Writing an essay on the topic of "Essay Law" can be quite challenging. The subject itself is broad
and encompasses various aspects of legal principles, theories, and applications. One must delve
into legal frameworks, precedents, and scholarly discussions to provide a comprehensive and
well-argued perspective.
The difficulty lies not only in understanding complex legal concepts but also in articulating them
coherently. Crafting a well-structured essay requires the ability to present arguments logically,
cite relevant cases and statutes, and critically analyze legal issues. Moreover, it demands a
thorough grasp of legal terminology and an awareness of the evolving nature of laws.
Research plays a pivotal role, as a solid essay on law necessitates in-depth exploration of legal
literature, academic journals, and recent legal developments. Staying updated on changes in
legislation and judicial decisions is crucial to ensure the essay's relevance and accuracy.

of complexity. Proper referencing demonstrates a deep understanding of academic integrity and
respect for intellectual property.

fosters critical thinking, analytical skills, and a nuanced understanding of legal intricacies.

Judgment Papers
Judgment Paper To be a leader, one must have many qualities. Most people believe
that leaders have qualities that determine if they are a good or bad leader, such as
being smart, punctual, sociable, and charismatic. These traits are all very important
to a leader, but the novel, Judgment, by Noel M. Tichy and Warren G. Bennis
explain that the most important quality to a leader is their ability to make good
decisions. Tichy and Bennis write Judgment to clarify what is really important in a
leader and what leadershipreally means. Judgment is extremely important in a leader.
Tichy and Bennis make sure to emphasize that leaders MUST make good judgment

Tichy and Bennis explain that there are three different domains that leaders must
essentially make decisions on. The first and most important domain is people
judgment calls. It is the most important because it has the most potential of being
fatal if a wrong judgment call is made. Also, if the wrong people are chosen for a
team, then there is a high possibility for the strategy not to be executed and for
crises to be handled poorly. So, the first and foremost actions that need to be done
are to figure out who should and should not be on the team. A good leader needs to
know how to choose team members because they are responsible in recognize[ing]
the need, fram[ing] the issue, and mobiliz[ing] and align[ing] the parties who can
provide the information and advice needed to make a good call (Tichy and Bennis
88). This is extremely difficult because the leader must evaluate each person based
on what they know. Also, people are not objects and so a leader may become
attached and that will impair the leader s judgment and will lead to failure.
A good scenario for people judgment calls would be A. G. Lafley who worked for P
G. Lafley came into P G with a plan. He wanted to make sure the company changed

Slave Narrative Frederick Douglass Rhetorical Analysis
The outlook of Slave Narrative draft
In convincing people to be aware of the rights of slaves, Douglass wrote a slave
narrative to argue people should be equally treated even a slave. In his novel, he
effectively uses pathos, ethos as persuasiveness to make claims more powerful and
logos to make people easily accept. His primary audiences should be guilty and

Firstly, Douglass wisely uses intrinsic ethos to enable people to understand about the
opinions of slave towards white people, which he states trust no man! I saw in every

Essay On The Pantheon
The Pantheon introduction This essay will show you the development of architecture
over the years, and the influence it has had on modern day design. The influence this
design has had from 2000 years ago, on our modern day designs is shown in the
follow extracts. We will also look at how the design and architecture of the pantheon
had an influence on the buildings that were built at a later stage through time. The
Pantheon is a circular building with a portico of large granite columns after 2000
years the dome of the pantheon is still the world s largest unreinforced concrete dome
which caused that many builders and architects studied the dome to reconstruct and

Monetary Policy in the United States Essay
Monetary Policy in the United States
1.Identify at least three problems facing the FED in achieving its goals of monetary
policy and give your recommendations on how to deal with each of the problems you
list.
Inflation presents a problem for the FED achieving it s goal of price stability. Inflation
is unavoidable as far as the natural progression of an economy is concerned. Supply
and demand also affect inflation. While the FED cannot control supply and demand
of a product, I would suggest that they try to control price stability by creating
regulations of what a company can charge related to the supply and value of a
product. A high unemployment rate negatively affects the FED s goal of a high
employment rate. The employment rate is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3.Explain how changes in reserve requirements and the discount rate affect the
operations of banks and other depository institutions.
Changes in reserve requirements and the discount rate affect the operations of banks
and other depository institutions by changing the amount of actual funding that they
have available to them. If they are required to hold more actual money, they may
have less financial instruments such as gold to back up the value of the money. If the
discount rate fluctuates, banks may have to adjust interest rates on their loans to
compensate for the money they are gaining or losing.
4.Explain why the FED cannot set intermediate targets in terms of both monetary
aggregates and interest rates.
The FED can only pursue one target at any given time. For example, if they are
targeting interest rates, exchange rates will fluctuate and vice versa. The FED s
influence over real interest rates is weaker than that of nominal interest rates and
stabilizing the economy is more important than stabilizing interest rates.
5.Update the case information by using at least two (2) data sources in addition to the
text.
Modern monetary policy does not involve gold as much as it used to in the past. In
1968, the United States reneged on it s guarantee to pay in gold and effectively

Critical Reflection
Anyone can turn his weaknesses into strengths , I was reading the book David and
Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell, and the book was about a battle between David, the
underdog, and Goliath, the giant, and it explains how David defeated a giant by
using his unconventional strategies. It also talks about how some underdogs can
overcome their weaknesses; in addition, it also explains how power comes in
different forms. Malcolm Gladwell proved his arguments by providing some real
life experiences of different underdogs. According to Gladwell, an underdog is a
person who is underestimated by everyone to perform any task successfully.
Malcolm Gladwell also explains many other terms to prove his argument. I have
experiences in my student life where I felt like an underdog. I felt disempowered
because of my weaknesses. I still remember the first day of my English 838 class at
College of San Mateo, and I felt so unconfident in the classroom because I was not a
native speaker. There were also moments in my college classes where I felt
empowered because of my strengths; for example, I felt empowered in my Math 120
and pre calculusclass because I already knew the concepts of these classes. I had a
lot of moments in my life where I felt empowered and disempowered as a student,
but learning from those moments helped me to succeed in my college classes.
I felt disempowered in my English 838 classroom because English was not my
native language. I have been in the United States for a year now. Earlier I was at
the University of North Texas for a semester, then I transferred to College of San
Mateo because of some financial issues in spring 2017. I registered for my English
838 class for the spring semester, but I was really worried about this class. I was so
nervous for taking English class because It was my first time taking an English class
in the United States. I came from a country where English is not a native language.
Even though I was from an English medium high school in India, I was so nervous
because I wasn t sure that if I am ready to take a college level English Class. I was so

Medicine in Ancient Egypt vs Ancient Greece Essay
Ancient civilizations played a massive role in how physicians today practice
medicine. Without the ideas of ancient Egypt and ancient Greece, modern medicine
may have been different. I feel that these two civilizations are responsible for many
diagnostic tools we use today. I will be comparing and contrasting the medicinal
practices of ancient Egyptand ancient Greece. By reading various papyri we are able
to dive into the Egyptian practice of medicine. These papyri explore various illnesses
and their cures. Papyrus texts reveal that doctors had detailed knowledge of the
various body systems. The knowledge of medicine, anatomy and the functioning of
the human body has been attributed to the embalming procedures practiced by the...

Like that of Egypt, ancient Greece also believed in gods. Asclepius is the god of
medicine and healing. Healing temples were built in Asclepius honor. People would
flock to these healing temples because they believed that all of their illnesses would
be cured. Greek physicians also believed in using magic and rituals and cure patients
of sickness. In Greece, medicine and religion were strongly tied together. Hippocrates
, known as the father of medicine wanted to separate medicine from the divine. He
began to question patients to properly help them. Hippocrates would ask patients
how they felt, he would check their symptoms and then diagnosis and treat them.
He influenced our world of modern medicine because this is how physicians today
treat patients. He also introduced case studies, which was the first step in modern
medicine. Greeks also used various herbs to treat illness. Anise, a flowering plant,
was used to help relieve women of menstrual cramps. Black hellebore was used to
help treat paralysis and gout. Greeks also believed that we were made out of
substances known as the four humors; sanguine (blood), choleric (yellow bile) ,
melancholic (black bile) and phlegmatic (phlegm). Greeks believed that if you were
healthy, that was because your four humors were balanced. If you had too much of
one humor, you would be unbalanced and you would feel ill. For example, if you
has too much blood it would give you

Wonderful Pistachios Advertising Campaigns
The ad campaign run by Wonderful Pistachios is a perfect example of the
persuasion techniques; Bandwagon, timing, and association. The Bandwagon
effect is explained as showing many people using a product, implying that
everyone is using it. Timing is related to the success of a message because it is not
always what the message conveys but rather it depends on the time it s delivered.
The association technique aims to connect a service, product, or idea with
something already desired by the target audience, such as, security, fun, beauty,
success, or wealth. The media message does not make it explicit that the viewer
will receive these things but the association is implied. The campaign utilizes
controversial and comedic celebrities to draw the attention of the younger
generation. This is an example bandwagon effect at work. These celebrities include
people from shows like Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Jersey Shore, which
intrigue the younger target market because they feel they can relate to these people.
The target market of this campaign is women raging from ages of 18 to 34. This
includes both women in the workforce and women attending college. The average
consumer in this target market strives to be one step ahead of celebritygossip and
social media. The viewers feel excellent about providing a healthy alternative snack
for their children while still providing the salty snack that most children crave. It has

Cluniac Monasticism Essay
Cluniac Monasticism
Assess the strengths and weaknesses of Cluniac monasticism between the tenth and

The nature of Cluny lay in the circumstances of it s foundation. It was endowed with
a measure of independence by it s founder, Duke William, allowing the monks to
elect their own abbot, placing the abbey directly under the guardianship of St Peter
and the Apostolic See. As a house dedicated to reviving strict Benedictine observance
Cluny was not unique, but it was this indepencence, the succesion of talented abbots

Charity and almsgiving also formed a regular part of life at Cluny, which again

It was a combination of the personal authority of the abbots, the benedictine

was held that resulted in the expansion of the Order. The success of the order in it s
resoration of benedictine observence attracted invitations by lay magnates for the
Cluniacs to reform their monastries, and gifts of houses, some new foundations,
some old abbeys. Such reform was not always welcomed by the monks of the
profered houses, such as the monks of Fleury. Papal paronage, and the will of lay
benefactors meant that from the time of Odilo these reformed houses became
dependecies of Cluny. This was not always put into effect immediately, and the
tightness of the bond varied from house to house. It was the independence granted in
the founding charter that allowed the Order to expand this way, and develop
independently. Not only was Cluny free from control of any local magnate or bishop,
it was also trusted by all due to this autonomy.
Cluny attracted gifts from all levels of society and of all sorts, from monstries,
churches and lands, to child oblates, gifts of money large and small and goods. It

Ancient Egyptian Beliefs
Religions are like fire. They have the potential to warm a house or have the ability to
burn a house down. Ancient Egyptians religious beliefs were influential to their
sustainability. We see some of their ancient values in honoring the earth and living a
life of balance has globalized and manifested in many religions around the world.
Ancient Egyptians practiced a religionthat celebrated the afterlife, honored the earth
we live on, and shared many similarities and differences with other religions around
the world. Ancient Egyptians believed in polytheism, and worshipped many gods.
Many of their gods were associated with Earth elements and served as catalysts
between nature and humankind. Based off the definition of religion, ancient
Egyptians were very religious as they believed in life after a death. They lived by
the way of ma at which meant that their life impacted the lives of others they
should maintain that balance and awareness. Although, they believed in many
Gods, the act of practicing religion in their day to day lives was embodied in the god
Heka. Mark describes Heka as, He was the god of magic and medicine but was also
the power which enabled the gods to perform their functions and allowed human
beings to commune with their gods (Mark, 2017). One could say Heka was the god
of balance and access to all other Gods of ancient Egypt. The balance of gods was
even depicted in the androgyny of their gods. Mark also describes this as, The

All Summer In A Day
The short story All Summer in a Day takes place on the planet Venus. It was
written in March 1954 by Ray Bradbury. Bradbury s life experiences influenced
him to write All Summer in a Day. The story uses foreshadowing to reveal the
themes of jealousy and isolation. Ray Bradbury went through several life events
that led him to write the sci fi short story All Summer in a Day. In Ray Bradbury s
early years he loved magicians and would regularly do science projects with his
grandfather. He would always read adventure and fantasy short stories. With him
doing science projects with his grandfather and his love for short stories they both
inspired him to write All Summer in a Day. All Summer in a Day is a story that

Warriors Don t Cry By Melba Pattillo Beals
On May 17th, 1954, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Brown v. Board of
Education of Topeka, Kansas, officially making the separation of blacks and whites in
public schools unconstitutional (Beals 12). This ultimately led to a constant struggle
in the South to keep schools segregated. The most notable situation occurred in the
town of Little Rock, Arkansas during the 1957 school year. Nine black students
volunteered to integrate into Central High. This constant struggle to turn the
Supreme Court ruling into a societal norm was documented by one of the Little Rock
Nine. Melba Pattillo Beals s novel, Warriors Don t Cry, depicts the forces in favor of
integration, forces opposing integration, and the constant adversity faced by the Little
Rock Nine.
The multiple forces in favor of integration were determined to gain access to Central
High School and integrate public schools in the south. Before any integration was
possible in the United States, the NAACP, or the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People, was forced to file a lawsuit in the Federal District
Court to integrate public schools immediately due to the public and state backlash
towards integration (Beals 20). Judge Ronald Davies declared that Governor Faubus
had thwarted the court approved plan of integration furthering the movement to
integrate Central High (Beals 68). After the lawsuit was settled, the Little Rock Nine
was scheduled to integrate into Central High School. However, even after these
Benefits Of Retirement Plan Will Fit Financial Needs
Introduction
Choosing which retirement plan will fit financial needs is not always the easiest
decision to make. While investing in both traditional and Roth individual retirement
accounts (IRAs) appears to draw considerable attention, differences in the rules for
contributing to and withdrawing from these retirement plans places individuals and
married couples in a predicament. They may choose to invest in either a traditional or
Roth IRA while they may also choose to invest in self direct, direct contribution
(DB) or defined benefit (DB) plans sponsored by employers. In any case, individuals
and married couples approaching retirement age should carefully consider their own
financial needs before choosing to invest in any retirement ... Show more content on

Other types of earned income include alimony and military differential pay, but does
not include interest or dividends from investments, income from rental property and
pension payments (para. 3). In terms of contribution limits for individuals and
married couples with a Roth IRA, if earned income for one year is less than the
contribution limits, they may only contribute up the total earned income amount
(para. 4). As of 2014, for individuals and married couples under the age of 50, the
annual contribution limit is $5,500. For married couples filing separately, the earned
income limit for making contributions to a Roth IRA is $10,000. Otherwise, a
married filing separately does not have any eligibility for making contributions to a
Roth IRA.
Tax Incentives Both traditional and Roth IRAs have generous tax incentives (Spors,
para. 3). However, claiming the tax incentives for either a traditional or a Roth IRA
depends on timing. With traditional IRAs, contributions made to it based on earned
income are tax deductible on both state and federal income tax returns for each year
that an individual or married couple contributes (para. 3). Withdrawals made during
retirement receive the ordinary income tax rate (para. 3). Roth IRAs, however, do not
provide any tax incentives for any contributions made to the account, though earnings
and withdrawals are mostly tax free (para. 3). In other words, with traditional IRAs,
contributions do not have
Coup 53 Research Paper
The Coup 53 has just taken place tonight, over a course of a few days. It is the first
successful overthrow of the government of Iran, done by the CIA. The U.S. has
been apart of this affair, supposedly to stop the nationalization of the oil fields. They
kept this their center reason for helping accomplish this, but they say they want to
help us Iranians get an Islam centered government. This could be the beginning of
the Islamic Revolution! Most of the information is confidential, but some has now
been uncovered. The name of this operation is TP AJAX and it has all the in s and

planning this overthrow. This shows that Washington and London do want a part...

However, a few nights ago it did not go as they planned. Things didn t play out

later CIA efforts. Its American planners, he said, had stirred up considerable unrest in
Iran, giving Iranians a clear choice between instability and supporting the

The Making of a Human Resources Department Essay
Serving as a Human Resources Manager for a rapidly growing organization in
Southern California often proves to be both challenging and rewarding. The
organization I happily work for, New American Funding (NAF) is one of the nation s
leading mortgage bankers. Coming into this organization, I had spent time working in
Human ResourcesManagement roles, but in all fairness, nothing could have prepared
me for the role with NAF.
When I was interviewed for the role as human resources manager, I was lead to
believe by a rather persuasive recruiter that there were nearly 200 employees and
the company was looking to double in the next year or two. I was nervous to

fact that the mortgage industry experienced cyclical changes, but I was informed our
company didn t experience change like most in the industry. I have learned so much
being with NAF.
In 2013 NAF experienced unsurmountable change, the company hired 699 people,
unfortunately we also had a Reduction in Force due to the change in the market and
mortgage rate increases. This created a huge difference in our call center division
and we were forced to eliminate positions. In 2013 between hires, terminations,
resignations and reduction in force position eliminations, the Human Resources
Department had nearly 1200 employee transactions. Performance management was
crucial to the vast changes that we experienced as a company. Opening new
branches and ensuring that the recruiting efforts aligned with our company goals,
vision and mission. The planning of benefits and pay was rapidly adjusted as well
as learning new state regulations opening new branch locations in Washington,
Colorado, Texas, Nevada, and Arizona in 2013 alone. Being present, accountable
and informed is not only necessary for my role; it is required to ensure that I can
build rapport with my employees.
I will never forget the first termination I had while at NAF. It was
Making a Case for Year-Round Schooling
...Thus, at the beginning of formalized education in our country, communities created
schooling schedules that were cohesive with the lifestyles and responsibilities of the
student populations. In rural areas, schooling was structured around agricultural
harvesting. Local school boards and superintendents gave students months off so that
students could help their parents with harvesting crops and caring for the farm.
Unlike their rural counterparts, in the mid 18oos, children in urban areas were
subject to year round schooling. Yet because education was not compulsory at the
time, students were able to take time off when they pleased, and thus, attendance
became inconsistent and problematic. To encourage maximum schoolattendance,...

Although summer may still be necessary for some families, year round school
provides an opportunity to accommodate both sides: year round schooling shortens
the summer break in order to maintain retention rates, however it still does allow for
a summer break for students to aid their families for harvesting their crops or taking
family vacations. It is simply in a more practical and manageable timeframe. For
those students not involved in rural work, there is the matter of childcare over the
summer. The typical option is summer camps. The American Camp
Association has established quite a presence against year round schooling due to
the conflict it poses with their schedules (Opheim 399). Yet there is a solution
available with year round schooling. Having summer break cut in half will have the
children inside learning in school, which cuts ridiculously expensive childcare costs
and concerns for parents. Summer camps will still be an option, but they would
have to conform to the children s schedules. There will also be the possible option
for several camps to occur should alternative schedules be chosen for an
overcrowded school. As uncomfortable as change can be, it will all be made in the
name of furthering education.
Year round schooling gives an equal time duration of breaks over the winter and
summer. This allows for more family time to be spent for those who do still have to
work over the summer on farms.
Point of View in Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill Essay
The narrator in the story Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield, is telling us this story
in the third person singular perspective. Our narrator is a non participant and we
learn no details about this person, from a physical sense. Nothing to tell us whether
it is a friend of Miss Brill, a relative, or just someone watching. Katherine Mansfield s
MissBrill comes alive from the descriptions we get from this anonymous person. The
narrator uses limited omniscience while telling us about this beautiful Sunday
afternoon. By this I mean the narrator has a great insight into Miss Brill s
perceptions, thoughts, feelings, and into her world as a whole, but no real insight

The details as told, seem to be coming directly from Miss Brill at times. The
narrator gets us settled into the park with Miss Brill and tells us that she sees those
around her as odd, silent, nearly all old, and from the way they stared they looked
as though they d just come from dark little rooms or even even cupboards! This
tells me that Miss Brill sees herself differently than she sees others, not odd or
funny. She is a part of all this life and activity at the park! An actor in the grand
play and somebody would have noticed if she hadn t been there. She really loved to
be out with others and thought that she was very much a part of the world and not
apart from it. Don t we all feel this way? Some people are truly introverted and care
little of interacting, but I think the majority of us strive to become part of the
world and at times feel like this life is one big drama and we have a big part. Our
role might only be important for one scene, but we feel like the leading man or
woman at times. The narrator leads us to what appears to be a fitting climax; a
crescendo of music and song, with all players involved. Miss Brill s dreams of this
were quickly shattered. The comments by the young people, Why does she come
here at all who wants her? Why doesn t she keep her silly mug at home? leaves
Miss Brill with the cold realization that she is in fact like the odd, old people that she

Mickey Mouse Monopoly appeals to pathos when they discuss Disney s influence

showing how sociological ideas presented in Disney films effect the cultural
development of children. This is really directed at parents and people who want to
be parents as it makes them think about all the issues Mickey Mouse Monopoly is
bringing to light. Justin Lewis, a university professor, points out that Disney is so
large and spread out globally, that its stories will be the stories that will form and
help form a child s imaginary world, all over the world, and that s an incredible
amount of power, enormous amount of power (Mickey Mouse Monopoly). He
continues to say that we should question what Disney is teaching and what children
are learning from their films. He uses rhetorical question to strengthen his point,
asking if these [are] the stories we really want our children to hear (Mickey Mouse
Monopoly). He brings to light that if those kinds of questions aren t being asked,
then people are allowing Disney to shape the imaginations of millions of children.
This really sets up the film s discussion on the influence Disney has on children. By

Kincaid s Use Of Language In A Small Place By Jamaica
Kincaid
It s hard to imagine someone s personal experience without actually being the one
enduring it; however, Jamaica Kincaid s use of language contests other wise.Through
intense imagery and emotional response, Jamaica Kincaid utilizes rhetorical appeals
such as logos, pathos, and ethos, which successfully convinces her audience by
creating a conversation between herself and the reader. Jamaica Kincaids A Small
Placeis an expression of her inner feelings on the transformation her hometown,
Antigua, and the everlasting postcolonial impact that occurs. Kincaid reacts to the
feelings she had as a young girl and compares that mindset to the opinions she holds
today as an adult. Kincaid s piece evaluates the foreignness, race, and power that
consumes Antigua. While she descriptively explains the circumstances she faced in
Antigua, Kincaid incorporates historical background which provides logical support
to her purpose. Notably, the author s first hand experiences gives her credibility,
ethos, and allows the audience to clearly understand the context from her
perspective. Not only does Kincaid effectively describe her experiences, but she also
makes her audience feel as though they are looking through her eyes. Her purpose
demonstrates the difficulty and impossibility of returning to origin after crucial
influences. A Small Place proves that the effects of racism and racial inequality are
long term and culture cannot simply return exactly how it once was in that specific
culture,

Strategic Planning
1. Appraise the formal planning efforts at the Copley Company for the period 1981
to 1984.
INTRODUCTION
Copley Manufacturing Company was primarily a manufacturer of a wide line of
cutting tools and related parts and supplies. Late in 1980, Mr. Sagan, director of
corporate development and Mr. Albert, executive vice president agreed that regular
formal planning should become part of management s way of life at Copley.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In 1981, Copley Manufacturing Company had begun formal corporatewide planning.
The formalized planning was ingrained into life at Copley through a series of visits
by corporate groups, planning review meetings, as well as planning response

1981
Generally, it was felt that the planning effort at Copley in 1981 had made a good
beginning because most agreed that the plans had provided useful information to aid
the top management to obtain better understanding on Copley s business activities.
DISCUSSION OF SITUATION IN 1982
In 1982, formal planning had been significantly affected by certain organizational
changes, such as the elevation of Mr. Albert to president, the creation of two
corporate staff functions, the further delegation of operating responsibility and the
segregation of the Cutting Tool Division.
In the same year, the planning committee decided to divide the formal planning cycle
into three phases, which were the Strategy Development phase, the Quantitative phase
and the Action phase.
The division s strategic plans were presented to corporate management by each
division in a planning review meeting and subsequently evaluated in a planning
response meeting (Lee Ke 2004). Unlike 1981, these meetings followed each other
on the same day in 1982.
In 1982, the progress of the planning efforts was disrupted by certain developments;
chief among them was the change in the top management. Besides that, considerable
management effort was also required to assimilate the recently

The development of every person is the journey from childhood to adulthood
through the challenging period of adolescence. This period leads to a great
transformation of the human body which also has a great effect on the
psychological state of a person. Such transformation of a unique intersex person is
discovered by Jeffrey Eugenides in his novel Middlesex that became a bestseller
and won a Pulitzer Prize. The author fills the novel with numerous autobiographic
details, whereas the work traces the story of a biological male who was raised as a girl
until the truth is revealed in the period of adolescence. I also have found a variety of
moments that resonate with my feelings and experiences of adolescence during
puberty that was still far from the hell Calliope faces. The example of the

first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1960; and
then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in

Review Of Hairspray By John Waters
From Grease to Rent, musical comedies have been known to enlighten viewers on
specific issues while keeping the context of the musical pleasurable and easy to enjoy.
The 2007 musical film Hairspray is a satire of Baltimore in the early 1960 s while
going through the Civil Rights movement. Through this romantic comedy, the agon
of African American civil rights and other power struggles among race gender, and

The 2007 play, Hairspray, is based off of a 2002 Broadway musical which was

be used today in an online environment to enable a firm to improve efficiency
regardless of whether mimicked by competitors, or may yield performance
impacts unique to a firm relative to its competitors. (Melville, Kraemer Gurbaxani
2004) A major factor in RBV and enhancing value creation better than a company s
competitors is that of competitive heterogeneity. This refers to enduring and
systematic performance differences among relatively close rivals. (Hoopes,
Madsen Walker, 2003) Resources are the tangible and intangible assets of a firm
that can be used in the value creation process and the RBV consists of six
conditions necessary for a firm to confer a sustainable competitive advantage
(Melville, Kraemer Gurbaxani 2004) and are as follows. A valuable resource can be
tangible and intangible; it is a
High School Confidential
High school in real life is full of surprises, but according to David Denby in his
article High School Confidential, High School in the movies is very predictable.
The typical Hollywood High School Scene opens with the jock and the cheerleader
characters. Blonde and buff, the Jock and the Cheerleader are superficial and
proud to proclaim it. They are popular and perky, and always too good to be true.
The cheerleader is usually the enemy of the hero or heroine. She is generally rich,
blonde, and queen bee of the social circle, with no sense of selflessness. The jock is
usually the bully, muscular, good looking and not very smart.(Denby 343) In an
essence, the male counterpart of the cheerleader. The Jock and the Cheerleader are

Violet is a pretty, popular, soccer player with an equally popular soccer player
boyfriend. However, Violet s world comes crashing down when the women s
soccer team is cut from her high school due to lack of funds. Violet in turn decided
to impersonate her twin brother Sebastian at her rival school so that she can tryout
for the male soccer team and show her now ex boyfriend that girls can play just as
well as boys. At her new high school she falls in love with her brother s roommate.
The problem is, he thinks she s a boy. Violet is not your typical movie heroine, in
the beginning of the movie she seemingly has everything a girl could want,
however her passion for soccer drives her to step outside the norm and prove
herself. Although the main character in this movie contradicts Denby s view of
teen movies, there are many other characters in the movie who fall directly in line
with Denby s theory. For example, Sebastian s girlfriend Monique is a typical
cheerleader type character. She has no regard for anyone s life but her own. Also,
Violet s divorced parents are completely unaware that their son Sebastian is in
London playing with a band, and their daughter Violet is impersonating him in
order to play soccer. In retrospect, Denby s views hold up in analysis. Occasionally
there is a movie or a character that steps outside Denby s stereotype, however most
teen movies are similar.
The, The Sold Out Ones, By Luis Valdez
Los Vendidos, which signifies the sold out ones, is a play that was correlated by
Luis Valdez and created by the Farm Workers Theater of Atzlan. They have built
their theater society with respect to the old show clubs that were common in the
striker s groups of the sixties and seventies. In these groups, performing artists and
performers would assume parts that would ridicule certain gatherings or people that
they were opposing. Case in point, if the produce pickers were striking against a
cultivator, then the play would draw out every generalization that individual put stock
in or each awful quality that that individual had and would decorate it. They would
make their focus out to be inept and uninformed. Los Vendidos finishes this errand
extremely well on the grounds that it demonstrates each generalization that Anglos
have against Mexican Americans, and places it in a manner that will make any
Anglo be embarrassed for having accepted such falsities. Everything that was put into
the play was put there for a reason, whether it is a real occurrence or a typical
generalization. The narrator before the play clarifies what the Theater Society of
Aztlan is about. The narrator is costumed as the Aztec sun god in an Aztec elevated
structure sanctuary. The range around the sun god was the old Aztec schedule. It
demonstrates that the Aztlans have a decent learning about their past. They are
pleased that they are from the territory that the Aztecs started from. The play
Equality Of Men And Women
Equality of men and women is a concept that is not as implemented as it should be.
There was a time in African history where women were well respected leaders in
society. However, that changed when the Europeans colonized the continent. The
Western ideals were thrusted upon African societies and patriarchal views became
the norm. The idea that women were inferior to men became a social construct.
Power belonged to men and women were expected to be dutiful wives whose most
important jobs were to have children. These ideals evolved as Africa grew and
made it the society it is today. Yet, other countries, including many in Europe, have
experienced women s rights movements of their own and women have succeeded
in gaining those rights; it has become apparent that Africa must do the same. The
problematic beliefs of African women regarding motherhood in the form of
expectations and rituals, as well as the patriarchal essence of marriage that Africa
abides to will be examined first. Then, the rise of awareness by African women of
these problematic beliefs will be discussed with relation to African literature. Buchi
Emecheta s The Joys of Motherhood (1979) will serve as a lens for African tradition
in terms of motherhood and marriage, specifically in Nigeria. The recognition of the
issues in African societies such as the controversial traditions surrounding
motherhood and marriage helps women in Africa raise awareness on the importance
of African feminism. In African

Remembrance In The Odyssey
As October is the month of remembrance, one can only make sure to make a
personal connection by first knowing what the word means. Remembrance means to
account what happened in the past as well as embracing the past for it shapes their
lives in present. As connections start to be made, people only know that most
ancient, classical books are filled with that theme of remembrance. As one spends
their time reading one of the most ancient and best epic poems of all time titled The
Odyssey by Homer, the theme of remembrance not only recounts the lives of the
Ancient Greeks, but also the history of Ancient Greece as a whole. The Odyssey
mostly centers on the protagonist, Odysseus, and his journey home after the Trojan
War, while facing many obstacles,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of remembrance is found in Book XVII, titled, The Beggar at the
Manor, when Odysseus, disguised as an old man recognizes a hound who also
recognized him who he raised as a puppy and is left in waste as it is dying from old
age. Homer describes this scene of recognition, writing, But when he knew he
heard Odysseus voice nearby, he did the best to wag his tail, nose down, with
flattened ears, having no strength to move nearer his master. And the man looked
away, wiping a salt tear from his cheek; but he hid this from Eumaios, (Book XVII,
lines 389 394). As this could be one of the most tear jerking moments when a man
is reunited with the once pup that he had raised, it is one of the happiest of
moments, for Odysseus had finally returned home to Ithaca. And what is even more
distressing, after the old hound sees his master, Odysseus, again and finally having
that satisfaction, he dies. Recognition falls within the theme of remembrance
because without realizing what a particular object or a specific person is, there
would be no opportunity to connect to an earlier period of their life. When someone
has to recognize, realize, and remember, it all comes down to the line, of thinking and
knowing their own

PROBLEM SITUATION #3
Peter s Peripherals assembles multimedia upgrade kits sets of components for adding
sound and video to desktop computers. The demand for their kits for the next four
quarters is estimated in the table below. Unit manufacturing cost for each kit is $160.
Holding costs on each kit is $80 per quarter. Any kit that must be delivered late is
assessed a backorder cost of $120. Each worker is capable of finishing 10 kits per
quarter. If the company chooses to vary work force levels, it will incur costs of $400
for each additional worker; $600 for each termination. The company currently has 28

Legalization Of Gay Adoption
Around last year one of the most controversial law was passed by the Supreme Court.
This law is legalizing gay marriage. There are a lot of mixed feeling between people
about this topic. Some people were very happy about gay marriage being legalized,
most of whom are gay. However, there are also a lot of people unhappy, and they
have some very good reasons on why to be angry. With gaymarriage, say the couple
wants a child so they adopt. The child that they adopt will not only be deprived of
his real parents, but he will also have the lack of both a mother and father role
model. The child will be raised by one party and they will lack the lessons the other
party could teach them. Gay marriage will hurt children with the way they are raised
The Storm by Kate Chopin
The first thing I noticed about Kate Chopin s The Storm, is that it is utterly
dripping with sexual imagery and symbolism. Our heroine, if you will, seems to be
a woman with normally restrained passions and a well defined sense of propriety,
who finds herself in a situation that tears down her restraint and reveals the vixen
within. I wonder if it was intentional that the name Calixta makes me think of
Calypso the nymph from Greek mythology. If half of the sexual symbolism I found
in this story was intentional, Chopin was a genius. I was quite taken with the sexual
imagery of the colors mentioned: white, and red. There is also mention a place called

It s no secret that storms bring a unique energy, something that is almost primal in
nature. Animals react to coming storms because of this energy, I once had a cat who
would pounce all over the house in the hours before a storm arrived, when the storm
hit, he would sprint from room to room, his tail bushed out like a bottle brush and
his pupils so large you couldn t see the iris. As the storm builds in its fervor and
ferocity, tension and passion build between Calixta and AlcГ©e to match. It begins
with the gusts of wind that threatened to snatch away the clothing that was outside,
hence AlcГ©e grabbing the trousers, and follows as the water beat in upon the
boards in driving sheets, then the rain beat upon the low, shingled roof with a
force and clatter that threatened to break an entrance (Chopin 336). The language
grows more telling in that just after there is mention of something threatening to
break an entrance, Chopin describes Calixta s bedroom. The fact that it adjoins the
room they re in is completely unnecessary, unless there s a reason for the reader to
be aware of the bedroom. As the storm rolls on, Calixta goes to the window where
she stands when the lightning bolt strikes a tree in the field. Lightning is a glorified
spark, I believe this symbolizes the spark of passion renewed in both of our adulterers
as the story
Reduce Debt
Real Ways to Reduce Debt
Things were looking up, your job was going well, your bank account was growing,
and your wardrobe was stylish. Then, the recession hit. You lost your job or had
your hours reduced, you had to borrow and use credit cards, and before you knew it
you were over your head in debt.
Millions of Americans can relate to the scenario above, and millions more can
relate to slight variations of it. Tens of millions of Americans have debt issues they
need to deal with, and for African American families the situation is even more dire,
since they are far more likely to have incurred high levels of revolving debt.
Here are 5 tried and true methods to reducing that debt and moving toward financial
freedom.
1. Know your debt. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Divide and Conquer. There are two main schools of thought on paying off debt.
One is to attack the debt with the largest interest rate since it costs the most money
to keep out there. The other is to choose the smallest debts first and start knockin
them off one by one. Each time you finish one, take the extra money and apply it
toward the next debt. Not only will you have less debt, but you will see and feel a
sense of accomplishment as your debt numbers drop.
4. Create a Budget. The Huffington Post suggests using the 50:30:20 budget rule .
The rule says fifty percent of your budget goes toward needs like housing, insurance,
and transportation. Thirty percent goes towards wants like clothing, services, and
entertainment, and twenty percent goes into savings. Unless you re in debt
elimination mode which requires you to save less and pay more.
5..Automate Payments. During your pre selected debt payment time, set up
automatic payments from an on line banking system. This way, you will not forget
to pay your bills. The danger is having a bill get paid when you forget to have
enough money in the account to pay it. Overdraft or insufficient balance fees can add

Software Developing For A Health Data Analytics System
Software Developing for a Health Data Analytics System This essay will demonstrate
the different stages and methods required to construct a software system for a health
care analytics system. This system must be able to take an input of patient s data and
be able to give an accurate output for the method of treatment, this will support an
expert s final decision. These real time systems are active knowledge systems, which
use two or more items of patient data to generate case specific advice. The
development of software is formulated in several stages this includes: Requirements,
software design, implementation, testing and integration and the operation and
maintenance. The first stage in developing this software is the requirements... Show

Other issues must be brought into consideration such as: How large will the
networked system be? Who will use the system? Many questions like these must
be addressed to collect information about how we will answer these questions we
can investigate the current system using multiple collection methods. A
questionnaire could be produced to quiz current staff about how effective the
current system s features are, and we could ask for the flaws in the current system
to ensure the new health care analytics system fixes these problems. Another
method of investigation is to look at staff logs and work patterns so we can adapt
our system around how the doctors work. From all of the information we collect
from monitoring the users we must collate this to form a specification so that the
developers of the system know what guidelines to work from. This will prevent
any mistakes from being made and give a foundation for the structure of the
system, more technical details such as the processing power and the network
speeds will also need to be determined to find the correct hardware required so the
company can be cost efficient. The next stage in the process is the software design
phase, this is the part of the development where the software s structure will be
created in many aspects, here we will draw out the network and decide whether it
will be a LAN (Local area network) or a WAN (Wide area network) this depends on
if this system will be used over different branches of
Legalization Essay
The legalization of marijuana
The Legalization of Marijuana
For the last fifty or so years it has been a crime to possess, consume, or distribute
marijuana. Any rapid change in legislation toward legalization would be impossible
in today s culture. Due mostly to the overwhelming popularity of this drug it could
never possibly be legalized. Any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With no legal restraints on the flow of this drug huge legal quantities would always
be available to who ever wanted to use it. This constant availability would encourage
over use and reckless use. Social productivity would probably be affected. It is still
under debate weather or not marijuana affects performance, but any new change in
lifestyle (such as drug use) has been linked to drastic changes in lifestyle.
New users would also be overwhelmed by their use. Every aspect of their lives would
be affected, both positive and negative changes would occur. The adjustment to the
new changes would cause the new user to make changes in their lives, and this
adjustment might be just as detrimental to them as the use of the marijuana.
It is a widely known fact that marijuana is the number one cash crop in America. If
marijuana were legalized many people would seize the opportunity to profit from its
distribution. Marijuana would become exploited by modern society. Unless the
government were to regulate marijuana transactions large corporations would make
enormous amounts of money. Like the cigarette industry, advertisements would lure
potential users and clutter our visual environment with useless slogans and catch
phrases with seductive models scantly clad with marijuana associated apparel.
If the government were to regulate marijuana society would never be completely

  • 2. Judgment Papers Judgment Paper To be a leader, one must have many qualities. Most people believe that leaders have qualities that determine if they are a good or bad leader, such as being smart, punctual, sociable, and charismatic. These traits are all very important to a leader, but the novel, Judgment, by Noel M. Tichy and Warren G. Bennis explain that the most important quality to a leader is their ability to make good decisions. Tichy and Bennis write Judgment to clarify what is really important in a leader and what leadershipreally means. Judgment is extremely important in a leader. Tichy and Bennis make sure to emphasize that leaders MUST make good judgment calls because in business, the only thing that matters is the results, not the process.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tichy and Bennis explain that there are three different domains that leaders must essentially make decisions on. The first and most important domain is people judgment calls. It is the most important because it has the most potential of being fatal if a wrong judgment call is made. Also, if the wrong people are chosen for a team, then there is a high possibility for the strategy not to be executed and for crises to be handled poorly. So, the first and foremost actions that need to be done are to figure out who should and should not be on the team. A good leader needs to know how to choose team members because they are responsible in recognize[ing] the need, fram[ing] the issue, and mobiliz[ing] and align[ing] the parties who can provide the information and advice needed to make a good call (Tichy and Bennis 88). This is extremely difficult because the leader must evaluate each person based on what they know. Also, people are not objects and so a leader may become attached and that will impair the leader s judgment and will lead to failure. A good scenario for people judgment calls would be A. G. Lafley who worked for P G. Lafley came into P G with a plan. He wanted to make sure the company changed for the better. But to make this change, he did what I believe is one of the hardest aspects of the people judgment calls. He had more than half of the top thirty executives leave or do another project because they were not as good as they

Inflation presents a problem for the FED achieving it s goal of price stability. Inflation is unavoidable as far as the natural progression of an economy is concerned. Supply and demand also affect inflation. While the FED cannot control supply and demand of a product, I would suggest that they try to control price stability by creating regulations of what a company can charge related to the supply and value of a product. Changes in reserve requirements and the discount rate affect the operations of banks and other depository institutions by changing the amount of actual funding that they have available to them. If they are required to hold more actual money, they may have less financial instruments such as gold to back up the value of the money. If the discount rate fluctuates, banks may have to adjust interest rates on their loans to compensate for the money they are gaining or losing. 4.Explain why the FED cannot set intermediate targets in terms of both monetary aggregates and interest rates. The FED can only pursue one target at any given time. For example, if they are targeting interest rates, exchange rates will fluctuate and vice versa. The FED s influence over real interest rates is weaker than that of nominal interest rates and stabilizing the economy is more important than stabilizing interest rates. 5.Update the case information by using at least two (2) data sources in addition to the text. Modern monetary policy does not involve gold as much as it used to in the past. In 1968, the United States reneged on it s guarantee to pay in gold and effectively removed itself

The strength of graphical passwords comes from the fact that users can recall and recognize pictures more than words. Most graphical passwords are vulnerable for shoulder surfing attacks, where an attacker can observe or record the legitimate user s graphical password by camera. Token based systems such as ATMs are widely applied in banking systems and in laboratories entrances as a mean of authentication. However, Smart cards or tokens are vulnerable to loss or theft. Critical Reflection Anyone can turn his weaknesses into strengths , I was reading the book David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell, and the book was about a battle between David, the underdog, and Goliath, the giant, and it explains how David defeated a giant by using his unconventional strategies. It also talks about how some underdogs can overcome their weaknesses; in addition, it also explains how power comes in different forms. Malcolm Gladwell proved his arguments by providing some real life experiences of different underdogs. According to Gladwell, an underdog is a person who is underestimated by everyone to perform any task successfully. Malcolm Gladwell also explains many other terms to prove his argument. I have experiences in my student life where I felt like an underdog. I felt disempowered because of my weaknesses. I still remember the first day of my English 838 class at College of San Mateo, and I felt so unconfident in the classroom because I was not a native speaker. People would flock to these healing temples because they believed that all of their illnesses would be cured. Greek physicians also believed in using magic and rituals and cure patients of sickness. In Greece, medicine and religion were strongly tied together. Hippocrates , known as the father of medicine wanted to separate medicine from the divine. He began to question patients to properly help them. Hippocrates would ask patients how they felt, he would check their symptoms and then diagnosis and treat them. He influenced our world of modern medicine because this is how physicians today treat patients. He also introduced case studies, which was the first step in modern medicine. Greeks also used various herbs to treat illness. Anise, a flowering plant, was used to help relieve women of menstrual cramps. Black hellebore was used to help treat paralysis and gout. Greeks also believed that we were made out of substances known as the four humors; sanguine (blood), choleric (yellow bile) , melancholic (black bile) and phlegmatic (phlegm). Greeks believed that if you were healthy, that was because your four humors were balanced. If you had too much of one humor, you would be unbalanced and you would feel ill. The Bandwagon effect is explained as showing many people using a product, implying that everyone is using it. Timing is related to the success of a message because it is not always what the message conveys but rather it depends on the time it s delivered. The association technique aims to connect a service, product, or idea with something already desired by the target audience, such as, security, fun, beauty, success, or wealth. The media message does not make it explicit that the viewer will receive these things but the association is implied. The campaign utilizes controversial and comedic celebrities to draw the attention of the younger generation. This is an example bandwagon effect at work. Although summer may still be necessary for some families, year round school provides an opportunity to accommodate both sides: year round schooling shortens the summer break in order to maintain retention rates, however it still does allow for a summer break for students to aid their families for harvesting their crops or taking family vacations. It is simply in a more practical and manageable timeframe. For those students not involved in rural work, there is the matter of childcare over the summer. The typical option is summer camps. The American Camp Association has established quite a presence against year round schooling due to the conflict it poses with their schedules (Opheim 399). Yet there is a solution available with year round schooling. Having summer break cut in half will have the children inside learning in school, which cuts ridiculously expensive childcare costs and concerns for parents. Summer camps will still be an option, but they would have to conform to the children s schedules. There will also be the possible option for several camps to occur should alternative schedules be chosen for an overcrowded school. As uncomfortable as change can be, it will all be made in the name of furthering education. Year round schooling gives an equal time duration of breaks over the winter and summer. This allows for more family time to be spent for those who do still have to work over the summer on farms.

Kincaid s Use Of Language In A Small Place By Jamaica Kincaid It s hard to imagine someone s personal experience without actually being the one enduring it; however, Jamaica Kincaid s use of language contests other wise.Through intense imagery and emotional response, Jamaica Kincaid utilizes rhetorical appeals such as logos, pathos, and ethos, which successfully convinces her audience by creating a conversation between herself and the reader. Jamaica Kincaids A Small Placeis an expression of her inner feelings on the transformation her hometown, Antigua, and the everlasting postcolonial impact that occurs. Kincaid reacts to the feelings she had as a young girl and compares that mindset to the opinions she holds today as an adult. Kincaid s piece evaluates the foreignness, race, and power that consumes Antigua. While she descriptively explains the circumstances she faced in Antigua, Kincaid incorporates historical background which provides logical support to her purpose. Notably, the author s first hand experiences gives her credibility, ethos, and allows the audience to clearly understand the context from her perspective. Not only does Kincaid effectively describe her experiences, but she also makes her audience feel as though they are looking through her eyes. Her purpose demonstrates the difficulty and impossibility of returning to origin after crucial influences. A Small Place proves that the effects of racism and racial inequality are long term and culture cannot simply return exactly how it once was in that specific culture,

  • 34. Strategic Planning Essay Strategic Planning 1. Appraise the formal planning efforts at the Copley Company for the period 1981 to 1984. INTRODUCTION Copley Manufacturing Company was primarily a manufacturer of a wide line of cutting tools and related parts and supplies. Late in 1980, Mr. Sagan, director of corporate development and Mr. Albert, executive vice president agreed that regular formal planning should become part of management s way of life at Copley. COMMENTS AND PROBABLE REASONS IN 1981 Generally, it was felt that the planning effort at Copley in 1981 had made a good beginning because most agreed that the plans had provided useful information to aid the top management to obtain better understanding on Copley s business activities. DISCUSSION OF SITUATION IN 1982 In 1982, formal planning had been significantly affected by certain organizational changes, such as the elevation of Mr. Albert to president, the creation of two corporate staff functions, the further delegation of operating responsibility and the segregation of the Cutting Tool Division. In the same year, the planning committee decided to divide the formal planning cycle into three phases, which were the Strategy Development phase, the Quantitative phase and the Action phase. The division s strategic plans were presented to corporate management by each division in a planning review meeting and subsequently evaluated in a planning response meeting (Lee Ke 2004). Unlike 1981, these meetings followed each other on the same day in 1982. In 1982, the progress of the planning efforts was disrupted by certain developments; chief among them was the change in the top management. Besides that, considerable management effort was also required to assimilate the recently
  • 35. Review Of Middlesex That Became A Bestseller And Won A... The development of every person is the journey from childhood to adulthood through the challenging period of adolescence. This period leads to a great transformation of the human body which also has a great effect on the psychological state of a person. Such transformation of a unique intersex person is discovered by Jeffrey Eugenides in his novel Middlesex that became a bestseller and won a Pulitzer Prize. The author fills the novel with numerous autobiographic details, whereas the work traces the story of a biological male who was raised as a girl until the truth is revealed in the period of adolescence. I also have found a variety of moments that resonate with my feelings and experiences of adolescence during puberty that was still far from the hell Calliope faces. The example of the transformation illustrated by Eugenides in Middlesex can be viewed as a change that any person goes through, but that is much more radical in its effect. The main character is introduced in the following first lines of the novel; I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of 1974 (Eugenides 8). The rebirth of the main character that is performed in adolescent age is one of the most crucial themes of the novel. Until the age of fourteen, Calliope was a girl, and despite how she faced her differences from the rest of the girls, she did not suggest

Through this romantic comedy, the agon of African American civil rights and other power struggles among race gender, and class are depicted through certain comic techniques to keep the musical lighthearted but meaningful. The 2007 play, Hairspray, is based off of a 2002 Broadway musical which was ultimately based off the 1988 comedy film by John Watersalso named Hairspray. It begins in 1962 just before the Civil Rights movements took place. Violet is not your typical movie heroine, in the beginning of the movie she seemingly has everything a girl could want, however her passion for soccer drives her to step outside the norm and prove herself. Although the main character in this movie contradicts Denby s view of teen movies, there are many other characters in the movie who fall directly in line with Denby s theory. For example, Sebastian s girlfriend Monique is a typical cheerleader type character. She has no regard for anyone s life but her own. Also, Violet s divorced parents are completely unaware that their son Sebastian is in London playing with a band, and their daughter Violet is impersonating him in order to play soccer. In retrospect, Denby s views hold up in analysis. Occasionally there is a movie or a character that steps outside Denby s stereotype, however most teen movies are similar.

They have built their theater society with respect to the old show clubs that were common in the striker s groups of the sixties and seventies. In these groups, performing artists and performers would assume parts that would ridicule certain gatherings or people that they were opposing. Case in point, if the produce pickers were striking against a cultivator, then the play would draw out every generalization that individual put stock in or each awful quality that that individual had and would decorate it. They would make their focus out to be inept and uninformed. Los Vendidos finishes this errand extremely well on the grounds that it demonstrates each generalization that Anglos have against Mexican Americans, and places it in a manner that will make any Anglo be embarrassed for having accepted such falsities. Everything that was put into the play was put there for a reason, whether it is a real occurrence or a typical generalization. The narrator before the play clarifies what the Theater Society of Aztlan is about. The narrator is costumed as the Aztec sun god in an Aztec elevated structure sanctuary. The range around the sun god was the old Aztec schedule. It demonstrates that the Aztlans have a decent learning about their past. They are pleased that they are from the territory that the Aztecs started from. The play
  • 42. Equality Of Men And Women Equality of men and women is a concept that is not as implemented as it should be. There was a time in African history where women were well respected leaders in society. However, that changed when the Europeans colonized the continent. The Western ideals were thrusted upon African societies and patriarchal views became the norm. The idea that women were inferior to men became a social construct. Power belonged to men and women were expected to be dutiful wives whose most important jobs were to have children. These ideals evolved as Africa grew and made it the society it is today. Yet, other countries, including many in Europe, have experienced women s rights movements of their own and women have succeeded in gaining those rights; it has become apparent that Africa must do the same. The problematic beliefs of African women regarding motherhood in the form of expectations and rituals, as well as the patriarchal essence of marriage that Africa abides to will be examined first. Then, the rise of awareness by African women of these problematic beliefs will be discussed with relation to African literature. Buchi Emecheta s The Joys of Motherhood (1979) will serve as a lens for African tradition in terms of motherhood and marriage, specifically in Nigeria. The recognition of the issues in African societies such as the controversial traditions surrounding motherhood and marriage helps women in Africa raise awareness on the importance of African feminism. Remembrance means to account what happened in the past as well as embracing the past for it shapes their lives in present. As connections start to be made, people only know that most ancient, classical books are filled with that theme of remembrance. As one spends their time reading one of the most ancient and best epic poems of all time titled The Odyssey by Homer, the theme of remembrance not only recounts the lives of the Ancient Greeks, but also the history of Ancient Greece as a whole. The Odyssey mostly centers on the protagonist, Odysseus, and his journey home after the Trojan War, while facing many obstacles,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of remembrance is found in Book XVII, titled, The Beggar at the Manor, when Odysseus, disguised as an old man recognizes a hound who also recognized him who he raised as a puppy and is left in waste as it is dying from old age. Homer describes this scene of recognition, writing, But when he knew he heard Odysseus voice nearby, he did the best to wag his tail, nose down, with flattened ears, having no strength to move nearer his master. And the man looked away, wiping a salt tear from his cheek; but he hid this from Eumaios, (Book XVII, lines 389 394). As this could be one of the most tear jerking moments when a man is reunited with the once pup that he had raised, it is one of the happiest of moments, for Odysseus had finally returned home to Ithaca. And what is even more distressing, after the old hound sees his master, Odysseus, again and finally having that satisfaction, he dies. Recognition falls within the theme of remembrance because without realizing what a particular object or a specific person is, there would be no opportunity to connect to an earlier period of their life. When someone has to recognize, realize, and remember, it all comes down to the line, of thinking and knowing their own

Our heroine, if you will, seems to be a woman with normally restrained passions and a well defined sense of propriety, who finds herself in a situation that tears down her restraint and reveals the vixen within. I wonder if it was intentional that the name Calixta makes me think of Calypso the nymph from Greek mythology. If half of the sexual symbolism I found in this story was intentional, Chopin was a genius. I was quite taken with the sexual imagery of the colors mentioned: white, and red. The fact that it adjoins the room they re in is completely unnecessary, unless there s a reason for the reader to be aware of the bedroom. As the storm rolls on, Calixta goes to the window where she stands when the lightning bolt strikes a tree in the field.
