Scenario Planning: Splash and Global Warmingmaverik
This document discusses the impacts of increased global temperatures and a thinning ozone layer on human health. It notes that at a temperature increase of 20 degrees Celsius, there would be no impact on health initially but the thinning ozone layer would cause a 90% increase in mortality due to higher ultraviolet radiation and skin cancer rates. Very high temperatures of 20 degrees above normal could also cause widespread health problems and 90% mortality from heat and harmful UV rays. The document recommends investing in research and development of alternative raw materials and more efficient manufacturing to mitigate global warming, as well as shifting to products that prevent and address problems caused by climate change.
Successfully Kickstarting Data Governance's Social Dynamics: Define, Collabor...Stijn (Stan) Christiaens
The document discusses data governance and outlines several key points:
1) Data governance is about bringing business and IT together to govern data as a key enterprise asset and ensure there is a common understanding of what data means.
2) Existing tools and approaches are insufficient for handling today's data complexity, and semantic technology can help by clarifying the meaning of data elements.
3) Effective data governance requires a combination of technology, organizational structure, methodology, and culture to define roles and processes for validating and reconciling data across stakeholders.
This document discusses knowledge sharing and the implementation of information and communication technology (ICT) in education at a university. It presents the theoretical framework used in the research, which includes Wenger's "Doughnut Model of Knowledge Management". It also outlines the mixed methods approach used, including surveys, social network analysis, interviews and focus groups. Key findings indicate that the development of a shared knowledge domain, teachers as central network players, and strong leadership are important for managing change. It concludes by recommending several steps for effective professional development of teachers in using ICT in education, including defining objectives, strategic planning, change agent support, and ongoing evaluation.
The document outlines Dr. Herman Schimmel's presentation at the 11th ELMAC/TELIC Conference on identifying, sharing, and building expertise and knowledge in the TELIC community. It discusses knowledge mapping and creating an online repository for sharing knowledge, skills, and experience across knowledge areas such as knowledge management, e-learning, and strategic communication. The presentation proposes collaboratively developing this repository to facilitate social interaction and knowledge sharing within the community.

The document summarizes observations from visiting various retail stores. Some key findings include:
1) Discount stores like Marshall's had dirty floors and broken fixtures while specialty stores were clean and well-maintained.
2) Most customers at clothing stores shopped with someone else for opinions.
3) Some surprises were that Semolina Bread sold deli food, not bread, and Francesca's salespeople ignored customers.
4) Small details like open doors, lighting, and cleanliness impacted the shopping experience more than the merchandise.
The document introduces the reader to the wonders of space, noting that humans have not discovered everything about it. It discusses how human life began on Earth and how technology has allowed humans to learn more about the universe, such as the relative sizes of planets and stars. The document suggests that continuing to learn about what is beyond Earth could help humanity discover if there is other life and prepare for possible threats. Some scientists now believe there may be parallel universes with alternate versions of Earth and people. The summary encourages going into space to discover more about the universe.

The document discusses the results of a study on the effects of a new drug on memory and cognitive function in older adults. The double-blind study involved giving either the new drug or a placebo to 100 volunteers aged 65-80 over a 6 month period. Testing showed those receiving the drug experienced statistically significant improvements in short-term memory retention and processing speed compared to the placebo group.
Case Review: Shangri-la Hotels and Resorts – Achieving Service Leadershipmaverik
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts implemented a strategic plan called Shangri-La 2000 to achieve service leadership. The plan had two phases and involved identifying core values, developing a corporate vision and business processes, and getting input from hotel GMs. It was rolled out across the company using a cascading communication approach and process improvement. However, implementation took longer than expected and some challenges included a lack of commitment from tenured employees resistant to change, and maintaining momentum with budget constraints. Lessons included considering employee feedback, championing short-term wins, and constantly communicating objectives for understanding.

In recent decades, the emphasis of the educational scientific debate has shifted to on-line learning experiences, highlighting their power and criticality. For example, on-line learning experiences in the workplace are often considered as a new way to promote innovation and organizational learning, decreasing the costs of the educational or training programmes. Blended education in schools, is considered a parallel teaching practice that can support all levels of learning too. In every day life people learn sharing information by and through the mediation of technological artefacts, social networks or smartphones. Any learning process is always a mediated experience (Engeström, Miettinen, Punamaki, 1999). However, what happens when learning is mediated by technologies?
