocate for gardening with an internal want for a more fulfilling life. The chrysanthemum is an ironic flower to use in this story because the chrysanthemum is a symbol of optimism and joy, which is lacking in Elisa s life. The chrysanthemums symbolize Elisa s life and how society has forbidden her to be anything other than a housewife or something within the boundaries of her home. When Elisa offers the Tinker her chrysanthemums, she was also offering herself because she saw herself as one with her flowers. When the tinker tosses her flowers on the road this mimics the way he rejects her and the way society has rejected women. The flowers, just like women, are seen as merely decorations, not something that can be daring. The chrysanthemums like women are golden, but golden only in regards to looks, nothing more. When Elisa tells the Tinker she can fix pots and would love to live the life that he had, he says It ain t the right kind of a life for a woman. Women are supposed to be housewives and mothers. Even though Elisa wants a more thrilling life, she follows in the footsteps of a traditional housewife. She laid out her husband s clothes and ran his bath water because she knows that is her place, even if she disagrees with it. The Salinas tie themselves to the theme because they limit the potential of Elisa s life just as society does. The valley keeps Elisa within the confinement of her quaint life. The first toy was a rectangular box that has shaped holes on the lid. On the lid, there are four shapes triangle, square, star, and circle.
