ePortfolios were piloted to deliver project-based research training. Manual project tracking dominated program communications, adding little to learning engagement. ePortfolios reduced email traffic for the current cohort, projected to be significantly less compared to the previous cohort (p=.02 using an unpaired t-test, eliminating one outlier and p=.68 when including outlier), strengthening the case for eportfolio adoption in more clinical and translational research training programs.
Session Description
The Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research (MICHR) piloted Foliotek ePortfolios for 9 scholars in the Master of Science in Clinical Research (MSCR) program. Engaged training is achieved through a mentored research project that lasts through the one year duration of the MSCR program. ePortfolios were piloted in this course to deliver and support project-based learning.
Mentored projects warrant regular monitoring for timely intervention. Manual project tracking dominated program-scholar communications, which added little learning value. Foliotek eportfolios automated reporting on project milestones and deliverables. This allowed learners and the program manager to engage in creative problem solving, as opposed to chasing status updates. This pilot lays the groundwork for introducing eportfolios in other MICHR programs that use high impact practices to train future clinical and translational researchers.

Abstract
ePortfolios were piloted to deliver project-based research training. Manual project tracking dominated program communications, adding little to learning engagement. ePortfolios reduced email traffic for the current cohort, projected to be significantly less compared to the previous cohort (p=.02 using an unpaired t-test, eliminating one outlier and p=.68 when including outlier), strengthening the case for eportfolio adoption in more clinical and translational research training programs.
Session Description
The Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research (MICHR) piloted Foliotek ePortfolios for 9 scholars in the Master of Science in Clinical Research (MSCR) program. Engaged training is achieved through a mentored research project that lasts through the one year duration of the MSCR program. ePortfolios were piloted in this course to deliver and support project-based learning.
Mentored projects warrant regular monitoring for timely intervention. Manual project tracking dominated program-scholar communications, which added little learning value. Foliotek eportfolios automated reporting on project milestones and deliverables. This allowed learners and the program manager to engage in creative problem solving, as opposed to chasing status updates. This pilot lays the groundwork for introducing eportfolios in other MICHR programs that use high impact practices to train future clinical and translational researchers.

Introduction:
We began the course discussing what John Berger calls “ways of seeing.” Sontag, Mitchell, and Clarke all appear to pick up from where Berger ends his essay and look at what Berger calls “the new language of images” (116). Berger’s prediction or assessment that there is this new “language of images” seems to have come true according to Sontag, Clarke, and Mitchell as they examine what it is, how it operates, and what problems and challenges this new language presents. Berger expresses interest in this new language of images as he says, “Within it we could begin to define our experiences more precisely in areas where words are inadequate. (Seeing comes before words.)” (116). He is concerned, however, with who will control this new language or these images identifying this with power saying, ”If the new language of images were used differently, it would through its use, confer a new kind of power” (116).
Sontag, Mitchell, and Clarke also see the creation and use of images as a form of power and ask questions about what form this power takes, who or what has or exercises this power, and over what or whom is this power practiced. Sontag goes so far as to suggest that photography, the principle medium through which most of us experience images, has taught us a new way of being in the world as it “changes the terms of confinement in the cave, our world” (3). She also argues “In teaching us a new visual code, photographs alter and enlarge our notions of what is worth looking at and what we have a right to observe” (3). Mitchell refers to images’ “potency” and describes “the ancient superstitions about images” which claims “they make people do irrational things, that they are potentially destructive forces that seduce and lead us astray” and says we still believe these things despite claiming that we don’t (19). Like Sontag, he is concerned with what she describes as “what is worth looking at and what we have a right to observe” and he argues “we still have to ask what it is about images that gives them su.

Teleconferencing adds to the verbal messaging mix. Special events encourage employee involvement and help boost morale.
Written messages include memos, both traditional forms and the modern hybrid formats widely used today, inter- and intradepartmental email, blogs, company newsletters and handbooks containing policy, procedures and codes of conduct and dress
Employee morale relates to feelings of importance and job satisfaction, and depends on communicating frequently and honestly with your workers

The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing.
