2. Meaning of Enterprise 2.0
Enterprise 2.0 refers to the concept of moving
Web 2.0 tools and
technologies into the enterprise to help
employees, partners, suppliers and customers
work together to build networks of like-minded
people and share information.”
3. WHY IT IS IMPORTANT
• They can knit together the enterprise and
facilitate knowledge work in the way that were
not possible early.
4. What employees are using
• Knowledge workers currently use
1. Channels-like email, instant messaging –
can be generated by anyone but degree of
commonality(doc) is low.
2 . platforms- intranet, web sites, company’s
portals etc.-doc is high.
5. Problems that lead to emergence of
enterprise 2.0
• When using internet or intranet, no information
was available that who was using the channel,
what new information is coming, who is doing
research on similar project etc.
7. SEARCH
• In the forrester survey it was found that less
than half of the employee were able to find what
they were looking on intranet.
• While searching on internet the study tells that
87 % percent of people were satisfied for the
things they were searching.
8. LINKS
• Intranet lacks this facility of links whereas
websites like Google take a huge advantage
because it displays the best pages which are
linked to each other
9. AUTHORING
• Many people have desire to author so,
• Blogs-helps author to author individually
• Wiki- helps in group authorship-and its
advantageous according to wiki founder jimmy
wales. And it leads to convergent and high
quality contents.
10. TAGS
• After a good search engine what is required is
categorization of the contents.
• This can be done by attaching tags that is simple
one word description.
• Eg. Flickr –for photos
• Technorati for blogs
• Del.icio.us-bookmarks
11. • Use of folksonomies
• Helps them to store all bookmarks (or
categorize)on the web itself so that it can be
accessed from anywhere.
• Best part is that we can know how many people
are using the same tag, what other tags they have
done.
12. EXTENSIONS
• They take tagging one step further by saying that
“if you like this then by extension you will like
this…”
• Example-stumbleupon.com-we can assign
thumbs up and thumsdown sign so next time
they send the users to the sites only they like.
13. SIGNALS
• What if new technology arrives.
• Bloggers use RSS(really simple syndication)
each time new contend is added(usually by
headline).
• And software like “aggregates” gets information
from various websites and puts them in order so
users just have to check headlines on their
software aggregate.
14. • So technologies today are using enterprise 2.0
using SLATES components and has simplified it
so much that a person who knows how to use
email and search on internet can use it.
15. MANAGERS ROLE
• By seeing the success of wikipedia, blogshare
and web 2.0 managers don’t have to do much.
They should follow that “if we build ,they will
come”.
16. • A receptive culture-new collaboration mainly
adopting enterprise 2.0 will lead to effectiveness
of the company.
• A common platform-Managers have to decide a
common platform for all the information to be
shared.
• An informal rollout-instead of compelling them
to use wiki and blogging software they must be
encouraged to create their own pages so that
they are able to attract the people.
17. • Managerial support-managers can simply put up
that in next meeting they have to get the
information from the wiki.so employees will
start using it and as it’s a great information
system it will be automatically marketed.
18. CHALLENGES FACED BY MANAGERS
• First ,busy knowledge workers wont use the
technology and even if they use they will just use
they wont produce the platform.
• Secondly, they can use it for other online activities.
• Enterprise 2.0 can be shutdown by the managers if
they think that contents on the portal are not
according to their likes.
