B.A. in Modern Language
majored in English Teaching
This English Program and Language
Enhancement is designed for the
following groups, with an insight into
their workplace.
 Experience as a private Tutor since 1993, as
well as full-time teaching:
 ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching at
Mi Colegio, Saint Patrick School (Language Arts).
 ESL teaching at Instituto Cultural Dominico-
Americano [2005-2012],
 Progressive English Services since Aug 2013
Private Instructor in English teaching for
executives at private firms:
- Seguros Constitución
- RBI CG which administers English Programs
for Major League Baseball Academies (MLB);
- besides a history in teaching hotel
entrepreneurs and Free Zone Executives (i.e.
BBraun).
These Executives express the following
regarding their classes:
- confident level of satisfaction
-professionalism on behalf of the instructor
- an enhancement in their language
performance in all expected areas: language
structure and verbal and written expression.
- and finally, all learners have put into action
the lessons learned into their workplace,
meetings and written communication.
 Following a Diagnostic Test assessing
in two aspects:
◦ written group test
◦ and a second, both individual and
audiovisual assessment.
 The groups will be identified,
regardless their former contact with
the language.
1. Beginners to pre Intermediate: Beginners’
command regarding of all-4 language skills:
◦ Vocabulary (Awareness and Building)
◦ Conversation and Listening Comprehension
◦ Grammar (Structure and Mechanics)
◦ Reading Comprehension and Writing.
 This superficial command of the language limits
the speaker to start a minimum exchange and
barely operate either at a factory or an office.
2. Intermediate – Superior: characterized by
skills allowing the speaker of either
participating or conducting work meetings,
and also create and carry presentations.
 Nevertheless, this speaker lacks capability to
structure and put into use a specialized
glossary that enables them to utter complete
statements, with acceptable pronunciation.
In the Program all-4 Language Skills are
developed:
 Vocabulary and Glossary Building
 Listening Comprehension, as well as a
Conversational exchange
 Grammar (the language mechanics, which
allows the expression of whole statements)
 Reading Comprehension and Writing of
Reports and Presentations.
1. Sessions with 3 to 10 group members.
2. 2 sessions a week, with 2 hours each.
(4 hours per week; 16 hours a month, is
properly desired for a minimum contact with the language)
3. Each thematic unit, after a 16-hour module,
will conclude in a short written assessment
to evaluate the participant’s progress.
5. For the core of the classes, an globally
accepted textbook will be referenced as
used for Teaching adults.
6. For the lower level I will select World Link
2e (designed for different levels, with access to
online resources), and Market Leader for the
upper level.
7. The textbook will not be used as the sole
instructive resource. To it, these resources
will follow:
 Use of his laptop during sessions.
 Vocabulary Cards
 Picture cards, as a reference to Grammar
 Flashing Cards
 DVD as part of the referenced textbooks
 Realia in general. Realia is a compilation of
resources known in TESOL as any external
and designed tangibles, either real or an
imitation.
 Access to educational websites (TESOL-oriented).
 Handouts to be used in regular sessions.
 Quizzes (printed and/or online)
 Edited videos with educational purposes (not
lasting longer than 20 min. each) to alternate with the
regular series DVD.
 Songs from an authorized website.
 Creation of CD collections, compiling articles in
mp3 format. They are personalized to the
participants’ interests. They will be also
provided in pdf format and accessible online.
 It shall be also required from the
participants access to reference websites,
besides attendance to classes.
 It is desired the access to electronic
resources (PC, tablet) and online during the
sessions.
 There is also a regular use of Smartphones’
Applications (Apps) suggested by the
instructor for learning purposes. This shall
be under his supervision.
 Personalized attention and follow-up to
individual progress.
 Constant use of the Information Technology.
 For each unit, there will be written and online
assignments.
 The creation of a Technical Glossary shall be a
must, going accordingly to the participants’
position(s).
 Period visits from a guest teacher, as well as,
a native speaker. This indeed enriches the
classes with an additional accent.
 Musical videos, including lyrics to make
classes enjoyable along with active learning.
 Songs with a similar routing and purpose.
 Among others.
It is guaranteed an individual progress if the
participant abides to:
 Regular attendance.
 Practice assignments out of the class.
 Glossary use during sessions, and if
feasible, in the facilities.
 Follow-up to the program and Instructor’s
suggestions.
 Fair contact with language besides classes.
 At arrival, each students signs the exact time.
This is verified by the instructor.
 As well, the Instructor signs at the end of each
session.
 A proper schedule may be agreed (either
early mornings for groups or home classes, for
individuals).
 Addendum: An alternative may be a
Language Enrichment Workshop. Its
purpose is to enhance Pronunciation,
together with Conversation recreation as
well as the reinforcement of Writing. This
course may avail a weekly session, likely
for weekends.
 While private ESL institutes in this market,
dealing with adult education, charge sums
averaging , I would
only charge barely half than those institutes
average:
◦ 750.00 the hour during an agreement for the first
12 months (or 4 levels).
◦ 500.00 per visit to compensate for gas and car
maintenance.
For the company:
 A close progress is conveniently assured
 Value added with instant use
 A thankful staff with long-term commitment
 A reasonable price with proven expertise
 Among many others
Participants will not hassle with:
 Traffic jams.
 Large groups with no individual progress.
 Loops in their learning due to the previous.
 But in return, will enjoy:
 Enriched lessons with variety of teaching resources
 A comfortable learning environment
 Etc.
