The Political Terms Left And Right Were Devised During The...
The political terms left and right were devised during the French revolution to describe the seating
arrangement in the British parliament. Those who sat on the left were generally opposed the
monarchy and supported the revolutions, while those on the right supported the traditional
institutions of the British Empire. It was during the nineteen century that the word wing began
following the term left and right, usually with weary intent. Those considered left wing were
unorthodox in their religious or political view
A radical ideology of the left is defined as political positions or activities that accepts or supports
social equality, often in opposition to social hierarchy and social inequality. Often those of left
wing ideology involve in concern for those in society who are perceived at a disadvantage
relative to others and a belief that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or
abolished. They propose a view of human beings living together harmoniously without great
disparities in wealth or social classes. On the other hand, those of the right wing radical ideology
are political positions or activities that view some forms of social inequality as either inevitable,
natural, normal or desirable and typically defend this position based on natural law, economics or
traditions.
On radical ideology that might take place in the United States is capitalism. The capitalist theory isn

Private Property In John Locke s Social Contract
In his social contract, Locke also specified the purpose of a legitimate government and clarified
how a legitimate government can exercise authority. Aside from providing security and addressing
inconveniences found in the state of nature, Locke argued that the purpose of government is to
protect people s private property. Property is a profound component of Locke s social contract as it
is tangible and gives people more autonomy over their lives. According to
Locke, property becomes private once man adds his labor to public property. As the man
improved the public property in some manner, he can officially lay his claim to it. Owning
property allows people to improve their living conditions and can empower strong economic actors.

Descriptive Essay On Ava s Gambling Addiction
2015 Villa Forenza Senior Apartments
Las Vegas, Nevada
For the love of God, it s over! That seventy eight year old, Hungarian born bitch and foul
tempered, sharp tongued shrew, finally got the death card. In fact, death himself rode in on that
white horse, waving the proverbial black and white flag, snatching that old skeletal biddy, Crazy
Ava. And I d bet good money on the fact that several people are breathing a deep sigh of relief
tonight.
Besides, that nutty, eastern bloc peasant had a history of so many crazy episodes of anger. But he
took her still wearing that Parasztok headscarf, and reeking of rye bread, sauerkraut and old brick

Ava s gambling addiction follows a pattern of so many others. As soon as her Social Security
check deposits in her account by six a.m. and by eight, she s hurrying inside of Arizona Charlies,
exhilaration and excitement written all over her face. Eyeballing the leathery relic on the nickel
slots, standing back as he nervously pushes the keys to the slot machine and watches the images
spin in the front of the machine. When it hits, she rushes to find an open multi hand video poker
game and sits her fanny in front of it, stuffing the machine full of nickels. Until around ten, when
half point bingo starts.
However, everything deteriorates around noon, when her paycheck along with half of the rent
money, withers to nothing. Now, desperate and hollow, she chases those losses with bigger bets,
focusing on nothing but the outcome of those wheels as they spin before her eyes. Telling herself,
It s just me and you. Make it happen. Sinking further into that sick feeling, as each time the wheels
stop rolling, feeling chained to the machine. Leaving the casino, broke, she treks back down to the
payday loan store, borrowing money against her next three Social Security

Piaget in the Toddler Classroom
There are a lot of things to consider when designing the layout of a toddler classroom. It is very
important to create an environment that is geared toward the proper developmental stage in order
for young children to get the most out their classroom. Children in the preoperational stage (2 yrs.
7 yrs.) need a wide variety of hands on activities to promote development. Using Jean Piaget s
Theory of Cognitive development to design a classroom will give toddlers a wide range of activities
to gain a strong foundation for learning.

something similar to help the students define their assigned group. For rotating centers each group
will play in once center for a designated period of time; then switch centers.
Each center designed is to engage a different aspect of child development. The large floor rug is
designed as a social area. The children will gather each morning to begin the daily routine. The
more time children spend together the less time it will take them to develop social skills such as
speech and conversation. We will begin each day by talking about the events from the afternoon
before and re cap on the activities of the day before just to see what they remember; especially
from the lesson.
After circle time we will head to our lesson area. This is the location where the academics will
take place. At this age the children will be working on fine motor skills by coloring and using
scissors. Arts and crafts may be one of the most beneficial activities in the lesson area. The students
can learn to recognize letters or number using the art activities.
The materials needed for this activity are: letter/number template, related pictures from magazines
or other visual media i.e.: a apple; b bus, construction paper, glue/paste, and scissors. The students

Lastly, channel integration can become a zero sum game. While one side is getting all the

The Renaissance is a significant period of the West in the history. Literature, painting, architecture

one of Leonardo da Vinci s most famous masterpieces. This article will briefly discuss the Last
Supper, about its basic details and characteristics.
The Last Supper is a popular subject of painting in history; however, the most famous version is
painted by Leonardo da Vinci. We all know that Leonardo da Vinci is one of the key artists of the
Renaissance; his works lead the Renaissance into climax. Renaissance refers to the rebirth,
meaning that the artistic and literary to be renaissance under the influence of the classical norm.
Actually, due to the development of capitalism, people focus on real life more and more, so
humanism which based on the religion background has become so popular during that time. The

At a time when women were looked upon as being homemakers, wives, mothers and such the late
1850 s presented a change in pace for one woman in specific. Photography was discovered in 1826
and soon after the phenomenon of photography was being experimented with and in turn brought
new and different ways of photo taking not only as documenting real time, but also conceptualizing
a scene in which an image would be taken. Julia Margaret Cameronwill forever be recorded in the
history books as one of the first female photographers to make significant contributions to a field
that was ruled by the male counterpart of her time. Julia Margaret Cameron was born 1815 in

Her subject was Annie Philpot, the daughter of a local resident. It is a picture of great simplicity
and grace, conspicuously divided in terms of light and dark (Cox 10). Julia Margaret Cameron
had a passion for literature and the visual arts which she made sure was a part of her families
everyday life and when she was introduced to photography she was able to incorporate her new
passion with her domesticated life with great ease. All of her children were grown and taking
care of their careers and or raising their families so she was able to set up shop at her home and
begin her new adventure. Photography had forever changed the world when it was invented and
ways of documenting now would include images of people, places or things that would be marked
in documentary, journalistic and artistic ways. Julia Margaret Cameron made an impact in the
world of photography when her daughter decided that she would give her a camera for her forty
eighth birthday. Julia Margaret Cameron became one of Victorian England s most renowned
female photographers and given the time she was living in and that she was a woman she was not
taken seriously and many believed she would never contribute much to the art of photography
which she proved wrong with her short ten year career. From the time Julia Margaret Cameron s
photographs were first exhibited in 1864, her works have aroused admiration and debate. Many

Essay on Consciousness As Determined Th
Consciousness is understood in a variety of ways. In one belief, a person is conscious when awake,
but unconscious when sleeping or comatose. Yet people also do things requiring perception and
thought unconsciously even when they are awake. A person can be conscious of their physical
surroundings, pain and even a wish or fantasy. In short a creatureis conscious if it is aware of itself
and that it is a physical and emotional being. Consciousnessis a psychological condition defined by
the English philosopher John Locke as quot;the perception of what passes in a man s own mind
quot;.1
Consciousness is defined and perceived differently in many psychological view points. For instance
the earlier views around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They held that consciousness was involved with every working mental state. In this view the mind
is transparent to itself that is, it can perceive it s own activity. For three centuries self transparence
was the defining feature of the mind. That conception was sprung through the theories of Wilhelm
Wundt and Edward Titchener who were advocates off a science of introspection.
Early in the 20th century the transparency doctrine came to a setback for three different reasons.
The first reason was Sigmund Freud s compelling evidence that some very important mental
activity is not only subconscious but firmly resists conscious access through repression. At first
Freud s idea of unconscious was treated as self contradictory, but it has since won acceptance as
being useful and entirely possible.
the second difficulty for the transparency doctrine was that it made the mind impossible for
objective science. What is known introspectively to a single person would be utterly private and
therefore can not be viewed scientifically. Scientific method demands objectivity and reportable
data. The behaviorists John B. Watson and B.F. Skinner and the philosopher Gilbert Ryle rebelled
against the idea of an inner sense and denied the very existence of consciousness in the strong sense
exhibited by Locke, Descartes and the introspective psychologists.3 Ryle insisted that mind is an
illusory concept and that it is

Merit pay is a term describing performance related pay. Its primary focus is used for helping
teachers improve their performance by learning from each other. Merit Pay can take the form of
a bonus or a permanent teacher salary increased. This motivates many teachers because they
believe they are being evaluated more fairly than traditional evaluation. Merit pay is important
to study because it s a one of the most controversial issue in the field of education and it does
have an effect on school finance in the future. We should be concerned about using merit pay in
our school system because most professions offer bonuses and salary increases for their
exemplary employees why should the education profession be any different? Shouldn t we try
and use incentives as we do with our students to motivate teachers to give their very best in
educating our future leaders of tomorrow. Merit pay will recruit and retain some of the nation s
brightest mind. Many people who have the capability to teach our students refused to do so due to
teacher pay but with merit pay many of these individuals may consider working in the education
profession. Relation to the Problem to the Specialization Merit Pay is a topic of investigation
because even though it rewards great teachers many lawmakers, educators, and teacher s union are
opposed to it.

Paradox Of Thrift And Its Effect On The Economy
To have an opinion on whether Paradox of Thrift has an effect on the economy you must
understand what is the meaning and effect on the economy. Paradox of Thrift is an economic
theory, which posits that personal savings are a net drag on the economy during a recession
(Investopedia). Therefore, instead of saving during a recession, the paradox states that savings
should be spend instead of saved. This goes along the theory with the government increase
spending will have an overall effect on the economy. Theories go along the line of lowering
interest and the same time lower savings rate will make saving less profit. It this is the case, then
people will decrease the amount they put away and put it instead back into the economy. My opinion

My Math Experience Reflection
As I reflect on my first four week of algebra I recall being very skeptical that I could learn and
complete a mathematics course with a passing grade. Thats because I had not taken a
mathematics course since graduating high school in 1999. I struggled with match in high
school and never really felt overly confident that I could learn and apply mathematics in real life.
Over the past four weeks I have learned a great deal of information and how algebra can be
applied in real world applications. The course has been challenging but I feel that I am doing ok
and I am hopeful that I can pass this course and move on to attaining my degree. The course
material has at times been challenging to comprehend and apply. One of the most difficult parts
of the course has been with the course going on during the Christmas and New Years holiday. I
know in the past Grantham has advertised and granted extensions for assignment due dates
based on holidays. Being an active duty member in the military working full time and trying to
manage a home and work life balance it can be challenging especially during the holidays. I spent
most of Christmas day working on my pre test and quiz for week 3. Its tuff to break away from the
family and try to explain that I need to take care of my homework. But if this is whats required to
achieve my goal of earning a degree its a small price to pay. I think the study strategy that has
worked best is to use all available resources. I have read and watched

the people in that area don t need any more jobs. They earn their money by fishing wild red

How Did Yersinia Pestis Cause The Bubonic Plague
For centuries, plague ravaged the people living in Asia, Africa, and Europe, leading to destructive
plague outbreaks, contributing to massive panic in cities and countries where it appeared.
Believed to be the only antidote, cities would dig mass burial sites to dispose of the bodies of the
infected after their deaths, one of which was East Smithfield. East Smithfield was excavated in the
1980s and, thanks to the 2,400 bodies recovered from the graveyard, scientists were able to
reconstruct the genome from the bacterium that caused the bubonic plague, Yersinia pestis
(Callaway). Years before this discovery, Alexandre Yersin linked Yersinia pestis (Y. pestis) to the
bubonic plague; many scientists then surmised that the pathogen was behind not only the Black

The earliest recorded pandemic was believed to be the Justinian plague, named after the sixth

tying Y. pestis outbreaks came largely from historical accounts of symptoms, but the epidemics

effects include decrease in brain size, liver disease, cancer, malnutrition, cardiovascular disease,
alcohol poising, and death (American Addiction Centers, 2018).
Drug use such as cocaine also have short and long term effects. The short term effects of cocaine
include increased energy, anxiety, panic and restlessness. The long term effects include depression,
anxiety, insomnia, drug addiction, hallucination and fast breathing.

Fence Rail Research Paper
Has the chain link fence rail surrounding your commercial property recently been bent in a storm
or as the result of an intruder? If so, you may be worried that repairing this damage will cost a
small fortune and require the use of a professional contractor. However, the truth is, you can limit
the impact that these repairs have on your budget by simply choosing to do the job yourself. Best
of all, completing this task can be much easier than you think when simply following the steps
outlined below.
Supplies You Will Need

Step 1: Remove Damaged Rail
Begin by removing the section of damaged rail by cutting the rail into manageable sections using a
hacksaw. The friction caused by this sawing process may result in hot metal sparks. ... Show more

Begin by measuring the space between your fencing posts to ensure you are choosing the right
size rail for the job. Next, remove the post cap, brace bands, and tension bands from the fencing
post on one side of the new rail. This will allow you to slide the new rail into place.
After sliding the rail into place, simply attach the end of the rail to the rail cap. Next, replace the
brace bands to hold the rail in place.
Step 3: Attach Chain Link
Stretch the chain link over the posts and ensure that the brace bands and post caps are in place
before using your pliers to tighten the bolts that connect this fencing material to your newly
installed rail. While this process can be completed on your own, it is much easier to complete with
two set of hands so don t be afraid to ask a co worker or friend for help.
Once the chain link is in place, reattach the tension bars that were removed in the previous step.
This will hold the fencing tight between the surrounding fence posts.
Finally, use your tie wires to secure the chain link to your new top rail.

Factors Affecting The Health And Social Care Services
The key factors that drive change in health and social care services are mostly known through
SWOT and PEST analysis. PEST is an acronym for political, economic, social and technology.
PEST analysis investigates the important factors that are affecting the industry and influencing the
companies operating in the health and social care. PEST analyses are external factors and when
legal and environment are added it becomes PESTLE analyses.
SWOT analyses at the other hand are internal factors. SWOT is an acronym for strength, weakness,
opportunity and threat. All the internal factors such as structure, skills, staff, systems, and shared
values need to be considered in the change. The above mentioned internal factors are really
important to the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust (RUH).
Political factors including factors like government policies and legislation drive change in the
health and social care sector. The political factors are known to have influence on the structure of
the organization, the professional practice, the distribution of services and the quality of services.
An example of a recent government policy on the NHS, is the introduction of charges to overseas
patients introduced by the British government led by the Tory party. Which makes it illegal for the
NHS to see overseas patients free of charge.
Economic factors include the consumer expenditure and disposal of income; unemployment and
recruitment, labor cost, and funding of health and social care

How Is Cronus Selfish
The Greek God, Cronus was a devilish one. While being one of the smartest gods, Cronus still
fell for a trick played by his sister and wife Rhea the goddess of fertility, new generation, and
motherhood. In early adulthood, he dethroned his father with a sickle given by his mother,
imprisoned his brothers after gaining authority, and later swallowed his children whole in fear of
being overthrown just like he had done to his father. This action did not work due to his hidden
son, Zeus, who he was later dethroned by. Cronus( also spelt Kronus, Kronos, and Cronos) was the
God of all time and son of Earth (Gaia) and Sky (Uranus). He is often described as being a ...wily,

Same Day Allocation
Background The same day cancellation of an elective surgery is a well researched quality problem
that can have negative consequences on many stakeholders, including the patient and their support
networks. High cancellation rates can demonstrate ineffective use of healthcare resources, deficient
surgical team morale, and decreased patient satisfaction (1). Currently, there is limited Canadian
research on the patients perspective of their surgery cancellation or postponement. Much of the
literature focuses on the incidence and causes of cancellations both in Canada and internationally
(2,3), however the time definition of when the surgery is cancelled varies between studies. Some
researchers define day of as the same calendar date; others define day of as 12:00pm or 1:00pm
the day prior to the scheduled surgery (4). Additionally, some studies have reported on only elective
cancellations, whereas others... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In previous literature, patients have demonstrated and expressed feelings of helplessness,
powerlessness and anxiety (6,9). Surgical interventions and procedures invoke strong reactions
around pain, complication risk and death for the patient and their families (5). Additionally, in the
preoperative phase of waiting to be transferred to the operating room, previous studies have shown
that this can be the most frightening time for many patients (5,6,9). When this preoperative waiting
time is compounded with the sudden cancellation or postponement of a patient s surgery, many
patients experience heightened negative effects (5,9). The aim of this study is to first identify
causes and incidence of cancellations or postponements of same day elective surgery at Lions Gate
Hospital. Secondly, the aim is also to gain a deeper perspective and understanding in the qualitative
impact and effect that day of cancellations, or postponements, has on the patient and their support
systems.

Plan for Action to Help a Student
A.Necessary Leadership Action The leadership action that involves one or more groups of
community stakeholders is creating a team to create an action plan for one student that attendance
has declined and because of the number of missed days, academic achievement has also declined.
A1. Why Action is Necessary This action is necessary because the student involved is not showing
academic growth and having anxiety with attending school. Attendance has decreased because the
student does not want to attend school due to issues with the classroom teacher, as well as other
students within this class. Because of the attendance drop, this student s grades have also shown a

Once the plan is written, the specific resources will be developed along with who is responsible for
providing the resource.
B4. Use of Collegial Resources
Collegial resources that will be used will be dependent on what is included within the action plan.
The area director of curriculum and instruction, as well as the student s former administration
team will be asked to be a part of the group. The former administration team is important to
include in the development of the action plan because they can bring in resources that have
worked within their own school with this student. They can also provide insight on what
strategies may not work when developing the plan. The area director will be an important part of
the team because she will be able to offer resources that are used in other area schools. This will
allow the team to create a variety of strategies that may not be available within the student s school.
D1. Impact of Stakeholder Input
The stakeholder input impacted the execution of the plan because it gave the team an opportunity
to know what has worked in the past and what strategies were not as effective. This allowed
strategies to be eliminated or added to the plan. The parents provided information about what
motivated the child at home which was included in the plan which helped to achieve the goals.

Death and Dying Project
Every culture has their own way to deal with the dying and dead. Some like to bury their dead,
some will cremate, and others will just leave the body in the open. Every culture has their own
special and specific way to do things. Some might mourn and others will celebrate.
In Vietnam when a person is about to die family comes and visits, this is the moment of silence.
The olds son or daughter would then bend over to hear the persons last dying words. At this time
the oldest member of the family would then suggest a new name for the person, because it is bad

The funeral would normally be held three days after the person had died. On the day of the
funeral, friends and family would have a memorial dinner. Then, on the ninth day, when the soul
is believed to leave the body, a special church service and dinner are held. Fourteen days after the
person has died, the soul is said to depart for the other world, and a service and dinner party are
again held. At every one of these parties, a glass of vodka covered by a piece of black bread is
left for the deceased. This would be the opposite of the traditional Russian custom of breaking
black bread when meeting someone for the first time. Traditionally the person s body would lay
untouched and uncovered for the three days until the burial; however, cremations are becoming
more popular because of how inexpensive they are.
People would wear weeds, or drab clothing in black, to prevent the dead from returning. Covering
the head in a black kerchief and wearing black continues for 40 days after the death. People also
cover mirrors, stop watches, and take the TV from the room where the body lies in wait. When
the body is carried to be buried its carried with its legs extended forward and done so that no part
of the body touches the house on its way out, because of the fear that the dead will return to their
home and take someone with them.

The Importance Of Governance And Value Chain
Introduction IT governance is a way that organizations establish a structure for decision making,
how they describe the leadership and establish who will be accountable for the IT work that needs
to be done. IT governance needs to start at the top and every other level in the organization need to
participate for it to be successful. Governance is especially important within IT because it helps
them to better understand the requirements and strategies of the business. IT is then in a better
position to mitigate IT risks which in turn make them more of a value to the business than just an
expense.
IT Governance and Value ChainIT governance can be defined in many ways, but Weil (2004) best

Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) fits IT service delivery because it is split into
two generic standards which are service delivery and support. Implementing Information
Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is a challenging undertaking for information technology
(IT) departments. ITIL requires orientations toward the customers needs, services, and
organizational processes, which more technically oriented IT departments may find challenging.
They go on to explain ITIL by letting us know that it consists of 25 processes, covering almost
every task in IT operations, which must be analyzed and redesigned during an ITIL
implementation, and consequently, ITIL will affect almost every member of the staff and lead to
the rearranging of work practices and worker roles. (Iden, Eikebrokk, 2014, p. 292)
IS role in support of the value chain There has been a long need for IS governance within
organizations. Information security governance is important to organizations because they have a
real need to change their views on IT functions and not just consider them to be solely technical
issues. There are four value streams in the IT value chain that the IS role supports. Those four
steams are as follows: the strategy to portfolio, the requirement to deploy, the request to fulfill and
detect to correct. These four value streams are at the center of the service model. They work
together and play a vital role then it comes to the support or the supply chain.

The Importance Of The Internet Speech
In the majority of expression cases, educators have challenged reprisals for their speech outside the
classroom including their Internet speech. During the 1970s and early 1980s, courts relied on the
Pickering guidelines in striking down a variety of restrictions on teachers rights to express views on
matters of public concern. Since the early 1980s, however, courts have seemed increasingly
inclined to view teachers and other public employees expression as relating to private employment
disputes rather than to matters of public concern. Many courts relied on Connick in broadly
interpreting what falls under the category of unprotected private grievances. To illustrate, courts
considered the following types of expression to be unprotected: discussing salaries during a break;
filing a grievance about being assigned a job sharing teaching position; accusing the superintendent
of inciting student disturbances; sending sarcastic, critical memoranda to school officials;
protesting unfavorable performance evaluations; and commenting about class size and lack of
discipline. Yet, when courts have applied the Pickering balancing test, they often distinguished
whether disruption to school operations was truly caused by the employee s speech versus the
impermissible heckler s veto that is, courts have analyzed whether the disruption was caused by
outsiders attempting to silence the speech instead of the speech itself. A New York school district

Tyranny In The United States Essay
The United States democracy is an effective system of government carefully crafted by the
founding fathers to ensure that nobody can gain too much power over the rest. When the founding
fathers were drafting the constitution they were referring to a person or a group when referring to
Tyranny . Unfortunately tyranny has arisen in the United States, but not in the way anyone
expected, race has become a form of tyranny. The tyrannical white majority has been a large
influence in the United States ever since inception and have been substantially prevalent around
events in the US like reconstruction, civil rights movement, and the election of the first african
american president of the united states. Many have identified and have tried to counteract the
problem of tyranny of the white majority, but to no avail. Democratic reform like the Voting rights
act, civil rights act, brown v board of education, and the election of president obama have failed to
help counteract the problem of tyranny of the white majority seen in the United States. The tyranny
of the white majority doesn t have one specific definition, but it is ever prevalent in society. The
definition has been reformed over time with changing times. The tyranny of the white majority is a
system of oppression in the us government where the whites in the united states have stronger
influence over laws and the general government giving the minorities less power in the government.

Persuasive Essay On Forethought To Adoption
Forethought to Adoption
While there are those that will argue against adoption, the real argument should be; potential
adoptive parents should plan sensibly and be prepared while considering all the details that will
play a role in the adoption process. Forethought to all the factors is impossible; there will always be
more questions, but they should not just jump in, adoption is not something you should make
irrational decisions about. This is a lifelong commitment that will affect your whole family, also
the life of a child. The public views adoptive children as the vulnerable party in adoption, agencies
acknowledge that adoptive parents are also vulnerable. Prospective parents face stressful individual
and collective role transition challenges as they anticipate forming a new adoptive family. (Farber
176) For some parents, adoption challenges mobilize problem solving, coping resources, and
adaptive resolution. For others, these challenges become stressors, overtax coping resources, and
even contribute to family dissolution. (Farber 177)
Hence, as a potential adoptive parent or parents there are questions to grasp answers before any
decisions are made. What types of adoption are you contemplating? What factors you should be
considering during an adoption. Are you financially stable enough to go through the adoption
process, then provide an adopted child a decent life? There are numerous factors to consider after
you have made the decision to adopt a child; however, these matters can be figured out, in the end
if you are ready to make a lifetime commitment, if you can love moreover provide for a child, if
you want this enough, you can make it happen.
An important part of this decision is what type of adoption are you contemplating? Private or
Independent domestic adoptions can be very expensive. A private adoption is when a family
privately adopts an infant through a lawyer, physician or facilitator as an alternative to using an
adoption agency. Whereas an independent adoption is when a birth mother gives a child to an
adoptive family without having representation, which is lawful in most states.
International adoption is difficult, also it can be costly; while some countries have limited the

Construction Of The Public Sphere
Gerard Hauser critiques Habermas construction of the public sphere, pointing out many of its
weaknesses. Hauser does concede that Habermas ideas about the public sphere are meant to focus
solely on the bourgeois public sphere and not include all public spheres; however, Habermas critics
have approached his model as universal, so it needs to be examined, contextually, as an approach to
universally understanding public spheres (47 48).
Because Hauser s approach to the public sphere is more dynamic than Habermas , by that I mean
that it purposefully engages multiple public spheres their individual autonomy as well as their
influence on other public spheres differences between the two rationales are presented. Hauser
points to six crucial differences, where he feels that Habermas missed the mark at understanding the
transformation of the public sphere. Hauser is concerned with how discourse realistically happens
within the public sphere, whereas, he argues, Habermas argument is contingent on the existence of
ideal speech (46).
Hauser s first problem with Habermas theory of the public sphere is that in order for Habermas
ideas to work, they need to be the only public sphere, that is, a universal public sphere. This is not
accurate of how discourse functions. Many discourse communities or public spheres function on
their own and have influence on each other. To suggest that there is only one public sphere forces
others to conform to that one universal

Gerard Jones s Violent Media Is Good For Youth
Since the evolution of pop culture in America, the introduction of violent media to young,
impressionable minds has been inevitable. As a child ages, they gradually adjust in response to
their environment. Accessibility to media, or lack thereof, significantly shapes a child s character
no matter the generation they come from. If adolescents are only familiar with rainbows and
sunshine, they will never be able to face the harsh truths of reality. Society teaches kids to fear and
bottle up feelings of violenceand the emotions associated with it, instead of expressing it in a
healthy way. This is ultimately not the way to achieve world peace. Nevertheless, ignorant adults
attempt to shelter youths from this potential outlet without thoroughly understanding its benefits.
American writer, Gerard Jones famous for his comic book and nonfiction writing has developed
a compelling perspective on this topic from his cloistered childhood, exhaustive research, and
parenting role. In his essay, Violent Media Is Good for Kids , Jones proves that exposure to violent
media is necessary to prepare children for the real world.
Usually the youth of the late 1960s a time of empowerment and liberation are thought of as wild
and outgoing, but not Gerard Jones. As a teenager he lived a somber life of submission and
seclusion. Following his parents directives , Jones rejected his genuine emotions and hid under the
façade of a nice boy (Jones 199). That all came crashing down when the frail

The Empire Of The Seljuk Ottoman Empire
One of the small Turkish nomadic tribes in Anatolia during the 13th century was a dynasty named
after the ruler Osman, the Ottomans. This small state emerged in Anatolia during the breakdown of
the empire of the Seljuk Turks. The Ottomans quickly became an undeniable force and ended all
other Turkish dynasties. The Ottoman Empirebecame one of the largest and longest lasting empires
in the world, ruling the majority of the Middle East, northern Africa and southeastern Europe for
over 600 years until its eventual fall in 1922.
The Ottomans were one of the numbers of Turkish tribes that migrated from Central Asia. Initially
they followed a primitive shamanistic religion. Their contacts with various tribes led to the
introduction of Islam and they acquired their greatest combat tradition, that of the ghazi warrior.
The first period of the Ottoman history was characterized by almost continuous territorial
expansion. The Ottoman dominion spread out from a small Anatolian principality to cover a major
amount of land in Middle East and southeastern Europe.
Following the final defeat of the Seljuk Empire in 1293, Osman, the founder of the Ottoman
dynasty, led his principality to take over Byzantine Bithynia in northwestern Anatolia, commanded
the ghazis against the Byzantines. Osman and his successors concentrated their attacks on
Byzantine territories bordering the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara to the west. The Ottomans

people and government. Your class would be chosen by your job, money, and if you were under
government power. The only job poor people had were working on farms. They were not able to
leave the area that they worked on. They dressed simple, and ate lots of bread and other simple
foods. The poor people had very tiny homes with a maximum of four bedrooms. As long as they
had a roof over their head they were satisfied. Citizens were the ones who weren t farmers, they
had tons of free time and loved telling their friends stories. They had money to eat expensive
foods, and they loved to go on family trips together. They also loved bread and ate tons of bread.
If you were considered a French citizen you ate nothing but tons of soup. The government was
filled with rich people; their houses were small palaces. They would go to bug dinners and eat
tons of food like soups, wines and meats. The most expensive food there was the soups. There
were more than 50 different types of soups. Trading was very good because it lets things like
spices and silk move around. Some very important trading centers were Asia, Florence, and Venice.

In that time there were new ideas for a new Christian church named Protestantism and a new
philosophy called humanism. Before the renaissance young children were treated like small
adults, they were expected to do lots of things. Everyone expected them to talk, act and dress like
adults. The children were also told to get jobs as soon as they can. The parents to the children did
not show the children feelings nor emotions. As soon as people started gaining more free time and
money during the renaissance, they began to treat their children differently. Rich people s children
were treated nicely and had time to enjoy their

The Democratic And The Republican Parties Dominate...

Government 110
Political Ideology
The Democratic and the Republican parties dominate American politics. They are both different in
their philosophies and ideals. Political parties win elections, operate the government, and determine
public policy. They compete with each other for support of the voters over issues that have to do
with the economy, national security and individual liberties. Political parties determine and make
the important choices that affect our everyday lives. Democratic is liberal and left leaning, the
symbol is a donkey and the representing color is blue. Republican is conservative and right leaning,
the symbol is an elephant and the representing color is red. The three political topics that stick out
to me the most are abortion, gun control, and gay rights/marriage. The Democratic Party was
founded on March 3rd, 1828. The founders of liberal democrats are Thomas Jefferson and James
Madison. They became recognized in the mid nineteenth century. Some popular current democrats
would be President Barack Hussein Obama, former senator and secretary of state Hillary Clinton,
and former president Bill Clinton. The word is a Greek origin meaning ruled by the people. Slave
activists founded Republicans on March 4th, 1854. Some popular republicans today are Ted Cruz
(senator), Orrin Grant Hatch, and John Boehner speaker of the house of reps. The word Republican
originates from the middle French meaning belonging to a republic. One

1. Marketing specialists at Napanee Beer Co. developed a new advertising campaign for summer
sales. The ads were particularly aimed at sports events where Napanee Beer sold kegs of beer on
tap. The marketing group worked for months with a top advertising firm on the campaign. Their
effort was successful in terms of significantly higher demand for Napanee Beer s keg beer at sports
stadiums. However, the production department had not been notified of the marketing campaign
and was not prepared for the increased demand.
The company was forced to buy empty kegs at a premium price. It also had to brew some of the ...

These factors create certain expectations and requirements for organizations, which in turns
determine the organization s direction and strategy. Whereas internal environment is made up of
several internal subsystems. Internal subsystems work together systematically and drive the
organization in the direction which is in conformity to external environment demands; thereby
making the organization effective and a good fit with external environment. (McShane amp; Steen,
2012, p.6)
Open systems perspective also suggests that organization s efficiency is equally important to it s
success. An organization is efficient when it produces more outputs with less then normally
required inputs, and when it s internal subsystems have good coordination among them. But this is
difficult in reality. Because there are some negative elements in subsystems such as
miscommunication and hostilities, which undermine efficiency of organization. These elements
cannot be eliminated as subsystems of an organization are also open systems and organization gets
affected by them also. (McShane amp; Steen, 2012, p.6)
According to the open systems theory (McShane amp; Steen,2012), The subsystems of organization
Napanee Beer were not operating efficiently, because there was absence of diligent communication
between the marketing group and the production team. Production department was unaware of the
increased demand for the product and could

Abuse In Nursing
Bulling, physical and nonphysical abuse are multifaceted persistent occupational problems facing
the nursing profession. This includes Register Nurses(RN s) and Licesnse Nurses (LPN s)
Although these problems at the workplace has been recognized globally, a culture of silence still
prevails and abuse gets overlooked in many institutions in the United States and worldwide . This
paper provides a quantitative review that estimates exposure rates by type of violence, setting,

Studies have proved that nurses continuously face physical, emotional and verbal abuse in their
workplace settings by patients, patient s families, physicians, administrators, fellow nurses and
other healthcare workers (Judkins Cohn, 2010). According to a limited number of studies, verbal
abuse experienced by nurses negatively impact their morale and job performance influencing the
quality of patient care. In some cases, nurses just transfer to a different unit or department because
of experiencing verbal or physical abuse.

Aestheticism In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
The Picture of Dorian Grey In The Picture of Dorian Grey, Oscar Wilde, sets out to show the
influence of aestheticism in late Victorian era. The philosophy of aestheticism was that art
should be judged purely by its beauty and form rather than by any underlying moral message art
for art s sake that art merely exist to be beautiful (Buzwell). In writing the preface of the novel
Wilde writes, all art is quite useless. (Wilde 4) This statement is in contrast to the events that
take place in the novel. The artwork reflects the evil actions of Dorian Grey and a myriad of
characters are impacted by the influence the portrait has on its subject. As the novel begins
Basil Hallward is in awe of Dorian Grey. It is apparent that Basil Hallward admires Dorian s
physical beauty to excess. He paints the young handsome gentleman with enthusiasm. Basil s
artistic expression creates a masterpiece. When first describing Dorian to Lord Henry, Basil
describes how Dorian has become integral to his artistic expression, suggesting that Basil s
interest consists most essentially in Dorian s physical beauty, since that can be represented in
Basil s art. As Basil is finishing the portrait and once he is done, almost everything that he says to
Dorian is flattery of Dorian s beauty. Dorian becomes in love with the painting and with his own
beauty. He grew more and more enamoured of his own beauty, more and more interested in the
corruption of his own soul. Basil is

Arthur Radley Evil
In To Kill a Mockingbird, the development of the character Arthur Radley is instrumental in
understanding the ethical injustices of the time. Harper Lee presents Arthur in a way as to suggest
and influence the initial perception of him. Scout describes, The Radley place was inhabited by an
unknown entity the mere description of whom was enough to make us behave for days on end (Lee
6). Because the children are intimidated by Arthur, they attempt to avoid him. However, as such,
their understanding is solely based off of rumors. The element of the unknown surrounding Arthur
allows for imaginative explanations and fear. Accordingly, as the children never saw Arthur, they
had no real, cemented image of him. Jem imagines, [Arthur] dined on raw... Show more content on

Scout comes to realize Arthur Radley s kindness and concern for others. Mrs. Maudie
remembers, That is a sad house. I remember Arthur Radley when he was a boy. He always spoke
nicely to me, no matter what folks said he did. Spoke as nicely as he knew how (46). Before
Arthur retreated inside his home, he is reportedly well mannered, compassionate, and sociable.
This suggests that a tragic incident plagued Arthur, forcing him to retract from human contact. In
correspondence, the children discover that Arthur s father was a foot washing Baptist . Mrs.
Maudie conveys, but sometimes the Bible in the hand of one man is worse than a whiskey
bottle in the hand of oh, of your father . . . There are just some kind of men who who re so busy
worrying about the next world they ve never learned to live in this one, and you can look down the
street and see the results (45). As a foot washing Baptist, Mr. Radley denounced enjoyable,
pleasurable luxuries or simplicities. Therefore, he would condemn Arthur for his friendly
excursions, as a kid, and he diminishes and confines Arthur s will to the house. In result, the
children are enticed by his absence and his pleasant demeanor is forgotten. Harper Lee utilized
Arthur Radley s solitude and negative reputation to exemplify the erroneous and unfounded
conceptions of certain degrees of injustice individuals, that the children will

Tariq ibn Ziyad crossed the Straight of Gibraltar at first with the sole intention of avenging king
Roderic for the crime he committed. However, because of the weakness of the kingdom due to
civil war, Tariq opted to continue his occupation of Roderic s entire empire. Another theory for the
occupation by the Arab Muslims of Spain is that because of their persecution, the Jews called upon
their contacts in North Africa, who in turn encouraged the able Arabs to capture Spain. This
allowed the Almoravids and the Almohads to establish themselves in Spain.Nevertheless, without
a doubt, the Jews supported and welcomed Muslims in Spain because they were great

There is a growing interest in ethics in all industries. All managers face ethical dilemmas and the
visitor attraction sector is not an exception. In particular the ethical challenges that refer to the

has been recognized as a distinct type of tourismduring the 1970s when it became apparent that
some tourists have been motivated to travel by their desire to better understand the culture and the
heritage of a touristic destination. Cultural tourism differentiates form the typical sea, sand and sun

Thus, the theatre of Dionysus is regarded to be the birthplace of ancient drama. It is the
prototype of all of Greek theatres and it is the place that classical Greek plays have been first
presented to the audience. The first part of the theatre that has been built is the orchestra, namely
a 60 feet circular floor (Moretti 2000, 392 395). Afterwards, in the 5th century B. C. the theatre
served as the center of the plays contests and hence a wooden benches auditorium has been
constructed, whereas behind the orchestra a scene has been set. During the 4th century B. C.
wooden benches had been replaced by stone seats and the theatre could accommodate 17,000
spectators, whereas a stone scene has been constructed. In the period of the Roman Empire a
number of revisions took place (Travlos 1971, 537), but in the following years the theatre of
Dionysus fell into disuse and gradually it has been abandoned. In 1765 it has been rediscovered
and during the 19th century German archaeologists undertook a significant archaeological
restoration (Bieber 1961, 54 55,

Theme Of The Power And The Glory By Green
As a catholic writer, Greene stands for Catholicism with its spiritual concept inside the individual.
In The power and the glory, he criticizes the ideological authorities, the church and the Marxist
government, which create anger and tension in the world at the expense of people s need for
spiritual comfort which they find only in religion. From an objective perspective, Greene presents
the reality of the two authorities; the church with its pride and deception, and the Marxist
government with its violence and coldness. Both carry noble aims, but when it comes to
application, corruption prevails, and nothing is left to hold on but religion.
The power and the Glory is based on different levels of anger. The first one is the outrage at the

Analysis Of The Poem Death Of Santa Claus
We all believe in the tooth fairy, the boogeyman, and Santa Claus when we re little. Well, for me
it was a family of ghosts with the skin color of blue and blood dripping down their mouths and if
they get me, they eat me. The children ghosts eat more than the adults; therefore, they are the
scarier. Another of my worst childhood experiences was with Dokkaebi, or goblins. My mother
carved melons into claws and feet and boiled them saying they were goblins. I was scarred for life
at the age of four. The Death of Santa Clausby Charles Webb is a poem about a not so Jolly Santa
and his not so merry band suffering because of a nonbeliever and a boy in Texas is talking to his
mom about how stupid kids at school say Santa s a big fake. In this... Show more content on

This poem reminds me of a kid I met when I was little. Since believing in Santa Claus is an
American tradition and I m the first generation Korean American in my family, we don t follow
/ celebrate holidays in America so I knew Santa was a fake (I also don t celebrate Christmas
because I am agnostic). I met this boy when we were in third grade and he was talking about
leprechauns. Yes, leprechauns. I didn t even know what a leprechaun was back then. He said his
mother and little brother captured one and forced it to give the location of where it hid the gold.
Well, my other fellow classmates laughed at him and said leprechauns are not real and then they
asked the boy if he believed in Santa. The boy said yes and the classmates said to him, Santa s
not real dummy. Eventually the boy refused the fact Santa was a fake and he started bawling.
My third grade teacher, Mrs. Gamper, had to comfort him. I was wondering, isn t it cruel of
adults to make their kids think these fairytale creatures who make miracles, are actually real?
They eventually have to say to their kid, I m sorry I lied to you for all these years. I think these
stories are actually making a child s trust and happiness drop because one, they re parents lied to
them; two,

Miserable Routines In Ethan Frome By Edith Wharton
There was no way out none. He was a prisoner for life, and now his one ray of light to be
extinguished (Wharton 29). Miserable routines caused by terrible occurrences trappes Ethan
Frome every single day. Edith Wharton opposes the idea of following any routine. Wharton
expresses that routines and cycles prevent a person from expressing their own desires or achieving
their personal goals in life. These cycles prohibit a person from seeing changes within their
environment and possible opportunities that could improve their life. Even if a person breaks free
from a routine, an endless amount of reasons exist to pull them back in. Ethan Fromemomentarily
escapes from his daily routine to pursue his education, but not far into this break he has to return
in order to help his family. Ethan Frome somehow found a way out of his miserable routine, but
failed to take that exit; resulting in a life much worse than before. Finding a way out seems like a
reasonable solution to escape bad situations, but taking such a great risk to completely change one s
entire life, seems nearly impossible for any citizens of Starkfield. In the novella, Ethan Frome, Edith
Wharton exemplifies how routines deny a person from reaching their full potential through the
constant pull Ethan and other members of Starkfield receive to follow their normal, average routine
and not follow their desires.
The Frome household contained many illnesses over many years, bringing in people outside of the

Analyzing Zizek s Concept Of The Passion For Real
6.Examine Zizek s concept of the passion for the Real in relation to the events of September 11,
2001. BBC News reports on September 11, 2001 (9/11) there were multiple attacks by Al Qaeda
terrorists in America (p.1). The planes crashed into the main building of the New York City
(NY): World trade centre (WTC) and Pentagon. As a result about 3000 people died during this
event. BBC (2015) identified it as symbolic violence. (p.1). The ramifications of this event were
reported by media presenting drastic images/videos of building collapsing, fire, people jumping
off the building, etc. The media presented the video constantly over and over when the plane
crashed into the WTC (Baudains, 2013). Zizek (2002) emphasis on the imagery symbolic reality
of everyday experience as a feature of the twentieth century. Zizek (2002) applies his concept
Passion for real to critically examine the consequences of the 9/11 event. He explains Passion
for real is a desire to perceive things in a more realistic way. For him Real is what you achieve
when you peel off the subtle layers of outside world/reality. He argues that the concept of Real is
driven by hollowness and is not presentable. The passion of for real is to search and explore for
reliability destined to fail the situation, as the real is given a symbolic form. He believes that when
informed about events like 9/11 by news the only experience of reality we have is through the
videos and photographs that are

Rwanda Case Study
In December 2015, the President accepted an offer from People s Republic of China (PRC) of
military training assistance intended to support troops engaged in peacekeeping operations (PKO)
and counterterrorism efforts in Africa. Given that Rwanda ranks fifth in the world, among United
Nations PKO troop contributing countries, and also engaged in counterterrorism efforts in the
world, Rwanda will inevitably benefit from this Chinese assistance package. Therefore, on 22
November 2017, the National Defence Council will meet to review strategies to engage the PRC
on training assistance and military to military relations. The council will also assess China s
assistance and identify areas that China could support Rwanda Defence Force (RDF). Key... Show

Another important factor is that terrorist acts, violent extremism, and radicalization are active in the
region and pose a serious threat. These two endeavors, PKO and counterterrorism require a lot of
resources and commitment. So Rwanda maintains a commitment to the world s peace and security
by contributing peacekeepers to both United Nations (UN) and African union (AU), and to combat
terrorism in the region. However, to maintain the contribution of troops in terms of quantity and
quality in PKO and combating terrorism require significant financial resources that Rwanda does
not have. It is this background, the president accepted the Chinese assistance package to support
PKO commitment and counterterrorism efforts within the region and in the world. However, the
assistance offer should not compromise our national interests: sovereignty, peace and security, as
well as national unity and dignity, values and freedoms, and Rwanda relationship with the United
States of America and European Union countries. Secondly, China s assistance should adhere to
Rwanda s Aid Policy principles stated in Rwanda Aid Policy 2006 document, which align with
national priorities, enhance country ownership, and allow for mutual accountability. Rwanda s
objective is to get assistance to support PKO and counter terrorism efforts. However, the assistance
should not recede Rwanda s Aid Policy

A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare
A Midsummer Night s Dream Lord, what fools these mortals be (Shakespeare, 1546)! In the
beginning of this play, Hermia refuses her fathers demands to marry Demetrius because she
loves Lysander. Her disobedience enrages her father so he presents Theseus with his dilemma,
which does not work as well as he had hoped (Gianakaris). Hermia is presented with two
alternative options, but neither suits her well. She runs off into the woods with Lysander to get
married and from this, a chain of events arises. To make matters even more complicated, Puck is
sent out to get the juice of a flower that, when poured in eyelids while asleep, makes people fall
in love with the first creature they see. Situations arise from this love juice, and the plot thickens.
In this play, Shakespeare creates a social commentary through the use of the themes of love,
magic, dreams, and art and culture. The course of true love never did run smooth (Shakespeare,
1516). In this quote from the play, Lysander perfectly sums up one of the most important themes
this play has presented to us, the hardships of love. Although a great deal of conflict arises from
the romantic entities this play bestows upon us, it is not precisely a tale of love. It isolates the
audience from the characters emotions in order to mock the suffering and ailments love presents to
those infatuated in it. The cheerful and carefree tone this play has from the very beginning, makes
it easy to enjoy the comedic nature of it without

Private Property In John Locke s Social Contract In his social contract, Locke also specified the purpose of a legitimate government and clarified how a legitimate government can exercise authority. Aside from providing security and addressing inconveniences found in the state of nature, Locke argued that the purpose of government is to protect people s private property. Property is a profound component of Locke s social contract as it is tangible and gives people more autonomy over their lives. However, everything deteriorates around noon, when her paycheck along with half of the rent money, withers to nothing. Now, desperate and hollow, she chases those losses with bigger bets, focusing on nothing but the outcome of those wheels as they spin before her eyes. Telling herself, It s just me and you. Make it happen. Sinking further into that sick feeling, as each time the wheels stop rolling, feeling chained to the machine. Yet people also do things requiring perception and thought unconsciously even when they are awake. A person can be conscious of their physical surroundings, pain and even a wish or fantasy. In short a creatureis conscious if it is aware of itself and that it is a physical and emotional being. Consciousnessis a psychological condition defined by the English philosopher John Locke as quot;the perception of what passes in a man s own mind quot;.1 Consciousness is defined and perceived differently in many psychological view points. In this view the mind is transparent to itself that is, it can perceive it s own activity. For three centuries self transparence was the defining feature of the mind. That conception was sprung through the theories of Wilhelm Wundt and Edward Titchener who were advocates off a science of introspection. Early in the 20th century the transparency doctrine came to a setback for three different reasons. The first reason was Sigmund Freud s compelling evidence that some very important mental activity is not only subconscious but firmly resists conscious access through repression. At first Freud s idea of unconscious was treated as self contradictory, but it has since won acceptance as being useful and entirely possible. the second difficulty for the transparency doctrine was that it made the mind impossible for objective science. What is known introspectively to a single person would be utterly private and therefore can not be viewed scientifically. Scientific method demands objectivity and reportable data. The behaviorists John B. Watson and B.F. Skinner and the philosopher Gilbert Ryle rebelled against the idea of an inner sense and denied the very existence of consciousness in the strong sense exhibited by Locke, Descartes and the introspective psychologists.3 Ryle insisted that mind is an illusory concept and that it is ... Its primary focus is used for helping teachers improve their performance by learning from each other. Merit Pay can take the form of a bonus or a permanent teacher salary increased. This motivates many teachers because they believe they are being evaluated more fairly than traditional evaluation. Merit pay is important to study because it s a one of the most controversial issue in the field of education and it does have an effect on school finance in the future. We should be concerned about using merit pay in our school system because most professions offer bonuses and salary increases for their exemplary employees why should the education profession be any different? Shouldn t we try and use incentives as we do with our students to motivate teachers to give their very best in educating our future leaders of tomorrow. Merit pay will recruit and retain some of the nation s brightest mind. Many people who have the capability to teach our students refused to do so due to teacher pay but with merit pay many of these individuals may consider working in the education profession. Thats because I had not taken a mathematics course since graduating high school in 1999. I struggled with match in high school and never really felt overly confident that I could learn and apply mathematics in real life. Over the past four weeks I have learned a great deal of information and how algebra can be applied in real world applications. The course material has at times been challenging to comprehend and apply. One of the most difficult parts of the course has been with the course going on during the Christmas and New Years holiday. Being an active duty member in the military working full time and trying to manage a home and work life balance it can be challenging especially during the holidays. I spent most of Christmas day working on my pre test and quiz for week 3. Its tuff to break away from the family and try to explain that I need to take care of my homework. How Did Yersinia Pestis Cause The Bubonic Plague For centuries, plague ravaged the people living in Asia, Africa, and Europe, leading to destructive plague outbreaks, contributing to massive panic in cities and countries where it appeared. Believed to be the only antidote, cities would dig mass burial sites to dispose of the bodies of the infected after their deaths, one of which was East Smithfield. East Smithfield was excavated in the 1980s and, thanks to the 2,400 bodies recovered from the graveyard, scientists were able to reconstruct the genome from the bacterium that caused the bubonic plague, Yersinia pestis (Callaway). During the 1970s and early 1980s, courts relied on the Pickering guidelines in striking down a variety of restrictions on teachers rights to express views on matters of public concern. Since the early 1980s, however, courts have seemed increasingly inclined to view teachers and other public employees expression as relating to private employment disputes rather than to matters of public concern. Many courts relied on Connick in broadly interpreting what falls under the category of unprotected private grievances. To illustrate, courts considered the following types of expression to be unprotected: discussing salaries during a break; filing a grievance about being assigned a job sharing teaching position; accusing the superintendent of inciting student disturbances; sending sarcastic, critical memoranda to school officials; protesting unfavorable performance evaluations; and commenting about class size and lack of discipline. Yet, when courts have applied the Pickering balancing test, they often distinguished whether disruption to school operations was truly caused by the employee s speech versus the impermissible heckler s veto that is, courts have analyzed whether the disruption was caused by outsiders attempting to silence the speech instead of the speech itself. Democratic reform like the Voting rights act, civil rights act, brown v board of education, and the election of president obama have failed to help counteract the problem of tyranny of the white majority seen in the United States. The tyranny of the white majority doesn t have one specific definition, but it is ever prevalent in society. The definition has been reformed over time with changing times. • 34. Persuasive Essay On Forethought To Adoption Forethought to Adoption While there are those that will argue against adoption, the real argument should be; potential adoptive parents should plan sensibly and be prepared while considering all the details that will play a role in the adoption process. Forethought to all the factors is impossible; there will always be more questions, but they should not just jump in, adoption is not something you should make irrational decisions about. This is a lifelong commitment that will affect your whole family, also the life of a child. The public views adoptive children as the vulnerable party in adoption, agencies acknowledge that adoptive parents are also vulnerable. Prospective parents face stressful individual and collective role transition challenges as they anticipate forming a new adoptive family. (Farber 176) For some parents, adoption challenges mobilize problem solving, coping resources, and adaptive resolution. For others, these challenges become stressors, overtax coping resources, and even contribute to family dissolution. (Farber 177) Hence, as a potential adoptive parent or parents there are questions to grasp answers before any decisions are made. What types of adoption are you contemplating? What factors you should be considering during an adoption. Are you financially stable enough to go through the adoption process, then provide an adopted child a decent life? There are numerous factors to consider after you have made the decision to adopt a child; however, these matters can be figured out, in the end if you are ready to make a lifetime commitment, if you can love moreover provide for a child, if you want this enough, you can make it happen. An important part of this decision is what type of adoption are you contemplating? Private or Independent domestic adoptions can be very expensive. A private adoption is when a family privately adopts an infant through a lawyer, physician or facilitator as an alternative to using an adoption agency. Whereas an independent adoption is when a birth mother gives a child to an adoptive family without having representation, which is lawful in most states. International adoption is difficult, also it can be costly; while some countries have limited the number of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Construction Of The Public Sphere Gerard Hauser critiques Habermas construction of the public sphere, pointing out many of its weaknesses. Hauser does concede that Habermas ideas about the public sphere are meant to focus solely on the bourgeois public sphere and not include all public spheres; however, Habermas critics have approached his model as universal, so it needs to be examined, contextually, as an approach to universally understanding public spheres (47 48). Because Hauser s approach to the public sphere is more dynamic than Habermas , by that I mean that it purposefully engages multiple public spheres their individual autonomy as well as their influence on other public spheres differences between the two rationales are presented. Hauser points to six crucial differences, where he feels that Habermas missed the mark at understanding the transformation of the public sphere. Hauser is concerned with how discourse realistically happens within the public sphere, whereas, he argues, Habermas argument is contingent on the existence of ideal speech (46). Hauser s first problem with Habermas theory of the public sphere is that in order for Habermas ideas to work, they need to be the only public sphere, that is, a universal public sphere. This is not accurate of how discourse functions. Many discourse communities or public spheres function on their own and have influence on each other. To suggest that there is only one public sphere forces others to conform to that one universal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Gerard Jones s Violent Media Is Good For Youth Since the evolution of pop culture in America, the introduction of violent media to young, impressionable minds has been inevitable. As a child ages, they gradually adjust in response to their environment. Accessibility to media, or lack thereof, significantly shapes a child s character no matter the generation they come from. If adolescents are only familiar with rainbows and sunshine, they will never be able to face the harsh truths of reality. Society teaches kids to fear and bottle up feelings of violenceand the emotions associated with it, instead of expressing it in a healthy way. This is ultimately not the way to achieve world peace. Nevertheless, ignorant adults attempt to shelter youths from this potential outlet without thoroughly understanding its benefits. American writer, Gerard Jones famous for his comic book and nonfiction writing has developed a compelling perspective on this topic from his cloistered childhood, exhaustive research, and parenting role. In his essay, Violent Media Is Good for Kids , Jones proves that exposure to violent media is necessary to prepare children for the real world. Usually the youth of the late 1960s a time of empowerment and liberation are thought of as wild and outgoing, but not Gerard Jones. As a teenager he lived a somber life of submission and seclusion. Following his parents directives , Jones rejected his genuine emotions and hid under the faГ§ade of a nice boy (Jones 199). That all came crashing down when the frail ...
