The document discusses how students can obtain academic credit for internships and how interns can be responsible and measure their growth during internships. It provides checklists for students to contact their department coordinator to register for internship classes and for interns to meet with coordinators for evaluations. It also offers ways for interns to assess their learning curve like reviewing goals, examining skills developed, assessing evaluations, noting new knowledge, and collecting work samples. Developing new contacts is also presented as a way to measure growth.

during their internship?
• Interns are responsible for ensuring a successful
learning experience.
• Internship supervisors and Career Centers will
offer you assessments.
• Self-assessments are just as valuable.
14. Here are a few ways to measure the
growth of the learning curve:
• Review the goals and expectations as listed in
the pre-internship/first-day documents.
• Check off the goals met.
• Examine the assignments completed and note
the new skills developed.
• Assess internship supervisor’s final evaluation
report and
• Write down the positive comments in terms of
work ethic and attitude.
15. Measurable areas of progress
• Assess confidence and
self-esteem both
before and after the
internship
• Note any gained new
knowledge that can be
turned into a class
paper.
• If grades are given for
an internship, the
increase in GPA is
another sign of
success.
16. Work Samples
• Collect all the items—
reports, projects,
documents etc.—and
include them in a
portfolio.
• Written explanations of
the challenge and
performance in each
instance.
• The findings may be
surprising and
pleasing.
17. Developing Contacts
• Count the number of
new contacts made
during the internship
(supervisor, interns,
company personnel)
• They serve as valuable
resources when
networking for future
internships or jobs.
• Improve relations with
the Career Center
staff.
18. Revisit the Resume
• Study the resume before
and after the internship.
• Note the additional entries
that strengthen the
resume (new work
experiences,
achievements,
software/technology skills,
etc.)
• Add the details of
assignments and
accomplishments
