Orchestrating Your Global CMS; a planning frameworkBarbara Holmes
When it comes to a content management system (CMS) it’s tempting to jump into execution; to get that website or sites set up quickly. That’s how a CMS is sold, right? There’s a promise that the gnarly inter-departmental problems will melt away, that content will create itself, that with a flip of a switch your enterprise will be a global market leader.
The truth is that the magic of a CMS doesn’t happen without a lot of thinking and planning beforehand. Like a symphony orchestra, there are a lot of parts to coordinate and all must work in harmony to produce the desired results. This publication shares some of the things ISITE has learned through helping clients with CMS implementations, migrations, global rollouts, website redesigns, and content strategy.
This is an ebook that I wrote as my last thought leadership piece and content contribution to ISITE Design, December 2014.
This document discusses the future of mobile learning in the workplace. It outlines how the mobile world is shifting towards mobility with growing smartphone and internet access. The changing workplace is also driving mobile learning with an increasingly mobile workforce and younger generations that are tech-savvy. This creates a great opportunity for learning through informal methods using mobile devices to support just-in-time learning needs. Mobile learning can help address the 70:20:10 model of learning through experience and coaching in addition to formal courses.

Two decades after 1995, the year of the Netscape IPO, the Internet population has exploded in size, it’s much more mobile, and it’s increasingly driven by user-created content and flexible content delivery that’s controlled by users. But growth is slowing in all but a few key areas.
While some of these points seem obvious, Mary Meeker’s charts, graphs and data helps quantify the landscape.
The tech industry makes a yearly tradition of turning to the fast-talking and data-synthesizing Meeker, a former Wall Street analyst turned late-stage venture capitalist at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers who publishes an influential annual assessment of the Internet economy. As has been her custom in recent years, Meeker introduced her Internet Trends report at the Code Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes on Wednesday.
Here’s how Meeker sets the stage: Two-thirds of a generation into the Internet, there were 2.8 billion users as of 2014, up from 35 million in 1995.
In 20 years, that’s 39 percent of the world’s population, up from .06 percent.

Steve Vosloo presented on education design in a mobile era. He discussed the growing mobile landscape globally and in Africa. The mobile revolution is changing education by supporting informal, contextual learning anywhere and anytime. When designing for mobile, considerations include understanding user context, designing for small screens first while supporting multiple devices, personalized and adaptive learning, learner analytics, social learning, and using existing platforms. Challenges to mobile learning include transforming existing systems, uneven infrastructure, and bridging formal and informal learning. Vosloo advised testing often and thinking holistically about infrastructure to support digital learning.

Technology Trends | How Technology Impacts Our LivesHellocomputer
Technology has significantly changed human behavior and society in recent years. The average attention span has decreased to 8 seconds due to information overload from the internet and smartphones. The rise of smartphones and constant connectivity through social media means relationships are built differently than in the past. However, literacy rates may be increasing as information is more accessible online and through mobile devices. Businesses are also adapting to these technological changes through crowdsourcing, mobile payment apps, sharing economies like Uber and Airbnb, and using smart user data to improve services. Wearable devices and health/fitness apps indicate technology is increasingly being used to track daily activities and improve individuals' well-being.
Mobile app usage is rising dramatically while desktop usage declines. Nearly 90% of mobile internet time is spent in apps rather than browsers. Most users have 10+ apps installed and spend over half their mobile time on social and communication apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Younger generations especially millennials and Gen Z are heavy mobile app users, opening apps over 50 times per day, and they are key audiences for mobile marketing. Video apps see the most consumer spending of any non-gaming app category.
This document summarizes key insights from presentations and conversations at TRU events over the past 12 months about mobility in recruiting. It discusses how 24/7 access has changed candidate engagement and emphasizes that recruiters must think about how candidates interact with content on mobile devices. The document also examines whether companies should focus on mobile-optimized websites or apps and stresses prioritizing relevant, easy-to-consume content tailored for mobile viewing. It provides action items like auditing mobile-friendliness and focusing on fundamentals like attention and frictionless experiences.
Impact of mobile marketing on youngsters for buying electronic gadgets.RahulSingh297288
This report is based on the rapid evolution of mobile technology, and the enthusiasm with
which it has been embraced. These developments have transformed mobile as a
marketing channel. Mobile marketing spend across the world is starting to rise
significantly. In the right circumstances, mobile can be a powerful tool. The rise of
smartphones and tablets has deepened the relationship between consumers and their
devices. The connectivity and technology they give to consumers are helping to drive
several consumer trends, including ‘smart boredom’ and ‘gamification’. They also
transform mobile as a marketing channel. Mobile had always had reach (the sheer number
of handsets in circulation) and location (the fact that phones go wherever the consumer
goes) in its favour. Now it has much more besides. One of the iPhone’s achievements was
to abolish the idea that the ‘mobile web’ had to be a different, lower-grade experience
compared to the PC-based web. Smartphones have opened up areas like mobile search
and mobile social networking like never before. Added to this is the bundle of technology
that comes in a modern phone – cameras, voice and image recognition, QR code readers,
GPS, and a host of new features.

A smartphone is a mobile device designed for making phone calls but also has computer-like functionality through apps and internet access. Research has found that smartphones affect productivity, communication, social engagement, and education. Smartphones have connected people globally for social networking and can be considered a basic need, but have also increased access to threats like pornography and enabled suicidal attempts. Smartphones have also improved productivity through organization, access to company networks, and allowing work to be done anywhere. However, they have reduced physical workloads and made society more relaxed. Smartphones have benefited education by giving students global access to information anywhere through internet and apps, improving understanding with multimedia. They allow information sharing between students and teachers regardless of location.

Microservice Teams - How the cloud changes the way we workSven Peters

Managing a microservices architecture demands a lot of us to ensure observability and operational resiliency. But did you also change the way you run your development teams?
Sven will talk about Atlassian’s journey from a monolith to a multi-tenanted architecture and how it affected the way the engineering teams work. You will learn how we shifted to service ownership, moved to more autonomous teams (and its challenges), and established platform and enablement teams.
What to do when you have a perfect model for your software but you are constrained by an imperfect business model?
This talk explores the challenges of bringing modelling rigour to the business and strategy levels, and talking to your non-technical counterparts in the process.

Hand Rolled Applicative User ValidationCode KataPhilip Schwarz
Could you use a simple piece of Scala validation code (granted, a very simplistic one too!) that you can rewrite, now and again, to refresh your basic understanding of Applicative operators <*>, <*, *>?
The goal is not to write perfect code showcasing validation, but rather, to provide a small, rough-and ready exercise to reinforce your muscle-memory.
Despite its grandiose-sounding title, this deck consists of just three slides showing the Scala 3 code to be rewritten whenever the details of the operators begin to fade away.
The code is my rough and ready translation of a Haskell user-validation program found in a book called Finding Success (and Failure) in Haskell - Fall in love with applicative functors.

5. Embracing the Mobile Future
5
Mobility as a use case became more apparent in other industries before it was realized effectively
in eLearning. For example, in environment, health, and safety (EHS), many realized that audits,
recordable incidents, and inspections -- all of which require checklists -- could be executed on
the spot with tablets and smartphones whenever EHS incidents and accidents occurred. After
all, it was a lot easier to have the information inputted into a system from a device at a point of
collection, as opposed to on a piece of paper, which would then be pulled into a spreadsheet,
which would then be printed out and put into a binder to collect dust. The paragon of inefficiency.
eLearning took a little longer to jump on the mobility train. But in the last few years -- especially
with the advent of microlearning -- it has become increasingly evident that mobility improves our
capacity to get the right information to learners right at the point of need. Also, it helps facilitate
what is widely deemed as the most successful mode of approaching L&D in general: the 70:20:10
approach, whereby 70 per cent of knowledge is accumulated through experiential circumstances,
20 per cent is accomplished through social interaction, and 10 per cent resides in the tried and
true approach of instructor-led, classroom-based environments. Mobility is assisting the middle
component, the 20, enabling learners and experienced folk in the workforce to interact with one
another not just at the water cooler, but across social channels as well.
