Although some might see El Paso as a ghost town filled with run–down building in the middle of
nowhere, this city is replete with fun activities. El Paso presents a great escape, gives vast job
opportunities to young people, and offers wonderfully affordable housing. El Paso has many

HIV/AIDS Infiltrate El Paso
Over the course of the years the HIV/AIDS pandemic has managed to infiltrate El Paso. Lack of
information along with misguided information has contributed to this issue. Unfortunately this issue
is not treated as a priority. The number of agencies that focus on the prevention and education of

Every year a group of teens form El Paso goes through an extensive training of approximately
eleven sessions. Once this program is completed they are then required to attend another training in
which they are instructed on the HIV/AIDS' history, prevention methods, and ways of spreading

El Paso City Attractions
Southwest University Park It all started as a great attraction, a great investment for the city. "A great
central attraction", many would say. I remember watching the news and people opposing, but mostly
hearing how people excited. Happy to see something new coming our way, having something to do
in this "boring" city, as many would say of El Paso. Construction started on May 30th of 2013, and a
few days before El Paso City Hall had been demolished by implosion. I remember a lot of people
from the community gathered up to see the explosion. It is a baseball field park, called Southwest
University Park Stadium, the city's newest attraction. It has been opened since April 28th 2014 at the
heart of the city, downtown El Paso, and is located on 1 Ballpark Plaza. Currently identified as one
of the bests. A lot of people were doubtful about the outcome. A great amount of people agreed and
were happy about the decision. The skeptical were finally pushed into the decision. I am certain that
it has been a great investment. The construction did start in May 30th of 2013; the total cost was 72

The second Texas institution opened by the Daughters of Charity was in El Paso, a "frontier town"
of only a few thousand residents, when three Daughters of Charity arrived on February 3, 1892. The
day the history of nursing in El Paso will always look back to.(TSHAonline.org) These ladies saw a
vision to care for the sick that could not be cared for in El Paso. The Charity created the first
emergence center to go too, and formed our medical programs and helped lay a foundation to grow
on. With the help of the citizens of El Paso the Daughters of Charity opened up "Hotel Dieu" the
oldest and most renown hotel. Due to its central location, it was named after a hospital in Paris and
built El Paso's name for their great nursing program. After closing their doors in December 5, 1987,
Hotel Dieu, passed down its views on medicine to UTEP. It allowed the university to uphold the
reputation for having one of the best nursing programs in Texas. From 1892 until 2016, the school of

in world war two, but the memories of Asarco that citizens reminisce on was the hazards and

If I had to give the word luck a meaning, I would start by stating that being born to my Mexican
parents and being raised in the international border between Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and its sister
city of El Paso, Texas where two cultures clash and become one, has made me an incredibly lucky
person. Being able to move freely between both countries has given me the ability to observe and
understand the environment from two different perspectives.
In a time of globalization, and taking out of the equation old and recent political events that don't
respond to progress, the traditional idea of a border seems long lost. Throughout my life, I have been
exposed to the realities that make a border a complex setting. On average 22,000 people cross the
Juarez–El Paso border daily; 1,000 of them being students seeking a better education; others are part
of the workforce that impulses the economy of both cities working either in any of the 350
maquiladoras in the area or other jobs. On the other hand, some people enjoy crossing the border to
visit family or to spend a day in one of the many shopping centers in the El Paso area as well as in
other entertainment events. The border offers a strong sense of culture and traditions on both sides
which serves its people and visitors. This international relationship is critical to the lives of many
people, yet especially Mexican–Americans, like me.
I grew up in Cd. Juarez, in a house and an engraving business that my father inherited from his
father, a man who landed in Juarez seeking opportunities that he later turned into a business. Given
the fact that my father, just like my grandfather, didn't have formal higher education, and still was
able to run a successful business, has taught me the value of hard work and dedication. I also learned
the basic concepts of team work, through my mother who would help my father with the business.
The combination of these qualities allowed me and my siblings to grow up in a healthy environment
until it all changed about a decade ago during the dark times of the border.

Ysleta, Texas
Mission Corpus Christi de la Ysleta, the first mission in Texas, was established by Antonio de
Otermín and Fray Francisco de Ayeta in 1682 and was maintained by Franciscans for christianizing
the Tigua Indians. The Tigua came as refugees and captives with the former Governor of New
Mexico, Antonio de Otermín on his retreat to the El Paso area after his unsuccessful attempt to
recover New Mexico in the winter of 1681–82 during the Pueblo Revolt. La Misión de la Ysleta del
Sur, consecrated in 1682, was built by the Tigua (Tewa, Tiwa) speaking peoples originally from
Isleta and Sandia Pueblos in New Mexico. The mission was located east of present day El Paso. The
pueblo and mission were dedicated to the Tiguas' patron, St. Anthony of Padua, became the nucleus

During the windshield assessment of Fabens, TX, not many citizens were seen walking outside.
There were a minute amount of people seen outside a gas station, filling–up their cars within the
community. Additional citizens were mostly seen at University Medical Outpatient Clinic.
Consequently, there were neither tourists nor apparent visitors to this town except for us solitary
Texas Tech students. Perhaps, the only noticeable, prospective visitors may have been those
individuals seen near an Interstate 10 gas station, situated on the edge of this township. Most
citizens that were look to be between the ages of 35–65 years old, with the exception of a hand–full
of children. That was seen at the health clinic; ranging in between the ages of 7–12 years old.
Hispanics were the only visible ethnicity detected during the conduction of this assessment.
The general appearances of those constituents were healthy, clean, and decently dressed. None of
the citizens appear to be malnourished and those who exemplify obese attributes were no more than
20 pounds overweight. No citizens with disabilities or mental disorders were seen. None of the
citizens that were observed seemed to under the influence of alcohol or drugs. During the
assessment, there were no pregnant women or women with strollers seen.

I grew up in two very different communities, El Paso, Texas and Olney, Maryland. I spent the first
ten years of my life in El Paso, which being home to a military base, was a community with strong
military support. For the past seven years, I have lived in Olney, Maryland, a small town with
families that have known each other for generations. No one really moves to Olney, most families
have deeply established roots here, so when I moved to Olney when I was 10, I was very much an

Growing up I have watched how each of these communities have come together to support
individuals or families who have suffered great losses. This past summer, my school's new athletic
director passed away and many of the athletes and sports teams came together to help his family and
bring them meals. The outpouring support was inspirational, even though the athletic director had
only met the fall sports teams, those teams and families showed immense support for his family.
This value was one I have seen in my family as well, my mother used to tell my sisters and I that the

outstanding and unrivaled beauty. To revive a great nations architecture in the modern era goes to
show just how much of an impact an ancient empire had on humanity that extends almost two
thousand years in the past. El Paso High school is a great example of Corinthian Style architecture
that was predominant by the Roman Empire in the years of the Pax Romana. The building is a
masterpiece that displays two ancient Roman styles of architecture, on its East Façade and the other

However people who are not bilingual seems to be excluded in these opportunities. But instead of

Also military spouses from Japan, Germany, Korea, and all over whom does not even speak English;
find themselves in a bind. Military spouses in El Paso find themselves depending on one source of
income, which may not be adequate. With only one source of income, the working spouse feels the
financial burden. Although being bilingual is an advantage for an employer, by enforcing
Affirmative Action many of the people who would normally be disregarded for being deficient in
Spanish would finally have opportunities for desired positions. With applicants depending on being
bilingual for jobs, affirmative action will force employers to focus on education, certifications, and
diplomas. With focusing on credentials, and not language; Employers will hire those suitable for the

With having bilinguals with credentials leaves room for translations for those who do not speak the
necessary language. With depending on each other for information, bilinguals, and non– bilinguals
would have to learn to communicate efficiently, and create a balanced work environment. With
being a diverse place El Paso needs to enforce Affirmative Action for those desperately finding jobs,
