This document provides a course syllabus for Language and Communication II, a 15 ECTS credit course offered at Blekinge Institute of Technology. The course aims to further develop students' English language and rhetorical skills beyond those gained in the prerequisite Language and Communication I course. Students will analyze and produce various written, oral, and digital texts to strengthen their ability to identify and develop arguments and conduct research. Coursework includes critical analysis of essays, films and digital texts, as well as the production of media using Dreamweaver and Photoshop. Students will present their work both orally and in writing to demonstrate their enhanced communication skills.

3 Objectives
The goals of this course are to further enhance
English and rhetorical skills gained in Language and
Communication 1 (EN1105). In particular, the
course will extend composition skills, critical
reading practices and oral presentation skills with
an increased emphasis on identifying and
developing arguments and conducting effective
research. The course will provide training in the
production of texts in various genres to develop
effective communication skills. Additionally,
students will learn basic computer skills in
Macromedia Dreaweaver and Adobe Photoshop .
4 Content
In the course students will produce and critically
reflect on a variety of texts and cultural artifacts to
analyze argument design. Such analysis, combined
with academic research, will help students produce
effective arguments of their own in a variety of
media forms. Students will read traditional
academic essays, discuss films, and critique digital
texts in order to identify their rhetorical properties.
Students will be given basic training in conventional
and online research practices, and they will learn
how to incorporate such research in their own
argumentative texts. To enhance the students’

grammatical skills necessary for academic writing,
classes in grammar instructions and elements of
linguistics form part of the course. In addition, the
course includes media labs in Dreamweaver and
Photoshop. Students will present their work in both
written and oral formats.
5 Aims and learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student will
extend all aims and learning outcomes outlined in
Language and Communication 1 (EN1105).
Additionally, students will:
•critically analyze and compare digital, film, and
printed texts from different cultural, theoretical, and
graphical perspectives
•produce different texts in a variety of media forms
to emphasize rhetorical arguments
•conduct and incorporate research in different texts
as evidence for arguments
•cite research sources according to MLA formats
•reflect on the writing process, both in individual
and group environments
•use Dreamweaver and Photoshop to design
rhetorically persuasive texts

7 Learning and teaching
Teaching consists of lectures, seminars, peer-group
sessions and workshops. Lectures and seminars
introduce students to rules of composition and
grammar, while peer group sessions provide
opportunities to work on assignments and texts.
Individual assignments will give opportunity for
reflection. The course also includes Dreamweaver
2. and Photoshop labs and examination,

their digital portfolio which is developed
throughout the program.
