This review, like the previous, does not evaluate the technicality or correctness of NBS data and accompanied Methodology. It essentially takes a look at the quality of NBS data releases, timeliness and punctuality, report reusability, release practices, report accessibility, public engagement, and adherence to provisions of The Statistics Act, 2007. The purpose of this review is to provide improvement feedback to the NBS so it can better serve Nigerians, Government and Businesses, as well as improve Nigeria’s ranking in the Open Data Inventory (ODIN) ranking which assesses the coverage and openness of national statistical systems.
The Black & Veatch 2017 Strategic Directions: Smart City/Smart Utility Report investigates the progress made by communities and utilities as they continue their evolution toward smarter infrastructure. Around the globe, cities and utilities are beginning to see tangible results from preliminary efforts and are gaining confidence in what a smart city can be.
Municipalities are starting to understand the power of data and how it can foster and support master planning, and how a roadmap can define, drive and ultimately enable smart city initiatives. Utilities are working to integrate advanced technologies—such as evolving to accommodate distributed energy resources (DER) and improving network connectivity—to determine a successful path forward in a changing landscape.
Most importantly, communities and utilities are coming to the understanding that proactive data management—from collection to visualization and analytics—is critical to the smart city movement because it will allow them to prioritize efforts, commit funding and allocate resources in a tactical manner.
The 2017 Strategic Directions: Smart City/Smart Utility Report also discusses potential hurdles that may impede success. For example, key gaps remain in the areas of planning, funding and technology through data management that will force governments and utility providers to revisit how they approach these efforts.
We welcome your questions and comments regarding this report and/or Black & Veatch services. You can reach us at MediaInfo@bv.com.
Report Background
The annual Black & Veatch 2017 Strategic Directions: Smart City/Smart Utility Report is a compilation of data and analysis from an industrywide survey. This year’s survey was conducted online from 19 October 2016 through 4 November 2016. A total of 741 qualified utility, municipal, commercial and community stakeholders completed a majority of the survey. Because the survey was administered online, the amount of self-selection bias is unknown, therefore, no estimates of sampling error have been calculated.
The Mapping Revolution: Incorporating Geographic Information Systems in Gover...GovLoop
Since the beginning of civilization, humans have used images as a means to tell stories. We have used images to educate, entertain or to build a just and moral society. Our ancient ancestors would use images to remember stories and archive information for future generations. Similar to our ancient ancestors, we use images today to convey meaning, understand complex relationships and improve communication.
The use of mapping and geospatial technology is at the heart of story telling and improved communications. As the challenges of the public sector continue to grow in complexity, efficient and effective communication tools are essential. Today, government is more interconnected than ever before, and the complexity has led to increased integration between state, local and federal officials. At all levels of government, agencies are looking for solutions to find value and improve public sector decision-making through data. http://www.govloop.com/profiles/blogs/govloop-guide-the-mapping-revolution-incorporating-geographic-inf

Analytical Framework of Egyptian Labour Market Information LessonsMohamed Ramadan
This presentation introduce the analytical framework of the Egyptian LMIS in Arabic language. The presentation was executed in a series of capacity development workshops, which carried-out by TEVT-2 project. This material introduces the main key information items that should be included in ELMIS to answer different stakeholders needs at the national and local levels.
Egypt on the road to achieve SDG-2 "Zero Hunger"Mohamed Ramadan
This is an Arabic version from the presentation that anatomize the challenges facing Egypt to achieve SDG 2. The presentation was the main topic of the carried activities by WFP country office in the planning process to the Country Strategy Program for 2018-2022.
How Gender Biased are Female-Headed-Households Transfers in Egypt?Mohamed Ramadan
In this paper, we claim that the policy of targeting female-headed households’ (FHHs) may generate bias against women in male-headed households (MHHs) who may be more poverty-constrained. Targeting FHHs may have the merit of clear targeting, however, it doesn’t address the feminization phenomenon of poverty; instead, it presents unequal opportunities for women in other families by less favoring them. We argue that proper targeting could be derived based on the number of women in families. The study applied a Gender-Based Poverty Detection Model to provide a good detection of household poverty and show that the vulnerable characteristics of females could be more influenced by the general household’s poverty than females’ headed households. Model results showed that not all FHHs are poor, and that some de jure MHHs include a large number of poor females. This means that targeting only de jure FHHs might result in resource leakage to the non-poor and under-coverage of poor de facto FHHs and poor females in MHHs. The analysis asserts that female headship is not always a correlate of poverty in Egypt. An important correlate, however, is the share of female members in the household. This raises questions about the effectiveness of social assistance and poverty alleviation programs in Egypt in targeting female poverty.
This presentation give an overview regarding the concept and fundamentals of LMIS. Moreover, it presents to the conceptual framework of the Egyptian Labour Market.
This presentation is the Arabic version from the results of the first e-census in Egypt, which published in September 2017, with a notable attendance by H.E. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the President of Egypt, as well as the Egyptian Cabinet, and key society elites and distinguishable international representatives.

You can see the future first in San Francisco.
Over the past year, the talk of the town has shifted from $10 billion compute clusters to $100 billion clusters to trillion-dollar clusters. Every six months another zero is added to the boardroom plans. Behind the scenes, there’s a fierce scramble to secure every power contract still available for the rest of the decade, every voltage transformer that can possibly be procured. American big business is gearing up to pour trillions of dollars into a long-unseen mobilization of American industrial might. By the end of the decade, American electricity production will have grown tens of percent; from the shale fields of Pennsylvania to the solar farms of Nevada, hundreds of millions of GPUs will hum.
The AGI race has begun. We are building machines that can think and reason. By 2025/26, these machines will outpace college graduates. By the end of the decade, they will be smarter than you or I; we will have superintelligence, in the true sense of the word. Along the way, national security forces not seen in half a century will be un-leashed, and before long, The Project will be on. If we’re lucky, we’ll be in an all-out race with the CCP; if we’re unlucky, an all-out war.
Everyone is now talking about AI, but few have the faintest glimmer of what is about to hit them. Nvidia analysts still think 2024 might be close to the peak. Mainstream pundits are stuck on the wilful blindness of “it’s just predicting the next word”. They see only hype and business-as-usual; at most they entertain another internet-scale technological change.
Before long, the world will wake up. But right now, there are perhaps a few hundred people, most of them in San Francisco and the AI labs, that have situational awareness. Through whatever peculiar forces of fate, I have found myself amongst them. A few years ago, these people were derided as crazy—but they trusted the trendlines, which allowed them to correctly predict the AI advances of the past few years. Whether these people are also right about the next few years remains to be seen. But these are very smart people—the smartest people I have ever met—and they are the ones building this technology. Perhaps they will be an odd footnote in history, or perhaps they will go down in history like Szilard and Oppenheimer and Teller. If they are seeing the future even close to correctly, we are in for a wild ride.
Let me tell you what we see.
Enhanced Enterprise Intelligence with your personal AI Data Copilot.pdfGetInData
Recently we have observed the rise of open-source Large Language Models (LLMs) that are community-driven or developed by the AI market leaders, such as Meta (Llama3), Databricks (DBRX) and Snowflake (Arctic). On the other hand, there is a growth in interest in specialized, carefully fine-tuned yet relatively small models that can efficiently assist programmers in day-to-day tasks. Finally, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures have gained a lot of traction as the preferred approach for LLMs context and prompt augmentation for building conversational SQL data copilots, code copilots and chatbots.
In this presentation, we will show how we built upon these three concepts a robust Data Copilot that can help to democratize access to company data assets and boost performance of everyone working with data platforms.
Why do we need yet another (open-source ) Copilot?
How can we build one?

The Building Blocks of QuestDB, a Time Series Databasejavier ramirez
Talk Delivered at Valencia Codes Meetup 2024-06.
Traditionally, databases have treated timestamps just as another data type. However, when performing real-time analytics, timestamps should be first class citizens and we need rich time semantics to get the most out of our data. We also need to deal with ever growing datasets while keeping performant, which is as fun as it sounds.
It is no wonder time-series databases are now more popular than ever before. Join me in this session to learn about the internal architecture and building blocks of QuestDB, an open source time-series database designed for speed. We will also review a history of some of the changes we have gone over the past two years to deal with late and unordered data, non-blocking writes, read-replicas, or faster batch ingestion.
ViewShift: Hassle-free Dynamic Policy Enforcement for Every Data LakeWalaa Eldin Moustafa
Dynamic policy enforcement is becoming an increasingly important topic in today’s world where data privacy and compliance is a top priority for companies, individuals, and regulators alike. In these slides, we discuss how LinkedIn implements a powerful dynamic policy enforcement engine, called ViewShift, and integrates it within its data lake. We show the query engine architecture and how catalog implementations can automatically route table resolutions to compliance-enforcing SQL views. Such views have a set of very interesting properties: (1) They are auto-generated from declarative data annotations. (2) They respect user-level consent and preferences (3) They are context-aware, encoding a different set of transformations for different use cases (4) They are portable; while the SQL logic is only implemented in one SQL dialect, it is accessible in all engines.
