2. The following slides contain information about how to write up your ERA. You don’t need to take notes (unless you think you will need them) for any of the slides EXCEPT the DISCUSSION section. Detailed information about report writing is available on pages 317-318 of your text. This should be enough to guide you through the write up.

3. TITLE ABSTRACT (Approx 100 words) This is to be written LAST but put on the first page. The abstract should include a one or two sentence summary of: Aim Hypothesis Number and Type of Participants Outline of the procedure Main results Conclusion

INTRODUCTION (250 WORDS): Present the following information in paragraphs: Brief explanation of components of an attitude and how attitudes are formed Brief explanation of prejudice and how it leads to discrimination Explanation of a Likert scale Briefly outline a relevant previous study on discrimination and relate its findings. AIM: HYPOTHESIS:

METHOD: (100-200 WORDS) Use these three sub-headings: PARTICIPANTS: State the number of participants Give information about age and gender Give information on how they were selected for the study Give information on any ethical considerations addressed MATERIALS: List and describe the materials used Refer to the Appendix for attached items

6. PROCEDURE: Present a chronological account of the steps taken so the reader would be able to repeat the study Write in past tense, third person. RESULTS: (100-200 WORDS) Present the collated data in table form The table should be numbered and labelled Present a scatter diagram of the correlation Write an explanatory comment about the results and refer specifically to the table and scatter diagram. Do not refer to the hypothesis here.

7. DISCUSSION: (250-300 WORDS ) State whether the hypothesis was supported. Use the results to explain this. Consider these questions to help you discuss the results: Was a correlation evident? Were there any interesting or distinctive results? What did these results indicate about people’s attitudes? Was this similar or different from the results of previous research? Were there any extraneous variables in this experiment that may have affected the results? Explain their potential impact and how they could be controlled in future similar studies. State the conclusion. State whether these results could be generalised to a broader population.

8. REFERENCE LIST: Only the texts cited in the introduction and discussion may be listed in the reference list. See pages 318-320 of your text for reference list technique. APPENDICES: (ON SEPARATE PAGE) Include copies of the Likert scale and raw data tables in the appropriate order. Number and title each item.

9. All pages of the report should be A4 size. Attach any smaller items pasted on an A4 page. LABEL! REMEMBER: Detailed information on report writing is available on pages 317- 320 of your text.
