Creon Is The Tragic Hero Of Antigone
One might think Antigone is the tragic hero of her own story, but as the audience read in The
Burial at Thebes: A Version of Sophocles Antigone translated by Seamus Heaney, readers know that
she is not the tragic hero and learn the King is. The story starts after Polyneices and Eteocles
battled to the death. This Creonas next in line to take the crown. Creon buries Eteocles but leaves
Polyneices body to rot. Antigone wants to bury Polyneices, as a result, he goes the Underworld.
Based on Aristotle s definition, Creon is the tragic heroof Antigone because although he starts
from a position of greatness, his tragic flaws lead to a catastrophe; he realizes the error of his
ways, but it is too late to prevent the catastrophe; his downfall and suffering leave him humbled
and enlightened. First, based on Aristotle s definition, Creon is the tragic hero of Antigone
because although he starts from a position of greatness, his tragic flaw leads to Catastrophe.
Creon says And I, as next of kin to those dead and doomed,/ I m next in line./ The throne has
come to me (Heaney 15). This is the point where Creon says that he is king once again. That s
how guilt/ Affects some people./ They Simply break/ and everything comes out./ But the barefaced
ones./ The ones who defy you more when they re found out,/ They re worse again (Heaney 31). He
means that guilt results in truth and that people who defy him talk more when they are caught.
Creon knows that Antigone is the one who went

Texas County Government System
During the early days of the Texas government system, many districts were divided into counties
and cities. In those two entities, there are general purpose local governments and special purpose
governments, each with their own regions and responsibilities.
Because of the size of Texas, many rural areas rely on the local county government to conduct
political business. Texas has the largest number of counties compared to all the other states; 254 in
total. Before vehicles, many Texans had to travel to the capital to conduct state business. Therefore,
it was important to establish some form of local government system for the people who lived
further from the city to be able to have access to the government. Even today, many county courts

This can cause two different effects for the various positions within the government; it allows
normal citizens to contribute and possibly be rewarded with a job within the local government
(pluralism), or it allows unqualified people to attain jobs based on who they know or how much
they gave during the campaign (elitism).
The city government is like the county government in the respects that it has a municipal home rule
form of government to allow cities whose populations are over 5,000 to develop their own charter.
They also have extraterritorial jurisdiction and annexation forms of government. These last two
forms of government allow cities to control development and other aspects of things beyond their
city limits.
Many municipals (self governed cities) are divided into three separate types of governments:
Mayor Council, Commission, and Council Manager. The Council Manager form is generally used
in larger cities and consists of a council of five to fifteen members, elected by districts, and a
mayor who is elected by the council and is responsible for multiple city managers to implement the
various policies.
The Mayor Council form is of similar structure to the Council Manager form except

The Origins Of English Colonization Of The New World
The origins of American English date back to the beginnings of the seventeenth century and the
first successful colonization of the New World. Although the first English explorers led by Walter
Raleigh had landed on the coast some three decades before, the attempts to establish a settlement
failed due to unexpected conflicts with Native Americans. Jamestown, the first English colony
named after James I was established in 1607. It was but one of many settlements that promptly
started to fill the coast and adjacent islands. In 1620, a ship called the Mayflower landed in
Plymouth, Massachusetts. Its passengers were Puritans, also known as the Pilgrim Fathers , seeking
to set up a colony purified (therefore Puritans) from the Church of England

The On Art World And Class Structure
Throughout history, it has always been argued that economic power affect art. By voluntary
means, we produce, trade, buy and sell our products that would benefit us in various ways.
Economic power allows people to exploit their resources in a free market. It has the ability to
help others successfully reach prosperity. Some philosophers claim economic power has a huge
impact on art, whereas other philosophers express a different opinion. Davis and Freeland
believes economic power influences art, but Todd disagrees. 9.5 Theses on Art and Class
introduces a list of theories on art world and class structure. Davis claims class exists in the art
world because it is an important factor for art. He states, Since different classes have... Show more

Throughout the excerpt, Davis describe the differences between the ruling class, middle class and
working class. The ruling class is identified as a capitalist who has complete control over the
realm of visual arts. These superior individuals would mostly come from large corporations,
including auction houses and corporate collectors; art investors, private collectors, and patrons;
and trustees and administrators of large cultural institutions and universities (Davis 2).
Additionally, the ruling class is also capable of [subjugating], within the sphere of the arts, [and]
other possible values of art (Davis 2). They view art as a luxury good that strengthens their
social status. In the art world, the ruling class is at an advantageous position because they have
the most power in all aspects. According to Davis he writes, [with] craftsmanship or intellectual
prestige [it] indicates [your] social status (Davis 2). The more products you own, the greater
your social status. The ruling class develop very little interest in the art world and their only
motive is to gather more power. Davis claims the working class [and middle class] is controlled
from above (Davis 4) for work. In a free market, the ruling class creates challenges for the middle
class and working class to compete with each other for artistic labor.
The middle class describes a person who uses their full potential to design individuality products for
self support. Unlike the ruling

John Vankat Wine
When you are out shopping for a wine, you will see wines priced from a few dollars to thousands
of dollars. The often asked question is, can you taste the difference or are they really worth the
added costs. Some people have a dollar limit on what they will spend for a wine where others will
pay top dollar. The most important detail is to evaluate the winebased on one s own palate. The
proper technique for evaluating a wine is as follows:
Evaluate the color and appearance of the wine.
Gently swirl your glass to aerate or open up the wine and to get the aroma and bouquet from the
wine.
Take a fair amount of wine into your mouth allowing all of your taste buds to come into contact
with the wine to provide information on flavors, acid levels, etc.

Molly Dooker Boxer and R Winery First Class. I could not say that one was better than the other.

without it. In such a condition, in India and especially in southern India there is a great demand
for electricity. This article refers to such a problem and also gives a solution .Moreover

This indicates that India s future energy requirements are going to be very high and solar energy
can be one of the efficient and eco friendly ways to meet the same.
Solar thermal power generation technologies
Solar Thermal Power systems, also known as Concentrating Solar Power systems, use concentrated
solar radiation as a high temperature energy source to produce electricity using thermal route.
Since the average operating temperature of stationary non concentrating collectors is low (max up
to 1200C) as compared to the desirable input temperatures of heat engines (above 3000C), the
concentrating collectors are used for such applications. These technologies are appropriate for
applications where direct solar radiation is high. The mechanism of conversion of solar to
electricity is fundamentally similar to the traditional thermal power plants except use of solar
energy as source of heat.
In the basic process of conversion of solar into heat energy, an incident solar irradiance is
collected and concentrated by concentrating solar collectors or mirrors, and generated heat is used
to heat the thermic fluids such as heat transfer oils, air or water/steam, depending on the plant
design, acts as heat carrier and/or as storage media. The hot thermic fluid is used to generated
steam or hot gases, which are then used to operate a heat engine. In these systems, the efficiency of
the collector reduces marginally as its operating

Online Shopping Vs. Store Shopping
Online shopping vs in store shopping
Thesis: Online shopping is better than in store one and will have more customers in the future.
Since the internet came out and developed, online shopping has become important parts of many
people. With the rapid development of the Internet in the world, more and more people began to
start online shopping due to its convenience, time saving and benefits. For the definition, Online
shopping is an act of purchasing items or services on the Internet and has grown in popularity
over years. Narrowly speaking, it can be understood as searching online information and having
online deals. But broadly speaking, if one section of shopping is finished online, it will be
regarded as online shopping. What you need to learn is just to click your mouse and to wait
instead of going out by foot or driving. According to a recent survey, people in favor of online
shopping are far more than those in favor of in store shopping. Abramovich shows his survey for
behavior of shopping that: Seventy two percent of Millennials research and shop their options
online before going to a store or the mall. (Abramovich) The fact that people choose online
shopping more than in store one also shows in the Percentage of GDP 2016. Experts estimate the
share of the internet economy in the GDP of the United States to reach 5.4 percent. The developed
market average is projected to be 5.5 percent. ( Share of the internet economy in the gross domestic

Essay about Guide to Becoming a Jerk
Guide to Becoming a Jerk
Being a jerk can be fun. It gives you a feeling of dominance over others; you are more important
then the rest. You are the wolf among a flock of sheep; people fear you, and therefore look up to
you. Being a jerk is not hard; all you have to do is think about yourself and your own feelings, and
forget that everyone else has emotions. There are various ways of achieving this perception of
importance; you can put people down and belittle them, pretend you re better than everyone, or just
be plain mean, unpolite, and nasty. Sure, there might be some little voice inside saying that you are
no better than anyone else is, but you can drown out that nagging reminder with constant insults to
others. Nothing replaces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will make the other person feel insecure and reluctant to talk to you; the people around you
will either think your comments are funny (they aspire to be a jerk like you), or they will
consider you rude and disgraceful. It doesn t really matter what anyone else thinks though, does
it? You are yourself and no one else; you feel only your feelings and no one else s; so why should
you be concerned with anyone but yourself? You are king in your own mind, and your perception is
everything.
If you can t be bothered to be a witty, sarcastic jerk, you can just be a regular, mean jerk. This
kind of jerk is intolerant and impatient (to a higher degree than the other type of jerk), rude, and
unsarcastically mean. The next time someone gives you something or does something for you,
don t say thank you or show gratitude; you should even go so far as to complain about what they
gave you or how they should accomplish things faster. Don t be grateful; if you are grateful,
people will think that they can win your favor with good deeds; that s manipulation. You can t let
anyone win your favor; that would show weakness, and you have to be strong to show that you
are of great importance. Be disrespectful to everyone, and elders and authority figures especially.
Respect can also be linked to weakness, since respecting someone can be taken

Wuthering Heights and Northanger Abbey as Gothic Novels...
While on the vigorous journey through a novel, a reader can be faced with many questions, put
forth intentionally by the author, as well as ones they might conjure up for themselves. Roland
Barthes says Literature is the question minus the answer. For the most part this is true, however
when one is reading for leisure or the author does not portray as well as they could this statement is
invalid. Two novels that have been broken down recently are Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heightsand
Jane Austens Northanger Abbey. Neither book has a common central question, but they both have
their pros and cons. Wuthering Heights is a book containing an intricate plot, and a labyrinth of

Again, maybe, however, the reader does see Heathcliff as the underbelly of the human race, the
epitome of humanity. This underbelly is predominately seen in Heathcliff s relationship with
Isabella. We remember that when Isabella is first introduced to us, Heathcliff makes fun of her
and her brother for fighting over something so insignificant as a dog, to the reader, the two
Linton children are as normal as the era permitted. Yet Heathcliff destroys her, she ensures this
to us by saying I gave [Heathcliff] my heart, and he took and pinched it to death and flung it
back at me. People feel with their hearts, Ellen, and since he has destroyed mine I have not the
power to feel for him and here Isabella began to cry, but immediately dashing the water from her
lashes recommenced.... (170). Not only does Isabella say that she is broken by these turn of
events, but the fact that she does not let herself cry is another indication of severe emotional
distress. The worse part of this is whole ordeal is that Heathcliff enjoys it. He says much later on in
the book that I have lost the faculty of enjoying their destruction... (312) this implies that at one
time he did enjoy destruction of others.
Different people have tried to argue that Heathcliff is the way he is because of the distance
between him and his dead lover Catherine. However the reader must take under consideration the
cause of Catherine s death. The

remark: Extremism is the defense of liberty is no vice; moderation in the pursuit of justice is no

danger towards its citizens. Extremism takes away personal liberties by hurting innocent people and

One s socioeconomic and educational level is an important factor in the longevity of this aging
population s existence. Greene County is a relatively poor community with only 11.3% of
individuals holding a B.A. or higher degree of education (Stats, 2014). The ability for self pay or
likelihood of one in this age group having private health insurance is decreased. Therefore, the
financial burden for this age group falls back on government agencies in the form of Medicare
for qualifying older adult or the older adult fails to seek medical attention due to the lack of

Definition Of Self Regulation Assignment
Self regulation Assignment Manjunath Bhat McMaster University Under the principle of
universality, the standardization of nursing care across the country is important to maintain inter
professional equality and compatibility. This can be achieved by regulating nursing practice
through inter professional collaboration, communication, professional conduct, accountability and
mutual respect (Benton, GonzГЎlez Jurado Beneit Montesinos, 2013). Self regulation assignment
is a tool developed by College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) to promote safe, competent and ethical
nursing care in Ontario. It will assist nurses with professional practice and help them understand the
expectation of entry level practice. It will also ensure that nurses are able to demonstrate the
competencies through Quality Assurance (QA) program (Colleges of Nurses of Ontario, 2014a).
The College regulates the nursing practice through the quality assurance program which has two
parts: self assessment and practice assessment. The purpose of self assessment is to identify
learning needs and develop a learning plan using SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable,
Reliable and Time bound) to meet those learning needs. Through the practice assessment, CNO
regulates the nursing practice by selecting few nurses to participate in the assessment every year.

Nato s Justification Of The Security Council
NATO s 11 week bombing campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) in March
1999 was a challenge in the history of the North Atlantic alliance. For the first time, NATO
launched an armed intervention outside its borders in order to avert a humanitarian crisis (Solana
1999: 114). The bombing campaign was intended to stop Belgrade s repression of Kosovos
Albanian population and to oblige the Milosevic regime to accept NATO s demands regarding the
future political status of Kosovo (Wippman 2001: 129).
NATO s decision to intervene in Kosovo without the authorization of the Security Council raised
doubts in the international arena among human rights activists about the legitimacy of the
operation. This essay will argue that NATO s intervention in Kosovo was legitimate because it
was both legal and just. In so doing, this essay will start by carefully reading the U.N. Charter
provisions that permit the use of force on limited grounds in order to set the legal conditions for
intervention (Mertus 2000: 1751). NATO s legitimacy in Kosovo will be scrutinized focusing on
the emerging body of international law, which permits intervention for humanitarian purposes.
Likewise, a just war analysis will be applied to examine the morality of the decision to wage war,
and the morality of the means and methods by which the war was conducted (Schroeder 2004: 180).
The essay will eventually conclude that humanitarian intervention is now legal and widely accepted

(knowing what to say, how to say it, and when to say it and how to be with other people). Children
with pragmatic difficulties have great trouble using language socially in ways that are appropriate
or typical of children of their age. Abigail did not demonstrate any difficulty staying on topic or
with turn taking. Her responses were appropriate and relevant with this examiner. She maintained
eye contact during her interchanges with this examiner.

Informational Constraints
1. Chapter eight describes three broader goals of one s audience in addition to those discussed
earlier in the textbook. One of these is security. Another is professional growth. As the textbook
notes, people want to develop and grow on the job...they want to learn more skills and assume new
duties...and they want to work for an organization that is developing and growing (Markel, 2012).
2. Constraints within technical writing are things such as the amount of information that can be
gathered for a paper, the required length and format, the due date, etc. (Markel, 2012), that impact
the writing process. These often help a writer compose a document however they also can be a
hindrance as well. An example of an informational constraint... Show more content on

A commonsense argument is one that appeals to a person s understanding and experience of how
the world works. The textbook notes, if your audience s commonsense arguments match yours,
your argument is likely to be persuasive. Often, people can act in mysterious ways, and this is an
effective way to present an argument. Like the University of Maryland s University College notes
on their website, Clear thinking requires that you state your claim and support it with concrete,
specific facts. This approach appeals to our common sense... ( Writing Arguments, 2011). 7. One
type of argument is one that argues against the writer themselves, instead of against the writer s
argument. This is known as a ad hominem argument, or an argument against the speaker (Markel,
2012) according to the textbook. Ad hominem arguments are useful in convincing someone to do
something or of a side of something because of a characteristic they possess. These arguments are
logical fallacies that are colloquially known as mistakes in reasoning ( What is..., n.d.) that are often
not mistakes that can help writers and speakers win persuasive

The Case Of Walker III V. Texas Division, Sons Of...
In Walker III v. Texas Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans (2015), attorney Scott Keller argues
on behalf of the petitioner Walker III (Walker) and attorney Roger George represents the respondent
Texas Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV). The case concerns the constitutionality of a
decision made by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Board (the DMV Board) to reject the
specialty license plate designs submitted by SCV and its members, and addresses possible
violations of the First and Fourteenth Amendment. Four contentions surround the issue: the form of
speech embodied by the specialty license plate program; State control over the content of specialty
license plates; specialty license plates as a limited public forum; and, ultimately, the potential
violation of the First Amendment s Free Speech Clause and the Fourteenth Amendment s guarantee
of viewpoint neutrality. Justice Breyer delivers the opinion of the Court, affirming the plates as
government speech. However, Justice Alito, joined by the Chief Justice, Justice Scalia, and Justice
Kennedy, Justice Alito dissents, concerned with. the Court s broad interpretation of government
speech. Speaking for the petitioner, Scott Keller cites Summum as precedent and asserts that
messages displayed on Texas license plates are, in fact, government speech. Dismissing the claim
that specialty plates represent government speech, Roger George, for the respondent, contends the

Rick Yancey s The Infinite Sea
The Infinite Sea Book Report
The book, I chose for my Book Talk #4 is The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey. It is the second book of
the trilogy of the 5th Wave Book series. This book has a Lexile level of HL640L, the grade
interest is ninth to twelfth, and the age range extends from 14 to 18 years. The Infinite Sea is a
Science Fiction book, but it has hints of horror in the trope of the story.
The setting of the book is in Urbana, Illinois; a more urban city, but beautiful greenery. Though as
in Urbana at this one throughout the book, white is approaching the city, and this is extreme bad as
the winters in Urbana are harsh and dreary. The setting time is a bit more modern with
communication and technology that we have to this day, but a bit less ... Show more content on

Simplifying Expressions
While working on this problem I learned a lot about basic properties of addition and
multiplication, such as distributive property, inverse property, commutative properties, etc. What s
common about these problems is the order in which we are going to do the steps. The first step
will always be to remove the parenthesis, which uses the distributive property. Second will always
be combining like terms and adding related coefficients what we have been working on this week
which is dealing with real numbers.
Here is the solution to the first problem:
2a(a 5)+ 4(a 5)
=2aa+2a( 5)+4a 4в‹…5
=2a^2 10a+4a 20
=2a^2 6a 20
The steps used to simplify this equation are as follows:
First I remove all of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although I still have parentheses in the equation, they are only there to emphasize the negative
numbers.
20.05(0.3m+35n) 0.8( 0.09n 22m) =0.05в‹…0.3m+0.05в‹…35n 0.8в‹…( 0.09n) 0.8в‹…( 22m)
The second step is to figure out the correct coefficients:
0.05в‹…0.3m+0.05в‹…35n 0.8в‹…( 0.09n) 0.8в‹…( 22m)=0.015m+1.75n+0.072n+17.6m
The final step is to find the like terms and then combine them to obtain the simplified form:
0.015m+1.75n+0.072n+17.6m=17.615m+1.822n
The expression is now fully simplified to 17.615m+1.822n
In all three problems in this problem set, I learned how to simplify algebraic expressions using
distributive property and commutative property. In the second problem I used the inverse property
of addition. I noticed that the third problem was different from the first and second problems, in that
in the third problem there were no integer numbers. This whole section is about real numbers so
this problem set teaches us how to operate using both integer and non integer real

Cerebral Blood
Measuring the cerebral blood volume has always been a focal point of several neuroimaging studies
in order to get a better understanding of the varied structure function relationships within the human
brain. Being one of the most complicated structures in the human body, the brain sits inside our
head, protected by the skull and is made up of billions of neurons. The Cerebrum, cerebellum, and
the brainstem, which turns into the spinal cord, are the three parts of the brain which are
responsible for carrying out actions, thoughts, and maintaining hemostasis. (4) The cerebrum is

Doppler ultrasound is a way to measure the peak systolic and diastolic velocities. Resting peak
velocities in both common carotid and internal carotid arteries decrease as individual ages. If a
stenosis is present, then the internal carotid velocity increases relative to the normal values. To
get an estimate of the blood flow, researchers use Doppler and B mode ultrasound measurements.
(3) By examining the blood flow at the bifurcation ridge in the carotid artery, we could determine
few key features of the blood that is being delivered to the brain via the carotid arteries. Nearly two
thirds of the entire flow, enters the internal carotid artery and the velocity of the blood in the
proximal internal carotid artery is usually higher on the wall next to the bifurcation.

Ethanol s Affects on the Greater Market
Chain Reaction: Ethanol s Affects on the High Fructose Corn Syrup Market
Since Ethanol has been introduced to American markets its use has risen. However, this change
does not just impact Ethanol production, but also the production and market of other areas that do
not directly impact Ethanol. While it is hard to pinpoint a change in market to a single thing,
Ethanol has an affect on other markets, such as High Fructose Corn Syrup. Ethanol not only has
this affect on the High Fructose Corn Syrup Market, but through this also has a greater affect on
related markets such as Corn and the Sugar markets. Discovering this impact not only reveals the

This is primarily because corn is cheaper and easier to produce and use. While this raise in
Ethanol has increased corn production and sales as a whole, it is possible it has lowered corn
production for food consumption across the states. Not only is corn used for human
consumption, but it is also used as a food for animals in factories and on farms. On top of this,
corn is also used in a popular sweetener, High Fructose Corn Syrup. If corn is being used more
for Ethanol production, will production for these categories decrease? One of the reasons it is
difficult to identify Ethanol as the cause of change in sales for each of these markets is because it
is not the only variable affecting them. There is always a group against both corn feeding of
livestock and high fructose corn syrup, which can cause both markets to

According to Tweed, religious spaces are differentiated , kinetic and interrelated . What s more, the
depiction of Jerusalem in the biblical texts justifies the presence of these characteristics in this
pivotal space for three major religions; God s high recognition of Jerusalem and people s
entrenched belief that Godis in the city and therefore their fearlessness against any potential disaster
as shown in the Bibleillustrates the uniqueness and thus the differentiated ness of this city; the
downfall of the city conforms to Tweed s statement, [spaces] change over time , or the kinetic
nature of religious spaces; the monetary cost and artistic precision necessary for building the First
Temple, which alludes to the economic and cultural strengths of the area, elaborates on the
interrelated feature of the religious spaces. (Tweed 2011:120) It is these qualities of Jerusalem
found in the Bible that make it this holy and profane religious space, awing the devotees from all

more or less special , singular , or set apart . (Tweed 2011:119). These differentiated spaces, unlike
unnamed generic locales, can sensorially touch the devotees and affect their daily life, no matter
the geographical distance in between or even whether the devotees have experienced the sites in

Essay on Parthenon and Lincoln Memorial

As many people know, the architects of many buildings have used a multitude of techniques and
methods from ancient architecture to build newer buildings. For example, the Capitol Building
uses Greek and Roman architecture in its columns, while the Washington Monument is in the style
of an Egyptian Obelisk. One of the monuments, the Lincoln Memorial, is based off the styles and
methods of the Architecture of the Parthenon. Because of this, there are many similarities, but also
differences, between the Parthenon and the Lincoln Memorial.
The architects of the Parthenon were Iktinos, Kallikrates, and Phidias. Although not much is known

Born April 20th, 1850, French, before he was a sculptor, was a Lawyer and a Judge, among other
occupations. In Ancient Greece, the Greeks widely believed in Gods and Goddesses such as Zeus,
Poseidon, Aphrodite, and Athena. The patron Goddess of Athena was Athens, and the Athenians
believed that pleasing their patron Goddess would give them good luck and fortune. This may be
one of the reasons that Athena Parthenos and the Parthenon were built. Another believed reason
that the Parthenon was built was that the leader at the time, Pericles, wanted to show the power and
wealth of Athens. In comparison, the Lincoln Memorial was built to honor the 16th president,
Abraham Lincoln. One of the reasons that Bacon had for basing the memorial on the Parthenon was
to draw a parallel between the two governments What better way existed to remember a man who
struggled to defend democracy, than to model his tribute after one found in the birthplace of

designed in the Greek temple style. They both hold Doric columns the Parthenon had 86, while the
Lincoln Memorial had 36 columns. Although there are many more columns in the Parthenon, the
Lincoln Memorial has much larger columns. Doric columns came from the Doric order, a style of

Analyzing And Evaluation Modern Biographies About El Cid
Analyzing and Evaluation Modern Biographies about El Cid
Modern biographies are often looked at by others as a reputable source of information when it
comes to their subject of interest being hundreds of years old. Maybe it is because people today
tend to believe whatever they are told or perhaps they see the title Dr. or professor pop up on the
screen and put all of their trust in whatever that person is saying. However, that s exactly the
problem, whoever is holding the title of Dr. or professor is as equal a person like you or me, and
sometimes we forget to hold them susceptible to error. With that said, when analyzing and
evaluating the modern biographies of El Cid one has to remember that whoever is stating these
facts has only ever studied or read the same information myself and a regular Joe Schmo could
have read and studied. They are not privy to any information that can be proven true by Rodrigo
DГaz de Vivar himself, as they cannot time travel back to medieval times and ask him to answer
all of their questions. Because the people who created these modern biographies, only had the
sources that were written on El Cid thousands of years ago to base their stories on, one has to
question the validity of these modern biographies and how much they are willing to trust these
sources just as they had to do the same for the written historical sources. El Cid (the movie), The
Conquerors: El Cid (the documentary) and El Cid: The Making of a Legend, are the three modern

Why Is The 13th Amendment Important
History Of The 13th Amendment The 13th amendment has got to be one of the most important
amendments from the reconstruction era. It not only freed slaves from slavery, but it was the
beginning of a whole new world. Though racism and segregation was still an issue, African
Americans were no longer anyone s property.
How it all started On November 16, 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the sixteenth president of the
United States. He was the first president of the Republican Party. Lincoln was never a fan of slavery
. He believed that If slavery were not wrong then nothing were wrong. The big issue he saw since
he was a young lawyer was that the constitution protected slavery. No one really believed in having
an Emancipation. It was actually a huge fear that everyone had. They believed that soldiers would
not fight if there were an Emancipation. It took Lincoln a while to figure out that if there ... Show

On the other hand the Republicans believed that it was uncivilized and that it could possibly restore
the spirit of the 1st Amendment. One very big effect that happened after the 13th amendment was
the start of the Civil War. The passing of the amendment was not the main reason for the start of the
Civil War, but it was a very big start to the fire. There is one fact that i found about the Amendment
that was very interesting to me. One fact was that the Amendment/ Lincoln was able to ban slavery.
Something that the founding fathers were not able to consider when they wrote the document not
much then seventy years before. The Amendment was a new beginning for a lot of people, not only
African Americans. This was the beginning of many other Amendments and the birth of

The reason why US Copiers manufactures cartridges and copiers is because of the opportunity

could have reused the material to make something else. It gives them variety. They would not be
dependent on others because they only produce one thing. Other companies do not specialize for

The Film Techniques Used By Cameron
Being a science fiction fan during his childhood, he worked his way in producing several highly

State University. In order to pursue his dreams in cinematography, he worked as a truck driver

The book covers an interesting subject matter that many people are not aware of. Stephen
Mansfield does very well in evaluating the different elements of Lincoln s faith, as well as his

However, despite Mansfield offering tons of information to the readers, his work began to

in their work, I feel Mansfield could have done without some repetition. To me, some important
points were passed over by ideas that were constantly being repeated. Because of this I felt I was

Why Enron Became A Middle Man Company
With the changing of the economy in the late 1990s, as the old millennium was ending and the
new one beginning, one particular company discovered a new way to rise to the top in the
trading business. Enron, originally known as a natural gas pipeline company [started by
Kenneth Lay in 1985], soon became known as an energy trading corporation that bought and
sold gas as well as electricity. (Fox, 1). With over 20,000 employees and 40 worldwide
businesses, The Houston, TX Corporation soon became a prodigy of the times. Originally it made
its profit by promising to deliver a particular amount of gas to certain businesses at market price on
particular days. (O Harrow Jr.). Soon, Enronbecame a middle man company, placing it between
buyers and sellers and making money off of the difference between the selling and buying prices.
Their books were kept closed to each opposing party, making Enron the only one to know both
prices. (O Harrow Jr.). After entering many complex and intense contracts, the corporation entered
into business with Arthur Andersen, an accounting firm who handled Enron s auditing. (Fox, 6).
Enron had complex services and high rising stocks. At the top of the game, Enron was a company
worth about $70 billion; its stocks were trading at a rate of $90 a share, and seemed indestructible.

Similarities Between Karl Marx And Adam Smith
The 21st century is seen as the century of rapid change, innovative technology and immense
knowledge. But how did we get to this point? A look back to Britain in the late 1700s shows the
start of the Industrial Revolution, a time of shifting from man power to machines, and
improvements in transportation, as well as increased volume and variety of manufactured goods.
In the midst of all this change, two men took their own views and shared them with the world.
Adam Smith and Karl Marx argued on their thoughts about capitalism and what kind of world it
created, the origins of the Industrial Revolution, and the influences of division of labour. Many of
those thoughts were based upon similarities in each point, but Smith had more of an economic
view in the way of national wealth, while Marx held a social view for personal wealth of
individuals. The two men tell of their opinion of this economic change through their work and now
are seen as some of the biggest influences on the views of the Industrial Revolution and today s
world economy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Smith, who was born in 1723, liked the idea of a capitalist world. He voiced that opinion in 1776
when he published the book, The Wealth of Nations. Smith liked the idea of capitalism in the
Industrial Revolution because he argued that it was good for building up the national wealth of the
country. With manufacturing companies being owned privately that meant lower wages and higher
production rates, which would create a greater profit for the entire country as a whole. Capitalism
was the theory that people should be able to own production without the government being
involved. Through his thinking, private business enterprises were allowed to develop with the sole
motive of gaining profit. Karl Marx on the other hand had a different

The Hmong are an ethnic group of people who live in the mountains of Laos. They were seen as

soldiers in the Secret War, due to their strength, fighting spirit, and expert knowledge of the
terrain. As the war intensified, the US sent fighter bombers to assist Hmong ground forces against
the Pathet Lao (Lao Communist soldiers). According to Kurlantzick, by 1973 the US had

due to lax congressional oversight and media ignorance the American people knew very little about
any of this.
When the US withdrew in 1975, the Hmong rightly felt betrayed. They were left without support,

Today, we categorize those who supported ratification of the Constitution and the federal
government as the Federalist. Those who opposed it are known as the Anti Federalist. The Anti
Federalist feared that this new government design would be too powerful and tyrannical just like
the monarch of Great Britain. Instead they supported local, state governments. The Federalist wrote
series of papers known as the Federalist Papers, in which they responded to the concerns of the Anti
Federalist. Many times disproving claims of tyranny. In the 69th Federalist Paper, Alexander
Hamilton addresses the concern of the presidential powers, ...the President will resemble equally
that of the king of Great Britain and of the governor of New York (1788). The federalist believed
that the national government should hold authority in most matters, like that of a king. At the same
time there would be checks and balances on the president just like a governor. The Federalist did
not want a tyrannical government, and believed that the Constitution would protected them from
such. A compromise had to be made to determine the fate of the United States.
To resolve their differences, the Anti Federalist drafted a list of rights protecting all citizens, now
more commonly known as the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights secured the rights of citizens, while
also limiting the scope of the national government under the 10th amendment. The framers
designed a government able

What Is The Purpose Of Shifting Speech Patterns In...
Introduction Throughout the course of political campaigns, candidates travel throughout a set
district in order to gain the support of various constituents. In doing so, speech patterns may be
dependent upon the audience being addresses and by how concerned a candidate is with winning
that group s approval. Such changes unconsciously manifest, while others could be deliberate
alterations to one s speech. For this project, I would be examining this idea by analyzing modern
political campaign tactics and speeches; particularly, President Barack Obamawould be the focal
point of my analysis. President Barack Obama emerged as a charismatic figure of the American
political scene. In 2004, then Senator Obama delivered a hopeful message during... Show more

Through in depth analysis of his political career, an answer will manifest. If so, are these
changes voluntary or involuntary? In addition, the purpose of shifting speech patterns will be
investigated. For answering the first question, my data, a collection of speeches made by
President Barack Obama, will allow me to analyze how a national politician may speak when
going across the country. Analysis would involve deep looks into the speeches and transcribing
of speech patterns. Such patterns may include changes in tone and pitch, hand gestures, selective
vocabulary, etc. These processes are similar across the board as all of these questions would
require the same looks into my data. To hypothesize, based on previous work in this course, I
believe that the results will show a deliberate change of speech with Barack Obama s speeches. In
order to gain votes from the people, one must pretend to be among the people.
Significance
Politicians compete every year for some level of power and authority. Voters grant such authority
through a democratic system of elections. Simply, elections are popularity contest as voters look
for the person who embodies the values they hold dear. Therefore, a politician fights to earn every
vote which he/she possibly can. One of the most distinct ways to make connect with people is to
speak the region s common language, whether that be a dialect or entirely different language than
before. This idea leaves

Iran And Iran On Iran
Essay
How does Iran continue to resist US sanctions?
This paper will seek to identify three key aspects of US sanctions imposed on Iran. First the paper
will briefly introduce the reasons as to why US and Iran relations have worsened since the 1979
Islamic Revolution. Secondly, this paper shall outline some of the key sanctions imposed on Iran
which have influenced Irans s behaviour. After sanctions are reviewed, the paper will then
summarise the impact of sanctions on Iran. Last but not the least and most importantly, the paper
will elaborate how Iran is resisting stringent US sanctions. This paper will argue that despite
punitive measures adopted by the US, Iran has found alternative mechanisms to fight them and has

This coup was a crucial turning point in US Iran relations. Sixty years on, the coup continues to
loom large in Iran s national psyche and remains a thorn in the country s relations with the West.
(Bezhan, 2013)
Iran s nuclear programme has in recent years worsened US Iran relations. The United States
accuses Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons (Bahgat , 2009). Other reasons for mistrust
include USA s support for Iraq during the Iran Iraq War in the 1980 s. Specifically, Iran continues
to resent the US supplying Iraq with the chemical weapons it used during the war. Adding fuel to
the fire, in 1988, US guided missile Cruiser the USS Vincennes on station in the Persian Gulf
mistakenly shot down Iranian Airlines flight 655 killing 290. (Milinski, n.d.)
In recent times a critical point of conflict is the US sanctions imposed on Iran. The key recent
financial sanctions in place against Iran include: the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability,
and Divestment Act of 2010 (CISADA); the USA PATRIOT Act money laundering designation of
2011; the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 (NDAA); the Iran Threat Reduction and
Syria Human Rights Act of 2012 (ITRA); and the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013
(Carter Farha, 2013, p. 320).

Helicopter Parenting And Its Effects On Children And Young...
The research of this study deals with helicopter parenting and how it affects teenagers. Helicopter
parenting (Parents that are too involved) is a major social issue of concern in North America
because researchers are learning that as teenagers grow up into young adults; their parents are
becoming more involved in their life, and making them more dependant. What are the effects of
helicopter parentingon the ability for a child to become independent? Thus, this Literature Review
addresses the research on children that have at least one parentthat displaces helicopter parenting
and impact on children, post secondary students, and becoming an adult? In order to fully
understand the effects on kids throughout their aging process, an analysis of the broader context, in
terms of the findings of the research of experts in the field are needed. Thus, this Literature Review
outlines the research on helicopter parenting and its effects on children and young adults.
In recent years there has been a new social parenting norm known as helicopter parenting . With
much research and progress on the topic, scientists have revealed that there are actually two
categories of this over protective caregiving. Tiger, snow plow parenting are often addressed as
helicopter parenting, and all three are the act of making a child dependent on their parent (A
Miano, 2014). Specifically, tiger parenting is strict limitation to what a child can do, weather that
is to have a phone or a sleepover. Snow

not Dan Houser s intention to become a game designer, but over time he became fascinated with
storytelling. Dan s brother, Sam, was working for a music label that was trying to branch out into

Emerson and Thoreau
An influential literary movement in the nineteenth century, transcendentalism placed an emphasis
on the wonder of nature and its deep connection to the divine. As the two most prominent figures in
the transcendentalist movement, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau whole heartedly
embraced these principles. In their essays Self Reliance and Civil Disobedience , Emerson and
Thoreau, respectively, argue for individuality and personal expression in different manners. In Self
Reliance , Emerson calls for individuals to speak their minds and resist societal conformity, while in
Civil Disobedience Thoreau urged Americans to publicly state their opinions in order to improve
their own government. Both Thoreau and Emerson... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emerson and Thoreau argue that only through self reliance and civil disobedience can society
and government be saved from corruption and incompetence. A key difference between the
philosophies of Emerson and Thoreau as articulated in Self Reliance and Civil Disobedience is
their vision of how individuals should shape society and government. Emerson believes that one
should only follow his own conscience and intellect not the opinions of the crowd. Emerson
argues that it is not only possible to successfully defy the common practices and beliefs of
society, but that to be great is to be misunderstood (Emerson 367). However, Thoreau believes
that in a democracy the voice of the people as whole should be followed. Thoreau desires a better
government , not anarchy devoid of the law where every individual follows his own set of rules
(Thoreau 381). Although assuredly in favor of individuality, Thoreau recognizes that a democracy
requires public consensus and popular support. While Emerson and Thoreau certainly have
difference of opinions, they recognize the need for public discussion and discourse. Emerson
declares a foolish consistency to be the hobgoblin of little minds (Emerson 367). This is shown in
their essays Self Reliance and Civil Disobedience in which they support individuality and personal
expression. Despite their contrasting views of society and government, the two most

Electronic Commerce And The Internet
Electronic commerce, commonly known as eCommerce, is a term for any type of business, or
commercial transaction that involves the transfer of information across the Internet. Most people
believe it is only the buying and selling of product or service over the Internet and other computer
networks, but eCommerce is so much more. It covers a range of different types of businesses, from
consumer based retail, through auction or music sites, to businessexchanges trading goods and
services between corporations (networksolutions.com). It is currently one of the most significant
aspects of the Internet to emerge. Ecommerce allows consumers to exchange goods and services
without the barriers of time and distance. Electronic commercehas expanded rapidly over the past
two decades and, will likely, continue at this rate, or even accelerate. In the near future, the limits
between conventional and electronic commerce will become more distorted as more and more
businesses move segments of their operations onto the Internet. In today s world, consumers can
access a wide variety of products on the web, due to the revolution created by Internet. Ranging
from clothes, gadgets, music, books, groceries and more, Internet has facilitated consumers to pick
the products of their option and get it delivered to their doorstep. Rather than leaving home to
shop, today, people can place orders for the products they need with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Critical Summary Of Insurgent
Choice As was true of its precursor, Insurgent mainly revolves around the theme of choices and in
the manner they can change you. After all, the book s tagline is one choice can destroy you. In
Insurgent, all of Tris s decisions had main drawback, as she determined whether or not to enter risky
situations, to fib to Tobias, and even to surrender herself. With so much on the line, Tris s choices
involve not only her, but everybody around her. As the cycle goes on, option left just as important,
but the stakes get upper and upper DivisionThe entire group system is based around separating
people up and creating diverse groups with limitations between them. Insurgent illustrates how these
divisions generate an us vs. them attitude that eventually brings it to ruin. In this novel, schism also
happen within these groups: Dauntless splits into faithful and conspirator, Abnegation is broken ,
Erudite imperfection from Jeanine and her following, and Johanna and other Amity tear from their
section when they do not have the same point of view with the result to stay straightforward .
These divisions are what eventually creates so much annihilation, and as Tris learns time and yet
again that it is not possible to complete snooty goals when you are separated down in the center.
Trust and Honesty With much of this novel taking place in Candor nerve center, it is to be expected
that trust and honesty figure vastly into the theme. Tris and Tobias s relationship is put under harm

High Stakes Testing And The Education System
High Stakes Testing has been overly integrated in the education systems. High stakes testing are
used to determine grade retention, school curriculum, and whether or not students will receive a
high school diploma (Myers, 2015). Since the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001, high
stakes testing has become the norm and mandating that students must pass a standardized testbefore
moving up in grade. As a special educationdirector, the focus is to ensure the student s
accommodations are being followed. Accommodations help increase students academic
performance. Both the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) of 2004
and No Child Left Behind (NCLB) call for students with disabilities to participate in the general
education curriculum and in testing programs to the maximum extent possible for each student
(Luke and Schwartz, 2010). Throughout the years, high stakes testing is becoming more common
than ever before. The reality is high stakes testing is one indicator in evaluating children with
specific needs. This paper will discuss, the violation of the statutory language regarding assessment
based on IDEA, the strategies and goals of a remediation, staff training, common Core and PARCC
assessment, and funding for the remediation plan under IDEA. With high stakes testing, it requires,
states to use accommodation and alternative testing in order to allow states not to exclude students
with special needs from taking any of the state s test. Before

End Of Life Care Observation
What I have observed is that more attention and support is given when the patient has family
members who come and surround the patient during the patient last moment of life. Staff allows
family members to have their privacy with the dying patient because is needed for the family to
have that precious moment with their loved one. However, the goal should be to ask family
members if they need that privacy or want staff involvement. However, attention and support are
still provided when needed. With that said, family support can influence how much support or

Who Is The Hero Of The Hobbit
1.Who is the hero of The Hobbit?
J.R.R Tolkien s The Hobbit or There and Back Again implements many forms of heroism; whether
it be Bilbo, Bard, Gandalf, or even Thorin and his dwarves. Relating to this, there is no one hero
per se but rather multiple; the heroes face both internal and external challenges. This essay will
argue that the heroes of The Hobbit are Bilbo, Gandalf, Bard and Thorin respectively, in addition,
this essay will also analyse the first stage of the hero s journey structure according to Joseph
Campbell regarding Bilbo. Firstly, the main protagonist Bilbo Baggins sets a benchmark to the
notion of an archetype hero. Kennedy, Gioia and Bauerlein describe an archetype as a recurring
symbol, character, landscape, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as Campbell notes, the figure encounters a series of dangers, in this case being the trolls, the
goblins, escaping from Gollum and going into Smaug s lair. With assistance from Gandalf the
group is saved from the goblins; however, the dwarves and Bilbo are separated. The interaction
between Gollum and Bilbo demonstrates a quality trait exhibited by a hero and, as a result,
Bilbo s actions are seen to outweigh his individual characteristics. Simultaneously, Bilbo displays
wisdom in answering Gollum s riddles and in turn exhibits cunning; Bilbo seeing what had
happened and having nothing better to ask stuck to his question (74). In the same way, Bilbo s
adventure is seen according to Pearce as a pilgrimage of grace in which he grows up (3).
Therefore, Bilbo s main goal of his adventure according to Pearce is to eliminate evil amongst
themselves (3); thus, identifying an internal quest. Particularly after Smaug s death, the corruption
of the gold leads the dwarf leader Thorin Oakenshield to suffer from dragon sickness; the obsessive
possessiveness of dragons (Pearce 83). The actions of Bilbo and internal qualities such as wisdom
and cunning thus concludes that he is a hero in The Hobbit, however, other characters exhibit
heroic qualities.
Gandalf henceforth can also be depicted as the hero of the story, heroism therefore can be
determined by actions. Moreover, his role as the

In that classic old movie, Papillon, starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman, there is a
particular phrase that stays in my mind. It occurs when McQueen, playing Papillon, is in solitary
confinement and is obviously on the point of dying. He goes into a sort of coma and starts seeing
friends of his who are now dead. Then an authoritarian sounding voice says, I accuse you of a
wasted life. It is on this subject that I write this particular essay.
Many of us of heard of Abraham Maslow s Pyramid of Human Needs. We know a little about the
basic needs of food, shelter, et cetera. We know of feelings of belonging and self esteem. We also
know of self actualization, though there is often confusion between self actualization and self
realization. So I d like to explain a little about the difference here.
Self Actualization
Self actualization refers to becoming as much as we can in the practical pragmatic scheme of
affairs. It refers to developing our talents, our skills, in educating ourselves to the best of our
ability, being the best we

The Benefits Of Imminent Domain
America is renowned for the honorable rights that she gives her people and it is commonplace to
hear her referred to as the land of the free . The United States Supreme Court, however, has recently
decided to take this land away from the free in a daft decision that gave the government the power
to demolish family homes in the name of public use under the Constitution s Fifth Amendment.
This decision should not have been made and has rightfully angered citizens across the country.
The act of eminent domain has traditionally been interpreted as a way to build public roads,
schools, and courthouses. Local governments, however, have been invoking these two words for
far less principled reasons such as building new shopping malls or new more

Technology as a Gender Deconstructing Tool in Postmodern Neuromancer As we continue our
march through the technological age, it is easy to see how technologies have affected all parts
of our day to day lives. In Sinister Fruitiness, Stevens writes about how pervasive technologies
have changed human existence in developed countries. Written in the mid 90s, before the real
surge of internet and digital innovation, Stevens was already commenting on how people had
begun to align their circadian rhythms so that their days gave them convenient windows to log in
and check their e mails (414). Socializing has changed as the imbrication of physical and digital
realities continues to intensify. Our body language skills continue to erode in an age of remote
interaction, where people are accustomed to documenting and narrating their lives for on line
friends, many of whom we ve never met (414). In Neuromancer, Gibson portrays a technology
rich cyberpunk world whose synthesis of computer science and biology seems predictive of our
current social direction. In Gibson s world, technological progress has had a significant effect on
gender norms, as genderless cyber space and cyborg body transformations muddle the basic
biological distinctions between man and woman. As part of a postmodern commentary, Gibson uses
technology as a gender deconstructing tool, highlighting present day patriarchal gender

Descriptive Essay On A Lucid Dream
Connected Alexis tastes the salty breeze around her as she begins to open her eyes, but all she
can feel is her eyes drooping back down. She tries to pull up her fluffy pink blanket, that she
received on her birthday the previous week before. There is nothing there when she reaches for
it. Alexis rubs her eyes and repeatedly blinks, she sees water. Wide awake now, she stands up
and gasps. In front of her is the crystal clear, coral blue ocean. Immediately her jaw drops she is
in shock, she has no clue where she is or how she got there. Bright green palm trees and the baby
blue sky surrounds her. She brushes off the sticky sand on her pale legs and arms. The first thing
that comes to her mind is if she is in another lucid dream. She reacts by pinching herself
continuously. Nothing. Alexis, now hyperventilating, paces around in circles with her hands on
her forehead. She then calms herself down and follows the rhythmic sound of a smooth
waterfall. On the way there she observes majestic birds flying towards the towering trees. In the
short time period Alexis walks, she sees every single kind of exotic flower. She feels the warm
sun rays shining down her back as she sprints towards the waterfall. She expects mermaids to
pop out of the water as she rests her bare feet in the water. She enjoys the giant pool filled with
ice cold water as that is the only things she s familiar with. While washing her face and hair, out
of the corner of her eyes, she sees a trail. As she hikes up the trail she notices that it is man made.
Alexis continues following path, she listens to the sounds of footprints and heavy breathy. She
has the impression that someone is watching her. Out of nature, she sprints. She has an immense
burst of strange energy, and not the good kind, a negative spirit. I lost them for sure , Alexis
murmurs to herself as she slows down. The trail pauses in front of wood stairs with detailed
designs on the railing. She looks up so high that her neck is in risk of breaking. She spots a
breathtaking treehouse, made of dark wood blending in with the trees around it. Mesmerized by the
sight she runs up the steep, sturdy stairs. As she reaches the edge of the porch, she cautiously looks
through the window.

Symbolism By Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
Symbolism; the use of symbols to represent something abstract by something concrete. It can be
powerful in a novel when used correctly. Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter is a prime
example of Symbolism being used creatively in a work. This is what Hyatt H. Waggoner has to
say about the Hawthornes creativity. But in between the surface and the depths movement is
constant and complex, and it is in this middle that the principal value of the work lies. (Waggoner
73)What Waggoner is talking about is the Symbolism that is used by Hawthorne. Hawthorne s
symbolism is complex and creative. When symbolism is used there must always be symbols.
Symbols can take many forms and three of these forms are, places, things, and people. Hawthorne
uses these forms of symbols in his novel. The three symbols I will highlight are; the scaffold, the
scarlet letterand Reverend Dimmesdale. To give background, The Scarlet Letter takes place in
colonial Boston where the separation of church and state is not yet in place. Hester Prynneis a
normal puritan woman and is sentenced to wear a scarlet letter A on her bosom for the remainder
of her life. This is because she was sentenced with adultery after having sexual relations with
Reverend Dimmesdale, while being married to her husband, Roger Chillingworth. Hester Prynne
will not tell Roger Chillingworth who she had relations with, but he is determined to find Hester
Prynne s lover. Later in the story, Reverend Dimmesdale becomes ill and Roger

  • 2. Creon Is The Tragic Hero Of Antigone One might think Antigone is the tragic hero of her own story, but as the audience read in The Burial at Thebes: A Version of Sophocles Antigone translated by Seamus Heaney, readers know that she is not the tragic hero and learn the King is. The story starts after Polyneices and Eteocles battled to the death. This Creonas next in line to take the crown. Creon buries Eteocles but leaves Polyneices body to rot. Antigone wants to bury Polyneices, as a result, he goes the Underworld. Based on Aristotle s definition, Creon is the tragic heroof Antigone because although he starts from a position of greatness, his tragic flaws lead to a catastrophe; he realizes the error of his ways, but it is too late to prevent the catastrophe; his downfall and suffering leave him humbled and enlightened. First, based on Aristotle s definition, Creon is the tragic hero of Antigone because although he starts from a position of greatness, his tragic flaw leads to Catastrophe. That s how guilt/ Affects some people./ They Simply break/ and everything comes out./ But the barefaced ones./ The ones who defy you more when they re found out,/ They re worse again (Heaney 31). He means that guilt results in truth and that people who defy him talk more when they are caught. Creon knows that Antigone is the one who went ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Texas County Government System During the early days of the Texas government system, many districts were divided into counties and cities. In those two entities, there are general purpose local governments and special purpose governments, each with their own regions and responsibilities. Because of the size of Texas, many rural areas rely on the local county government to conduct political business. Texas has the largest number of counties compared to all the other states; 254 in total. Before vehicles, many Texans had to travel to the capital to conduct state business. Therefore, it was important to establish some form of local government system for the people who lived further from the city to be able to have access to the government. This can cause two different effects for the various positions within the government; it allows normal citizens to contribute and possibly be rewarded with a job within the local government (pluralism), or it allows unqualified people to attain jobs based on who they know or how much they gave during the campaign (elitism). The city government is like the county government in the respects that it has a municipal home rule form of government to allow cities whose populations are over 5,000 to develop their own charter. They also have extraterritorial jurisdiction and annexation forms of government. These last two forms of government allow cities to control development and other aspects of things beyond their city limits. Many municipals (self governed cities) are divided into three separate types of governments: Mayor Council, Commission, and Council Manager. The Council Manager form is generally used in larger cities and consists of a council of five to fifteen members, elected by districts, and a mayor who is elected by the council and is responsible for multiple city managers to implement the various policies. The Mayor Council form is of similar structure to the Council Manager form except ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Solar thermal power generation technologies Solar Thermal Power systems, also known as Concentrating Solar Power systems, use concentrated solar radiation as a high temperature energy source to produce electricity using thermal route. Since the average operating temperature of stationary non concentrating collectors is low (max up to 1200C) as compared to the desirable input temperatures of heat engines (above 3000C), the concentrating collectors are used for such applications. These technologies are appropriate for applications where direct solar radiation is high. The mechanism of conversion of solar to electricity is fundamentally similar to the traditional thermal power plants except use of solar energy as source of heat. In the basic process of conversion of solar into heat energy, an incident solar irradiance is collected and concentrated by concentrating solar collectors or mirrors, and generated heat is used to heat the thermic fluids such as heat transfer oils, air or water/steam, depending on the plant design, acts as heat carrier and/or as storage media. The hot thermic fluid is used to generated steam or hot gases, which are then used to operate a heat engine. In these systems, the efficiency of the collector reduces marginally as its operating ... Narrowly speaking, it can be understood as searching online information and having online deals. But broadly speaking, if one section of shopping is finished online, it will be regarded as online shopping. What you need to learn is just to click your mouse and to wait instead of going out by foot or driving. • 11. Essay about Guide to Becoming a Jerk Guide to Becoming a Jerk Being a jerk can be fun. It gives you a feeling of dominance over others; you are more important then the rest. You are the wolf among a flock of sheep; people fear you, and therefore look up to you. Being a jerk is not hard; all you have to do is think about yourself and your own feelings, and forget that everyone else has emotions. There are various ways of achieving this perception of importance; you can put people down and belittle them, pretend you re better than everyone, or just be plain mean, unpolite, and nasty. You are yourself and no one else; you feel only your feelings and no one else s; so why should you be concerned with anyone but yourself? You are king in your own mind, and your perception is everything. If you can t be bothered to be a witty, sarcastic jerk, you can just be a regular, mean jerk. This kind of jerk is intolerant and impatient (to a higher degree than the other type of jerk), rude, and unsarcastically mean. The next time someone gives you something or does something for you, don t say thank you or show gratitude; you should even go so far as to complain about what they gave you or how they should accomplish things faster. Don t be grateful; if you are grateful, people will think that they can win your favor with good deeds; that s manipulation. While on the vigorous journey through a novel, a reader can be faced with many questions, put forth intentionally by the author, as well as ones they might conjure up for themselves. Roland Barthes says Literature is the question minus the answer. For the most part this is true, however when one is reading for leisure or the author does not portray as well as they could this statement is invalid. Nato s Justification Of The Security Council NATO s 11 week bombing campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) in March 1999 was a challenge in the history of the North Atlantic alliance. For the first time, NATO launched an armed intervention outside its borders in order to avert a humanitarian crisis (Solana 1999: 114). The bombing campaign was intended to stop Belgrade s repression of Kosovos Albanian population and to oblige the Milosevic regime to accept NATO s demands regarding the future political status of Kosovo (Wippman 2001: 129). NATO s decision to intervene in Kosovo without the authorization of the Security Council raised doubts in the international arena among human rights activists about the legitimacy of the operation. This essay will argue that NATO s intervention in Kosovo was legitimate because it was both legal and just. In so doing, this essay will start by carefully reading the U.N. Charter provisions that permit the use of force on limited grounds in order to set the legal conditions for intervention (Mertus 2000: 1751). NATO s legitimacy in Kosovo will be scrutinized focusing on the emerging body of international law, which permits intervention for humanitarian purposes. Likewise, a just war analysis will be applied to examine the morality of the decision to wage war, and the morality of the means and methods by which the war was conducted (Schroeder 2004: 180). What s more, the depiction of Jerusalem in the biblical texts justifies the presence of these characteristics in this pivotal space for three major religions; God s high recognition of Jerusalem and people s entrenched belief that Godis in the city and therefore their fearlessness against any potential disaster as shown in the Bibleillustrates the uniqueness and thus the differentiated ness of this city; the downfall of the city conforms to Tweed s statement, [spaces] change over time , or the kinetic nature of religious spaces; the monetary cost and artistic precision necessary for building the First Temple, which alludes to the economic and cultural strengths of the area, elaborates on the interrelated feature of the religious spaces. Tweed states in the article that religious spaces are differentiated in that they are more or less special , singular , or set apart . (Tweed 2011:119). Essay on Parthenon and Lincoln Memorial Adam 1 Jean Luc Adam Mr. Viarengo Period 6 29 October 2012 As many people know, the architects of many buildings have used a multitude of techniques and methods from ancient architecture to build newer buildings. For example, the Capitol Building uses Greek and Roman architecture in its columns, while the Washington Monument is in the style of an Egyptian Obelisk. One of the monuments, the Lincoln Memorial, is based off the styles and methods of the Architecture of the Parthenon. In Ancient Greece, the Greeks widely believed in Gods and Goddesses such as Zeus, Poseidon, Aphrodite, and Athena. The patron Goddess of Athena was Athens, and the Athenians believed that pleasing their patron Goddess would give them good luck and fortune. This may be one of the reasons that Athena Parthenos and the Parthenon were built. Another believed reason that the Parthenon was built was that the leader at the time, Pericles, wanted to show the power and wealth of Athens. In comparison, the Lincoln Memorial was built to honor the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. One of the reasons that Bacon had for basing the memorial on the Parthenon was to draw a parallel between the two governments What better way existed to remember a man who struggled to defend democracy, than to model his tribute after one found in the birthplace of democracy? • 33. Analyzing And Evaluation Modern Biographies About El Cid Analyzing and Evaluation Modern Biographies about El Cid Modern biographies are often looked at by others as a reputable source of information when it comes to their subject of interest being hundreds of years old. Maybe it is because people today tend to believe whatever they are told or perhaps they see the title Dr. or professor pop up on the screen and put all of their trust in whatever that person is saying. However, that s exactly the problem, whoever is holding the title of Dr. or professor is as equal a person like you or me, and sometimes we forget to hold them susceptible to error. With that said, when analyzing and evaluating the modern biographies of El Cid one has to remember that whoever is stating these facts has only ever studied or read the same information myself and a regular Joe Schmo could have read and studied. They are not privy to any information that can be proven true by Rodrigo DГaz de Vivar himself, as they cannot time travel back to medieval times and ask him to answer all of their questions. Because the people who created these modern biographies, only had the sources that were written on El Cid thousands of years ago to base their stories on, one has to question the validity of these modern biographies and how much they are willing to trust these sources just as they had to do the same for the written historical sources. It not only freed slaves from slavery, but it was the beginning of a whole new world. Though racism and segregation was still an issue, African Americans were no longer anyone s property. How it all started On November 16, 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the sixteenth president of the United States. He was the first president of the Republican Party. Lincoln was never a fan of slavery . He believed that If slavery were not wrong then nothing were wrong. The big issue he saw since he was a young lawyer was that the constitution protected slavery. Why Enron Became A Middle Man Company With the changing of the economy in the late 1990s, as the old millennium was ending and the new one beginning, one particular company discovered a new way to rise to the top in the trading business. Enron, originally known as a natural gas pipeline company [started by Kenneth Lay in 1985], soon became known as an energy trading corporation that bought and sold gas as well as electricity. (Fox, 1). With over 20,000 employees and 40 worldwide businesses, The Houston, TX Corporation soon became a prodigy of the times. Originally it made its profit by promising to deliver a particular amount of gas to certain businesses at market price on particular days. (O Harrow Jr.). Soon, Enronbecame a middle man company, placing it between buyers and sellers and making money off of the difference between the selling and buying prices. Their books were kept closed to each opposing party, making Enron the only one to know both prices. (O Harrow Jr.). After entering many complex and intense contracts, the corporation entered into business with Arthur Andersen, an accounting firm who handled Enron s auditing. (Fox, 6). A look back to Britain in the late 1700s shows the start of the Industrial Revolution, a time of shifting from man power to machines, and improvements in transportation, as well as increased volume and variety of manufactured goods. In the midst of all this change, two men took their own views and shared them with the world. Adam Smith and Karl Marx argued on their thoughts about capitalism and what kind of world it created, the origins of the Industrial Revolution, and the influences of division of labour. Many of those thoughts were based upon similarities in each point, but Smith had more of an economic view in the way of national wealth, while Marx held a social view for personal wealth of individuals. In doing so, speech patterns may be dependent upon the audience being addresses and by how concerned a candidate is with winning that group s approval. Analysis would involve deep looks into the speeches and transcribing of speech patterns. Such patterns may include changes in tone and pitch, hand gestures, selective vocabulary, etc. These processes are similar across the board as all of these questions would require the same looks into my data. To hypothesize, based on previous work in this course, I believe that the results will show a deliberate change of speech with Barack Obama s speeches. In order to gain votes from the people, one must pretend to be among the people. Significance Politicians compete every year for some level of power and authority. Voters grant such authority through a democratic system of elections. Simply, elections are popularity contest as voters look for the person who embodies the values they hold dear. Emerson argues that it is not only possible to successfully defy the common practices and beliefs of society, but that to be great is to be misunderstood (Emerson 367). However, Thoreau believes that in a democracy the voice of the people as whole should be followed. Thoreau desires a better government , not anarchy devoid of the law where every individual follows his own set of rules (Thoreau 381). This paper will discuss, the violation of the statutory language regarding assessment based on IDEA, the strategies and goals of a remediation, staff training, common Core and PARCC assessment, and funding for the remediation plan under IDEA. With high stakes testing, it requires, states to use accommodation and alternative testing in order to allow states not to exclude students with special needs from taking any of the state s test. • 51. End Of Life Care Observation What I have observed is that more attention and support is given when the patient has family members who come and surround the patient during the patient last moment of life. Staff allows family members to have their privacy with the dying patient because is needed for the family to have that precious moment with their loved one. However, the goal should be to ask family members if they need that privacy or want staff involvement. However, attention and support are still provided when needed. With that said, family support can influence how much support or attention is given during a patient last moment of life. The trend I have seen throughout my healthcare experience in regards to end of life care is that patients with chronic debilitating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Who Is The Hero Of The Hobbit 1.Who is the hero of The Hobbit? J.R.R Tolkien s The Hobbit or There and Back Again implements many forms of heroism; whether it be Bilbo, Bard, Gandalf, or even Thorin and his dwarves. Relating to this, there is no one hero per se but rather multiple; the heroes face both internal and external challenges. This essay will argue that the heroes of The Hobbit are Bilbo, Gandalf, Bard and Thorin respectively, in addition, this essay will also analyse the first stage of the hero s journey structure according to Joseph Campbell regarding Bilbo. Firstly, the main protagonist Bilbo Baggins sets a benchmark to the notion of an archetype hero. Kennedy, Gioia and Bauerlein describe an archetype as a recurring symbol, character, landscape, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as Campbell notes, the figure encounters a series of dangers, in this case being the trolls, the goblins, escaping from Gollum and going into Smaug s lair. With assistance from Gandalf the group is saved from the goblins; however, the dwarves and Bilbo are separated. The interaction between Gollum and Bilbo demonstrates a quality trait exhibited by a hero and, as a result, Bilbo s actions are seen to outweigh his individual characteristics. Simultaneously, Bilbo displays wisdom in answering Gollum s riddles and in turn exhibits cunning; Bilbo seeing what had happened and having nothing better to ask stuck to his question (74). In the same way, Bilbo s adventure is seen according to Pearce as a pilgrimage of grace in which he grows up (3). Therefore, Bilbo s main goal of his adventure according to Pearce is to eliminate evil amongst themselves (3); thus, identifying an internal quest. Particularly after Smaug s death, the corruption of the gold leads the dwarf leader Thorin Oakenshield to suffer from dragon sickness; the obsessive possessiveness of dragons (Pearce 83). The actions of Bilbo and internal qualities such as wisdom and cunning thus concludes that he is a hero in The Hobbit, however, other characters exhibit heroic qualities. Gandalf henceforth can also be depicted as the hero of the story, heroism therefore can be determined by actions. Moreover, his role as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Self Actualization and Self Realization Are Different By Arthur Thomas Ware | Submitted On July 07, 2014 Recommend Article Article Comments Print Article Share this article on Facebook Share this article on Twitter Share this article on Google+ Share this article on Linkedin Share this article on StumbleUpon Share this article on Delicious Share this article on Digg Share this article on Reddit Share this article on Pinterest In that classic old movie, Papillon, starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman, there is a particular phrase that stays in my mind. It occurs when McQueen, playing Papillon, is in solitary confinement and is obviously on the point of dying. He goes into a sort of coma and starts seeing friends of his who are now dead. Then an authoritarian sounding voice says, I accuse you of a wasted life. It is on this subject that I write this particular essay. Many of us of heard of Abraham Maslow s Pyramid of Human Needs. We know a little about the basic needs of food, shelter, et cetera. We know of feelings of belonging and self esteem. We also know of self actualization, though there is often confusion between self actualization and self realization. So I d like to explain a little about the difference here. Self Actualization Self actualization refers to becoming as much as we can in the practical pragmatic scheme of affairs. It refers to developing our talents, our skills, in educating ourselves to the best of our ability, being the best we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Benefits Of Imminent Domain America is renowned for the honorable rights that she gives her people and it is commonplace to hear her referred to as the land of the free . The United States Supreme Court, however, has recently decided to take this land away from the free in a daft decision that gave the government the power to demolish family homes in the name of public use under the Constitution s Fifth Amendment. This decision should not have been made and has rightfully angered citizens across the country. The act of eminent domain has traditionally been interpreted as a way to build public roads, schools, and courthouses. Local governments, however, have been invoking these two words for far less principled reasons such as building new shopping malls or new more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Sinister Fruitiness Essay Peter Kuzmin Michael Johnstone/ Christine Choi ENG237H1 November 5, 2014 Technology as a Gender Deconstructing Tool in Postmodern Neuromancer As we continue our march through the technological age, it is easy to see how technologies have affected all parts of our day to day lives. In Sinister Fruitiness, Stevens writes about how pervasive technologies have changed human existence in developed countries. Written in the mid 90s, before the real surge of internet and digital innovation, Stevens was already commenting on how people had begun to align their circadian rhythms so that their days gave them convenient windows to log in and check their e mails (414). Socializing has changed as the imbrication of physical and digital realities continues to intensify. Our body language skills continue to erode in an age of remote interaction, where people are accustomed to documenting and narrating their lives for on line friends, many of whom we ve never met (414). In Neuromancer, Gibson portrays a technology rich cyberpunk world whose synthesis of computer science and biology seems predictive of our current social direction. In Gibson s world, technological progress has had a significant effect on gender norms, as genderless cyber space and cyborg body transformations muddle the basic biological distinctions between man and woman. As part of a postmodern commentary, Gibson uses technology as a gender deconstructing tool, highlighting present day patriarchal gender ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Descriptive Essay On A Lucid Dream Connected Alexis tastes the salty breeze around her as she begins to open her eyes, but all she can feel is her eyes drooping back down. She tries to pull up her fluffy pink blanket, that she received on her birthday the previous week before. There is nothing there when she reaches for it. Alexis rubs her eyes and repeatedly blinks, she sees water. Wide awake now, she stands up and gasps. In front of her is the crystal clear, coral blue ocean. Immediately her jaw drops she is in shock, she has no clue where she is or how she got there. Bright green palm trees and the baby blue sky surrounds her. She brushes off the sticky sand on her pale legs and arms. The first thing that comes to her mind is if she is in another lucid dream. She reacts by pinching herself continuously. Nothing. Alexis, now hyperventilating, paces around in circles with her hands on her forehead. She then calms herself down and follows the rhythmic sound of a smooth waterfall. On the way there she observes majestic birds flying towards the towering trees. In the short time period Alexis walks, she sees every single kind of exotic flower. She feels the warm sun rays shining down her back as she sprints towards the waterfall. She expects mermaids to pop out of the water as she rests her bare feet in the water. She enjoys the giant pool filled with ice cold water as that is the only things she s familiar with. While washing her face and hair, out of the corner of her eyes, she sees a trail. As she hikes up the trail she notices that it is man made. Alexis continues following path, she listens to the sounds of footprints and heavy breathy. She has the impression that someone is watching her. Out of nature, she sprints. She has an immense burst of strange energy, and not the good kind, a negative spirit. I lost them for sure , Alexis murmurs to herself as she slows down. The trail pauses in front of wood stairs with detailed designs on the railing. She looks up so high that her neck is in risk of breaking. She spots a breathtaking treehouse, made of dark wood blending in with the trees around it. Mesmerized by the sight she runs up the steep, sturdy stairs. As she reaches the edge of the porch, she cautiously looks through the window. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Symbolism By Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter Symbolism; the use of symbols to represent something abstract by something concrete. It can be powerful in a novel when used correctly. Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter is a prime example of Symbolism being used creatively in a work. This is what Hyatt H. Waggoner has to say about the Hawthornes creativity. But in between the surface and the depths movement is constant and complex, and it is in this middle that the principal value of the work lies. (Waggoner 73)What Waggoner is talking about is the Symbolism that is used by Hawthorne. Hawthorne s symbolism is complex and creative. When symbolism is used there must always be symbols. Symbols can take many forms and three of these forms are, places, things, and people. Hawthorne uses these forms of symbols in his novel. The three symbols I will highlight are; the scaffold, the scarlet letterand Reverend Dimmesdale. To give background, The Scarlet Letter takes place in colonial Boston where the separation of church and state is not yet in place. Hester Prynneis a normal puritan woman and is sentenced to wear a scarlet letter A on her bosom for the remainder of her life. This is because she was sentenced with adultery after having sexual relations with Reverend Dimmesdale, while being married to her husband, Roger Chillingworth. Hester Prynne will not tell Roger Chillingworth who she had relations with, but he is determined to find Hester Prynne s lover. Later in the story, Reverend Dimmesdale becomes ill and Roger ...
