The Globe Theatre in London was famous because it is where Shakespeare performed and helped finance the building of the theatre. Plays generally started at 3pm and were advertised using flags. Men played all roles, including female parts, because women were not allowed to perform. Large scenery pieces were not used, instead curtains were pulled back to indicate scene changes. Costumes were minimal due to sumptuary laws regulating clothing. Actors needed skills like sword fighting, falling, and memorization. Standing room only tickets cost 1 penny. Richard Burbage was an actor and star of Shakespeare's plays with the Chamberlain's Men theatre company.
