The Story Of A Dreamer
Before I knew it, the next summer had passed, and I found myself in the bustling streets of
Diagon Alley, shopping for school supplies unfortunately, with my family. Elara and Theodore
were off gaping at a shop window that was displaying the Nimbus 2000, which, I admit, was very
aesthetically pleasing. My little brother, who loved to play Quidditch, stood there with both of
his palms, his nose, and forehead pressed to the glass with a gigantic grin on his face. I chuckled
at this, since Theo really only ever got excited over reading books about bugs and magical
creatures. It was nice to see him marvelling over something else for a change. I turned away from
my siblings and scanned the area, my eyes darted from shop to shop in search of... Show more

I squinted into the darkness and found an old man who was holding a box, and was slowly
moving out into the light. I took a few steps back to give him a bit more standing room. I ve
been expecting you. He continued, in full view now. I blinked, surprised at his sudden
commentation. He knew I was coming? How did he know it was specifically me? You have? I
asked meekly, my voice squeaked a bit in surprise which made me blush a furious red in
embarrassment. The sound of his rubber soled shoes tapping against the rocky floor snapped me
out of my embarrassment and my cheeks returned to their usual pale color. He inched closer to
me and smiled a toothy smile, and, as I noticed earlier, he was still carrying a dusty, brown,
rectangular looking box that had a gold engraving on the top. He gingerly removed the lid of the
box and his slender fingers wrapped around a long, cylindrical piece of wood, it looked like. 13
Holly wood, with a veela hair core, astounding flexibility...yes, I think this will do. The man who
I had identified as Mr. Ollivander, the owner of the shop said, holding the wand out to me,
almost as if he was offering me money. I took it gingerly and stared at it for a moment. It felt nice
in my hand; it wasn t too light, but it wasn t too heavy, it was smooth and pleasing to the touch,
and I found myself feeling exhilarated, feeling almost as if I could take on the whole world and win.

Pressure Mapping Critique
This paper is an academic critique of an article written by Kirkland Walsh, Teleten, Wilson, and
Raingruber (2015) titled: Pressure mapping comparison of four OR surfaces. The authors sought to
examine the results found from testing four different patient care surfaces commonly found in
operating room suites. My analysis methodically focuses on specific aspects of the article relating
to the process and research methods along with their associated results. While I think that the study
itself is valid, I personally question if the volunteer population adequately and accurately represents
an average surgical patient population in terms of health and comorbidities. In their article, Pressure

The Effects Of Music On Memorization
The Effects of Music on Memorization

The Effects of Music on Memorization
Remember a song that came out about 10 years ago, and maybe you haven t heard it in a while,
but as soon as it comes on the radio, you recall all the words and are able to sing along? How
about retaking a quiz from last spring, would you be able to just recall the information spoken to
you from the lecture pertaining to the quiz content? The second task doesn t seem as easy, so
perhaps the tune of a song triggers something in the brain that makes memorization more simple
than just hearing spoken words. Discovering new ways to teach and recall information successfully
is an important topic to research and study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also expected that individuals in a public location will recall less words than individuals in a
private location. Obtaining data that supports the hypotheses would indicate that music might be a
factor in enhancing memorization and being able to retain information more successfully, along
with being a private location.
The first article used for research in this study is titled, Memory for Music: Effect of Melody on
Recall of Text. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of recalling text when it is
heard as a song, rather than just spoken. The idea behind this comes from the role in memory
representations. It was hypothesized that, the tune will provoke learning and recall of the text
through rhyme and rhythm (Wallace, 1994, p. 1472). There was a sung version of two songs
and a spoken version of the songs recorded on a tape. There were 64 undergraduate participants
for the study. Participants listened to three verses from the recorded songs and were then asked to
write down the words they could remember, in a short time span between hearing the verses the
first and fifth time. Participants heard a song five times and were asked to write down what they
had retained after specific trials. It was found that participants that heard the song being sung were
able to recall more words than the participants who listened to the words of the song, but in spoken
form. Even with hearing two songs and trying

MICHAEL BEER ELIZABETH COLLINS Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant: Motivating in Good

Richmond, Indiana, a privately owned business that manufactured mirrors for trucks and

their May 14, 2007, meeting was different. Both men sensed that they now faced a crisis at the

To What Extent Are Earthquakes More Dangerous Than Volcanoes
I believe that earthquakes are way more dangerous than volcanoes. I believe that they are more
dangerous than volcanoes because they can affect any city, state, or country at any time anywhere.
The aftermath of the earthquakes are more destructive to an area, and cost way more for the
government to clean up. For example, the earthquakethat happened in Haitiseveral years ago
devastated the country a lot. The devastating earthquake was a magnitude of 7, and left 230,000
dead, as well as over 300,000 people injured. Most of the country went into poverty right after
this, and the Red Cross immediately got involved. The earthquake also damaged over 250,000

Technology And The World Wide Web Essay
The rapid world of technology is quickly changing the way knowledge is learned, and taught.
Those who have access to the World Wide Web have new ways of exploring the realm of
education from all directions instead of retrieving knowledge from traditional places like college.
However, college is different because it is not only a place to gain knowledge, but also an
environment that prepares students for the real world. In Davidson s paper, she believes that we
need to change the way higher educationis structured and adapt techniques that are already
integrated within open source media, in order for students to be equipped for the technological
global environment. Instead today s educationis only preparing them for a Taylorized industrial age
labor market. Davidson poses a new paradigmfor the way we perceive modern education. She
introduces three principles that are used in open source media that applicable to higher education.
The three principles that online platforms support are, 1) an openness of contribution, 2)
elimination of boundaries, and 3) voluntarism in the distribution of knowledge. An openness of
contribution of knowledge permits anyone to share their intellect with others, regardless of their
educational background and it also welcomes everybody to participate. Secondly, by eliminating
structures and boundaries on the correctness of knowledge, allows generation of new perspectives
and not constricted by prior knowledge. Thirdly, by creating a

Obeying The Law Research Paper
Obeying the law, or rules is very important. There are many rules you need to follow. The law
that I think is very important, is that children, and students have to go to school. It is a state law. I
think it is fair, because we are so much smarter then we would be if we didn t go to school. We
students/cadets get to go to school. People all arround the world eather can t go to school, or can t
afford it. We are so lucky. Shool might not be fun, but it will help us in the long run. We will have
an education, we can then get a degree, then we can get a job and afford all kinds of things. At

might be a few subjects that studets do not like, but there are also subjets students love. Friends
will usually be there unless they have something going on. For instance: they are sick, or they
are bussy doing something or they are on vacation. Sometimes school just doesn t work out for
some students. They just have to work harder than others. Something most people learn at or
from school is Work smarter not harder . When people are having trouble they will ask for help, or
sometimes they will give up. Giving up is never good. You can loose friends, grades go down, and
life will just get harder. School is supposed to help you in all these ways, like: with your brains, and

Essay on Hairstyle and Job
Being a hairstylist, it is all about the skills: The artistic skills, the communication skills, also, the
skill to be patient and respectful. Some people have a difficult time trying to obtain all of these
skills. Hairstylists have a tough job. No one really understands what the stylist goes through. The
pressure to get things right and to make the client happy is a complicated situation. The job of a
hairstylist is to create, develop, and enhance client s personal appearance. However, it is not all
about beauty, you have to be able to interact good with the costumers. Being a hairdresser, your
job is to shampoo, cut, colour, and style a client s hair. While you do all this, it is your duty to

But there will always be that one hairdresser that is perfect for you. That will help choose a hairstyle
for you and that will be communicative. In this career field, as a hairstylist, you do not make much
money. The money you make, plus tips, is $11.13. Which means that annual your wage in this
career is $23.140. Now this is not a lot of money, but for someone who loves their job it will
work just fine. However, there is another way that you can go and you might make more money;
is if you rent your chair from the salon. This way you get what you make on every hairstyle. But
the downfall is that you have to buy all of your own products and tools. Which, I think renting
your own chair is the way to go, because than all you have to pay for is your chair nothing else
and you get all the money you make. When you have a family and so many bills to pay, this is
not enough money to live off of. However, it will do if the husband has a job as well. Hairstylist
is a job that will never have a dull moment. You learn something new every day. This is a career I
would enjoy doing every day. You get to meet so many new people and help them with so many
different things. Even though the money isn t good, if you love the job, it s a job for

Global Dependence On Fossil Fuel
The proportion of Renewables must increase to around 50% of the energy mix in most countries
and is expected to be over 70% in countries Brazil and Africa. Energy efficiencies and low carbon
energy carriers for heating and cooling can decarbonize electricity, significantly reducing the share
of fossil fuels to less than 50% in the total energy requirement. Sharing best practices across
borders can help transfer innovative technologies and support energy transition plans for many of
the developing countries that are majorly dependent on coal as a primary source of energy. Over
the coming years the dependence on fossil fuelwill have to gradually reduce and much of investment
must go into making this transition possible.

Chaucer The Pilgrim Essay
In The Personality of Chaucer the Pilgrim, John M. Major explores the qualities of Chaucer s
character in The Canterbury Tales. In the piece, Chaucer inserts himself into the story as one of
the pilgrims who make the trip to Canterbury, but the uses and characteristics of the character can
often appear conflicting and confusing. In his piece, Major closely examines the characteristics of
Chaucer s character and succeeds in making sense of exactly which approach Chaucer took in
creating his character and why he would do so. Major begins by examining the relationship
between the Chaucer who authored the piece and the Chaucer who exists as a character in the
piece and participates in the journey.Citing an older essay by E. Talbot Donaldson,... Show more

In the most interesting and insightful segment of the piece, Major states that, This Narrator
reveals himself to be, like his creator... witty, sophisticated... and, above all, ironic. Such a man is
very well aware of the significance of what he observes, though he may show his awareness by
subtly means (Major 160 161). Major stresses that it would take a considerably dense individual
to fail to realize that he made contradictions in admiring vastly different people. Such a person is
so far removed from Chaucer s own self that it is difficult to compare the two, and he wouldn t
even be fit to travel with the characters and record their tales with appropriate nuance and detail
anyway. Major concludes that the Narrator often made his comments and observations with
deliberate use of irony. This is most apparent in line 251 when Chaucer states that Ther nas no
man nowher so vertous (A 251) coming, as it does, in the midst of other lines that so obviously and
even heavily point up the Friar s greed and hypocrisy (Major 161). As Major argues, it would be
impossibly odd for the Narrator of all people to fail to see the faults in his companions. The major
new insight I took away from this article is derived from such an observation: Chaucer likely had
his Narrator employ the use of irony so as to create a persona that initially appeared to be dim and

The Influence Of Booker T. Washington On Education
Booker T. Washington had a vital view about education s part in the society. His life account depicts
his admiration for the utilization of instruction and learning. Washington accepted that education
and knowledge helped extraordinarily in making individuals more gainful and fruitful. He knew of
the significance of educationand instruction in solving day by day life challenges, and the fact that
people profited extraordinarily from training. Today, our reality has changed a lot in comparison to
the nineteenth century. There is a large contrast as far as innovation, race relations, and the way of
life and economy in the United States. Still, similar to Booker T. Washingtons beliefs, the thought of
instructive significance is still pertinent today.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The extent to how much Washington desired for the blacks to respect and seek ways of being
productive members of society by applying industrial knowledge as part of their day to day
occupation is clear from his works. This concept applies to today s society in many ways. For sure,
much importance has been put on the requirement for young people to concentrate on procuring
professional educations, even to the degree of this act being a detriment to their born abilities and
gifts. It must be comprehended that there are numerous ways of becoming a gainful individual in
our society, and these ways must be considered. As such, training should not just be considered as
an instrument of empowering one to become educated in the areas of science, arithmetic, writing
and reading, but also as an apparatus for encouraging the profitability of human

Asteroid Theory
In the early nineteen hundreds, dinosaur fossils were discovered and recognized around the globe.
Scientists and paleontologists began contemplating how such densely populated creatures vanished.
Currently, paleontologists debate the two main hypotheses of how the dinosaurs died from either
the volcano activity or the asteroid impact. Both theories resulted in the same outcome yet differ in
key elements such as, the physical evidence left behind encourages every conceivable clarification
for the termination in charge of wiping out the dinosaurs.
As a matter of fact the theory that has gained wide acceptance today is that an asteroid collided
with Earth. A large meteor like ball striking the Earth ejecting enough debris and dust that it
resulted sunlight blockage long enough to modify the atmospheres climate, executing a
comparability of the nuclear winter. These events occurred in a sort of domino effect, plants were
the first to die out, followed by the herbivores that ate them, and finally the carnivores that fed on
the herbivores. Walter and Luis Alvarez from the University of California at Berkeley proposed the
main hypothesis in 1980. Team Alvarez firmly believed that the iridium layer is to blame an asteroid

Solar Power Vs. Wind Power
Have you ever thought about green energy? Well if you have, I am sure that you have heard of
solar power and wind power. There are also other forms of green energy, but they are not used as
much as solar or wind power, but solar vs, wind power is one the most debated topics in green
energy. This topic is controversial because the world is beginning to switch to renewable green
energy and people and politicians are debating which energy source they should use. Solar power is
a better option than wind power.
There are many reasons why solar power is better than wind power. One of the reasons is that
solar panels take less maintenance than wind turbines. Standard warranties normally last 25
years; and this includes any repairs and damages that could occur to the solar panel. An example
of this is if a tree were to fall onto a group of solar panels from a storm and it was within the 25
year warranty, then the company that made the solar panel would come and repair or replace
the broken or damaged panels. Wind turbines have shorter warranties from the manufacturers,
and this should make people less certain of their reliability. The solar panel companies also have
a guarantee that a solar panel s efficiency won t drop below a certain percentage over its lifespan,
this percentage is normally in the range of 85 90% efficiency. Also, solar panels are made of
tempered glass which is made to withstand hail and other damaging weather. Solar panels don t
have any moving parts like a wind

Rhetorical Analysis Of Gatorade s The Secret To Victory
Gatorade s most recent commercial, The Secret to Victory, focuses on defeat to help make their
advertisement effective. The commercial starts out with Michael Jordan, a star basketball player,
who asks, You want to know the secret to victory? This bold question grabs the attention of the
audience. The commercial continues with many star athletes, present and past, that state a time
where they failed in their respective careers. Later on, NFL quarterback Matt Ryan, answers
Jordan s proposed question with defeat, after a scene of him losing in the Super Bowl. In this
essay, I will argue that Gatorade s The Secret to Victory commercial is very effective by using
rhetorical components and focusing on defeat. The target audience for Gatorade is for athletes, but
this commercial does a great job of reaching out to a wide range of athletes. The advertisement
targets athletes of the older generation, along with athletes that are young. Gatorade uses two
retired players, Peyton Manningand Michael Jordan, along with two players nearing the end of their
careers, Eli Manningand Serena Williams, and three players that are currently in their prime, Kyle
Schwarber, Matt Ryan, and Karl Anthony Towns. The different ages in the commercial are
extremely effective because athletes that would be interested in Gatorade s products vary in age,
and Gatorade had to appeal to all generations of athletes. Also, the inclusion of Serena Williams can
appeal to the female athletes that view the

Wladyslaw Szpilman. The Pianist: The Extraordinary True Story of One Man s Survival in
Warsaw, 1939 1945. (New York: Picador, 1999). [ISBN: 978 0 312 26376 8]
The Pianist is the story of Wladyslaw Szpilman s experiences leading to up, and throughout the
German invasion/occupation of Poland. He writes an emotional autobiography about his trials, and
experiences in the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II. Throughout his journey, Szpilman must
attempt to navigate the rapidly changing political and social situation in Warsaw. He gives us an
overview (highlighting the important events) of his family s journey from a Jewish family of
moderate standing (thanks to his exceptional piano playing) stripped of their possessions, their
home, and finally each other. Within all of this turmoil, Szpilman survives every danger and ordeal
to document his journey after the Russian Army at the end of World War II liberates Warsaw.
Throughout the story, the focus remains limited to what is happening inside the Warsaw Ghetto,
and the immediate area in Poland. Most of what is reported to the author in the writing comes
secondhand from outside the Ghetto sourced from rumor and hearsay. This fact highlights the
stress and uncertainty within Warsaw prior to the German occupation, which is a substantial sub plot

The Scientific Revolution Essay
During the Scientific Revolution scientists such as Galileo, Copernicus, Descartes and Bacon
wrestled with questions about God, human aptitude, and the possibilities of understanding the
world. Eventually, the implications of the new scientific findings began to affect the way people
thought and behaved throughout Europe. Society began to question the authority of traditional
knowledge about the universe. This in turn, allowed them to question traditional views of the
state and social order. No longer was the world constructed as the somewhat simple Ptolemaic
Model suggested. The Earth for the first time became explicable and was no longer the center of
the universe. Many beliefs that had been held for hundreds of years now proved to be... Show more

The statement acts to justify his finding with the church and connect them to God. Copernicus
realized that the church would be quick to judge him, and possibly this is why he didn t publish
his theories until late in his life. His discoveries were not so much as important as were his
methods of observation and application of mathematics to explain the world. His methods of
discovery helped model the direction of science over the next hundred years.
Another important figure in the Scientific Revolution was Galileo Galilei. He was an Italian born
professor of mathematics who had a great interest in the workings of the universe. Galileo served as
a professor at the University of Padua, and it was during this time that he began to question the
accuracy of the Churches representation of the world. Galileo s approach towards knowledge was
much different then the afore mentioned Copernicus. Where as Copernicus presented his finding to
the mercy of the church, Galileo wrote his conclusions and left the Roman Catholic Church
interpret them as they chose. The very nature of his findings pitted him as an opponent of the
church.
The Earth was not the center of the universe. Galileo had seen far into the heavens with the
telescope he had designed and created an even more accurate mold of the universe. He trumpeted

In his video, How I Fell in Love with a Fish, Dan Barber explains what he found when he travelled
to Spain to get an intimate understanding of exactly why this fish farm is still in business and what
it is that makes their fish taste so good.
Dan explains that the majority of what his trip to the fish farm taught him revolved around
relationships. He learned that in order to become a prosperous business the farm first had to
establish a thriving network of relationships between all of its inhabitants.
One of the boldest statements made in the video pertains to the fact that this fish farm does not

Example Of Holistic Care
Holistic Care is seen as the way in which the patient is cared for as a whole by looking not just at
their physical or medical needs but also at their spiritual, psychological and social needs while in
the clinical setting (Johns C. 2012, Rushton L. 2014). One of the main outcomes for holistic
care is patients receiving the best standard of care and also patient satisfaction in their care. This
is due to the patient being cared for in a way that doesn t just look at their disease and uses
person centered care instead of the traditional medical model of nursing (McGeorge N. 2010). In
order to adequately care for the patients that we see in clinical settings we must look at them
holistically and not care for them solely using the medical model of nursing. Holistic care is
especially important for patients who are under going surgery, like this patient who was getting a
short gamma nail placed in her femur, as it helps to promote healing post operatively by
encouraging compliance with the care they need. It also helps to reduce the anxiety felt by the
patient as they feel they are not being ignored by the staff looking after them (Selimen D. 2011). I

Exercise Is A Physical Activity
What if everyone around us was physically and mentally fit? Would we all live a happy, positive
life? How could it benefit us? According to www.cdc.gov (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention), exercise is a physical activity that is planned, structured and repetitive for the purpose
of conditioning any part of the body. Exerciseis used to improve health, maintain fitness and is
important as a means of rehabilitation. Because physical activity is beneficial both
physiologically and psychologically, more people should schedule it in their daily routine.
Physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your body. Everyone hears
that if you exercise at least thirty minutes a week then you ll be in great shape. In reality, to
maintain a fit, healthy body, you should exercise sixty minutes each day of the week. Being
active helps control your weight by allowing your body to burn the calories that may have been
stored as fat. Usually what causes weight loss is decreased caloric intake. This is the total
number of calories in a daily diet allocation. The only way to conserve weight loss is to be
occupied in a consistent state of physical activity. It s best to be complied with a nutritious eating
plan and consume less calories than what you burn each day. Keep in mind that whatever stored fat
you may have won t start burning until you ve exercised for over twenty minutes. Don t choose to

The Dark Age As The Golden Age
The Middle Ages were filled with advancements and drawbacks for Europe. Seljuk Turks invaded
Europe tearing it apart and breaking it down, leading society to become weak and scared.
Nevertheless, attempts were made by many to fight against these rough times. The plague was
a large factor in the weakening of Europe, due to the decrease of population that resulted from it.
The misfortunes occurring in this time lead many people to believe that it was a Dark Age, on
the contrary Europe proved to be stable throughout the invasions and hardships making it more of
a Golden Age. Although invasions leading to decrease of trade took place, the era between 500
to 1400 should be considered as the Golden Age, because of social achievements relating to
philosophy, poetry, and architecture and a strong, organized government. Despite the murderous
and treacherous aura of Europe, social advancements were able to transpire. The medieval time
period thrived in the midst of threatening events. In his book The Medieval Period, Gray C. Boyce
stated that even through difficult hardships, Europe was able to sustain itself (Document 6).
Although outside forces restricted Europe to grow, barriers were overcome and creativity filled
this time period. Additionally, Europe was able to flourish and bring forth many advancements as
H.C Davis said (Document 7). Davis claims can be trusted, because of his expertise in the field,

Proposed New Tax Legislation Affecting Salary Sacrifice Essay
Proposed New Tax Legislation Affecting Salary Sacrifice for the Provision of Benefits in Kind
At the Budget 2016 the government announced that due to concerns over the rising cost of salary
sacrifice, it would consider limiting the range of benefits in kind (BIK) that attract income tax and
National Insurance Contributions (NIC) advantages when provided as part of salary sacrifice
arrangements. Following this Budget announcement, on 10th August HMRC published a
consultation document which sets out a high level proposal for the future tax treatment of BIK
offered via salary sacrifice.
The consultation period will run from 10th August to 19th October, and during this time Willis
Towers Watson will be reviewing the proposals together with industry bodies, as well as looking at
what providers have to say, before responding to HMRC. The proposal may be subject to change
and/or clarification following the consultation period. The government expects to make an
announcement on decision made following the consultation in the Autumn Statement 2016.
The proposed changes in summary
The main proposed change is to introduce new tax legislation from 6th April 2017 that will
make a BIK provided through salary sacrifice chargeable to income tax and Class 1A employer
NIC, even if the BIK is normally exempt from tax and Class 1A NIC. The BIK charge will be
calculated as the greater of the salary sacrifice amount or the cash equivalent.
The proposals specifically target salary sacrifice

Summary Of The Children s Generation By Margaret Sanger
Changing The Future Generation
Margaret Sanger is a birth control activist, sex educator, writer, and nurse. Sanger gave a famous
speech on March 30th, 1925 titled The Children s Era which is part of the Sixth International Neo
Malthusian and Birth Control Conference. It took place at a public meeting in Scottish Rite Hall in
New York. She believes that the twentieth century should be the era of the childwhere the current
generation should welcome children into a healthy and happy world. She believes that parents
should be educated through a series of tests to help them understand and realise what it is like to
be a parent and what all it takes. I believe this is a good speech because Sanger convy s her readers
by the use of repetition, the use of an analogy, her use of facts, and credibility to other sources.
She begins her essay by repeating the same question asking the audience, What steps have been
taken towards making it the century of the child? and she answers the question by saying so far,
very, very few (1). Throughout her speech she continues to refer to the fact that little to nothing has
been done towards our future generation of children. This is effective in Sanger s speech because
it motivates those who haven t stepped up to change anything for our future. She stresses this
meaning happy children, happy women and happy men throughout her paper as well (3). This
support her idea because she believes that if we have happy children we will have happy parents
with their children.
In the beginning of her speak she uses an analogy comparing gardening to raising children So if we
want to make this world a garden for children, we must first learn the lesson of the gardener (2).
This is a very intelligent way of connecting to her audience because she explains how in
gardening You have got yo give them space and the opportunity (if they are to lift their flowers
to the sun), to strike their roots deep in the soil (2). This is allowing Sanger s audience to
understand what it is like to be a parent. You need to give your children the chance to grow and
learn in a clear and happy environment. Then, she concludes her analogy saying You cannot have a
garden if you let weeds overrun it (2). You

decides to go against the grain. Simon says, Secretly I did not adore him like the other girls in
junior high did (1). This first person account gives the reader great insight on how one individual
can stand up against what the rest of society appreciates.

people and make himself seem more powerful then he actually was. Simon emphasizes this more
with her following sentence. She says, He peeled the paper from a stick of Juicy Fruit very
slowly it seemed... (12). Using this analytical observation the author is pointing out that Simon
is watching Sinatra s every move for a mistake. The following sentence backs up the speaker s
idea that Frank Sinatra is not above everyone else because she states how Frank Sinatra Missed
(13). Even with this missed shot the narrator states how, I was mesmerized. Like one of those
squealing, moronic sheep that my father so despised (15). Simon is referring to how she still
seems to be conforming to what her father and her least like, those star struck fans that worship
Sinatra. Then, Simon is brought back to reality when Frank Sinatra says, You got three questions
(16). Simon gets this reaction from Sinatra when she asks her first question, Caught in mid chew,
his mouth remained open for a moment (19). She receives this odd reaction from Sinatra because
her question is not an average question but yet a deep question that is more personal and not
asked by young people. This question and those following show that Simon is not like all the other
girls her age but one that goes against what s socially

Symbolism in The Hunger Games
When reading The Hunger Games, one might not read and think deeply enough about something
like symbolism. Looking into it, however, the characters in this novel by Suzanne Collins seem
to be named after historical figures, words that are descriptive of their characters, and even
plants. Realizing this really makes reading the novel much more interesting, because now the
reader has something or someone to compare each of the main or supporting characters to. The
Hunger Games makes relates many of the characters to historical figures. Many of the male
figures seem to be named after Roman politicians, philosophers, and poets. Take Cinna, for
instance. Cinna, in the novel, is Katniss and Peeta s stylists for the Games. He does their makeup

Fire, because they are both defiant. Cinna, for turning the wedding dress President Snow wanted
Katniss to dress in for her interview with Caesar Flickerman into a mockingjay, which turned into
a symbol of rebellion, and Lucius Cornelius Cinna for staging a rebellion. What really ties it all
together is that Cinna, Lucius Cornelius Cinna, and Gaius Helvius Cinna all met their demise by

Examples Of Gross Profit Costings
Based on the ABC data below are the gross profit margins for each product produced.
ABC is short for activity based costing. Companies follow a two stage process when allocating
indirect costs using ABC. The first stage entails assigning costs to pools based on the activities that
cause the costs to be incurred. The second stage involves allocating the costs in the activity costs
pools to products through the use of a variety of cost drivers. Furthermore, activity based costing
generates a suitable allocation since it disperses the applicable overhead costs to the appropriate
products. Also, it enhances precision in ascertaining the costs of products and services. Therefore, it

With the ABC system, there is a variety of cost drivers used. Thus, a different cost driver is used
for each category of overhead cost. Furthermore, with the ABC system, a larger amount of
overhead costs are allocated to OS 367. Therefore, since OS 367 utilizes greater proportions of
some of the resources than other products, the overhead costs for those categories are allocated to
OS 367 in larger amounts. Hence, the total overhead cost per unit increased for OS 367 (Edmonds
et al., 2011).
Furthermore, traditional costing does not classify the specific overhead charges or resource used
to fabricate a specific product and distributes costs by assigning average overhead rates.
However, ABC categorizes specific activities employed for producing each individual product and
allocates them based on their consumption of resources. Drilling Innovations used traditional
costing, which in turn, caused them to assign overhead based on machine hours and ignore other
overhead activities used to produce each product. However, by using ABC, the costs were
allocated based on the activities used to produce each individual drilling head. Therefore, the cost
was more accurately spread based on the overhead consumption of each product individually. Costs
that were incurred to produce OS 367 were being allocated to GS 157 and HS 241 with the
traditional costing method. Once

Rule 707 was the evidentiary rule focused on in the case. Rule 707 serves the legitimate interest
of ensuring that only reliable evidence is introduced. Here the decision turned on the issue of
whether the defendant is impaired by not being able to use the results from the polygraph to prove
his innocence and to lay the foundation for the reliability on the results. In this case, Rule 707 did
not implicate a sufficiently weighty interest of the accused to raise a constitutional concern under
this Court s precedents. The three cases principally relied upon by the Court of Appeals, Rock v.
Arkansas, 483 U.S. 44, 55, Washington v. Texas, 388 U.S. 14, 23, and Chambers v. Mississippi,
410 U.S. 284, 302 303, which did not support a right to introduce polygraph evidence, even in very
narrow circumstances. The exclusions of evidence there declared unconstitutional significantly
undermined fundamental elements of the accuser s defense. That was not the circumstances in US
v. Scheffer, where the court members heard all the relevant details of the charged offense from
respondent s perspective, and Rule 707 did not preclude him from introducing any factual evidence,
but merely barred him from introducing expert opinion testimony to bolster his own credibility.

The Indians establish their roots in the land and start extracting their needs passively and in rational
amounts that are enough for their survival.
The setting of each of the two communities in Dances with Wolves reflects their personality. The
Indians live as whole and on a piece of land where all the tents are near each other. This stresses that
Indians live collectively rather than individually like the white man. The first time Dunbar rides to
the Indians with Stands with a Fist, the camera shows Dunbar as being on the top of the hill; the
camera is looking up on Dunbar. Then it moves upwards to give the viewer a panorama of the
surroundings of the community. This sight includes: trees, land, mountains and a river. These are
the basic elements of nature and the Indians live within these elements. This resembles the bond
which the Indians have with nature.
When the camera gives a view of the soldiers fort, it is noticeable that there is almost no trees
presents, and a logical reason is that the tree have been used to build the post. The buildings in the
post emphasize the separation of the white man, as they are built within a considerable distance
between each other. These walls separate people from each other; thus emphasizes and explains the
individuality of the white man. Also Dunbar builds a fence for his horse to stay in, while in the
Indian community all the horses are left to their will.

Motivation in The Shawshank Redemption
What is motivation? As manager s, motivation is one of the most vital and crucial assets to
possess in managing a business. This drive is a critical tool to use in the work place and determine
the success or failure of an organization. Motivation is a driving force that initiates and directs
behavior. In other words, motivation is an internal energy that drives an individual to do something
in order to achieve a certain goal. Therefore, creating a motivating environment in the workplace
will lead to happy employees. Creating a work environment like this, managers can expect low staff
turnovers, improved productivity, happy customers, and better financial performance. Therefore,
the input of motivation use towards employees determines the output efficiency of the company.
However, everyone involved in an organization is motivated differently. Everybody has their own
individual needs in regards to motivation. Depending on how motivated a person is, determines the
effort that individual puts into the work and therefore, how productive they are.
The biggest problem to a manager is managing employees. This is because employers often do not
know how to handle their employees. An effective manager knows that motivation is a difficult

The Chemical Ingredient Of Acetylsalicylic Acid Essay
Acetylsalicylic acid is the active pharmaceutical ingredient that is found in aspirin and is used to
treat inflammation, pain and fever. It is created by an esterification reaction of salicylic acid with
acetic anhydride in the presence of an acid catalyst. At the end of the reaction, a product and
unreacted salicylic acidand acid catalyst was created. The product contains impurities, such as acetic
anhydrideand salicylic acid, which needs to be removed. Crystallization, a technique used to
purify substances, produces crystals and the impurities get filtered under the vacuum. Adding
water after the crystals are made but before the crystals are vacuumed helps to purify the crystals
and get rid of some impurities. Melting the crystals can determine the purity of the product that
was made. When performing the experiment, salicylic acid will be in a flask and in a water bath.
It is important that it sits in the water bath for at least eight minutes but no more than ten
minutes. If it is in the water bath for more than ten minutes, the salicylic acid could decompose.
The purpose of this experiment was to determine the presence of salicylic acid and starch in
acetylsalicylic acid. The presence of salicylic acid can be determined by performing a ferric
chloride test. The presence of starch can be determined by performing an iodine test. In order to
find the percent yield, the following formula was used:

Essay The Corruption Scandal of the European Commission
Abstract: The Corruption Scandal of the European Commission and its possible effects on the
institutional balance and the question of legitimacy
I. Defining Corruption
The first chapter is an attempt to define corruption. It is important to divide overlapping and
complicated terms such as corruption, scandal and fraud. Corruption is defined as an illegal
transaction, where both actors benefit from their special position in the market or the government.
Scandal is the public reaction to allegations of corruption and thus it is interconnected with the
issue of legitimacy. Fraud, however is a purely criminal cathegory.
The European Commission is a multicultural and multinational institution of the European Union so
it is vital to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the northern part of the continent there is more emphasis on the notions of incompatibility and
the conflict of interest. There are problems however around the financing of political parties.
II. The Organization of the European Commission
The Commission is at thte heart of the Union. It has a very important role in formulating policies,
initiating legislation, overseeing implementation, make administrative decisions.
The Commission had a great impact on the poltics of the Communities from the earliest times. The
ambitions of the Commission to gain more influence in European decision making caused frequent
conflict with the Council of Ministers, which saw the strengthening of the supranational
Commission as a main threat to the souvereignity of the member states. This conflict was
accentuated at the Luxembourg crisis in 1965, which was the greatest institutional crisis of the
Community. The crisis was caused by De Gaulle`s resistance of the Commission`s proposal of
introducing majority voting in the Council instead of unanimity. The French President paralysed
the working of the Community by practicing the quot;empty chair quot; politics, boykotting the
Council of Ministers. The crisis was solved by he Luxembourg compromise, which kept the veto of
the member states.
The first sign of corruption in the Commission was the 1979 report of the Court of Auditors, which
accused the commissioners of using the community funds for private purposes and scrunitized the

Essay on Black Holes
Black Holes Every day we look out upon the night sky, wondering and dreaming of what lies
beyond our planet. The universe that we live in is so diverse and unique, and it interests us to learn
about all the variance that lies beyond our grasp. Within this marvel of wonders, our universe holds
a mystery that is very difficult to understand because of the complicationsthat arise when trying to
examine and explore the principles of space. That mystery happens to be that of the ever elusive,
black hole.
This essay will hopefully give you the knowledge and understanding of the concepts, properties,
and processes involved with the space phenomenon of the black hole. It will describe how a black
hole is generally formed, how it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What this means is that it is impossible to use the laws of physics to predict the structure of the
region after the Cauchy horizon. This breakdown of predictability has led physicists to hypothesize
that a singularity should form at the Cauchy horizon, forcing the evolution of the interior to stop at
the Cauchy horizon, rendering the idea of a region after it meaningless.
Recently this hypothesis was tested in a simple black hole model. A spherically symmetric black
hole with a point electric charge has the same essential features as a rotating black hole. It was
shown in the spherical model that the Cauchy horizon does develop a scalar curvature singularity. It
was also found that the mass of the black hole measured near the Cauchy horizon diverges
exponentially as the Cauchy horizon is approached. This led to this phenomena being dubbed mass
inflation.
In order to understand what exactly a black hole is, we must first take a look at the basis for the
cause of a black hole. All black holes are formed from the gravitational collapse of a star, usually
having a great, massive, core. A star is created when huge, gigantic, gas clouds bind together due
to attractive forces and form a hot core, combined from all the energy of the two gas clouds. This
energy produced is so great when it first collides, that a nuclear reaction occurs and the gases within
the star start to burn continuously. The hydrogen gas is

Analysis Of The Dinner Table By Judy Chicago
The Dinner Table (1974 1979) by Judy Chicago
1a. While viewing this piece of work, the emotions I feel are powerful and pride. I feel powerful
because I am a woman and here s this piece of art celebrating and embracing all the women who
made a difference and pathed a way for every other woman in this world. When I look at those
work of art I feel as if I can do anything I set my mind too. Many of the women printed on the art
didn t have is easy. They work hard for all their accomplishments and didn t let the men in this
world intimidate them to stop just because they are women. I feel pride because this piece makes
me feel happy to be a woman and that I am special because of that.
1b. The goal of The Dinner Party was to introduce women s heritage and the role they played in
throughout history. Mostly the history of women in Western civilization. Also, the goal was to
show the importance of women in this world. Many things wouldn t be if it weren t for women. At
the time this piece was made, the women s right movement was just beginning, so I believe this
was made to encourage equal rights for women.
1c. Judy Chicago chose to use the form of a triangle because it s the earliest signs for women, an
ancient symbol for the goddess, and the three equal sides represents the equalized world woman
try to create. Michelangelo s Pieta (1498 1499)

Training and Development in Hr
Training can be introduced simply as a process of assisting a person for enhancing his efficiency
and effectiveness to a particular work area by getting more knowledge and practices. Also training
is important to establish specific skills, abilities and knowledge to an employee. For an
organization, training and development are important as well as organizational growth, because the
organizational growth and profit are also dependent on the training. But the training is not a core of
organizational development. It is a function of the organizational development.

well as employer has a good opportunity to select most suitable person for his vacancy.
Employees will always want to develop career enhancing skills, which will always lead to

asset to the company and thereby increasing the chances of his efficiency in discharging his or her
duties.
Trainings in an organization can be mainly of two types; Internal and External training sessions.
Internal training involves when training is organized in house by the human resources department or
training department using either a senior staff or any talented staff in the particular department as a
resource person.
On the other hand external training is normally arranged outside the firm and is mostly organized
by training institutes or consultants. Whichever training, it is very important for all staff and
helps in building career positioning and preparing staff for greater challenges in developing

Separation Between Boys And Girls
The first thing a person notices upon walking into a store is all the different categories separated
by different aisles and giant signs hanging from the ceiling. The categories are then separated into
smaller, more specific sections. Like in the bathroom accessory aisles, there are different sections
in it that include the towels, curtains, and soap dispensers. Kid s clothes and toys are no different,
they are both separated into two different major categories which are boys and girls. This
separation between boys and girls does carry on throughout a person s life, and influences many
genderroles and biases. In the girls clothingsection, there many different items of clothing such as
sweaters, vests, dresses, leggings, jeans, sparkly plaid, and tunics. The patterns on these
different clothing items consists of sparkles, hearts, flowers, lace, fake fur, and animals. Most of
the clothing for girls consists of bright colors like, pinks, purple, aqua marine, gold, and silver.
Fabric that was mainly used for girls was cotton, polyester, spandex, and metallic. So, knowing
what kinds of clothes are available for girls to wear, it raises the question what do clothes teach
girls and being a girl? Since the clothing for girls is less practical use¬, and seems to be frillier
and light, this teaches them that they are supposed to be aware of their appearances at a young
age. When the clothing has Disney princesses on them it provides the child with and image of
perfection , in

Public Service Broadcasting In Australia
There is no doubt that the proliferation of digital media has placed great stress on the already
fragile status of public service broadcasting (Miragliotta and Errington, 2012). The convergent
media environment alongside restraints on funding and skeptic views regarding their necessity
have posed great challenges altering the role of public service broadcasters in the 21st century.
However, there are many signs pointing toward a renewed government commitment within the
Australian sector, to suggest that what the digital revolution has brought is not only challenges but
also opportunities (Spigelman, 2013). By examining the recent movements of the Australian
Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in addition to specific reference of the Special Broadcasting
Company (SBS) this essay shall seek to address the current debate surrounding the necessity of
public service broadcasters in the 21st century. To this day, the charter written by John Reith, the
first director general of the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) in 1926, is believed to have
established the principles governing public service broadcasting. John Reith first set out his ideas
about how public... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much like traditional forms of media, public service broadcasting was feeling the effects of the
Internet on their audience. Skepticism from the government, commercial media and the general
public posed questions surrounding the necessity for the ABC to exist in the 21st century arguing
that in such a convergent age of media production and content, the original principles governing
public service broadcasting were both inadequate and inconsistent. In order for the ABC to combat
these challenges, associated with pessimistic questioning, the corporation underwent significant
restructuring of their internal operations with cuts to budgets and jobs, and reviews to increase
their internal efficiency (Miragliotta and Errington,

Pirates Island Research Papers
Meta: While it s a common theme in today s online slots environment, with Pirate s Island iSoftBet
has really attempted to do something new. Taking everything into consideration, will players find
this new game to be a bountiful affair?
Pirates Island Review
Pirates Island is one of the many slot machines developed and created by iSoftBet. It s pretty
obvious right from the get go what the theme of the game is, as the background features a pretty
pile of shiny treasure. It s not that subtle and the game looks like it could be set almost anywhere
on the Caribbean Sea during the Golden Age of Piracy. The game is clearly set in the age where
the greatest pirates of all time sailed the seven seas, took what they wanted, and lived the pirate
life to its fullest. The game looks pretty good visually, especially when compared to the other
pirates inspired slot machines. However, while it may look the real deal, the big question is, does
it play better? Read on to find out!
Stepping foot on the island
iSoftBet has put together an online video slot with the simple them of piracy. The graphics fit this
theme pretty well, and all in all Pirates Island looks great. The game is set on a beautiful tropical ...

That alone makes it a fine addition to the already long list of iSoftBet online slot machines that
are currently taking the world by storm. Traditional slots players will enjoy the game because of
the great design, high payouts, and simplistic and straightforward gameplay. Other players may
find themselves a little disappointed by the lack of features found in other games. Some may
even consider this an advantage, as the game doesn t end up becoming too complicated and it s
clearly not a bad game trying to hide behind good features. Pirates Paradise is a simple game that
makes use of a winning formula and presents you with a fun slot machine you ll enjoy

Powerful and aggressive, the common snapping turtle, Chelydra serpentina, is a heavy bodied
species with a distinctive primitive look. The genus name, Chelydra, means water serpent, while the
species name, serpentina, means snakelike.
Formally described by the Swedish botanist and zoologist Carolus Linnaeus (1707 1778) in 1758,
the common snapping turtle is one of only two living members of the chelonian family Chelydridae,
the other member being the alligator snapping turtle, Macrochelys temminckii. While population
levels are currently stable, C. serpentina is still heavily exploited, and researchers continue to
document population declines in portions of its range.

northernmost reaches of its range, mating and nesting take place later in the year, while in the
warmer southern regions these activities happen earlier in the year. Moreover, in southern Florida,
mating occurs throughout the year ( Common snapping turtle Chelydra serpentina | ARKive ,

Hannah Montana Depression
Being an actor means to represent a character and act accordingly with the character they
represent. The effect of being famous as an actor is that they have no life, they cannot be
themselves because of the society. Behind the scene of each movie, there is their real life, not
just the life people think they have. For instance, Hannah Montana is a TV show mostly viewed
by kids and teenager. She was at a period of time kid s role model because of the life they thought
she had. Sometimes when asked who is Hannah Montana they describe her as a charactershe is in
the show and not who she is in reality. As it is all known Hannah Montana was in fact Miley
Cyrus. After the TV show ended in 2011, she was interviewed and she said a very deep sentence....

Some types of depression are, Major depression, Dysthymia, Bipolar disorder, and Seasonal
Affective Disorder (Mayo Clinic Health Center). Major depression is a mood disorder, this is

TV show narrates the story of a teenage girl who committed suicide because she got bullied or
maltreated by her friends. She sent 13 tapes to her closest friend and each tape had an event, a
story of and how a specific friend behaved with her. The message this TV show leaves is, we can
prevent suicide by being kind to people. People agree and disagree because having suicidal
thoughts is not something kindness might help it needs a cure not just kindness. In other hand,
kindness can play a great role to someone who wants to commit suicide, because most of the time,
they feel worthless so kindness might just like it could have helped Hannah Baker the adolescent

  • 2. The Story Of A Dreamer Before I knew it, the next summer had passed, and I found myself in the bustling streets of Diagon Alley, shopping for school supplies unfortunately, with my family. Elara and Theodore were off gaping at a shop window that was displaying the Nimbus 2000, which, I admit, was very aesthetically pleasing. My little brother, who loved to play Quidditch, stood there with both of his palms, his nose, and forehead pressed to the glass with a gigantic grin on his face. I chuckled at this, since Theo really only ever got excited over reading books about bugs and magical creatures. It was nice to see him marvelling over something else for a change. I turned away from my siblings and scanned the area, my eyes darted from shop to shop in search of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I squinted into the darkness and found an old man who was holding a box, and was slowly moving out into the light. I took a few steps back to give him a bit more standing room. I ve been expecting you. He continued, in full view now. I blinked, surprised at his sudden commentation. He knew I was coming? How did he know it was specifically me? You have? I asked meekly, my voice squeaked a bit in surprise which made me blush a furious red in embarrassment. The sound of his rubber soled shoes tapping against the rocky floor snapped me out of my embarrassment and my cheeks returned to their usual pale color. He inched closer to me and smiled a toothy smile, and, as I noticed earlier, he was still carrying a dusty, brown, rectangular looking box that had a gold engraving on the top. He gingerly removed the lid of the box and his slender fingers wrapped around a long, cylindrical piece of wood, it looked like. 13 Holly wood, with a veela hair core, astounding flexibility...yes, I think this will do. The man who I had identified as Mr. Ollivander, the owner of the shop said, holding the wand out to me, almost as if he was offering me money. I took it gingerly and stared at it for a moment. It felt nice in my hand; it wasn t too light, but it wasn t too heavy, it was smooth and pleasing to the touch, and I found myself feeling exhilarated, feeling almost as if I could take on the whole world and win. ... • 4. Pressure Mapping Critique This paper is an academic critique of an article written by Kirkland Walsh, Teleten, Wilson, and Raingruber (2015) titled: Pressure mapping comparison of four OR surfaces. The authors sought to examine the results found from testing four different patient care surfaces commonly found in operating room suites. My analysis methodically focuses on specific aspects of the article relating to the process and research methods along with their associated results. While I think that the study itself is valid, I personally question if the volunteer population adequately and accurately represents an average surgical patient population in terms of health and comorbidities. • 5. The Effects Of Music On Memorization The Effects of Music on Memorization Britnee Colvin University of Cincinnati The Effects of Music on Memorization Remember a song that came out about 10 years ago, and maybe you haven t heard it in a while, but as soon as it comes on the radio, you recall all the words and are able to sing along? How about retaking a quiz from last spring, would you be able to just recall the information spoken to you from the lecture pertaining to the quiz content? The second task doesn t seem as easy, so perhaps the tune of a song triggers something in the brain that makes memorization more simple than just hearing spoken words. Discovering new ways to teach and recall information successfully is an important topic to research and study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also expected that individuals in a public location will recall less words than individuals in a private location. Obtaining data that supports the hypotheses would indicate that music might be a factor in enhancing memorization and being able to retain information more successfully, along with being a private location. The first article used for research in this study is titled, Memory for Music: Effect of Melody on Recall of Text. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of recalling text when it is heard as a song, rather than just spoken. The idea behind this comes from the role in memory representations. It was hypothesized that, the tune will provoke learning and recall of the text through rhyme and rhythm (Wallace, 1994, p. 1472). There was a sung version of two songs and a spoken version of the songs recorded on a tape. There were 64 undergraduate participants for the study. Participants listened to three verses from the recorded songs and were then asked to write down the words they could remember, in a short time span between hearing the verses the first and fifth time. Participants heard a song five times and were asked to write down what they had retained after specific trials. It was found that participants that heard the song being sung were able to recall more words than the participants who listened to the words of the song, but in spoken form. Engstorn Auto Mirror Plant Case MICHAEL BEER ELIZABETH COLLINS Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant: Motivating in Good Times and Bad There had been several rough quarters at the Engstrom Auto Mirror plant in Richmond, Indiana, a privately owned business that manufactured mirrors for trucks and automobiles and employed 209 people. For more than a year, plant manager Ron Bent and his assistant, Joe Haley, had focused their Friday meetings on the troubling numbers, but the tenor of their May 14, 2007, meeting was different. Both men sensed that they now faced a crisis at the plant. Bent was talking animatedly to Haley: This is the third productivity problem in, what, two weeks? A Scanlon Plan, Bent thought, was the best for Engstrom, given the challenges that the plant faced: With Scanlon, workers are receptive to new methods and new machinery because they feel they are a part of the company wide program. • 8. Technology And The World Wide Web Essay The rapid world of technology is quickly changing the way knowledge is learned, and taught. Those who have access to the World Wide Web have new ways of exploring the realm of education from all directions instead of retrieving knowledge from traditional places like college. However, college is different because it is not only a place to gain knowledge, but also an environment that prepares students for the real world. In Davidson s paper, she believes that we need to change the way higher educationis structured and adapt techniques that are already integrated within open source media, in order for students to be equipped for the technological global environment. Instead today s educationis only preparing them for a Taylorized industrial age labor market. Davidson poses a new paradigmfor the way we perceive modern education. She introduces three principles that are used in open source media that applicable to higher education. The three principles that online platforms support are, 1) an openness of contribution, 2) elimination of boundaries, and 3) voluntarism in the distribution of knowledge. An openness of contribution of knowledge permits anyone to share their intellect with others, regardless of their educational background and it also welcomes everybody to participate. Secondly, by eliminating structures and boundaries on the correctness of knowledge, allows generation of new perspectives and not constricted by prior knowledge. Thirdly, by creating a ... Which means that annual your wage in this career is $23.140. Now this is not a lot of money, but for someone who loves their job it will work just fine. However, there is another way that you can go and you might make more money; is if you rent your chair from the salon. This way you get what you make on every hairstyle. Which, I think renting your own chair is the way to go, because than all you have to pay for is your chair nothing else and you get all the money you make. • 12. Global Dependence On Fossil Fuel The proportion of Renewables must increase to around 50% of the energy mix in most countries and is expected to be over 70% in countries Brazil and Africa. Energy efficiencies and low carbon energy carriers for heating and cooling can decarbonize electricity, significantly reducing the share of fossil fuels to less than 50% in the total energy requirement. Sharing best practices across borders can help transfer innovative technologies and support energy transition plans for many of the developing countries that are majorly dependent on coal as a primary source of energy. Over the coming years the dependence on fossil fuelwill have to gradually reduce and much of investment must go into making this transition possible. • 13. Chaucer The Pilgrim Essay In The Personality of Chaucer the Pilgrim, John M. Major explores the qualities of Chaucer s character in The Canterbury Tales. In the piece, Chaucer inserts himself into the story as one of the pilgrims who make the trip to Canterbury, but the uses and characteristics of the character can often appear conflicting and confusing. In his piece, Major closely examines the characteristics of Chaucer s character and succeeds in making sense of exactly which approach Chaucer took in creating his character and why he would do so. Major begins by examining the relationship between the Chaucer who authored the piece and the Chaucer who exists as a character in the piece and participates in the journey.Citing an older essay by E. Talbot Donaldson,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the most interesting and insightful segment of the piece, Major states that, This Narrator reveals himself to be, like his creator... witty, sophisticated... and, above all, ironic. Such a man is very well aware of the significance of what he observes, though he may show his awareness by subtly means (Major 160 161). Major stresses that it would take a considerably dense individual to fail to realize that he made contradictions in admiring vastly different people. Such a person is so far removed from Chaucer s own self that it is difficult to compare the two, and he wouldn t even be fit to travel with the characters and record their tales with appropriate nuance and detail anyway. Major concludes that the Narrator often made his comments and observations with deliberate use of irony. This is most apparent in line 251 when Chaucer states that Ther nas no man nowher so vertous (A 251) coming, as it does, in the midst of other lines that so obviously and even heavily point up the Friar s greed and hypocrisy (Major 161). As Major argues, it would be impossibly odd for the Narrator of all people to fail to see the faults in his companions. The major new insight I took away from this article is derived from such an observation: Chaucer likely had his Narrator employ the use of irony so as to create a persona that initially appeared to be dim and ... • 14. The Influence Of Booker T. Washington On Education Booker T. Washington had a vital view about education s part in the society. His life account depicts his admiration for the utilization of instruction and learning. Washington accepted that education and knowledge helped extraordinarily in making individuals more gainful and fruitful. He knew of the significance of educationand instruction in solving day by day life challenges, and the fact that people profited extraordinarily from training. Today, our reality has changed a lot in comparison to the nineteenth century. There is a large contrast as far as innovation, race relations, and the way of life and economy in the United States. For sure, much importance has been put on the requirement for young people to concentrate on procuring professional educations, even to the degree of this act being a detriment to their born abilities and gifts. It must be comprehended that there are numerous ways of becoming a gainful individual in our society, and these ways must be considered. As such, training should not just be considered as an instrument of empowering one to become educated in the areas of science, arithmetic, writing and reading, but also as an apparatus for encouraging the profitability of human ... Both theories resulted in the same outcome yet differ in key elements such as, the physical evidence left behind encourages every conceivable clarification for the termination in charge of wiping out the dinosaurs. As a matter of fact the theory that has gained wide acceptance today is that an asteroid collided with Earth. A large meteor like ball striking the Earth ejecting enough debris and dust that it resulted sunlight blockage long enough to modify the atmospheres climate, executing a comparability of the nuclear winter. These events occurred in a sort of domino effect, plants were the first to die out, followed by the herbivores that ate them, and finally the carnivores that fed on the herbivores. • 16. Solar Power Vs. Wind Power Have you ever thought about green energy? Well if you have, I am sure that you have heard of solar power and wind power. There are also other forms of green energy, but they are not used as much as solar or wind power, but solar vs, wind power is one the most debated topics in green energy. This topic is controversial because the world is beginning to switch to renewable green energy and people and politicians are debating which energy source they should use. Solar power is a better option than wind power. There are many reasons why solar power is better than wind power. One of the reasons is that solar panels take less maintenance than wind turbines. Standard warranties normally last 25 years; and this includes any repairs and damages that could occur to the solar panel. An example of this is if a tree were to fall onto a group of solar panels from a storm and it was within the 25 year warranty, then the company that made the solar panel would come and repair or replace the broken or damaged panels. Wind turbines have shorter warranties from the manufacturers, and this should make people less certain of their reliability. The solar panel companies also have a guarantee that a solar panel s efficiency won t drop below a certain percentage over its lifespan, this percentage is normally in the range of 85 90% efficiency. Also, solar panels are made of tempered glass which is made to withstand hail and other damaging weather. Solar panels don t have any moving parts like a wind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Rhetorical Analysis Of Gatorade s The Secret To Victory Gatorade s most recent commercial, The Secret to Victory, focuses on defeat to help make their advertisement effective. The commercial starts out with Michael Jordan, a star basketball player, who asks, You want to know the secret to victory? This bold question grabs the attention of the audience. The commercial continues with many star athletes, present and past, that state a time where they failed in their respective careers. Later on, NFL quarterback Matt Ryan, answers Jordan s proposed question with defeat, after a scene of him losing in the Super Bowl. In this essay, I will argue that Gatorade s The Secret to Victory commercial is very effective by using rhetorical components and focusing on defeat. The target audience for Gatorade is for athletes, but this commercial does a great job of reaching out to a wide range of athletes. The advertisement targets athletes of the older generation, along with athletes that are young. Gatorade uses two retired players, Peyton Manningand Michael Jordan, along with two players nearing the end of their careers, Eli Manningand Serena Williams, and three players that are currently in their prime, Kyle Schwarber, Matt Ryan, and Karl Anthony Towns. The different ages in the commercial are extremely effective because athletes that would be interested in Gatorade s products vary in age, and Gatorade had to appeal to all generations of athletes. [ISBN: 978 0 312 26376 8] The Pianist is the story of Wladyslaw Szpilman s experiences leading to up, and throughout the German invasion/occupation of Poland. He writes an emotional autobiography about his trials, and experiences in the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II. Throughout his journey, Szpilman must attempt to navigate the rapidly changing political and social situation in Warsaw. He gives us an overview (highlighting the important events) of his family s journey from a Jewish family of moderate standing (thanks to his exceptional piano playing) stripped of their possessions, their home, and finally each other. Within all of this turmoil, Szpilman survives every danger and ordeal to document his journey after the Russian Army at the end of World War II liberates Warsaw. Throughout the story, the focus remains limited to what is happening inside the Warsaw Ghetto, and the immediate area in Poland. The Scientific Revolution Essay During the Scientific Revolution scientists such as Galileo, Copernicus, Descartes and Bacon wrestled with questions about God, human aptitude, and the possibilities of understanding the world. Eventually, the implications of the new scientific findings began to affect the way people thought and behaved throughout Europe. Society began to question the authority of traditional knowledge about the universe. This in turn, allowed them to question traditional views of the state and social order. His methods of discovery helped model the direction of science over the next hundred years. Another important figure in the Scientific Revolution was Galileo Galilei. He was an Italian born professor of mathematics who had a great interest in the workings of the universe. Example Of Holistic Care Holistic Care is seen as the way in which the patient is cared for as a whole by looking not just at their physical or medical needs but also at their spiritual, psychological and social needs while in the clinical setting (Johns C. 2012, Rushton L. 2014). One of the main outcomes for holistic care is patients receiving the best standard of care and also patient satisfaction in their care. This is due to the patient being cared for in a way that doesn t just look at their disease and uses person centered care instead of the traditional medical model of nursing (McGeorge N. 2010). In order to adequately care for the patients that we see in clinical settings we must look at them holistically and not care for them solely using the medical model of nursing. Holistic care is especially important for patients who are under going surgery, like this patient who was getting a short gamma nail placed in her femur, as it helps to promote healing post operatively by encouraging compliance with the care they need. • 31. Summary Of The Children s Generation By Margaret Sanger Changing The Future Generation Margaret Sanger is a birth control activist, sex educator, writer, and nurse. Sanger gave a famous speech on March 30th, 1925 titled The Children s Era which is part of the Sixth International Neo Malthusian and Birth Control Conference. It took place at a public meeting in Scottish Rite Hall in New York. She believes that the twentieth century should be the era of the childwhere the current generation should welcome children into a healthy and happy world. She believes that parents should be educated through a series of tests to help them understand and realise what it is like to be a parent and what all it takes. I believe this is a good speech because Sanger convy s her readers by the use of repetition, the use of an analogy, her use of facts, and credibility to other sources. She begins her essay by repeating the same question asking the audience, What steps have been taken towards making it the century of the child? and she answers the question by saying so far, very, very few (1). Throughout her speech she continues to refer to the fact that little to nothing has been done towards our future generation of children. This is effective in Sanger s speech because it motivates those who haven t stepped up to change anything for our future. She stresses this meaning happy children, happy women and happy men throughout her paper as well (3). This support her idea because she believes that if we have happy children we will have happy parents with their children. In the beginning of her speak she uses an analogy comparing gardening to raising children So if we want to make this world a garden for children, we must first learn the lesson of the gardener (2). This is a very intelligent way of connecting to her audience because she explains how in gardening You have got yo give them space and the opportunity (if they are to lift their flowers to the sun), to strike their roots deep in the soil (2). This is allowing Sanger s audience to understand what it is like to be a parent. You need to give your children the chance to grow and learn in a clear and happy environment. Then, she concludes her analogy saying You cannot have a garden if you let weeds overrun it (2). You ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Indian and the White Communites in Dances with Wolves and Machimanito The film Dances with Wolves shares a lot of its content with the story Machimanito. In Dances with Wolves, two nations come to interact with each other. While the white man is dominating the land, the Indians are trying to protect both their land and themselves. In Machimanito, the story describes the epidemic and its effects on the Indians, while describing the ongoing conflict between Indians and the white man. The setting of each of the two communities in Dances with Wolves reflects their personality. The Indians live as whole and on a piece of land where all the tents are near each other. This stresses that Indians live collectively rather than individually like the white man. The first time Dunbar rides to the Indians with Stands with a Fist, the camera shows Dunbar as being on the top of the hill; the camera is looking up on Dunbar. Then it moves upwards to give the viewer a panorama of the surroundings of the community. This sight includes: trees, land, mountains and a river. These are the basic elements of nature and the Indians live within these elements. This resembles the bond which the Indians have with nature. When the camera gives a view of the soldiers fort, it is noticeable that there is almost no trees presents, and a logical reason is that the tree have been used to build the post. The buildings in the post emphasize the separation of the white man, as they are built within a considerable distance between each other. These walls separate people from each other; thus emphasizes and explains the individuality of the white man. Also Dunbar builds a fence for his horse to stay in, while in the Indian community all the horses are left to their will. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Chemical Ingredient Of Acetylsalicylic Acid Essay Acetylsalicylic acid is the active pharmaceutical ingredient that is found in aspirin and is used to treat inflammation, pain and fever. It is created by an esterification reaction of salicylic acid with acetic anhydride in the presence of an acid catalyst. At the end of the reaction, a product and unreacted salicylic acidand acid catalyst was created. The product contains impurities, such as acetic anhydrideand salicylic acid, which needs to be removed. Crystallization, a technique used to purify substances, produces crystals and the impurities get filtered under the vacuum. Adding water after the crystals are made but before the crystals are vacuumed helps to purify the crystals and get rid of some impurities. Melting the crystals can determine the purity of the product that was made. When performing the experiment, salicylic acid will be in a flask and in a water bath. It is important that it sits in the water bath for at least eight minutes but no more than ten minutes. If it is in the water bath for more than ten minutes, the salicylic acid could decompose. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the presence of salicylic acid and starch in acetylsalicylic acid. The presence of salicylic acid can be determined by performing a ferric chloride test. The presence of starch can be determined by performing an iodine test. The Commission had a great impact on the poltics of the Communities from the earliest times. The ambitions of the Commission to gain more influence in European decision making caused frequent conflict with the Council of Ministers, which saw the strengthening of the supranational Commission as a main threat to the souvereignity of the member states. This conflict was accentuated at the Luxembourg crisis in 1965, which was the greatest institutional crisis of the Community. The crisis was caused by De Gaulle`s resistance of the Commission`s proposal of introducing majority voting in the Council instead of unanimity. The French President paralysed the working of the Community by practicing the quot;empty chair quot; politics, boykotting the Council of Ministers. The universe that we live in is so diverse and unique, and it interests us to learn about all the variance that lies beyond our grasp. Within this marvel of wonders, our universe holds a mystery that is very difficult to understand because of the complicationsthat arise when trying to examine and explore the principles of space. That mystery happens to be that of the ever elusive, black hole. This essay will hopefully give you the knowledge and understanding of the concepts, properties, and processes involved with the space phenomenon of the black hole. It will describe how a black hole is generally formed, how it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What this means is that it is impossible to use the laws of physics to predict the structure of the region after the Cauchy horizon. This breakdown of predictability has led physicists to hypothesize that a singularity should form at the Cauchy horizon, forcing the evolution of the interior to stop at the Cauchy horizon, rendering the idea of a region after it meaningless. Recently this hypothesis was tested in a simple black hole model. A spherically symmetric black hole with a point electric charge has the same essential features as a rotating black hole. It was shown in the spherical model that the Cauchy horizon does develop a scalar curvature singularity. It was also found that the mass of the black hole measured near the Cauchy horizon diverges exponentially as the Cauchy horizon is approached. This led to this phenomena being dubbed mass inflation. In order to understand what exactly a black hole is, we must first take a look at the basis for the cause of a black hole. All black holes are formed from the gravitational collapse of a star, usually having a great, massive, core. A star is created when huge, gigantic, gas clouds bind together due to attractive forces and form a hot core, combined from all the energy of the two gas clouds. This energy produced is so great when it first collides, that a nuclear reaction occurs and the gases within the star start to burn continuously. The hydrogen gas is ... Public Service Broadcasting In Australia There is no doubt that the proliferation of digital media has placed great stress on the already fragile status of public service broadcasting (Miragliotta and Errington, 2012). The convergent media environment alongside restraints on funding and skeptic views regarding their necessity have posed great challenges altering the role of public service broadcasters in the 21st century. However, there are many signs pointing toward a renewed government commitment within the Australian sector, to suggest that what the digital revolution has brought is not only challenges but also opportunities (Spigelman, 2013).
