Pollution
When harmful substances contaminate the
environment, is called pollution.
Pollution refers to bad condition of environment
In terms of quality or quantity.
Types of Pollution
There are five types of pollution
 Air pollution
 Water pollution
 Noise pollution
 Land pollution
 Radioactive pollution
Air Pollution
Air pollution can be defined as the presence of
toxic Chemicals or compound in the air, at level
pose the health risk.
Causes of Air Pollution
Major sources of air pollution
 Industries
 Automobiles and domestic fuels
 High percentage of Undiserable gases such as carbon
dioxide,sulphur dioxide
 Dust ( cement dust, Foundary dust, windblown solid dust)
 Mist
 Smoke
 Black carbon
Effects of Air Pollution
Air pollution affects ?
 Human health
 Animal
 Plants
 Global warming
 Ozone layer depletion
 Acid rain
 Various respiratory problems
How to avoid air pollution
 Use of natural gases like CNG,LPG.
 Do not burst crackers
 Use less amount of fuels for vehicles
 Use government vehicles
 Use electric stoves
Water Pollution
Any physical (Temperature,oxygen),Chemical Or
biological Change to water that adversely affectes
It’s use by a live beings.
Causes of water pollution
 About 40% of deaths worldwide are caused by water
pollution
 Water pollution is caused by organic and inorganic
Industrial waste and effluent discharged into rivers.
Effects of water pollution
• Diseases like cholera
• Typhoid ( spread during rainy season)
• Aquatic life gets destroyed
How to avoid water pollution
 Rivers should not be used for washing clothes and
bathing animals
 Rainwater harvesting to meet water requirments
 Dams and embackments Must be created
 The rivers must not be contaminated
Noise Pollution
 Noise can be simply defined by unwanted sound.
 The Sound is pleasant or not depends Upon its
Loudness,rhythm,Duration,and mood of person.
 Noise level:
1. Intensity
2. Frequency
3. Period of exposure
4. Duration
Causes of noise pollution
 Traffic noise
 Aircraft noise
 Noise From Construction And civil engineering works
 Noise from industries
 Noise of fire crackers
 Noise of sound systems
Effects of noise pollution
 Hearing loss.
 High blood pressure.
 Stress
 Sleep Disturbance.
 Colour blindness.
How to avoid noise pollution
 The government Should ensure that The new machines
that should be noise proof.
 Airport must be away from the residential area.
 The Sound horn Symbol Is to be in school roads.
 Isolation or Use of Barrels.
