Let s presume the constant value is (X), and the amount of fuel that the vehicle have is (Y), we
can know the distance (D) according to this equation D = Y * X Can be implemented in code as
follows public double getDistance(double fuel){ double distance = fuel * 10.6382978723; return

fuel amount is by litters, and the distance in Kilometers. Java Option Panes Another useful class
for accepting user input, and displaying results, is the JOptionPane class. This is located in the

thing to do is to reference the library we want to use: import javax.swing.JOptionPane; This tells
java that we want to use the JOptionPane class, located in the javax.swing library. After getting all

Explain the Impact of Organisational Policies on the Troubleshooting and Repair Process (P1)
Referring to the policies related to the College s network. Produce an audio recording for the
Network manager to explain the impact of their organisational policies on the troubleshooting and
repair process. Introduction In this documents, I am going to be explaining the impact of
organisational policies on the troubleshooting and repair process, I am going to be talking about the
organisational policies, such as considerations e.g. security, costs, systems downtime, disruption,
resource allocation, prioritisation, contractual requirements, trend analysis, escalation procedures,
documentation, reporting, contractual legal issues.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Resources should be well balanced so if the resources are not needed they shouldn t been used.
Prioritisation The company should prioritize some of the aspect when performing repair as they
might be more important and they should be repaired first. For example if network is down and
at the same time printer is not working. The person that perform repair should concentrate on
repairing network instead of printer as without network printer would be useless. Contractual
Requirements In a company, the support team staff would be required to work shifts that will
provide coverage for the employees when the offices are officially opened, they will also need
to provide extra time in the evening and weekends, where they will carry out the essential
maintenance which may have to involve some downtime. The hours that an employee will have
to work will be set out for them in what is called an employment contract. They will be limited
by the EU legislation and some other regulations such as working time regulations, which will
provide the basic right and protections such as: A worker can be required to work at most an
average of 48 hours a week (though workers can choose to work more if they want to). For night
workers there is a limit of an average of 8 hours worked in 24. Night workers are entitled to receive
free health assessments. All staff are entitled to 11 hours of rest a day and to one day off each

Analysis Of Hearts In Atlantis
The novella Hearts and the four stories together signify a shift from an age of innocence when
three friends from a Connecticut neighborhood enjoyed a simple childhood, free of violence,
heartbreak, and protest through a ferocious era of change during the Vietnam War, and the pains of
growing up, to a period where Carol, Sully John and Willie try to live their lives with the mistakes
they ve made and with the heavy burden of looking back at the war and those lives and events that
have impacted their own. Further, it describes a story that symbolizes King s assertion that his
generation had the chance to change the world, but the turbulent years during the VietnamWar
destroyed that hope, and those in his generation either sold out their values and conformed or were
destroyed by alcohol, drugs or disease.
Hearts in Atlantis is unique in that although there are five different stories it is less about
following each of those stories individually but rather following the characters through each story
noting what year it is in their life. First, Carol is a main character in both Low Men and Hearts,
and in the final story Heavenly Shades (and a supporting character in Blind Willie and Why We re
in Vietnam). In Low Men, she is a young girl growing up in fictional Harwich, Connecticut (suburb
of Bridgeport) with her neighborhood friends Bobby and Sully John. She is more perceptive than
the boys, at first not trusting of Ted Brautigan, thinking that he is running from something. It

Diagnosis Of A Stages Of Wound Healing
The following is presented as a patient for this particular case study: an 89 year old male with a
stage III decubitus ulcer on his coccyx being transferred to a long term care facility. The physician
has asked that the patient and wife be educated about wound healing. Secondary intention healing
will be applied with negative pressure wound healingto advance the ulcer to a level of healing with
the knowledge that the diagnosis of a stage III ulcer cannot be reversed to a lesser stage. Three
factors that will be discussed to avoid will be lying on the affected area, moisture to the area, and
factors that contribute to infection. Included in the teaching will be the importance of proper
nutrition, such as increasing protein intake... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pressure ulcers are classified from stage I through IV depending on the depth and damage to the
tissue, there are also unstageable and deep tissue injuries (McCance Huether, 2014).
The patient has been identified with a stage III pressure ulcer which means there is full thickness
skin loss involving damage or necrosis of subcutaneous tissue that may extend to, but not through,
underlying fascia (McCance Huether, 2014, p 1625). The goal of treatment will be to stop the
progression to a stage IV ulcer and heal the current stage III pressure ulcer while minimizing pain
and infection.
Wound Healing
Harper, Young, and McNaught, (2014) explain the four distinct phases of wound healing that are
identified as hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation and tissue remodeling. Hemostasis is the body
s response to prevent exsanguinations; thusly, the cascading response to injury causes constriction
of blood vessels but if continued, leads to tissue hypoxia and acidosis. The next stage of healing is
inflammation. This stage is a result of cells that inhibit and prevent infection and once the resulting
threat of infection is gone, inflammation will subside. Prolonged inflammation can lead to chronic
wound formation. The next stage of healing is proliferation which consists of angiogenesis,
formation of granulation tissue, collagen deposition, epitheliazation and wound retraction. It is
during this stage the extracellular matrix is laid down forming

12 Monkeys Anthropology
12 Monkeys is a 1995 film directed by Terry Gilliam in 1995. It is a science fiction film dealing
with time travel. Time travel stories have been used in different films and other art media, but 12
Monkeys treats time travel in an unusual way. It is reasonable to say that 12 Monkeys does not
have a very clear narrative like other classic Hollywood films do. And this messiness is mostly
caused by how the filmitself deals with time travel and how it presents it to viewers. 12 Monkeys
creates an uncertainty of time travel. This sort of uncertainty does make the narrative less
comprehensible, however, it is this uncertainty that attracts the audience.
The story of 12 Monkeys itself is not very hard to understand. The story happens in 2035. Because

Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus
Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases. The body is unable to produce or absorb
sufficient amounts of insulin. This causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood. The pancreas
normally produces insulin which regulates the level of glucose in the blood as 1)well as how it s
used. Glucose is vital to your health because it s an important source of energy for the cells that
make up your muscles and tissues. It s also your brain s main source of fuel (mayoclinic.org/ 2014).
The endocrine pancreas is filled with the islets of Langerhan. These islets, or regions of the
pancreas, are clusters of cells, which each islet containing 3,000 to 4,000 cells. Scientists estimate

However, the dysfunction here is in the cells that are receiving the message from the insulin (Dr.
Andrew Wolf, You Tube Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus
). As stated by Dr. Wolf, the most
current theory is that those persons having high levels of fatty acids circulating in their blood
causes a high level of inflammatory cytokines hormones in the blood. These block or interfere
with this messenger system. Thus, glucose cannot get into the cell. The result is a high blood
glucose level which stimulates the beta cells to make more insulin. However, as the problem
continues, extra insulin is produced by the overworked beta cells over time and some of these
cells are destroyed. You then have Type 2 Diabetes. If this condition isn t corrected by diet and
lifestyle changes, the disease will get worse. Higher and higher levels of glucose will eventually
kill off all the beta cells and you will now have a Type 2 Diabetic who is insulin dependent. If
there is a persistent consumption of glucose and hyper processed foods, our cells change by
reducing the number of receptors on their surfaces to respond to insulin (Perlmutter,2013).
Perlmutter(2013) notes that there is cell desensitization to insulin which causes a condition called
insulin resistances. Then the cells can ignore the insulin and there is a failure to retrieve glucose
from the blood. More and more insulin is now pumped out by the pancreas so that much higher
levels become

Touching The Void By Joe Simpson
Throughout the novel, Touching the Void, the author, Joe Simpson, describes his perilous journey
through the Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes. It is through the two key turning points in the
story that humanity s greatest struggles, fears, and revelations can be discovered through how Joe
and Simon react in their varying situations.
In the beginning, two mountaineers, Joe and Simon, venture upon the Siula Grande. After reaching
the summit relatively quickly, they begin their descent without much, if any, hesitation. In fact, the
top of the mountain, which is the greatest spectacle of the climb, isn t seen as jaw dropping by the
protagonists as we think it d be. As Joe puts it, we took customary summit photos and ate some
chocolate. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be applied to any emotion in humans, including the lack of accomplishment in Joe and
Simon. They need to experience the fall to appreciate the climb. Saying that, does this mean that
humans are destined to fail? Afterall, it s the only way we can learn from our mistakes and
become more complex individuals. Perhaps this means that humanity can never be perfect. Maybe
flaws are supposed to happen. Because, if we d never make mistakes, there wouldn t be any
progress; and we wouldn t have any emotional range due to things always being so perfect. So,
without flaws, would we still be human?
Stuck in the middle of a blizzard, Simon has to lower Joe, who s broken his leg, down the
mountain with a waist attached rope. This goes well until Joe slips off the cliff face and is left
hanging in midair, off the mountain. However, Simon just thinks it s just taking him a long time
to make his way down; it s much different than that. As Joe puts it, there was at least 100 feet of
air below my feet! For hours, Joe tries his best to climb back up the rope using a Prusik knot. But
Simon has just about run out of patience. So, in a sudden move, he cuts the rope, causing Joe to
plummet to his doom. This can show a lot about how humans react to things. Despite Simon not
knowing Joe s situation, he willingly cuts the rope without further investigation. He didn t know
whether Joe s leg was just stuck, or whether he might ve just had another injury. Either way, he

Bronze Ceiling
Will women ever break the bronze ceiling? by Maya Rhodan is an article in the September 4,
2017 edition of Time magazine. It is about how the U.S. is trying to change the fact that there is a
very small amount of statues of real, historical women in the United States. The article later talks
about the protest for the removal of the Robert E. Lee statue in Charlottesville, va and how many
places in the U.S. took down Confederate memorials. It says in response to this protest Now a
parallel movement is growing to boost representations of people who have been left out (Rhodan

I enjoyed reading it, and it was very interesting to me. I agree with the author when she says the
United States needs more statues of females in our cities and towns. Women were important in
history, too! I also think it was well stated when she mentioned that as a country, we should be
sending a message that women played a major role in our nation s history. They are of equal
importance. I can tell in this article that the author is trying to evoke a sense of emotion, patriotism,
and feminism in their readers to get them to agree with her point. It was quite effective, and I do
agree with the author after reading this article. I could tell the author was passionate about the
subject of the article, and the tone of the piece reflected it. I know the author was for this change
because she wrote positively about this movement. I think the author adequately supports her
claims that women need more representation in the U.S. by stating the facts. She gave numbers and
percentages of the actual numbers of statues of historical women in places around the country to
prove that women really aren t represented in the U.S. The author s source is credible regarding the
information for the movement itself, because she got her information from one of the women
heading up this movement, Kanishka

A Separate Peace Rhetorical Analysis
Paul uses many tactics throughout his imprisonment in order to keep some control over his and
Annie s alliance. One effective method he uses is flattery, complimenting Annie in order to keep
her happy and her mood stable. His use of this move is demonstrated on page 60 in the novel,
when he calls Annie his favorite nurse. He uses it again on page 107, telling Annie that she could
not be old enough to remember the chapter plays, hinting at how she looks way younger than she
actually is. Paul uses this strategy to lighten Annie s mood and keep her happy, which is vital to
him because Annie can become very destructive and impatient when angry, consequently being the
main source of Paul s pain throughout the book. In addition to flattery, Paul

The Environmental Impact Of The Environmental Movement...
Environmental Movement Report
Before the 1960s, environmentalism mainly focused on conservation of resources and the
wilderness and was apparent through Theodore Roosevelt s creation of five National Parks, one
hundred fifty National Forests and about two hundred thirty acres of land set aside for
conservation. In the 1960s, the environmental movement was really able to garner support as it was
during many other movements such as Civil Rights, Peace, and Women s. Many consider the spark
for environmentalism to be Rachel Carson s Silent Spring (1962), which exposed the harmful
effects of pollutants such as DDT on the environment and the public. While minute amounts of
DDT cause little to no harm to the organisms that are affected, as DDT moves up the food chain, it
becomes more and more concentrated. A generally accepted value is that for each level up in the
food chain, the concentration of pollutants increases by a thousand times. The effects of Silent
Spring cannot be overestimated. As people began to become more informed about pollution, more
people demanded that the federal government take action. The environmental movement then grew
to encompass global warming, clean air, energy, the ozone layer, and also pollution. These
concerns were vocalized in the very first Earth Day that occurred on April 22, 1970 and was
established by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson. A group of twenty million Americans, all
coming from vastly different backgrounds, celebrated the holiday

How Is Managing Climate Change, Changes America s Health
How is Managing Climate change, Changes America s Health
Fady Estany
Tennessee State University
What is Climate Change?
Climate change is a change of environment patterns. In specific the change was obvious from the
mid to late 20th century. The reason of the dramatic change was due to large increased levels of
atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. We as people can barely or see no
change at all. But the truth is that our Earth is warming little by little. Minor changes in the average
temperature of the earth can transform to massive and possibly dangerous shifts in climate and
weather. Global temperatures have been on the rise, Earth average temperature has by 1.4
Fahrenheit over the past 100 years, and temperature is projected to increase 2 to 11.5 Fahrenheit
over the next century. Again as we can see the evidence of climate changes such as increasing of
temperatures, changes in precipitation, consequence in more floods, ice glaciers are melting, and
oceans are warming. ( United States Environmental Protection Agency, 2014) As those changes take
place in our Earth, it becomes more challenging for us humans, and creatures around the planet. So
as we understand, the managing of climate change is important, because it will create awareness on
the role of science, as well the role of humans, the effects of climate change, and the adaptation of
climate change.

A Theological Perspective of the Clash of Civilizations...
Introduction
On more than one occasion, President George W. Bush has described the terrorist attacks of
September 11, 2001, as fostering a monumental battle of good versus evil. In this battle, there has
been no doubt in his mind (or in ours) regarding who is on the side of good and who is on the
side of evil. Though some have winced at the President s use of such absolute moral terms to
portray the tragic events of that fateful day, others have applauded his courageous use of such
unfashionable discourse as entirely appropriate, even suggesting that it implies the demise of the
cultural scourge of postmodern moral relativism.
Another important way, not entirely unrelated, of interpreting what transpired on 9/11 is to explain

According to the editors of Foreign Affairs, Huntington s article generated more response over a
three year period than any other article they had published since the 1940s. Given the interest in,
as well as the controversy over and misrepresentation of his article, Huntington decided that the
prudent thing to do would be to expand it into a book length treatment in which he would explore
more deeply and document more thoroughly the thesis he propounded in his article. So the
outcome was a 1996 book titled The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of the World Order.4
In this work conceived as an interpretation of the evolution of global politics after the Cold War,
Huntington aspires, as he says, to present a framework, a paradigm, for viewing global politics that
will be meaningful to scholars and useful to policymakers. 5 Its central theme is virtually identical
to that of his article, namely that culture and cultural identities, which at Huntington is the Albert J.

Frederick Douglass was an African American abolitionist, a writer and a social reformer. However,
as famous as he became, he was born into slavery in 1818 in Talbot County, Maryland; it was there

In the first section, Frederick Douglas recounts the origin of his reading education, which is very

Durkheim Sacred
Since the beginning of Humanity, Man has been trying to make sense of the world around itself,
trying to fill in the pieces to questions it does not know the answer to. The human journey can be
seen as a quest a search for knowledge, comfort and ultimately for understanding. Perhaps the
greatest of humanities question have involved faith and the notion of a divine god/being. Beliefs
about god have traveled a long road to today s understanding of the notion of God, the divine and
sacred. God as a work in progress began first with the many gods of the polytheistic faith systems,
with each god having limited domain of power and responsibility. For early human beings, such
gods felt familiar and relatable. They didn t see a big gulf between the... Show more content on

In Durkheim s theory of Religion, both these concepts are the central tenant. The Sacred ,
according to Durkheim is an ideal, something that transcends everyday existence and is both awe
inspiring as well as fear inducing, and something potentially dangerous as well as extra ordinary.
Sacred in his view refers to things that have been set apart by man as requiring special religious
treatment and veneration. One key point to note is that Sacred can be anything, from the earth to
the moon, a bird, an animal, a rock, a tree to a god. The sacredness comes from a community
marking them as such and once they have been established as a sacred, they are embodied in
religious practices, sentiments and beliefs. The profane, on the other hand is anything that is
simply ordinary, it embraces practices, persons and ideas that are in the end seen with everyday
mundane attitudes of familiarity, utility and commonness. Both the sacred and profane are highly

Definition Of Binary Expression Systems For Regulating...
(1C) Beyond spatial control, how can you use binary expression systems to achieve greater
temporal resolution in regulating gene expression? 1.Stereotaxic Cre delivery (via AAV) to animal
which has floxed sites can allow the researcher to determine the onset of Cre lox system activation.
This is advantageous because knockout can be induced in an adult animal and developmental
compensation or early embryonic fatality due to gene disruption could be avoided. This method is
irreversible
2.Cre gene can be fused to the gene encoding estrogen receptor(ER). ER translocates to the nucleus
after binding to ligand and because Cre is fused to ER, Cre only translocated to the nucleus in
presence of ER ligand (tamoxifen). Therefore, the time of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

4.In Gal/UAS/Gal80 system, transgene expression can be regulated by temperature change. This
system, like Tet off/Tet on is also reversible. Gal4 expression is driven by cell specific promoter.
Gal4 activates UAS which controls the transgene expression. The transgene will only express in
cells defined by the promoter regulating Gal4.Gal80, which is active at 19C and inactive at 30C,
binds and inhibits Gal4. Therefore, transgene expression can be turned on and off by changing the
temperature of the animal. (Carter and Shieh 2009)
Question 2
(2A) Discuss how you would molecularly clone this gene into a vector by traditional recombinant
DNA cloning methods, PCR cloning, or recombineering / synthetic DNA approaches.
If I determined the sequence of my gene, I can use PCR to amplify it and then clone the resulting
DNA into a vector.
1.PCR the gene of interest
a.I will assume that my gene is not surrounded by restriction sites. The forward and reverse
primers flanking the sequence of my gene would need to be designed. Add restriction sites at the 5
and 3 ends for easy cloning of DNA into the vector (look at the restriction sites present in the vector
and the storage plasmid and tack those at the beginning of the primer).
b.Isolate genomic DNA from WT animal (want WT version of the gene) to be used as a template

Benefits Of A Fatigue Management Program Essay
Our company has operated as the leader in our industry for a long time. We have since fallen
behind in regards to our competitors in that, we have not implemented a fatigue management
program. The proposed program will operate at a significant loss ($1.5 million in the first year)
with an annual drop in costof 10 12%. The cost of the program past year five will be $900,000.
With that being said, the possibility of lowering our liability in terms of potential incidents in the
future significantly outweighs the associated costsof our program. Overall, pilots and supervisors
have a positive outlook on the implementation of a fatigue management program. In addition to
pilots not being fatigued while on duty, when the research team spoke with our partner airlines, one
of the airlines showed data that demonstrated a 10 15% rise in productivity. Therefore, the
following recommendations are presented to the board:
1.Implement the fatigue management program as soon as possible. The potential gains and
liability decrease significantly outweigh the initial financial burden incurred by our airline.
2.Continue to communicate with our partner airlines, as they will provide essential information
pertaining to the implementation of the program.
3.Clear all proposed changes and introductions with the FAA, as they do have the final say in all
facets of operation regarding safety.
4.Consult with supervisors around our domestic hubs to determine the best way to implement the
program.

Treatment includes forms of therapy like psychotherapy and drugs depending on the severity of
depression. Family and friends are important in recovery of depressed individuals by offering
support needed to follow prescriptions and support during recovery. Depressive disorders are
diverse, but they all affect the wellbeing of individuals in relation to their work, social relations,
and education needs (NIH, 2015).
Depressive Disorder
Concept
Every once in a while an individual experiences sadness and blue moods however they pass after
some time and the person resumes their life. Depressive disorders are characterized by sadness
and loss of interest in things that were once pleasurable (APA, 2013). In contrast to a mood that
goes away a person suffering from depressive disorders experience persistent episodes of
sadness. Depressive disorders in contrast to a bad mood affect the mental and physical
functioning of a person and cause deterioration in those functions. Depressive disorders change
the thinking, feelings and behavior of the affected person and they can become a threat to
themselves and others (Olfson et al. 2005). People snap out of bad moods, but individuals
suffering from depressive disorders are sick and need medical attention. Depressive disorders are
common, and they vary from individual to individual in symptoms and behavior. The symptoms
will vary among males, females, young, elderly and even children. Depressive disorders are

Chemical Synapse
The chemical synapse allows for the communication between 2 nerve cells when an AP reaches the
end of the axon and the signal subsequently modulates a postsynaptic membrane potential. This
occurs at neuronal connection points the synapses. These consist of the axon terminals belonging
to the sender cell (presynaptic neuron) and the dendritic spine heads of the receiver cell
(postsynaptic neuron). Between them lies the synaptic cleft. At the chemical synapse, the electrical
signal (AP) is converted into a chemical signal, in order to cross this synaptic divide. The
extracellular fluid therein poses a physical obstacle for the AP that is, unless it manages to
temporarily morph into a chemical courier (neurotransmitter). Thereafter, postsynaptic ion channels
(re)turn the latter (in)to its electrical form. To switch the chemical signal off, the neurotransmitter is
removed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This triggers a fusion of small vesicles (neurotransmitter containers) with the presynaptic
membrane. The vesicles burst and release the neurotransmitter into the synaptic cleft (exocytosis),
where it travels towards and docks at its specific receptor on the postsynaptic membrane. These
receptors are directly connected to an ion channel, which thereupon opens (lock key principle). A
Na/K channel, for example, initiates a high influx of Na+ and a slight efflux of K+ ions at the
postsynaptic membrane. The latter then depolarizes and generates an AP an electrical signal
passed on along a postsynaptic dendrite. But some neurotransmitter like GABA, for example, will
not trigger a postsynaptic depolarization (Dnalc.org, n.d.). When GABA docks at its receptors, K
/Cl channels open. K+ ions flow out of, while Cl ions enter the cell. Thus, the negative charge
inside the cell increases and the membrane is hyperpolarized. An inhibitory postsynaptic potential is
triggered and an AP

Chemiluminescence Lab Report
Chemiluminescence is a reaction well known to those who enjoy crime scene shows. Luminol is
first synthesized in the experiment. Then, the crude luminol produced is oxidized to release
photons giving off a light blue glow in a dark room. In a crime scene show, the blood acts as a
catalyst aiding in the oxidation of luminol and hydrogen peroxide resulting in the blue glow 1.
Introduction:
As seen on any crime scene investigation show, such as CSI Miami, traces of cleaned up blood
left behind can been seen with the spray of a chemical called luminol. When applied on an area, it
lights up where blood has been due to a chemical reaction. Chemiluminescence it is also found in
the insect called fireflies 2. The reaction uses ATP as an energysource ... Show more content on

If the amounts of luminol produced would be much less if the amounts of NaOH and acetic acid
were changed. This is due to less acetic acid being able to form the precipitate or the crude luminol.
3.In the luminol synthesis reaction, why was cold water used for rinsing the filtration step? How
would the efficiency of the filtration be affected by hot water used instead?
Cold water was used because it does not dissolve solids as readily as hot water does. Using hot
water in the filtration step would result in some of the crude luminol being dissolved. This would
be less efficient since product is being removed and would give less of a product yield.
4.When isolating the solid through precipitate and vacuum filtration, why was the solid not rinsed
with a solvent like ethyl acetate or dichloromethane?
Water is used because it is not an organic solvent. Ethyl acetate and dichloromethane are both
organic solvents and would dissolve the crude luminol product. This like adding hot water would
reduce the yield of the product and reduce efficiency.
5.What is the difference between chemiluminescence and fluorescence? Where does the energy for
light emissions come from in each

Analysis Of The Poem Mark Strand

AP Literature

Mark Strand
Mark Strand once said, For some of us, the less said about the way we do things the better.
(Strand). In this he might have been referring to his poems. He wrote straightforward surrealistic
poems about the nature of life with ambiguous speakers. It is common to see in his poems a story
being told without actually telling one. In this way there is a sense of who the speaker is, who the
poet is, and a peculiar train of thought expressed with very precise words.
Mark Strand was greatly influenced by his time period. The influence of surrealism, a popular
form of art in the twentieth century, is prevalent throughout his poems. Mark Strand states in his
poet laureate interview that he wished to be like the other poets of his time. He was influenced
by Wallace Stevens and Lorca when he was a college student at Yale. In college, he started as an
artist and ended as a poet (Nordhaus). His poem, Eating Poetry expresses his love for poetry in a
curious way, I have been eating poetry (3). To help bring to light his own personal feelings, he
uses surrealistic imagery. He enjoys poetry to an extent that words cannot express, but he does the
impossible with this poem when he expresses his enjoyment through the consumption of poetry.

For my presentation I chose to observe, The Flying Dutchmen, a German opera, with music
composed by Richard Wagner. This opera was in German with American subtitles displayed above
the screen. The Flying Dutchmen, incorporated a large cast of characters that played significant
roles through the performance. The opera told the story of a Captain whose ship was caught in an
icy storm that pushed his ship off course. The captain dropped his anchor and decided to wait out
the storm. After the captain and the other sailors take retire for the evening, a ship locks itself to
theirs. The captain of the new ship called the Flying Dutchman; The mysterious man divulges that
an angel once delivered him instructions of his salvation, so that once every seven years, if he is

I understand how difficult it is not to portray certain elements in a opera that were meant to be
conveyed through story. Things like the ocean were portrayed on a projection screen and the
shore of the captains home was also the same as the the setting for the ship. This for me, made it
a little harder to interpret what was going on from act to act. I did enjoy the music performance,
but I felt that the performance took what would have happened in two short conversations and
turned it into a three hour opera. I don t think it is fair to assume that this opera represents all
operas, and I believe I will attend another opera potentially in English so I do not feel that I am
watching a teleprompter for the majority of the performance instead of absorbing the

Motor Execution Paper
Motor Execution
The production of speech demands coordination of laryngeal, respiratory, and orofacial muscles
(Simonyan Horwitz, 2011), and once the brain has the framework and layout for what it wants to
produce vocally, it can begin to implement its plan. In order to do this, it must leave the cerebrum
and begin its journey down the spinal cord, the secondary part of the central nervous system. The
journey begins in the motor cortices.
Once the signal has been organized, it leaves Broca s area and makes its way towards the motor
cortices in the frontal lobe, which include the precentral gyrus (or the primary motor cortex), the
premotor cortex, and the supplementary motor area (Ferrand, 2014). The primary motor cortex
controls, directs, and coordinates contralateral voluntary movements of skeletal muscles, including
the muscles that take part in speech production (Ferrand, 2014). The neurons on the primary motor
cortex (as well as the somatosensory cortex) are organized on a homunculus, or a map with all
areas of the body represented. It contains areas specific to the face and neck lower down on the
homunculus, with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

IX), the vagus nerve (CN X), the accessory nerve (CN XI), and the hypoglossal nerve (CN XII);
all receive input from fibers and forward the message to various muscles in the body. From this
point forward, information is transmitted to and from the central nervous system by way of the
cranial nerve endings and axons, and activation of the muscles of respiration, phonation, resonation
and articulation occurs (Ferrand,

How Did Martin Luther King Jr And The American Dream
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Civil War was definitely not America s finest hour. From other
places in the world, we might have looked foolish, fighting against each other. In our perspective,
it was not foolish. We fought brother against brother, friend against friend, Father against son.
War was the only topic on our minds. But for what? The right to keep our laziness, against the
right of freedom, already established years and years ago? Thousands upon thousands of lives
lost, because we were too good to do our own housework? We fought as a union for the millions
of lives lost before us, who were captured, put in chains, and forced to be treated like animals.
Racism was wild among the states, even after the most awful war in American history... Show more

King s story is one that America will never forget. His speeches were powerful. Enough so that
he moved a whole country. Forget mountains, this man was so amazing that he was able to move
millions of people s hearts. That is an incredible feat, and one that will go down in history as the
day America realized that all men ARE created equal. He united thousands upon thousands of
people by showing that he wasn t going to give up his freedom. He taught them peace and how
to work together to accomplish great things. We all have a role of living out the dream of Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr., whether in our home, school, or community. As Dr. King once said,
Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend. (wikipedia.com) Dr. King
knew that if we only showed kindness and love to everyone, there will be no hate and injustice.
We may not know it, but we can play a big part in fulfilling his dream. If you look around today,
you can see that racism is not completely dead. Although it has sufficiently died down, I don t
think racism will be completely gone for a long time and I am sure many others do too. But we
can do our part, by simply not judging others on how they look, their wealth, or their heritage,
but by who they really are on the inside. Dr. King also taught that we should not be putting
people in groups, again because of how they look, their wealth, or their heritage. We should not
be the one to decide what they will do, where they will go, and what they will say. No one has
the power to completely take control over someone s thoughts, their words, or their actions. And
if you can t completely control them, what s the point in trying? Sadly, Dr. King has not lived to
see his dream become reality. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968. He
was fatally shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 39, by James Earl Ray.
Dr. King was on his way to dinner when a bullet struck him in the cheek. Instantly,

The Rights Opportunity Commission ( Eeoc )
The issue of discrimination is very widely discussed, so widely that laws and statutes have been
enacted and are continually addressed every day. This may occur in a courtroom, on the legislative
floor or at the employer s offices, but the fact that the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
(EEOC) receives around 80,000 discriminatory filings annually, with 99,922 in 2010, there is little
wonder the amount of attention to discriminationis warranted (Walsh, 2013). According to the
EEOC s website, the discrimination claims were more than the annual averages, but less than
99,000 in 2010, at 88,788 in 2014 ( EEOC Releases Fiscal , 2015). These figures reiterate the
importance and diligence in which discriminatory acts must be handled by all parties involved.
The discussion for the complete section relates to an age discrimination case where a 53 year old
director continually observed administration admonishing its inability to hire young staff workers,
to the point the director was relieved of her duties after she claimed administration wanted her to
fire older staff but she refused and once dismissed, the director was on medical leave and told to
report daily, when she failed to do so, the administrators used that action as the reason for
termination (Walsh, 2013). Discrimination comes down to the legality of actions and not the
fairness of public opinion. Even with the need for an employee having the burden of proof, the
likelihood discrimination in this case

of those equations through finding inequalities that d be plotted. We were able to find all
solutions that would work through a feasible region the intersections of the lines created in the

the best solution ? An accurate response to that would be through an optimal expression. We took
the profit expression and made it equal to a certain profit, $310. After solving, (see visual) the

find further higher profits within the feasible region, giving us the idea that we could estimate the
highest possible profit by taking our line to the last stretching corner of the feasible region.
Although confident with this answer, we chose not to simply rely on the graph. We found the exact
coordinates through solving the equations of the two lines intersecting at the last stretching corner.

America s Bitter Drill Analysis
HMGT 6321 Short Paper Steven Brill s, America s Bitter Pill, finds that there is a common theme
among all factors of healthcare: access is restricted, the cost is unwarranted, and quality is
disproportionate to the costs. Political Politics is influenced by lobbying and the strongest lobbies
are the ones with the most amount of monetary backing. Political policy is influenced by money.
Most often the healthcare industry prioritizes the most expensive treatments, prescriptions, and

How Government Is The Uk To State How Governments Are Formed

How governments are formed
There are no codified rules in the UK to state how government is formed, in theory it is in the
hands of the monarch up until the 19thCentury this was largely a reality. However the monarch no
longer plays any active role in this process. The party that wins a majority of seats in the House of

unpopular poll tax. * She was replaced by John Major who brought back cabinet and collective
decision making. However the cabinet proved to be an obstacle in the way of Major s attempts
to improve our democracy. * Tony Blair 1997 2007 set about restoring personal control. He took
prime ministerial control to new heights. His style of leadership was often described as sofa
politics ; a form of practice of settling issues with individual ministers privately and informally.
Blair s style was also described as presidential; he often spoke on behalf of the nation rather than
the head of government. His total domination of foreign affairs marked Tony Blair as one of the
most dominant PMs. * Gordon Brown 2007 2010 could never dominate as Blair had done; he
had a lack of media and public support and a gap in his legitimacy since he had never faced the
electorate in the general election as a party leader. Commonly described as an unelected PM *
David Cameron 2010 faces domination within a coalition, where he must share power within 2

contains many striking images, is very intense and uses strong metaphors. It is concerned with a
young man who is trying to persuade a young woman to have sex with him by charming and
rushing her into it because he only has one thing on his mind. In the poem he uses three different
arguments, flattery, fear and passion to persuade her to his point of view. In the first section
Andrew Marvell uses flattery, he does this by telling her that if he had all the time in the world he

Pros And Cons Of Violence In Video Games
Ever since the nineteen eighties people, usually politicians and the news media, have been
quick to blame video games for societal woes, saying violence in video games causes violent
behavior and makes people anti social. Some have even argued video games cause racism,
sexism, and cause health problems, but most research that points towards video games being bad
are inconsistent and sometimes contradictory. And yet people still want to restrict and censor
video games, even though they are an art form just like film or paintings or what have you, and
because they are an art form they are a form of media and are protected under the first amendment.
Violent video games do not cause real world violencelike any art form they only mirror the
violence of the real world, and it is contradictory to think that they cause actual violence. Video
games have even been shown to be healthy, they relieve stress and increase hand eye coordination,
and are a positive, non violent form of relieving aggression in a way that does not cause physical
harm to others.
The ESRB video game rating system which was introduced in the nineteen nineties and it is not
legally binding and yet most retailers treat video games as if they were alcohol and tobacco
corrupting the youth. Unlike tobacco and alcohol they do not put toxic chemicals into a person s
body unlike any sort of drug legal or otherwise. While a person can die from lack of physical
activity video games alone cannot kill someone, since video

Time Blocking Method
Utilize the Methodology of Time Blocking
Multitasking has been proven to be ineffective when it comes to efficiency. People think that they
are able to get more done by trying to tackle everything at once, but in reality, you re pulling
yourself in too many directions at once. Eliminate this effect of being pulled like taffy by
developing your own time blocking method. There are a few things that you need to consider when
it comes to creating time blocks for your schedule. As a physician, you probably have already
started using time blocking method as the way to handle patients, but you can put this method to
work for you for your entire schedule.
Determine Your Priorities
The first thing that you need to do is determine what priority level each of your tasks happen to be
at for you. This means that you need to decide what priorities are topping your charts. Then, you re
able to block time out for these particular tasks. You should be able to focus on getting your
number one priority completed without any other distractions. ... Show more content on

It s time to change the way that you think about scheduling your blocks of time. It can be helpful
to start thinking about the events that happen in your day and what you need to accomplish. Try
to schedule your time around the things that are happening in your day, and what tasks are
necessary to handle in a particular day. This will make it easier to block off your time to help you
minimize those distractions that can occur. For instance, if you know that you ll have an important
call or appointment during the day, you ll want to start either far enough in advance that you won t
have to pause what you re doing to take care of that event, or wait until afterwards to schedule this

The Problem And Its Background Essay
CHAPTER 1
The Problem and Its Background
Introduction
Diabetes is a systemic disease caused by a decrease in the secretion of insulin or reduced
sensitivity or responsiveness to insulin by target tissue. (Beale, et al., 2011) The incidence of
diabetes is growing rapidly in the United States and worldwide. An estimated 347 million people
around the world are afflicted with diabetes. (Whalen, et al., 2012) According to World Health
Organization (WHO), Diabetes prevalence among adults over 18 years of age has risen from
4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014. It is the major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke
and limbic amputation. World Health Organization (WHO) projects that diabetes will be the 7th
leading cause of death in 2030. It is a complex and costly disease that can affect nearly every organ
in the body and result in devastating consequences. The leading cause of non traumatic lower
extremity amputations, renal failure, and blindness in working age adults, diabetes is also a major
cause of premature mortality, stroke, cardiovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease, congenital
malformations, perinatal mortality, and disability. (Cefalu, 2000) Insulintherapy and oral
hypoglycemic agents have demonstrated improvement in glycaemic control. However, Insulin
therapy has some disadvantages such as ineffectiveness following oral administration, short shelf
life, of the need for constant refrigeration, and fatal hypoglycaemia, in the event of excess dosage.

Tell Tale Heart Dark Romanticism Essay
An Evolution of Dark Romanticism The Tell Tale Heart
Dark Romanticism illustrates the subgenre of Romanticism and it often explores man s capacity
for malevolence. Edgar Allen Poe is one the writers of Dark Romanticism and in his story, The Tell
Tale heart , he explores humanity s propensity to commit sin. The story is based on the concept of
sin and apathy, as the narrator tries to convince the reader that he is nervous, not mad. Dark
Romanticism consists in showing man s malevolent nature and engages with the concept of man s
darkness. Therefore, in the The Tell Tale Heart, the narrator s evil actions demonstrate the story s
inclusion in the genre specific of Dark Romanticism.
The narrator s mysterious illness exemplifies the tenets of Dark Romanticism. Supposedly the
narrator is told that he is mad and he refuses to accept this ; therefore, he tells the story on how he ...

the capacity of the narrator s imagination which makes him creates the old man. It all seems that
nothing that he says happens in real life. For instance, the old man eyes, heartbeat, the night, the
police, and so on, are all fruits of his fantasy. The eyes could represent his psychological sin and
guilt, and the old man depicts his own personality. He wants to get rid of the eyes because it has a
darkness sin which does not allow him to have a good sanity. The narrator separates the old man s
personality to his eye, and in the end, he assumes by getting rid of the eyes he could still love the
man and live in peace with his mental sanity. However, this strategy does not work out well and
turned against him because does not only kill the eyes but also the old

Unique Capabilities Of Modelling Construction Materials
Capdeivila Werning (2011) writes that buildings, including the Kampung house, can open our
understanding of the unique capabilities of modelling construction materials in specific
environments. These houses are not built by commercial architects or designers but by experienced
village master builders, through the soul, the hands and labourers of the community. This allows
each houseto take on a unique personality and character reflecting its inhabitants. The beauty of this
architecture has long been dismissed as accidental, but today we should be able to recognize it as
the result of rare good sense in the handling of practical problems. The shape of the houses,
sometimes transmitted through a hundred generations, seem eternally valid, like those of their
tools (Rudofsky,1964, p4). A popular design detail introduced in the traditional Kampung house is
wood carvingwhich responds to the culture and community. Wood carving is an extremely difficult
and precious talent passed down through generations. However, it is a dying practice and has
become an expensive business only unique to those interested in the preservation of the Kampung
house style and those who appreciate the art. Wood carvings are not only ornamentally aesthetic
but have a lot of sacred meanings as well as being visually attractive in the internal living
environment as shown in Figure 11. The wood carvings along the walls, windows and door frames
often represents stories, depicting different tales

Beowulf and Star Wars Comparison
Deep space and Ancient Warriors A literary symbol is something often an object that stands for a
significant concept or series of ideas often a symbol is emblematic of the values of the
characters. In the narrative Beowulf and the movie Star Wars, many aspects of symbolism are
paralleled. In the movie Star Wars the most important examples are the Death Star, light sabers
and the force. In Beowulf, some of the most important examples of symbolism are Grendel s arm
and head, the dragon s treasure trove Hrothgar s mead hall and Grendel s cave. The mead hall is
both symbolism and a setting in the epic. The building is like a palace that towers high just as a

The Theory Of Democratic Peace
The Theory of Democratic Peace has been a topic of much debate over the years. Why is this?
There are many opinions on this theory and many questions are raised when speaking about it.
The argument that I pose is, is there such a thing as democratic peace? In order to address my
argument and in order to critically analyse Democratic Peace Theory, this piece of academic
writing will look at a variety of causes that some theorists state are behind the Democratic Peace
Theory and will look at the different branches of the theory. Firstly it will look at what ideology
the theory can be drawn from and how the two can link together to prove that democratic peace
can exist. Secondly it will look at if the theory has helped the spreading of... Show more content on

Essentially, this theory makes the assumption that if there is a war between two countries, it
will be between one that is democratic and one that is not. There has been some evidence that
no two democratic countries have ever been to war, if we are talking about war in the sense of
military action (Griffiths et al., 2008). For example, 353 pairs of states engaged in wars between
1816 1991 and none was between two democracies: 155 pairs involved a democracy and a non
democratic country, and 198 involved two non democratic states fighting each other (Griffiths et
al., 2008). A reason for why democratic peace theorists stress that democratic states fight with
only non democratic states is due to the reason that, they may be dangerous because they seek
other ends, such as conquest or plunder (Owen 1994). When did the theory originate?
Democratic Peace Theory, as it came to be known, emerged as a robust research programme in
the post Cold War years (Daddow, 2013). According to Rosato (2003), the theory is probably the
most powerful liberal contribution to the debate on the causes of war and peace (p.585)
Now let s talk about the ideology that the theory can be drawn from and let s see how the
ideology and the theory can be linked together to help prove that some sort of democratic peace
can and does exist. Liberalism, an ideology that focuses mainly on the individual, but has other key
features such

Compare And Contrast The Help And Remember The Titans
How do Boaz Yakin and Tate Taylor depict historical content to develop the theme of racism in
Remember the Titans and The Help in similar and different ways? Introduction Remember the
Titans is a 2000 American sports film directed by Boaz Yakin, set in Alexandria, Virginia. The
film is based on the true story in 1971 of African American coach Herman Boone. Set in the time
during segregation, he tries to integrate a racially divided school football team putting the
fundamentals of footballs great tradition to the test. In contrast The Help is a 2011 American
period drama film, directed by Tate Taylor, based on the best selling novel of the same name,

In Remember the Titans we witness Coach Boone fighting for civil rights, signifying the image of
an outsider integrating into a foreign white team as their coach. Director Boaz Yakin, uses
techniques to strengthen Coach Boone s character where the initial hate and disrespect towards him
succours the development of a meaningful arc. The disrespect and aggression is employed when a
brick is thrown through his house window, threatening him with the derogatory coloured comments
calling him Coach Coon . The pressure of quitting was not felt and heroically he encompasses the
journey with Yakin emphasising Boones evocative discipline and determination forcing integration
amongst the segregated football team. This technique is employed when we witness Coach
Boone stepping up, pushing equality for the players in a determined strike to stop racial abuse for
good. His actions initiate the forced building of friendship and acceptance when he forces both
races to get to know and accept each other at the camp. Yakin heightens the themes of overcoming
racism when Boone rallies the troops together to support their team mate during a sad time.
Instinctively, the implicit segregation is evoked further bringing unity to the team, Coach Boone
emerges as a hero to both the coloured and white community. Similarly, The Help s Aibileen,
initially reluctant, puts her life at risk to tell her stories; as she does she builds up her courage,
feeling compelled to express

The Machinery Of Freedom By David Friedman
In David Friedman s book, The Machinery of Freedom , he argues for anarcho capitalism, the
theory that believes the state should be abolished because it is unnecessary and a free market
should be put into place. Usually, anarcho capitalism is defended from one of two views,
consequentialist or deontologist. Friedman takes the consequentialist side believing that it is
actually more desirable for the market to provide law and protection than the state because it gives
the people choice to choose what they believe and competition will promote improvement.
Deontologists, however, believe that any initiation of force is immoral, so they would prefer a law
banning the initiation of force rather than private protection agencies. Despite... Show more content

A proponent to Friedman s view would support this because consumers have better information
than voters do. It has been seen election after election that politicians will tell the public what
they want to hear in an effort to win, but during their candidacy they will not fulfill their
promises. In an anarcho capitalist society, this wouldn t happen because when people choose
their protection agency they would be able to look at the company s records of how they handle
their other customers emergencies. From this information they would be able to tell how they
would be treated because companies usually follow the same procedures for every customer.
Politicians, on the other hand, often have to face new problems so voters can only make an
educated guess on what they will do next. Also, it is often difficult to know how corrupt a
politician really is behind the scenes. Therefore, the people participate in rational ignorance
because they know their vote alone won t change the result of the election, so they don t bother to
investigate deeply into each politician. Also, in an anarcho capitalist society everybody gets to
choose which laws they follow by picking protection agencies and courts with beliefs that align with
the person (Bill). An opponent to anarcho capitalism may respond

Microfinance Is The Best Option Help People Out Of Poverty
Microfinance is grown to one of the biggest areas in fighting again poverty, it can be discussed, if
microcredits are the best option to help people out of poverty. In the past it was almost
impossible for the poor population of the world to get a loan with acceptable conditions. Banks
would not lend to the poor, because the risk of losing the money was too high for them, which
meant poor people in Africa had no chance of getting a loanfrom big banks. The so called money
lenders would take advantage of this situation, and give the poor an opportunity to receive a loan.
The money lenders were not trying to help the poor, they just wanted to earn money, thinking on
their own personal benefit. That s why their loans have insane conditions with interest payments
of a couple hundred percent. If someone could not pay back the loan in time, they would take
everything from the customers, and maybe even kill them. This was the only opportunity for poor
people to get a loan until microfinance was born. Another problem is, that women have been
excluded from the banking system in general in some regions of the world, because that was
nothing women would do in their culture. In most cultures it was implemented, that women are
staying at home, taking care of the house, children, and food. Men would go to work and earn the
money for the family needed for the cost of living. It would also be more complicated for women
to get a loan, because they traditionally work less than men, and

Rationale For Considering Values And Preferences
How the guideline panels use the information: rationale for considering values and preferences
Values and preferences impact the strength of recommendations, together with other factors. If the
variability exists for patient values, the strength of recommendation is weak, indicating
recommendations may not apply to specific patient subgroup. Guideline readers and clinical
practitioners need to pay special attention to weak recommendations and accompanying values and
preferences under these scenarios.2
The systematic review on utilities suggested major bleeding equivalent to nonfatal pulmonary
embolism; while intracranial bleed overall was 2 to 3 times worse than major bleed or pulmonary
embolism. This relative importance helps guideline panels to weigh the balance of benefits and
risks and make the decision accordingly. 16
Considered as significant factors in producing recommendations, the extent to which the values and
preferences vary and the extent to which the panellists are confident about the estimates and their
variation can influence the strength of the recommendation. If the patient values and preferences
are uncertain, or vary across different patient subgroups, the strength of recommendation should be
weak. Was there any recommendations influenced by local values and preferences
The local values and preferences contributed to the formulating of recommendations. Since there is

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Survey
Disadvantages of using Surveys The significance of the data can become neglected if the
researcher focuses too much on the range of coverage to the exclusion of an adequate account of
the implications of those data for relevant issues, problems, or theories. The data that are
produced are likely to lack details or depth on the topic being investigated. Securing a high
response rate to a survey can be hard to control, particularly when it is carried out by post, but is
also difficult when the survey is carried out face to face or over the telephone. 4.1.4

Advantages of Questionnaire A questionnaire is less expensive; it saves time and financial

Theme Of Corruption In Huck Finn
There is a quote, at the base of the Statue of Liberty that reads; Give me your tired, your poor. Your
huddled masses yearning to breathe free... This quote reflects the feeling of great opportunity many
immigrants felt they would receive upon coming to America. This was also the mentality many
American believed all received through our constitution s promise of; life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness. In Mark Twains novel, Huckleberry Finn, the structure of the main character s
relationship with society is made to show the reader the toxicity of the Reconstruction Era
showing that despite what people believed about the time period after the civil war was a lot like
the period before. Par consequence of Huck Finn s structure, the era twenty five years later
known as the Progressive Era could also be used as a location for a similar novel. The important
aspects of Huck Finn that would go towards any paralleling novel, would be, the elements of a
young child torn between their society and themselves, the themes of racial intolerance, and the
themes of societal corruption. Like Huck Finn, this novel would be read differently by different
people of different descents of the year 1900, and the people of today.
After stating the above, it is important for a discourse on the structure of Huck Finn s character to
take place. Huck Finn is a young boy of about twelve or fourteen, who in addition to feeling a great
sense of isolation, which is because he is caught between the

Essay on Overview of John Demos s Unredeemed Captive
The Unredeemed Captive tells a story of struggles a family went through to stay true to one
another. Eunice Williams was taken captive and family went through many obstacles to try and
get her home. Both Eunice and her family were captured together along with many other town
residents in the Deerfield Massacre of 1704. Demos precisely described the Deerfield raid along
with the process of traveling to Canada. Throughout the book, Demos also covered some
individual captive experiences and events. Demos showed the life of Eunice before her life was
changed and how it would be if she was not taken. He stated why the raid was the way it was and
showed the success of it.

The three hundred mile journey to Montreal has begun. As this moment, The Williamses know
they are destined for a march . . . into a strange land, as prisoners (Demos 19). Things began to get
rough as the trail elongated. Out of all the captives, only ninety two captives survived the actual
march to Canada. Many of the captives were killed along the journey. Many were women including
John Williams wife. Before the captives reached Canada, the group split into smaller groups. They
all ended up going in separate destinations. As days and months eventually went by, the Williams
children along with many other remaining captives were eventually dispersed amongst the
numerous participating Indians tribes. Upon coming to New France, the prisoners were sold to the
French, and later exchanged for release by the governors of the English and French colonies.
For John Williams, he was redeemed by the French governor. There would be no hope of his
children being released for a while. Not until Mr. Williams made his way back to New England,
which ended up being almost three years he eventually got the French governor to release all of
his children after a negotiation. Only one was left captive, her name was Eunice. She ended up
staying a captive for many years at the starting age of six years old. The Kahnawake Indian tribe
took her and refused to sell her to the French.

Produce an audio recording for the Network manager to explain the impact of their organisational policies on the troubleshooting and repair process. Introduction In this documents, I am going to be explaining the impact of organisational policies on the troubleshooting and repair process, I am going to be talking about the organisational policies, such as considerations e.g. security, costs, systems downtime, disruption, resource allocation, prioritisation, contractual requirements, trend analysis, escalation procedures, documentation, reporting, contractual legal issues.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Resources should be well balanced so if the resources are not needed they shouldn t been used. Prioritisation The company should prioritize some of the aspect when performing repair as they might be more important and they should be repaired first. For example if network is down and at the same time printer is not working. The person that perform repair should concentrate on repairing network instead of printer as without network printer would be useless. Contractual Requirements In a company, the support team staff would be required to work shifts that will provide coverage for the employees when the offices are officially opened, they will also need to provide extra time in the evening and weekends, where they will carry out the essential maintenance which may have to involve some downtime. The hours that an employee will have to work will be set out for them in what is called an employment contract. They will be limited by the EU legislation and some other regulations such as working time regulations, which will provide the basic right and protections such as: A worker can be required to work at most an average of 48 hours a week (though workers can choose to work more if they want to). For night workers there is a limit of an average of 8 hours worked in 24. Night workers are entitled to receive free health assessments. • 5. Analysis Of Hearts In Atlantis The novella Hearts and the four stories together signify a shift from an age of innocence when three friends from a Connecticut neighborhood enjoyed a simple childhood, free of violence, heartbreak, and protest through a ferocious era of change during the Vietnam War, and the pains of growing up, to a period where Carol, Sully John and Willie try to live their lives with the mistakes they ve made and with the heavy burden of looking back at the war and those lives and events that have impacted their own. Further, it describes a story that symbolizes King s assertion that his generation had the chance to change the world, but the turbulent years during the VietnamWar destroyed that hope, and those in his generation either sold out their values and conformed or were destroyed by alcohol, drugs or disease. Hearts in Atlantis is unique in that although there are five different stories it is less about following each of those stories individually but rather following the characters through each story noting what year it is in their life. First, Carol is a main character in both Low Men and Hearts, and in the final story Heavenly Shades (and a supporting character in Blind Willie and Why We re in Vietnam). In Low Men, she is a young girl growing up in fictional Harwich, Connecticut (suburb of Bridgeport) with her neighborhood friends Bobby and Sully John. She is more perceptive than the boys, at first not trusting of Ted Brautigan, thinking that he is running from something. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pressure ulcers are classified from stage I through IV depending on the depth and damage to the tissue, there are also unstageable and deep tissue injuries (McCance Huether, 2014). The patient has been identified with a stage III pressure ulcer which means there is full thickness skin loss involving damage or necrosis of subcutaneous tissue that may extend to, but not through, underlying fascia (McCance Huether, 2014, p 1625). The goal of treatment will be to stop the progression to a stage IV ulcer and heal the current stage III pressure ulcer while minimizing pain and infection. Wound Healing Harper, Young, and McNaught, (2014) explain the four distinct phases of wound healing that are identified as hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation and tissue remodeling. Hemostasis is the body s response to prevent exsanguinations; thusly, the cascading response to injury causes constriction of blood vessels but if continued, leads to tissue hypoxia and acidosis. The next stage of healing is inflammation. This stage is a result of cells that inhibit and prevent infection and once the resulting threat of infection is gone, inflammation will subside. Prolonged inflammation can lead to chronic wound formation. The next stage of healing is proliferation which consists of angiogenesis, formation of granulation tissue, collagen deposition, epitheliazation and wound retraction. It is during this stage the extracellular matrix is laid down forming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. 12 Monkeys Anthropology 12 Monkeys is a 1995 film directed by Terry Gilliam in 1995. It is a science fiction film dealing with time travel. Time travel stories have been used in different films and other art media, but 12 Monkeys treats time travel in an unusual way. It is reasonable to say that 12 Monkeys does not have a very clear narrative like other classic Hollywood films do. And this messiness is mostly caused by how the filmitself deals with time travel and how it presents it to viewers. 12 Monkeys creates an uncertainty of time travel. This sort of uncertainty does make the narrative less comprehensible, however, it is this uncertainty that attracts the audience. The story of 12 Monkeys itself is not very hard to understand. • 9. Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases. The body is unable to produce or absorb sufficient amounts of insulin. This causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood. The pancreas normally produces insulin which regulates the level of glucose in the blood as 1)well as how it s used. Glucose is vital to your health because it s an important source of energy for the cells that make up your muscles and tissues. It s also your brain s main source of fuel (mayoclinic.org/ 2014). The endocrine pancreas is filled with the islets of Langerhan. These islets, or regions of the pancreas, are clusters of cells, which each islet containing 3,000 to 4,000 cells. Scientists estimate there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the dysfunction here is in the cells that are receiving the message from the insulin (Dr. Andrew Wolf, You Tube Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus ). As stated by Dr. Wolf, the most current theory is that those persons having high levels of fatty acids circulating in their blood causes a high level of inflammatory cytokines hormones in the blood. These block or interfere with this messenger system. Thus, glucose cannot get into the cell. The result is a high blood glucose level which stimulates the beta cells to make more insulin. However, as the problem continues, extra insulin is produced by the overworked beta cells over time and some of these cells are destroyed. You then have Type 2 Diabetes. If this condition isn t corrected by diet and lifestyle changes, the disease will get worse. Higher and higher levels of glucose will eventually kill off all the beta cells and you will now have a Type 2 Diabetic who is insulin dependent. If there is a persistent consumption of glucose and hyper processed foods, our cells change by reducing the number of receptors on their surfaces to respond to insulin (Perlmutter,2013). Perlmutter(2013) notes that there is cell desensitization to insulin which causes a condition called insulin resistances. Then the cells can ignore the insulin and there is a failure to retrieve glucose from the blood. More and more insulin is now pumped out by the pancreas so that much higher levels become ... • 10. Touching The Void By Joe Simpson Throughout the novel, Touching the Void, the author, Joe Simpson, describes his perilous journey through the Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes. It is through the two key turning points in the story that humanity s greatest struggles, fears, and revelations can be discovered through how Joe and Simon react in their varying situations. In the beginning, two mountaineers, Joe and Simon, venture upon the Siula Grande. After reaching the summit relatively quickly, they begin their descent without much, if any, hesitation. In fact, the top of the mountain, which is the greatest spectacle of the climb, isn t seen as jaw dropping by the protagonists as we think it d be. As Joe puts it, we took customary summit photos and ate some chocolate. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be applied to any emotion in humans, including the lack of accomplishment in Joe and Simon. They need to experience the fall to appreciate the climb. Saying that, does this mean that humans are destined to fail? Afterall, it s the only way we can learn from our mistakes and become more complex individuals. Perhaps this means that humanity can never be perfect. Maybe flaws are supposed to happen. Because, if we d never make mistakes, there wouldn t be any progress; and we wouldn t have any emotional range due to things always being so perfect. So, without flaws, would we still be human? Stuck in the middle of a blizzard, Simon has to lower Joe, who s broken his leg, down the mountain with a waist attached rope. This goes well until Joe slips off the cliff face and is left hanging in midair, off the mountain. However, Simon just thinks it s just taking him a long time to make his way down; it s much different than that. As Joe puts it, there was at least 100 feet of air below my feet! For hours, Joe tries his best to climb back up the rope using a Prusik knot. But Simon has just about run out of patience. So, in a sudden move, he cuts the rope, causing Joe to plummet to his doom. This can show a lot about how humans react to things. Despite Simon not knowing Joe s situation, he willingly cuts the rope without further investigation. • 11. Bronze Ceiling Will women ever break the bronze ceiling? by Maya Rhodan is an article in the September 4, 2017 edition of Time magazine. It is about how the U.S. is trying to change the fact that there is a very small amount of statues of real, historical women in the United States. The article later talks about the protest for the removal of the Robert E. Lee statue in Charlottesville, va and how many places in the U.S. took down Confederate memorials. It says in response to this protest Now a parallel movement is growing to boost representations of people who have been left out (Rhodan 28). Later in the article, it describes the change in the U.S. regarding the issue that women aren t generally depicted in statues. It later shows the change happening... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I enjoyed reading it, and it was very interesting to me. I agree with the author when she says the United States needs more statues of females in our cities and towns. Women were important in history, too! I also think it was well stated when she mentioned that as a country, we should be sending a message that women played a major role in our nation s history. They are of equal importance. I can tell in this article that the author is trying to evoke a sense of emotion, patriotism, and feminism in their readers to get them to agree with her point. It was quite effective, and I do agree with the author after reading this article. I could tell the author was passionate about the subject of the article, and the tone of the piece reflected it. I know the author was for this change because she wrote positively about this movement. I think the author adequately supports her claims that women need more representation in the U.S. by stating the facts. She gave numbers and percentages of the actual numbers of statues of historical women in places around the country to prove that women really aren t represented in the U.S. The author s source is credible regarding the information for the movement itself, because she got her information from one of the women heading up this movement, Kanishka ... • 12. A Separate Peace Rhetorical Analysis Paul uses many tactics throughout his imprisonment in order to keep some control over his and Annie s alliance. One effective method he uses is flattery, complimenting Annie in order to keep her happy and her mood stable. His use of this move is demonstrated on page 60 in the novel, when he calls Annie his favorite nurse. He uses it again on page 107, telling Annie that she could not be old enough to remember the chapter plays, hinting at how she looks way younger than she actually is. Paul uses this strategy to lighten Annie s mood and keep her happy, which is vital to him because Annie can become very destructive and impatient when angry, consequently being the main source of Paul s pain throughout the book. • 14. The Environmental Impact Of The Environmental Movement... Environmental Movement Report Before the 1960s, environmentalism mainly focused on conservation of resources and the wilderness and was apparent through Theodore Roosevelt s creation of five National Parks, one hundred fifty National Forests and about two hundred thirty acres of land set aside for conservation. In the 1960s, the environmental movement was really able to garner support as it was during many other movements such as Civil Rights, Peace, and Women s. Many consider the spark for environmentalism to be Rachel Carson s Silent Spring (1962), which exposed the harmful effects of pollutants such as DDT on the environment and the public. While minute amounts of DDT cause little to no harm to the organisms that are affected, as DDT moves up the food chain, it becomes more and more concentrated. A generally accepted value is that for each level up in the food chain, the concentration of pollutants increases by a thousand times. The effects of Silent Spring cannot be overestimated. As people began to become more informed about pollution, more people demanded that the federal government take action. The environmental movement then grew to encompass global warming, clean air, energy, the ozone layer, and also pollution. These concerns were vocalized in the very first Earth Day that occurred on April 22, 1970 and was established by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson. Climate change is a change of environment patterns. In specific the change was obvious from the mid to late 20th century. The reason of the dramatic change was due to large increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. We as people can barely or see no change at all. But the truth is that our Earth is warming little by little. Minor changes in the average temperature of the earth can transform to massive and possibly dangerous shifts in climate and weather. Global temperatures have been on the rise, Earth average temperature has by 1.4 Fahrenheit over the past 100 years, and temperature is projected to increase 2 to 11.5 Fahrenheit over the next century. Again as we can see the evidence of climate changes such as increasing of temperatures, changes in precipitation, consequence in more floods, ice glaciers are melting, and oceans are warming. ( United States Environmental Protection Agency, 2014) As those changes take place in our Earth, it becomes more challenging for us humans, and creatures around the planet. So as we understand, the managing of climate change is important, because it will create awareness on the role of science, as well the role of humans, the effects of climate change, and the adaptation of climate change. • 16. A Theological Perspective of the Clash of Civilizations... Introduction On more than one occasion, President George W. Bush has described the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, as fostering a monumental battle of good versus evil. In this battle, there has been no doubt in his mind (or in ours) regarding who is on the side of good and who is on the side of evil. Though some have winced at the President s use of such absolute moral terms to portray the tragic events of that fateful day, others have applauded his courageous use of such unfashionable discourse as entirely appropriate, even suggesting that it implies the demise of the cultural scourge of postmodern moral relativism. According to the editors of Foreign Affairs, Huntington s article generated more response over a three year period than any other article they had published since the 1940s. Given the interest in, as well as the controversy over and misrepresentation of his article, Huntington decided that the prudent thing to do would be to expand it into a book length treatment in which he would explore more deeply and document more thoroughly the thesis he propounded in his article. So the outcome was a 1996 book titled The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of the World Order.4 In this work conceived as an interpretation of the evolution of global politics after the Cold War, Huntington aspires, as he says, to present a framework, a paradigm, for viewing global politics that will be meaningful to scholars and useful to policymakers. 5 Its central theme is virtually identical to that of his article, namely that culture and cultural identities, which at Huntington is the Albert J. The human journey can be seen as a quest a search for knowledge, comfort and ultimately for understanding. Perhaps the greatest of humanities question have involved faith and the notion of a divine god/being. Beliefs about god have traveled a long road to today s understanding of the notion of God, the divine and sacred. In Durkheim s theory of Religion, both these concepts are the central tenant. The Sacred , according to Durkheim is an ideal, something that transcends everyday existence and is both awe inspiring as well as fear inducing, and something potentially dangerous as well as extra ordinary. Sacred in his view refers to things that have been set apart by man as requiring special religious treatment and veneration. One key point to note is that Sacred can be anything, from the earth to the moon, a bird, an animal, a rock, a tree to a god. The sacredness comes from a community marking them as such and once they have been established as a sacred, they are embodied in religious practices, sentiments and beliefs. The profane, on the other hand is anything that is simply ordinary, it embraces practices, persons and ideas that are in the end seen with everyday mundane attitudes of familiarity, utility and commonness. Both the sacred and profane are highly interrelated due to the extreme levels of emotions they invoke in the people that believe in them and according the Durkheim, the concept of Sacred and the profane varies amongst society to society (Durkheim, ... Depressive disorders are diverse, but they all affect the wellbeing of individuals in relation to their work, social relations, and education needs (NIH, 2015). Depressive Disorder Concept Every once in a while an individual experiences sadness and blue moods however they pass after some time and the person resumes their life. Depressive disorders are characterized by sadness and loss of interest in things that were once pleasurable (APA, 2013). In contrast to a mood that goes away a person suffering from depressive disorders experience persistent episodes of sadness. Depressive disorders in contrast to a bad mood affect the mental and physical functioning of a person and cause deterioration in those functions. Depressive disorders change the thinking, feelings and behavior of the affected person and they can become a threat to themselves and others (Olfson et al. 2005). • 27. Chemical Synapse The chemical synapse allows for the communication between 2 nerve cells when an AP reaches the end of the axon and the signal subsequently modulates a postsynaptic membrane potential. This occurs at neuronal connection points the synapses. These consist of the axon terminals belonging to the sender cell (presynaptic neuron) and the dendritic spine heads of the receiver cell (postsynaptic neuron). Between them lies the synaptic cleft. At the chemical synapse, the electrical signal (AP) is converted into a chemical signal, in order to cross this synaptic divide. The extracellular fluid therein poses a physical obstacle for the AP that is, unless it manages to temporarily morph into a chemical courier (neurotransmitter). Thereafter, postsynaptic ion channels (re)turn the latter (in)to its electrical form. To switch the chemical signal off, the neurotransmitter is removed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This triggers a fusion of small vesicles (neurotransmitter containers) with the presynaptic membrane. The vesicles burst and release the neurotransmitter into the synaptic cleft (exocytosis), where it travels towards and docks at its specific receptor on the postsynaptic membrane. These receptors are directly connected to an ion channel, which thereupon opens (lock key principle). A Na/K channel, for example, initiates a high influx of Na+ and a slight efflux of K+ ions at the postsynaptic membrane. The latter then depolarizes and generates an AP an electrical signal passed on along a postsynaptic dendrite. But some neurotransmitter like GABA, for example, will not trigger a postsynaptic depolarization (Dnalc.org, n.d.). When GABA docks at its receptors, K /Cl channels open. K+ ions flow out of, while Cl ions enter the cell. Thus, the negative charge inside the cell increases and the membrane is hyperpolarized. An inhibitory postsynaptic potential is triggered and an AP ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How would the efficiency of the filtration be affected by hot water used instead? Cold water was used because it does not dissolve solids as readily as hot water does. Using hot water in the filtration step would result in some of the crude luminol being dissolved. This would be less efficient since product is being removed and would give less of a product yield. 4.When isolating the solid through precipitate and vacuum filtration, why was the solid not rinsed with a solvent like ethyl acetate or dichloromethane? Analysis Of The Poem Mark Strand Jamie Wiederholt Mrs. Carson AP Literature 8 December 2015 Mark Strand Mark Strand once said, For some of us, the less said about the way we do things the better. (Strand). In this he might have been referring to his poems. He wrote straightforward surrealistic poems about the nature of life with ambiguous speakers. It is common to see in his poems a story being told without actually telling one. In this way there is a sense of who the speaker is, who the poet is, and a peculiar train of thought expressed with very precise words. Mark Strand was greatly influenced by his time period. The influence of surrealism, a popular form of art in the twentieth century, is prevalent throughout his poems. Mark Strand states in his poet laureate interview that he wished to be like the other poets of his time. He was influenced by Wallace Stevens and Lorca when he was a college student at Yale. In college, he started as an artist and ended as a poet (Nordhaus). His poem, Eating Poetry expresses his love for poetry in a curious way, I have been eating poetry (3). To help bring to light his own personal feelings, he uses surrealistic imagery. He enjoys poetry to an extent that words cannot express, but he does the impossible with this poem when he expresses his enjoyment through the consumption of poetry. Motor Execution Paper Motor Execution The production of speech demands coordination of laryngeal, respiratory, and orofacial muscles (Simonyan Horwitz, 2011), and once the brain has the framework and layout for what it wants to produce vocally, it can begin to implement its plan. In order to do this, it must leave the cerebrum and begin its journey down the spinal cord, the secondary part of the central nervous system. The journey begins in the motor cortices. Once the signal has been organized, it leaves Broca s area and makes its way towards the motor cortices in the frontal lobe, which include the precentral gyrus (or the primary motor cortex), the premotor cortex, and the supplementary motor area (Ferrand, 2014). The primary motor cortex controls, directs, and coordinates contralateral voluntary movements of skeletal muscles, including the muscles that take part in speech production (Ferrand, 2014). The right to keep our laziness, against the right of freedom, already established years and years ago? Thousands upon thousands of lives lost, because we were too good to do our own housework? He united thousands upon thousands of people by showing that he wasn t going to give up his freedom. He taught them peace and how to work together to accomplish great things. We all have a role of living out the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whether in our home, school, or community. As Dr. King once said, Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend. If you look around today, you can see that racism is not completely dead. Although it has sufficiently died down, I don t think racism will be completely gone for a long time and I am sure many others do too. But we can do our part, by simply not judging others on how they look, their wealth, or their heritage, but by who they really are on the inside. Dr. King also taught that we should not be putting people in groups, again because of how they look, their wealth, or their heritage. We should not be the one to decide what they will do, where they will go, and what they will say. No one has the power to completely take control over someone s thoughts, their words, or their actions. And if you can t completely control them, what s the point in trying? This may occur in a courtroom, on the legislative floor or at the employer s offices, but the fact that the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) receives around 80,000 discriminatory filings annually, with 99,922 in 2010, there is little wonder the amount of attention to discriminationis warranted (Walsh, 2013). According to the EEOC s website, the discrimination claims were more than the annual averages, but less than 99,000 in 2010, at 88,788 in 2014 ( EEOC Releases Fiscal , 2015). We were able to find all solutions that would work through a feasible region the intersections of the lines created in the graph. (see visual). You may ask (I know I did), with all these solutions how ever would we find the best solution ? An accurate response to that would be through an optimal expression. We took the profit expression and made it equal to a certain profit, $310. After solving, (see visual) the points received were 80, 100. We then used the line from these two points (by moving it upward) to find further higher profits within the feasible region, giving us the idea that we could estimate the highest possible profit by taking our line to the last stretching corner of the feasible region. These houses are not built by commercial architects or designers but by experienced village master builders, through the soul, the hands and labourers of the community. This allows each houseto take on a unique personality and character reflecting its inhabitants. The beauty of this architecture has long been dismissed as accidental, but today we should be able to recognize it as the result of rare good sense in the handling of practical problems. Essentially, this theory makes the assumption that if there is a war between two countries, it will be between one that is democratic and one that is not. There has been some evidence that no two democratic countries have ever been to war, if we are talking about war in the sense of military action (Griffiths et al., 2008). For example, 353 pairs of states engaged in wars between 1816 1991 and none was between two democracies: 155 pairs involved a democracy and a non democratic country, and 198 involved two non democratic states fighting each other (Griffiths et al., 2008). A reason for why democratic peace theorists stress that democratic states fight with only non democratic states is due to the reason that, they may be dangerous because they seek other ends, such as conquest or plunder (Owen 1994). When did the theory originate? Democratic Peace Theory, as it came to be known, emerged as a robust research programme in the post Cold War years (Daddow, 2013). According to Rosato (2003), the theory is probably the most powerful liberal contribution to the debate on the causes of war and peace (p.585) Now let s talk about the ideology that the theory can be drawn from and let s see how the ideology and the theory can be linked together to help prove that some sort of democratic peace can and does exist. The disrespect and aggression is employed when a brick is thrown through his house window, threatening him with the derogatory coloured comments calling him Coach Coon . Usually, anarcho capitalism is defended from one of two views, consequentialist or deontologist. Friedman takes the consequentialist side believing that it is actually more desirable for the market to provide law and protection than the state because it gives the people choice to choose what they believe and competition will promote improvement. Deontologists, however, believe that any initiation of force is immoral, so they would prefer a law banning the initiation of force rather than private protection agencies. Despite... It has been seen election after election that politicians will tell the public what they want to hear in an effort to win, but during their candidacy they will not fulfill their promises. In an anarcho capitalist society, this wouldn t happen because when people choose their protection agency they would be able to look at the company s records of how they handle their other customers emergencies. From this information they would be able to tell how they would be treated because companies usually follow the same procedures for every customer. Politicians, on the other hand, often have to face new problems so voters can only make an educated guess on what they will do next. Also, it is often difficult to know how corrupt a politician really is behind the scenes. Therefore, the people participate in rational ignorance because they know their vote alone won t change the result of the election, so they don t bother to investigate deeply into each politician. Microfinance Is The Best Option Help People Out Of Poverty Microfinance is grown to one of the biggest areas in fighting again poverty, it can be discussed, if microcredits are the best option to help people out of poverty. In the past it was almost impossible for the poor population of the world to get a loan with acceptable conditions. Banks would not lend to the poor, because the risk of losing the money was too high for them, which meant poor people in Africa had no chance of getting a loanfrom big banks. The so called money lenders would take advantage of this situation, and give the poor an opportunity to receive a loan. The money lenders were not trying to help the poor, they just wanted to earn money, thinking on their own personal benefit. That s why their loans have insane conditions with interest payments of a couple hundred percent. If someone could not pay back the loan in time, they would take everything from the customers, and maybe even kill them. This was the only opportunity for poor people to get a loan until microfinance was born. Another problem is, that women have been excluded from the banking system in general in some regions of the world, because that was nothing women would do in their culture. In most cultures it was implemented, that women are staying at home, taking care of the house, children, and food. Men would go to work and earn the money for the family needed for the cost of living. It would also be more complicated for women to get a loan, because they traditionally work less than men, and ...
