Essay About Globalisation
Writing an essay on the topic of globalization can be both challenging and intriguing. The
complexity arises from the multifaceted nature of globalization itself. It encompasses a wide
range of interconnected issues, such as economic integration, cultural exchange, political
implications, and the impact on various social aspects. Tackling such a broad and dynamic
concept requires a comprehensive understanding of its different dimensions.
One of the difficulties lies in navigating through the vast amount of information available on
globalization. The topic is ever-evolving, with ongoing global events shaping and reshaping its
dynamics. Staying up-to-date with the latest developments and incorporating them into the essay
can be demanding but is crucial for presenting a relevant and informed perspective.
Additionally, crafting a coherent and well-structured argument is a key challenge. Globalization
involves intricate interconnections, and weaving these connections into a logical narrative can be
a daunting task. Striking a balance between depth and conciseness is essential to avoid
overwhelming the reader with information while ensuring that the essay captures the complexity
of the topic.
Moreover, addressing the diverse viewpoints on globalization adds another layer of difficulty.
The subject often sparks debates and controversies, with proponents highlighting its benefits and
critics pointing out its drawbacks. Balancing these opposing perspectives requires a nuanced
approach and a thorough analysis of the arguments presented by different scholars and experts.
In conclusion, writing an essay on globalization demands a careful and informed exploration of
its multifaceted aspects. Navigating through the plethora of information, staying current with
global developments, crafting a cohesive argument, and addressing diverse viewpoints are all
integral parts of the writing process. However, overcoming these challenges can lead to a rich
and insightful exploration of this crucial phenomenon that shapes our interconnected world.

Mercedes Benz Written Communication
Mercedes Benz is a German automobile manufacturer that is known for luxury
automobiles, buses, and trucks. The German luxury car manufacturer has been
around for more than a century and has outlasted the rough bumps in automobile
history. The brand, represented by the three pointed star, stands for the aspiration to
deliver the best in terms of products, technology and services. Mercedes Benzcars are
seen as some of the best cars in the world, standing as symbols of beautiful quality
and innovative engineering.
Analysis of Mercedes Benz Written Communication
On the Mercedes Benz homepage, if you scroll through it you will see the word
innovation being tossed about constantly. This is because, I believe, Mercedes Benz
wants the consumer to know that they are always innovating their products and they
are the leaders of the automobile industry today, tomorrow and in the future. On their
homepage, the company points to their many achievements over the century since
their conception. More specifically the many firsts they have been pioneers in. For
example, the first motor car was made by Carl Benz, the founder, which forever
changed the way people moved and how that car sparked the legacy of innovation.
By utilizing their history, Mercedes set themselves apart from other automobile
makers as always remaining the first. Continuing forward with their first theme, on
their website they also mention how Bertha Benz, Carl s wife, was the first female
driver in history as
The Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne

The Scarlet Letter was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne in 1850 which is based on
the time frame of the Puritans, a religious group who arrived in Massachusetts in the
1630 s. The Puritans were in a religious period that was known for the strict social
norms in which lead to the intolerance of different lifestyles. Nathaniel Hawthorne
uses the puritan s strict lifestyles to relate to the universal issues among us. The time
frame of the puritans resulted in Hawthorne eventually thinking that the puritans
lifestyle as too extreme. Transcendentalism was a philosophical way of thinking for
oneself, and not letting the belief of society alter the personal opinion.
Transcendentalism correlates with The Scarlet Letter and its characters as they battle
society s set values of what is socially right or wrong. Adultery and which craft are
just two of the topics that would not be exceptional to the puritans. Hawthorne came
to realization that everyone is human and as humans we make mistakes, we should
not punish each mistake to the extreme. Using the original work of Nathaniel
Hawthorne and the literary criticism of three critics, I analyze the different
interpretations of the scarlet letter in terms of individualism, conformity, and
homoerotic dynamics. While researching the scarlet letter I found many different
perceptions of the novel, The Scarlet letter is a story that changes interpretation
The Future Of Renewable Energy
Renewable energy constitutes the energy coming from sources that do not get
depleted with time. These sources are not typically exhausted and are environmental
friendly. Although this paper will focuses more on hydropower, the types of
renewable energy sources available in Canada include solar power, wind power,
geothermal energy, ocean energy, and bio energy. Renewable energy
in Canada has as
well had its environmental impacts. The outcomes pose various impacts to the
environment either positively or negatively and end up affecting people s lives.
Canada has had greater embrace on renewable energy, particularly hydropower and
nuclear. In 2011, it was the sixth largest wind power producer worldwide. In Ontario,
there are numerous photovoltaic plants of power. A tidal plant is located in
Annapolis found in Nova Scotia, and it utilizes the tides generated by the Fundy Bay.
Canada has over twenty hydro power stations majority of these located in
Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec and Labrador (Islam, Fartaj Ting,
2013).
A brief look at the sources of Renewable energy in Canada
It is quite notable that Canada has the large reserves of renewable energy. In the
year 2012, it produced three times more renewable energy than the whole of
Germany (McKirdy Solar Energy Society of Canada, 2011). Sources of renewable
energy include:
Tidal energy: Canada has North America s only tidal plant. This is located in

History And Safety Regulations Of Ancient Egyptian Women
Menstruation is a natural and necessary process that has been occurring since human
beings can remember. Because of this necessary process, forms of sanitary
protection have been concocted to meet the needs of women to care for themselves
during their menstrual bleeding period. There have been numerous approaches used
by women from all over the world and over the years. Of the numerous materials,
used to collect and dispose of menstrual waste, two have remained most popular, the
pad and the tampon. While many might use, and be familiar with their use in their
menstrual hygiene, not much is known about what is put in or on them and the
regulations surrounding them. This paper hopes to shed a light on the history and
safety regulations surrounding the popular menstrual hygiene products pads and
tampons. This papers hopes to answer whether these products are safe.
Some of the earliest records we have concerning menstrual hygiene solutions are
those of ancient Egyptian women. Egyptian records, that date back to the 15th
century B.C., reveal that women, often wealthy, used internal plugs made from
soft papyrus or wool. Poorer women, who might not have been able to afford soft
papyrus or wool were recorded to have used softened aquatic grasses (Farage 101).
Their Greek counterparts, as written by Hippocrates, a famous ancient Greek
physician, were said to have created internal plugs as well from lint wrapped around
a small piece of wood. The ancient Romans, another civilized

The equipment is also out of the price range for most college students. Students
would be looking at spending around $3788 for the kind of lab equipment used at
DeVry. By creating an inexpensive and portable oscilloscope, function generator, and
power supply that fits in one box about the size of a brief case we ve addressed the
primary issues associated with this equipment. This project has many applications
and many future expansions and functions that can be added on. By having a
variable floating DC power supply, 7Hz 6 KHz function generator, and oscilloscope
with leads connecting to any circuit built, the comprehensive hands on learning tool
would be ideal for most DeVry students. Project Operation: There are three main
parts to this project: the power supply, function generator, and oscilloscope. There
are a few hardware and software requirements for these components. The power
supply will require two wall wart power supplies connected to two potentiometers to
control the variable voltage and display it on the LCD. Then it will connect to the
student s circuits. The function generator can be completed in two ways. One method
is to assemble it through hardware. This would have little involvement with the
68HC12, but would allow a more hands on approach. The other technique is to
generate it through software. This would allow it to be more portable, but creates
more use of the computer instead of circuits. The function
Death of a Salesman and American Beauty
Death of a Salesman is a play by Arthur Miller that follows the dying days of Willy
Loman. Willy is a salesman who is not very at selling whatever he is selling so he
takes the easy way out and goes to his neighbor, Charley, who has worked very
hard for his money. Willy thinks that Charley and his son Bernard are nerdy and
that they are not successful. Success to Willy is all about looks, which is why his
son Biff grew up with the idea that as long as you are well liked than you will be
successful. Willy faces the conscious battle between what he wants his sons to see
and what he wants to keep personal. He wants to set the example of success to his
sons by having a death of a salesmanwhere tons of people attend his funeral and

Willy is the same way with taking shortcuts for success. Willy would have to go to
Charley and borrow fifty dollars a week and pretend to [Linda] that it s his pay
(Miller). Willy is just as lazy as Lester when it comes to the working ethic. Willy
knows that he needs to make money for his family so he takes the easy way out to
make it seem like he is successful. Both characters believe that in order to be
successful one must project an image of success at all times (Mendes). Lester and
Willy both think that the way one looks on the outside will bring them success.
Lester tries to improve his body for Angela by working out. Willy tells Biff
indirectly not to study because if he have scholarships to three universities they re
gonna fluck him (Miller). Willy shows that he thinks that looks get you success and
not hard work. Lester and Willy only wanted to have happiness and success and what
they got was death.
The two men, Lester and Willy, are not the characters that should be matched up
even though they both try very hard to get their dreams there is more similarities
between Willy and Carolyn than Willy and Lester. Willy and Carolyn are both
characters who make their money by selling items. Carolyn sells houses and Willy
sells something. Carolyn thinks that her relationship with her family is perfect just
like how she runs the house. She fails to see that what they truly need is someone to

Communication And Electronic Communication
Technology has become very important, ...more than one thousand children between
the ages of 4 and 18 find out how technology was impacting their relationships and
their social and emotional lives (Catherine Steiner Adair EdD). Technology is
advancing rapidly every single day, in hopes to make our society adapt better to a
technology based future. Communicationis the biggest factor that plays into our
everyday jobs. Communicating verbally versus electronically both have the same
intentions. This is to speak clearly, and say what needs to be said, relying strongly
on reactions. Does this affect our society, when people rely more on electronic forms
of communication, when they know miscommunications can be cleared just as fast
verbally? The question stands for our society as a whole. If people rely vastly on
electronic communication more everyday, does this change the way people
communicate verbally? The answer is yes, electronic communication affects more
people, than verbal communication does. Humans are born to communicate, as
people they must have communication as a skill to fend for themselves in the world.
Technology affects more people due to social media, texting, emailing and more.
Almost every child when born, learns how to read, write and most importantly, talk.
They learn how to say the simple words, and eventually grow to having their first
conversation. This is a monumental step for the child who is learning. In the

Positive And Negative Effects Of Colonialism In Africa
Africa, although it is the mother of all the continents and is the origin of humankind,
is considered the most misunderstood continent that has gone through centuries of
strife and exploitation from other countries all over the world. Since the beginning of
slavery in Africa in the medieval times, many changes in Africahave occurred in a
social and economic standpoint in relations to other countries and within the native
land itself by causing colonialism, which is the process of taking control of another
area politically while also using their land. Colonialism has had a negative effect on
Africa both socially, politically, and economically and can be fixed with the help of
other countries. Africa in and of itself was the mighty continent before slaveryand
colonialism. Africa serves as the Mater Hominum and the Mater Continentium, or
the creator of the first humans and the mother continent. It is regarded in the book
African Foreign Policy and Diplomacy from Antiquity to the 21st Century, written
by Dr. Daniel Don Nanjira, that Africa is the first cradle of the humankind, which
makes it the only continent in the world to have the whole human species inhabit
the area for at least 5 million years running (Nanjira 7). Therefore, Africa is revered
as the first continent in existence for the world and is the oldest place of human life
which in turn illustrates the value and true importance of the land and people that
have for so long been disregarded and corrupted. Before the use of slavery and
colonialism, African had flourishing and prosperous civilizations that been first
established in the Nile River valley like the Kingdoms of Kerma in the ancient region
of Nubia. There are also many other empires that have been known all over Africa
such as the Aksumite, Mali, and Luba empires. These Kingdom s once prospered
before or during slavery and colonialism and had their own cultures and significant
contributions to civilization. The Kingdom of Kerma was established in the northern
part of Sudan in 2500 BC and ended in 1500 BC after the Egyptian invasion of the
country after they had already invaded neighboring lands and allianced states or
cities. It is one of the many Kingdoms found in the ancient
Bury St. Edmunds Research Paper
My favorite place I ve ever lived was Bury St. Edmunds, England. My family lived in
Bury our first year here before we moved to Mildenhall to be closer to the middle
school as the bus ride from Bury was 90 minutes each way. We still go to Bury often
for shopping, the cinema, special events, and visiting places we like.
One of my favorite things in Bury St. Edmunds is the Abbey Gardens. Our house
in Bury was just a short 15 minute walk from there. They are the ruins and grounds
of what used to be one of the most powerful abbeys in England. Today, the abbey
grounds have been turned into a public park and visitors are allowed to walk around
the ruins freely. The Abbey Gardens include a beautiful flower garden, children s play

Edmunds. There is a plaque among the ruins in the Abbey Gardens that reads, Near
this spot on the 20th of November A.D. 1214, Cardinal Langton and The Barons
swore at St. Edmund s altar that they would obtain from King John the ratification
of Magna Charta. Another interesting historical aspect of the Abbey Gardens is the
Norman gate. This gate, which was built in 1347, is considered the new gate
because it was built to replace the original, much older gate after the town s people
burned it down. There are also various plaques around the town that highlight the
town s history, such as the plaque on the Angel Hotel saying that Charles Dickens
once stayed there. The city is also home to the final resting place of Mary Tudor,
sister of King Henry VIII and Queen of France. Bury also has many fun aspects of
British culture, such as the annual Christmas tree lighting in the town center and
pantomimes in the town s Theatre Royal around Christmastime. My family goes to
the Christmas pantomime, a fun and silly British play based on a fairytale, in Bury
every year. Each year they do a different pantomime and include aspects of the local
area and popular things from that year into the
Deterrence And Its Effect On Society
Deterrence

Justice. Deterrence starts in childhood. A parent punishes a child for doing something
forbidden and the child learns that doing this thing will have bad consequences. When
one person or persons attempt to sway the decision of another with the menace of
punishment more threatening than the gains, this is deterrence (Coleman, 2002).
Deterrence is defined as the punishment of socially undesirable behavior as a means
of future prevention (Coleman, 2002). The driving force behind deterrence is the
fear of punishment. Deterrence is part of the Classical theory (South University
Online, 2014). Classical theory states that criminals have free will and make a
deliberate decision to commit a crime. Classical theory has been around since
ancient times. Society has always had rules and punishments. The concept behind
classical theory is that persons will avoid criminal behavior because of the
negative consequences (What, 2014). The role that the family plays is that the
family teaches the children how to behave in society and what will happen if they
deviate from correct and proper behavior. Deterrence causes an individual to decide
whether the gains from the inappropriate behavior outweigh the losses. For
example, a bank robber needs to decide whether the gain, thousands of dollars,
outweighs the loss, years in prison. Deterrence wins if the robber decides not to rob
the bank because for fear of
Persuasive Essay On Save Bees
Save the Bees
The presence of a bee generally scares people. So they swat at it, which makes the
bee angry and defensive, which causes the bee to sting. Once the bee stings
someone, it dies. Most people might think their death is a good thing.
Unfortunately, various species of bees have been added to the endangered species
list (Kennedy). Bees pollinate about 70% of the crops used by 90% of the world
(What Would Happen) and as of February 2017, 10 million bees have died since
2010 ( Bennett). Bees need to be saved to ensure the Earth s survival, along with our
own.
There are many things believed to be the cause of bee endangerment. Of the survey
conducted, 18% believe the cause is from chemicals used on plants such as
pesticides; 25% believe it is because people do not like bees and kill them; 13%
believe it is from habitat destruction; 25 % believe it is from natural causes.
Overall, the general population is correct with regard to why bees have become
endangered. Lauren Bennett says the main cause of the rapid decline in bee
populations is from natural causes such as global warming and colony collapse
disorder, which is when bees abandon their hive and causes the hive to die as well.
Marla Spivak, says it is from parasites. Henry Samuel says it is from neonicotinoids,
which is a pesticide that is similar to nicotine.
The effects of their endangerment, and possible extinction, could potentially lead to
our populations decreasing at alarming rates. The Earth would lose
Negative Effects Of The Alien And Sedition Act
In 1798, President John Adams passed the Alien and Sedition Acts containing three
parts: the Alien Act, the Sedition Act, and the Naturalization Act. The Alien Act
allowed the President to deport any immigrant he found dangerous to the nation, the
Sedition Act made it a crime to criticize the government, and the Naturalization Act
lengthened the citizenship process. All of these acts were repealed by 1802 due to
all of their negative impacts. The Alien and Sedition Actsadversely impacted the
nation through the deprivation of human rights, which ultimately led to societal
rebellion and controversy. The Alien and Sedition Acts took away the rights declared
in the first amendment: freedom of speechand freedom of press. In addition, these acts
violated the rights of all immigrants during the time. Lastly, even... Show more

When the first amendment was ratified, citizens were promised the freedom of
speech, allowing all humans to give their opinion about the government without
punishment. The Alien and Sedition Acts, however, prohibits anybody to speak
negatively about the government. Berns, an American constitutional law and political
philosophy professor states, The Bill of Rights, with its cherished guarantee of free
speech and press... According to the traditional view, the infamous Alien and Sedition
Laws...would have been declared unconstitutional had they ever come before the
Supreme Court (Berns 110). The Bill of Rights ensures that citizens can speak freely
and if the Alien and Sedition Acts hinder these rights, the Supreme Court would then
deem these act unconstitutional. The Alien and Sedition Acts unjustly deprived
citizens from their constitutional right of freedom of speech, leading to the anger of
citizens that, eventually, resulted in rebellion. The Alien and Sedition negatively
influenced the nation because it took away the rights thatthe Founding Fathers
created and ratified in 1791. When the Alien and

Celebrity Advertising
Celebrity Endorsement
1. Introduction
In the past two or three decades celebrity advertising/endorsement has become
common practice amongst brands that wish to create and maintain attention, as well
as increase product or brand recall rates (Erdogan, 1999). However, the juxtaposition
of brands and organisations with admirable figures that possess qualities such as
likeability, attractiveness, trustworthiness and credibility is not a new phenomenon
(Erdogan, 1999). It is believed that an eighteenth century potter named Josia
Wedgewood was the pioneer of using celebrities to his advantage when Queen
Charlotte began using his products, after which he began referring to himself as
potter to Her Majesty (Seno amp; Lukas, 2007). Since ... Show more content on

A celebrity can either be an athlete, an actor/actress, a business person, a model, an
entertainer, or a pop star (Hsu amp; McDonald, 2002). They can appear in public
through/by: 1) their professional duties e.g. Tiger Woodsplaying golf in front of an
audience, 2) attending special events e.g. award shows and movie premiers, 3) the
media (news, fashion magazines and tabloids), or 4) the endorsement of products and
services (Schlecht, 2003). Even fictional characters such as Ronald McDonald and
Disney characters are considered to be celebrities because by definition, they also
receive a significant amount of attention and are easily recognisable (Khatri, 2006).
Through his/her line of work and the perceptions of people, a celebrity acquires
specific meanings that people associate with them and make them easily
distinguishable through their lifestyles, status and class, for example: Pierce
Brosnan (the former James Bond) is associated with class, sophistication,
masculinity and represents the upper social class (McKracken, 1989). In contrast,
another example would be Jamie Oliver (a European celebrity chef) who is
perceived as being free spirited, friendly, kind and likeable due to the nature of his
show, Oliver s Twist, being informal, easy going and relaxed (Byrne, Whitehead,
amp; Breen, 2003). These associations and perceptions

Pros And Cons Of DNA Vaccines
DNA Vaccines: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
In a world where everyone wants to be superior, humans are lacking in a specific
way. We, as humans, our DNA was not set up for us to be the top dog. Humans
DNA was made for us to be weak to some things. Yet, scientist are trying to change
that. Many have come up with the thought of DNA vaccines that help our bodies
become that superior organism that we all hope to be. Those scientist have used
animals in preliminary trials since the vaccines are still in the early stages of
development. DNA vaccines have emerged just recently out of the minds of
scientists. In the past couple years, they have tried to use rodents, or other small
animals and insects. DNA vaccines are playing a crucial role in science because they
are helping animals avoid diseases, make their DNA more superior than it was before
and lastly, and makes their immune system stronger. DNA immunization is a novel
technique used to efficiently stimulate humoral and cellular immune responses to
protein antigens.(Khan) The main purpose of DNA Vaccines is to put them inside a

Some ways include a regular injection with a needle, like a shot, Electroporation, and
a gene gun. The Gene Gun is also called Particle Acceleration or Microprojectile
Bombardment. The gun is used by shooting DNA into a plant cell or an animal
cell.(Plant and Soil Science eLibrary) This method is used in plants to protect
them as well. Electroporation is the application of an electric current to a living
surface ,as the skin or a cell membrane, in order to open pores or channels through
which something as a drug or DNA may pass. (Jaquith) The process of
electroporation is done with a tool that creates that creates an electromagnetic field in
a cell suspension, called an electroporator. The cell suspension is pipetted into a
glass, which has two aluminum electrodes on its sides.
Analysis Of Daniel Kahneman s Thinking Fast And Slow
Essay
In a paper published in 2011 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of
Sciences, researchers tested the common caricature of legal realism that justice is
what the judge ate for breakfast . They studied eight parole judges in Israel over 50
days in a 10 month period, who spent their entire days reviewing applications for
parole. What they found was shocking, that the percentage of favorable rulings
dropped gradually to nearly zero within each decision session and returned abruptly
to around 65% after a break. This is illustrated in the diagram below, where dotted
lines indicate food breaks. This was after accounting for different variables and
checking for alternative explanations.
This goes to show that the human mind is limited. Even moral decisions made by
highly educated individuals cannot escape the curse of mental fatigue as shown by
the Israelian judge study. The human rationality is also often plagued by hindsight
bias, the anchoring effect, the bandwagon effect, negativity bias, amidst a whole list
of cognitive biases, best illustrated in Daniel Kahneman s Thinking Fast Slow.
If we could design a machine that can make decisions without the fallibility of human
rationality, would it then be a better idea to let the machines make decisions on our
behalf, and save us from the mistakes of our minds?
My answer is that we should not allow machines to make moral decisions on our
behalf. Humans rationality might not be perfect, but we are not irrational and
The Physics Of Atomic Structure
Lesson 1
1.
Increasing current funding for atomic structure would be a fantastic idea which could
lead to discoveries beyond our imagination. For instance, in the quantum mechanical
model, the fact that it is unable to tell the exact location and speed of the electron and
cannot describe the electron as a particle orbiting a fixed path around the nucleus
provides evidential support that funding must be placed into this to further our
knowledge. This research could potentially result in terminating the use of probability
mathematical equations and replacing them with facts. By just looking at the many
revised versions of the atomic structure, we are able to see that there is potential in
knowing more which could lead to even more ... Show more content on

Many wait weeks or even months to receive an MRI, thus, making it very difficult to
believe that funding needs to go to more research rather than providing more MRI
machines to be used.

There is a difference in energy between the two lines because the electrons move
from higher to lower orbitals. The line within the visible spectrum is an electron that
is moving from a 5th orbital to a 2nd and the line within the Ultraviolet area is an
electron moving from a 6th orbital to a 2nd, thus meaning that the line within the
visible spectrum gives off less energy when releasing light whereas the ultraviolet
spectrum gives off more energy.

b)After reviewing the diagram, you can conclude that the Zr4+ ion exists because in
order for the Zr atom to become stable, it gets rid of 4 electrons from the 4d and 5s

c)The Zr4+ ion is more stable because it outer shell (valance shell) is complete
following the octet rule. When this occurs, the atom is less likely to react because it
is most stable. Comparing it to the Zr atom, the Zr atom does not have a filled

The Seven Levels Of Use Of Force In Policing
There have been seven levels of use of force that have been identified in policing.
The first level is mere presence, which is believed that just the presence of an
officer can deter criminal behavior. The second level of force is verbalization,
officers are taught to speak in a persuasive manner and if that does not work
officers are then forced to move to a more forcible option. Level three is command
voice; this voice is more stern then their regular speaking voice and tends to be
more demanding. If verbal forced does not work then the use of force becomes
more of a physical matter. Level four is the firm grips, which is a physical grip on
the body that is not intended to cause pain, specifically in order to direct the suspect
where to go.
Taking a Look at the Missouri Compromise
Missouri Compromise
Most white Americans of the 1800 s agreed that the US push western was hard and
crucial to good health of this nation. But the big question was at what cost it should
be. When President Thomas Jefferson made the Louisiana Purchase from the French
he was very happy with the thought of gaining the mighty Mississippi river and the
port in New Orleans for America interest but if he could only see the can of worms it
would open for the newly forming United States.
Like many modern day purchase there is always some gray areas that get over
looked from time to time. For President Jefferson and Congress it was should any
states that got carved out of this area to be admitted to the Union as a slave state or
a free state. The Louisiana Purchase had been bought and accepted as a slave
territory in 1812, but no other territory had petitioned for statehood until Missouri did
in 1818.
The incorporation of new eastern states into the United States made slavery a very
slippery slope for national politics. In 1818 there were an even amount of states,
eleven free and eleven slave states. In 1818 the state of Missouri which was a large
slaveholding state petition for statehood to the Union due to its ever growing
population. The northern states were in large opposition to this act for fear that the
larger slave holding southern states would have too much power in the Senate and
House of Representatives. The issue was that the constitution allowed states to count

Jane Addams and the Successful Hull House Essay
Jane Addams and her colleague, Ellen Gates Starr, founded the most successful
settlement house in the United States otherwise known as the Hull House (
Settlement 1). It was located in a city overrun by poverty, filth and gangsters, and it
could not have come at a better time (Lundblad 663). The main purpose of settlement
houses was to ease the transition into the American culture and labor force, and The
Hull House offered its residents an opportunity to help the community, was a safe
haven for the city, and led the way through social reform for women and children.
Laura Jane Addams was born in Cedarville, Illinois on September 6, 1860. Addams

At first, Addams and Starr were only offering readings and painting slides, but the
Hull House took a turn when they realized the need for a safe child environment. A
kindergarten was added to the house with 24 enrolled children and 70 on the
waiting list, and a day nursery followed soon after. But the Hull House was not
only for mothers and children. Starr offered sewing and cooking lessons for girls,
while Addams ran a boy s club. Lectures and classes on a wide range of subjects
including English, citizenship and art were offered for free by social reformers,
students and university teachers like Susan B. Anthony and Frank Lloyd Wright (
Hull House 1).Soon after, Addams and Starr were joined by Julia Lathrop, a
college friend and lawyer, and Florence Kelley, a member of the Socialist Labor
Party. It was because of Kelley that the Hull House became a center for social
reform. She, along with Alzina Stevens and Mary Kenney, spear headed the research
of the sweating trade in Chicago which lead to the passing of the Illinois Factory Act
of 1893. As a result, Kelley, Stevens and Kenney were recruited by Senator John
Altgeld as factory inspectors. Other working class women interested in social
reform also educated the middle class of the Hull House ( Hull House 1). By 1907,
the Hull House had expanded to include 12 additional buildings, a gymnasium, a

History Of The Assembly Line
Because of the high rate at which an assembly line can produce goods, it helps the
companies with them gain more control over the economy over the nation and drive
out businesses that cannot afford an assembly line. Before the assembly line was
introduced, each Model T cost about $850, but after the assembly line, it cost less than
$300 (6 9). Henry Fordhad always envisioned a car that could be bought by the
average family (9 12). He wanted to become rich and knew that aiming to have every
American as a potential consumer was the best way to do so (11). When his prices
fell by that much, it opened the market to many more people, so the demand for a
lower price car went up, and Ford was able to sell over 850,000 Model T cars in under
Avoid Payday Loans
Are you aware of how much repaying a payday loan costs? Well, if you pay on
time, it s only the borrowing charges. Though payday loans present some benefits
especially when you need fast cash, these loans have many drawbacks as well.
The application process for advance loans is easy and has low approval
requirements, which is an advantage. On the flipside, these loans are quite expensive.

It is easy to apply for advance loans giving you less time to think of available
alternatives. They also have no right of recession, meaning that if you cannot change

Many payday loan lenders want to access your bank account.
If you cannot repay your loan and you owe them a lot of money, some lenders will

How to avoid payday loans
Budget your funds. The easiest way to avoid advance loans is to plan your cash
accordingly. Tighten the budget until your cash flow every month is steady.
Budgeting should be your first line of defense.
Always save cash for an emergency. Open a saving account for emergencies. Saving
money will help you when the urgent need for cash arise and offer an alternative to

Request your bank for a small loan. Banks are more than willing to give you a loan if
you have been their customer for a specified period.
Ask a friend to lend you a loan. You can get a person to person loan from individuals
who are willing to give you cash for a small interest rate.
Use credit cards. A credit cardhas a low interest rate compared to a payday loan,
making it easier and quicker to pay off the loan than when you apply for an advance
State Mission of the National Guard Essay
Along with deployments over seas the National Guard has state mission. These
state missions comprise of multiple parts. Part one of the mission is to respond to
the natural disasters of their state and country. Most everyone has heard of the
National Guard going out and battling fires, helping general public deal with all
aspects of the floods, tornadoes and civil unrest. In these situations the governor of
the state, territories or district, places his province in a state of emergency. This
allows him to control the National Guard until the crisis is exerted and in which case

Sophie Germain s Contribution To The Middle Age Of Paris
Sophie Germain was born April 1st, 1776 in Paris, France. Sophie s family was
rich and counted as upper Classmen. Sophie was the middle child out of 2 others,
Marie Madeline Germain and Angelique Ambroise Germain. She was brought into
the world around times when it was frowned upon for women to be educated, not
to mention that it was also a revolution year too. Sophie spent most of her time in
the house reading in her Father s collection of books. Their eldest and youngest
daughters, Marie Madeleine and Angelique Ambroise, were destined for marriage
with professional men. However, when the fall of the Bastille in 1789 drove the
Germains sensitive middle daughter into hiding in the family library, Marie
Sophie s life path diverged from them all. From the ages of 13 to 18 Sophie, as she
was called to minimize confusion with the other Maries in her immediate family,
absorbed herself in the study of pure mathematics. One day she came across a book
about a deceased Mathematician by the name of Archimedes. Sophie was so
engaged by his work that she looked more into it as it interested her a lot. Sophie
died on June 27th, 1831 in birthplace of Paris, France. She wanted to find out more,
what did Archimedes try to finish? At a young age, Sophie s parents did not agree
with her studying mathematics because it was not allowed for women to study a lot,
it was too dangerous according to the law. Plus, there was no school because of the
Revolution War. That law did not stop Sophie
Why The Democratic Party Is An Important Part Of
America...
Political Essay
Government has been a paramount piece of the United States s development after
July 4, 1776. The role of government has been pivotal to the process of how America
operates today. Government is an important part of America s society because it
protects individual rights of people. Government is a forever changing entity because
it is a necessity to satisfy the people s demands. As a political party, Democrats and
Republicans have many views on different topics in America. Although the
Democrats and Republicans may have different stances on modern issues in America,
many of these politicians seem to have the same attitude toward changing policies on
these issues/government. I believe that the democratic party is more appropriate party
to represent the United States because of their philosophy. The traditional values of
America needs to be altered and the democratic party represents the change that
America needs. The democratic party best represents an ever changing society by
exemplifying the desires of the citizens as is apparent in their policies in regards to
abortion, gun control, and same sex marriage.
To begin with, the Democratic Party is superior in regards to abortion because this
party represents citizens more than republicans. In the Democratic standpoint, we
believe that it s a woman s choice if she wants to keep her child. It shouldn t be up
to politicians or the government whether someone keeps a child or not because this

Paul Reveres Ride Essay
Paul Reveres Ride Paul Revere s Ride is a collection of historical accounts centering
around Paul Revere s midnight ride to warn the countryside of the battles that
occurred. The novel is made up of narrative accounts that tell the whole story of the
midnight ride. David Hackett Fischer goes to great lengths to cover every possible
angle in telling the story. Fischer illuminates the figure of PaulRevere, a man far more
complex than a simple artisan and messenger(3). By adding different perspectives he
allows the reader to see not only the American idealistic point of view, but we get a
chance to hear British accountsof these particular events. In this way Hackett Fischer

These heavy red coats were required and any straying from this strict dress code
was to be kept immaculate on pain of a flogging (119). The author suggests, The
uniform of the British soldier in 1775 might have been designed by some demonic
tailor who had sworn sartorial vengeance upon the human frame (118).
The military uniforms of the British also radiated a uniquely British quality. An air of
superiority was apparent in the dress of the British. The red coats were elaborately
embellished with lace, wings, buttons, loops, knots and incongruous heart shaped
badges on the coattail (121). This illustrates the gentility and superiority that the
British felt was inherant in them. Instead of wearing the crudely put together
uniforms of the various militias, the British attempted to exude an air of confidence
that was repugnant to the Americans.
Hackett Fischer goes to great lengths to establish this feeling of superiority that was
prevelant among the British soldiers. He includes quotes throughout the novel in
which the British commanders condemn the crudely organized millitias. One British
observer wrote It is a curious masquerade scene to see grave sober citizens, barbers
and tailors who never looked fierce before, strutting about in their Sunday wigs with
muskets on their shoulders...if ever you saw a goose assume an air of consequence,
you may catch some faint

Normandy s invasion in 1066 resulted in the battle of Hastings, during which the

This changed when Elizabeth I appointed her cousin George Carey governor of the

writing pamphlets and memoranda on its dence. Renowned for his hospitality at

had fallen into decay, to provide accommodation worthy of his status. The hall

the next invasion scare of 1596 7, however, he persuaded the queen and the local

took the form of a low, roughly rectangular rampart nearly a mile long, with five
bastions. These defences were completed in 1602, but were never used in action. In
March 1600 Carey fell ill and went to Bath. He resigned as

Throughout history, many countries have called for revolutions whose goals and
outcomes affected the government during its time, in order to enforce a change in the
current form of government. In 1911, a revolution was led by Sun Yat Sen in China
between the imperial government or the Qing and the nationalists. China s revolutions
eventual outcome led to a conflict between the communists and the nationalists in
China whose goals contrasted each other significantly. During World War I, a
revolution in Russia occurred, led by Vladimir Lenin in 1917. The revolution in
Russia affected the proletariat, the Bourgeoisie, and the corrupted leadership of the
Tsarist government as a whole. Although these distinct revolutions occurred in two
different countries, their outcomes are similar as they both show how communismand
the inequality of the workers and classes impacted the countries both economically
and politically.

Evaluating Nursing Codes
Why is a universally accepted set of codes for diagnoses and procedures/interventions
important?
An accurate and specific documentation of universally accepted set of codes are
important for the protection of healthcare providers as well as increased
reimbursement for services received. These codes are for the validation of which
services the patient received from their health care provider ( (Page, 2009). Having
the correct codes in place insures the provider with the information needed by the
health insurance carrier. Maintained by the AMA (American Medical Association),
this universal numeric assignment is also used for developing guidelines for
medical care review as well as data collection for medical education and research

ICD 9 and ICD 10 are the diagnoses codes. The health insurance needs the diagnoses
codes in order to authorize the procedure. The CPT codes are used to explain which
procedures the patient received from their physicians. These are usually used for
outpatient procedures. If the attending physician or referring physician changes
procedures at the time of service, that CPT code also has to be changed and verified
ASAP. Authorizations from the insurance company may need to be obtained before
that service is done. If these codes are not correct, when the claim is filed for
reimbursement, the insurance company may deny the coverage. The patient may be
responsible for the entire expense of their service. More often than not, the facility
ends up with the burden the costs. There are many times the patient has her
procedure done before the required authorization was obtained. Some insurances
would retro date the authorization, some would not. There are many times I would
have to work on the patient s account, verify the insurance as well as secure the
authorizations, if needed. This is all happening as the patient is waiting at the
registration desk, waiting for the go ahead . Sadly, there are those patients given

infuriates me because this does not need to

It is at this stage that frustrations and anger will occur as employees feel
uncomfortable and scared. Also this stage forces the organization to rethink its
behavior and values in order to adjust to the coming change. Two factors play a huge
role in the success of the change at this stage: communication and time. Paun (2014),
views time as necessary is order to people to not only understand the coming change,
but adapt to the change. Communication makes employees feel important throughout
the process. For the past ten years, ABS Corporation has been operating under a
holistic model with customers. This model did not allow the sales department to sell
the appropriate solution to the clients, nor did it allow the implementation
department to design a solution that best fit the clients. Although the productivity
was favorable, the quality provided to clients were not up to the industry s
standards. Also the firm did not properly maximize the provided resources as there
was no clear direction for selling and designing solutions. After further research, the
variable model will be introduced within the coming months. This model will
provide a more customize service to clients. In designing this product, the firm s
mission to provide the best level of service and products, was taken into
consideration. The variable model is made up of three packages: the silver,

Retinoblastoma Research Paper
Retinoblastoma is a cancer that develops in the retina. The retina is a thin layer of
nerve tissue in the back of the eye that senses light and sends signals to the brain to
interpret what you are looking at. Retinoblastoma can occur in one or both eyes, and
in some cases can spread to different parts of your body. Retinoblastoma can occur at
any age but about 200 to 300 children in the United States get diagnosed each year.
Retinoblastoma usually occurs in children younger than 5 years and is most common
in children younger than 2 years (National CancerInstitute). One symptom of
retinoblastoma is a white pupillary reflex. This is the most common early sign of
retinoblastoma. You can tell that is happening when you shine a light at the eye....

These cells continuously grow and multiply as healthy cells die. This causes a
mass cells to form a tumor. In most cases it not clear what causes the mutation, but
it is possible to inherit a mutation from a parent. It is possible for mutated genes to
be passed from parents to offspring s which can cause retinoblastoma in children.
Retinoblastoma is an autosomal dominant pattern, which means that if a parent has
one copy of the dominant trait then there is a greater risk that their offspring will
receive the mutated gene. If both parents are carriers have one of the mutated genes
then there is a twenty five percent chance that the offspring will have both copies of
the mutated gene. Just because someone has both mutated genes doesn t mean that
that person will have retinoblastoma, it just means there is a greater risk of it
occurring. If a child has the inherited form of the gene, they typically develop
retinoblastoma earlier, and tends to occur in both eyes rather than in one eye. There
are some complications that can occur when you treating people with
retinoblastoma. When you are treated for retinoblastoma there is a risk that the
cancer can return to the treated eye or around it. Due to this, the doctor will
schedule follow up appointments to check for the cancer reappearing. In most cases,
this will likely involve eye exams every few months for the first few years
Blue Binder Creative Writing
It was ten thirty at night. I was writing this letter for probably the tenth time, when
my bedroom door opened. Startled, I quickly closed my blue binder. There stood
one of my mothers, reminding me that it was time for me to get ready for bed. I
took deep breaths to attempt to calm down, brushed my teeth, and said goodnight.
Then went back to my bedroom, back to my blue binder. I tried to keep my
handwriting legible as I wrote these words to my moms, these words that I couldn t
say out loud to anyone. These words that scared the hell out of me.
I wrote the letter as if I were introducing a new person to them; in a sense, I was. It
had been about two weeks since I had gotten my hair cut, showing the hairdresser a
picture of a boy to use as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, I was unable to tell them what one of my moms said because she was yet
to say anything. I knew she had to process what I shared, but she couldn t say
anything? I was terrified to tell her this and then she doesn t even acknowledge that I
did it.
Well, when she got home from work that day she said something. I don t remember
it all, but I do know that she said, for the first time of many, this is a long journey,
and you re still a hormonal teenager. She stressed to me to be open to other feelings,
and not to think that this was the end all be all.
Here I am, a year and a half later. All of this seems so surreal to me, that this is my
story, and I m not telling someone else s. In writing this, I am almost reliving the
fear that I had to tell my parents this vital part of my being. My parents realize this is
something that isn t changing, but even if it was, it wouldn t matter because they
love me no matter what.
Now, my parents, along with everyone else in my life, refer to me by my name, and
my pronouns. It s amazing to look back at myself a year and a half ago and see how
much has changed, how much better it has gotten. It s even more amazing to think
about how much longer my journey will
The Environmental Sciences
We have reached a point within our history where we have been more connected than
ever. For the most part, we are able to reach out to the eclectic mix of cultures that
composes our global society, and interact with others in real time. The various
perspectives we are able to contrive from these cultures allow us to understand and
construct new ideologies within various disciplines, and some of the connections can
be made are constructed from creativity of our imaginations and perspectives on
various issues. The interactions amongst the collective forces that constructs
interdisciplinarity enable us, from an ecological framework, to find inspiration from
the abstract into the familiarities of the environmental sciences and studies. Coming...

The classical classifications of Teddy Roosevelt environmentalism no longer applies
to our given circumstances. Though he helped create and solidify the existence of
national parks, the nature that is most familiar to us is also the most overlooked, and
these natural entities that are ignored are often found in the urban landscape (Cronon
1996). Socially we have constructed the idea that wilderness is out there and far away
when it is actually within everything we interact with on a daily basis (Cronon 1996).
The environmental themes touched upon in our class have some degree of
resignation of dissociation, but the field of interdiciplinarity enables us to recognize
that these dissociations in one way or another construct and support various themes
within restoration, invasive species, and novel ecosystems. Deconstructing these
themes enables us to link various connections that would support and deepen our
understanding of the successes and follies associated with these themes. More often
than not we are required to think outside the quadrilateral prisms and conjoin a
collective thought in the thread of a Mobius strip. Since its birth, Restoration has
made an attempt to make progress by rehabilitating degraded lands, but its name hasn
t necessarily assisted the true understanding of its practice. In
Business Problem Proposal Mba 510
Running head: BUSINESS PROBLEM PROPOSAL Business Problem Proposal
University of Phoenix Business Problem Proposal Wal Mart is a worldwide retail
company. In 2008, Wal Mart operated 971 discount stores, 2,447 super centers, 132
neighborhood markets, and 591 Sam s Clubs in the United States (MarketLine,
2008). The company is headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas and employs about
2.1 million people worldwide. The business problem to be illustrated is the high
employee turnover that Wal Mart experiences. A look into why employee retention
is so high and the associated costs of this high turnover will be explored. Illustrations

Coefficient of correlation measures the strength of linear relationships between two
variables. The two variables must have an interval scale of measurement.
Relationships of 1.00 and +1.00 have strong respective positive or negative
correlations. A relationship of zero identifies a weak relationship between the two
variables being analyzed. Primary and Secondary Data Sources The retention of
Wal Mart employees has been a problem. A quantitative correlational study to access
job pay satisfaction, turnover intentions, and leadership styles will be discussed. The
primary data consisted of questionnaire surveys. If required, informal interviews can
be included. The primary data research was to determine whether satisfaction with
supervisor or overall job pay satisfaction is more significantly related to turnover
intentions. The primary data was coded for a quick analysis and was verifiable by re
questioning. Secondary data was extracted from published statistics such as census,
housing and social security data. Other secondary data was retrieved from similar
industry models, internal databases, and library databases. The secondary data
research was to recommend leadership styles associated with job satisfaction as a
means to increase retention. Data was collected from a sample of employees using on
line and paper and pencil questionnaires. The survey incorporated demographic items
and instruments that measured perceived transformational, transactional,
Girl Model Documentary
Images in the media today project an unrealistic and even dangerous standard of
feminine beauty that can have a powerful influence on the way women and young
girls view themselves. From the perspective of the mass media, thinness is idealized
and expected for women to be considered attractive. Images in advertisements,
television, and music usually portray the ideal woman as tall, white, and thin. In the
documentary, Girl Model, young Siberian girls look forward to leaving the lives of
poverty and are promised the glamorous lifeof a model. The documentary was filmed
in Tokyo, where girls from the Siberian countryside went to with promises of a
profitable career. This location is important because it is where all of the action is
takes places. This is where the modeling industries are and where the model strive
to go to. In the beginning of the documentary there is the introduction of the
filmmakers and on a former model scout, Ashley, who is a self aware, yet
delusional protagonist. The filmmakers sense she is enough of a narcissist to
cooperate with them in revealing the depth of her loneliness, and self absorption.
The beginning tends to focus on the modeling industries but the viewers aren t told
of the conflict. In the middle, there is rising action and the conflict is also set in
stone. The conflict in the film is what Ashley believes, and her experiences versus
what Ashley knows, and her fear of leaving what she knows. There are clips of video
diaries that are
Double Abc X Model And Suicide Risk Assessment
The Virgin Suicides relates the story of the Lisbon family and the multiple crises they
face, particularly acute suicidal risk of all five daughters. The family consists of the
father, Ronald, the mother, and five sisters, Cecilia, Lux, Bonnie, Mary, and Therese.
The family experiences both major and minor crisis events throughout the film,
ultimately ending with all five daughters completing suicide. While there were
numerous individuals experiencing a crisis, the neighborhood boys, the entire Lisbon
family, and several other minor characters, this review will focus specifically on
crisis incidents that surround the mother and two daughters, Cecilia and Lux. This
analysis will utilize the Double ABC X model and suicide risk assessment.
Cecilia
Cecilia is the youngest of the Lisbon daughters, being only thirteen. She is slight,
thin and plain. She is quirky, as evident by her wearing the same wedding style
dress throughout her entire appearance in the film, as well as precocious and
introverted. She is an environmentalist, as evident by her reaction to the condemning
of the tree in her front yard, her grief about the fact that a frog was added to the
endangered species list, and her overall fascination with nature discussed in her diary.
Cecilia appears alienated from her family, perhaps misunderstood because of her
drastically different personality. In regards to Cecilia s initial crisis that involves her
suicide attempt, by means of exsanguination through wrist

By utilizing their history, Mercedes set themselves apart from other automobile makers as always remaining the first. Continuing forward with their first theme, on their website they also mention how Bertha Benz, Carl s wife, was the first female driver in history as
  • 3. The Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne John Graves Professor Connie Caskey English 251: American Literature I 8 February 2016 The Scarlet Letter was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne in 1850 which is based on the time frame of the Puritans, a religious group who arrived in Massachusetts in the 1630 s. The Puritans were in a religious period that was known for the strict social norms in which lead to the intolerance of different lifestyles. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses the puritan s strict lifestyles to relate to the universal issues among us. The time frame of the puritans resulted in Hawthorne eventually thinking that the puritans lifestyle as too extreme. Transcendentalism was a philosophical way of thinking for oneself, and not letting the belief of society alter the personal opinion. Transcendentalism correlates with The Scarlet Letter and its characters as they battle society s set values of what is socially right or wrong. Adultery and which craft are just two of the topics that would not be exceptional to the puritans. Hawthorne came to realization that everyone is human and as humans we make mistakes, we should not punish each mistake to the extreme. Using the original work of Nathaniel Hawthorne and the literary criticism of three critics, I analyze the different interpretations of the scarlet letter in terms of individualism, conformity, and homoerotic dynamics. While researching the scarlet letter I found many different perceptions of the novel, The Scarlet letter is a story that changes interpretation
  • 4. The Future Of Renewable Energy Renewable energy constitutes the energy coming from sources that do not get depleted with time. These sources are not typically exhausted and are environmental friendly. Although this paper will focuses more on hydropower, the types of renewable energy sources available in Canada include solar power, wind power, geothermal energy, ocean energy, and bio energy. Renewable energy in Canada has as well had its environmental impacts. The outcomes pose various impacts to the environment either positively or negatively and end up affecting people s lives. Canada has had greater embrace on renewable energy, particularly hydropower and nuclear. In 2011, it was the sixth largest wind power producer worldwide. In Ontario, there are numerous photovoltaic plants of power. A tidal plant is located in Annapolis found in Nova Scotia, and it utilizes the tides generated by the Fundy Bay. Canada has over twenty hydro power stations majority of these located in Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec and Labrador (Islam, Fartaj Ting, 2013). A brief look at the sources of Renewable energy in Canada It is quite notable that Canada has the large reserves of renewable energy. In the year 2012, it produced three times more renewable energy than the whole of Germany (McKirdy Solar Energy Society of Canada, 2011). Sources of renewable energy include: Tidal energy: Canada has North America s only tidal plant. This is located in Annapolis Royal in Nova Scotia, Canada. The highest tides in

Because of this necessary process, forms of sanitary protection have been concocted to meet the needs of women to care for themselves during their menstrual bleeding period. There have been numerous approaches used by women from all over the world and over the years. Of the numerous materials, used to collect and dispose of menstrual waste, two have remained most popular, the pad and the tampon. While many might use, and be familiar with their use in their menstrual hygiene, not much is known about what is put in or on them and the regulations surrounding them. This paper hopes to shed a light on the history and safety regulations surrounding the popular menstrual hygiene products pads and tampons. This papers hopes to answer whether these products are safe. Some of the earliest records we have concerning menstrual hygiene solutions are those of ancient Egyptian women. Egyptian records, that date back to the 15th century B.C., reveal that women, often wealthy, used internal plugs made from soft papyrus or wool. Poorer women, who might not have been able to afford soft papyrus or wool were recorded to have used softened aquatic grasses (Farage 101). Their Greek counterparts, as written by Hippocrates, a famous ancient Greek physician, were said to have created internal plugs as well from lint wrapped around a small piece of wood. The ancient Romans, another civilized

This project has many applications and many future expansions and functions that can be added on. By having a variable floating DC power supply, 7Hz 6 KHz function generator, and oscilloscope with leads connecting to any circuit built, the comprehensive hands on learning tool would be ideal for most DeVry students. Project Operation: There are three main parts to this project: the power supply, function generator, and oscilloscope. There are a few hardware and software requirements for these components. The power supply will require two wall wart power supplies connected to two potentiometers to control the variable voltage and display it on the LCD. Then it will connect to the student s circuits. The function generator can be completed in two ways. One method is to assemble it through hardware. This would have little involvement with the 68HC12, but would allow a more hands on approach. The other technique is to generate it through software. This would allow it to be more portable, but creates more use of the computer instead of circuits. The function

  • 9. Communication And Electronic Communication Technology has become very important, ...more than one thousand children between the ages of 4 and 18 find out how technology was impacting their relationships and their social and emotional lives (Catherine Steiner Adair EdD). Technology is advancing rapidly every single day, in hopes to make our society adapt better to a technology based future. Communicationis the biggest factor that plays into our everyday jobs. Communicating verbally versus electronically both have the same intentions. This is to speak clearly, and say what needs to be said, relying strongly on reactions. Does this affect our society, when people rely more on electronic forms of communication, when they know miscommunications can be cleared just as fast verbally? The question stands for our society as a whole. If people rely vastly on electronic communication more everyday, does this change the way people communicate verbally? The answer is yes, electronic communication affects more people, than verbal communication does. Humans are born to communicate, as people they must have communication as a skill to fend for themselves in the world. Technology affects more people due to social media, texting, emailing and more. Almost every child when born, learns how to read, write and most importantly, talk. They learn how to say the simple words, and eventually grow to having their first conversation. This is a monumental step for the child who is learning. In the technology world as of right now, when

  • 11. Positive And Negative Effects Of Colonialism In Africa Africa, although it is the mother of all the continents and is the origin of humankind, is considered the most misunderstood continent that has gone through centuries of strife and exploitation from other countries all over the world. Since the beginning of slavery in Africa in the medieval times, many changes in Africahave occurred in a social and economic standpoint in relations to other countries and within the native land itself by causing colonialism, which is the process of taking control of another area politically while also using their land. Colonialism has had a negative effect on Africa both socially, politically, and economically and can be fixed with the help of other countries. Africa in and of itself was the mighty continent before slaveryand colonialism. Africa serves as the Mater Hominum and the Mater Continentium, or the creator of the first humans and the mother continent. It is regarded in the book African Foreign Policy and Diplomacy from Antiquity to the 21st Century, written by Dr. Daniel Don Nanjira, that Africa is the first cradle of the humankind, which makes it the only continent in the world to have the whole human species inhabit the area for at least 5 million years running (Nanjira 7). Therefore, Africa is revered as the first continent in existence for the world and is the oldest place of human life which in turn illustrates the value and true importance of the land and people that have for so long been disregarded and corrupted. Before the use of slavery and colonialism, African had flourishing and prosperous civilizations that been first established in the Nile River valley like the Kingdoms of Kerma in the ancient region of Nubia. There are also many other empires that have been known all over Africa such as the Aksumite, Mali, and Luba empires. These Kingdom s once prospered before or during slavery and colonialism and had their own cultures and significant contributions to civilization. The Kingdom of Kerma was established in the northern part of Sudan in 2500 BC and ended in 1500 BC after the Egyptian invasion of the country after they had already invaded neighboring lands and allianced states or cities. It is one of the many Kingdoms found in the ancient

Our house in Bury was just a short 15 minute walk from there. They are the ruins and grounds of what used to be one of the most powerful abbeys in England. • 13. Deterrence And Its Effect On Society Deterrence Joni Montoya South University Online Justice. Deterrence starts in childhood. A parent punishes a child for doing something forbidden and the child learns that doing this thing will have bad consequences. When one person or persons attempt to sway the decision of another with the menace of punishment more threatening than the gains, this is deterrence (Coleman, 2002). Deterrence is defined as the punishment of socially undesirable behavior as a means of future prevention (Coleman, 2002). The driving force behind deterrence is the fear of punishment. Deterrence is part of the Classical theory (South University Online, 2014). Classical theory states that criminals have free will and make a deliberate decision to commit a crime. Classical theory has been around since ancient times. Society has always had rules and punishments. The concept behind classical theory is that persons will avoid criminal behavior because of the negative consequences (What, 2014). The role that the family plays is that the family teaches the children how to behave in society and what will happen if they deviate from correct and proper behavior. Deterrence causes an individual to decide whether the gains from the inappropriate behavior outweigh the losses. For example, a bank robber needs to decide whether the gain, thousands of dollars, outweighs the loss, years in prison. Deterrence wins if the robber decides not to rob the bank because for fear of

Once the bee stings someone, it dies. Most people might think their death is a good thing. Unfortunately, various species of bees have been added to the endangered species list (Kennedy). Bees pollinate about 70% of the crops used by 90% of the world (What Would Happen) and as of February 2017, 10 million bees have died since 2010 ( Bennett). Bees need to be saved to ensure the Earth s survival, along with our own. There are many things believed to be the cause of bee endangerment. Of the survey conducted, 18% believe the cause is from chemicals used on plants such as pesticides; 25% believe it is because people do not like bees and kill them; 13% believe it is from habitat destruction; 25 % believe it is from natural causes. Overall, the general population is correct with regard to why bees have become endangered. Lauren Bennett says the main cause of the rapid decline in bee populations is from natural causes such as global warming and colony collapse disorder, which is when bees abandon their hive and causes the hive to die as well. Marla Spivak, says it is from parasites. Henry Samuel says it is from neonicotinoids, which is a pesticide that is similar to nicotine. The effects of their endangerment, and possible extinction, could potentially lead to our populations decreasing at alarming rates. The Earth would lose

Negative Effects Of The Alien And Sedition Act In 1798, President John Adams passed the Alien and Sedition Acts containing three parts: the Alien Act, the Sedition Act, and the Naturalization Act. The Alien Act allowed the President to deport any immigrant he found dangerous to the nation, the Sedition Act made it a crime to criticize the government, and the Naturalization Act lengthened the citizenship process. All of these acts were repealed by 1802 due to all of their negative impacts. The Alien and Sedition Actsadversely impacted the nation through the deprivation of human rights, which ultimately led to societal rebellion and controversy. However, the juxtaposition of brands and organisations with admirable figures that possess qualities such as likeability, attractiveness, trustworthiness and credibility is not a new phenomenon (Erdogan, 1999). Even fictional characters such as Ronald McDonald and Disney characters are considered to be celebrities because by definition, they also receive a significant amount of attention and are easily recognisable (Khatri, 2006). Through his/her line of work and the perceptions of people, a celebrity acquires specific meanings that people associate with them and make them easily distinguishable through their lifestyles, status and class, for example: Pierce Brosnan (the former James Bond) is associated with class, sophistication, masculinity and represents the upper social class (McKracken, 1989). In contrast, another example would be Jamie Oliver (a European celebrity chef) who is perceived as being free spirited, friendly, kind and likeable due to the nature of his show, Oliver s Twist, being informal, easy going and relaxed (Byrne, Whitehead, amp; Breen, 2003). • 20. Analysis Of Daniel Kahneman s Thinking Fast And Slow Essay In a paper published in 2011 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers tested the common caricature of legal realism that justice is what the judge ate for breakfast . They studied eight parole judges in Israel over 50 days in a 10 month period, who spent their entire days reviewing applications for parole. What they found was shocking, that the percentage of favorable rulings dropped gradually to nearly zero within each decision session and returned abruptly to around 65% after a break. This is illustrated in the diagram below, where dotted lines indicate food breaks. This was after accounting for different variables and checking for alternative explanations. This goes to show that the human mind is limited. Even moral decisions made by highly educated individuals cannot escape the curse of mental fatigue as shown by the Israelian judge study. The human rationality is also often plagued by hindsight bias, the anchoring effect, the bandwagon effect, negativity bias, amidst a whole list of cognitive biases, best illustrated in Daniel Kahneman s Thinking Fast Slow. If we could design a machine that can make decisions without the fallibility of human rationality, would it then be a better idea to let the machines make decisions on our behalf, and save us from the mistakes of our minds? My answer is that we should not allow machines to make moral decisions on our behalf. Humans rationality might not be perfect, but we are not irrational and

  • 23. The Seven Levels Of Use Of Force In Policing There have been seven levels of use of force that have been identified in policing. The first level is mere presence, which is believed that just the presence of an officer can deter criminal behavior. The second level of force is verbalization, officers are taught to speak in a persuasive manner and if that does not work officers are then forced to move to a more forcible option. Level three is command voice; this voice is more stern then their regular speaking voice and tends to be more demanding. If verbal forced does not work then the use of force becomes more of a physical matter. Level four is the firm grips, which is a physical grip on the body that is not intended to cause pain, specifically in order to direct the suspect where to go.

But the big question was at what cost it should be. When President Thomas Jefferson made the Louisiana Purchase from the French he was very happy with the thought of gaining the mighty Mississippi river and the port in New Orleans for America interest but if he could only see the can of worms it would open for the newly forming United States. The northern states were in large opposition to this act for fear that the larger slave holding southern states would have too much power in the Senate and House of Representatives. The role of government has been pivotal to the process of how America operates today. Government is an important part of America s society because it protects individual rights of people. Government is a forever changing entity because it is a necessity to satisfy the people s demands. As a political party, Democrats and Republicans have many views on different topics in America. Although the Democrats and Republicans may have different stances on modern issues in America, many of these politicians seem to have the same attitude toward changing policies on these issues/government. I believe that the democratic party is more appropriate party to represent the United States because of their philosophy. The traditional values of America needs to be altered and the democratic party represents the change that America needs. The democratic party best represents an ever changing society by exemplifying the desires of the citizens as is apparent in their policies in regards to abortion, gun control, and same sex marriage. To begin with, the Democratic Party is superior in regards to abortion because this party represents citizens more than republicans. In the Democratic standpoint, we believe that it s a woman s choice if she wants to keep her child. It shouldn t be up to politicians or the government whether someone keeps a child or not because this is a special

The military uniforms of the British also radiated a uniquely British quality. An air of superiority was apparent in the dress of the British. The red coats were elaborately embellished with lace, wings, buttons, loops, knots and incongruous heart shaped badges on the coattail (121). This illustrates the gentility and superiority that the British felt was inherant in them. • 44. Retinoblastoma Research Paper Retinoblastoma is a cancer that develops in the retina. The retina is a thin layer of nerve tissue in the back of the eye that senses light and sends signals to the brain to interpret what you are looking at. Retinoblastoma can occur in one or both eyes, and in some cases can spread to different parts of your body. Retinoblastoma can occur at any age but about 200 to 300 children in the United States get diagnosed each year. Retinoblastoma usually occurs in children younger than 5 years and is most common in children younger than 2 years (National CancerInstitute). One symptom of retinoblastoma is a white pupillary reflex. This is the most common early sign of retinoblastoma. You can tell that is happening when you shine a light at the eye.... In most cases it not clear what causes the mutation, but it is possible to inherit a mutation from a parent. It is possible for mutated genes to be passed from parents to offspring s which can cause retinoblastoma in children. Retinoblastoma is an autosomal dominant pattern, which means that if a parent has one copy of the dominant trait then there is a greater risk that their offspring will receive the mutated gene. If both parents are carriers have one of the mutated genes then there is a twenty five percent chance that the offspring will have both copies of the mutated gene. Just because someone has both mutated genes doesn t mean that that person will have retinoblastoma, it just means there is a greater risk of it occurring. If a child has the inherited form of the gene, they typically develop retinoblastoma earlier, and tends to occur in both eyes rather than in one eye. There are some complications that can occur when you treating people with retinoblastoma. When you are treated for retinoblastoma there is a risk that the cancer can return to the treated eye or around it. Due to this, the doctor will schedule follow up appointments to check for the cancer reappearing. In most cases, this will likely involve eye exams every few months for the first few years
  • 45. Blue Binder Creative Writing It was ten thirty at night. I was writing this letter for probably the tenth time, when my bedroom door opened. Startled, I quickly closed my blue binder. There stood one of my mothers, reminding me that it was time for me to get ready for bed. I took deep breaths to attempt to calm down, brushed my teeth, and said goodnight. Then went back to my bedroom, back to my blue binder. I tried to keep my handwriting legible as I wrote these words to my moms, these words that I couldn t say out loud to anyone. These words that scared the hell out of me. I wrote the letter as if I were introducing a new person to them; in a sense, I was. It had been about two weeks since I had gotten my hair cut, showing the hairdresser a picture of a boy to use as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, I was unable to tell them what one of my moms said because she was yet to say anything. I knew she had to process what I shared, but she couldn t say anything? I was terrified to tell her this and then she doesn t even acknowledge that I did it. Well, when she got home from work that day she said something. I don t remember it all, but I do know that she said, for the first time of many, this is a long journey, and you re still a hormonal teenager. She stressed to me to be open to other feelings, and not to think that this was the end all be all. Here I am, a year and a half later. All of this seems so surreal to me, that this is my story, and I m not telling someone else s. In writing this, I am almost reliving the fear that I had to tell my parents this vital part of my being. My parents realize this is something that isn t changing, but even if it was, it wouldn t matter because they love me no matter what. Now, my parents, along with everyone else in my life, refer to me by my name, and my pronouns. It s amazing to look back at myself a year and a half ago and see how much has changed, how much better it has gotten. It s even more amazing to think about how much longer my journey will
  • 46. The Environmental Sciences We have reached a point within our history where we have been more connected than ever. For the most part, we are able to reach out to the eclectic mix of cultures that composes our global society, and interact with others in real time. The various perspectives we are able to contrive from these cultures allow us to understand and construct new ideologies within various disciplines, and some of the connections can be made are constructed from creativity of our imaginations and perspectives on various issues. The interactions amongst the collective forces that constructs interdisciplinarity enable us, from an ecological framework, to find inspiration from the abstract into the familiarities of the environmental sciences and studies. Coming... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The classical classifications of Teddy Roosevelt environmentalism no longer applies to our given circumstances. Though he helped create and solidify the existence of national parks, the nature that is most familiar to us is also the most overlooked, and these natural entities that are ignored are often found in the urban landscape (Cronon 1996). Socially we have constructed the idea that wilderness is out there and far away when it is actually within everything we interact with on a daily basis (Cronon 1996). The environmental themes touched upon in our class have some degree of resignation of dissociation, but the field of interdiciplinarity enables us to recognize that these dissociations in one way or another construct and support various themes within restoration, invasive species, and novel ecosystems. Deconstructing these themes enables us to link various connections that would support and deepen our understanding of the successes and follies associated with these themes. More often than not we are required to think outside the quadrilateral prisms and conjoin a collective thought in the thread of a Mobius strip. Since its birth, Restoration has made an attempt to make progress by rehabilitating degraded lands, but its name hasn t necessarily assisted the true understanding of its practice. In

Coefficient of correlation measures the strength of linear relationships between two variables. The two variables must have an interval scale of measurement. Relationships of 1.00 and +1.00 have strong respective positive or negative correlations. A relationship of zero identifies a weak relationship between the two variables being analyzed. Primary and Secondary Data Sources The retention of Wal Mart employees has been a problem. A quantitative correlational study to access job pay satisfaction, turnover intentions, and leadership styles will be discussed. The primary data consisted of questionnaire surveys. If required, informal interviews can be included. The primary data research was to determine whether satisfaction with supervisor or overall job pay satisfaction is more significantly related to turnover intentions. The primary data was coded for a quick analysis and was verifiable by re questioning. Secondary data was extracted from published statistics such as census, housing and social security data. Other secondary data was retrieved from similar industry models, internal databases, and library databases. The secondary data research was to recommend leadership styles associated with job satisfaction as a means to increase retention. Girl Model Documentary Images in the media today project an unrealistic and even dangerous standard of feminine beauty that can have a powerful influence on the way women and young girls view themselves. From the perspective of the mass media, thinness is idealized and expected for women to be considered attractive. Images in advertisements, television, and music usually portray the ideal woman as tall, white, and thin. In the documentary, Girl Model, young Siberian girls look forward to leaving the lives of poverty and are promised the glamorous lifeof a model. The documentary was filmed in Tokyo, where girls from the Siberian countryside went to with promises of a profitable career. This location is important because it is where all of the action is takes places. This is where the modeling industries are and where the model strive to go to. In the beginning of the documentary there is the introduction of the filmmakers and on a former model scout, Ashley, who is a self aware, yet delusional protagonist. The filmmakers sense she is enough of a narcissist to cooperate with them in revealing the depth of her loneliness, and self absorption. The beginning tends to focus on the modeling industries but the viewers aren t told of the conflict. In the middle, there is rising action and the conflict is also set in stone. The conflict in the film is what Ashley believes, and her experiences versus what Ashley knows, and her fear of leaving what she knows. There are clips of video diaries that are
