El Paso
Imagine a place where past and present meet, a place where there are many cultures and a myriad of
things to do. El Paso, Texas is just that, a place where cultures don't clash, but, instead, mix.
Although some might see El Paso as a ghost town filled with run–down building in the middle of
nowhere, this city is replete with fun activities. El Paso presents a great escape, gives vast job
opportunities to young people, and offers wonderfully affordable housing. El Paso has many
enjoyable adventures. Pamela Porter quotes Mike Episcopo saying, "You've got 2 million peopl in
the El Paso–Juarez area, but when you get up in the canyons, it's like you'r in the middle of
nowhere" (qtd. in Porter 1). To some, being in the middle of nowhere might sound like a bore, but to
most, this is a perfect getaway. El Paso has many hiking trails, biking trails, museums, and more: a
great reason for anyone to escape from today's crazy world. If being away from society doesn't
sound like a great time, El Paso still keeps its mixed cultures and history alive through its
architecture. Bill Crawford states "... [T]he most far–out thing about El Paso is its culture, an
energetic melding of Old Mexico, New Mexico, West Texas, and even a dash of Bhutan" (1). El

El Paso has formed The El Paso Affordable Housing CUSO. According to "Affordable Housing Is
CUSO Goal," this program provides "affordable mortgages to low– and moderate–income" (1). The
program has students of a local community college build homes so that they can be sold below
market price, making home buying easier and cheaper. The involvement of local college students is
also another way El Paso gives job opportunities to its young people. There are, however, a series of
classes and requirements to qualify for these homes. In addition, El Paso will be remodeling public

HIV/AIDS Infiltrate El Paso
Over the course of the years the HIV/AIDS pandemic has managed to infiltrate El Paso. Lack of
information along with misguided information has contributed to this issue. Unfortunately this issue
is not treated as a priority. The number of agencies that focus on the prevention and education of
HIV/AIDS is not as big as it ought to be. There are hundreds and hundreds of individuals living in
El Paso who are infected with this virus and are unaware of it. Even more shocking is that the
highest percentage of these individuals along with those who have been tested belongs to teenagers.
The Teen Advisory Board is and organization whose goal is HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
They are partnered with The University Medical Center of El Paso. The ... Show more content on

Every year a group of teens form El Paso goes through an extensive training of approximately
eleven sessions. Once this program is completed they are then required to attend another training in
which they are instructed on the HIV/AIDS' history, prevention methods, and ways of spreading
along with other influential factors. Once they have completed this training they are then certified as
Teen Advisory Board educators. Once certified these teens begin outreach. They attend schools,
from middle schools to colleges, to conduct presentations on HIV/AIDS. They stress the importance
of having the right information in order to do the right choices. They talk about the risk factors that
can increase the possibility of individuals becoming infected with this virus. Such factors include
the usage of drugs and alcohol as well as peer pressure. In targeting these risk factors not only do
they help lower the excessive use of drugs and alcohol but they are also preventing the spread of
HIV/AIDS. Another goal of this program is to destroy ignorance. By giving these individuals the
correct information they are trying to eliminate the stigmas that for decades have accompanied this

El Paso City Attractions
Southwest University Park It all started as a great attraction, a great investment for the city. "A great
central attraction", many would say. I remember watching the news and people opposing, but mostly
hearing how people excited. Happy to see something new coming our way, having something to do
in this "boring" city, as many would say of El Paso. Construction started on May 30th of 2013, and a
few days before El Paso City Hall had been demolished by implosion. I remember a lot of people
from the community gathered up to see the explosion. It is a baseball field park, called Southwest
University Park Stadium, the city's newest attraction. It has been opened since April 28th 2014 at the
heart of the city, downtown El Paso, and is located on 1 Ballpark Plaza. Currently identified as one
of the bests. A lot of people were doubtful about the outcome. A great amount of people agreed and
were happy about the decision. The skeptical were finally pushed into the decision. I am certain that
it has been a great investment. The construction did start in May 30th of 2013; the total cost was 72
million dollars. It is now, home for El Paso Chihuahuas, which was announced on March 5th 2014.

The outcome has been massive. I have been able to see a lot of people, and them having a great
time. Tons of fun, I would say. Last year in 2014 it was named one of the newest, best ball parks by
the Ballpark Digest."At the end of the day, what matters is what fans think of the Ball Park,"
Reichard said, author of "2014 Best New Ballpark: Southwest University Park". "The answer is
clear: the Chihuahuas sold out nearly 75% of its games and ended up attracting 548,435 fans for the
whole season. The Chihuahuas were a huge hit in El Paso, and The Southwest University Park was

Essay: A Place To Live Out In El Paso
The question that we might be asking ourselves is that "do we need architects in our society?" The
answer is yes in my opinion because architects bring the life out of things, make people think twice
of coming back to a work of art, and make things look appealing to the human eye. A very good
example of architecture coming to a city is El Paso our home town. For example, downtown El Paso
was a very popular place for people to go hand out and have a very nice night life. But, downtown
El Paso took a turn for the worse and it started to become a very unpopular place to hang out in El
Paso. I will talk about how downtown El Paso has been changing since it atmosphere went downhill.
Downtown has not always been an unappealing place to hangout. It used to be a place where people
would go for a cup of coffee, or to catch a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also by doing that it brought a very high demand architects to the Sun city. It was important that we
had these architects in El Paso because if they want people to feel welcome to downtown to the El
Paso Chihuahuas games they need to make it a pretty atmosphere. I notice while the El Paso
Chihuahuas stadium was being built they started to re pave the sidewalks in downtown, making
major renovations to the light fixtures and building in downtown. They needed to do this because
they had to make the El Paso community and visitors welcome to downtown. They did not want
downtown to have a bad atmosphere like the past because no one would go to the Chihuahuas
games because they feel insecure of unpleasant views of downtown. Behind all the scenes of the
major renovations of downtown were a very big handful of architects that were helping downtown
become a better place. But also within hiring these architects we needed to hire labors to do this
kind work. Which gave a lot jobs to the El Paso

History of a Nursing in El Paso
The second Texas institution opened by the Daughters of Charity was in El Paso, a "frontier town"
of only a few thousand residents, when three Daughters of Charity arrived on February 3, 1892. The
day the history of nursing in El Paso will always look back to.(TSHAonline.org) These ladies saw a
vision to care for the sick that could not be cared for in El Paso. The Charity created the first
emergence center to go too, and formed our medical programs and helped lay a foundation to grow
on. With the help of the citizens of El Paso the Daughters of Charity opened up "Hotel Dieu" the
oldest and most renown hotel. Due to its central location, it was named after a hospital in Paris and
built El Paso's name for their great nursing program. After closing their doors in December 5, 1987,
Hotel Dieu, passed down its views on medicine to UTEP. It allowed the university to uphold the
reputation for having one of the best nursing programs in Texas. From 1892 until 2016, the school of
nursing has adapted to the changes in technologies and surgeries advancing in the field of
medicine, therefore impacting all El Pasoans lives who need medical attention. In the late 1800's to
1900's a white plague broke out in the United States called tuberculosis (TB), the need for medical
attention was both high and demanding."El Paso 's climate, characterized by mild winters, low

Asarco Copper Refinery Case Study
Regulated by state, local, and federal authorities; the Asarco copper refinery operated for more than
110 years and employed more than 25,000 people/worker. As time progressed, numerous supposive
health hazards that included pollution, lung cancer, lead poisoning, and exposure to dangerous
chemicals such as: Zinc, Cadmium, and Chromium, were brought upon the workers of Asarco and
the community of El Paso, Texas. Due to numerous court hearings pertaining to the subject of
environmental safety, Asarco closed its doors in 1998, leaving many employees with no jobs. The
company was charged a bill of $52,000 to clean up the lot they subsided on but fought for ten years

Asarco granted opportunity because it provided work to families and individuals of the Sun City.
The smokestack company provided to more than three–hundred seventy men and served as a shelter
in world war two, but the memories of Asarco that citizens reminisce on was the hazards and
sickness the company generated (Shapleigh). Though the company impacted the city in a positive
manner, the public opinion viewed Asarco as a "waste of space that can be made into something
more attractive to the tourist's eye" (Muench). Taggers never even attempted to graffiti the place and
citizens characterized the company to smell like "a burnt out cigar bud" (Safford). The town real
estate business also had no limits for the Asarco lot and preferred it to be empty and not ruin the
"perfect society" of the western side of El Paso and the Mt. Cristo Rey mountain area (Muench).
Asarco was not welcomed by the community after the disease and pollution it brought upon the
town. Why many prejudiced against the company is proven in an article by Christopher Roberts, the
prejudice was due to the fact that minorities were populating the city and taking jobs from the
"common white man" (Roberts). Speculations pointed out that those against the Copper refinery
were citizens that subsided miles away from the site, so far that it was questioned how the pollution
reached their house limits. In an interview with

Descriptive Essay On The Border
If I had to give the word luck a meaning, I would start by stating that being born to my Mexican
parents and being raised in the international border between Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and its sister
city of El Paso, Texas where two cultures clash and become one, has made me an incredibly lucky
person. Being able to move freely between both countries has given me the ability to observe and
understand the environment from two different perspectives.
In a time of globalization, and taking out of the equation old and recent political events that don't
respond to progress, the traditional idea of a border seems long lost. Throughout my life, I have been
exposed to the realities that make a border a complex setting. On average 22,000 people cross the
Juarez–El Paso border daily; 1,000 of them being students seeking a better education; others are part
of the workforce that impulses the economy of both cities working either in any of the 350
maquiladoras in the area or other jobs. On the other hand, some people enjoy crossing the border to
visit family or to spend a day in one of the many shopping centers in the El Paso area as well as in
other entertainment events. The border offers a strong sense of culture and traditions on both sides
which serves its people and visitors. This international relationship is critical to the lives of many
people, yet especially Mexican–Americans, like me.
I grew up in Cd. Juarez, in a house and an engraving business that my father inherited from his
father, a man who landed in Juarez seeking opportunities that he later turned into a business. Given
the fact that my father, just like my grandfather, didn't have formal higher education, and still was
able to run a successful business, has taught me the value of hard work and dedication. I also learned
the basic concepts of team work, through my mother who would help my father with the business.
The combination of these qualities allowed me and my siblings to grow up in a healthy environment
until it all changed about a decade ago during the dark times of the border.
The drug war exploded and Cd. Juarez had become famous as one of the most dangerous cities. The
streets were filled with violence and a numerous amount of people were

Ysleta Mission for Christianizing the Tigua Indians
Ysleta Mission
Ysleta, Texas
Mission Corpus Christi de la Ysleta, the first mission in Texas, was established by Antonio de
Otermín and Fray Francisco de Ayeta in 1682 and was maintained by Franciscans for christianizing
the Tigua Indians. The Tigua came as refugees and captives with the former Governor of New
Mexico, Antonio de Otermín on his retreat to the El Paso area after his unsuccessful attempt to
recover New Mexico in the winter of 1681–82 during the Pueblo Revolt. La Misión de la Ysleta del
Sur, consecrated in 1682, was built by the Tigua (Tewa, Tiwa) speaking peoples originally from
Isleta and Sandia Pueblos in New Mexico. The mission was located east of present day El Paso. The
pueblo and mission were dedicated to the Tiguas' patron, St. Anthony of Padua, became the nucleus
of a community that has existed for 300 years–the oldest continuously occupied settlement in Texas.
Today, Ysleta Mission is on the National Registry of Historic Places and part of the National
Historic Trail system of El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro.
From northern New Mexico to West Texas
The Tigua have faced many challenges in the past three hundred years since arriving in what is now
West Texas, and Mission Ysleta was become the place of meeting and mixing of cultures. The
original mission church at Ysleta del Sur is believed to have been built of mud chinked logs and
willow reeds. Later, Tigua labor built a permanent mission from adobe by 1682. Bishop Salpointe,

The purpose of this study was to investigate how negative stereotypes affect the achievement gaps.
The current study examined how boys see themselves pertaining to these negative stereotypes (e.g.
boys think of themselves as academically underachievers in comparisons to girls) and how believing
these stereotypes can become true because this is what they believe it is expected of them (e.g.
children believing that adults support this negative stereotype). Furthermore, the current study

Another way was by responding verbally to boy or girl. The second DV measure was conducted by
asking children meta–stereotypic questions (e.g. who do grown–ups think will do better at school

academic gender stereotypes, girls believed they are academically superior to boys F (1,203) =
41.50, p < .001. Furthermore, results show that boys favor the idea that girls are academically
superior as they advance through school F (4, 203) = 12.86, p < .001. In academic gender meta–
stereotypes results were analyze by using between– subjects ANOVA. Results for the second DV
provided insight on girls belief of academic gender meta–stereotypes did not increase as they
advance through school F (4, 203) = 0.52, p = .719 whereas boys believe that adults seeing girls as
academically superior did increase as they advance through school F (4, 203) = 12.24, p < .001.
Findings in the current study suggest that boys believe that girls are academically superior to them,
but they also believe that adults share the same belief as they do (Hartley & Sutton, 2013).

Downtown El Paso: Personal Narrative Analysis
One of the biggest events of the year in El Paso, Texas, is the big outdoor market that only happens
once a year, exactly during the first weekend of June. It happens in Downtown El Paso a city where
we have more hours of sunshine than of darkness. Every year, I go with my family. We get there
together on the same van, but when it comes to shopping and exploring it, my mom would give each
of her children, meaning my two sisters and me, money for us to splurge on anything that can calm
our capricious desires. We always seem to squander it in an impetuous way. I opted to take my own
way through the market. I prefer to go through the handmade crafts and all the artsy stuff section. I

Introduction There are thousands of children who play sports in the communities on facilities
supported by residents through their tax dollars. The Miracle League of El Paso provides disabled
children and young adults in our communities who cannot participate in a sport on a conventional
field with a place to play baseball. The Miracle League of El Paso removes the obstructions that stop
children with disabilities off the baseball field and allows them to experience playing the field. The
main obstruction for disabled children starts from the natural grass fields. The Miracle League of El

"According to the 2000 Census Bureau's states there are 5.2 million children in our country that
have disabilities between the ages of five and 19, and with young adults the number increases
substantially." (Miracle League, 2013). Teams are divided by age and ability, which means that it is
possible to have children from a wide range of ages on the same team if they play at a similar mental
and physical level. There are three divisions of play, non–competitive, intermediate, and
competitive. The difference is the teaching of regular baseball fundamentals in the competitive
division. In non– competitive every child bats, runs, and last batter scores a home run. Intermediate
division is in the middle of non–competitive and competitive division (Miracle League, 2013). The
Strengths of the Miracle League of El Paso is the ability to reach out to disabled children no matter
their age is to become involved in a recreational sport such as baseball that schools, and little league
teams would not include a disabled child. The main advantage of the Miracle League of El Paso is
that this League is the only one of its kind in El Paso. The weakness of the Miracle League of El
Paso is that the location is the only location for the park, and many children come from all parts of
El Paso. A few children live in New Mexico. Because of the economy 's situation many parents or

El Paso Argument Essay
The great city of El Paso is a spectacular place to live with its amazing citizens. What makes El Paso
El Paso is the people that reside in this area. Each generation a new breed of children come out to
create the new technologies and advancements in the city. The people that make our future engineers
or architects are our very own teachers. The educators of our area form the mentality and
determination that drives this city to do marvelous things. In an interview with a local elementary
school teacher Elizabeth Romero, when asked the question "Why teach at the elementary level
versus teacher higher up such as high school or college?" , She responded with the answer " I
believe that in this time of the kids life is the most influential. If I as a teacher can teach these kids
the rights things to do and prepare them for the future than I believe that they all can do great things
with their lives." Mrs. Romero began teaching at the age back in 2004 originally teaching high

Community Vitality At University Medical Clinic
COMMUNITY VITALITY
During the windshield assessment of Fabens, TX, not many citizens were seen walking outside.
There were a minute amount of people seen outside a gas station, filling–up their cars within the
community. Additional citizens were mostly seen at University Medical Outpatient Clinic.
Consequently, there were neither tourists nor apparent visitors to this town except for us solitary
Texas Tech students. Perhaps, the only noticeable, prospective visitors may have been those
individuals seen near an Interstate 10 gas station, situated on the edge of this township. Most
citizens that were look to be between the ages of 35–65 years old, with the exception of a hand–full
of children. That was seen at the health clinic; ranging in between the ages of 7–12 years old.
Hispanics were the only visible ethnicity detected during the conduction of this assessment.
The general appearances of those constituents were healthy, clean, and decently dressed. None of
the citizens appear to be malnourished and those who exemplify obese attributes were no more than
20 pounds overweight. No citizens with disabilities or mental disorders were seen. None of the
citizens that were observed seemed to under the influence of alcohol or drugs. During the
assessment, there were no pregnant women or women with strollers seen.

Personal Narrative: My Life In El Paso
I grew up in two very different communities, El Paso, Texas and Olney, Maryland. I spent the first
ten years of my life in El Paso, which being home to a military base, was a community with strong
military support. For the past seven years, I have lived in Olney, Maryland, a small town with
families that have known each other for generations. No one really moves to Olney, most families
have deeply established roots here, so when I moved to Olney when I was 10, I was very much an
outsider. El Paso was fairly limited to El Paso as far as short trips, but in Olney you can be to D.C or

Growing up I have watched how each of these communities have come together to support
individuals or families who have suffered great losses. This past summer, my school's new athletic

only met the fall sports teams, those teams and families showed immense support for his family.
This value was one I have seen in my family as well, my mother used to tell my sisters and I that the
world is mean enough, we don't need to be mean to each other. Even from a young age, my mom
emphasized the importance of taking care of others, this value was only reinforced as I grew up.

El Paso was once inhabited only by Indians, but as timed passed and many cultures began to

which makes El Paso a unique place. El Paso is a historical city, were cultures have been clashing
for many years, so immigration is not something new. According to www.theirminesourstories.org,
in 1598 the Juan de Oñate expedition celebrated the first Thanksgiving on United States' soil. Don
Juan de Oñate was one of the earliest Spanish conquistadors to enter what is now North America. He
led his men through the mountains and named this pass "El Paso del Norte." The Pueblo Revolt in
New Mexico in 1680 forced Spanish settlers back south of the Rio Grande. Many settled along the
river at the Pass of the North, primarily on the south side of the river. For the next few centuries the
Spanish settlements along the border flourished. The historic missions in Ysleta, Socorro and San

Looking back at the main building lies the main east façade with its beautiful porch leading up to the
main structure. The size and exquisite decor is what takes the mind of the city view and into the past
of a revival architecture. Constructed by Henry C. Trost from Trost & Trost Architects & Engineers,
this building serves as a revival evoking memories from Greece and Rome. The façade itself
consists of six shafts or columns which indicate the ionic part of the Corinthian style structure. The
Corinthian style capitals are a piece of work; they take the viewer back in time. The Corinthian
leaves and beautifully carved flowers are clearly visible as if time had no effect on the buff terra

The bases of the columns are like a perfect structure that hold a grand shaft that leads to beauty on
top. Furthermore, each column is big, no, in fact they are huge, they are elegant in their design and
seem to fit one another as they stand side by side. Above the six columns lies the architrave. The

The Saga of the Tigua Indians Essay

Teenage Pregnancy In El Paso, Texas
The discussion of why El Paso. Texas has one of the highest teenage pregnancy is a challenging one.
Is teenage pregnancy cause by lack of sex education, abstinence teaching or birth control
accessibility. I believe that the answer to teenage pregnancy is a truly difficult subject to tackle, due
to the many missing variables. Nevertheless, I think that the reason why El Paso, Texas has a high
teenage pregnancy because of the disagreement between the education system and parent's belief's
on when to teach young kids about their bodies. First, many parents believe that sex education in an
early age awakens the curiosity in young boys and girls, especially in a stage in their life when they
are not responsible enough. I believe in sex

Comparing El Paso, Texas And London Essay
Imagine yourself moving to a different city. You have looked at all the cities you would most likely
move to and you have finally picked out that El Paso, Texas and London, England are your two final
choices. After narrowing down the options to two cities its important to look at similarities and
differences. Although El Paso, Texas and London, England are similar in their cheap housing and
exuberant job opportunities, they differ in their getaways, job opportunities, and housing. El Paso
and London are very similar in that the cities don 't only offer housing at a very affordable rate, but
also have created ways to employ its citizens. The similarities between the cities affordable homes is
that both are using cheaper areas to reconstruct or build new homes. This causes cheaper rent and
mortgages. A similar way the cities are creating jobs is through teaching skills. El Paso offers the
Jobs Corps which provides a counselor to walk students through steps in getting a job. London also
offers a mentor to help guide employees through the daily routines and requirements to get the job.
The two similarities of the cities are just a few, but there are differences as well. El Paso has many
enjoyable adventures. Pamela Porter quotes Mike Episcopo saying, "You 've got 2 million peopl in
the El Paso–Juarez area, but when you get up in the canyons, it 's like you 'r in the middle of
nowhere" (qtd. in Porter 1). To some, being in the middle of nowhere might sound like a bore, but to

The Border Cities Of El Paso And Ciudad Juarez
Along the Texas/Mexico border there are many border cities, and among the border cities there is a
trend that points to an advantage of prosperity on the US side compared to the Mexican side of the
border. The border cities of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez show an example of the US advantage over
the Mexican side; El Paso is a Texas city on the Texas/Mexico border, and in 2014 it was the city
with the lowest crime rate in the US ; Ciudad Juarez, on the other hand was known as one of the
deadliest cities in Mexico . Along with the differences in crime rates, El Paso and Ciudad Juarez
have many differences that make them clear examples of the advantage that Texas border cities hold
over Mexican border cities.
Crime
In 2010, Ciudad Juarez was one of the most violent cities in all of Mexico with 3,057 murders .
Ciudad Juarez became an example of the extent of the drug war that was occurring in Mexico in the
2000s. Death had become a common occurrence in Ciudad Juarez. At the height of the drug war in
Mexico, between the years of 2007 and 2012, around 11,078 people were murdered in Ciudad
Juarez . In contrast to Ciudad Juarez, El Paso had the lowest crime rate in the US in 2014 .
According to the Neighborhood Scout website's interactive map, crime rates in the city of El Paso
are for the most part low, but near the border there is a high crime rate. The higher crime rate found
along the border is probably due to the ongoing drug trade and illegal immigration that occurs along

Geoffrey Wright, an El Paso architect, describes Henry Trost's grand design of El Paso High School
incorrectly as a "renaissance revival" in a 1991 article in the Austin American–Statesman. Although
he was mistaken in this observation, he made another observation that was correct, which is that the
eastern façade of El Paso High School's six humongous columns, on top of it's bases and adorned
with acanthus leaves, is most definitely a design of the Classical Revival style. He also went on to
state, "[T]he style adopted the best parts of Greek and Italian architecture centuries later." There are

The only differences between these two structures is that El Paso High School's east façade is
enclosed on both of the far ends and only has one engaged column on either side, while the Maison
Carée's façade has an open–ended side which is supported by multiple columns. The Maison Carée
also sports a pseudoperipteral façade that runs around the building and El Paso High does not have
this feature. El Paso High School has a few engaged–columns in certain areas around the school
although they are not a highly important feature, I think. El Paso High School also shares a few
things in common with one of Rome's most famous temple's, the Pantheon. Both buildings have a
vestibule above the pediments, which connect the porticos to the building itself. El Paso High's
vestibule connects each structure at a rectangular 'L' shaped 45–degree angle. Although the
Pantheon utilizes it's vestibules by connecting the dome to the portico. On the frieze of El Paso High

Pantheon's frieze. The inscription reads, "M. AGRIPPA L. F. COS. TERTIUM. FECIT," translating
to, "Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucius, Consul for the third time, built this." Hadrian, of course, had
added this to the building when he restored it after it burned down in 80 AD in order to pay homage

A Rhetorical Analysis Of El Paso Zoo
Whether it is by using the written word, a speech, or any other medium, in order to convey a
message to an audience, one must have an effective way of communicating one's ideas. The Greek
philosopher Aristotle believed that effective speakers use three kinds of appeals to make their
arguments convincing; ethos, the credibility of the speaker, logos, the speaker's actual message, and
pathos, or the emotional appeal the speaker arises in its audience. These rhetorical appeals are
present in many aspects of everyday life, including in websites. Websites such as the El Paso

Whether it consists of fixing something as simple as a street light to adding new rails, pavement, or

United Way is a non–profit organization that helps improve the livelihood in local communities. I
have been fortunate enough to see the impact United has provided from community donations and

way to describe the organizations audience is in comparison to the organizations structure and
function. University of Twente (2016) believes communication occurs among interdependent units
that work together to adapt to an ever–changing environment. United Way of El Paso County strives

the organization addresses these issues to their donors, agencies, and the families they support. The
organizations objective is to target multiple audiences and the programs structure is important to

team that works hard to find donors for the list of agencies they support. Typically a non–profit
organization choses agencies that get little to no help from the local government. United Way (2016)

Second solution is public transportation like shuttle, buses, trains, and so on. Using the public
transportation should be made mandatory so that traffic congestion does not spread further and
traffic is well regulated. Security should be tightened on public transportation to ensure safe travel.
It will be cheaper and better means of commuting.
Third solution is public awareness which is very important to solve the problem of traffic
congestion. People can walk short distances instead of using cars. They can also use bikes or skates.

According to the speculations of linguistic expert, John McWhorter, who wrote the article, "What
the World Will Speak in 2115," in one hundred years English will become the most widely

humans all share a single universal language. Having a common language would potentially open
the doors to many opportunities for increased economic activity and cultural interaction.
Additionally, as we travel into the 22nd Century, lesser used and more complex languages that are

According to his work, "English is the fastest–spreading language in human history and is used by
an estimated 1.27 billion people globally" (Neeley, 2012). The English language is already the most
popular language in the world, accompanied by each person's native language. Also, compared to
other languages English is relatively easy to learn (McWhorter, 2015). This does not mean that the
meshing of new versions of English are always pristine. Ana Lucia Gonzalez, reporter for BBC,
wrote the article, "Life in Spanglish for California's Young Latinos" to address this issue of blending
language.
However, it may come as a surprise that English would be the one to dominate, given that Mandarin
Chinese is spoken by the largest population in the world. It is very unlikely for Mandarin to replace
English because English is the already the official language in commerce around the world and it is
also the language in which organizations such as Asia–Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
communicate (Martinez, 2014). A reason that McWhorter provided to why Mandarin Chinese will
not be used as a global language, is because it is very difficult to master the language if not
introduced to it at a young age. Furthermore, English is much more user friendly and functional

Prostitution Of El Paso Research Paper
Prostitution in El Paso Research Paper As the arrival of the railroad in 1881 made its final stop in El
Paso, Texas, the population of the city boomed with people from different places and with different
intentions. A particular group of women came to the city to jumpstart a prostitution business to
service the needs of the men that came with the arrival of the railroad and in return, the women
would get money. Although Prostitution being the oldest profession, Madams Etta Clark and Alice
Abbott had an impact on the profession, specifically as it proteins to the City of El Paso. The fierce
business instinct that they both possessed, made them fierce, be loved, and respected at the same
time. Prostitution is the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for some
sort of payment. In depth, there are four types in which adultery can fall under. For example, the
most recognized one being street prostitution which involves in sexual activity in exchange for
money but it being out on the streets. The arrest for this illegal action tend to happen most in
isolated areas. For example, the "Tenderloin District" which included East Overland, Oregon, Third
and Utah Streets. Escort or "call–out" prostitution is a sex worker who does not necessarily go out in
public to display she/his line of work. Brothels are places where men go and pay for "call–out"
prostitutes. Lastly, the prostitution of children which was brought into alertness by Operation

Also military spouses from Japan, Germany, Korea, and all over whom does not even speak English;
find themselves in a bind. Military spouses in El Paso find themselves depending on one source of
income, which may not be adequate. With only one source of income, the working spouse feels the
financial burden. Although being bilingual is an advantage for an employer, by enforcing
Affirmative Action many of the people who would normally be disregarded for being deficient in
Spanish would finally have opportunities for desired positions. With applicants depending on being
bilingual for jobs, affirmative action will force employers to focus on education, certifications, and
diplomas. With focusing on credentials, and not language; Employers will hire those suitable for the
job. Also, this allows bilingual to not only have language, but the necessary credentials for the job.
With having bilinguals with credentials leaves room for translations for those who do not speak the
necessary language. With depending on each other for information, bilinguals, and non– bilinguals
would have to learn to communicate efficiently, and create a balanced work environment. With
being a diverse place El Paso needs to enforce Affirmative Action for those desperately finding jobs,

El Paso

  • 1. El Paso Imagine a place where past and present meet, a place where there are many cultures and a myriad of things to do. El Paso, Texas is just that, a place where cultures don't clash, but, instead, mix. Although some might see El Paso as a ghost town filled with run–down building in the middle of nowhere, this city is replete with fun activities. El Paso presents a great escape, gives vast job opportunities to young people, and offers wonderfully affordable housing. El Paso has many enjoyable adventures. Pamela Porter quotes Mike Episcopo saying, "You've got 2 million peopl in the El Paso–Juarez area, but when you get up in the canyons, it's like you'r in the middle of nowhere" (qtd. in Porter 1). To some, being in the middle of nowhere might sound like a bore, but to most, this is a perfect getaway. El Paso has many hiking trails, biking trails, museums, and more: a great reason for anyone to escape from today's crazy world. If being away from society doesn't sound like a great time, El Paso still keeps its mixed cultures and history alive through its architecture. Bill Crawford states "... [T]he most far–out thing about El Paso is its culture, an energetic melding of Old Mexico, New Mexico, West Texas, and even a dash of Bhutan" (1). El Paso has many different hotels, ... According to "Affordable Housing Is CUSO Goal," this program provides "affordable mortgages to low– and moderate–income" (1). The program has students of a local community college build homes so that they can be sold below market price, making home buying easier and cheaper. The involvement of local college students is also another way El Paso gives job opportunities to its young people. There are, however, a series of classes and requirements to qualify for these homes. • 3. HIV/AIDS Infiltrate El Paso Over the course of the years the HIV/AIDS pandemic has managed to infiltrate El Paso. Lack of information along with misguided information has contributed to this issue. Unfortunately this issue is not treated as a priority. The number of agencies that focus on the prevention and education of HIV/AIDS is not as big as it ought to be. There are hundreds and hundreds of individuals living in El Paso who are infected with this virus and are unaware of it. Even more shocking is that the highest percentage of these individuals along with those who have been tested belongs to teenagers. The Teen Advisory Board is and organization whose goal is HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. They are partnered with The University Medical Center of El Paso. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every year a group of teens form El Paso goes through an extensive training of approximately eleven sessions. Once this program is completed they are then required to attend another training in which they are instructed on the HIV/AIDS' history, prevention methods, and ways of spreading along with other influential factors. Once they have completed this training they are then certified as Teen Advisory Board educators. Once certified these teens begin outreach. They attend schools, from middle schools to colleges, to conduct presentations on HIV/AIDS. They stress the importance of having the right information in order to do the right choices. They talk about the risk factors that can increase the possibility of individuals becoming infected with this virus. Such factors include the usage of drugs and alcohol as well as peer pressure. In targeting these risk factors not only do they help lower the excessive use of drugs and alcohol but they are also preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS. Another goal of this program is to destroy ignorance. By giving these individuals the correct information they are trying to eliminate the stigmas that for decades have accompanied this ... • 5. El Paso City Attractions Southwest University Park It all started as a great attraction, a great investment for the city. "A great central attraction", many would say. I remember watching the news and people opposing, but mostly hearing how people excited. Happy to see something new coming our way, having something to do in this "boring" city, as many would say of El Paso. Construction started on May 30th of 2013, and a few days before El Paso City Hall had been demolished by implosion. I remember a lot of people from the community gathered up to see the explosion. It is a baseball field park, called Southwest University Park Stadium, the city's newest attraction. It has been opened since April 28th 2014 at the heart of the city, downtown El Paso, and is located on 1 Ballpark Plaza. Currently identified as one of the bests. A lot of people were doubtful about the outcome. A great amount of people agreed and were happy about the decision. The skeptical were finally pushed into the decision. I am certain that it has been a great investment. The construction did start in May 30th of 2013; the total cost was 72 million dollars. It is now, home for El Paso Chihuahuas, which was announced on March 5th 2014. The stadium has a capacity of 9,500 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The outcome has been massive. I have been able to see a lot of people, and them having a great time. Tons of fun, I would say. Last year in 2014 it was named one of the newest, best ball parks by the Ballpark Digest."At the end of the day, what matters is what fans think of the Ball Park," Reichard said, author of "2014 Best New Ballpark: Southwest University Park". "The answer is clear: the Chihuahuas sold out nearly 75% of its games and ended up attracting 548,435 fans for the whole season. • 7. Essay: A Place To Live Out In El Paso The question that we might be asking ourselves is that "do we need architects in our society?" The answer is yes in my opinion because architects bring the life out of things, make people think twice of coming back to a work of art, and make things look appealing to the human eye. A very good example of architecture coming to a city is El Paso our home town. For example, downtown El Paso was a very popular place for people to go hand out and have a very nice night life. But, downtown El Paso took a turn for the worse and it started to become a very unpopular place to hang out in El Paso. I will talk about how downtown El Paso has been changing since it atmosphere went downhill. Downtown has not always been an unappealing place to hangout. It used to be a place where people would go for a cup of coffee, or to catch a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also by doing that it brought a very high demand architects to the Sun city. It was important that we had these architects in El Paso because if they want people to feel welcome to downtown to the El Paso Chihuahuas games they need to make it a pretty atmosphere. I notice while the El Paso Chihuahuas stadium was being built they started to re pave the sidewalks in downtown, making major renovations to the light fixtures and building in downtown. They needed to do this because they had to make the El Paso community and visitors welcome to downtown. They did not want downtown to have a bad atmosphere like the past because no one would go to the Chihuahuas games because they feel insecure of unpleasant views of downtown. Behind all the scenes of the major renovations of downtown were a very big handful of architects that were helping downtown become a better place. But also within hiring these architects we needed to hire labors to do this kind work. Which gave a lot jobs to the El Paso ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

History Of A Hospital At El Paso Ana Escobar Ahonen 1302 English D/C 24 February 2016 History of a Nursing in El Paso The second Texas institution opened by the Daughters of Charity was in El Paso, a "frontier town" of only a few thousand residents, when three Daughters of Charity arrived on February 3, 1892. The day the history of nursing in El Paso will always look back to.(TSHAonline.org) These ladies saw a vision to care for the sick that could not be cared for in El Paso. The Charity created the first emergence center to go too, and formed our medical programs and helped lay a foundation to grow on. With the help of the citizens of El Paso the Daughters of Charity opened up "Hotel Dieu" the oldest and most renown hotel. Due to its central location, it was named after a hospital in Paris and built El Paso's name for their great nursing program. After closing their doors in December 5, 1987, Hotel Dieu, passed down its views on medicine to UTEP. It allowed the university to uphold the reputation for having one of the best nursing programs in Texas. From 1892 until 2016, the school of nursing has adapted to the changes in technologies and surgeries advancing in the field of medicine, therefore impacting all El Pasoans lives who need medical attention. In the late 1800's to 1900's a white plague broke out in the United States called tuberculosis (TB), the need for medical attention was both high and demanding."El Paso 's climate, characterized by mild winters, low rainfall and humidity and abundant ... As time progressed, numerous supposive health hazards that included pollution, lung cancer, lead poisoning, and exposure to dangerous chemicals such as: Zinc, Cadmium, and Chromium, were brought upon the workers of Asarco and the community of El Paso, Texas. Due to numerous court hearings pertaining to the subject of environmental safety, Asarco closed its doors in 1998, leaving many employees with no jobs. The smokestack company provided to more than three–hundred seventy men and served as a shelter in world war two, but the memories of Asarco that citizens reminisce on was the hazards and sickness the company generated (Shapleigh). Though the company impacted the city in a positive manner, the public opinion viewed Asarco as a "waste of space that can be made into something more attractive to the tourist's eye" (Muench). Taggers never even attempted to graffiti the place and citizens characterized the company to smell like "a burnt out cigar bud" (Safford). The town real estate business also had no limits for the Asarco lot and preferred it to be empty and not ruin the "perfect society" of the western side of El Paso and the Mt. Cristo Rey mountain area (Muench). Asarco was not welcomed by the community after the disease and pollution it brought upon the town. Why many prejudiced against the company is proven in an article by Christopher Roberts, the prejudice was due to the fact that minorities were populating the city and taking jobs from the "common white man" (Roberts). Speculations pointed out that those against the Copper refinery were citizens that subsided miles away from the site, so far that it was questioned how the pollution reached their house limits. • 13. Descriptive Essay On The Border If I had to give the word luck a meaning, I would start by stating that being born to my Mexican parents and being raised in the international border between Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and its sister city of El Paso, Texas where two cultures clash and become one, has made me an incredibly lucky person. Being able to move freely between both countries has given me the ability to observe and understand the environment from two different perspectives. In a time of globalization, and taking out of the equation old and recent political events that don't respond to progress, the traditional idea of a border seems long lost. Throughout my life, I have been exposed to the realities that make a border a complex setting. On average 22,000 people cross the Juarez–El Paso border daily; 1,000 of them being students seeking a better education; others are part of the workforce that impulses the economy of both cities working either in any of the 350 maquiladoras in the area or other jobs. On the other hand, some people enjoy crossing the border to visit family or to spend a day in one of the many shopping centers in the El Paso area as well as in other entertainment events. The border offers a strong sense of culture and traditions on both sides which serves its people and visitors. This international relationship is critical to the lives of many people, yet especially Mexican–Americans, like me. I grew up in Cd. Juarez, in a house and an engraving business that my father inherited from his father, a man who landed in Juarez seeking opportunities that he later turned into a business. Given the fact that my father, just like my grandfather, didn't have formal higher education, and still was able to run a successful business, has taught me the value of hard work and dedication. I also learned the basic concepts of team work, through my mother who would help my father with the business. The combination of these qualities allowed me and my siblings to grow up in a healthy environment until it all changed about a decade ago during the dark times of the border. The drug war exploded and Cd. Juarez had become famous as one of the most dangerous cities. The streets were filled with violence and a numerous amount of people were ... Ysleta Mission for Christianizing the Tigua Indians Ysleta Mission Ysleta, Texas Mission Corpus Christi de la Ysleta, the first mission in Texas, was established by Antonio de Otermín and Fray Francisco de Ayeta in 1682 and was maintained by Franciscans for christianizing the Tigua Indians. The Tigua came as refugees and captives with the former Governor of New Mexico, Antonio de Otermín on his retreat to the El Paso area after his unsuccessful attempt to recover New Mexico in the winter of 1681–82 during the Pueblo Revolt. La Misión de la Ysleta del Sur, consecrated in 1682, was built by the Tigua (Tewa, Tiwa) speaking peoples originally from Isleta and Sandia Pueblos in New Mexico. The mission was located east of present day El Paso. The pueblo and mission were dedicated to the Tiguas' patron, St. Anthony of Padua, became the nucleus of a community that has existed for 300 years–the oldest continuously occupied settlement in Texas. Today, Ysleta Mission is on the National Registry of Historic Places and part of the National Historic Trail system of El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. From northern New Mexico to West Texas The Tigua have faced many challenges in the past three hundred years since arriving in what is now West Texas, and Mission Ysleta was become the place of meeting and mixing of cultures. Downtown El Paso: Personal Narrative Analysis One of the biggest events of the year in El Paso, Texas, is the big outdoor market that only happens once a year, exactly during the first weekend of June. It happens in Downtown El Paso a city where we have more hours of sunshine than of darkness. Every year, I go with my family. We get there together on the same van, but when it comes to shopping and exploring it, my mom would give each of her children, meaning my two sisters and me, money for us to splurge on anything that can calm our capricious desires. And there comes a time in everyone's life when you have to say to yourself, 'I will begin living my own life; one's life ought to be self– governed. Your life, your choices, live it the way you want it, not the way anybody wants you to live it." He went on to tell me big part of the story follows the departure from his parents' side. He said he went on to travel the globe, he studied art in Paris, found the love of his life. He commented that the sheer joy of just living life the way he wanted to steer it, allowed him to collect a bundle of memories and that it all has inspired his art. Teams are divided by age and ability, which means that it is possible to have children from a wide range of ages on the same team if they play at a similar mental and physical level. There are three divisions of play, non–competitive, intermediate, and competitive. The difference is the teaching of regular baseball fundamentals in the competitive division. In non– competitive every child bats, runs, and last batter scores a home run. Intermediate division is in the middle of non–competitive and competitive division (Miracle League, 2013). The Strengths of the Miracle League of El Paso is the ability to reach out to disabled children no matter their age is to become involved in a recreational sport such as baseball that schools, and little league teams would not include a disabled child. The main advantage of the Miracle League of El Paso is that this League is the only one of its kind in El Paso. • 25. El Paso Argument Essay The great city of El Paso is a spectacular place to live with its amazing citizens. What makes El Paso El Paso is the people that reside in this area. Each generation a new breed of children come out to create the new technologies and advancements in the city. The people that make our future engineers or architects are our very own teachers. The educators of our area form the mentality and determination that drives this city to do marvelous things. In an interview with a local elementary school teacher Elizabeth Romero, when asked the question "Why teach at the elementary level versus teacher higher up such as high school or college?" , She responded with the answer " I believe that in this time of the kids life is the most influential. If I as a teacher can teach these kids the rights things to do and prepare them for the future than I believe that they all can do great things with their lives." Mrs. Romero began teaching at the age back in 2004 originally teaching high school. She realized that there was only a select few who chose to excel in their studies. I spent the first ten years of my life in El Paso, which being home to a military base, was a community with strong military support. For the past seven years, I have lived in Olney, Maryland, a small town with families that have known each other for generations. No one really moves to Olney, most families have deeply established roots here, so when I moved to Olney when I was 10, I was very much an outsider. El Paso was fairly limited to El Paso as far as short trips, but in Olney you can be to D.C or Virginia in about an hour; there is always something new to do. Although Olney and El Paso are quite different, they have both instilled a common value in me, take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Growing up I have watched how each of these communities have come together to support individuals or families who have suffered great losses. This past summer, my school's new athletic director passed away and many of the athletes and sports teams came together to help his family and bring them meals. The outpouring support was inspirational, even though the athletic director had only met the fall sports teams, those teams and families showed immense support for his family. This value was one I have seen in my family as well, my mother used to tell my sisters and I that the world is mean enough, we don't need to be mean to each other. Even from a young age, my mom emphasized the importance of taking care of others, this value was only reinforced as I grew up. Having grown up around this value has motivated me to help others when possible and be supportive of friends when they need it. I am the treasurer of my school's Doctors of Tomorrow Club, and throughout the year, we organize various drives to benefit the community, the blood drive, and volunteer at food banks. The Pueblo Revolt in New Mexico in 1680 forced Spanish settlers back south of the Rio Grande. Many settled along the river at the Pass of the North, primarily on the south side of the river. To revive a great nations architecture in the modern era goes to show just how much of an impact an ancient empire had on humanity that extends almost two thousand years in the past. El Paso High school is a great example of Corinthian Style architecture that was predominant by the Roman Empire in the years of the Pax Romana. Looking back at the main building lies the main east façade with its beautiful porch leading up to the main structure. Trost from Trost & Trost Architects & Engineers, this building serves as a revival evoking memories from Greece and Rome. The façade itself consists of six shafts or columns which indicate the ionic part of the Corinthian style structure. The Corinthian style capitals are a piece of work; they take the viewer back in time. The Corinthian leaves and beautifully carved flowers are clearly visible as if time had no effect on the buff terra cotta. The detail is acute and precise, to the extent that beautiful is a dull word to describe the vision. The bases of the columns are like a perfect structure that hold a grand shaft that leads to beauty on top. Furthermore, each column is big, no, in fact they are huge, they are elegant in their design and seem to fit one another as they stand side by side. Above the six columns lies the architrave. The architrave is a small part of the structure but fine to the last detail, it is astonishing the level of perfection that was achieved down to the last inch of this structure. There quiet defiance to change, however, has carried them through. From the height of civilization to near extinction the Tigua have remained. They endure imprisonment by the Spanish, oppression and manipulation by everyone that followed. This is the story of a people thought to extinct, that are once again learning to survive. After narrowing down the options to two cities its important to look at similarities and differences. Although El Paso, Texas and London, England are similar in their cheap housing and exuberant job opportunities, they differ in their getaways, job opportunities, and housing. El Paso and London are very similar in that the cities don 't only offer housing at a very affordable rate, but also have created ways to employ its citizens. Along with the differences in crime rates, El Paso and Ciudad Juarez have many differences that make them clear examples of the advantage that Texas border cities hold over Mexican border cities.
