This document discusses using a grid-tie inverter for a solar power system instead of batteries. It notes that batteries are very expensive, especially for larger solar systems needed to power a whole house. A grid-tie inverter allows the solar panels to feed power directly into the household electrical grid without batteries. Why use Grid-Tie Inverter?
• Experimenting with solar power is an expensive
hobby.
• The most expensive component are the batteries.
A single 250W solar panel would require at least
2x60Ah 12v batteries. A 1kW setup would require
8x60Ah 12v batteries. A 4kW setup (adequate to
power a single house) would require 32x60Ah
12v batteries (roughly RM6400)
• These batteries would need to be replaced every
2 years. Too bloody expensive.

The Installation

Once the grid-tie inverter is plugged into the household plug point, it will synchronize the
output to match the household voltage (240v) and frequency (50Hz). So during the daytime,
electrical power for your house will be supplemented by the solar panels and grid-tie inverter.

How much did I save per month?
• Roughly 130 kWh per month.
• Since my bill usually hovers
around RM200, then the price per
kWh is RM0.516. Therefore
130x0.516=RM67.08 per month.
• So it will be 5 years before I get
back my investment.
