HISTORY
At first, the land of this country were occupied by
Indians as the Apache, Cherokee, Arapaho,
Cheyenne and Navajo, among others. When
Europeans arrived they founded cities like St.
Augustine (Florida) and Santa Fe (New Mexico)
and took important Texas and California.
The southern United States is made up of great
estates that served to the development of the
economy, a period that also marked by the
purchase of slaves for the maintenance and
functioning of such estates. The African population
grew considerably to reach an average of
approximately 90 000 slaves in 1769, twice the EU
population.
On July 4, 1787 the Declaration of Independence
was signed. When Abraham Lincoln was elected
president the south broke away wanting to keep
alive slavery. It was finally abolished. The US
declared war on Mexico snatching part of its
territory.
