Health Promotion Issues
As a health care provider our first response always set the tone for a return on a consequence.
Furthermore, as health care professional analyzing health care issues revolve around understanding
the problem, implementing an intervention, and applying a solution. The World Health
Organization states healthpromotion helps reduce excess mortality, address the leading risk factors
and underlying determinants of health, helps strengthen sustainable health systems, and places
heath at the center of the broad development agenda. Analyzing issues is a reactor to deciphering
through disparities and understanding who is involved and how it will affect the community.

Differentiation Strategy Of Zara
Differentiation strategy
A differentiation strategy seeks to provide products or services that offer benefit that are different
from those of competitors and that are widely valued by buyers. (Johnson, Scholes Whittington,
2008). The aim of using differentiation strategy is to achieve competitive advantage. This could be
achieved for example like the clothing brand ZARA, by offering better products at the same price.
A differentiation strategy must be based on two key factors: the strategic customers, the company
has to identify their needs and values, company also must identify who are its main competitors.
Product differentiation
It is a marketing concept which was first proposed by Edward Chamberlin in 1933, in the Theory
on Monopolistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A company s image can be described as the overall perception of the company. ZARA s business
idea is to in an international market offer high quality goods to a low price. ZARA s main
competitors are H M, GAP, and Mango, in Georgia manager thinks that the main competitor is
Massimo Dutti. By positioning themselves in the market, they are affecting the consumer s
perception of the company. ZARA s main competitors have similar market positions, they target
the same customers and have similar business ideas. There are some factors that make ZARA
stand out as more exclusive. As the manager at ZARA in Georgia mentioned the clothes are not
mass produced and products that do not sell well are taken away from store. The collection is
changed every second week. This makes the products stand out as more unique in comparison to
H M products which are mass produced. This also makes the customer more willing to buy the
product immediately instead of thinking and reflecting on whether to buy or not. In the store you
can also get the feeling of exclusivity, as the manager in Georgia mentioned there is a lot of space
between the clothes and the store is bright and the personnel is wearing all

Hillside Strangler Case Solution
The Hillside Strangler was the name given to two killers who strangled and killed their victims,
dumping their bodies in the hills of Los Angeles. These killings took place during October 1977
and February 1978, involving ten young women ranging from ages 12 to 28. With over one
hundred law enforcement task force members working to solve this case, the fear within the
community was undeniably present. It wasn t long before the clues would come in one by one,
helping detectives solve this heinous crime. Once two sets of DNA was revealed on the crime
scenes, policerealized they had not just one, but two killers. The killers were later discovered to
be cousins Kenneth Alessio Bianchi and Angelo Anthony Buono. Kenneth Bianchi was born in
Rochester, New York to a prostitute mother and was given up for adoption when he was born.
His upbringing was normal, but he was known to be a pathological liar. He had a fantasy about
joining the police force, but when he applied both in New York and Los Angeles, he was rejected.
In 1975 Bianchi decided to move to Los Angeles to stay with his role model and older cousin
Angelo Buono. He ends up living with Buono, becoming a part of his sexual urges, and
ultimately killing innocent women. Angelo Buono was also born in Rochester, New York to
Italian immigrant parents, and moved to Glendale California when he was five years old. His
interest about sex started at a young age, and as a teenager had claimed to have raped several girls.

Essay On California Gold Rush
The California Gold Rush began on January 24, 1848, when gold was found by James W.
Marshall at Sutter s Mill in Coloma, California. The first to hear confirmed information of the
gold rush were the people in Oregon, the Sandwich Islands, and Latin America, and they were the
first to start flocking to the state in late 1848. All in all, the news of gold brought some 300,000
people to Californiafrom the rest of the United Statesand abroad. Of the 300,000, approximately
half arrived by sea and half came overland on the California Trail and the Gila River trail.
The gold seekers, called forty niners , often faced substantial hardships on the trip. While most of
the newly arrived were Americans, the Gold Rush attracted tens of thousands from Latin America,
Europe, Australia, and China. At first, the prospectors retrieved the gold from streams... Show more

San Francisco grew from a small settlement of about 200 residents in 1846 to a boomtown of about
36,000 by 1852. Roads, churches, schools and other towns were built throughout California. In 1849
a state constitution was written. The new constitution was adopted by referendum vote, and the
future state s interim first governor and legislature were chosen. In September, 1850, California
became a state as part of the Compromise of 1850.
New methods of transportation developed as steamships came into regular service. By 1869
railroads were built across the country from California to the eastern United States. Agriculture and
ranching expanded throughout the state to meet the needs of the settlers. At the beginning of the
Gold Rush, there was no law regarding property rights in the goldfields and a system of staking
claims was developed. The Gold Rush also had negative effects: Native Americans were attacked
and pushed off their lands and the mining has caused environmental harm. An estimated 100,000
California Indians died between 1848 and 1868 as a result of American

Introduction
Contrary to popular belief, Canada is not immune to natural disasters. As a matter of fact, natural
disasters that have a recurring pattern on Canadian land. While Canadians create new innovations
to combat these disasters, they are almost always unstoppable and their effects are inevitable.
Earthquakes
Canada is located near and on many fault lines. With fault, lines energy builds up and has to be

Although these disasters tend to be mild due to the cold water that surrounds Canada, some
hurricanes on the eastern side of Canada can strike with high speeds because the warm Gulf
Stream extends close to Atlantic Canada. The strongest hurricane to pass through Canadian land
was the 1927 Nova Scotia Hurricane that had winds of 165km/h and was classified as a category

Both hurricanes caused catastrophic damage and put many lives at risk. The 1927 Nova Scotia
Hurricane that hit the east coast of Canada caused many effects. These effects included landslides,
flooding, damage to buildings and roads, storm debris littered the streets, and boats were sunk.
This tragedy costed more than 2 million dollars in repairs and hundreds of people s lives.

The Diet, The South Beach Diet
Introduction: We live in a society that is crazed in following latest diets whether it be the
Mediterranean diet, the Atkins diet, the South Beach diet etc. Each day there are new discoveries
displayed throughout the media regarding diets and lifestyles, yet for a society so obsessed in the
healthiest trend our statistics tend to show the flying numbers at which the population is diagnosed
with chronic diseases related to nutritional factors. Thus a sound nutritionis more essential than
ever. In the United States at least 4 of the 10 leading causes of are directly linked to what we eat.
Majority if not all of the chronic diseases have a nutritional/lifestyle component that if caught in
time can be reversed. Therefore the focus of the meal plan project was to gain an understanding
of one s own personal nutritional intake by measuring calories consumed throughout the course
of one week. In doing so the individual is made aware of any nutritional deficiencies or food
excesses by the choices made when selecting food. The individual is able to fully grasp their
individual needs by analyzing the data collected over their consumption of essential nutrients such
as carbohydrates, lipids, water and proteins. In the midst of attending class, work and club
schedules, as well as inadequate sleep I hypothesize that my overall nutrition will look be a
downward spiral with insufficient calories and deficiencies in minerals.

The Sexual Dysfunction Problem for Men
Premature ejaculation (PE) is a frequent and under treated problem for males and their sexual
partners. PE is the most common sexual dysfunction problem for men, with an estimated 14
30% of males ages 18 years and older reporting PE globally. However, the prevalence of PE is
difficult to determine because of the ambiguity surrounding the definition of clinically relevant PE
as well as the reluctance of sufferers to report their condition . Yet, most previously published
clinical trials use the DSM IV TR definition of PE, defined as : A.Persistent or recurrent pattern of
ejaculation occurring during partnered sexual activity within approximately 1 minute following
vaginal penetration and before the individual wishes it (Note: Although the diagnosis of PE may
apply to individuals engaged in non vaginal sexual activities, specific duration criteria have not
been established for these activities) B.The symptom in Criterion A must have been present for at
least 6 months and must be experienced on almost all or (approximately 75% 100%) all occasions
of sexual activity (in identified situational contexts or, if generalized, in all contexts) C.The
symptom in Criteria A causes clinically significant distress in the individual. D.The sexual
dysfunction is not better explained by a nonsexual mental disorder or as a consequence of severe
relationship distress or other significant stressors and is not attributable to the effects of a substance

company s financial ratios and other calculations used to measure the success of a company. The
Wendy s Company is the #2 hamburger chain in the United States following #1 McDonalds
(Hoovers). The Wendy s Company (NASDAQ:WEN) is the world s third largest quick service
hamburger company (Wendy s.com). The company consists of almost 6,500 restaurants in the U.S.

This ratio is an indicator of a company s ability to use cash to address its current liabilities, if
needed (Ehrhardt, 2011). The fact that Wendy s has a Quick Ratio of 1.5 suggests that the
company has a high liquidity. To be more specific, the company s current assets in 2011 were
$4,300.67 million with liabilities totaling $2,304.60 million (Table 3). These figures indicate that
the company would be in a good position if it had to meet its short term obligations. The company s
inventory (Table 1) Turnover Ratio is 145.3 with an industry average of 47.0 (Hoovers). The fact
that Wendy s ratio is much higher than the industry average shows that the company is good at
managing its inventory. Table 2 shows that in 2011, Wendy s cost of goods sold was $1,816.11
million with an average inventory of 12.90 (Hoovers). These numbers have been relatively
consistent, in terms of Inventory Ratios; therefore the company does not appear to overstock. One
concern may be that the ratio is too high. If this is the case

Lorenzo And Santa Maria Novella Comparison
A comparison between the structure of San Lorenzo and Santa Maria Novella discloses the
same style of High Classical age of fifth century Greece that Alberti and Brunelleschi both aimed
to achieve. In Santa Maria Novella, Alberti introduced Classical features around the portico with
Classical proportions. Moreover, elements such as pilasters, cornices and a pediment in the
Classical style were used instead of sculptures. In regards to the façade designed by Alberti, the
incorporation of two large scrolls to bridge the different levels of the central nave to the lower side
aisles was another feature of Church facades in late Renaissance, Baroque and Classical Revival
architecture.

As shown in diagram one, the vast interior of Santa Maria Novella is divided into a nave, a short
transept and two aisles. The plan of San Lorenzo (diagram two), inspired by classical art, on the
other hand consists of three naves and a conceptualization of modules of aisles. Both plans are
spatially longitudinal with a singular emphasized large nave to convey austerity. Moreover, the
exposure of the full length floor when one enters San Lorenzo produces a visual highlight of
centralization in the area of the transept, of which the central dome meets the corners of a square.
This combination of curve and square is Brunelleschi s rational perception of geometric
relationships an important contrast to Gothic architecture, where cathedrals were intended to awe
and mystify the viewer with the flamboyant beauty of the sacred. The Renaissance church, in
contrast, desires to communicate the idea that math and science were paths to the sacred, as echoed
by Alberti in his treatise, Della Pittura, the harmony of all parts in relation to one another and that
this concord is realized in a particular number, proportion and arrangement demanded by harmony.

In the beginning the reader believe the people of Liliput are kind and gentle people. Though they
tie Gulliver up they treat him with with kindness and respect. They bring him food and drink and
give him his freedom. There requests seem reasonable and they give him no cause to be
suspicious of them. The emperor himself treats Gulliver like a friend. Later on though, the reader s
opinion of the people of Liliput most likely change as there true colors are revealed. The main
things that would change the reader s mind are the emperor s order to destroy the fleet of Blefuscu,
the sentence of putting Gulliver s eyes out and starving him to death slowly, and that they force
Gulliver to defend their country from their enemies. {{In your introduction,... Show more content

Casablanca Love And War Essay
The Duality of Love and War: an Analysis of How the Love story of Casablanca is a Metaphor
America in the Second World War Michael Curtiz s Casablanca (1942) follows Rick s internal
struggle and his eventual decisive action on whether or not to help his former lover. This story,
while seemingly innocent enough on the surface, mirrors another, much darker tale; one that
takes place on a much grander scale. This is especially evident in the final sequence of the film
where Rick helps Victor and Ilsa escape on a plane to America, before he shoots and kills Major
Strasser in order to ensure their escape. When analyzed through the formal elements of film, this
sequence becomes about much more than just a man doing whatever he has to in order to... Show

Once looked at through the formal elements of film, this film becomes about more than just the
struggle of a man and his love; it becomes a beautifully crafted metaphor for one of the darkest
times the world has seen. The narrative of the film draws a near perfect parallel between Rick
and his involvement in Victor and Ilsa s struggle and America and its involvement in the Second
World War. That parallel builds upon itself as the film progresses, strengthening itself through
mise en scene and other stylistic elements until it finally comes into fruition in the final sequence.
It is in the final sequence that the metaphor truly begins to take shape, and its meaning begins to
take hold. That meaning, rooted in the narrative and supported by other stylistic elements, is that
the US needs to involve itself in the war. That America s very presence in the fight, let alone its
actions, will prove to be decisive in the outcome of a war that is dividing the world. Nowhere in
the film is this statement by the filmmakers more evident than in the final sequence. The final
sequence itself is a rallying call to the US to fight for the very beliefs it was founded on, and to
join the fight to stop the advancement of the Nazi

The Philosopher King
If the choice is between a blind person and a sharp sighted one, isn t it clear which one we ll
need? (Plato 203). The image of the philosopher king was thoroughly described in Plato s
Republic, but the perfect ruler or philosopher king has transformed throughout history and are
influenced by historical events. First, the description of a perfect ruler in an ideal society in Platos
Republic will be the first comparison and the basis of a philosopher king. Second, Marcus Aurelius,
who was described as the first philosopher king wrote Meditations and it expresses his own
thoughts and beliefs which can ultimately reflect his actions. Lastly, Notker s account of
Charlemagne can be used to examine a king who may not always be recognized as a philosopher
king, but Charlemagne is described as a great ruler who valued learning and philosophy. These
three examples are from different time periods and so their perception and lifestyles are different
in some aspects. Likewise, all three accounts are from different viewpoints because the Republic
is not examining one specific person, but an ideal individual. Marcus Aurelius wrote about
himself and his beliefs and values are examined to determine philosopher king characteristics.
Lastly, Notker s writing is a secondary source and Notker did not know Charlemagne personally.
Therefore, Notker s account is praising a king who he did not know, but Charlemagne is
remembered as an ideal ruler and Notker lists Charlemagne s accomplishments and

Borders of life and lands Gregory
Boca Chica is municipality of the Dominican Republic, located upon the island of Hispaniola in the
Gulf of ChiriquГ. The history of conflict between the Dominican side of the island (influenced by
Spanish colonial rule) and the Western Haitian side is long standing, dating back to the 1880 s.
Upon the modern day landscape there is an imaginary line which divides Hispaniola into a land of
two countries. One side of which is Haiti and the other the Dominican Republic. It is on the
Dominican side where Gregory focuses his ethnography.
Through anecdotal interviews bureaucratic and social borders are described, which not only
exclude and disempower the Haitian residents of the country, but which also also alienate
citizens of Dominican descent due to their financial state. Dominican parents are required to
register the birth of a child at office of Civil Registry so as to be issued with a birth certificate.
When the child reaches the age of eighteen, this certificate can than be exchanged for an adult
cГ©dula , which is required for voting, securing formal employment and obtaining licenses and
other documents. However, many parents, especially those in rural areas, may delay or neglect
registering their children s birth, through oversight, ignorance, or lack of resources to travel or to

A Comparison Of The Nike Of Samothrace
The Nike of Samothrace is a freestanding statue of a winged, female body dating back to 190
BCE. The entire sculpture stands approximately 18 feet tall on a pedestal that is shaped very
similarly to the front section of a ship. Her body measures around 9 feet while the smaller base
she is connected to measures around 1 foot in height. The larger, disconnected, piece that mimics
front section of a ship is around 6 feet tall. Made of a very highly prized material in ancient Greece,
the Nikeof Samothraceis made solely from Parian marble, which is white in color. The statue has
no arms and no head and looks as if she is preparing to land on the pedestal below her as it is
moving forward. She wears a long gown that reaches all the way to her feet with her wings
stretched out in the back. This sculptor gave great attention to the entire piece and to the
gracefulness of her movements and beauty of her body. Through intricate work and important
textures, The Nike of Samothrace displays great power to Greece.
This statue is in decent condition given its age but does still have a sufficient amount of damage.
We can clearly see that both the right and left arms have been broken off of the body as well as
the head. This gives the location of where the arms and head should be a much rougher texture, but
that texture was not intentional when the piece was created. The larger base that she is standing on
is in much worse condition. It has many cracks and breaks where it has had to be

However, these machines have been given an increasing amount of freedom such as a 24/7
watch for intruders, unlike humans, and the ability to shoot at their own will. The topic of
giving these machines a certain degree of freedom and moral value has been a subject of
controversy. Should machines be given free will beyond human control? Many researches and
philosophers like Patrick Lin spoke against the issue of the letter, saying that it is a useful letter
of awareness, but nobody can predict whether robots will gain full autonomy in the future. (Lin
qtd. in Knight Par.8) While the idea of preserving human lives, the danger of robots given their
free will could result in more than the deaths of the adversary, but also innocent civilians. The
liberty of the robots will make them persons and not necessarily comply with our demands, since
their freedom is superior to our control. In what follows, I will argue that war robots are not
persons and should not be given a higher level of autonomy and moral value and that humans

Money In Ayn Rand s Atlas Shrugged
In Ayn Rand s novel Atlas Shrugged the character Francisco d Anconia views money as a tool
and a symbol; something that can only come about by the hard work and ambition of men. He
feels that a love of money is justified, and is liberal in his employment it because he sees no
arbitrary value in money itself. This contrasts sharply with the view of James Taggart who sees
money as a necessary evil; something that must be controlled, and forced to work with the people.
James Taggart is afraid of money and what it has the power to do, so he attempts to limit it. You
can see how this reflects Ayn Rands own views on the difference between communism and
capitalism.
The difference in views between these two men is at the most basic level; that Francisco wants to
make money while Taggart wants to have money. As I said before, to Francisco and to all the good

They see money as its own beast. It is a necessary evil that must be controlled. Because they
cannot draw the connections between the money and its source they cannot justify the love of
money. They either acknowledge and embrace that what they do is looting and decide not to
care, or like James Taggart they remain in denial and self deluded that what they are doing is for
the public good . This is a reflection of Ayn Rand s own views on communism; the belief that
money must be controlled, and that if left to its own it will undoubtedly become a negative force, a
detriment to society. Because they cannot understand why money is valuable (though they
acknowledge that it is) they seek to have money as opposed to making money. This is why they
attempt to freeze the state of the nation, so that they may remain in an eternal state of having not

boarding school students, this is what they get to experience each and every day as a part of their

Boarding schools help develop essential competencies in life at much younger ages than most
others. As individuals living on their own, boarding school students are bound to develop
important social skills and learn many life lessons. Although kids are bound to develop
important social skills at some point, boarding school students have the benefit of having the
opportunity to learn and realize much earlier than others. For example, boarding school students
learn how to develop a good trait of responsibility that comes with living abroad from their
parents. Simple things such as doing the laundry, taking a shower, spending money wisely,
making personal decisions, etc. All of those tasks may seem easy, but kids have to make these
decisions on their own without any parental guidance. On the contrary, day school students have
the convenience of having their parents all the time, so these simple tasks are significantly easier
for them. Even if certain boarding school are slow to making the right decisions and have trouble
without parental guidance, counselors are present to provide necessary help to the students at all
times. Boarding school students would also learn and develop good social skills. They would be

Factors That Affect The Treatment Of Tina Depression
The purpose of this paper is to examine important misconceptions of psychopathology which could
impact the treatment of Tina depression. Discuss her symptoms of depression, intake interview, and
why the counselor s own perception of psychopathology is extremely important in the diagnostic

DEPRESSIVE DISORDERS The clinical picture for depression can be complicated because of
the subjectivity that is possible in reporting depressive symptoms. Reported symptoms are clear

I disagree with the statement that the best way to help them is to give them money because of
these three reasons. Firstly, the reason why people became a homeless is not only because they

lost motivation of their life. For example, some homeless people prefer to live outside, even they
could afford to rent a room. It causes by feeling of guilt, and lost confidence for the future. Also,

What were the causes and consequences of the Spanish civil war?
The Spanish Civil War had been majorly caused by a series of long term events and short term
events which had contributed to its outbreak in July 17th, 1936. The consequences of the Spanish
Civil War may be divided in terms of its effect on Spainand its effect upon the rest of the world.
Paul Preston argues that the war had been influenced by a series of events, which had built up until
the final eruption of the war in 1936. Preston argues that the social tension in Spain during the 19th
and early 20th century had contributed to the outbreak of the war. The differences between the

The civil war had now begun.
The Spanish Civil War had led to terrible consequences for the Spanish people. Historians are in
agreement that foreign contemporaries often misunderstood the civil war as a battle between
democracy ad fascism, when in reality; it had been a complex chapter in Spain’s history.
The social consequences for Spain had been atrocious. The civil war had led to 325,000 deaths
overall. At the end of the war almost half a million Spaniards were forced into exile. Spain also lost
come of its greatest political leaders as Azana and Largo and some of its most symbolic and
beautiful voices †Lorca. Furthermore, the war had brought terror to the Spanish people. For
example, in Malaga, the terror had been inflicted on the Spanish people by their own people.
Although arguable, the Condor Legion of Germany had committed the greatest acts of terror in
1939. The Condor Legion bombed the Basque town of Guernica on the 26th of April 1937. The
bombing raid took place for three and a half hours, without any pauses, and left the town completely
destroyed. For Spain the effects of the terror was to strengthen the position of the nationalists.

Tax Section 311 Taxability of a Corporation on Dividends
A corporation that distributes property that has appreciated in value must recognize a gain at the
time of distribution. The corporation is treated as if it had sold the property. The gain equals the
property s fair market value less its adjusted basis. Code Sec. (b). However, the corporation does
not recognize a loss if the property had declined in value. Also, the corporationrecognizes no gain or
loss if t distributes its own stock rights to its shareholders. Code Sec. (a). The character of the
recognized gain depends on the property distributed; thus it may be ordinary income, capital gain,
or Section 1231 gain.

The Tax Court, per Judge Ruwe, issued an order on May 8, 1995, denying Pope Talbot s motion

impression, and found resort to the legislative history of the statute necessary since the court was
unable to achieve...certainty based on the language of the statute. After reviewing the legislative
history of IRC Sec. 311, the court observed the following: It is apparent that the purpose
underlying IRC Sec. 311(d) was to tax the appreciation in value that occurred while the corporation
held the property and to prevent a corporation from avoiding tax on the inherent gain by distributing
such property to its shareholders...It follows that we must focus on the value of the Washington
properties as owned by petitioner and value them as if petitioner had sold them at fair market value
at the time of distribution.
The court also remarked that theoretically the partnership could have sold the property at fair
market value and then distributed the proceeds. If this had been done, the court continued, the
shareholders would then have been able to realize a proportionate share of the full FMV of the
property distributed.
The court found unpersuasive Pope Talbot s argument that the plain meaning of IRC Sec. 311(d)
mandated that distributions of property to shareholders be valued by

The White City By Erik Larson
Erik Larson s literary nonfiction novel The Devil in the White City surrounds the events of the
1893 Columbian Exposition World s Fair in Chicago. Larson does a magnificent job intertwining
the lives of two men who were changed by the events of the fair. Daniel H. Burnham, the brilliant
architect behind the legendary 1893 World s Fair and Dr. H. H. Holmes, the cunning serial killer
who used the fair to lure his victims to their death. The purpose of this review is not only to
summarize Larson s fascinating and satisfying work which vividly portrays one of the last grand
gasps of the nineteenth century, but to also evaluate his work as a writer while providing a critical
analysis of his book.
As stated The Devil in the White City is a novel based on true events which I personally found
intriguing since the way Larson conveys his writing makes it seem almost fictional. Larson s
novel focuses on two main characters Daniel H. Burnham and Dr. H. H. Holmes born Herman
Webster Mudgett. Larson first introduces Burnham with the sentence He was sixty five years old
and had become a large man. His hair had turned gray, his mustache nearly white, but his eyes
were as blue as ever, bluer at this instant by proximity to the sea (p.3). While reading the book we
discover that Burnham was the architect who got contracted to build the 1893 Chicago World s
Fair with John Root. Unfortunately, we also discover that John Root dies before the fair even

A Comparison of The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables
Nathaniel Hawthorne, one of America s most renowned authors, demonstrates his extraordinary
talents in two of his most famed novels, The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables. To
compare these two books seems bizarre, as their plots are distinctly different. Though the books are
quite seemingly different, the central themes and Hawthorne s style are closely related (Carey, p.
62). American novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne is most famous for his books THE SCARLET
LETTER and THE HOUSE OF THE SEVEN GABLES, which are closely related in theme, the use
of symbolism, characterization, and style.

Phoebe is considered to be the heart which warms the house, while Holgrave is the intellectual
head. When Phoebe and Holgrave fall in love, heart and head are brought together to form a union
that may end the curse forever (Sheldon, p. 16).
The obvious and most prevalent theme in both books is the effect of sin. In The Scarlet Letter,
Hester Prynne s sin was an understandably human one which arose from desire for the simple
human bliss open to all mankind. At this point, Roger Chillingworth is capable of remorse and is
still able to rejoin the great heart of mankind, but he is led astray into his own sin in which he pries
into Dimmesdale s heart, and his latent evil posses him (Rountree, p.89). In The House of the
Seven Gables, this theme seems to come through as an inherited curse. Greed drives both Colonel
and Jaffrey Pyncheon to encourage the persecution of a less powerful man, and then takes his land
or inheritance. This sin is seen as a curse throughout the book as it influences all that the living do
(Carey, p. 58).
One of the characteristic themes of each book which helps to establish the setting, is the individual
vs. society. Hester Prynne s battle with society is established immediately, and we are let to judge
her for what she has done.
Hawthorne is known for being a Romantic writer with a Romantic subject: a rebel who refuses to

Memory and Relationships in Lahiri s The Third and Final Continent
Each piece of diaspora literature is laced with several underlying themes that make themselves
visible in unique ways. Memory and family are two of these themes that seem to take root in
several pieces. These themes enable the author to add dynamics and depth to anything that they
write. A prime example of these dynamics can be found in Jhumpa Lahiri s The Third and Final
Continent. Lahiri flawlessly uses both of these themes to bring her writing to the next level. In fact,
the relationships, both familial and otherwise, formed in The Third and Final Continent are based

Luckily, he did not have to overcome his journey alone. Lahiri incorporates his family life in

he explains that, and then, because my brother could not bear it, I had assumed the role of the

(Lahiri, 5). All of the familial memories associated with Calcutta seem to be very dark and deep
in contrast with the familial memories the narrator makes in America. Lahiri most likely did

themes on his back. The son grows up fully in Massachusetts and lives life as a Bengali

How Does Socrates View Of Death
BD Socrates views of death as represented in The Trial and Death of Socrates are irrevocably tied
to his beliefs of what makes life significant. For Socrates, life must be examined through constant
questioning and one must hold the goodness of life above all else. Consequently, even in the
face of the un good, or unjust in Socrates case as represented in his trial, it would not be correct
to do wrong, return wrong or do harm in return for harm done. Therefore, no act should be
performed with an account for the risk of life or death; it should be performed solely on the basis
of whether it is good and right. Throughout the Apology, Crito and Phaedo, Socrates expresses his

Negating The Profane And Connecting Everything
Negating the Profane and Connecting Everything In The Way of the Earth, T.C. McLuhan
draws attention to the insightful writings of Amadou Hampate Ba. Known as the Sage of
Marcory, 1 Ba endeavors to present the oral religious traditions of Africa in writing. Through the
lens of African religious tradition, Ba asserts that, It can be seen that there is little or no room
for the profane life, in the modern sense of the word: there is no such thing as the sacred on one
side and the profane on the other. 2 This recognition is embraced by Ba s conclusion that,
Everything is connected, everything brings the forces of life into play. 3 Ba recognizes these
ideas as, manifold aspects of Se, the sacred primordial force, which is itself an aspect of God. 4 It is
my contention that Ba s observation is consistent within the context of the African religious
traditions. Within the framework of a discussion, and explanation of the presence of the sacred in
all aspects of African life, it is my intent to reveal the actuality of Ba s claim that, there is little or
no room for a profane life... .5 Moreover, I intend to broaden the discussion by asserting that Ba s
claim has equal validity in other cultural religious traditions viz., those of the Native North
Americans. Using the example of Native North Americans, will also illuminate a further contention
that, hierophanies are present in the natural world, and as a manifestation of the sacred, provide

close to death. There have been accounts that describe this noise as an extremely unpleasant

the form of Japanese bells and music.
The feelings that people experience while near death have had similarities, they are described as
extremely pleasant sensations during the earlier stages in the experience these include feelings of
peace and quiet, warmth, comfort and solitude. All feelings you would not associate with a near
death experience. One example is from a man who after a severe head injury lost all signs of life:
At the point of injury there was a momentary flash of pain, but all the pain vanished... the day was
bitterly cold, yet while I was in blackness all I felt was warmth and the most extreme comfort I

The darkness that was mentioned in that mans experience is part of another feature that of the Dark

Kondro, 2006; L Abbe Mahsa, 2015). This is particularly disturbing because according to the 2004
Canadian Community Health Survey, 59% of the adult population is overweight and 1 in 4 is
obese; the numbers are even more alarming regarding children and adolescents (Karmali et al.,
2010). The cause of the obesity epidemic might be right at our fingertips with the Unhealthy Food
Guide that is imposed on Canadians. One strict change that must occur to the food guide includes
disassociating 100% fruit juices as vegetableand fruit sources, and thereby removing

Katsushika Hokusai s Influence On Japanese Culture
Japan is been always known for their unique artstyle, but none is more influential on both
Japanese and western cultural than Katsushika Hokusai. Many consider his paintings the
pinnacle of art in the Edo period. The old man of many names is a true part of both japanese and
art culture. Hokusai was born around September 23, 1760 in Edo, Japan. Edo is located east of
the bank of sumida river in Honjo, Japan s Capital district, known as modern day Tokyo. Hokusai
was born in the Zodiacal year of the Dragon and this was very important to him and he would
make this clear to everyone he talked to. Not much is know about his parents or his youth but he
is believed to be born into the kawamura family named Tokitarou but later adopted by Nakajima
Iso, who was a Mirror polisher. Katsushika was said to of be influenced by Nakajima Iso s Mirror
frames which often had small drawings or designs on them.. He worked early on as a library
client and read many books which filled his mind with many ideas. At the age of fourteen he was

Fuji. As usual he used blue as the color that stands out with a strong white to draw the eye and
show motion. The Great wave is a Woodblock Print not a painting contrary to popular belief. This
made it easier for hokusai to replicate and sell. This means it isn t located in just one place as
there are multiple originals. This print is also part of hokusai s most popular series Thirty six
Views of Mt. Fuji. At the time that Hokusai had created this Mt. Fuji was a huge part of Japan
even having cults formed for it, this caused everything Hokusai made about Mt. Fuji to sell like
crazy. I think the painting is one of his more traditional paintings it appears calm yet dangerous at
the same time and is definitely one of his more dimensional

The History Of Antarctica
Antarctica has no native population. Its residents are scientific and support staff who usually stay
no more than a year at a time. The first person born in Antarctica was Emilio Palma, on January 7,
1978, the son of the commander of Argentina s Esperanza Base.
Antarctica is more than 95% ice covered and contains about 90% of the world s fresh water.
Because of this thick ice cover, it is highest of all continents, with an average elevation of more
than 1,600 m (about 5,250 ft.). The highest point on the continent is Vinson Massif (5,140 m
/16,864 ft); the lowest appears to be Bentley Subglacial Trench (2,499 m/ 8,200 ft below sea level)
in West Antarctica. This trench is covered with more than 3,000 m (more than 9,840 ft) of ice and
snow. Lower points may exit under the ice, but they have not yet been discovered. ... Show more

Since the Antarctic Treaty of 1961, these claims have been held aside in the interests of
international cooperation in scientific research. Neither the U.S. nor the USSR made a claim to

Gender Socialization And Gender Roles
Early gender socialization is perhaps one of the most relevant issues and debates of early
childhood. The beginnings of stereotypes for gender roles are typically established at birth, and
continue a process of learning specific cultural roles and standards in accordance with the sex of the
individual. Gendered interactions begin early in the familyand hence influence the process of
gendered socialization, as was such the case for myself growing up. Socialization comes from a
number of sources: religion, peers, schooling, media, parents, and the overall family unit. For
myself growing up, I was immensely influenced by my family and their expectations as far as
gendered socialization. I was raised in the small city of Del City in Oklahoma. Growing up, both
of my parents were in the picture, but my mom was single, while I saw my dad every weekend. I
also had two sisters for my siblings. We played with traditional toys for girls: dolls, babies, little
kitchen sets, and the like. In a sense, we were like any other normal American family, honoring
such holidays as Thanksgiving and Christmas. On these holidays, my extended and immediate
family would always get together and celebrate these holidays with big family dinners. Memories
such as these made my childhoodvery special. Overall when I reflect on my childhood, I felt
secure in my relationships and was shown ample love from my parents and family. My mom was a
more traditional figure of the household as she

The Preface Starts Off By William Lloyd Garrison
The preface starts off by William Lloyd Garrison describing his encounter with Frederick
Douglass at an anti slavery convention in Nantucket. Garrison tells us that Frederick Douglass
made an escape from the southern prison house of bondage and that his speech at the convention
was a memorable one. Frederick Douglass s had eloquence and a skill of persuading. Connecting
people s minds and hearts to his words of description about the reality of slavery. The audience
responded with great attention and created a common perspective about the actuality of slavery
that Frederick Douglass describes. As soon as Frederick Douglass finished his speech, Garrison
arose and declared that the hunted fugitive s speech was better than Patrick... Show more content on

Rather than the descriptions revealed by the masters who might have hide the significant facts
about his slaves life and the mistreatments they receive. Phillips was also glad to learn a lot of the
true facts from Douglass s narrative and learns the wretchedness of death that gathers over the
souls of the slaves before they could even learn their A B C s. Phillips also mentions that
Frederick Douglass originates from a state (Maryland) where the conditions for a slave were less
harsh than the other states in the Deep South. Where one can only imagine the horrors that
surrounded the slaves in those states. Wendell Phillips also praises his book and is also
confident that whoever reads his book will be persuaded towards the cause of anti slavery and
that since Frederick Douglass is a marvelous and persuasive speaker, his book will also consist of
the same elements. Finally, he mentions to his friend about how he wrote his own name and his
masters names clearly in his narrative, making it dangerous upon himself. Phillips also relates this
choice towards the founding fathers when they wrote their names on the Declaration of
Independence. Here we can admire Frederick Douglass s bravery and that he is not scared to
spread the truth about the reality of slavery that many do not know.
Frederick Douglass was born in Talbot county, Maryland. Douglass explains that he does not know
his age, as many other slaves also do not know their

  • 3. Differentiation Strategy Of Zara Differentiation strategy A differentiation strategy seeks to provide products or services that offer benefit that are different from those of competitors and that are widely valued by buyers. (Johnson, Scholes Whittington, 2008). The aim of using differentiation strategy is to achieve competitive advantage. This could be achieved for example like the clothing brand ZARA, by offering better products at the same price. A differentiation strategy must be based on two key factors: the strategic customers, the company has to identify their needs and values, company also must identify who are its main competitors. Product differentiation It is a marketing concept which was first proposed by Edward Chamberlin in 1933, in the Theory on Monopolistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A company s image can be described as the overall perception of the company. ZARA s business idea is to in an international market offer high quality goods to a low price. ZARA s main competitors are H M, GAP, and Mango, in Georgia manager thinks that the main competitor is Massimo Dutti. By positioning themselves in the market, they are affecting the consumer s perception of the company. ZARA s main competitors have similar market positions, they target the same customers and have similar business ideas. There are some factors that make ZARA stand out as more exclusive. As the manager at ZARA in Georgia mentioned the clothes are not mass produced and products that do not sell well are taken away from store. The collection is changed every second week. This makes the products stand out as more unique in comparison to H M products which are mass produced. This also makes the customer more willing to buy the product immediately instead of thinking and reflecting on whether to buy or not. In the store you can also get the feeling of exclusivity, as the manager in Georgia mentioned there is a lot of space between the clothes and the store is bright and the personnel is wearing all ... • 4. Hillside Strangler Case Solution The Hillside Strangler was the name given to two killers who strangled and killed their victims, dumping their bodies in the hills of Los Angeles. These killings took place during October 1977 and February 1978, involving ten young women ranging from ages 12 to 28. With over one hundred law enforcement task force members working to solve this case, the fear within the community was undeniably present. It wasn t long before the clues would come in one by one, helping detectives solve this heinous crime. Once two sets of DNA was revealed on the crime scenes, policerealized they had not just one, but two killers. The killers were later discovered to be cousins Kenneth Alessio Bianchi and Angelo Anthony Buono. Kenneth Bianchi was born in Rochester, New York to a prostitute mother and was given up for adoption when he was born. His upbringing was normal, but he was known to be a pathological liar. He had a fantasy about joining the police force, but when he applied both in New York and Los Angeles, he was rejected. In 1975 Bianchi decided to move to Los Angeles to stay with his role model and older cousin Angelo Buono. The first to hear confirmed information of the gold rush were the people in Oregon, the Sandwich Islands, and Latin America, and they were the first to start flocking to the state in late 1848. All in all, the news of gold brought some 300,000 people to Californiafrom the rest of the United Statesand abroad. Of the 300,000, approximately half arrived by sea and half came overland on the California Trail and the Gila River trail. PE is the most common sexual dysfunction problem for men, with an estimated 14 30% of males ages 18 years and older reporting PE globally. In Santa Maria Novella, Alberti introduced Classical features around the portico with Classical proportions. Moreover, elements such as pilasters, cornices and a pediment in the Classical style were used instead of sculptures. In regards to the faГ§ade designed by Alberti, the incorporation of two large scrolls to bridge the different levels of the central nave to the lower side aisles was another feature of Church facades in late Renaissance, Baroque and Classical Revival architecture. Both plans are spatially longitudinal with a singular emphasized large nave to convey austerity. Moreover, the exposure of the full length floor when one enters San Lorenzo produces a visual highlight of centralization in the area of the transept, of which the central dome meets the corners of a square. This combination of curve and square is Brunelleschi s rational perception of geometric relationships an important contrast to Gothic architecture, where cathedrals were intended to awe and mystify the viewer with the flamboyant beauty of the sacred. The Renaissance church, in contrast, desires to communicate the idea that math and science were paths to the sacred, as echoed by Alberti in his treatise, Della Pittura, the harmony of all parts in relation to one another and that this concord is realized in a particular number, proportion and arrangement demanded by harmony. ... This story, while seemingly innocent enough on the surface, mirrors another, much darker tale; one that takes place on a much grander scale. This is especially evident in the final sequence of the film where Rick helps Victor and Ilsa escape on a plane to America, before he shoots and kills Major Strasser in order to ensure their escape. Once looked at through the formal elements of film, this film becomes about more than just the struggle of a man and his love; it becomes a beautifully crafted metaphor for one of the darkest times the world has seen. The narrative of the film draws a near perfect parallel between Rick and his involvement in Victor and Ilsa s struggle and America and its involvement in the Second World War. That parallel builds upon itself as the film progresses, strengthening itself through mise en scene and other stylistic elements until it finally comes into fruition in the final sequence. It is in the final sequence that the metaphor truly begins to take shape, and its meaning begins to take hold. That meaning, rooted in the narrative and supported by other stylistic elements, is that the US needs to involve itself in the war. That America s very presence in the fight, let alone its actions, will prove to be decisive in the outcome of a war that is dividing the world. Many researches and philosophers like Patrick Lin spoke against the issue of the letter, saying that it is a useful letter of awareness, but nobody can predict whether robots will gain full autonomy in the future. The social consequences for Spain had been atrocious. The civil war had led to 325,000 deaths overall. At the end of the war almost half a million Spaniards were forced into exile. After reviewing the legislative history of IRC Sec. 311, the court observed the following: It is apparent that the purpose underlying IRC Sec. 311(d) was to tax the appreciation in value that occurred while the corporation held the property and to prevent a corporation from avoiding tax on the inherent gain by distributing such property to its shareholders...It follows that we must focus on the value of the Washington properties as owned by petitioner and value them as if petitioner had sold them at fair market value at the time of distribution. The court also remarked that theoretically the partnership could have sold the property at fair market value and then distributed the proceeds. If this had been done, the court continued, the shareholders would then have been able to realize a proportionate share of the full FMV of the property distributed. Larson does a magnificent job intertwining the lives of two men who were changed by the events of the fair. Daniel H. Burnham, the brilliant architect behind the legendary 1893 World s Fair and Dr. H. H. Holmes, the cunning serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their death. The purpose of this review is not only to summarize Larson s fascinating and satisfying work which vividly portrays one of the last grand gasps of the nineteenth century, but to also evaluate his work as a writer while providing a critical analysis of his book. As stated The Devil in the White City is a novel based on true events which I personally found intriguing since the way Larson conveys his writing makes it seem almost fictional. Larson s novel focuses on two main characters Daniel H. Burnham and Dr. H. H. Holmes born Herman Webster Mudgett. Larson first introduces Burnham with the sentence He was sixty five years old and had become a large man. His hair had turned gray, his mustache nearly white, but his eyes were as blue as ever, bluer at this instant by proximity to the sea (p.3). A Comparison of The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne, one of America s most renowned authors, demonstrates his extraordinary talents in two of his most famed novels, The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables. To compare these two books seems bizarre, as their plots are distinctly different. Though the books are quite seemingly different, the central themes and Hawthorne s style are closely related (Carey, p. 62). When Phoebe and Holgrave fall in love, heart and head are brought together to form a union that may end the curse forever (Sheldon, p. 16). The obvious and most prevalent theme in both books is the effect of sin. In The Scarlet Letter, Hester Prynne s sin was an understandably human one which arose from desire for the simple human bliss open to all mankind. At this point, Roger Chillingworth is capable of remorse and is still able to rejoin the great heart of mankind, but he is led astray into his own sin in which he pries into Dimmesdale s heart, and his latent evil posses him (Rountree, p.89). In The House of the Seven Gables, this theme seems to come through as an inherited curse. Greed drives both Colonel and Jaffrey Pyncheon to encourage the persecution of a less powerful man, and then takes his land or inheritance. This sin is seen as a curse throughout the book as it influences all that the living do (Carey, p. 58). One of the characteristic themes of each book which helps to establish the setting, is the individual vs. society. Hester Prynne s battle with society is established immediately, and we are let to judge her for what she has done. Through the lens of African religious tradition, Ba asserts that, It can be seen that there is little or no room for the profane life, in the modern sense of the word: there is no such thing as the sacred on one side and the profane on the other. 2 This recognition is embraced by Ba s conclusion that, Everything is connected, everything brings the forces of life into play. 3 Ba recognizes these ideas as, manifold aspects of Se, the sacred primordial force, which is itself an aspect of God. 4 It is my contention that Ba s observation is consistent within the context of the African religious traditions. Critics believe that the time has come for the revision of the second most downloaded document in Canada in the interest of reflecting the changing lifestyles of Canadians (Mortillaro, 2016). At the time of its launch during World War II, male female roles differed vastly, with stay at home moms preparing home cooked meals. The effect of dual earning has taken its toll on Canadian food consumption patterns (Mortillaro, 2016).
