Electricity has many applications and consumption is used to measure development. It is primarily generated through hydroelectric and thermal means. Hydroelectric power uses fast flowing water at renewable resource projects like Bhakra Nangal and Damodar Valley to turn hydro turbines. Thermal electricity is produced from non-renewable coal, petroleum, and natural gas resources at over 310 plants by heating water into steam to power turbines.
