Classification of waste
 We all know that, waste is generated by number of
activities
“ Any substance, solid, liquid or gaseous, for which no
use can be found by the organism or system that
produces it and for which a method a method must be
devised is called waste”.
Waste can be generated depends upon various factors
1. Level of economic development.
2. The standards of living
3. Industrializations and urbanization
4. The size of populations.
Different sources of solid waste
 Domestic घागुती
 Industrial and Commercial औध्योगगक आणि व्यापारी
 Clinical or Bio-medical वैद्यकीय ककिं वा जेववैद्यककय
 Agricultural शेती
 Animal प्रािी
 Nuclear अिुउजाा
 Mineral खनिजे

 Waste management is the collection transport,
processing, recycling of disposal of waste material. The
term usually relates to material produced by harm
activity, and is generally undertaken to reduce their
effect on health, aesthetics of amenity.

Effective waste management is
based on seven important
principles. The seven ‘R’ s they

Municipal solid waste management
encompasses, planning, engineering,
organization, administration, finance and
legal aspects of activities associated with
generation, storage, collection, transfer

23 metro cities in India generates about 30,000 tonnes
of waste per day and about 50,000 tonnes of waste
is generated daily from the class I cities.
3. Solid waste generation in Mumbai
As per recent survey, the quantity of municipal solid
waste generated in Mumbai was 5,355 tonnes per
day, and per capita waste generated was 0.436

Role of Citizens in waste Management
 Avoid littering in public places to keep clean your
city.
 Collect Biological degradable and non-degradable
waste in separate.
 In rural areas same waste can be used as raw
material in biogas plant.
 Waste paper of old note books, unwanted office
stationary, old newspaper etc. prepare to recycling.
 Reuse the collected plastic.
 Citizens can work to protect their house, society
building neighborhood.
