A female who lives in a modern society where religion, education, status, income and
nationality is diverse. Someone who likes to hang out with friends and have a good
Time doing various of activities. Enjoys listening to mostly RnB but sometimes Pop.
Likes going to concerts and performances by discovered and undiscovered artists.
Enjoys reading different RnB magazines. However she dislikes animals and insects.
2. My artists name is Shannelle Williams. She was born on the 14th December 1989 in
LA. The 25 year old later moved to New York, Queens to start her music career.
Shannelle’s style of music genre is RnB. Her mother is a seamstress and her father is a
lawyer. She learned to sing in her church choir.
Shannelle is currently signed to Jive Records founded by Clive
Calder and has been there for the past 5 years.
Most of her songs are slow and soft mainly because she is singing about the pain she
has gone through in her life regarding real life situations e.g. relationships. Her songs
are aimed to give support and empowerment to mainly woman who have been hurt.
She could be regarded as a light Feminist. She puts her experience on her songs which
are relatable to people.
Her target audience is mainly girls and women who likes slow songs with relevant
meaning and just a good melody that you can sing along to.
4. Synopsis of my music video
The music video that I have chosen to do is Fantasia When I See
You.
The music video is featuring two separate teenage couples who
are involved with each other whether it be a crush or in a
relationship. As the music video progresses we see little bits of
teenage love lives.
The actors need to act as if they are in the situation that portrays that they are in a
teenage love story. My artist is going to appear in the music video but not as an
actor but as herself singing in between the narrative.
The first location will be set near a basketball court. The boy and girl will see each
other and numbers will be swapped. Later in the video we will see the now couple
playing and joking, having fun while showing that they are affectionate toward one
another. The second location will be in a house on a sofa where the girl is watching TV
and the boy is outside and they have a phone conversation showing how much they
are into each other.
The costumes of my artists has to be flashy but casual at the same time as I do not
want to portray her as a flashy artist (a bit like Ciara). The costumes of the actors have
to be typical teenage clothes e.g. jeans, shoes/trainers and a top/coat.
8. Goodwin's Elements
One of Goodwin's points is that a music video could have a
relationship between the lyrics and visuals which I have in
mine
to amplify the lyrics. Where the lyrics say ‘I lay my head on
my
pillow”, my artist will not lay her actual head on a pillow but
she will act it out with a hand gesture. Also the line ‘ I get
nervous when you call’ will be the boy checking his phone
and ‘ number 1 topic on the phone’ is seen as the couple
have a phone conversation.
Within my music video I will edit the content in time with the beat to enhance the
pace of the song.
My genre is shown by the location, track and the
narrative included in the music video. The
location and narrative is a typical teenage crush love
story which nearly all RnB artists have.
For example Alicia Keys Teenage Love Affair.
9. The music video is going to contain a lot of close ups to show off my artist to promote
Her album and her brand as a RnB artist. Close ups are also overdone by female artists
to promote sexuality. Also the Male Gaze present.
Voyeurism will be used as the boy is going to look over at the girl from his point of view.
Some angle will unintentionally sexualize my artist.
I don’t feel like my music video has any intertexual reference other than a lot of music
videos have to same concept but not completely the same. Generally people can
relate to the story line which is something that the audience can recognize.
10. Why and How
The decision to do this type of narrative is that I thought what does everyone have in
their lives? My answer was relationships, whether is is a relationship like you have with
a friend, parents, or a romantic relationship, everyone
will experience it. Then I went on to think how I could
show a relationship in my music video. I had a look at the
lyrics of the song and I thought to focus on teenagers as
my main area as the content is quite childish. Because it
has two verses I thought that I could have two couples
showing a bit of their lives.
My target audience is 15-25 years. My concept will appeal to them as they are the
years that relationships are starting and becoming more serious.
This concept will fit into the music industry as people are always going to be
listening to music. So depending on how they feel my music video can match their
mood. For example, if they are sad, happy and/or confused.
For the concept my main influence has been Alicia Keys as she sings about songs of all
emotions.
