To identify key areas in the steam generation cycle, condensate recovery system and waste heat recovery process where cost-effective instrumentation solutions offer a tangible return on investment over the short term. The goal is to reduce heat rate, environmental impact, fuel and water consumption, water treatment and maintenance costs in commercial and heavy industries where steam generation is essential to the production processes.
Design of air cooled electronic systems involves fan sizing and air moving strategy for optimal performance. This article provides some useful hand calculations that may be implemented using spreadsheet. Using the rules provided in this presentation, the engineer can select appropriate size fans that provides sufficient amount of airflow at all altitudes of operation.

A recent report from Technavio indicates that the adoption of liquid-based cooling is high, as it is considered more efficient than air-based cooling. Globally liquid-based cooling is expected to grow at a remarkable rate through 2020, posting a CAGR of almost 16% during the forecast period. So, why is this level of adoption happening? Increasing rack densities lead by high performance computing (HPC) and the quest to improve efficiency are driving an increase in liquid cooling design strategies and deployment. While still relatively sparse, liquid cooling will become more prevalent, but this does not mean the end of air cooling. In this session, we’ll discuss how to implement liquid cooling while maintaining appropriate air-cooling conditions and fully realize efficiency gains. Lastly, we’ll discuss how to get started and get ahead of the market when it comes to improving cooling efficiency.

Electronic displacer level transmitter technology operates by detecting changes in buoyancy force caused by liquid level change. These forces act upon the spring supported displacer causing vertical motion of the core within a linear variable differential transformer.
As the core position changes with liquid level, voltages are induced across the secondary windings of the LVDT. These signals are processed in the electronic circuitry and used to control the current in the 4-20 mA current loop. The enclosing tube acts as a static isolation barrier between the LVDT and the process media.
Utilization of Computer Room Cooling Infrastructure: Measurement Reveals Oppo...Upsite Technologies
Study of data centers reveals the average computer room has cooling capacity that is nearly four times the IT heat load. When running cooling capacity is excessively over-implemented, then potentially large operating cost reductions are possible by turning off cooling units and/or reducing fan speeds for units with variable frequency drives (VFD). Using data from 45 sites reviewed by Upsite Technologies, this presentation will show how you can calculate, benchmark, interpret, and benefit from a simple and practical metric called the Cooling Capacity Factor (CCF). Calculating the CCF is the quickest and easiest way to determine cooling infrastructure utilization and potential gains to be realized by AFM improvements.

Our project was to reduce the energy consumption on the air conditioning system from Jumeirah Group.
We selected the energy manager’s office to conduct the test pilot. The site location is in the Jumeirah site management offices of Burj Al ARAB, Wild Wadi & Jumeirah beach hotel (See the map below).
We conducted the test in collaboration with the Energy manager of the Jumeirah group and under the supervision of the technical director for 20 days and 24 hours per day.
For the first seven days, the AC ran without AES as a normal situation. The following other (13) days, the AES was connected to AC to control and optimize the operations.
Also, we have collected some data like the room temperature (electronic thermometer), the temperature targeted (AC), and the room temperature shown on the remote control to keep the same environmental situation during the test.
The air conditioner acclimatizes every room in the site office.
We demonstrated through this test pilot a positive achievement reaching an energy saving of 28%

CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
