Maltese Falcon Character Analysis
Do you ever wonder what makes an intriguing classic novel? Many books appear to fall into the
classic category, but few books really turn out to be classics. This topic can go many ways, arguing
what really makes a classic, but there is a basic criteria that classics must meet. The book that I
analyzed was The Maltese Falcon. This book should not be considered a classic because it does not
give the reader a different perspective, there is not a big moral to the story, and because it is not related
to real issues. The Maltese Falcon should not be considered a classic because it does not give the
reader a different perspective. True classics leave the reader with a different mindset, and The Maltese
Falcon fails to do that. For example in the classic, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, you have a different view
point at the end of the book. The book gives you a different perspective about the characters and about
the obscure door. In the beginning of the book you are unsure about the mysterious door, but in the
end you realize that the door has meaning. This simple object leaves you with a different perspective
about it. The Maltese Falcon also has a simple object, the falcon itself. The falcon is a main focal point
that the reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the setting of the novel is in San Francisco, the novel is not as relevant as is could have been
years ago. In the article Classic is as Classic Does , Lauren Augino states that in order to be considered
a classic it must be related to current issues. In today s society books about sports, school, drama, or
romance would be more appealing books to audiences. The Maltese Falcon is also not a book that
stands the test of time. When readers think of classics they will most likely think of Moby Dick, The
Great Gatsby, or Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. These are a few books that have stood the test of

Characteristics Of Bluefin Tuna
There are many interesting species of ocean fish. Possibly one of the most economically important,
diverse, and interesting species is the tuna. Different species in general have different physical
characteristics and appetite. However, across the different species, there are similar migration patterns
and fishing techniques. There are five primary kinds of tuna: Bluefin, Yellowfin, Long Tail, Albacore,
and Big Eye.
While some characteristics are similar among the different species of tuna, in general each species is
distinct. The Bluefin tuna, Thunnus thynnus, is the biggest of the species. They can reach astonishing
sizes and average ...up to 1500 pounds and...6 10 feet long. (World Wildlife Fund 1) The Bluefin tuna
are built like torpedoes. With traits like retractable fins and eyes that are set flush to their body, they
were made for speed. They have the longest life span, living up to forty years. The next largest is the
Big Eye tuna, Thunnus obesus. They are long and streamlined. They have a distinct coloration to
protect thenselves from predators. In order to avoid predators from above, they have dark metallic
blue on their backs and upper sides. Likewise, to avoid predators from below, they are nearly white on
their lower sides and belly. Their two sided coloration allows for then to blend in the with their
background waters. While smaller than the Bluefin, they can still reach an enormous size. They can

Benefits Of The Coffee Drink Coffee
Did you know that worldwide over half a trillion cups of coffee are consumed each year and that water
is the only beverage that is drank more often? How about that half a billion cups are drank each day in
the United States alone? That totals over one hundred and fifty billion cups per year (RandomFacts 1)!
Most likely a very small percentage know these facts off hand. Even after being an avid coffee drinker
myself for many years this is news to me as well. Just take a moment to think about how many people
you see each day with a cup of coffee in their hands. It s probably a lot considering the fact that an
estimated four out of five people drink coffee before starting their day (RandomFacts 1). The coffee
industry is worldwide, which increases the well being of a substantial amount of individuals by
providing many job opportunities. This not only increases the well being of the workers, but for their
families as well. When considering health, one must consider not just physical health but mental
health as well. If people didn t drink coffee it would cause a decreased well being to the workers in the
coffee industry all over the world. There is a possibility you might even know someone that works in
the coffee industry, which is why for these individuals to keep their jobs coffee must be consumed. I m
sure either you drink coffee yourself or know someone who does, so knowing how it effects your
health, both mentally and physically, is very important. Over time

Male and Seahorse
Seahorse From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search This article is about the
animal. For the mythological animal sea horse, see hippocamp. For other uses, see Seahorse
(disambiguation). Seahorses are a genus (Hippocampus) of fish belonging to the family Syngnathidae,
which also includes pipefish and leafy sea dragons. There are over 32 species of seahorse, mainly
found in shallow tropical and temperate waters throughout the world. They prefer to live in sheltered
areas such as sea grass beds, coral reefs, or mangroves. Colonies have been found in European waters
such as the Thames Estuary.[2] From North America down to South America there are approximately
four species, ranging from very small in size (dwarf ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, to measure the toll that incubation takes on a male, Masonjones built a tiny respirator
that records oxygen concentrations in water flowing into and out of a chamber. Before a male took on
eggs, she checked his baseline need for oxygen. Then, she monitored the increase as the incubation
progressed. The male s body had to work hard by the end of incubation, consuming almost a third
again as much oxygen as he did before mating. To correct for oxygen used by the growing brood,
Masonjones managed to keep ¼ inch high premature seahorses alive outside the pouch so she could
measure their oxygen needs. Although they undergo weeks of incubation, males directly contribute
only half as much energy for offspring as females do. [5]Therefore, they do in fact fit into the
widespread pattern of the less invested sex being the less choosy. {text:bookmark start}
{text:bookmark end} Adaptations The question of why it is the males who undergo pregnancy rather
than the females is actually not entirely known, though some researchers believe male pregnancy
allows for shorter birthing intervals, hence more offspring. When looking at which sex has the ability
to produce more young if they had an unlimited number of ready and willing partners, males have the
potential to produce 17 percent more in a breeding season. Also, females have time outs” from the
reproductive cycle that are 1.2 times

Aphorisms In The Importance Of Being Earnest
One of Oscar Wilde s most notable works, The Importance of Being Earnest, showcases Wilde s
bizarre and arguably backwards take on the literary device known as an aphorism. Most commonly,
aphorisms are used in a didactic context and tend to reflect some form of ethical guideline or universal
truth. It is easy to write off Wilde s utilization of the device as ironic, as the aphorisms used in the play
demonstrate values that are diametrically opposed to those we recognize in the real world; however,
due to the aforementioned fact that aphorisms are typically meant to point out a universal truth, it can
be argued that Wilde s use of the device is quite proper in the sense that the specific universe created
in the work just happens to be different

What Was The Role Of Paul In Ww2
During Paul s time as a traditional Jew in the early days of his life 5 10AD, he was a very violent but
strong believer of his own faith and religious ways. Because of this, it was acceptable to attack and
arrest gentiles Paul s persecution of Christians was entailed by his Jewish understanding of the
Messiah: he was waiting for the Anointed One the Messiah and he could not tolerate the fragmented
loyalties that were taking place within the nation with the rise of a new sect that looked to Jesus as the
awaited Messiah. Paul had a firm commitment to the Jewish religion and his wholehearted acceptance
of the Pharisaic interpretation of that religion. It was the moment of decision in Saul wanting to move

It is known that his main priority was to arrest and be violent toward Gentiles. But Saul was ravaging
the church by entering house after house; dragging off both men and women, he committed them to
prison. Although he was seen as a calm and caring person, Saul s life revolved around arresting and
decreasing the number of the young Christian church all over Jerusalem. nothing however is more
certain about Paul (or Saul) the zealous Pharisee than his intense disdain for and persecution of the
earliest church, or assembly of believers in Jesus as Israel s messiah. both acts and Pauls own attest to
this grim reality. His reputation was such as to make his supposed change of heart suspect. It was on
his way to Damascus to arrest and prosecute these gentiles that the conversion of God occurred. This

Holly Holm And Ronda Rousey s Battle Analysis
On Saturday, November 14th, 2015 Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey climbed in to the Ultimate

underdog matches in the twenty first century. Everyone knew from the second this fight was

nine, in mixed martial arts that is. With both women being undefeated, and no chance for a tie, it set
the stage for a fight to be remembered.

a longer history in mixed martial arts but it was no comparison to the versatile skills that Holly had.

Holly with her boxing and kickboxing career. Holly had the odds stacked against her, but the statistics

Mummies In Ancient Egypt
What is wrapped in lined and put in a coffin forever? Ghastly faces, dried in salt why would Ancient
Egyptians go to all that trouble for a corpse that no one will ever see again? Mummies are fascinating,
and they have been around for over 5000 years. Ancient Egypt is an ancient civilization in the deserts
of Africa. Ancient Mummies are fascinating due to why Egyptians mummify, how they mummify, and
the burial process.
Ancient Egyptians mummified their dead for special reasons. Egyptians had a wish, the wish to live

Going into further detail, first small bunches of natron encased in linen were stuffed in the body. The
corpse s brain was removed and most likely thrown away. The Ancient Egyptians believed that the
brain was the least important organ in the body. After 40 days passed by, the natron packs were
removed. The dried, withered body was then swabbed clean and caressed with oils, spices, and resin.
They eye sockets were corked with linen and closed. The nostrils were packed with beeswax. Then the
arms were crossed, and the fingernails and toenails were hidden in caps of gold. The embalming cut,
(the cut where the inner organs were taken out) was then stitched together. The mummy was decorated
with jewels, gold, and precious stones like the Eye of Horus. Then the body was deliberately bound
with long, narrow bands of linen. The fingers, toes, and legs were all wrapped individually. Linen
shrouds were arranged between the layers of binding. Every few layers of linen were glued together
with resin. After twenty layers of binding and linen shrouds, the mummy s body returned it it s normal
size. Magic amulets were then inserted in between the mummy s wrappings, along with small,
mummy shaped figures called shabtis, which held farm tools. The wrapped head was shrouded with a
portrait mask, that way if anything happened to the mummy the ba and the ka could still recognize it.

Nanking was not the only place of Japanese Army atrocities. Nanking held the distinction of allowing

Neurotransmitters Function
A neurotransmitter is a chemical substance that is released in the nervous system at the end of the
nerve fibers. Its release results in the transfer of impulses and information across fibers or other
structure of the body. Dopamine is one of the neurotransmitters that are present in the nervous system.
It is the neurotransmitter that is responsible for controlling the centers of reward and pleasure in brains
of animals and humans. It is also responsible for making us acknowledge the presence of areas that
could lead to a pleasurable award and how to emotionally respond to this stimulus. The brain is the
site for the production of dopamine. The brain uses the dopaminergic neurons that are present in the
midbrain to manufacture dopamine. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing Asterism And Taurus Negotiation
a) An asterism is a constellation that is not regarded as an official constellation by the international
scientific community. An example of an asterism, is the Big Dipper that is located within the Ursa
Major constellation. One reason why asterisms are used today, is because due to light pollution we are
unable to view the sky as it was seen by the Ancient Greeks. This can make it difficult to view the
entire constellation with the naked eye, and we may instead only view the brightest stars, as well as
the shapes they may form, like the Big Dipper. An asterism is similar to a constellation because a
constellation is a group of stars that outline a recognizable pattern. However, differences between an

This star is also known as Beta Tauri (β Tauri), and is one of the major stars in the Taurus

How Does Starvation Affect Larval Behavior
Starvation impacts larval behavior as measured in the two choice assay a) 3rd instar larvae: From
previous studies of our lab (Newquist, Novenschi et al. 2016) we learnt that each larval ORN is
functionally diverse and each ORN differentially contributes to olfactory behavior in the Drosophila
melanogaster larvae. Based on these results, we postulated that individual ORNs might be
differentially modulated under starved state conditions. To begin to address this question we started
with a panel of seven different odorants from the panel of 19 different odorants published in the study
by (Mathew, Martelli et al. 2013). Each of the seven odorants elicits a strong, specific physiological
response from a single ORN (Or 47a :: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Larvae on each half are counted, RI is calculated using simple equation RI =(S C)/(S+C) [S denotes
number of larvae on the odorant/test side and C denotes number of larvae towards the control side].
The data from this experiment is presented in Figure 1. When tested for odorant acetal, starved larvae
showed higher RI when compared to non starved larvae. In other words, starved larvae have a stronger
attractive response towards acetal compared to the non starved larvae. Next, we looked at the olfactory
responses of the remaining six odorants from the panel of seven that were mentioned above. As
mentioned in the previous paragraph, starved and non starved larvae were subjected to the two choice
assay after 2 hours of the starvation protocol. Data collected for all seven different odorants are shown
in Figure 2. Of all the seven odorants tested, only three odorants showed significant changes in
response indices upon starvation. Acetal (shown in Figure 1), 4, 5 dimethylthiazole, and pentyl acetate
were the three odorants that showed higher RI values for starved state larvae when compared to non
starved larvae. In other words, for these three odorants starved larvae had higher attractiveness
towards odorants compared to non starved larvae. This supported our hypothesis that individual ORNs
might be differentially modulated by the animal s starved state. b) 2nd instar larvae: Next, we looked

The use of social media from the left and right are noticeably different. Brooker and Barnett (2017)

the forgotten people to these alternative sources of information and humour. The ideology of political

totalitarianism. It is for this reason why the new and alt right have made significant inroads in the

Clinician Psychodynamic Theory Paper
Introduction Theories inform many activities that social workers use within their practice. It provides
a lens that allows the clinician to understand the client s needs in a different way, depending on what
theory is being acknowledged. This paper explores three theories, and how they informed projects
performed within the Department of Family Services. Additionally, the strengths and limitations of
each theory are also documented. While no theory fits in to every situation within the social work

The theory is considered revolutionary due to it s life span model of human development that included
eight psychosocial stages. He purposed that in each stage there is a conflict or crisis that the individual
must successfully settle to continue with their development. Erikson also believed that external and
internal forces had significant contributions to how successful an individual s development would be
(Sokol, 2009). The theory is broad and assists in the understanding of development across the lifespan.
Additionally, it takes in to consideration both social and biological factors. The theory has some
criticism as well. Often labeled as vague, some feel the theory is not specific enough and is difficult to

The Marriage of Figaro reflects the social and musical influence of the Classical period. Socially, The
Marriage of Figaro reflects the ideals of the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was was a period that
saw the institutions of Europe religious, political, social, educational, industrial, financial and artistic
slowly but inexorably lower their focus from the ruling aristocratic and clerical classes to a new class
of people. For want of a better term, we call this new and rising class of people the middle class
(Greenberg Opera Buffa ). The Enlightenment placed an emphasis on the natural man or the common
man, not just the aristocratic class (Kerman and Tomlinson Listen 153). Consequently, Mozart focused
his comic operas on lower to middle class protagonists like the servants Figaro and Susanna whose
marital bliss is delayed by nobles ( Synopsis: Le Nozze di Figaro The Metropolitan Opera). Another

Moments Of Comedy And Humor In El Nogalar
El Nogalar is a full play production about a Mexican family trying to fight for their pecan orchard.
The Galvans are an upper middle class family, but their social status is becoming less and less
relevant. The play is special because it has moments of comedy and sadness. El Nogalar portrays a
story of a family losing their status and lands to the drug cartel taking over in Mexico.
A lot of the play is seen in the eyes of Dunia, the family s maid. Dunia is a funny character that
provides some humor in dark situations. Maite, the mother s, spending habits do not help out the
family s situation. Maite just wants the drug cartel issue to go away and does not realize that ignoring
the issue will not solve their problems. Maite s daughters, Valeria

Wu Zhao and the Tang Empire
Rothschild, N. Harry. 2008. Wu Zhao: China s Only Woman Emperor. New York: Pearson Longman
Historical, political and social background: Wu Zhao belonged to the Tang Empire, which according
to the author which ...was a true empire, encompassing many lands, many peoples, and many
ideologies. Multi ethnic and cosmopolitan, Tang China was perfectly suited for the ascent of a
historical anomaly like Wu Zhao... (Rothschild, 2008, p. 11) In a sense, there was a conflict of
traditional Confucian values which promoted a patriarchal society and the liberal Steppe culture which
gave women more freedom and rights. China at that time was a cocktail of these cultures which led to
a significant impact on the lifestyle and values of peoples in that era. Women were bold and tough,
and unlike earlier societies, were no longer confined socially and sexually (Rothschild, 2008, p. 12).
While did not exist a perfect equality between men and women, women of that era were allowed to
live without hiding under the dominance of the male Yang. As the author talks of the Silk Road, it is
mentioned that, ...In this free wheeling milieu, women donned men s attire and rode horses...
(Rothschild, 2008, p. 15) .This cosmopolitan (Rothschild, 2008, p. 16) society was the foundation for
the Tang Empire. Another important factor was the prevalence of Buddhism as a religion of the
masses. Buddhism, in itself, helped united much of Asia, and was a common platform for men and
women, unlike in Confucianism where

With every day that passes, history is being made. Within these past few weeks, two current events

political protests against the government of Venezuelan President Nicholás Maduro. These are two
presidents making history which is recorded in many ways as the modern times has reached a pivotal

In the beginning of Arrian s account the reader is presented with a background of the tale of the
Gordian knot. In this account, the reader gains an understanding of how the Kingdom of Gordium was
established. Arrian clearly states that Alexander was at a loss thus introducing the historian to a
different Alexander from Plutarch. Arrian introduces the reader to an Alexander that is stubborn, and
who is unwilling to leave the knot tied due to wanting to avoid unrest. Similar to Plutarch, Arrian uses
Aristobulus as a source. The Arrian source also notes the religious actions of Alexander as the reader
is informed about the sacrifices that are made to the gods. In Arrian s account, the reader becomes
aware that the Macedonians gave the impression that the untying of the knot was fulfilled thus

Clytemnestra In The Oresteia
In the Oresteia, Clytemnestra is portrayed as an intelligent, powerful woman who acts decisively in
her own interests and to protect the throne. Clytemnestra should be considered a heroine for
demonstrating her excellence by defending her own honour according to traditions, and also for
transgressing the boundaries that limited women in ancient times. Two of the most heroic acts that she
performed were ruling Argos while Agamemnon her husband was away waging the Trojan War and
ultimately taking revenge on him for the sacrifice of her daughter. Like many heroines, Clytemnestra
is flawed and dies tragically in the end.
The daughter of Tyndareus and Leda, Clytemnestra is also the half twin sister of Helen. In the
Oresteia, Clytemnestra is a problematic character; in the beginning of the Oresteia the Watchman says
that Oh she s a woman all right, a woman with a man s heart. (Oresteia, p.3) proving that he s not her

Further deepening the confrontation is that Aegisthus was conceived by incest specifically to take

A Degree For Social Work
A degree for social work?
Why is it that some citizens think that people who work in the field of social work does not need an
education or a degree for it? Also, they think is all about having a good heart and a great deal of
common sense. I believe that having these traits for this job is part of it since you do need some
common sense and a good heart. There are many other requirements that are needed in this career for
example psychological and sociology training among others, to be able to understand the differences
of human cultures and their races.
As a matter of fact according with experts, social work education was a phenomenon of the 20th
century that requires trained staff to administer a multi billion dollar human service ... Show more

So how could a social worker that is an Anglo Saxon is able to understand someone who learned
English but is Hispanic not born in the US. Not to mention that all Hispanics are not the same since
there are so many mixes of nationality and so forth. If you cannot understand their background, then
how would you be able to help if you do not know their culture, custom, and race?
Having an education where you take classes like sociology and psychology could help in this task of
social work. Having classes like this are very helpful since with these tools we are more likely to
know why some people think and act the way they do. Hispanic culture could be very different, even
if people happen to be from the same country. Also, there could be people that could have very similar
culture and way of thinking even if they are not from the same country. Another thing you have to take
in consideration is their values and ethics since social work education programs include in their
curriculum to help us to be aware of their personal values, and the respect for the other people from
different backgrounds (Boyle, Farley, Smith, 2011).
For instance there are other programs that have been implemented to be able to deliver good services
to people and their communities. Some of these areas in social work are social welfare, research,
social work practice, among others. These programs teach about policy and services that are relevant

Why Do Pharmaceutical Companies Use Direct To Consumer...
In 1983, the first television drug advertisement was aired. The drug was Rufen, a pain reliever similar
to ibuprofen. Not even 48 hours later, the government had requested the commercial be taken off the
air on counts of misinformation. In 2007, congress ruled that these advertisements encouraged
unnecessary usage of these drugs (Scott). The government, alongside the American Medical
Association, wanted to ban these advertisements permanently, but they could not because the
pharmaceutical companies would plead free speech under the first amendment (Scott). Pharmaceutical
companies have always managed to find loopholes in the system so they can continue to feed their

If it were illegal to air these advertisements, the numbers of certain medications prescribed would
decrease significantly. As shown by the law, direct to consumer advertisements (DTC ads) are illegal
in the United Kingdom. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) medication gets prescribed
25 times more frequently in the United States than in the United Kingdom. This shows a correlation
between the ads and the prescriptions being written (Stange). Drug companies advertise on television
so they can successfully pitch directly to their patients. The reason they do this is because these
medications are not nearly as good for a patient as they sound, therefore doctors do not prescribe them
often. Without DTC advertising, people would not be able to self diagnose and convince themselves
that they need a medication for a condition that they do not clinically have. A primitive example for
this is adderall, the drug prescribed for patients with ADHD. Other places, such as the United
Kingdom, allow doctors to make the calls and diagnoses, so only the patients with the disorder receive
the medication. A common argument against this is that 64% of physicians surveyed concluded that
these drug advertisements encourage potential

Manchester United Research Paper
Why is Manchester United Football Club so successful? Manchester United Football Club (F.C.) is
not only the biggest club in football club in England but also one of the largest and most popular
teams in the world according to World Football / Soccer Clubs Ranking (Mitchell 2013). This
investigation will focus on the key factors leading to Manchester united success. Success can come
from players, coaches or even owners for providing financial resources but for Manchester United the
success came from winning trophies at early years under impressive management.(Mitchell 2013) It
also discusses players from the academy and the role that experienced players had in the development
of new players and the club mentality. History Manchester United was founded as Newton Heath LYR
FC in 1878. In 1902 that club changed its name to Manchester United Football Club and eight years
later moved into their current stadium called Old Trafford. The clubs historic stadium, also known as
the Theatre of Dreams, has been transformed over the years and is currently the biggest club stadium
in England beside Wembley. The clubs amazing haul of silverware started with the Manchester Trophy
in 1886, when they were still recognized as Newton Heath. Magnall (manager) helped United lift their
first two titles. The first title in 1908 and the second in 1911 also their first FA cup in 1909 (Mitchell

Good People David Foster Wallace Summary
The Ambiance of Human Decency
How does the setting of Good People by David Foster Wallace contribute to the representation of what
it means to be a good person? The short story includes a myriad of techniques that contribute to the
theme of the text. Wallace explores the concept of human decency and relates the subject to how
certain actions and beliefs affect the value of a person in the story. As the religious characters face the
decision of whether to abort an unborn child, protagonist Lane Dean Jr. seeks an approach that would
make him what he believes to be a good person. Although the story s narration explicitly contributes
to the story s meaning, looking at the tone and symbolism of the static setting makes visible the way
the story communicates its message of what it means to be a good person. The environment of the
peaceful and innocent setting, symbolic meaning behind carefully described objects, and consistency
in the location all serve as examples that contribute to the demonstration of the characters in their
attempt to encounter righteousness. These factors of setting enhance thematic patterns and
implications by using descriptive details of imagery to help the reader closely understand specific
emotions and implied meanings that are crucial to the the story s exploration of human decency.
When introducing and laying the foundation of a story, the setting described has the ability to engage
the reader and paint a picture of the tone

Compare And Contrast The Person Centred Approach
The Person Centred Approach is based on the theory and philosophy of Dr Carl Rogers. It focuses on

Catalase Experiment
Discussion: According to the experiment, the highest reaction rate occurred when the enzyme,
Catalase, was 50% concentrated (see Fig.3). However, all of the rates were fairly similar no matter the
concentration, except for the test with 0% concentration. That test resulted in no production of Oxygen
because there was no enzyme for the Hydrogen peroxide to react to so nothing occurred in the testing
container (see Fig. 1). In Fig. 2, you can see that all of the concentrations, aside from 0%
concentration all produced very similar amounts of Oxygen even though there was not as much of the
enzyme in the tests that we added water to in order to change the concentration. The water took the
place of a portion of the enzyme, or all of it, to keep a constant volume of enzyme mixture and to see
how changing the amount enzymes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We used this information to form our hypothesis, which was that the 100% concentration test would
have the highest reaction rate because the more enzyme is the more active sites there are, so more
reactions can occur, and the the Hydrogen peroxide will be decomposed faster, giving it a higher rate.
However, the results of our experiment did not support this. Like explained before, the test that
resulted in the highest rate was the one with 50% concentration. It is unknown why this occurred. The
sources provided in class, a graph, showed that there should be linear growth between concentration
and rate, which supports our hypothesis. Fig. 2 shows that the reaction rate plateaus towards the end of
the 50 seconds, but this is because of the limited and constant amount of substrate, so it slowed down
when the Hydrogen peroxide ran out. Our data did not support our hypothesis, but the class source

As the world becomes more globalized, English seems to dominate the world as the leader of
languages. Seth Mydans states in his article, Across Cultures, English is the Word, that English will
become the language of the world and that there is no slowing down. Mydans utilizes statistics to his
advantage throughout the majority of his article, noting that nearly eighty percent of the world s
electronic information is recorded in English and that around 400 million people speak English as a
first language, with 300 to 500 million as a second language. He also mentions that the United States,
the largest English speaking nation in the world, houses only twenty percent of the nation s English
speakers, with Asia having an estimated 350 million English speakers. These numbers help the
audience understand how widely known and valuable English is in modern day society, and, in turn,

and a simpler form must be created in order for there to be a true global language. Mydans points out
these counterarguments as methods to emphasize that although there are doubts, English will and can

Hyperthermia Research Paper
Let s face it, it is nearly impossible to avoid heat. However, people forget there can be serious
consequences from too much heat intake. The most common reaction to overheating is heat stroke,
medically referred to as Hyperthermia. Hyperthermia occurs when the body is absorbing more heat
than it can give off. The body s temperature keeps climbing due to failed thermoregulation.
Thermoregulation is a homeostatic mechanism used by all living organisms to keep a stable internal
core temperature. All mechanisms function for one reason, to maintain homeostasis. When the body is
experiencing a lower or higher core temperature, it sends signals to the glands, muscles, organs and
parts of the nervous system. Instructions for the nervous system start ... Show more content on

That being said, it takes an abnormally high body temperature to be classified as hyperthermia.
Usually the body reaches an internal temperature of 104°F before it goes into shock and dies. It can be
caused from extreme weather conditions, drug use, other medical conditions could cause the body to
not be able to stabilize the internal core temperature. In order to treat hyperthermia, doctors need to
restore the temperature back to its normal 98.6°F. Serious consequences can come from hyperthermia,
including tissue damage, organ damage if the tissues are damaged severely, lesions on internal organs,
and sometimes fatality. Heat stroke occurs in both male and female. The illness effects people who are
over 50 more severely, because they are unable to fight off the increasing heat. Circulation is also poor
in elderly people due to deteriorating artery walls. This is a huge issue when dealing with
hyperthermia because older people will have a harder time circulating more blood cells to damaged
sites. Small children often suffer from heat stroke because they have a larger surface to weight ratio.
Treatment for hyperthermia is to cool down the body, but not to the point where the patient will
become hypothermic. Doctors use both internal and external techniques in order to balance the
temperature. A few signs and symptoms include dizziness, confusion from the heat affecting the
mental state of the patient and nausea. So remember to take caution when sitting out in the sun for
long periods of time. Your body is susceptible for hyperthermia and potentially other health

  • 2. Maltese Falcon Character Analysis Do you ever wonder what makes an intriguing classic novel? Many books appear to fall into the classic category, but few books really turn out to be classics. This topic can go many ways, arguing what really makes a classic, but there is a basic criteria that classics must meet. The book that I analyzed was The Maltese Falcon. This book should not be considered a classic because it does not give the reader a different perspective, there is not a big moral to the story, and because it is not related to real issues. The Maltese Falcon should not be considered a classic because it does not give the reader a different perspective. True classics leave the reader with a different mindset, and The Maltese Falcon fails to do that. For example in the classic, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, you have a different view point at the end of the book. The book gives you a different perspective about the characters and about the obscure door. In the beginning of the book you are unsure about the mysterious door, but in the end you realize that the door has meaning. This simple object leaves you with a different perspective about it. The Maltese Falcon also has a simple object, the falcon itself. The falcon is a main focal point that the reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the setting of the novel is in San Francisco, the novel is not as relevant as is could have been years ago. In the article Classic is as Classic Does , Lauren Augino states that in order to be considered a classic it must be related to current issues. In today s society books about sports, school, drama, or romance would be more appealing books to audiences. The Maltese Falcon is also not a book that stands the test of time. When readers think of classics they will most likely think of Moby Dick, The Great Gatsby, or Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. These are a few books that have stood the test of ... Different species in general have different physical characteristics and appetite. However, across the different species, there are similar migration patterns and fishing techniques. There are five primary kinds of tuna: Bluefin, Yellowfin, Long Tail, Albacore, and Big Eye. • 6. Benefits Of The Coffee Drink Coffee Did you know that worldwide over half a trillion cups of coffee are consumed each year and that water is the only beverage that is drank more often? How about that half a billion cups are drank each day in the United States alone? That totals over one hundred and fifty billion cups per year (RandomFacts 1)! Most likely a very small percentage know these facts off hand. Even after being an avid coffee drinker myself for many years this is news to me as well. Just take a moment to think about how many people you see each day with a cup of coffee in their hands. It s probably a lot considering the fact that an estimated four out of five people drink coffee before starting their day (RandomFacts 1). The coffee industry is worldwide, which increases the well being of a substantial amount of individuals by providing many job opportunities. This not only increases the well being of the workers, but for their families as well. When considering health, one must consider not just physical health but mental health as well. If people didn t drink coffee it would cause a decreased well being to the workers in the coffee industry all over the world. There is a possibility you might even know someone that works in the coffee industry, which is why for these individuals to keep their jobs coffee must be consumed. I m sure either you drink coffee yourself or know someone who does, so knowing how it effects your health, both mentally and physically, is very important. Over time ... For other uses, see Seahorse (disambiguation). Seahorses are a genus (Hippocampus) of fish belonging to the family Syngnathidae, which also includes pipefish and leafy sea dragons. There are over 32 species of seahorse, mainly found in shallow tropical and temperate waters throughout the world. They prefer to live in sheltered areas such as sea grass beds, coral reefs, or mangroves. Colonies have been found in European waters such as the Thames Estuary.[2] From North America down to South America there are approximately four species, ranging from very small in size (dwarf ... Furthermore, to measure the toll that incubation takes on a male, Masonjones built a tiny respirator that records oxygen concentrations in water flowing into and out of a chamber. Before a male took on eggs, she checked his baseline need for oxygen. Then, she monitored the increase as the incubation progressed. The male s body had to work hard by the end of incubation, consuming almost a third again as much oxygen as he did before mating. To correct for oxygen used by the growing brood, Masonjones managed to keep ¼ inch high premature seahorses alive outside the pouch so she could measure their oxygen needs. Although they undergo weeks of incubation, males directly contribute only half as much energy for offspring as females do. [5]Therefore, they do in fact fit into the widespread pattern of the less invested sex being the less choosy. {text:bookmark start} {text:bookmark end} Adaptations The question of why it is the males who undergo pregnancy rather than the females is actually not entirely known, though some researchers believe male pregnancy allows for shorter birthing intervals, hence more offspring. When looking at which sex has the ability to produce more young if they had an unlimited number of ready and willing partners, males have the potential to produce 17 percent more in a breeding season. • 8. Aphorisms In The Importance Of Being Earnest One of Oscar Wilde s most notable works, The Importance of Being Earnest, showcases Wilde s bizarre and arguably backwards take on the literary device known as an aphorism. Most commonly, aphorisms are used in a didactic context and tend to reflect some form of ethical guideline or universal truth. It is easy to write off Wilde s utilization of the device as ironic, as the aphorisms used in the play demonstrate values that are diametrically opposed to those we recognize in the real world; however, due to the aforementioned fact that aphorisms are typically meant to point out a universal truth, it can be argued that Wilde s use of the device is quite proper in the sense that the specific universe created in the work just happens to be different ... • 9. What Was The Role Of Paul In Ww2 During Paul s time as a traditional Jew in the early days of his life 5 10AD, he was a very violent but strong believer of his own faith and religious ways. Because of this, it was acceptable to attack and arrest gentiles Paul s persecution of Christians was entailed by his Jewish understanding of the Messiah: he was waiting for the Anointed One the Messiah and he could not tolerate the fragmented loyalties that were taking place within the nation with the rise of a new sect that looked to Jesus as the awaited Messiah. Paul had a firm commitment to the Jewish religion and his wholehearted acceptance of the Pharisaic interpretation of that religion. It is known that his main priority was to arrest and be violent toward Gentiles. But Saul was ravaging the church by entering house after house; dragging off both men and women, he committed them to prison. Although he was seen as a calm and caring person, Saul s life revolved around arresting and decreasing the number of the young Christian church all over Jerusalem. nothing however is more certain about Paul (or Saul) the zealous Pharisee than his intense disdain for and persecution of the earliest church, or assembly of believers in Jesus as Israel s messiah. both acts and Pauls own attest to this grim reality. His reputation was such as to make his supposed change of heart suspect. It was on his way to Damascus to arrest and prosecute these gentiles that the conversion of God occurred. Holly Holm And Ronda Rousey s Battle Analysis On Saturday, November 14th, 2015 Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey climbed in to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) cage and began what would come to be known as one of the greatest underdog matches in the twenty first century. Everyone knew from the second this fight was scheduled that it would be legendary because going into the fight both amazing women were undefeated. That being said, Ronda Rousey had twelve straight wins, compared to Holly Holm s lowly nine, in mixed martial arts that is. Ghastly faces, dried in salt why would Ancient Egyptians go to all that trouble for a corpse that no one will ever see again? Mummies are fascinating, and they have been around for over 5000 years. Ancient Egypt is an ancient civilization in the deserts of Africa. Ancient Mummies are fascinating due to why Egyptians mummify, how they mummify, and the burial process. Ancient Egyptians mummified their dead for special reasons. Egyptians had a wish, the wish to live forever. They believed that after they died a new life began. The corpse s brain was removed and most likely thrown away. The Ancient Egyptians believed that the brain was the least important organ in the body. After 40 days passed by, the natron packs were removed. The dried, withered body was then swabbed clean and caressed with oils, spices, and resin. They eye sockets were corked with linen and closed. The nostrils were packed with beeswax. Then the arms were crossed, and the fingernails and toenails were hidden in caps of gold. The embalming cut, (the cut where the inner organs were taken out) was then stitched together. The mummy was decorated with jewels, gold, and precious stones like the Eye of Horus. Then the body was deliberately bound with long, narrow bands of linen. The fingers, toes, and legs were all wrapped individually. Linen shrouds were arranged between the layers of binding. Every few layers of linen were glued together with resin. After twenty layers of binding and linen shrouds, the mummy s body returned it it s normal size. Magic amulets were then inserted in between the mummy s wrappings, along with small, mummy shaped figures called shabtis, which held farm tools. An example of an asterism, is the Big Dipper that is located within the Ursa Major constellation. One reason why asterisms are used today, is because due to light pollution we are unable to view the sky as it was seen by the Ancient Greeks. This can make it difficult to view the entire constellation with the naked eye, and we may instead only view the brightest stars, as well as the shapes they may form, like the Big Dipper. How Does Starvation Affect Larval Behavior Starvation impacts larval behavior as measured in the two choice assay a) 3rd instar larvae: From previous studies of our lab (Newquist, Novenschi et al. 2016) we learnt that each larval ORN is functionally diverse and each ORN differentially contributes to olfactory behavior in the Drosophila melanogaster larvae. Based on these results, we postulated that individual ORNs might be differentially modulated under starved state conditions. To begin to address this question we started with a panel of seven different odorants from the panel of 19 different odorants published in the study by (Mathew, Martelli et al. 2013). In other words, starved larvae have a stronger attractive response towards acetal compared to the non starved larvae. Good People David Foster Wallace Summary The Ambiance of Human Decency How does the setting of Good People by David Foster Wallace contribute to the representation of what it means to be a good person? The short story includes a myriad of techniques that contribute to the theme of the text. Wallace explores the concept of human decency and relates the subject to how certain actions and beliefs affect the value of a person in the story. As the religious characters face the decision of whether to abort an unborn child, protagonist Lane Dean Jr. seeks an approach that would make him what he believes to be a good person. Although the story s narration explicitly contributes to the story s meaning, looking at the tone and symbolism of the static setting makes visible the way the story communicates its message of what it means to be a good person. The environment of the peaceful and innocent setting, symbolic meaning behind carefully described objects, and consistency in the location all serve as examples that contribute to the demonstration of the characters in their attempt to encounter righteousness. These factors of setting enhance thematic patterns and implications by using descriptive details of imagery to help the reader closely understand specific emotions and implied meanings that are crucial to the the story s exploration of human decency. The Person Centred Approach describes the client as an expert on themselves, and helps the client gain self acceptance. The approach believes that humans can self heal, if the core conditions are in place. The relationship between the client and the counsellor is the most important aspect of the therapy succeeding. By clients being prized and valued, they can learn to accepted who they are and reconnect with their true selves. • 35. Ethics and The Mining Industry Essay Everyday minerals from the earth are extracted, removed and formed into something new, when you look back, to pause and ponder at what has been formed, the human mind will be amazed. This.. Came from that? beautiful rubies have been created from very specific minerals which are combined together, and glittery diamonds have been formed from coal which has been under great pressure, but it isn t such a magical story when the curtains are unveiled, and the truth is shown. Where are the ethical principles which hold this industry together? A shovel is dug back into the ground, the wind blows onto the small particles of dirt, revealing the business conduct of the mining industry, but the ethical principles have been crushed just like how the ... Keep your desires under control and deny yourself that which you have been prohibited from, for, by such abstinence alone, you will be able to distinguish between what is good to them and what is not. Develop in your heart the feeling of love for your people and let it be the source of kindliness and blessing to them. Do not behave with them like a barbarian, and do not appropriate to yourself that which belongs to them. Remember that the citizens of the state are of two categories. They are either your brethren in religion or your brethren in kind. They are subject to infirmities and liable to commit mistakes. Do not say: I am your overlord and dictator, and that you should, therefore, bow to my commands , as that will corrupt your heart, weaken your faith in religion and create disorder in the state. Should you be elated by power, ever feel in your mind the slightest symptoms of pride and arrogance, then look at the power and majesty of the Divine governance of the Universe over which you have absolutely no control. source citation Nahjul Balagha book Mining is an industry where ethical issues are quiet weighty, because its such a big industry, there is so much discuss. • 36. Catalase Experiment Discussion: According to the experiment, the highest reaction rate occurred when the enzyme, Catalase, was 50% concentrated (see Fig.3). However, all of the rates were fairly similar no matter the concentration, except for the test with 0% concentration. That test resulted in no production of Oxygen because there was no enzyme for the Hydrogen peroxide to react to so nothing occurred in the testing container (see Fig. 1). In Fig. 2, you can see that all of the concentrations, aside from 0% concentration all produced very similar amounts of Oxygen even though there was not as much of the enzyme in the tests that we added water to in order to change the concentration. The water took the place of a portion of the enzyme, or all of it, to keep a constant volume of enzyme mixture and to see how changing the amount enzymes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We used this information to form our hypothesis, which was that the 100% concentration test would have the highest reaction rate because the more enzyme is the more active sites there are, so more reactions can occur, and the the Hydrogen peroxide will be decomposed faster, giving it a higher rate. However, the results of our experiment did not support this. Like explained before, the test that resulted in the highest rate was the one with 50% concentration. It is unknown why this occurred. The sources provided in class, a graph, showed that there should be linear growth between concentration and rate, which supports our hypothesis. Fig. 2 shows that the reaction rate plateaus towards the end of the 50 seconds, but this is because of the limited and constant amount of substrate, so it slowed down when the Hydrogen peroxide ran out. Our data did not support our hypothesis, but the class source support our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Seth Mydans As the world becomes more globalized, English seems to dominate the world as the leader of languages. Seth Mydans states in his article, Across Cultures, English is the Word, that English will become the language of the world and that there is no slowing down. Mydans utilizes statistics to his advantage throughout the majority of his article, noting that nearly eighty percent of the world s electronic information is recorded in English and that around 400 million people speak English as a first language, with 300 to 500 million as a second language. He also mentions that the United States, the largest English speaking nation in the world, houses only twenty percent of the nation s English speakers, with Asia having an estimated 350 million English speakers. These numbers help the audience understand how widely known and valuable English is in modern day society, and, in turn, establish logos in Mydans article. These statistics didn t just come out of thin air, however. Mydans implemented quotes and facts given by many different individuals who all study the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Near the beginning of the article, Mydans mentions an argument made by Nicholas Ostler, the author of Empires of the Word, in that English will rise to a certain point and then ultimately collapse, just as Latin did. Mydans later considers the argument Nerrière brings up in that English has too many words, and a simpler form must be created in order for there to be a true global language. Mydans points out these counterarguments as methods to emphasize that although there are doubts, English will and can overcome other languages in one way or another as the dominant language of the world. Some readers might think adding these counterarguments might hurt Mydans case, but as a skilled writer, Mydans knows introducing these rebuttals will help accentuate his ... • 40. Hyperthermia Research Paper Let s face it, it is nearly impossible to avoid heat. However, people forget there can be serious consequences from too much heat intake. The most common reaction to overheating is heat stroke, medically referred to as Hyperthermia. Hyperthermia occurs when the body is absorbing more heat than it can give off. The body s temperature keeps climbing due to failed thermoregulation. Thermoregulation is a homeostatic mechanism used by all living organisms to keep a stable internal core temperature. All mechanisms function for one reason, to maintain homeostasis. When the body is experiencing a lower or higher core temperature, it sends signals to the glands, muscles, organs and parts of the nervous system. Instructions for the nervous system start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That being said, it takes an abnormally high body temperature to be classified as hyperthermia. Usually the body reaches an internal temperature of 104°F before it goes into shock and dies. It can be caused from extreme weather conditions, drug use, other medical conditions could cause the body to not be able to stabilize the internal core temperature. In order to treat hyperthermia, doctors need to restore the temperature back to its normal 98.6°F. Serious consequences can come from hyperthermia, including tissue damage, organ damage if the tissues are damaged severely, lesions on internal organs, and sometimes fatality. Heat stroke occurs in both male and female. The illness effects people who are over 50 more severely, because they are unable to fight off the increasing heat. Circulation is also poor in elderly people due to deteriorating artery walls. This is a huge issue when dealing with hyperthermia because older people will have a harder time circulating more blood cells to damaged sites. Small children often suffer from heat stroke because they have a larger surface to weight ratio. Treatment for hyperthermia is to cool down the body, but not to the point where the patient will become hypothermic. Doctors use both internal and external techniques in order to balance the temperature. A few signs and symptoms include dizziness, confusion from the heat affecting the mental state of the patient and nausea. So remember to take caution when sitting out in the sun for long periods of time. Your body is susceptible for hyperthermia and potentially other health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
