2. Details of Progress
A. Current efforts and progress in producing, procuring and/or utilizing sustainable palm oil
Agro Bukit has developed and implemented corporate policies on Wildlife Protection and Fire
Prevention and Management. Also, the company has adopted a framework for Corporate Social
Responsibility programs and initiatives in implementing sustainable plantation practices.
Corporate Policy: WILDLIFE PROTECTION
• Agro Bukit recognizes that caring for the environment and protection of endangered wildlife
are an integral part of our corporate values.
• We aim to protect and preserve biodiversity by adopting environmentally friendly practices
in plantation development and management
Corporate Policy: WILD FIRE PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT
• Wild fire suppression through reduction of number of preventable fires.
• Co-ordinate and integrate fire prevention and control activities with local fire agencies.
• Fire outbreaks shall be immediately notified to all relevant government authorities.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Framework:
1. Implementation of community development programs towards improvement of quality of life
and building a self-reliant community. Programs to focus on education advancement, health
and sanitary improvement, improvement of public infrastructure and facilities, socio-
economic development and livelihood programs, socio-cultural: preservation of local
heritage and positive indigenous culture.
2. Proactively build mutual relations, partnerships with and supports from government
institutions, community groups, NGOs, media and general public.
3. Integrating employee and community services through the extension of facilities provided to
the company’s employees to the local community & build the infrastructure to provide
essential utilities that will up-lift living standards & create a progressive bond between the
company & community.
Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) practices
– Zero burning techniques are adopted in all land development activities
– Principle of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) planting beneficial plants and maintaining
good ground cover to ensure control of leaf eating pests
– Maintaining existing buffer zones along waterways in the plantation to promote biodiversity
and protection of waterways, streams and wetlands

B. Implementation and/or sponsorship of projects/initiatives that promote sustainable palm oil
1. PT Agro Bukit together with its sister company PT Agro Indomas organized a Community Fire
Awareness Training on June 5th
, 2008 in commemoration of the World Environmental Day.
The Fire Awareness raising exercise was attended by 300 participants from local community,
local NGOs, and local government. Training was provided for a total of 88 participants,
including 50 from local community living in the proximity of Agro Group’s plantations and 38
firemen from fire brigade of PT Agro Bukit and Agro Indomas. The event was undertaken in
cooperation with Indonesian Palm Oil Council (IPOC), Association of Malaysian Investors in
Indonesia (APIMI), Regional Forestry Nature Conservation Agency (BKSDA) and the Ministry of
Forestry’s Fire Prevention Brigade (Manggala Agni). The campaign was also supported by the
World Wildlife Fund Indonesia (WWF), Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOS), Care
International, local government fire brigade of Seruyan and Kotawaringin Timur.
2. Sponsorship of the Regional Workshop on “Implementation of Strategy and Action Plan for
Orangutan Conservation 2007-2017” held on August 12-13th
, 2008 in Palangkaraya, Central
Kalimantan organized by BKSDA Palangkaraya, BOS, WWF-Indonesia, OCSP, etc. The
workshop was attended by representatives of local governments throughout Central
Kalimantan, NGOs and community groups. It resulted in commitment and consensus of all
concerned stakeholders in advancing Orangutan conservation in Central Kalimantan and
implementation of a National Stratregy and Action Plan for Orangutan conservation.
3. Proactively participate in RSPO-related events, such as RSPO-organized meetings and
relevant workshops. This includes participation in two workshops on Free Prior and Informed
Consent (FPIC) organized by Sawitwatch and People-Forest Programme in Palangkaraya,
Central Kalimantan in May 2008 and Jayapura, Papua in August 2008.
4. Conducting environmental education for local community and students in commemoration of
the World Environmental Day in June 2008 by planting 10,000 seedlings of indigenous plants
in marginal areas in Kotawaringin Timur. The planting programs were also involved local
government officials.
5. Internal management and staff training on RSPO P&C and its implementation, which may
consequently require improvement in social as well as environmental program management
and practices in all business operations and activities.
C. Significant economic, social or environmental problems encountered in production, procurement
and/or use of sustainable palm oil and efforts made to mitigate or resolve them

D. Outlook of planned activities to promote sustainable palm oil production, promotion and/or use
in the next reporting period
We are striving to further institutionalize the RSPO’s P&C in our operations and fostering
partnership with all stakeholders towards advocating social and environmentally friendly
principles and practices. The initiatives include but not limited to:
1. Implementation of activities to ensure compliance to RSPO’s P&C
2. Training and monitoring of the implementation of RSPO’s P&Cs in all company’s operations
3. An institutional cooperation with the Ministry of Forestry (BKSDA), WWF and BOS in
development of framework for HCV management in plantation areas.
4. Public education on conservation areas within and surrounding plantations areas
5. Rehabilitation of riparian zones and degraded marginal lands within and surrounding
plantation areas
6. PT Agro Bukit is an ISO 14001 certified Company.

1. Forest Protection and Nature Conservation of the Ministry of Forestry awarded a certificate
for organizing “Community Fire Awareness and Training” on June 5th
, 2008 in Seruyan,
Central Kalimantan. The Award conferred is based on the following criteria:
a. Establishment of concerned community groups on fire control and prevention (three
villages)
b. Establishment of the company-owned Fire Brigade
2. The Ministry of Forestry’s Natural Resources Conservation Board (BKSDA) awarded certificate
of recognition to Agro Bukit for sponsorship of and participation in Orangutan conservation
workshop on August 12-13 in Palangkaraya
G. Suggestions on how the RSPO can play an active role in enhancing your organization’s
sustainability performance, particularly in relation to promoting sustainable palm oil
Enhancement of RSPO profile and exposure to the market, NGOs and other stakeholders towards
becoming a legitimate representative of sustainable palm oil industry, and to perform roles as
information center and networking facilitator.
RSPO in Indonesia should be upgraded into an authoritative and dependable entity. A decentralized
scheme in which the RSPO Office in Indonesia with a more proactive and decisive roles.
RSPO needs to raise its profile as a legitimate representative of sustainable palm oil industry before
the government of Indonesia. It is expected that RSPO can participate and engage in policy making
or at least be considered as one of key influential resources and references.
