Environment Promotion Organization
An environmental management promotion organization is in place, covering the
entire Hitachi High Technologies Group, for the purpose of strengthening
environmental management and promoting efficient environmental activities.
Each Group company has been divided their business into 3 blocks according to the
type of business; namely, sales, manufacturing, and services, to promote efficient
environmental activities.
The Environmental Strategy Manager for the entire Group oversees all of the
Group’s environmental activities, and has appointed an Environment Promotion
Manager for each block, as well as setting up an environmental management
organization and establishing an action policy, etc., for each block.
The purpose of the Environment Committee is to conduct operational
management and improvement, and to minimize environmental risks and risks
related to chemical substances contained in products.
Thorough Response to Global
Environmental Risk and Compliance
Issues
We work toward compliance by dividing domestic divisions and group companies, including
those located overseas, into business blocks, and creating internal standards for each
company that are more stringent than the regulations in that country or region. In addition,
we endeavor to prevent environmental accidents by identifying latent environmental risks
and checking our compliance with environmental legislation through reciprocal
environmental audits.
In particular, with regard to risk management for products dealt by overseas group
companies, we are working to increase the accuracy of information that is produced
and shared, and to reduce risk through the Global Environmental Management
Subcommittee, which is a corporate function. Similarly, at manufacturing sites, we
conduct periodic provision of information, on-site instruction, and auditing with
regard to legislation management through the Production Group Subcommittee and
the Environmental Strategy Subcommittee.
Every day, decisions are made at the local, state and national
levels that affect the health and safety of the water we drink, the food
we eat and the air we breathe. The Conservancy works with
government officials and partners to support public policies that
protect our lands and waters so the next generations of Pilipinos can
build, secure and rewarding lives.
Global environmental conservation is an important issue
shared by all humanity, and the HCM Group is working on the
actualization of a sustainable society which exists in harmony with the
environment as a top management priority. Following legal regulations
goes without saying, but we also consider communication with our
stockholders to be crucial, and take part in regular disclosure of
information and active communication.
Action Guidelines
1. Global environmental conservation is a critical challenge shared by all humans. Hitachi
High-Technologies Corporation is committed, therefore, to fulfilling its responsibilities by
assisting in the realization of an environmentally harmonious and sustainable society as one
of its management priorities.
2. Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation will make efforts to contribute to society by
developing highly reliable technologies and production processes, while identifying needs
considering concerns related to the prevention of global warming, cyclical use of resources,
and conservation of biodiversity.
3. Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation will promote globally-applicable "MONOZUKURI"
with the aim of understanding and reducing environmental burdens not only at every stage,
including product research and development, design, procurement, production, distribution,
sales, usage and final disposal, but also in handling other companies’ products.
4. Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation will investigate and review the environmental
impact caused in the course of its "MONOZUKURI" processes. Hitachi High-Technologies
Corporation will also introduce excellent technologies and materials useful to safeguard the
environment.
In other words, to reduce environmental burdens through energy and resource saving,
chemical substance management, recycling, consideration for the ecosystem, and other
measures.
5. Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation’s environmental conservation efforts are not only
to be focused on observing international environmental regulations and those of national and
local governments, but also on conserving the environment by implementing voluntary
environmental standards when necessary.
6. Regarding globally-applicable "MONOZUKURI" activities, impact on the local
environment and community are to be considered. In addition, measures that meet local
communities’ requests should be implemented.
7. Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation will educate its employees to take action in order
to obey environment-related laws, raise their global environmental awareness, and encourage
their interest in environmental conservation having wide-view about society activities.
We promote actions to realize design,
construction, and management in consideration for environmental conservation based
on investigation of environment, prediction and evaluation of the influence on
environment, and needs of the water users.
We make effort for resource saving, energy
saving, and recycling to reduce the environmental load
Protection and preservation
Tourism can significantly contribute to environmental protection, conservation and
restoration of biological diversity and sustainable use of natural resources. Because of their
attractiveness, pristine sites and natural areas are identified as valuable and the need to keep
the attraction alive can lead to creation of national parks and wildlife parks.
Regulatory measures
Regulatory measures help offset negative impacts; for instance, controls on the number of tourist
activities and movement of visitors within protected areas can limit impacts on the ecosystem and help
maintain the integrity and vitality of the site. Such limits can also reduce the negative impacts on
resources.
Limits should be established after an in-depth analysis of the maximum sustainable visitor capacity.
This strategy is being used in the Galapagos Islands, where the number of ships allowed to cruise this
remote archipelago is limited, and only designated islands can be visited, ensuring visitors have little
impact on the sensitive environment and animal habitats.
Environmental awareness raising
Tourism has the potential to increase public appreciation of the environment and to spread
awareness of environmental problems when it brings people into closer contact with nature
and the environment. This confrontation may heighten awareness of the value of nature and
lead to environmentally conscious behavior and activities to preserve the environment. For
instance, Honduran schoolchildren from the capital city of Tegucigalpa are routinely taken to
visit La Tigra cloud forest visitor center, funded in part by eco-tourist dollars, to learn about
the intricacies of the rainforest.
If it is to be sustainable in the long run, tourism must incorporate the principles and
practices of sustainable consumption. Sustainable consumption includes building consumer
demand for products that have been made using cleaner production techniques, and for
services - including tourism services - that are provided in a way that minimizes
environmental impacts.
Improved environmental management and planning
Sound environmental management of tourism facilities and especially hotels can increase the
benefits to natural areas. But this requires careful planning for controlled development,
based on analysis of the environmental resources of the area. Planning helps to make
choices between conflicting uses, or to find ways to make them compatible. By planning
early for tourism development, damaging and expensive mistakes can be prevented, avoiding
the gradual deterioration of environmental assets significant to tourism.
Action Guidelines for Environmental
Conservation
1. Global environmental conservation is a critical challenge shared by all
humans. We are committed, therefore, to fulfilling our responsibilities by
assisting in the realization of an environmentally harmonious and
sustainable society as one of our management priorities.
2. We will make efforts to contribute to society by developing highly
reliable technologies and production processes while accurately
understanding the needs related to the prevention of global warming,
conservation of resources, and preservation of the ecosystem.
3. Members of the board in charge of environmental conservation are
responsible for facilitating appropriate environmental conservation
activities.
Departments responsible for environmental conservation should endeavor
to promote and ensure environmental conservation activities, including
improving environment related rules and regulations and setting goals for
environmental burden reduction. These departments should also confirm
that their environmental conservation activities are conducted in a proper
manner and ensure that these activities are maintained and improved.
4. We will promote globally applicable business activities with the aim of understanding and
reducing environmental burdens at every stage, including product research and development,
design, production, distribution, usage, and final disposal.
5. We will investigate and review the environmental impact caused in the course of our
business processes. We will also introduce excellent technologies and materials useful to
safeguard the environment, in other words, to reduce environmental burdens through energy
and resource saving, recycling, chemical substance management, consideration for the
ecosystem, and other measures.
6. Our environmental conservation efforts are not only to be focused on observing
international environmental regulations and those of national and local governments,
but also on conserving the environment by implementing voluntary environmental
standards when necessary.
7. Regarding globally-applicable business activities, impact on the local environment
and community are to be considered. In addition, measures that meet local
communities’ requests should be implemented.
8. We will educate our employees to take action in order to obey environment-
related laws, raise their global environmental awareness, look upon society from a
wide point of view, and from a broad vantage point encourage their interest in
environmental conservation.
9. We will evaluate potential environmental problems and prevent them from
occurring. In the event that any environmental problem occurs, we will take
appropriate measures to minimize the environmental burden.
10. We will make efforts to disclose information on our environmental conservation
activities to our relevant stakeholders. We will also actively communicate with these
stakeholders so as to strengthen mutual understanding and forge cooperative
relationships with them.

Thorough Response to Global Environmental Risk and Compliance Issues We work toward compliance by dividing domestic divisions and group companies, including those located overseas, into business blocks, and creating internal standards for each company that are more stringent than the regulations in that country or region. In addition, we endeavor to prevent environmental accidents by identifying latent environmental risks and checking our compliance with environmental legislation through reciprocal environmental audits.
  • 5. In particular, with regard to risk management for products dealt by overseas group companies, we are working to increase the accuracy of information that is produced and shared, and to reduce risk through the Global Environmental Management Subcommittee, which is a corporate function. Similarly, at manufacturing sites, we conduct periodic provision of information, on-site instruction, and auditing with regard to legislation management through the Production Group Subcommittee and the Environmental Strategy Subcommittee.
  • 6. Every day, decisions are made at the local, state and national levels that affect the health and safety of the water we drink, the food we eat and the air we breathe. The Conservancy works with government officials and partners to support public policies that protect our lands and waters so the next generations of Pilipinos can build, secure and rewarding lives.
  • 7. Global environmental conservation is an important issue shared by all humanity, and the HCM Group is working on the actualization of a sustainable society which exists in harmony with the environment as a top management priority. Following legal regulations goes without saying, but we also consider communication with our stockholders to be crucial, and take part in regular disclosure of information and active communication.

We make effort for resource saving, energy saving, and recycling to reduce the environmental load
  • 13. Protection and preservation Tourism can significantly contribute to environmental protection, conservation and restoration of biological diversity and sustainable use of natural resources. Because of their attractiveness, pristine sites and natural areas are identified as valuable and the need to keep the attraction alive can lead to creation of national parks and wildlife parks.
  • 14. Regulatory measures Regulatory measures help offset negative impacts; for instance, controls on the number of tourist activities and movement of visitors within protected areas can limit impacts on the ecosystem and help maintain the integrity and vitality of the site. Such limits can also reduce the negative impacts on resources. Limits should be established after an in-depth analysis of the maximum sustainable visitor capacity. This strategy is being used in the Galapagos Islands, where the number of ships allowed to cruise this remote archipelago is limited, and only designated islands can be visited, ensuring visitors have little impact on the sensitive environment and animal habitats.
  • 15. Environmental awareness raising Tourism has the potential to increase public appreciation of the environment and to spread awareness of environmental problems when it brings people into closer contact with nature and the environment. This confrontation may heighten awareness of the value of nature and lead to environmentally conscious behavior and activities to preserve the environment. For instance, Honduran schoolchildren from the capital city of Tegucigalpa are routinely taken to visit La Tigra cloud forest visitor center, funded in part by eco-tourist dollars, to learn about the intricacies of the rainforest.
  • 16. If it is to be sustainable in the long run, tourism must incorporate the principles and practices of sustainable consumption. Sustainable consumption includes building consumer demand for products that have been made using cleaner production techniques, and for services - including tourism services - that are provided in a way that minimizes environmental impacts.
  • 17. Improved environmental management and planning Sound environmental management of tourism facilities and especially hotels can increase the benefits to natural areas. But this requires careful planning for controlled development, based on analysis of the environmental resources of the area. Planning helps to make choices between conflicting uses, or to find ways to make them compatible. By planning early for tourism development, damaging and expensive mistakes can be prevented, avoiding the gradual deterioration of environmental assets significant to tourism.
