POLLUTION
• When Harmful Substances Contaminate the Environment it is
Called Pollution.
• There are Five types
of Pollution
• Air Pollution
• WaterPollution
• Noise Pollution
• Land Pollution
• RadioActive
Pollution
Types of Pollution
Air pollution
Air pollution is the contamination of air due to the presence of
substances in the atmosphere that are harmful to the health of
humans and other living beings, or cause damage to the
climate or to materials.
Causes of Air Pollution
Major sources of Air Pollution
• Industry & Heating
• Automobiles and Domestic fuels
• Wood smoke
• Acid rain containing high Proportion of Sulphur dioxide
and sulfur dioxide
• Greenhouse gases by carbon dioxide and methane
• Ozone layer, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)
Effects of Air Pollution
• Air Pollution affects???
• Human health
• Animals
• Plants
• The atmosphere as a whole
• Acid rain effects
• Greenhouse effect , Global warming
How to Avoid Air Pollution
• Yes, we can avoid pollution As Follows
• Use natural Gases, like LPG
autos
• Do not Burst Crackers
• Reduction of forest fires and
smoking
• Use filters for chimneys
• Implement Afforestation
Water
Pollution
• The Contamination of water with undesirable
substances which make it unfit for usage is
termed water Pollution.
Causes of Water Pollution
• Water Pollution is Caused by organic and inorganic
industrial wastes and affluents discharged into rivers.
• Acid mine drainage (AMD)
• Agricultural practices
• Sewage and wastewater discharge
• Petroleum seeps (Coal Oil Point Seep)
Effects of Water Pollution
• Diseases like Cholera
• Malaria
• Typhoid (spread during the rainy season )
• Aquatic life gets destroyed
• About 40% of Deaths worldwide are caused by Water Pollution.
How to Avoid Water Pollution
• Rivers should not be used for washing clothes or bathing
animals in.
• Harvesting of Rainwater to meet water requirements.
• Dams &embankments must be created.
• The rivers must not be contaminated.
• In sacred river like Ganga the dead bodies shouldn’t thrown.
NOISE POLLUTION
• Noise can be simply defined
as unwanted sound.
• Sound becomes undesirable
when it disturbs the normal
activities such as working,
sleeping, and during
conversations.
Causes of Noise Pollution
• Traffic Noise
• Air craft Noise
• Noise from construction and civil engineering works.
• Noise from the Industries.
• Noise from other sources.
Effects of Noise Pollution
• Hearing Loss
• High Blood Pressure
• Stress
• Sleep Disturbance
How to Avoid Noise Pollution
• The Government should ensure the new machines that
Should be noise proof.
• Air ports must be away from residential area.
• Planting bushes and trees in and around sound generating
sources
Thank You

Editor's Notes

  • #4 Pollution refers to the very bad condition of environment in terms of quantity and quality .
  • #8 In 1984, an accident at a pesticide plant in Bhopal, India, released a deadly gas into the air. At least 8,000 people died within days. Hundreds of thousands more were permanently injured.
