Essay Describe A Person
Writing an essay about describing oneself might initially seem like a straightforward task, as who
knows oneself better than the person in question? However, the challenge lies in striking the right
balance between self-awareness and objectivity. It's not merely a recitation of personal traits and
accomplishments but a nuanced exploration that requires introspection.
The difficulty arises from the delicate dance between humility and confidence. It's crucial to
present oneself authentically without veering into self-aggrandizement or self-deprecation.
Striking this balance demands careful consideration of one's strengths and weaknesses,
acknowledging achievements without sounding boastful, and recognizing flaws without being
overly critical.
Another challenge is avoiding clichГ©s and generic descriptions. Adjectives like "hardworking,"
"dedicated," or "friendly" can easily become clichГ©d without specific examples or anecdotes to
back them up. It's about providing vivid, tangible details that bring the person to life on paper,
making the reader connect with the individual on a deeper level.
Moreover, maintaining a coherent and engaging narrative can be challenging. Describing oneself
involves weaving a cohesive story, whether chronological or thematic, that captures the essence
of who the person is. This requires a keen sense of storytelling, ensuring that the essay flows
smoothly from one point to the next.
Additionally, the essay should transcend the surface level and delve into the deeper aspects of
one's personality, values, and aspirations. It's not just about listing accomplishments but
reflecting on the experiences that shaped those achievements and how they contribute to
personal growth.
In conclusion, writing an essay about describing oneself is no easy feat. It demands a delicate
balance of self-awareness, objectivity, humility, and confidence. It requires avoiding clichГ©s,
providing specific details, and crafting a compelling narrative that goes beyond the surface.
Ultimately, it's an introspective journey that challenges the writer to present themselves
authentically. If you find this task daunting, remember that assistance is available, and similar

Edward Zwick Glory
The courage displayed by the actors in Glory made the historic movie better for me
to see. Glory was made in 1989 when Mathew Broderick, Morgan Freeman, Andre
Braugher, Tihni Kennedy, and Dezel Washington became known actors to
American s. The movie was directed by Edward Zwick, and Zwick accurately
portrays the movie in the right frame. He is able to accurately depict the civil war
and use clothes used in that time frame. Zwick also used actors who were engaged
into their job and indicated the time frame with scar marks on Trip. Not only did the
actors make the music entertaining, but the music brought the movie in. The music
was able to help the viewer know when a scene was happy or dramatic. The movie,
Glory, is an accurate depiction of the civil war with accuracy, acting, and music....

In the opening scene, people are playing baseball. Baseball, a sport, was invented
during the time of the civil war. I love Zwick putting American s past time in the
beginning of the movie. In my view, he was able to catch the viewer s attention by
showing baseball and telling some American s that the movie was about the Civil
War. One of the other things he was accurate about was the clothes. On the
confederate s side (South), the people had dirty clothes and there were some black
soldiers. The South did not have much people fighting in the army, so the people who
had to come in were the slaves from the southern plantations. While the south had
dirty clothes, the union (North) had blue suits. Additionally, the North did not have
as many black soldiers because the North had many people in their army. There were
many people in the North because of working conditions and slavery was prohibited.
During the Battle of Antietam, the movie portrays the clothes on the confederate and
union side
The Lusitania Dead Wake
The Lusitania was a ship that sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, several times,
during World War One. The tragic accident took the lives of many, and pushed
America to enter the war. In Dead Wake , accounts from the press, the captain, and
passengers make up a lot of the text. The novel explains the events leading up to
the sinking, how there was much worry that a German U boat would attack from
below. Sadly it did, and passengers died. Despite being warned about the dangers,
many chose to sail in it. The title Dead Wake is very fitting for the novel because
many people die, they die from a shipwreck, The Lusitania was a boat, and because
even though many lives were lost the memory of them and of the accident still
lives on today. Dead Wake is a wonderful title for the novel for many reasons, one
being that when the Lusitania sank, thousands died. Everyone knew that it was not
a safe trip, but took it anyways; The Lusitania is doomed it read. Do not sail on her
(Larson 93). Many sailed to get closer to family, but the problem was they were
sailing on an English ship in German waters. The risk factor was definitely there,
and it proved to be true. Countless lives were taken, and the worst part was that it
could have been avoided. The results of this voyage were stark, and few survived the
U boat attack.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Lusitania, being a ship, left a wake behind it. Being a very large ship, it had a
very large wake. This could also signify the great amount of loss that occurred. A
large wake is a symbol for large loss. Moreover, the technology of that time was not
as great as it is now so no one knew what was lurking in the fathoms below the
wake. Captains had no way to tell if there was a U boat beneath them or

THEODORE ROOSEVELT Introduction to the Life of Theodore Roosevelt
Theodore Roosevelt was born October 27, 1858 in New York City to Theodore
Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Bulloch. Theodore was also known as Teedie or Teddy.
Due to his continuing battle with health issues, which started at birth, Roosevelt
was homeschooled along with his siblings. The family house also had a
gymnasium where he lifted weights and boxed to help him gain strength. Despite
what appeared to be a sickly and weak child, Roosevelt went on to accomplish many
great things scholastically, physically and politically. He graduated from Harvard
University, published several books, won many awards, and left a lasting impression

They were the first American troops ever sent overseas, arriving at the southeastern
end of Cuba on June 22, 1898. Roosevelt would go on to lead the group to victory,
but sadly many soldiers would die due to yellow fever, lack of food and supplies
and unsanitary camps. Roosevelt would be remembered for the Round Robin
letter he sent asking for the U.S. troops to be removed from Cuba. After the
soldiers were brought home, Americans called Roosevelt a national hero for
bringing them home safely.2 Roosevelt would be called a war hero and receive a
nomination for the Medal of Honor. He was elected as governor of New York in
1898.1 The Republican political machine in New York supported Roosevelt for
governor. However, once he was elected governor, it was clear to them that he had
no interest in listening to their ideas or following their ways. This would lead
Roosevelt into becoming the running mate for McKinley in the presidential
election, in hopes of preventing a second governor term for the once loved war
hero. McKinley would go on to win the election and Roosevelt would become the
Vice President, but this was short lived. On September 6, 1901 McKinley was
tragically shot and killed. Roosevelt would now become the 26th president and the
youngest president in the nation s history at age 42. Under his first term as president
Roosevelt would have many successes.4 He acted against
The Effects of Violence in the Media Essay
The Effects of Violence
In the Media
Someone just got shoot on the streets due to the violence in the media. That is
what some people are saying that violence in the media is the cause of that. The
controversy of the effects that violence has on people has been going on for a long
time. This paper is going to prove both sides of the controversy and let one decide
which side is right.
Violence is on the news and on everyday action shows. Theses everyday shows are

I can state that I watched a lot of violent TV shows when I was younger and I don t
see the world as being dark or sinister. One of the main reasons I believe that that
happened is that my parents were able to talk to me and got me looking up at them.
I am not sure what would have happened if I didn t have my parents doing that
when I was younger I could have been one of those statistics. Parents have just as
much weight in their child s life as the violence on TVs.
Boys who watch more than 25 hours of television per week are significantly less
likely to be aroused by real world violence than those boys who watch 4 hours or
less per week. If you see someone get bet up in front of you how would you react? I
know if I saw someone getting hurt in real life I would try helping that person out.
That isn t due to the fact that I have seen a lot of violence on TV it s because I am a
caring person that likes to help out the needy. That is another fight that shows that
if you are brought up by a caring family you could end up not acting violent.
Children are more likely to mimic positive behaviors 87 per cent of kids do so.
This is proving that if you bring your children up properly then they won t act
violent but I don t want to blame it all on the parents. The people that your kids hang

A green belt or greenbelt is a policy and land use designation used in land use
planning to retain areas of largely undeveloped, wild, or agricultural land
surrounding or neighbouring urban areas. Similar concepts are greenways or green
wedges which have a linear character and may run through an urban area instead of
around it. In essence, a green belt is an invisible line encircling a certain area,
preventing development of the area allowing wildlife to return and be established.

Overcrowding and Urban Planning in Victorian London
Essay
Victorian London in Charles Dickens era was a city suffering under the weight of
the masses of people that lived there. In Dickens time, London was the largest city in
the world, both due to its population increase and the urban sprawl caused by influx
of so many people. There were nearly 4 million inhabitantsof the Great City at the
height of the Victorian age. This number was an increase of nearly three million
people over a period of approximately 30 years, there were many problems associated
with such explosive growth, problems which were most recognizable during Charles
Dickens lifetime.
The migration from rural settings to an urban setting was common throughout the
country but mainly in London, which was prompted by the lack ... Show more content

the Select Committee of 1838:
other public benefits might in some cases be derived simultaneously with that
principal object ,(1) in particular the partial clearance of the Rookery of St. Giles
by means of an extension of Oxford Street to Hart Street. They based these
conclusions on a mass of evidence they had taken on the desirability of improved
both public health and morals, and they had been regaled by the first hand accounts
of the brutish horrors of slum life in various parts of central London. It was hardly
surprising, therefore, that they insisted that the most important improvements . . .
are in direct proportion to the degree in which they embrace all the great purposes
of amendment in respect of health and morals . . . by the removal of congregations
of vice and misery, and the introduction of a better police.(2) (Dyos 86)
As a result of overcrowding, the sanitation issue had to be contended with first and
foremost. The expansion and improvement of the streets, and the expansion of the
rail system (including the Underground) would in turn lead to implementation of the
sewer system (which in London emptied into the Thames.) When new streets were
being planned or tramways being laid (for the omnibuses), the main concern was not
for aesthetics, but for sanitation. When questioned by the Royal Commission on

Entering The Class, English Comp
Entering the class, english comp. one, I had many fears as to what the class would
be like. I had no idea what to expect as a senior in highschool. During the past
english classes I had, we wrote papers, just not a different one every day. Going
into english comp. one, I figured it would be the same method in english just like
the past classes I had. On the very first day in the class, I quickly found out that I
would have to buckle down a little more than I have been in the past. I knew then,
from what Mrs. Garth had told us, that I was going to have many weaknesses while
writingmy papers, but I would also have many strengths from what I had learned in
the past about writing. In August, our first day in the college class, Mrs. Garth
talked with the class about what this semester was going to be like. She spoke to us
as college students and not little children. She told us that Comp. was all about
writing. As a class, we knew there would be more writing than we were use to, but
the very first paperthat Mrs. Garth told us to write was unlike any other paper I had
ever wrote on my own. We were told to write about our favorite foods, our not so
favorite foods, or a tragedy that has happened to us in our life. Of course, I wrote
about the tragedy, my paper was written on the note of my grandmother passing
away. I used very descriptive details in my writing about what the days were like for
me and how I felt after she was gone. While writing the paper, I thought to myself
How Planned was the Soviet Economy Essay
How Planned was the Soviet Economy
As Marxists claim that capitalism is anarchic, planless, inefficient and wastes human
and natural resources , what with the modern advances made by Russia in such a
short space of time, one would assume that the Soviet economy between 1924 and
1939 was meticulously planned and controlled. However, many facts would beg to
differ and instead suggest the contrary.
It is true that institutes of planning existed in Russia in the period concerned. As of
July 1922, VSNKh operated its control over industry by methods of a production
planning character . The institution was responsible for the drafting of production and
disposal plans amongst other things. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One must not overlook the timing of the First Plan and brand it an accident. The Left
Opposition had originally proposed rapid industrialization to be the part s primary
priority. Now that they had been defeated the government was able to adopt their
industrialization policies without putting them in power. Industrialization also came
hand in hand with collectivisation as machinery such as tractors had to be produced.
1921 to 1927 were the years of the NEP.VSNKh can be said to have just regulated
the economy during the NEP as opposed to doing anything else. However in all
fairness, it is difficult to even talk about a planned economy between the years of
1924 and 1928, whatever the role of the state planning institutions, as the state did not
run the most effective parts of the economy. The state s ability to plan was greatly
hindered by the fact that it ran heavy industry and not agriculture. Between 1921 and
1927 the state industrial sector stagnated while agriculture flourished in the private
sector.
The 1921 famine had led to a decline in the amount of land sown in the following
year due to a shortage of seed and peasants fit to work in the affected provinces.
However, the harvest in 1922 was of an acceptable standard, with the land sown in
the following year just short of 90 per cent of the pre war level. Although at this time

What Is The Difference Between Political Patronage And
Merit
In looking at how political patronage and merit system and how they differ the
answer is simple. However, there is much controversy in both. According to The
Craft of Public Administration, written by George Berkley and John Rouse states
that, The selection of civil servants by merit and by political patronage are not
mutually exclusives . What this is basically saying is that while the two may have
the same relation to each other political patronage and the merit system limits control
and can exclude others from participation. In this paper I will discuss the history of
political patronage and merit system, attempt to explain how they differ, and why
both are of relative importance to the other. Political appointment began early on with
the 2nd president feeling obligated to hand his daughter husband a job. Thus
beginning the loss of confidence held by the public in the political arena. It was not

It is important to know the just what political patronage is. Simply put it is the
privilege of special treatment, recompenses such as public jobs, contracts,
subsidies, benefits by a person in office or someone who is trying to gain an office.
In America this example of patronage was seen in this last election involving
Hillary Clinton. However, it must be understood that the type of political patronage
that she was involved in was done on a more globalized scale and involved a
foundation created by Hillary and her husband, former president, Bill Clinton.

John Paston Rebirth
There was no Renaissance in England during the 1300 s to the 1500 s. England at
this time was more rural and lacked the artistic or classical resurgence that is
Renaissance is often defined by. Most of its economy was based in agriculture or
the textile industries and had a notable economic growth spurt due to the massive
loss in population from the plague. The plague and its effects contradict the basic
rebirth idea of the Renaissance by being the literal opposite of a rebirth and having
the economic growth start from a massive death toll. England was mainly rural
during this period, with only a few pockets of urbanization in the Southern parts of
the country. Since there was a lot of countryside, agriculture was the most popular

The price of goods went down and the standard of living went up. Since agriculture
was the biggest occupation, it affected a large portion of the English population.
However, this economic growth came at the price of large masses of people
dying. Clearly an age which relies for its prosperity upon large numbers of its
members dying at an early age, and suffering the frequent loss of spouses, children,
relatives, friends and colleagues is somewhat less than golden, (Aberth, 70). Even
the economic prosperity came from the opposite of what the Renaissance implies
because the catalyst was death instead of rebirth . England did not have a
Renaissance or a rebirth during the 1300 s to the 1500 s. Instead, England was fairly
typical with having most of its population in rural areas and being rooted in
agriculture and textiles. Even for those not in the agriculture and textile industries,
other aspects associated with the Renaissance, such as the resurgence of classical
education, hardly touched the English. They also suffered a major loss in their
population because of the plague, which helped to caused economic growth but only

Air Firefighting Research Paper
Aerial Firefighting is the process of using different aircrafts to put out fires in
wildlife. They mostly use fixed wing aircrafts and helicopters for Aerial Firefighting.
These aircrafts use, water, water enhancers, things like gels and foams, and most
especially fire retardants that are created to destroy or eliminate the fires that spread
throughout the wild life forests. When using helicopters for Aerial Firefighting,
helicopters are sized with tanks or they carry buckets filled with water. The
helicopters that cargo buckets, dip the buckets in lakes, rivers, or other bodies of
waters, that they then use to spread across the wildfire. The most popular bucket
used with the helicopters are the flexible, Bambi Buckets . When helicopters use
tanks, also known as helitanks , they are infused on the ground with foam or gel.
The fixed wing aircrafts are usually called Airtankers or Water Bombers that are
infused while on the ground at an air tanker base. One benefit of the helicopter is
that it is able to hover over the fire, where it can drop the retardant or water directly
on it. Aerial Firefighting originated in 1947. The US Air Force as well as the US
Forest Service were experimenting during World War II aircrafts by dropping bomb

One single engine air tanker still used today is the Airtractor AT 802F , also
known as the Fire Boss. The fire boss is an agricultural aircraft that is also used for
fire fighting, it scoops up water in its floats, that are then drop on fires. Another one
still used today is the Antonov An 2 biplane which sometimes are fitted with floats,
that scoop water from surfaces of different bodies of water, and then released on the
fires. One benefit of this plane is that, it is a biplane aircraft and not monoplane,
meaning it can more slowly fly over the fires. This is a benefit because it strengthens
the accuracy of the retardant drops and

weaponry were dramatic in the 80 years between the Civil War and World War II.
In the Civil War the soldiers were fighting with rifles with bayonets. By the time
World War II occurred, soldiers had semi automatic rifles and assault rifles. Ironclad
ships made their first appearance during the Civil War(Civil War

canvas. As the war went on, industry developed ships that were clad in iron.
The iron material made these ships stronger and harder to defeat. They still had sails

Submarines were also used in the Civil War. Civil War Technology cited that the first

a propeller with a hand crank. The CSS H. L. Hunley made history by blowing up a
naval mine and sinking the USS Housatonic on the Charleston
Harbor. Afterwards, the CSS H. L. Hunley sank as well.
Hot Air Balloons were used by both sides in the Civil War. Civil War
Technology cited that they were used primarily to determine where the enemy was
and how many soldiers were there (14). The Hot Air Balloons were made to carry
five soldiers at a time. Flagel said that rifles were the most widely used weapon in the

America is a blessed country in numerous ways, and its citizens reap the benefits.
Free education is one major benefit that not many other countries provide for their
citizens. While it is only a privilege to many, but in the States, people have the right

those motivated ones who cherish the privilege to be educated are those who climb
up the success ladders later in life. For a certain majority of students in the States,

Techniques and skills need to be learnt, and cannot be replaced by the convenience of

speed of our technology advancement, but how I desire to see academic advancement
in our next generation.
Kindergarten teachers always earn my greatest respect. In California, the class size
has increased to 22 students for kindergarten to third grade. One teacher versus 22
students, coming from different background and educational level, really is a big
challenge for another to take. Given that some students have gone through preschool
and some who have never had any group experience prior to entering kindergarten,
that creates a gigantic tap among the kids in one class. The first couple months into
the school year, teachers would spend the majority of time establishing structure,
routine, and disciplines. Without these being taken place in the beginning of the
year, teaching is almost an impossible task to accomplish. The class size needs to be
limited to maximize the discipline and the learning, or another option is to have a
teacher s aid in the class to assist the lead teacher. Reduction of class size benefits
both the teachers and the students. With a small size, teachers can better control their
classrooms, and thus, able to allocate
Colombia s Failure To Build A Panama Canal
In 1901, the US negotiated with Britain to construct a canal in Nicaragua or

unwilling to give it away so easily. Only after the US lent aid to a Panamanian
Revolution, much to Colombia s dismay, did Colombia finally accept the terms of
agreement with the Hay Bunau Varilla Treaty in 1903. This gave the US control
over the canal for $10 million along with an annual payment of $250,000. The canal

Increase The Toughness Of Steels After Quenching Process
Abstract:
Tempering is an important heat treating process, which is used to increase the
toughness of steels after quenching process. Hollomon Jaffe equation
H=T(c+logвЃЎt ) is widely used to predict hardness with different tempering
temperature and tempering time. T is the tempering temperature, t is the tempering
time and c is the constant for the specific steel. The physical explanation of c constant
was not clear. In this paper, the hardness and c/a ratio of tempered martensite for AISI
4140 were measured by X Ray Diffraction and Rietveld refinement. The result reveals
that the c/a ratio decreases instantly within the first 60s tempering time. After analysis
based on the experiment results and derivation of Hollomon Jaffe equation, c, the
parameter in Hollomon Jaffe equation, is found to stand for the slope of carbon
hardness curve.
Key words: Tempering, martensite, X ray diffraction, Hollomon Jaffe equation
1. Introduction
All steels that are hardened are subjected to a subcritical heat treatment referred to as
tempering . Tempering improves the toughness of as quenched martensite (body
center tetragonal) but lowers strength and hardness 1, . The microstructure
transformation is very complex: Stage1: The formation of transition carbides and
lowering of the carbon content of the martensite to 0.25% (100 to 250в„ѓ) Stage2:
The transformation of retained austenite to ferrite and cementite (200 to 300в„ѓ)
Stage3: The replacement of transition carbides and low temperature

The Effects Of Addiction On The World Of Warcraft
David Dinh Megan Ozima English 101 2 June 2016 Negative Effects of
Addictions What is the cause of addiction(s)? An addiction is cause by a person s
psychological habit that got developed into the person s mental and physical
condition, in which a person is unable to take control. The reason why people
develop an addiction is because they have psychological, emotional, and
interpersonal problem that they don t want to deal with, so they find alternative
ways to avoid the problems. Some people turn to drugs as a way to escape reality,
but the majority of the people turn to the virtual online world to escape from their
psychological, emotional, and interpersonal problem. A virtual online game that is
currently popular for people to escape their psychological, emotional and
interpersonal problem would be a game called World of Warcraft. World of
Warcraft is a massively multiplayer online role playing game(MMORPG), in which
player have a vast of task they can do, ranging from exploring areas, fight monsters
to level up, quests, interacting and battle with other players to unlocking abilities
and spells. World of Warcraft, like many other MMORPG, is a highly addicting
game. The reason for that is because there are always new things to do, there are a
lot of people to socialize with, and it is a place where a person can go to escape
from reality. World of Warcraft, get people addicted by creating habit(s) to their
consumer causing them to want to play regularly. In the book, The

The Roswell incident is a well known topic around the world. Many have different

The Features Of A Relational Database
P1 Explain the features of a relational database.
Introduction: A company called Ian s Co currently employs a team of IT technicians
to manage their IT infrastructure and also support the IT users. Also quite recently
the company has taken over a similar but a smaller company which is also employs
technical support staff in the same way.
What is a relational database?
Firstly a relational database contains a set of tables which basically are linked
collectively by the relationships between the tables. Also it is also known as reason
such as a database is called relational database.
The purpose of relational database for Ian s Co:
Secondly the purpose of a database for Ian s Co is that basically you can make a lot
of queries, forms, tables, and also even reports so that the users can basically
report hardware trouble across the two cite. Secondly the company Ian s and Co
will also need desk that are also linked to other desks so that they can keep an eye on
the hardware that are having quite a few problems , in addition this will progress
the service which is provided to the users and also to make sure the service is
operated in an efficient way.
What is an entity?
Firstly an entity is basically an entity of significance which data must be captured;
also there are some examples of entities such as stock supplier and order.
Furthermore in relational databases every entity is usually kept in a separate table.

Persuasive Essay On Children With Autism
Autism can be a devastating diagnosis for a parent to hear. It can change a lot of
things in life as we know it. Most Autistic children have a hard time with large
crowds of people and the noise that comes with it. They may get easily up set when
there miss understood. They may experience a meltdown from this. A meltdown can
be anything from screaming to hitting, to even throwing things. A child can also
experience confusion. They can get confused easily if directions are not clear and
precise. These are just some of the everyday struggles a child with autismcan face.
There are many more but, the question is, is medication the way to go about it or
should we try to manage these things by avoiding triggers. Most parents, clinicians
and other workers see medication to be a last resort (Cesaroni, 1995 ). Most parents
and clinicians see psychotropic medication to be the last resort. It is only used to
relieve certain symptoms and may not benefit with what is needed most. When
children are assessed most parents will decline medication for treatment due to the
side effect (Konstantareas, 1995). Some parents just do not want to medicate their
child or are afraid of the changes it could bring to their child. Some children have
mild effects of Autism and are being treated with medication when they could have
done just fine with out the medication. Then there are children that are severely
Autistic and should be medicated and are not due to the parent s decision
Summary Of How The Other Half Lives By Jacob Riis

Book Review: How the Other Half Lives
In How the Other Half Lives by Jacob Riis, Riis reveals and decries the horrific
conditions that the urban poor and immigrants were subjected to as a result of shifts
in the social order brought about by industrialization. Riis, a Danish immigrant
himself, had a heart for the poor and wrote the How the Other Half Lives, also a
photojournalist endeavor, to provide social commentary about urban poverty and the
willingness of the upper class to turn a blind eye and allow the other half to live in
destitution.
In the beginning of the book, Riis sets up New York as the perfect city. He notes the
bustling streets and the relative cleanliness of the city. ... Show more content on

He makes multiple comments against immigrants that are somewhat derogatory
and also brings up some points in the book over and over again. However, although
it may be tedious to read variations of the same topic, when evaluating Riis
strategies from a historical perspective, it makes sense to repeat certain things
constantly as doing so underscores the significance of the topic. For example, Riis
brings up the topic of disorderly conduct multiple times throughout the book. During
the late 1800s, the poor did not have many options when it came to making a
livelihood. Most earned very little and some earned so little that they had to live in
the sewers because they could not afford to live in tenements. To cope with the
pressure of living, the poor turned to alcohol and engaged in illegal activity. Even
young children became involved in thievery because their parents were not making
enough to sustain them. During this time period, alcoholism and crime were very
prominent issues. By bringing up these issues repeatedly, Riis stresses the historical
significance the issues and calls for
Essay on Response to Bitzer s Rhetorical Situation
In The Rhetorical Situation, Lloyd F. Bitzer argues that what makes a situation
rhetorical is similar to that which constitutes a moral action as he writes that, an act
is moral because it is an act performed in a situation of a certain kind; similarly, a
work is rhetorical because it is a response to a situation of a certain kind .(3) By
defining the rhetorical situation in this way, Bitzer further contends that rhetoricis a
means to altering reality. (4) It is through the use of discourse that one is capable of
changing reality through thought and action. (4) Bitzer then elaborates upon the
nature of a rhetorical situation by explaining that rhetorical discourse enters a
situation when: providing a response to its state of affairs;... Show more content on

Although Bitzer continues in the third section of his essay, by outlining the
general characteristics or features of a rhetorical situation, it is his discussion of
sophistical rhetoric that is most interesting. (11) He notes that a sophistic situation
is one where a contrived exigence is, asserted to be real... alleged constituents are
due to error or ignorance,... and [it derives] from fantasy in which exigence,
audience, and constraints may all be imaginary objects of a mind at play . (11) He
concludes that, rhetoric is distinguished from the mere craft of persuasion which,
although it is a legitimate object of scientific investigation, lacks philosophical
warrant as a practical discipline . (14) While Bitzer s insights into how one may
think about the way in which rhetorical discourse acts upon and therefore alters the
reality of a situation, it is difficult to see his point in stating that the mere craft of
persuasion lacks philosophical warrant as a practical discipline. The clearest reason
it seems, is implied from the examples that Bitzer uses, none of which are theological
or religious in nature, but rather the examples he provides are usually political.
Although one is left to speculate as to what categories Bitzer would include in
sophistical rhetoric (other than a play or novel), might theological and religious
discourse be subsumed under

Feminism in William Gibson s Neuromancer Essay
Feminism in Neuromancer
Neuromancer is an amazingly complex novel. Being one of the first of its kind,
Gibson tells a chilling tale of a world where computers, and a thing called the matrix,
become more real than reality. The story, set in the not so distant future, has our hero,
Henry Dorsett Case, embarking on an adventure that stretches the limits of the reader
s imagination. But even though Case is our main character, there are others with as
much or more power and influence. Women play a significant role in aiding Case
throughout his mission. Not only are they noteworthy, they hold most of the power
and at the end, it is a woman who holds the final key. By using the feminist approach

We even find that one of the strongest characters is a woman. Let us analyze these
women and discover how Gibson makes them major characters.
The main female character is Molly, an ex military member, probably Special Forces,
who aids the main character through out the story. She is portrayed as a woman
who is not to be messed with. Because you try and fuck around with me, you ll be
taking on of the stupidest chances of your whole life. (25) This attitude serves her
well through out the novel because she is the one who must infiltrate both the
Sense/Net and Tessier Ashpool. Molly is the only woman on the good guys side
who is physically injured. Even when she is injured, she continues the mission.
Molly is able to do things that the men in the story cannot because she is souped
up, jazzed by the neurosurgeons for combat. (214) Her eyes are video cameras and
she has a clock mounted inside her head. Four millimeter razor claws are concealed
beneath each fingernail and she has the ability to extend and retract them at will.
Her military training has provided her with the ability to fight and execute order with
swiftness and precision. From a feminist approach, she is a positive character. She is
a strong character in a male dominated society. But she is not the only female
character in the novel.

The Theme Of Alienation In The Catcher In The Rye
The Catcher in the Rye has various themes, but each theme is linked to one another. A
major theme in this novel is alienation which revolves around other themes such as
loss of innocence, sentiment, self esteem, phoniness, and the painfulness of leaving
your nest. The protagonist, Holden Caulfield, alienates himself from his world of
phonies to shelter himself from the hectic and cruel stage of the adult world. As
cynical and short tempered Holdenseems, he is really sensitive, has a proclivity for
childhoodinnocence, and suffers from a low self esteem. The problem is that he does
not realize it. As the events in the novel progress, it is perceptible that Holden is very
sentimental because he would complain about how things changed since... Show more

He mentioned how the display glasses looked the same since he was a kid, and
found it admirable. He found his sister and told her about everything and how he
wanted to get out of this city, and she asked him if she could come, but Holden
refused which caused her to get into a fit and storm off. The next day he snuck into
his house without his parents knowledge and talked to Phoebe. She teased him
about how unambitious he is and how he despised everything, calling him
immature and lazy. He then mentioned how he would always dream of being on a
cliff, standing on the edge, and protect little kids from falling off into a hurtful
abyss. Once again, this is just the superficial meaning. What Holden sub consciously
means is that he wants to protect little children, that are in their childhood, from
falling into the abyss, which is the painful world of growing up and being an adult.
This shows how sentimental Holden is about childhoods and innocence, and how
adulthood is like plummeting from a cliff to your death. All he wants to do is
preserve that for other younger children. Holden then takes Phoebe to a park where
she rides the carousel several times, and Holden just sat on the bench with his red
hunting hat while it was raining. And at that moment, Holden felt sheer happiness
and smiled at his sister, wistfully, which made him feel like he accomplished his goal.

In Defense Of Bottled Water By Thomas J. Lauria
Bottled Water Versus Cost According to The Water Project, Bottles used to
package water take over 1,000 years to bio degrade and if incinerated, they produce
toxic fumes. It is estimated that over 80% of all single use water bottles used in the
U.S. simply become litter ( Bottled Water is Wasteful ). This fact is not the only
reason I believe that bottled waterdoes not outweigh its costs. Although statistics
show that bottled water is efficient, there are many reasons to believe otherwise. As
aforementioned, there are explanations to believe that bottled water does outweigh
its repercussions. Thomas J. Lauria, author of In Defense of Bottled Water , states,
Bottled water provides a healthy choice when tap water is not accessible ( In
Defense of Bottled Water ). In this article, Lauria states that bottled water is a topic
of great interest. He goes on to discuss that in the United States, Adults consume
450 calories a day from beverages and sixty eight percent of those twenty years old
and older are classified as overweight or obese, bottled water provides a healthy
choice when tap water is not accessible, preferred, or convenient ( In Defense of
Bottled Water ). Sure, this is fact and definitely a benefit to bottled water. Lauria
continues to say that if bottled water is not offered then people will be more likely
to choose soda, juices, or options similar to those. He says that banning bottled water
will urge people to consume unhealthy beverages because
Sitcom And Stereotypes
Sitcom is a genre of comedy centred on characters shared the same environment
(situation). It s also a type of television series. The two conventions in the sitcom are
circular narrative and stereotype.
Circular narrative is a special structure of sitcom which suggests that an episode of
sitcom should have beginning, muddle which is that the problem can t be solved
too early, character has to be failed before they succeed and ending. The circular
narrative follows that at the beginning of the sitcom there is an equilibrium, and then
there will be a disruption which is to break the equilibrium, and then is the
developing of that disruption, next is the restored order which is to solved the
problem, in the end the problem should be solved, after ... Show more content on

Stereotype helps audiences can get the characters quickly without knowing their
background information. For example, audiences knew that the stereotype of Gloria
is ditzy blonde, they could know that she won t help her husband so much. In the Big
Bang Theory, people knew that the stereotype of Sheldon is nerd, so they will
know his IQ is high, they could predict that he is not so good at socialising.
Stereotype also can bring a positive influence, for example, in the Modern Family,
there is stereotype of gay family. Gay family is unfamiliar with some of us, and
Modern Family showed that gay family is the same as other family, they are normal.
It helps people to admire the character or change thoughts about that stereotype. For
example, some people might think nerd is totally social akward, but in the big bang
theory, the stereotype nerd was portrayed a group of clever people and they are
normal. Stereotype also helps audiences to predict the conflict between two
stereotypes. For example, Penny and Amy, a ditzy blonde and a female scientist .
Audiences could predict there will be a conflict between them on loving a man and
the way the
The Gap Between Blacks and Whites Test Scores
The Gap Between Blacks and Whites Test Scores
The gap as referred to in the title, is the distribution of the scores on achievement
tests that differ between black and white students in the United States. The
purpose of this study was to record the degree of the gap in achievement scores,
decide how much of the racial gap is due to social class, how the gap differed in the
30 year period, and how that which is credited to the social class has changed over
the years. Differences in social class, family structure, and discrimination against
blacks as a disgraced group are all proposed causes for the black white gap in test
scores. If the gap is caused by a difference in social class or family structure, then

Answer: The authors compared the degree of the gaps before and after they
adjusted for social class. 3. How have the gaps changed over time? Answer: The
authors calculated the gaps from data in cross sections over a 30 year period and
studied the trend over time. 4. Is the portion of each gap that is independent of social
class changing over time? Answer: Yes, the authors contrasted the rate of changeover
time in the social class adjusted gaps. These surveys give convincing evidence that
the gaps have decreased over time, but are still widely spread. The authors
conclude that it would take over 50 years to close the gap in reading achievement
scores and over a century to close the gap in mathematics and science achievement
scores. The adjusted gaps for social class, family structure, and community
variables were closing from 1965 1992. At this rate of change over the entire
period, they would close in the same amount of time as the unadjusted gaps. The
rate of change for the unadjusted gaps seem to have reversed after 1972. These
results do not give a lot of support to the theory that the gaps in average test scores
are caused by the differences in social class and family structure. Thus, it supports the
theory that the gaps in test scores are an outcome of other factors, such as
discrimination.
Canis Major Explanation
My favorite Constellation is Canis Major, the Great Dog. It is located in the
southern sky and it contains Sirius, the Dog Star. I chose this constellation because
of the fact that it contains the Dog Star. I also like this constellation because it looks
like it is following or chasing Orion. Canis Major was catalogued by the Greek
Astronomer Ptolemy in the 2nd Century. This Constellations is the 43rd largest
constellation, taking up an area of 380 square degrees.
Canis Major is associated with the fastest dog in the world, Laelaps. Laelaps and a
javelin that could never miss were given by Zeus to Europa. However, the gift
backfired when Europa was accidentally killed by her husband, Cephalus, who was
out hunting with the javelin. Cepahlus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Does Macbeth Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely
Lord Acton once said, Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely .
Examples of power going corrupt can be found everywhere, from book to television
shows to real life. In his article, How Power Corrupts, Ronald Riggo explains that
there are two types of power, socialized and personalized. He further elaborates that
a balance of both is healthy for a ruler to have, but it becomes a problem when
personalized poweroverwhelms social power. Personalized power is defined as
power that is used for one s personal gain. In the play Macbeth written by William
Shakespeare, Macbeth uses his power to kill anyone he dislikes, including his own
friend Banquo. Macbeth abuses his power for his own gain, as he kills Banquo due
to the witches
Sociological Speculation through Theory
A)Socialist feminism argues that both men and women may also believe that
economic and emotional dependence go hand in hand. Fearful of the loss of
economic security, a husband s power over his wife is absolute. An example of
this characteristic from the socialist branch can be seen in my own personal life.
When I was growing up, I experienced how my father would completely disregard
my mother and her duties serving the household and the family, as she was a stay
at home mom and my father worked and got paid for his labor. Her domestic work
was trivialized as my father felt that he was doing real work. Because of this, my
mother was quite submissive towards my father s behavior because she felt that
she needed him for financial security and that she could not be capable of anything
without him. B)Liberal feminists believe society does not have to be completely
restructured to achieve empowerment for women and to incorporate women into
meaningful and equitable roles. An example of this characteristic from the liberal
branch is seen in the political system in the United States. It is harder for women to
advance in politics due to the fact that it is a realm that has been dominated by men
for a long period of time. In today s day and age, we see more female politicians
coming to the forefront, and are dissolving the notion that politics only involves men
by showing that they too are knowledgeable and interested in the political processes.
This demonstrates liberal

show unintelligence. Many people, more specifically protesters, believe one side
and won t open up and listen to the other side. Frank Bruni, an Op Ed Columnist for
the New York Times and the author of 3 New York Times best sellers in 2015, 2009,
and 2002, tells us that the college protesters are wrong. His argument states that the
college students need to be educated more on the whole subject because lacking
educationcan essentially lead to being biased or sticking with the one side you
believe in. The students were protesting a guest speaker, Charles Murray, who is
identified as anti gay, racist, and sexist. Although the guest speaker s beliefs are
terrible, the students should hear what he has to say. Frank Bruni s The Dangerous
Saftey of College presents an effective logical appeal; however, it lacks clear and
concise evidence along with not presenting an emotional appeal to connect with the
audience. Frank Bruni gives prominent evidence to back up his claim and referrers
himself with the audience to show that college protesters should remember the
purpose of education, but where is the connection between the audience and Frank? A
connection draws the audience in and allows them to feel more understanding with
the authors claim. In The Dangerous Safety of College the connection is unclear

Discipline Policy In Noble Schools
Those of you that have been to school probably remember having to follow the
rules or else you would have to face the wrath of the discipline policy. While it is
true that the discipline policy that is used in Noble schools is effective, I believe
that the discipline policy that should be used at K.M.S. is the policy used at Urban
Prep Academies which reward students for good behavior instead of punishing them
for misbehavior. The reason I choose this discipline policy is because the other
discipline plan hurts low income families, the other discipline plan is too harsh, and
this policy is more productive.
First of all, in the article entitled Pay Up in paragraph 6, it states ...critics say fees
are unfair to students, most of whom live in low income families. And in paragraph
11 it says, Even so, Matthew Mayer, a professor in the graduate school of education
at Rutgers University, said a fine is highly inappropriate because it likely has no
bearing on students academic performance and hurts low income families. Both
pieces of evidence explain that because of the discipline policy that makes students
pay fees for misbehavior, low income families are economically hurt. The result is
that the student will have to enroll in another school ... Show more content on

The graphic organizer allows students to inform their teacher what they know, what
they want to know, and what they learned. This was the only constructivism observed
in the class. Due to time constraints, the teacher does not have enough time to go
more in depth with the students with the concepts to evoke more meaningful learning.
The students in this class could benefit from more class discussions to elicit a better
understanding of the subject matter. The worksheets that the students work with have
very little relevance in their lives, which only adds frustration to the learning process.
With time being the main reason that there is a lack of constructivism, the teacher
could look into alternative approaches. One approach that might work well in this
classroom is problem based learning. The students are inquisitive and innovative.
Classroom distractions would be lowered, and the students would be actively engaged
in their learning.
Theories of Intelligence Howard Gardner s theory of multiple intelligence s (MI
theory) is a valuable resource for teachers, if they understood how they could apply
this in the classroom (Snowman McCown, 2012). In this class, there are multiple
intelligences observed amongst the students; however, there is minimal differentiated
instruction to allow the students the best opportunities for success. It is critical that
teachers understand that their teaching methods may not be wrong, but they
Management Executive Summary
1.Executive Summary
A comfortable atmosphere provides a place where the customer can work, meet,
relax or enjoy a healthy choice of bread. Freshly brewed coffee, expresso drinks,
frozen coffee drinks, specialty teas and other beverages, along with assorted bakery,
lunch and desert items make this a place to go and relax anytime of the day.
2.Current Situation Barriers to Entry
The major barrier to entry for a specialty bakery is the perception that healthy food
tastes worse than unhealthy food. Since the population that would shop exclusively
at a specialty bakery is very limited, it would be a huge disadvantage to exclude the
general population based on this negative public perception. Capital requirements

Changing Attitudes During World War I
I Think during the war the attitude towards the two didn t change much. However
later in the years, there attitudes changed for one another. This seems to be an issue
with many groups. The childhood friends and acquaintances, and his father s non
Jewish contacts changed as time went on too. Many people s actions towards other
changed during the war times. A thing that got me in Toivi Blatt was the
deportation of people who were younger than 15 and older than 55. I couldn t
fathom the thought of losing my parents if I was 8 years old or the thought of my
parents sending me off to an unknown place. Wondering if we would ever be
reunited. Before the war, there was a big push on getting the kids out of the country
and at this time. It would be
Personal Narrative-The Insanity Of A Video Production
Company
If you have ever involved yourself with video production companies you are aware
that they can be frustrating. When I say frustration, the point I m trying to emphasize
on is that there are several to choose from, which makes it difficult and annoying
finding the right one. The finality of the experience will literally create insanity or
drinking excessively.
I was in the market for a professional video production company to help with some
infomercial companies. Literally, there are hundreds of companies to select from on
the internet. Every single one of those so called companies promised to do exactly
what I wanted. Of course, they ll say anything to get your business. When in actuality,
these companies hire immature employees with no experience, or knowledge of the
task at hand. Yeah,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though I was only concerned with production videos for my infomercial
companies, I found myself intrigued at what other services they were offering. If I
ever have the need for another venture I will be calling them first. By bypassing the
headaches in the first place, my life will be so much easier and give me time to
concentrate on what I do excel in.
I almost forgot to include my end results. When I received the finished videos I
couldn t contain myself and my enthusiasm. My videos exceeded far beyond my
expectations. I was so excited to get them up and running. I just knew from the
quality and sincere dedication that they were going to be well received by the
public. My infomercial companies are thriving and I am beginning to receive a lot
of positive feedback. Success is just within my grasp; it s hard not to boast about a
company who has created excellence.
Please take my advice, before you go on a mad hunt to find a production company
that is not all cracked up to be what they say they are, first call Vertex Media. I ve
provided the companies contact information to make the process

How Long Has The Earth s Tilt Changes The Seasons
The earth s tilt changes the seasons every time it rotates around the sun.
The temperature is based on how far or how close the earth is to the sun.The earth s
climate and the winds in the atmosphere continue to change every day. Every year the
winds change causing different weather patterns to act on the solid earth. The earth s
spin axis is tilted at 23.5 with respect to the elliptic giving moderate seasons and
preventing temperature extremes anywhere on earth.
Because of the earth s dynamic climate ,winds and atmospheric pressure systems
experience constant change. These fluctuations may affect how our planet rotates on
it s axis. The earth s systems and its response to natural and human induced
changes, like global warming and greenhouse gases for the better prediction of
climate. Other motions of the atmosphere such as larger mass in one hemisphere
than the other hemisphere can lead to a wobble and the poles move. There are no
forces that are acting on it that would be strong enough to keep it moving with the
ground. Each point on the Earth is not the same distance from the axis of rotation, so
the speed of rotation is 0 mph at the poles, and increases to over 1000 mph at the
equator. This means the atmosphere would have to be moving at different speeds
depending on where it was, which would result in a pressure gradient with highest
pressure at the poles and the lowest pressure at the equator. ... Show more content on

territory sought out to respect civil liberties by outlawing slavery , reforming the
education platform and is considered one of the most important legislative acts of
the confederation congress. Thomas Jefferson was a key player as he created a

Northwest Ordinancecame into place, a new legislation which expanded the original
13 states westward not only acquiring land, but provided a framework for
educational organization and political incorporation in the new territories. All it took
was a proposition, an idea by a Virginia delegate by the name of Thomas Jefferson.

and distinguished family. Jefferson served his country for over five decades, he was
a public official, philosopher, historian and even a plantation owner. His interests in
law led him to serve the local government as a magistrate, county lieutenant and as a

accomplishments and contributions include , but are not limited to the Louisiana
Purchase in 1803 , his support towards the Lewis and Clark Expedition, abolishing,

Speech On Vegans
Is it healthy to be a vegan? Every single day, people decide to adopt a vegan diet.
Every person who adopts this diet usually has a different reason for their change of
lifestyle. Whether it be to lose weight, or to simply just follow a trend. The amount
of people who are becoming vegan is increasing exponentially. Vegan diets are
growing in popularity today among teenagers and youth, in especially females. A
nationwide poll conducted in April 2006 by Harris Interactive reported that 1.4% of
the American population is vegan, in that they eat no meat, fish, dairy, or eggs. To
the naked eye of society, becoming a vegan is a healthy lifestyle choice, but there are
major health advantages to this trendy way of living that you may have not have...

In order to seek the amazing health benefits from veganism, one must be proper with
their diets to thrive. Firstly, many vegans are potentially at risk for vitamin B 12
deficiency due to the absence of nutrients from the foods they choose not to eat. In
order to avoid this deficiency, vegans should regularly consume vitamin B 12
fortified foods, such as fortified soy and rice beverages, breakfast cereals, and B
12 fortified nutritional yeast, or take a daily vitamin B 12 supplement. Secondly, by
becoming a vegan, many lose a lot of the calcium that they usually receive from a
non vegan diet. In order to make up for this loss of calcium, one should eat green
leafy vegetables, tofu, tahini, calcium fortified orange and apple juices, soy and rice
beverages and soy milk. Thirdly, by becoming a vegan, one may lose a lot of
nutrients from the fatty acid ALA. In order to make up for this loss, one must eat
foods such as ground flaxseed, walnuts, canola oil, soy products and hemp seed
based beverages. In order to be a vegan that is healthy and beneficial towards the
prevention of disease and illness, one must make sure their diet makes up for the
losses of nutrients that one would gain from a non vegan

A Political Cartoon Analysis
Having a Master s degree would be nice. After completing 4 years of college and
then going back for a master s degree and graduating with that is an amazing
accomplishment. There is so man benefits that come with this high degree, more
money, better jobs, and more education in the particular work field as the masters.
Let s get this straight, though, going back for a master s degree costs a lot of money.
Just to get a bachelor s degree cost a lot of money so going back to college for more
years will cost a lot more. That s the only downfall of getting a master s degree, the
price. In the political cartoon about a master s degree, the author makes it clear of
the downfall of getting that degree which is the price. He uses color, layout, and
characters to make this point very clear. The first notice of this picture is the color
of it. It is not in pretty colors whatsoever. It is two colors, blackand white. When
people see black and gray, most people think about back in the day when times were
tough and money was scarce. The black part of the picture brings out the gloom...

In the cartoon, the certain objects and how they are placed shows how the big
picture of the cartoon is proven. When looking at the cartoon, there is a big hand
coming from the top right corner, on the hand, it says lender. Attached to the hand
is a chain which is connected to the hands of the graduate. This chain is handcuffed
to the graduate s hand symbolizing that the graduate is stuck and will not be going
anywhere. Also in the photo, the graduate is holding a diploma, but instead of it
saying congratulations, it says DEBT written across it. This depicts that the
graduate, since going for a master s degree, is now in debt. These objects in the
image make it very clear that getting a master s degree will cost a lot of money. The
last rhetorical element that proves the author s point is the characters in the

Essay Describe A Person. College essay: Describe a person personality essay

  • 1. Essay Describe A Person Writing an essay about describing oneself might initially seem like a straightforward task, as who knows oneself better than the person in question? However, the challenge lies in striking the right balance between self-awareness and objectivity. It's not merely a recitation of personal traits and accomplishments but a nuanced exploration that requires introspection. The difficulty arises from the delicate dance between humility and confidence. It's crucial to present oneself authentically without veering into self-aggrandizement or self-deprecation. Striking this balance demands careful consideration of one's strengths and weaknesses, acknowledging achievements without sounding boastful, and recognizing flaws without being overly critical. Another challenge is avoiding clichГ©s and generic descriptions. Adjectives like "hardworking," "dedicated," or "friendly" can easily become clichГ©d without specific examples or anecdotes to back them up. It's about providing vivid, tangible details that bring the person to life on paper, making the reader connect with the individual on a deeper level. Moreover, maintaining a coherent and engaging narrative can be challenging. Describing oneself involves weaving a cohesive story, whether chronological or thematic, that captures the essence of who the person is. This requires a keen sense of storytelling, ensuring that the essay flows smoothly from one point to the next. Additionally, the essay should transcend the surface level and delve into the deeper aspects of one's personality, values, and aspirations. It's not just about listing accomplishments but reflecting on the experiences that shaped those achievements and how they contribute to personal growth. In conclusion, writing an essay about describing oneself is no easy feat. It demands a delicate balance of self-awareness, objectivity, humility, and confidence. It requires avoiding clichГ©s, providing specific details, and crafting a compelling narrative that goes beyond the surface. Ultimately, it's an introspective journey that challenges the writer to present themselves authentically. If you find this task daunting, remember that assistance is available, and similar essays and more can be ordered on platforms like HelpWriting.net. Essay Describe A PersonEssay Describe A Person
  • 2. Edward Zwick Glory The courage displayed by the actors in Glory made the historic movie better for me to see. Glory was made in 1989 when Mathew Broderick, Morgan Freeman, Andre Braugher, Tihni Kennedy, and Dezel Washington became known actors to American s. The movie was directed by Edward Zwick, and Zwick accurately portrays the movie in the right frame. He is able to accurately depict the civil war and use clothes used in that time frame. Zwick also used actors who were engaged into their job and indicated the time frame with scar marks on Trip. Not only did the actors make the music entertaining, but the music brought the movie in. The music was able to help the viewer know when a scene was happy or dramatic. The movie, Glory, is an accurate depiction of the civil war with accuracy, acting, and music.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the opening scene, people are playing baseball. Baseball, a sport, was invented during the time of the civil war. I love Zwick putting American s past time in the beginning of the movie. In my view, he was able to catch the viewer s attention by showing baseball and telling some American s that the movie was about the Civil War. One of the other things he was accurate about was the clothes. On the confederate s side (South), the people had dirty clothes and there were some black soldiers. The South did not have much people fighting in the army, so the people who had to come in were the slaves from the southern plantations. While the south had dirty clothes, the union (North) had blue suits. Additionally, the North did not have as many black soldiers because the North had many people in their army. There were many people in the North because of working conditions and slavery was prohibited. During the Battle of Antietam, the movie portrays the clothes on the confederate and union side
  • 3. The Lusitania Dead Wake The Lusitania was a ship that sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, several times, during World War One. The tragic accident took the lives of many, and pushed America to enter the war. In Dead Wake , accounts from the press, the captain, and passengers make up a lot of the text. The novel explains the events leading up to the sinking, how there was much worry that a German U boat would attack from below. Sadly it did, and passengers died. Despite being warned about the dangers, many chose to sail in it. The title Dead Wake is very fitting for the novel because many people die, they die from a shipwreck, The Lusitania was a boat, and because even though many lives were lost the memory of them and of the accident still lives on today. Dead Wake is a wonderful title for the novel for many reasons, one being that when the Lusitania sank, thousands died. Everyone knew that it was not a safe trip, but took it anyways; The Lusitania is doomed it read. Do not sail on her (Larson 93). Many sailed to get closer to family, but the problem was they were sailing on an English ship in German waters. The risk factor was definitely there, and it proved to be true. Countless lives were taken, and the worst part was that it could have been avoided. The results of this voyage were stark, and few survived the U boat attack.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Lusitania, being a ship, left a wake behind it. Being a very large ship, it had a very large wake. This could also signify the great amount of loss that occurred. A large wake is a symbol for large loss. Moreover, the technology of that time was not as great as it is now so no one knew what was lurking in the fathoms below the wake. Captains had no way to tell if there was a U boat beneath them or
  • 4. Theodore Roosevelt . Introduction To The Life Of Theodore THEODORE ROOSEVELT Introduction to the Life of Theodore Roosevelt Theodore Roosevelt was born October 27, 1858 in New York City to Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Bulloch. Theodore was also known as Teedie or Teddy. Due to his continuing battle with health issues, which started at birth, Roosevelt was homeschooled along with his siblings. The family house also had a gymnasium where he lifted weights and boxed to help him gain strength. Despite what appeared to be a sickly and weak child, Roosevelt went on to accomplish many great things scholastically, physically and politically. He graduated from Harvard University, published several books, won many awards, and left a lasting impression in the military as well as during his presidency.... Roosevelt would go on to lead the group to victory, but sadly many soldiers would die due to yellow fever, lack of food and supplies and unsanitary camps. Roosevelt would be remembered for the Round Robin letter he sent asking for the U.S. troops to be removed from Cuba. After the soldiers were brought home, Americans called Roosevelt a national hero for bringing them home safely.2 Roosevelt would be called a war hero and receive a nomination for the Medal of Honor. He was elected as governor of New York in 1898.1 The Republican political machine in New York supported Roosevelt for governor. However, once he was elected governor, it was clear to them that he had no interest in listening to their ideas or following their ways. This would lead Roosevelt into becoming the running mate for McKinley in the presidential election, in hopes of preventing a second governor term for the once loved war hero. McKinley would go on to win the election and Roosevelt would become the Vice President, but this was short lived. On September 6, 1901 McKinley was tragically shot and killed. Roosevelt would now become the 26th president and the youngest president in the nation s history at age 42. Under his first term as president Roosevelt would have many successes.4 He acted against

That is what some people are saying that violence in the media is the cause of that. The controversy of the effects that violence has on people has been going on for a long time. This paper is going to prove both sides of the controversy and let one decide which side is right. Violence is on the news and on everyday action shows. Theses everyday shows are targeted for the kids of the world who are in the stages which are important for their lives. At this point in their lives the kids can make life changing decisions the violence on TV has some effects on that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I can state that I watched a lot of violent TV shows when I was younger and I don t see the world as being dark or sinister. One of the main reasons I believe that that happened is that my parents were able to talk to me and got me looking up at them. I am not sure what would have happened if I didn t have my parents doing that when I was younger I could have been one of those statistics. Parents have just as much weight in their child s life as the violence on TVs. Boys who watch more than 25 hours of television per week are significantly less likely to be aroused by real world violence than those boys who watch 4 hours or less per week. If you see someone get bet up in front of you how would you react? I know if I saw someone getting hurt in real life I would try helping that person out. That isn t due to the fact that I have seen a lot of violence on TV it s because I am a caring person that likes to help out the needy. That is another fight that shows that if you are brought up by a caring family you could end up not acting violent. Children are more likely to mimic positive behaviors 87 per cent of kids do so. This is proving that if you bring your children up properly then they won t act violent but I don t want to blame it all on the parents. The people that your kids hang out with also have a effect on how

  • 8. Overcrowding and Urban Planning in Victorian London Essay Victorian London in Charles Dickens era was a city suffering under the weight of the masses of people that lived there. In Dickens time, London was the largest city in the world, both due to its population increase and the urban sprawl caused by influx of so many people. There were nearly 4 million inhabitantsof the Great City at the height of the Victorian age. This number was an increase of nearly three million people over a period of approximately 30 years, there were many problems associated with such explosive growth, problems which were most recognizable during Charles Dickens lifetime. Dyos writes in his book, Exploring the Urban Past: Essays in urban history, of the Select Committee of 1838: other public benefits might in some cases be derived simultaneously with that principal object ,(1) in particular the partial clearance of the Rookery of St. Giles by means of an extension of Oxford Street to Hart Street. They based these conclusions on a mass of evidence they had taken on the desirability of improved both public health and morals, and they had been regaled by the first hand accounts of the brutish horrors of slum life in various parts of central London. It was hardly surprising, therefore, that they insisted that the most important improvements . . . are in direct proportion to the degree in which they embrace all the great purposes of amendment in respect of health and morals . . . by the removal of congregations of vice and misery, and the introduction of a better police.(2) (Dyos 86) As a result of overcrowding, the sanitation issue had to be contended with first and foremost. The expansion and improvement of the streets, and the expansion of the rail system (including the Underground) would in turn lead to implementation of the sewer system (which in London emptied into the Thames.) When new streets were being planned or tramways being laid (for the omnibuses), the main concern was not for aesthetics, but for sanitation. When questioned by the Royal Commission on Metropolitan
  • 9. Entering The Class, English Comp Entering the class, english comp. one, I had many fears as to what the class would be like. I had no idea what to expect as a senior in highschool. During the past english classes I had, we wrote papers, just not a different one every day. Going into english comp. one, I figured it would be the same method in english just like the past classes I had. On the very first day in the class, I quickly found out that I would have to buckle down a little more than I have been in the past. I knew then, from what Mrs. Garth had told us, that I was going to have many weaknesses while writingmy papers, but I would also have many strengths from what I had learned in the past about writing. In August, our first day in the college class, Mrs. Garth talked with the class about what this semester was going to be like. She spoke to us as college students and not little children. She told us that Comp. was all about writing. As a class, we knew there would be more writing than we were use to, but the very first paperthat Mrs. Garth told us to write was unlike any other paper I had ever wrote on my own. We were told to write about our favorite foods, our not so favorite foods, or a tragedy that has happened to us in our life. Of course, I wrote about the tragedy, my paper was written on the note of my grandmother passing away. I used very descriptive details in my writing about what the days were like for me and how I felt after she was gone. While writing the paper, I thought to myself
  • 10. How Planned was the Soviet Economy Essay How Planned was the Soviet Economy As Marxists claim that capitalism is anarchic, planless, inefficient and wastes human and natural resources , what with the modern advances made by Russia in such a short space of time, one would assume that the Soviet economy between 1924 and 1939 was meticulously planned and controlled. However, many facts would beg to differ and instead suggest the contrary. It is true that institutes of planning existed in Russia in the period concerned. As of July 1922, VSNKh operated its control over industry by methods of a production planning character . The institution was responsible for the drafting of production and disposal plans amongst other things. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One must not overlook the timing of the First Plan and brand it an accident. The Left Opposition had originally proposed rapid industrialization to be the part s primary priority. Now that they had been defeated the government was able to adopt their industrialization policies without putting them in power. Industrialization also came hand in hand with collectivisation as machinery such as tractors had to be produced. 1921 to 1927 were the years of the NEP.VSNKh can be said to have just regulated the economy during the NEP as opposed to doing anything else. However in all fairness, it is difficult to even talk about a planned economy between the years of 1924 and 1928, whatever the role of the state planning institutions, as the state did not run the most effective parts of the economy. The state s ability to plan was greatly hindered by the fact that it ran heavy industry and not agriculture. Between 1921 and 1927 the state industrial sector stagnated while agriculture flourished in the private sector. The 1921 famine had led to a decline in the amount of land sown in the following year due to a shortage of seed and peasants fit to work in the affected provinces. However, the harvest in 1922 was of an acceptable standard, with the land sown in the following year just short of 90 per cent of the pre war level. Although at this time the
  • 11. What Is The Difference Between Political Patronage And Merit In looking at how political patronage and merit system and how they differ the answer is simple. However, there is much controversy in both. According to The Craft of Public Administration, written by George Berkley and John Rouse states that, The selection of civil servants by merit and by political patronage are not mutually exclusives . What this is basically saying is that while the two may have the same relation to each other political patronage and the merit system limits control and can exclude others from participation. In this paper I will discuss the history of political patronage and merit system, attempt to explain how they differ, and why both are of relative importance to the other. Simply put it is the privilege of special treatment, recompenses such as public jobs, contracts, subsidies, benefits by a person in office or someone who is trying to gain an office. However, it must be understood that the type of political patronage that she was involved in was done on a more globalized scale and involved a foundation created by Hillary and her husband, former president, Bill Clinton. • 12. John Paston Rebirth There was no Renaissance in England during the 1300 s to the 1500 s. England at this time was more rural and lacked the artistic or classical resurgence that is Renaissance is often defined by. Most of its economy was based in agriculture or the textile industries and had a notable economic growth spurt due to the massive loss in population from the plague. The plague and its effects contradict the basic rebirth idea of the Renaissance by being the literal opposite of a rebirth and having the economic growth start from a massive death toll. England was mainly rural during this period, with only a few pockets of urbanization in the Southern parts of the country. Since there was a lot of countryside, agriculture was the most popular occupation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The price of goods went down and the standard of living went up. Since agriculture was the biggest occupation, it affected a large portion of the English population. However, this economic growth came at the price of large masses of people dying. Clearly an age which relies for its prosperity upon large numbers of its members dying at an early age, and suffering the frequent loss of spouses, children, relatives, friends and colleagues is somewhat less than golden, (Aberth, 70). Even the economic prosperity came from the opposite of what the Renaissance implies because the catalyst was death instead of rebirth . England did not have a Renaissance or a rebirth during the 1300 s to the 1500 s. Instead, England was fairly typical with having most of its population in rural areas and being rooted in agriculture and textiles. Even for those not in the agriculture and textile industries, other aspects associated with the Renaissance, such as the resurgence of classical education, hardly touched the English. They also suffered a major loss in their population because of the plague, which helped to caused economic growth but only due to immense
  • 13. Air Firefighting Research Paper Aerial Firefighting is the process of using different aircrafts to put out fires in wildlife. They mostly use fixed wing aircrafts and helicopters for Aerial Firefighting. These aircrafts use, water, water enhancers, things like gels and foams, and most especially fire retardants that are created to destroy or eliminate the fires that spread throughout the wild life forests. When using helicopters for Aerial Firefighting, helicopters are sized with tanks or they carry buckets filled with water. The helicopters that cargo buckets, dip the buckets in lakes, rivers, or other bodies of waters, that they then use to spread across the wildfire. The most popular bucket used with the helicopters are the flexible, Bambi Buckets . When helicopters use tanks, also known as helitanks , they are infused on the ground with foam or gel. The fixed wing aircrafts are usually called Airtankers or Water Bombers that are infused while on the ground at an air tanker base. One benefit of the helicopter is that it is able to hover over the fire, where it can drop the retardant or water directly on it. Aerial Firefighting originated in 1947. In the Civil War the soldiers were fighting with rifles with bayonets. By the time World War II occurred, soldiers had semi automatic rifles and assault rifles. Ironclad ships made their first appearance during the Civil War(Civil War Technology 7). In the beginning of the Civil War all ships were made of wood and canvas. Hunley made history by blowing up a naval mine and sinking the USS Housatonic on the Charleston Harbor. Afterwards, the CSS H. L. Hunley sank as well. Hot Air Balloons were used by both sides in the Civil War. Civil War Technology cited that they were used primarily to determine where the enemy was and how many soldiers were there (14). The Hot Air Balloons were made to carry five soldiers at a time. Flagel said that rifles were the most widely used weapon in the Civil War (100 101). Free education is one major benefit that not many other countries provide for their citizens. While it is only a privilege to many, but in the States, people have the right to be educated. However, free education cannot be translated to success for all. For those motivated ones who cherish the privilege to be educated are those who climb up the success ladders later in life. For a certain majority of students in the States, our current educational system may not seem to serve its purpose. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Techniques and skills need to be learnt, and cannot be replaced by the convenience of technology. In the primary years, students ought to be grounded with the basics. Once they miss this window, it requires them more to be trained later in life. I marvel at the speed of our technology advancement, but how I desire to see academic advancement in our next generation. Kindergarten teachers always earn my greatest respect. In California, the class size has increased to 22 students for kindergarten to third grade. One teacher versus 22 students, coming from different background and educational level, really is a big challenge for another to take. Given that some students have gone through preschool and some who have never had any group experience prior to entering kindergarten, that creates a gigantic tap among the kids in one class. The first couple months into the school year, teachers would spend the majority of time establishing structure, routine, and disciplines. Without these being taken place in the beginning of the year, teaching is almost an impossible task to accomplish. The class size needs to be limited to maximize the discipline and the learning, or another option is to have a teacher s aid in the class to assist the lead teacher. Although the negotiations were successful and plans to build this canal through Panama were permitted by the Senate, Colombia owned the land, and was unwilling to give it away so easily. Only after the US lent aid to a Panamanian Revolution, much to Colombia s dismay, did Colombia finally accept the terms of agreement with the Hay Bunau Varilla Treaty in 1903. • 18. Increase The Toughness Of Steels After Quenching Process Abstract: Tempering is an important heat treating process, which is used to increase the toughness of steels after quenching process. Hollomon Jaffe equation H=T(c+logвЃЎt ) is widely used to predict hardness with different tempering temperature and tempering time. T is the tempering temperature, t is the tempering time and c is the constant for the specific steel. The physical explanation of c constant was not clear. In this paper, the hardness and c/a ratio of tempered martensite for AISI 4140 were measured by X Ray Diffraction and Rietveld refinement. The result reveals that the c/a ratio decreases instantly within the first 60s tempering time. After analysis based on the experiment results and derivation of Hollomon Jaffe equation, c, the parameter in Hollomon Jaffe equation, is found to stand for the slope of carbon hardness curve. Key words: Tempering, martensite, X ray diffraction, Hollomon Jaffe equation 1. Introduction All steels that are hardened are subjected to a subcritical heat treatment referred to as tempering . Tempering improves the toughness of as quenched martensite (body center tetragonal) but lowers strength and hardness 1, . The microstructure transformation is very complex: Stage1: The formation of transition carbides and lowering of the carbon content of the martensite to 0.25% (100 to 250в„ѓ) Stage2: The transformation of retained austenite to ferrite and cementite (200 to 300в„ѓ) Stage3: The replacement of transition carbides and low temperature

Most Autistic children have a hard time with large crowds of people and the noise that comes with it. They may get easily up set when there miss understood. They may experience a meltdown from this. A meltdown can be anything from screaming to hitting, to even throwing things. A child can also experience confusion. They can get confused easily if directions are not clear and precise. These are just some of the everyday struggles a child with autismcan face. There are many more but, the question is, is medication the way to go about it or should we try to manage these things by avoiding triggers. Most parents, clinicians and other workers see medication to be a last resort (Cesaroni, 1995 ). Most parents and clinicians see psychotropic medication to be the last resort. It is only used to relieve certain symptoms and may not benefit with what is needed most. When children are assessed most parents will decline medication for treatment due to the side effect (Konstantareas, 1995). For example, Riis brings up the topic of disorderly conduct multiple times throughout the book. During the late 1800s, the poor did not have many options when it came to making a livelihood. Most earned very little and some earned so little that they had to live in the sewers because they could not afford to live in tenements. Even young children became involved in thievery because their parents were not making enough to sustain them. During this time period, alcoholism and crime were very prominent issues. • 25. Essay on Response to Bitzer s Rhetorical Situation In The Rhetorical Situation, Lloyd F. Bitzer argues that what makes a situation rhetorical is similar to that which constitutes a moral action as he writes that, an act is moral because it is an act performed in a situation of a certain kind; similarly, a work is rhetorical because it is a response to a situation of a certain kind .(3) By defining the rhetorical situation in this way, Bitzer further contends that rhetoricis a means to altering reality. (4) It is through the use of discourse that one is capable of changing reality through thought and action. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Bitzer continues in the third section of his essay, by outlining the general characteristics or features of a rhetorical situation, it is his discussion of sophistical rhetoric that is most interesting. (11) He notes that a sophistic situation is one where a contrived exigence is, asserted to be real... alleged constituents are due to error or ignorance,... and [it derives] from fantasy in which exigence, audience, and constraints may all be imaginary objects of a mind at play . (11) He concludes that, rhetoric is distinguished from the mere craft of persuasion which, although it is a legitimate object of scientific investigation, lacks philosophical warrant as a practical discipline . (14) While Bitzer s insights into how one may think about the way in which rhetorical discourse acts upon and therefore alters the reality of a situation, it is difficult to see his point in stating that the mere craft of persuasion lacks philosophical warrant as a practical discipline. The clearest reason it seems, is implied from the examples that Bitzer uses, none of which are theological or religious in nature, but rather the examples he provides are usually political. Although one is left to speculate as to what categories Bitzer would include in sophistical rhetoric (other than a play or novel), might theological and religious discourse be subsumed under

The next day he snuck into his house without his parents knowledge and talked to Phoebe. She teased him about how unambitious he is and how he despised everything, calling him immature and lazy. He then mentioned how he would always dream of being on a cliff, standing on the edge, and protect little kids from falling off into a hurtful abyss. Once again, this is just the superficial meaning. What Holden sub consciously means is that he wants to protect little children, that are in their childhood, from falling into the abyss, which is the painful world of growing up and being an adult. This shows how sentimental Holden is about childhoods and innocence, and how adulthood is like plummeting from a cliff to your death. All he wants to do is preserve that for other younger children. Holden then takes Phoebe to a park where she rides the carousel several times, and Holden just sat on the bench with his red hunting hat while it was raining. And at that moment, Holden felt sheer happiness and smiled at his sister, wistfully, which made him feel like he accomplished his goal. All

Answer: The authors calculated the gaps from data in cross sections over a 30 year period and studied the trend over time. 4. Is the portion of each gap that is independent of social class changing over time? Answer: Yes, the authors contrasted the rate of changeover time in the social class adjusted gaps. These surveys give convincing evidence that the gaps have decreased over time, but are still widely spread. The authors conclude that it would take over 50 years to close the gap in reading achievement scores and over a century to close the gap in mathematics and science achievement scores. The adjusted gaps for social class, family structure, and community variables were closing from 1965 1992. At this rate of change over the entire period, they would close in the same amount of time as the unadjusted gaps. The rate of change for the unadjusted gaps seem to have reversed after 1972. These results do not give a lot of support to the theory that the gaps in average test scores are caused by the differences in social class and family structure. Thus, it supports the theory that the gaps in test scores are an outcome of other factors, such as discrimination.

  • 34. Sociological Speculation through Theory A)Socialist feminism argues that both men and women may also believe that economic and emotional dependence go hand in hand. Fearful of the loss of economic security, a husband s power over his wife is absolute. An example of this characteristic from the socialist branch can be seen in my own personal life. When I was growing up, I experienced how my father would completely disregard my mother and her duties serving the household and the family, as she was a stay at home mom and my father worked and got paid for his labor. Her domestic work was trivialized as my father felt that he was doing real work. Because of this, my mother was quite submissive towards my father s behavior because she felt that she needed him for financial security and that she could not be capable of anything without him. B)Liberal feminists believe society does not have to be completely restructured to achieve empowerment for women and to incorporate women into meaningful and equitable roles. An example of this characteristic from the liberal branch is seen in the political system in the United States. It is harder for women to advance in politics due to the fact that it is a realm that has been dominated by men for a long period of time. In today s day and age, we see more female politicians coming to the forefront, and are dissolving the notion that politics only involves men by showing that they too are knowledgeable and interested in the political processes. This demonstrates liberal
