a) One of the trends that are occurring in the hotel industry is the increase in construction in
certain pipelines and areas. The Spanish influenced countries of Latin America and South America
are seeing the largest increase. The increased interest in the Hispanic culture by society is driving
many consumers to want to escape to the sandy beaches and the tropical oasis. The other trend is
the decrease in the African and the Middle Eastern Pipelines. Much of this can be contributed to
the political unrest in these countries that is covered by the media. While many still want to go on

Kingdom Of Benin Essay
Unusually for a European country the Portuguese, the first nation to reach Benin s shores, were
not interested in colonising the Kingdom of Benin, wishing instead to establish trade links with
the Oba (the title of the reigning monarch) trading opulent items and firearms for pepper, ivory
and palm oil. Portugal only had a small population and the idea of an overseas empire was not a
popular one. The European visitors were willingly enmeshed into the folklore regarding Olokun,
god of the sea and earthly wealth, as they had travelled over the sea to get to the west coast of Africa
. The Portuguese were impressed with the well organised and highly civilised urban centre similar
to those in Europe, as were the Dutch after them who likened the size... Show more content on

He carries a flintlock musket and a long sword, weapons strange to this new land. Portuguese
mercenaries along with muskets and crossbows helped the Oba extend and maintain his borders.
Modern versions of these weapons were used by the Edo and Yoruba in their stand against the
Imperial British power which resulted in the British launching a punitive expedition against Benin
in 1897. British officials (Vice Consul James Robert Phillips and Captain Gallwey) pushed for the
annexation of the territory, this resulted in the massacre of the British army presence there, which
in turn resulted in the destruction of Benin in 1897, led by Rear Admiral Harry

Goals For Swimming Research Paper
If you could chose between swimming and running, what would you chose? The key is that
swimming encompasses much more that just doing laps in a pool. It is going out in the ocean and
exploring shipwrecks and coral reefs. It is playing water polo with a group of friends on holiday or
just having fun messing around in the water. Swimmingis important because it allows me to
actively participate in physical activities by being enjoyable, makes me want to continue physical
activity so I can maintain a healthy body, and allows me to establish goals for my future by
challenging me. First, swimming is important because it allows me to actively participate in

I like to swim because I ignore what everyone else is doing and focus on myself. The times of
other swimmers and their form compared to mine is not important because what matters to me
is that I challenge myself and improve. Because of this, I set a goal for myself, and then take
baby steps to reach that goal. An example of this is when I was training to become a certified
scuba diver. At first, I was not the best at swimming because I never really learned how to do it
properly. I took baby steps to achieving my goal of certification, and it started with learning
proper form for the flutter kick. I worked with my instructor and had it done within a day. Then, I
moved on to doing the flutter kick with flippers. I did that, and then moved on to doing that with
the scuba gear on. This took about two days to get down, but I was able to get certified after I
had finished that. This is just an example, and a goal that I am working towards right now in my
life is improving the balance of strength in my muscles. The right side of my body is stronger
than my left side so I am going swimming at the local YMCA in order to help make my body
more balanced. This goal arose from me wanting to challenge myself because when I am
swimming, it doesn t matter what kind of shape I am in, I can still improve upon it. To summarize,
swimming is important because it allows me to

Rick Ames And His Crimes Against The CIA
Aldrich Rick Ames was born in River Falls, Wisconsin on June 26th, 1941. Like most children,
his childhood did not reveal a disposition for betrayal and apathy, but rather held promise. I chose
to learn about Ames and his crimes against the CIA because of the relationship he had with both
them and the KGB. The CIA is frequently described as becoming another family for the men and
women operating within its power. Ames however, not only forsaked the agency s secrets to the
KGB, but continued to work for both agencies without hesitation. None of his colleagues, nor the
the CIA s effort to protect the nation as a whole held value for him. What s more startling than the
fact that Rick doesn t regret what he s done, is the that the close knit

Anthony Burgess and A Clockwork Orange
Imagine existing in a world run by sadistic and insane street gangs who reek havoc on innocent
civilians, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Anthony Burgess created this world
through his novel, A Clockwork Orange. Anthony Burgess was born in 1917 and died in 1963. A
lot of social changes occurred during this period of time, such as: the roaring twenties, prohibition,
the Great Depression, World War II, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and many more. Burgess not only
lived through those changes, but also helped influences some social changes in literature and music.

Burgess also served in the British army during World War II as the musical director of a special
services unit. He was also an education officer in Malaya and Brunel, where he studied nine
languages and wrote several novels. In 1954 he became a senior lecturer in English at Teachers
Training College, Khata Baru. There he found his true vocation. , said journalist Colin Covert in
one of his reviews of Anthony Burgess.
William Shakespeare primarily inspired Burgess s writing and the great composer, Ludwig van
Beethoven, was the main inspiration for his musical career. Anthony loved to travel to different
countries and study their language and culters, which he incorporated into his many works. He was
greatly influenced by James Joyce, a 20th century Irish novelist and poet, to write his first novel, A
Vision of Battlement. Traveling and teaching English around the world, particularly Malaya ad
Brunel, influenced the way he wrote. His experiences in World War II, and his day to day life
observing the street gangs around the world, influenced what he wrote about. Collin Burrow, of
the London Review of Books, once described Burgess as a, 1960 s sideboard writer. His range was
improbable.
The genres of Burgess s works were historical fiction, philosophical, satire, epics, spy fiction,
horror, travel literature, biography, and autobiography. Burgess s vision has been described as bleak
and pessimistic but

The Parody Of The White Man s Burden
In early 1899, near the beginning of the Philippine American war, Rudyard Kipling wrote his
highly controversial poem, The White Man s Burden. As the title suggests, Kipling wrote this
piece to explain the hardships that come with having captives. Also, a few months later an
editorial piece was written in order to explain the underlying meaning of the poem.
Unsurprisingly, The White Man s Burden started an uproar and received many responses,
notably one titled The Black Man s Burden. This piece is essentially a parody written to expose
the privilege of the original. First of all, the The White Man s Burden is privileged before
anything else. For example, Go send your sons to exile/ To serve your captives need... Kipling saw
it as the inherent burden of white men to send their sons to take over other countries, or as T.
Thomas Fortune stated in the editorial, it s the white man s burden is the voluntary and violent
assumption of sovereignty over black and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a parody, the goal of this piece is to delegitimize its predecessor. Specifically, the poem mocks
the idea that white imperialists are burdened. For example, Hail ye your fearless armies,/ Which
menace feeble folks. The author then explains that the natives use bows and arrows and are no
match for the invader s rifles. It is also worth noting that the clergyman repeated pile on the
Black Man s Burden, which is most certainly a jab at Take on the White Man s Burden. In
comparison, pile on has a much more cumbersome connotation, while take on is not cumbersome
at all and is actually voluntary. Keeping with the idea of the voluntarism of imperialism, T.
Thomas Fortune spoke of a similar theme in his editorial, Nobody has asked the white races to rob
and enslave the black and yellow races of earth, thus imperialism is

A New Approach to Art
A NEW APPROACH I continue to get further away from the usual artists tools; easel, palette,
brushes. I prefer sticks, trowels, knives and dripping fluid paint. My feeling is new needs need
new techniques. It seems to me the modern painter cannot express this age the airplane, the atom
bomb, the radio in the old forms of the Renaissance or any other past culture. Jackson Pollock
(1950) It is apparent from the quote mentioned above that Art has undergone rapid transformation
from the 20th century. Everything had been declared a fair game. Almost anything and
everything was considered as art. 20th century art had played a pivotal role in defying
conventions. Besides this art was no longer restricted to things that looked aesthetically appealing
but was far beyond that. Artworks were no longer perceived as static objects with a singular
meaning. Artists challenged the very old definition of art by adding or rather including a lot more
to it. Art was no longer restricted to something that is visually appealing but also to something that
addressed a variety of issues. They believed in using art as a platform in representing or addressing
multiple socio political, cultural and community based issues. Also, their work expanded far
beyond the institutional confines of the gallery or museum space. Artists have now produced a
variety of works whose meaning cannot be understood otherwise because their context is very
crucial to the piece of art. Many times the collection

Obsidian Energy is a gas and oil producer of energy. It is located in Calgary, Canada. The
company showed increasingly exciting growth in the third quarter of the last year. The CEO
David French recently addressed the wells that were discovered in the Rocky Mountains of
Western Canada. In that comment, Finch added that there are three million acres of land included
in that region. This is encouraging news for the energy community. Obsidian Energy had begun
exploration in the area just this past year. The results of that exploration have been promising. So
afar three wells have been created that have produced 2,000 barrels of product per day. This equals
60 barrels of energy in the form of oil each day. That has far exceeded the expectation

Most people might say that middle children are the go getters in the world . One might even be
able argue that it s fact, using famous middle children Bill Gates, Princess Diana, and Martin

The Importance Of Religious Freedoms In The United States
It is often stated throughout this great country that we have a right to religious freedoms. Are these
freedoms only available if they fit inside a certain box or guidelines? Often times in our country
today we see individuals who are constantly claiming their right to religious freedoms. And often
times they are denied those freedoms by the interpretation of various laws. The First Amendment of
the United States of America Constitution clearly gives us our religious freedom above and beyond
all created laws. This leads to the fact that all laws should abide by the First Amendment. The First
Amendment of the U.S. Constitution clearly states Congress shall make no law respecting an

Yes, that s right businesses. What religious freedom does is that it fosters respect by protecting
something that more than eight in ten people worldwide, 84 percent according to a recent Pew
Research study, identify with a religious faith , (Grim, 2014), encourages peace, develops an
economy, which in turn can reduce corruption. In turn religious freedoms also encourages
broader freedoms that can contribute to positive economic development. Many argue that social
development requires the removal of sources of un freedom and restrictions on religions in such
countries like Saudi Arabia and Dubai. Religious freedom also helps with the development of an
economy when religious groups are free to operate in a competitive environment religion can
play a role in major social development of countries. (Grim, 2014) Religious freedoms also
encourage multiples of trust for instance clothing retailer Abercrombie Fitch fought and lost a
religious discrimination case in 2013 related to firing a Muslim stock girl for wearing a scarf in
violation of the company s dress code. The case resulted not only in substantial legal costs but also
negative national publicity. Respect for reasonable accommodation of religious freedom in the
workplace can improve employee morale, increase retention of valued employees, and help with
conflict resolution. Moreover, businesses may gain a competitive advantage by engaging
stakeholder expectations that are increasingly demanding that companies play a positive role in
addressing environmental, social and governance challenges. (Grim,

Oil Companies And Economic Power
Oil Companies and Economic Power
Introduction
In the modern world energy has become very important since it helps drive most industrial as
well as home based activities. The process that leads to production of the world s largest energy
provider, Oil, however has continued to receive criticism. This is so since production of
Gasoline, Natural Gas, Kerosene as well as other components present in crude oil leads to some
forms of environmental pollution. This has led to devastating climatic changes around the world
which has in turn led to loss of lives and property. In the course of transporting crude oil to
refinery stations, cases of oil spillages into oceans and other water bodies occur. The result is

Oil companies operate in defined regions where oil exploration and possible drilling is done.
However some companies such as Shell BP engage in international drilling and distribution of oil
products. Below are some of the most renowned oil companies in their constituent continents:
Africa: Sasol of South of South Africa and National Petroleum Company of Congo. In Asia some
of the leading oil companies include Nobel Group and the Bahrain Oil Company. It is important
to note that Asia has a lot of oil resources and hence have extensive oil drilling activities. In
Europe we have Partex oil and Gas Company, in South America three is Bridas Corporation
based in Argentina. North America has one of the most advanced technology in the oil industry.
These companies have extended their activities around the globe in a bid to discover more oil
resources to sustain future energy requirements. Some North America companies include Shell
Oil Company and the Apache Corporation. This paper will focus on the importance of oil
companies over and above the problems that they pose to the environment as well as the political
stability of the world. For practical examples I chose to use the state of Alaska where oil
companies have based their operations as a case study.

The boy in striped pyjamas by John Boyne is a world war two novel centered around a very unique
child named Bruno. Who s naivety and childhood innocence led to his death.
Throughout the book, Bruno displays childhood innocence. We first see Bruno s childhood
innocence when he is called into his Father s office to discuss why his family is moving away from
their lovely home in Berlin. After their conversation, Bruno begins to leave the room when he
turns around and salutes his Father before saying Hale Hitler . This shows childhood innocence
as Bruno believes that the phrase Hale Hitler is a nicety or greeting whereas it is a way of
worshipping a horrid dictator.
Bruno continues to display childhood innocence during the middle of the book.

Defining Macbeth in William Shakespeare s Play Essay
Defining Macbeth in William Shakespeare s Play
The character of Macbeth is a classic example of a Shakespearean tragic hero. There are many
factors, which contribute to the degeneration of Macbeth of which three will be discussed. The
three points, which contribute greatly to Macbeth s degeneration, are the prophecies, which were
told to him by the witches, Lady Macbeth s influence and manipulation of Macbeth s judgment, and
finally Macbeth s long time ambition which drove his desire to be king. Under these influences
Macbeth s character degenerates from a noble, brave, loyal man to violent, murdering, tyrant

Will I with wine and wassail, so convince ,

Macbeth is in struggle with his conscience but is goaded by Lady Macbeth to proceed with the

I dare do all that may become a man;
Who dares do more, is none
As soon as Macbeth has performed the treasonous deed he immediately regrets his wrongdoing. At
this point of the play the audience can note the change in Macbeth s character. Macbeth s first
murder was a trying experience for him, however after the first murder; killing seemed to be the
only solution to maintain his reign of the people of Scotland. Therefore, it was Lady Macbeth who
introduced the concept of murder to Macbeth as the shortest way to obtain the crown that was

Footwear also known as shoes was invented to protect a person s foot while doing various activities,
primarily created for functional and practical use. However, shoe design has constantly evolved
throughout history and from culture to culture. The notion of complementing your outfit with the
perfect shoehas been the impetus of design and many styles of shoes; such as high heels, flats and
sneakers. Modern footwearvaries widely in design, comfortability and cost. Nike is a

costs Nike a little over $16 to make a pair. Yet, Air Jordan s are priced at anywhere between $100 to
$600 a pair, depending on the style and color.
The pricing strategy for this brand is value based. The selling price is determined not by the cost
of the goods, but by the status that buyers think they are valued. Consumers measure the quality
of Air Jordan s by the quality of Michael Jordan s skillful tactics on the basketball courts and are
willing to pay a pretty penny to be like Mike, hence their well known motto I want to be, I want
to be like Mike. Statically, the value based price strategy is effective for this brand because Air

Digital Technology Effects
Digital Technology and The Effects on Human Health Nicholas Reott Kaplan University CM
107: College Composition I Professor Lee August 15, 2017 Digital Technology and the Effects
on Human Health In this growing and advanced society, modern technology can ultimately play a
significant role in advancing our chosen professions. Presently, the world has been made much
more accessible by modern technology. It is now possible to stay in constant contact with
everyone around and work in areas that were unimaginable just a few short years ago. However,
the constant use of this technology comes at a cost. Increased use of digital technology and current
exposure to electronic fields coming from wi fi and other digital devices such as laptops,
cellphones, and iPads can negatively affect humans mental and emotional health as well as social

In August 1994, a Lufthansa flight from

African American Athletes s Influence On Society
Over the past 50 years, the views on African American basketball players by society has
dramatically changed. As African Americans have gained rights, athletes have continued to
influence society. Since then, the influence these star players have had on society has become
overwhelming. African American basketballplayers have gone from being quarantined from the
league, to becoming children s icons. African Americans players were forced to create their own
leagues and teams in order to play professionally. As a result of this, the world famous Harlem
Globetrotterswere created. The Globetrotters still have a lasting impact on society up to this
date. During the 1950s, when African Americans began to enter the NBA, white players feared
they would be harmful to the league. In the 1970s, just after the ABA and NBA merger, the NBA
nearly ended as a result of the lack of fan interest. White fans disliked the black game and
emerging black stars. In just a ten year period, the views towards these dominant players
completely changed, as players like Magic Johnson and Michael Jordancompletely revolutionized
the game. These stars forced the public to watch the games, and appreciate these players. In
addition to transforming the league, the views towards African Americans by the rest of society
changed as well as a result of these players. Along the way on this arduous journey, African
Americans successfully transformed American culture and had an everlasting impact on society.

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Abnormal Psychology
According to Cherry (2016), abnormal psychology is a branch within psychology that focuses on
behaviour that is unusual and not deemed as normal within society. This branch of psychology is
composed of a variety of disorders and their causes as well as possible management and/or
treatment. With this in mind and within this assignment, I will discuss the causes of abnormal
behaviour, discuss the causes and symptoms of mood disorder as well as discuss the background
and importance of Sigmund Freud.
Section One The Causes of Abnormal Psychology
With the above understanding of the branch that is abnormal psychology, it is important to look at
the causes or reasons as to why unusual, that which is beyond the norm of what behaviour is ...

Biological make up and genetics could also play a part in causing an individual to display
abnormal behaviour. It is believed that the disorders that are found within abnormal psychology
are as a result of the genetic make up of the individual, for example as a result of a brain defect.
Although some disorders can be characterised by genetic defects, it is not possible that these
defects can be pin pointed as the sole cause.
(Fincham et al, 2005: 317)
Attachment and security serve as further causes of abnormal psychology. As above, the
attachment model of psychopathology also places emphasis on the relationship between the
parent and child but, rather than focusing on the perceptions of the child, there is a focus on the
characteristics of the actual relationship. It is believed that if a parent does not provide a feeling
of security, trust and love then the child will develop a negative view and, thus, result in an
inability to regulate emotions and feelings. As a result, the child will be at a greater risk of
developing a disorder.
(Fincham et al, 2005: 317)
Distorted can be defined as selectively changing or not completely representing true reality. With
this definition in mind, distorted thinking can most certainly be deemed as a cause of abnormal
psychology. Thinking in a distorted manner can allow an individual to expect the worst and
exasperate on negativity and pessimistic ways.

Pros And Cons Of Water Privatization
Rocky Santana
Period 3

The Bad Effects of The Privatization of Water The privatization of water has its pros and cons,
like the quality going down to save money, and like the poor not being able to get access to clean
water. Massive layoffs could happen so the company could save money, this makes them under
staffed. Rate increase can also occur in the company to increase profits. Water privatizationin my
opinion, has the cons out weighing the pros in the argument on whether it is good for the public,
and the company itself. To talk about the privatization, first you have to know what it is.
Privatization is the process of transferring the control of an enterprise from the government sector to
the private sector (giving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to impossible and costly to buy those right back from the company. Once again, the company s
goal is to get profit from this. The community would be putting their trust in that company to
provide safe clean water. Doing so with privatization also will lead to massive layoffs since the
companies want to make the most money that they can. Again, since the company could be under

Critical Analysis Of Binsey Poplars By Gerard Manley...
Right now, many forests are being relentlessly decimated in order to meet our needs. In the poem
Binsey Poplars written by Gerard Manley Hopkins in 1879, the speaker considers this issue while
lamenting over the destruction of a line of poplar trees. In this essay, I will argue that the poem
shows mankind s own fragility through the felling of the trees because of the speaker s emphasis on
the contrast between nature and its destruction and the way nature and humans are associated with
the use of imagery and figurative language. I will first examine the poem s sorrowful tone and the
way the text s content opposes nature s beauty and its deforestation caused by humans. Then, I will
analyze how the poem s form support this opposition through... Show more content on

The speaker uses this event to expand his view on the way mankind destroys nature without
meaning to. In the second and third stanzas, we are actually blamed for this irreversible damage,
as seen in O if we but knew what we do / When we delve or hew (9 10) and To mend her we end
her (16). By using the first person plural pronoun, the speaker includes not only themselves, but
also the reader, who is also a human being, and in a general sense, part of mankind. However,
humans are not only the agent of destruction, but the object of it as well. For instance, the
repetition of the letter l in All felled, felled, are all felled (3) may form a visual representation of
a line of trees, or a line of people. Moreover, there is a personification of nature throughout the
poem; according to the speaker, nature is a woman, as said in Since country is so tender / To
touch, her being so slender (12 13) and To mend her we end her (17). Whereas there are some
neutral correlations between human beings and the natural world, they are also linked through
the pain and damage that is inflicted to them. Hack rack (11) are originally aimed at the growing
green (11). However, those verbs are associated to prick (15) and sleek (14) as well due to the
consonance of the sound ck . As a consequence of that association, the sleek and seeing ball (14),
the human eye (15), feels the brutality of the tree felling,

only do many people use social media these days, but we could use social media to incorporate
some of the traditional media styles. For example, we could use Facebook to get a video out

Genetic Diversity In America
Genetic diversity is the variation of heritable characteristics in genetic makeup present in a
population of the same species i.e. variation in the nucleotides, genes, chromosomes, or whole
genomes of organisms. The species with greater genetic diversity has a chance of long time
survival. Knowledge of diversity in a germplasm is very important for the improvement of crop
plants through breeding program (Hallauer and Miranda Filho 1988). Assessment of genetic
diversity is essential to understand the relationship among and within the landraces, as well as their
genetic structure. It is also valuable for setting priorities for genetic conservation, parental selection
and as a source of favorable traits.
(Ferriol, Pico et al. 2004) analysed 47 accessions of C. moschata featuring the morphological
characters which revealed considerable variability, comparable to that found in different C.
moschata centers of diversity. Molecular analysis through AFLP (amplified fragment length
polymorphism) markers which analyze neutral genetic diversity and SRAP (sequence related
amplified polymorphism) markers, which amplify gene regions both showed a genetic diversity in
accordance with the morphological variability. With both markers clustered the genotypes
according to their geographical origin: Central America, South America, and Spain, which

Analysis Of Sir Bedivere And Le Morte DArthur
Knights in Medieval times were highly regarded by others; they were expected to be chivalrous
and embody the knightly virtues. The ideal knight was merciful, honorable, and noble. These three
important virtues of a knight were clearly embodied by Sir Lancelot in Le Morte d Arthur by Sir
Thomas Malory. Sir Lancelotoutshined Sir Bedivere, Sir Modred, and King Arthuras a knight
because he expressed the knightly virtues more than the others. Sir Lancelot proved to be merciful,
honorable, and noble through his words and actions and the words and actions of other knights.
Therefore, Sir Lancelot is the most virtuous knight because he greatly embodies mercy, honor, and
nobility. While King Arthur seems to never show mercy to his opponents, Sir Lancelot proves from
the beginning of Le Morte d Arthur that he is merciful. It is clear that in battles, Sir Lancelot values
the code of chivalry, leading to him showing mercy to his opponents. In an encounter with Sir
Gawain, Gawain continually antagonizes Sir Lancelot. He responds to Sir Gawain s threats by
saying Sir Gawain, I have once spared your life... (Malory 131). Sir Lancelot was merciful
towards Sir Gawain by not killing him during their first encounter. The fact that Sir Gawain
continually insulted him made it increasingly harder for Sir Lancelot to show him mercy, yet he
was still able to compose himself. Even in the face of his own death, Sir Lancelot was able to
show Sir Gawain mercy. By doing so, he continued to risk his own life. In contrast to Sir
Lancelot, King Arthur was not merciful towards his opponents, even when they were his own
son. During a final battle against Sir Modred and his army, King Arthur saw all the casualties of
his own men. One of his knights, Sir Lucas, begged Arthur to spare Modred and wait until a later
time to battle him. In spite of these pleas, King Arthur stated I care nothing for my life now! And
while Sir Modred is at large I must kill him: there may not be another chance (Malory 310 311).
King Arthur was determined, no matter the outcome, to kill Sir Modred. He ignored his knight s
pleas and showed no mercy to Modred. His desire to kill Modred was unwavering and his mind
could not be changed. In contrast to Sir Lancelot,

Melendez s influence on the themes in Anderson s work is not as apparent as the visuals. In
Anderson s films, however, the adolescent (either real or behaviorally) creator, while handled
sympathetically, is also called out for his... destructive and exclusive behavior and must learn
both to adapt and to assimilate, at least partially (Orgeron, 2007). This theme can be seen
repeatedly in Anderson s work in Suzy and Sam running away from home (and eventually being
found) in Moonrise Kingdom, and in Max s expulsion and subsequent enrollment in public school
in Rushmore. In his book Wes Anderson: Why his Movies Matter, Mark Browning asserts that,
Charlie Brown is quite different from most Anderson heroes, who lack his more realistic self

Electoral College Importance
The Electoral College has the job of officially electing the United States President. After the popular
vote is counted by each state, the electors will then cast their vote. Electors are apportioned to each
state and the District of Columbia. The Electoral College system was established in the constitution
by the Founding Fathers. This system forms the very beginning and basis of the United States
national electionsand is; therefore, important to this country s history. It is made up of 538
members and a candidate must receive a majority of 270 electoral votes to win the election. The
Electoral College was great when it was first introduced because voters did not have the advanced
technology that we have today. They were not able to learn enough about the candidates to truly
know which one to vote for. The electors on the other hand were slightly more educated than the
average American and their job was to learn about these candidates so they could make the smart
decision and represent their state well when it came time. Voters now have the access to education,
television, radio, the internet, and newspapers to learn about their potential president. This clearly
shows that the Electoral College is less useful to our nation than it used to be. The people in our
world today want to be well represented and have their vote actually count, but with this system still
in use they are not getting their full representation.

Sex And The City Of Rome Essay
Sex. It s the taboo. We don t like to talk about it because it makes us uncomfortable, but when
analyzed, it can tell us so much about a society, their core values, and the ideals that controlled
their society. Though the saying is doing it like the Greeks when talking about something
perceived explicit and raunchy, Rome had quiet the culture of sexual back and forth as the Greeks
once had, and that Western culture experiences today. Sex and the city of Rome had complicated
lines of what was acceptable and what was not. Through research, the concept of purity, of both the
free roman bloodline, and the purity of the roles of males and females, serves as a guiding concept
when analyzing what is acceptable and not in ancient Rome. Pudicitia is the core value in Roman
sex culture, and in all cases it is clear that the purity of Roman women, men, and free born bloodline
is the utmost concern.
Both girls and men, however particularly girls, were imagined to uphold pudicitia, a fancy virtue
that will be translated as restraint or chastity. A girl with a high degree of pudicitia, that is, a
univira or one man lady, would ask for above all to seem modest and to limit her social interaction
with men apart from her husband and male relatives. At a similar time, a single lady didn t suffer
stigma; within the higher categories, it had been common and even expected for a single or

subheadings read Inside: War, poverty, and genocide. The way the headline and subheadings are
organized allows us to draw parallels to real world issues. The newspaper in the comic supports the
idea that the citizens of the Western nations are mainly focused on entertainment and the media and

There is a speech bubble coming from the man saying It s a game? referring to hunger and the
Hunger Games headline. We as a developed country feel entertained at the Hunger Games when
less fortunate people like the refugee in the drawing actually face these issues in reality. The
man in the comic can also be compared to a skeleton or dead body. He possesses a cadaver like
skull and extremely bony limbs. He appears extremely malnourished and you can make the
inference that his clothing is loose because of the weight he lost from not consuming the nutrients
needed to be healthy. We can infer that this man is living in a refugee camp because of the sign in
the background and also because of the tent in the image. He may not be receiving the food he needs
because we have an understanding of how poor the living conditions can be in these refugee
camps. There also appears to be

The Gender Issue Of The British Educational System...
Gender is a word used to identify the differences between males and females. Educational theory
and provisions over the years was defined by gender, meaning that depending on your gender your
educational needs were outlined for you, as compared to modern day were all genders receive the
same education in Britain. Karen Bradley notes that historically, debates surrounding women s
educationhave focused on what has been characterised as the competing demands of the private
sphere of the family. (K Bradley 2002) in this essay I will discuss how the genderissue in the British
educational system influenced the educational theory and provisions. This will include looking

It would have been encouraged for women to not receive as a high of level of education because
men were seem to need it more than women, leading to women up to the 19th century not being
able to read or write. Rousseau makes a very interesting point in terms of how education differs
for men and women men and women are made for each other, but their mutual dependences differ
in degree, hence her education must, in this respect, be different from a man s education.
(Rousseau 1742). This notion from 1742 is still a widely accepted and recognised intake on the
dependences of males and females and how this effects there type of education. Jude Giles
interesting agrees with Rousseau stating that Working class women defined themselves not only in
terms of their gender but also in terms of their difference from and antagonism to other social
classes. (Jude Giles 2002)
In the 19th century women began to gain greater opportunities for employment. This century
saw the introduction of education for most working class girls; although females were
encouraged to play music and take cookery classes, it was clear to see a major breakthrough had
been made. Within the work force big changed were also made in order to make life safer for
children but also equal which had not been the case in previous centuries. In 1842 a law was

from it. You always have to make decisions in your life, Anh. And don t kid yourself; when you
don t decide, that s a decision This quote teaches us that you hold, the key to your future and that
deciding whether or not to go and grab that opportunity or to just be complacency it s completely
your choose. The example when Anh goes onto the stage and convince his school why he
should become school captain is a great example of going out of your comfort zone or personal
bubble. Even though Anh doesn t become school captain he gains something that means a lot
more, self confidence and courage these are things that change who you are! Anh now realises
that if you lose and fail, but you still celebrate coming second because you ve given it a red hot go.

Word Count: 1544 words (excluding headings and subheadings)
Hello Lagertha,
Below is the memorandum for the negligence action regarding our client, Mr. Ragnarr Loobrok. To
succeed in a claim of negligence, it must be proven that, on the balance of probabilities, that a duty
of care was owed by the State of Victoria to prevent him from getting arrested once his bail
conditions had been formally changed.
Was a duty of care owed by The State Of Victoria upon Mr. Ragnarr Loobrok to prevent economic
loss due to loss of opportunity?

Ragnarr, must prove to the court that due to the states negligent actions he will consequently
experience economic loss. Causation refers to whether the defendants conduct (or omission), in
this case The State Of Victoria, caused the resulting harm or damage. The common law of
negligence obliges instigation of causation for the purposefulness of attaching legal
accountability. Another element that must be proven is that it is applicable for the scope of the
negligent persons liability to extend to the harm so caused (scope of liability ). As it is a case of
negligence the onus of proving, on the balance of probabilities, is weighed upon our client, the
plaintiff Mr. Ragnarr. Even if the but for test is applied to the current situation in the case, the
outcome would be that the loss suffered by the plaintiff would have only occurred if the defendant
acted negligently, which they did, and therefore if they hadn t have acted in that way, then our
client would not have been publicly humiliated by the State Of Victoria as a result. The court must
deliberate whether it is suitable to extend the scope of the defendant negligence to the harm caused
to the plaintiff and our client, Mr. Ragnarr. The harm that occurred, or similar harm, must have
been foreseeable in order for it to reach within the scope of liability upon the

Social Media Anxiety
The Relationship of Social Media and Social Anxiety The ever growing world of social media is
a network of sites and websites designs to have individuals share pictures and ideas will all their
friends instantly. The popularity of these sites bursted right out of the gates and are used by
billions of people every day. While such sites may appear harmless, these interactive platforms are
causing an immense rise in social anxiety. These social networks are actually damaging the mental
health of many users. Over fifteen million people in the United States are diagnosed with social
anxiety, and in today s world the number of causes linked to social media is on the rise. Most of
these cases are in individuals starting at thirteen, but the ages rage significantly. According to The
American Association of Depression and Anxiety social anxiety can be defined as, The extreme fear
of being scrutinized and judged by others in social or performance situations. This type of anxiety
is closely linked with feeling of loneliness; and this loneliness only intensifies the feelings of
anxiety and paranoia. Social paranoia stems from the fear rejection. These individuals are terrified
they will humiliate or embarrass themselves, so they simply withdraw. This specificity type of
anxiety interferes significantly with daily routines, occupational performance, or social life, making
it difficult to complete school, interview and get a job, create true friendships and romantic
relationships.

Chance in Philosophy Essay
Chance in Philosophy
Boethius The Consolation of Philosophy demonstrates many thoughts and ideas that Boethius had
while he was imprisoned at Ravenna. Boethius wrote of his conversations with lady Philosophy,
who came to help cure him during his sentence. Throughout the book, she explained (or reminded)
Boethius of many things such as the nature of power and the nature of fame. Many things that she
explains in the beginning of the book can be summed together with the thought that God governs
everything. God, though not the afterlife, is a very important theme in The Consolation of
Philosophy . One part of this theme that I have looked at is whether God orders the world totally, or
there is chance in our lives. Boethius explained, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, because someone at some time buried the treasure, does that mean one was meant to find it?
Yes, I believe that someone was meant to find it, and it is that person s chance that led him or
her to do so. However, in quot; The Consolation of Philosophy quot;, the idea is that there is no
chance in Gods point of view; that God has a supreme knowledge of everything, and things do
not seem to be chance to him because he may foresee their occurrence. It is implied that God
created the world and the order that it stands in, and that he knows everything that will ever
happen to us. So, how is it, then, that we have free will if God already knows what will happen to
us? Does he choose our destiny, or do we shape it ourselves?
I believe that while God may know our destinies, we do shape them ourselves. It is possible for
God to know our destinies because he knows the future. However, the future in God s perspective
is not really the future per se, it is just a depiction of sequence of things rather than a moment of
occurrence. In the book, Philosophy explains that quot;It is not necessary, they say, that what is
foreseen must happen, but it is necessary that what is destined to happen must be foreseen. quot;
(p. __) This may help explain the idea that even though God knows something, it does not mean
that he chose it. I believe that we do have free will in our lives. We can

Define Worldview And What Happens To A Human Being
INTRODUCTION Waking up in the morning thinking about why, how, when and what is the
importance of the world we live in and the interactions with others mean to us. Defining worldview
is essentially a commitment, a fundamental orientation of the heart, that can be expressed as a story
or in a set of presuppositions that we hold about the basic constitution of reality, and that provides
the foundation on which we live and move and have our being (Sire, 2016).On the other hand
spirituality holds the essence of our existenceon this earth. Spirituality makes someone feel the
connection to something. This is where our beliefs comes in. It depends on which religionyou
belong to, to define spirituality better. Spirituality is the wellspring of divinity that pulsates, dances,
and flows as the source and essence of every soul.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Believing that God created man in His own image is what I believe. Some people view the human
being as a highly complex machine, a sleeping god, a person made in the image of God, a naked
ape (Sire, 2016, p12). Whatever people believe, God is the answer to this question and they is no
doubt that God created a human being.
What Happens to a Person at Death? Most religions do not believe life after death. Most of them
believe in incarnation. But as a Christian, I believe they is heaven and hell. If you are living right
with God, your soul goes back to heaven but if not, you go hell. As the bible says in Revelation
20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the
beast and the false prophet [are], and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever (King
James Bible, 2016, p.6).
Why is it Possible to Know Anything at All? You understanding about the existence of God and
the world depends on what you believe. As bible talks about the creation of the world and that
God exists is what I have been taught and know since I was

As far as the appearance of the two restaurants being similar, the food is different. The appearance
of the building gives various aspects about the quality of the food. The waiters at El Ranchero

table no matter how many times they go to the same table. When customers go to El Ranchero they
get their menu at the front desk, and the waiter walk them to their table, and then bring them an

Research Paper On Anna Pavlova
How did a seven year old girl go from being a ballet enthusiast to one of the greatest ballerinas of
all time whose influences are still so evidently felt today? Anna Pavlova is a famous Russian
ballerina who is best known for introducing and popularizing ballet around the world, defying the
traditional expectations of ballerinas and her contribution to the modern pointe shoe. Her love for
classical ballet, determination, perseverance, and elegance stole the hearts of people around the
world.
At the age of eight Anna Pavlova, born in St. Petersburg, Russia, on 31 January 1881, was
amazed by the performance of The Sleeping Beauty at the Mariinsky Theater and was thereafter
determined on becoming a professional ballerina. Despite not having the ideal, strong, muscular
and compact figure of a ballerina at the time, Pavlova was accepted into the Imperial Ballet School
in 1891. Pavlova attracted the attention from her teachers and at the annual graduation
performance in 1899, it was announced that Pavlova, after graduating, would join the Imperial
Ballet at the Mariinsky Theatre. Pavlova, with her grace, talent and work ethic, rose through the
ranks quickly, she was named coryphГ©e in 1902, premiГЁre danseuse in 1905, and finally, after
her extraordinary performance in Giselle, she was promoted to prima ballerina in 1906.
With her strong stage presence, Pavlova stole the hearts of many across the world, who called
themselves the Pavlovitzi. One such person was Michel Fokine,

The Effect Of A Light Ray Reflecting
This lab is made up of four different parts. In the first part we will examine the effects of a light
ray reflecting at different angles of incident from a convex, flat, and convex mirror. In the second
part a light ray will be refracted through a rhombus prism at different angles of incidence. We will
measure the angles using a protractor. For the third experiment we will examine the indices of
colors as light is refracted through the rhombus. Lastly, we will use polar lens to examine Brewster
s angleand polarization.
THEORY
PART A: REFLECTION
When a light ray hits a point on a plane mirror surface (called the incidence ray), it bounces off that
same point and thus changes the course in which it is traveling. An angle of incidence can be
obtained by measuring the angle between the ray of incidence and a line normal to the surface of
the mirror. The angle of the reflected ray can also be obtained in the same way by measuring the
angle between the reflected ray and the line normal to the surface. Measuring the two angles we
can see that they are the same angle thus confirming the law of reflection: О r=О i.Eq.1
PART B: REFRACTION
Refraction is caused when a ray of light travels through different mediums. When the light crosses
through the material it causes the light to bend or refract because the wave does not enter the
medium at

Crop varieties/advanced lines will be planted at seeding densities and row spacing typical for
organic small grain production in the NGP. Within each plot shortly after crop emergence, three 1
x 1 m subplots will be established that contain 1) Crop only 2) Weeds only and 3) Crops + Weeds.
Emergence timing of crops and weeds will be noted. At critical crop growth stages (tillering, flag
leaf, and physiological maturity) crop plants will be evaluated for height, leaf blade width, and
tiller number. At physiological maturity, crown projection biomass of crops and weeds will be
sampled. Using a ceptometer, leaf area index will be assessed at these critical crop stages in weed
free subplots. At physiological crop maturity of the crop, the subplots will be harvested. Crop
and weed plants will be separated by species and counted, then dried to determine plant biomass
and crop yield. By comparing weed biomass and density between Weed only and Crop + Weed
plots, crop weed suppressive ability will be quantified. By comparing crop yield between the Crop
only and Crop + Weed plots, crop tolerance to weeds will be quantified. These experiments will be
conducted during years 2 and 3 (2019 and 2020) of this project.
Data analysis: For each variety and location, we will calculate variety competitiveness as:

Evaluation Of An Extraverted Feeler With Sensing Strengths
After taking the MBTI assessment, I learned that I am ESFJ, other wise known as an extraverted
feeler with sensing strengths. Extraversion means people who tend to focus on the outer world of
people and things. Sensing tends to focus on the present and concrete information. Feeling tends to
be based primarily on values and on subjective evaluation of personcentered concerns. Finally,
judging tendto like a planned and organized approach to like and prefer to have things settled. My
dominant strength is feeling and being able to help other people. With feeling being my biggest
strength, we are best when responsible for winning peoples cooperation with personal caring and
practical help. By reading on ESFJ, I found out that I am sociable, orderly, opinioned,
conscientious and realistic. All of these definitions fit my personality perfectly and really define
who I am. An ESFJ has many amazing qualities and one of them is the ability to radiate
sympathy. They tend to concern themselves with the people around them and value harmonious
people. Being harmonious is really big for an ESFJ because they find value in other peoples
opinions and feel everyone needs to be heard. They want to live in a harmonious life so avoid
conflict. The strengths ESFJ s have could go on forever, but a huge strength is compassion. Their
compassion and awareness of physical conditions often attracts them to health professions where
they can provide warmth, comfort, and patient caring. Therefore,

Kingdom Of Benin Essay Unusually for a European country the Portuguese, the first nation to reach Benin s shores, were not interested in colonising the Kingdom of Benin, wishing instead to establish trade links with the Oba (the title of the reigning monarch) trading opulent items and firearms for pepper, ivory and palm oil. Portugal only had a small population and the idea of an overseas empire was not a popular one. The European visitors were willingly enmeshed into the folklore regarding Olokun, god of the sea and earthly wealth, as they had travelled over the sea to get to the west coast of Africa . The Portuguese were impressed with the well organised and highly civilised urban centre similar to those in Europe, as were the Dutch after them who likened the size... • 7. Goals For Swimming Research Paper If you could chose between swimming and running, what would you chose? The key is that swimming encompasses much more that just doing laps in a pool. It is going out in the ocean and exploring shipwrecks and coral reefs. It is playing water polo with a group of friends on holiday or just having fun messing around in the water. Swimmingis important because it allows me to actively participate in physical activities by being enjoyable, makes me want to continue physical activity so I can maintain a healthy body, and allows me to establish goals for my future by challenging me. First, swimming is important because it allows me to actively participate in activities. This is because swimming can be enjoyable and that makes me want to swim.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I like to swim because I ignore what everyone else is doing and focus on myself. The times of other swimmers and their form compared to mine is not important because what matters to me is that I challenge myself and improve. Because of this, I set a goal for myself, and then take baby steps to reach that goal. An example of this is when I was training to become a certified scuba diver. At first, I was not the best at swimming because I never really learned how to do it properly. I took baby steps to achieving my goal of certification, and it started with learning proper form for the flutter kick. I worked with my instructor and had it done within a day. Then, I moved on to doing the flutter kick with flippers. I did that, and then moved on to doing that with the scuba gear on. This took about two days to get down, but I was able to get certified after I had finished that. This is just an example, and a goal that I am working towards right now in my life is improving the balance of strength in my muscles. The right side of my body is stronger than my left side so I am going swimming at the local YMCA in order to help make my body more balanced. This goal arose from me wanting to challenge myself because when I am swimming, it doesn t matter what kind of shape I am in, I can still improve upon it. William Shakespeare primarily inspired Burgess s writing and the great composer, Ludwig van Beethoven, was the main inspiration for his musical career. Anthony loved to travel to different countries and study their language and culters, which he incorporated into his many works. • 10. The Parody Of The White Man s Burden In early 1899, near the beginning of the Philippine American war, Rudyard Kipling wrote his highly controversial poem, The White Man s Burden. As the title suggests, Kipling wrote this piece to explain the hardships that come with having captives. Also, a few months later an editorial piece was written in order to explain the underlying meaning of the poem. Unsurprisingly, The White Man s Burden started an uproar and received many responses, notably one titled The Black Man s Burden. This piece is essentially a parody written to expose the privilege of the original. First of all, the The White Man s Burden is privileged before anything else. For example, Go send your sons to exile/ To serve your captives need... Kipling saw it as the inherent burden of white men to send their sons to take over other countries, or as T. It is also worth noting that the clergyman repeated pile on the Black Man s Burden, which is most certainly a jab at Take on the White Man s Burden. In comparison, pile on has a much more cumbersome connotation, while take on is not cumbersome at all and is actually voluntary. Keeping with the idea of the voluntarism of imperialism, T. Thomas Fortune spoke of a similar theme in his editorial, Nobody has asked the white races to rob and enslave the black and yellow races of earth, thus imperialism is ... • 11. A New Approach to Art A NEW APPROACH I continue to get further away from the usual artists tools; easel, palette, brushes. I prefer sticks, trowels, knives and dripping fluid paint. My feeling is new needs need new techniques. It seems to me the modern painter cannot express this age the airplane, the atom bomb, the radio in the old forms of the Renaissance or any other past culture. Jackson Pollock (1950) It is apparent from the quote mentioned above that Art has undergone rapid transformation from the 20th century. Everything had been declared a fair game. Almost anything and everything was considered as art. 20th century art had played a pivotal role in defying conventions. Besides this art was no longer restricted to things that looked aesthetically appealing but was far beyond that. Artworks were no longer perceived as static objects with a singular meaning. Artists challenged the very old definition of art by adding or rather including a lot more to it. Art was no longer restricted to something that is visually appealing but also to something that addressed a variety of issues. They believed in using art as a platform in representing or addressing multiple socio political, cultural and community based issues. Also, their work expanded far beyond the institutional confines of the gallery or museum space. Artists have now produced a variety of works whose meaning cannot be understood otherwise because their context is very crucial to the piece of art. Many times the collection ... And often times they are denied those freedoms by the interpretation of various laws. The First Amendment of the United States of America Constitution clearly gives us our religious freedom above and beyond all created laws. There are many factors, which contribute to the degeneration of Macbeth of which three will be discussed. The three points, which contribute greatly to Macbeth s degeneration, are the prophecies, which were told to him by the witches, Lady Macbeth s influence and manipulation of Macbeth s judgment, and finally Macbeth s long time ambition which drove his desire to be king. Under these influences Macbeth s character degenerates from a noble, brave, loyal man to violent, murdering, tyrant individual. The prophecies, told by the witches, were one of the factors, which ... Presently, the world has been made much more accessible by modern technology. It is now possible to stay in constant contact with everyone around and work in areas that were unimaginable just a few short years ago. However, the constant use of this technology comes at a cost. Increased use of digital technology and current exposure to electronic fields coming from wi fi and other digital devices such as laptops, cellphones, and iPads can negatively affect humans mental and emotional health as well as social interaction skills; many of the increased health problems suffered these days are also the result of an inappropriate use of medical technology. It is believed that the disorders that are found within abnormal psychology are as a result of the genetic make up of the individual, for example as a result of a brain defect. Although some disorders can be characterised by genetic defects, it is not possible that these defects can be pin pointed as the sole cause. (Fincham et al, 2005: 317) Attachment and security serve as further causes of abnormal psychology. As above, the attachment model of psychopathology also places emphasis on the relationship between the parent and child but, rather than focusing on the perceptions of the child, there is a focus on the characteristics of the actual relationship. It is believed that if a parent does not provide a feeling of security, trust and love then the child will develop a negative view and, thus, result in an inability to regulate emotions and feelings. As a result, the child will be at a greater risk of developing a disorder. (Fincham et al, 2005: 317) Distorted can be defined as selectively changing or not completely representing true reality. In the poem Binsey Poplars written by Gerard Manley Hopkins in 1879, the speaker considers this issue while lamenting over the destruction of a line of poplar trees. In this essay, I will argue that the poem shows mankind s own fragility through the felling of the trees because of the speaker s emphasis on the contrast between nature and its destruction and the way nature and humans are associated with the use of imagery and figurative language. In the second and third stanzas, we are actually blamed for this irreversible damage, as seen in O if we but knew what we do / When we delve or hew (9 10) and To mend her we end her (16). By using the first person plural pronoun, the speaker includes not only themselves, but also the reader, who is also a human being, and in a general sense, part of mankind. However, humans are not only the agent of destruction, but the object of it as well. For instance, the repetition of the letter l in All felled, felled, are all felled (3) may form a visual representation of a line of trees, or a line of people. Moreover, there is a personification of nature throughout the poem; according to the speaker, nature is a woman, as said in Since country is so tender / To touch, her being so slender (12 13) and To mend her we end her (17). Genetic Diversity In America Genetic diversity is the variation of heritable characteristics in genetic makeup present in a population of the same species i.e. variation in the nucleotides, genes, chromosomes, or whole genomes of organisms. The species with greater genetic diversity has a chance of long time survival. Knowledge of diversity in a germplasm is very important for the improvement of crop plants through breeding program (Hallauer and Miranda Filho 1988). Assessment of genetic diversity is essential to understand the relationship among and within the landraces, as well as their genetic structure. The ideal knight was merciful, honorable, and noble. These three important virtues of a knight were clearly embodied by Sir Lancelot in Le Morte d Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory. Sir Lancelot proved to be merciful, honorable, and noble through his words and actions and the words and actions of other knights. Therefore, Sir Lancelot is the most virtuous knight because he greatly embodies mercy, honor, and nobility. While King Arthur seems to never show mercy to his opponents, Sir Lancelot proves from the beginning of Le Morte d Arthur that he is merciful. It is clear that in battles, Sir Lancelot values the code of chivalry, leading to him showing mercy to his opponents. In an encounter with Sir Gawain, Gawain continually antagonizes Sir Lancelot. He responds to Sir Gawain s threats by saying Sir Gawain, I have once spared your life... (Malory 131). Sir Lancelot was merciful towards Sir Gawain by not killing him during their first encounter. The fact that Sir Gawain continually insulted him made it increasingly harder for Sir Lancelot to show him mercy, yet he was still able to compose himself. Even in the face of his own death, Sir Lancelot was able to show Sir Gawain mercy. By doing so, he continued to risk his own life. In contrast to Sir Lancelot, King Arthur was not merciful towards his opponents, even when they were his own son. During a final battle against Sir Modred and his army, King Arthur saw all the casualties of his own men. One of his knights, Sir Lucas, begged Arthur to spare Modred and wait until a later time to battle him. In spite of these pleas, King Arthur stated I care nothing for my life now! For example, the man featured in the illustration is holding a newspaper with the main headline saying HUNGER GAMES GROSSES $155M OPENING. The subheadings read Inside: War, poverty, and genocide. Many things that she explains in the beginning of the book can be summed together with the thought that God governs everything. So, because someone at some time buried the treasure, does that mean one was meant to find it? Yes, I believe that someone was meant to find it, and it is that person s chance that led him or her to do so. However, in quot; The Consolation of Philosophy quot;, the idea is that there is no chance in Gods point of view; that God has a supreme knowledge of everything, and things do not seem to be chance to him because he may foresee their occurrence. It is implied that God created the world and the order that it stands in, and that he knows everything that will ever happen to us. So, how is it, then, that we have free will if God already knows what will happen to us? Does he choose our destiny, or do we shape it ourselves? I believe that while God may know our destinies, we do shape them ourselves. It is possible for God to know our destinies because he knows the future. However, the future in God s perspective is not really the future per se, it is just a depiction of sequence of things rather than a moment of occurrence. In the book, Philosophy explains that quot;It is not necessary, they say, that what is foreseen must happen, but it is necessary that what is destined to happen must be foreseen. quot; (p. __) This may help explain the idea that even though God knows something, it does not mean that he chose it. In the first part we will examine the effects of a light ray reflecting at different angles of incident from a convex, flat, and convex mirror. In the second part a light ray will be refracted through a rhombus prism at different angles of incidence. We will measure the angles using a protractor. For the third experiment we will examine the indices of colors as light is refracted through the rhombus. Lastly, we will use polar lens to examine Brewster s angleand polarization. THEORY PART A: REFLECTION When a light ray hits a point on a plane mirror surface (called the incidence ray), it bounces off that same point and thus changes the course in which it is traveling. An angle of incidence can be obtained by measuring the angle between the ray of incidence and a line normal to the surface of the mirror. The angle of the reflected ray can also be obtained in the same way by measuring the angle between the reflected ray and the line normal to the surface. Measuring the two angles we can see that they are the same angle thus confirming the law of reflection: О r=О i.Eq.1 PART B: REFRACTION Refraction is caused when a ray of light travels through different mediums. Feeling tends to be based primarily on values and on subjective evaluation of personcentered concerns. Finally, judging tendto like a planned and organized approach to like and prefer to have things settled. My dominant strength is feeling and being able to help other people.
