The Globe Theatre was an Elizabethan playhouse located in London where William Shakespeare's plays were performed. The original theatre was built in 1599 and destroyed by fire in 1613, then rebuilt in 1614 before being demolished in 1644. The reconstructed Globe Theatre, built in 1997, is located about 230 meters from the original site, but on the riverbank like the first Globe to recreate the atmosphere. It has an outdoor thrust stage surrounded by three tiers of seating, replicating the original theatre design.
