Oedipus Rex, by Sophocles
My parents are really well intended, and I think their way of dealing with things is
denial and guilt. Nobody wanted to talk about it. But all I did was blame myself.
This quote, from actress Teri Hatcher about her own childhood also relates to
Oedipus s situation from Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. SophoclesOedipusRex tells the
story of a monarch named Oedipus whowho becomes the unfortunate victim of
circumstances beyond his control. In Oedipus Rex, Oedipus downfall is not a result
of excessive hubris or his actions, but rather his parents disgraceful actions and
uncontrollable aspects of fate. Oedipus parents actions and decisions are a major
element in Oedipus tragic downfall. Before Oedipus is born, Laius and Jocasta, the...

The driver struck Oedipus to get him to move out of the way, but this enraged the
young man, who continued to fight and kill the driver and the man he was
transporting King Laius. (Oedipus 1) At this revelation, Oedipus discovers that he
fulfilled the prophecy of the Oracle, and blinds himself in his grief. Laius and
Jocasta should never have abandoned Oedipus on Mount Cithaeron. If Jocasta and
Laius had raised Oedipus instead of Polybus and Merope, then Oedipus wouldn t
have inadvertently killed his father or unknowingly married his mother and the
prophecy foretold by the Oracle at Delphi would never have come true. Oedipus
could not control the fact that his parents abandoned him on Mount Cithaeron nor
did he intentionally marry his mother. Jocasta and Laius and Oedipus tragic
downfall by trying to prevent the prophecy from coming true and allowing their
own selfishness get in the way of doing what was best for their child. They were so
concerned about their own lives that they did not care about Oedipus and cruelly
cast him aside. Laius and Jocasta s ineptness as parents are primary causes of
Oedipus defeat; Oedipus was in no way responsible for his parents actions and
decisions. Random acts of fate also play an important role in Oedipus tragedy. Fate is

The Social-Conflict Theory Of Inequality In Every Society
The social conflict theory states that inequality exists in every society, which results
in conflict and change. This theory takes into consideration factors such as social
class, race, ethnicity, gender, and age. Throughout history, there has been inequalities
between the rich and the poor, males and females, white people and people of color;
these inequalities are still ongoing today in several societies around the world.
Furthermore, this social inequality causes conflict since it benefits specific groups of
people and harms others. The social conflict theory has two main types: the gender
conflict theory and the raceconflict theory.
The gender conflict theory, also called the feminist theory, focuses on the inequality
between males and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are known to have better health than men. Girls are less likely than boys to
die before or immediately after birth, and males tend to become more
individualistic and aggressive later on which contributes to them having three
times the risk of accidents, four times the rate of suicide, and five times the risk of
dying from a homicide (CD, 2012). Also, women on average outlive men by
around five years. Later in life, men are also more likely to get heart disease. There
are also cultural and behavioral reasons to why there are inequalities in health and
medicine between men and women. Men naturally seeks to be more masculine,
while women naturally seek femininity. Thus, young men are more likely to smoke,
consume alcohol, and partake in risky activities since they associate it with
masculinity. As a result, males have higher rates of accidental and non accidental
injuries (Broom, 2012). Women, however, tend to take more care about their health
and body since they have been taught by society that it is more feminine. As a result,
more women suffer from eating disorders than men. According to ANRED (Anorexia
Nervosa and Related Eating Disorders Organization), only about 10% of people with
anorexia and bulimia are

Speech On Vegans
Is it healthy to be a vegan? Every single day, people decide to adopt a vegan diet.
Every person who adopts this diet usually has a different reason for their change of
lifestyle. Whether it be to lose weight, or to simply just follow a trend. The amount
of people who are becoming vegan is increasing exponentially. Vegan diets are
growing in popularity today among teenagers and youth, in especially females. A
nationwide poll conducted in April 2006 by Harris Interactive reported that 1.4% of
the American population is vegan, in that they eat no meat, fish, dairy, or eggs. To
the naked eye of society, becoming a vegan is a healthy lifestyle choice, but there are

In order to seek the amazing health benefits from veganism, one must be proper with
their diets to thrive. Firstly, many vegans are potentially at risk for vitamin B 12
deficiency due to the absence of nutrients from the foods they choose not to eat. In
order to avoid this deficiency, vegans should regularly consume vitamin B 12
fortified foods, such as fortified soy and rice beverages, breakfast cereals, and B
12 fortified nutritional yeast, or take a daily vitamin B 12 supplement. Secondly, by
becoming a vegan, many lose a lot of the calcium that they usually receive from a
non vegan diet. In order to make up for this loss of calcium, one should eat green
leafy vegetables, tofu, tahini, calcium fortified orange and apple juices, soy and rice
beverages and soy milk. Thirdly, by becoming a vegan, one may lose a lot of
nutrients from the fatty acid ALA. In order to make up for this loss, one must eat
foods such as ground flaxseed, walnuts, canola oil, soy products and hemp seed
based beverages. In order to be a vegan that is healthy and beneficial towards the
prevention of disease and illness, one must make sure their diet makes up for the
losses of nutrients that one would gain from a non vegan

Primo Survival In Auschwitz Analysis
Imagine being taken from your home, and being stripped of all possessions
including your name. In the novel Survival in Auschwitz, a man named Primo tells
his story about being a Jew during the Holocaust. He starts the novel when he was
found after hiding for some time, and describes his day to day life until he is
liberated. As the book goes on there are many examples of the brutal treatment and
dehumanization of the Jews that the Nazis were a part of on a day to day basis.
Right away at the start of the book Primo is taken from his hiding place and is
forced to go to a concentration camp (Levi 14). They are transported in small train
cars and do not get hardly any food or water (Levi 19). This lack of food and water
stays constant throughout
Evaluation Of A Preschool Classroom During Play Time
In an a preschool classroom during play time, you may see boys playing with cars
and dressing up as firefighters and police officers while the girls are playing make
believe in the kitchen and folding laundry. The difference in how children may play
and/or interact is clear to see. At a very young age, children already have started to
associate different toys, clothing, jobs, behaviors, and/or colors with gender. What
accounts for accounts for this in children? Reading about gender typing in the book
made me become more interested in what factors contribute to developing gender
typing in children. The book, in my opinion, gives a very vague description of what
really develops gender typing in children. My belief is that gender typing is a very
complex concept and there are many factors that go into the different aspects of
gender typing in children.
In a multidimensional study in gender typing in preschoolers and parents, Patricia
Turner and Judit Gervai assessed the attitudes, personality, preferences, and cultural
differences of the selected participants. Within the study, 82 four year old girls and
79 four year old boys along with their parents participated. Approximately half of
the participants came from preschools in Cambridge, England and Budasqet,
Hungary (Turner Gervai, 1995). The procedure used for the children was for each
child to be shown black and white drawings of six male and female typical, and eight
neutral typical toys. Children in this experiment were
Descriptive Essay About Running
I loved running ever since I could walk on my two feet. I started to like running
when I saw my dad coaching the track and field team at this school. I felt like the
competition of running. My favorite part were the races. The racing was the best
part because everybody was cheetah fast. It would be two or more people neck to
neck to win the race. As they zoomed pass for first. The first day of school of
middle school was so awesome so much new things became accessed in middle
school. The hallways were long . When I was runningaround the hallway in the
school and a teacher stopped me and asked, Are you doing cross country. When she
said cross country my eyes opened. This is the first year when you can do cross

months till practice starts. So later on in middle it was finally time for the first
cross country practice. When I showed to my first practice of cross country I got
surprised to see tall, long legged, fast people zooming pass me. Like Usain bolt.
While I admired watching the racers run the coach said, How are you doing young
man. I said good. Then the cross country coach said, Those long legs are going to
help you run fast. She also said, those legs look like running legs. When I heard the
coach say that to me I was so inspired that I could actually be good at this. After the

Analysis Of The Book Freakonomics By Steven D. Levitt
In the book Freakonomics, by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, is made up of
a series of scenarios in which an economist and a journalist apply basic principles of
economics to demonstrate that information can often expose interesting truths about
how the world operates. It uses the science of economics and specific data to
challenge our assumptions about everything. In the book Freakonomicsby Levitt
Dubner, compares and contrasts two groups of people or things by using their
informational data. This is called juxtaposition, which means the fact of two things
being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect. Levitt and Dubner look at
the world in a way that is both surprising, occasionally funny, and always
enlightening. They do so by drawing unexpected connections between two greatly
different but complementary aspects of sociology and economics, such as sumo
wrestlers to school teachers, KKK members to the real estate agents, and lastly, crack
gangs to McDonalds.
In chapter one of Freakonomics, the comparison between school teachers and sumo
wrestlers is a juxtaposition that was introduced in this book. The Chicago Public
School System is an example of how teachers were willing to cheat, thus manipulating
their students test results in order to obtain money compensations and prestige. The
possibility of promotion or higher pay, provoked teachers to inflate their student s test
scores. Whether through writing the answers to Standardized tests on the
Essay On Tacky s Rebellion
When the British conquered Jamaica from the Spaniards, the Spaniards left behind a
large number of African slaves. These slaves created three settlements; Juan de Serras
allied with the Spanish guerrillas, Juan de Bolas, and the third joined to join other
runaway slaves and lived with the Arawak people. These three groups established
independent communities by the interior mountainous regions of the island. To
survive the runaway slaves and Maroons farmed and occasionally raid the
plantations. Eventually they took control of a large areas of the interior of the island.

Maroons to regain the lands they lost causing the First Maroon War. The Maroons

One well know rebellion is the Tacky s revolt. In May 1760, a slave overseer by the
name of Tacky led a group of African slaves in a revolt to take over plantations
while killing the slave owners. Tacky and the slaves marched to a shop in Fort
Haldane where they killed the shopkeeper and stole barrels of gunpowder and
firearms. That night hundreds of other slaves joined Tacky and his followers.
There was a large celebration for their success in gaining the weapons the need. A
group of Obeahman (witch doctor) formed a circle around the camp, throwing
powder at the men claiming that it would protect them from injury and death and
proclaiming that a Obeahman cannot be killed. The slave s confidence was now
very high. The British troops along with Maroons who were bounded by the treaty
to stop the rebellion soon showed up. When the troop hear of the Obeahman s
claimed immortality they captured, killed and hung his head on a stick for all to
see. The rebels saw this and most of the slaves lost their previous confidence and
returned to their plantations while Tacky and a few men ran into the woods. They
were chased by the Maroons, Tacky was shot and then his head was cut off for
proof of the defeat. The rest of his men were found in a cave near Tacky Falls, they
committed suicide instead of returning to
Reflection on My Nursing Decision
Pearson (2013) clarifies clinical decision making is essential to every aspect of
care delivered to a patient (p. 214). It is the ability to blend information and make
decisions that will later be implemented in the situation. Evidence based decision
making involves choosing from a variety of possibilities and combining the
knowledge through research and the scientific evaluation of one s practice. The
purpose of this paper is to analyze my decision of administering ativan by advocating
for the patient and anticipating her change prior to confirming signs; which provided

Rationale for Framework The CAEN Decision Making Model for Nursing Practice
Framework was chosen for this analysis due to its incorporation of foundational
knowledge, thinking processes, context and decision making processes. The model
places major emphasis on the quality of relationships, salience and pattern
recognition, healing initiatives, critical reflection to analyze a situation pre and
post and to value different ways of knowing. The client along with the nurse is
intertwined in the center of the framework highlighting the importance of their
relationship. All critical decision making for nursing practice is the client s lived
experience of health and healing; which is essential to the inquiry process where a
nurse will enter into and become engaged in the new relationship. In this situation,
being directly involved with the patient provided an opportunity to create a
relationship on the basis of providing health and healing measures (CAEN, 2008).
Coming to Know the Client The first stage of this framework is coming to know
the client, which requires the nurse to understand that the personal meaning of
health and healing is individualized and the context of this area is highly subjective.
Gillespie and Paterson (2009) state that clinical decision making processes are
triggered by recognition of a cue from a patient (p. 167). In the case of this patient,
the decision was based off a cue; a change
Eighner s Model Of Success Essay
To be authentically pleased with oneself is extremely difficult to meet, especially
through the eyes of a superficial being. In modern society, numerous people revolve
around the central idea that success only bears one absolute definition, that is, to be
part of the elite class and to be worth a certain value according to the income they
make and their living standards. Living in a world that idolizes this stereotypical
impression of success (and monetary worth) will inevitably be challenging for any
individual to thoroughly comprehend the difference between his or her true self
importance, versus the unrealistic expectations that are engraved in his or her
illogical mind. A well respected Czech writer and philosopher, Vaclav Havel,

It is the unique connection between challenging labor and the favorable outcome
(in terms of one s wisdom) that makes the working industry good. In contrast, those
who work to meet the high demands of society s version of success will
undoubtedly fail in regards to their mentality. Clearly, Eighner supports Havel s idea
that one should take advantage of hard labor because of the spiritual benefits, not
for the physical products that result from expenses. Moreover, he explicitly
describes his aversion toward can scroungers, a symbol in the article that represents
the materialistic people in society who depend on their physical possessions. The
homeless man criticizes and accuses can scroungers of littering the dumpster area in
an effort to find cans and exchange them for small cash; in fact, they become so
specialized that they can see only cans (Eighner, 427). Can scroungers are dependent

where they become blind from differentiating between what is rational and
Spotify Impact
Streaming has had a massive impact on the the music industry within the last few
years. One of the most well known impacts for the music industry, was the launch
of Spotify in 2008, which has changed the way people listen to music ever since. It
has been argued that Spotify do not pay out fairly to artists but this can also be
argued to be due to bad contract deals with record companies. There are many
recognizable examples of why mainstream artists are against musicstreaming, Lady
Gaga claimed she only earned ВЈ108 from one million listens in 2010. Spotify is a
legal service and pays to license songs from all major record labels and although
Spotify pays royalties for all the listening that occurs on their service, they distribute
nearly 70% of revenues back to the right holders, such as; publishers, distributors and
the independent artists themselves. Therefore, as reported by the Independent

As explained by Spotify officials, they work around the basis that the more users
they get, the more money they can pay out (Knopper, 2014). Along with Spotify
there are many more streaming sites, such as Tidal and Apple Music. Most
recently, singer Adele has not allowed her latest album 25 available on many
streaming services but it is still expected to be the best selling album of the year.
Adele stated she would have allowed streaming services to the new album, if it was
restricted to pay but Apple refused to do this. It can be debated that mainstream
artists are restricting their music being put on streaming sites due to business or just
taking a stand. By artists not streaming their music, sites such as iTunes have a rise
on their digital sales. Any retailer prefers this as it is Encouraging more people to

Informative Essay On Baroque Music
Oddly shaped pearl. Not a name most would associate automatically with music.
Yet oddly shaped pearl is exactly where the word baroque comes from. Baroque is
derived from the Portuguese word barroco. This meaning is almost a foretelling of
the unique music style of this period. Ranging from 1600 to 1750, a new style
emerged. This one unlike the Renaissance period prior. The oddly shaped pearl
stormed Europe with musical style, instruments, composers, and life. First to have a
new period of music, the ebb and flow of the sound had to be different. For the first
time in music history, there was contrast in the dynamics and pitches. Terrace
dynamics became a popular way for composers to embrace the new style. Certain
sections of the piece would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Composers wrote for their employers. The Catholic Church supported and employer
quite a few of the baroque composers. Music has always been an important part in
services. Baroque music tends to be religious in nature due to this fact. Before the
baroque period, church and celebrations in the home of wealthy music patrons
were the only places to hear music. During the baroque period, composers would
perform publically. This led to the middle class actually hearing music for
entertainment for the first time. Music became a form of entertainment all people
wanted to be at. The music changed from only sacred and in church to a normality
in the secular life of the people. After this period, composers wrote music for the
common people to play and instruments are seen in homes. The baroque period set
all of this off. The oddly shaped pearl had quite an impact on Europe with its
musical style, instruments, composers, and life. The impact still resonates today
with our complex dynamics and solo/ensemble groups both chorally and
symphonically. How the period got its nickname, however, is a story to be told.
Whether historians choose to call the period an oddly shaped pearl or just the
baroque period the uniqueness still resonates. No other period has had as much
effect as that of the baroque period of

Of particular concern are the women who are celebrated and glamorized as
successful and well educated artists, actresses, and celebrities. We are so familiar
with slick, glossy photographs of women such as Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore,
rapper Lil Kim, or young actress Christina Ricci, that at first glance these portraits are
far more celebratory, depicting the women in thoughtful, atmospheric lighting, perfect
makeup and hair, beautiful clothing, and carefully framed shots. It is very clear these
are not tabloid photos, but instead artistic portraits, to be viewed as such. The
complication arises when we consider what statement Leibovitz is making about the
real nature of their careers, however, as seen in a careful evaluation of the postures
and presentations of these powerful and successful women.
Drew Barrymore is wearing a gauzy flesh colored dress, splayed out on a patch of
ultra green filtered grass. Her face is turned away from us, almost unrecognizable,
looking downward and over her shoulder, her arms listlessly at her side and
touching her shoulder. She is flat on the ground with her knees raised and spread

suffer from. The problem is, the people who suffer from this are not receiving the
proper treatment. They are relying on the VA to help them but as time goes on,
the VA has started providing less service. War veterans should be given immediate

Foil Characters In Othello
Shakespeare s Othello contains many interesting characters, that are often critiqued
as being flat, or serving solely as a foil. One of these characters is Desdemona,
interpreted by many as innocent and pure, someone who serves to contrast other
characters in the play, most obviously Iago and his wickedness. However through
diction, action, and open ended storylines, Shakespeare shapes Desdemonaas complex
and therefore creates a complex and intriguing work of literature.
From the moment Desdemona steps off the ship, we see not only her relationship
with Othello unfold, but her relationships with Iago and Cassio as well. It is clear that
Iago is setting Cassio and Desdemona up, but not once does Shakespeare conclude
that they are not having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Male and Female Body Ideals and Image Essays
Body image is defined as the subjective image of one s physical appearance
established both by self observation and observation by others ( Body Image ).
Ideal body image is constantly re evaluated throughout the ages. Unfortunately,
today, the ideal image is at its height in the American culture. Many factors, such as
magazine articles, television shows, and even childhood toys are said to have an
influence on body dissatisfaction. This negative self image has caused many
dangerous disorders in women and men of all ages. In the research of this topic,
there are many questions of body image among cultures and stereotypes that are yet
to be answered. Today, the ideal physical image is desperately sought after by
Americans. Women seek... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2009, it was debated whether the Barbie doll was helping or hurting the ideal
body perspectives of young children (Brady ).
The body dissatisfaction of much of the American population has led to extremely
unhealthy habits in order to restore self esteem. Children as young as 9 years old say
dieting makes them feel better about themselves ( Dissatisfaction ). Numerous mental
and eating disorders, such as Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa, have become
common. BN includes habits like vomiting, intense exercising, and fasting (
Dissatisfaction ). In 2006, America was ranked first in percentage of anorexic women
and second in percentage of bulimia nervosa (Soh, Touyz, and Surgenor 54 65).
Overall, the internalization of negative self esteem causes anxiety, frustration, and
depression.
I am very interested in conducting my first research study on the topic of body

information and opinions from people is not as easy as it seems (Sterk 24 29).
Sterk had to work on knowing her participants on a personal level in order to gain
their trust. She had to allow them time to realize that she is professional and, as
part of her research, she would keep their information confidential. This made me
wonder whether friends or strangers would be best for me to interview. My friends
already trust me, but would they take me as a professional? With strangers, I don t

Increase Magnesium Intake
Have you ever experienced feeling so weak and sleep deprived at work? It is
normal for anyone to feel the 3pm slump. Most of us have to live a busy life and we
start our day busy to finish the task all throughout the day and just when our day was
about to end, we might feel tired and lazy and it is not unusual.
We usually feel tired and sleepy during mid afternoon. Commonly, this is the timeof
the day when our energy reserved for the whole of the day is almost drained out.
However, we should not just let our body slouch in our desk once we feel exhausted.
Let s check out some of the quick ways to boost energy effectively.
Increase Your Magnesium Intake
Magnesium is one of the most essential mineral needed by the body. This mineral

This will ensure that your body gets enough minerals and vitamins needed by the
body to function well. The recommended magnesium intake for a woman is 300
milligrams and 350 milligrams for men. Try eating foods reach in magnesium to
reach the right level of magnesium in the body. Fish, almond, whole grains,
hazelnuts, cashews and other nuts are some of the foods that are rich in magnesium.
Power Nap
Taking a quick nap can help you recharge and regain your energy. There are
researches showing that pushing the brain to think too hard can cause energy zap.
Taking a nap can make you regain energy and reverse the effect of information
overload. Ten to thrity minutes of nap is enough to boost your energy and not to
throw off your sleep at night.
Don t Skip Meals
Over and over again, we are reminded not to skip meals; however, not all of us are
aware of the fallout of skipping meals . When you skip meals, you are messing up
your body s fueling method which means that you are not fueling your body with
enough energy to perform well all throughout the day. Skipping meals can cause
your blood sugar level to dive and sugar is needed by the body to keep your body
functions running. Without enough blood sugar level, you will more likely to feel

at the slower rate in poor metabolizers when compared to extensive metabolizers;
these results in higher serum concentrations of the tolterodine and negligible
concentrations of 5 HMT.

Following administration of 5 mg oral dose of tolterodine solution to healthy

Mr. Smith Goes To Washington Essay
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington Mr. Smith was too naive to survive as a senator
during the time the movie Mr. Smith Goes to Washington took place. Mr. Smith s
naivetГ© was most evident in his ambitious proposal to start a national boys camp.
However, when false allegations regarding Mr. Smith s motives for starting the camp
surfaced, Smithwas too idealistic to defend himself from the political machine that
accused him of acting in self interest. Making matters worse, SenatorSmith was a

This docility and willingness to vote according to the older Senators was most likely
caused by the new Senators fear of the political bosses. Mr. Smith, however, was
sheltered from knowing that the political bosses even existed and, as a result, was not
afraid to stand up for his beliefs. Mr. Taylor, a typical political boss of Smith s time,
had extreme power in his state and was able to tilt the public opinion of Senator
Smith. He did this through his control of the state media and connections within the
government. Taylor concocted evidence with the help of his government connections
alleging that Smith owned the property intended for the boy s camp and was only
promoting the camp bill so that he could sell his own property to the government at a
high price. Taylor then publicized these false accusations against Smith in the
newspapers that he controlled, thus persuading public opinion and ultimately causing
Smith to be accused of wrongdoing by a Senate committee. Throughout this entire
entourage, Smith was too inexperienced and naive to stand up against Taylor s
political machine and resorted instead to crying at the Lincoln Memorial. Smith only
returned to the Senate after Saunders convinced him that he should fight for his
rights. This situation ultimately proved once again that Senator Smith was too naive
to be an effective Senator. Smith did not realize that the other Senators were inclined
to believe the accusations against his character, and therefore,

What Is The Meaning Of The Grauballe Man By Seamus
Heaney
The Grauballe Man, a literary composition from North by Seamus Heaney,
meticulously scrutinizes the iconic bog body on display and presents his response
towards the violence and chaos revealed in the piece of artifact. The level of detail
provided by the poet is very intricate, almost as if he is venerating the bog queen.
Throughout the poem, Heaney uses various literally devices to create vivid images,
as well as expressing his distinction between the dead and alive. He uniformly alters
the context of the poem through noun phrases and striking terminology. The notions
of a man s barbaric actions, expressed within the poem are then associated with the
contemporary events happening between the borders of Northern Ireland and the
South of England.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is used to describe the unnatural shape of the head caused by a vicious action. The
hair of the Grauballe Man is described as rusted , the same rust which appears on
ancient metal weapons. Slashed is also used to describe the throat and could refer
to the slashing of swords. These medieval imagery refers to a period whereby
knights were forced to fight and protect their lord s kingdom from invasions of the
barbarians. It is also the period of the crusades, another sectarian war between two
major religions, Christianity and Islam. The poet proceeds to admire and
complement the bog body by comparing it to the Dying Gaul, an ancient Roman
statue. The piece of art, reminiscent to the pose of the Grauballe man, is a dignified
sculpture of a mortally wounded Gallic warrior regarded by the Romans as a barbarian
but portrayed as a noble savage . Heaney uses this image of a heroic death at the
hands of imperialists to emphasize the brutal political reality. Through the lines
hung in the scales , Heaney refers to another Roman statue, Lady Justice. The
roman goddess is an allegorical personification of the moral force in judicial
systems. The forces weighed in this case refers to the beauty of the visual artworks

Reflection Paper About Stress
For this week s essay I had the ability to learn about stress and the different categories
that people can fall into. People who experience stress more are categorized as type A
people why people who are less prone to these stresses are categorized as type B
people. After talking the quiz I learned that I scored a 267. This places me in the low
type A range. This was little bit of a surprise to me because I don t consider myself to
be an over stressed person. I then thought about what causes me stressand possible
ways of being able to change my life style to help lessen the stress I experience. In
this essay I am going to share about what some of my major stresses are, how I
reduce stress and finally I will share a time when I was more of a type A person than
a type B person.
When it comes to what stresses me in life it is the normal things at many college
students experience. I often find myself worrying about my grades and if I am
doing well in school. One major thing that I often find myself stressing over is if I
am on track to graduate in a decent amount of time. I understand that college is not
something that can be finished over night but I always want to make sure that I
am moving at a decent pace to ensure that I wont be here for ever. To help reduce
this stress I often check my degree audit report to ensure I am on track. Another way
I cope with this concern is by making sure I talk with my advisors when it comes
time to make my schedule for the next semester. I
Steel Industry Essay examples
1. Using the information contained in the case, conduct a five forces analysis of the
U.S. Steel industry. What conclusion can you draw from this?
Degree of Rivalry: Mini mills were being used by the foreign competition which
mean they were able to produce steel at less expensive rates passing that on ot their
customers.
Barriers to entry: Starting in the 1970 s since there were no trade barriers companies
overseas were able to manufacture and sell steel for a much lower price here in the
United States therefore affecting companies domestically.
Supplier power: Once steel became needed again suppliers were able to multiply
what they charged consumers and were able to produce large qantities at a time in
order to stay up with demand. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The level of the competition does vary thuogh because mini mills are able to produce
steel less expensively yet they are not able to produce in large quantities as the bigger
established steel companies. Each company needs to look at how they can improve
within themselves, the economy and against the competition.
3. Given the nature of competition in the U.S. steel industry, what must a steel maker
focus on in order to be proftable?
The U.S. steel industry would have to focus on technology. It should also focus on
the larger global scale in order to stay up with competition domestically and
internationally. If this does not happen then the United States will not be able to stay
ahead of the competition and many companies will once again go bankrupt.
4. How is the competitive strategy of the steel industry currently being affected by the
seven macro environmental forces?
It is currently being affected economically, technologically and legally. With the
economy being as low as it has and going through a recession many industries have
not been able to stay open. They have needed to cut back on expenses such as
supplies and employee costs. With new laws constantly passing they need to make
sure they are up to date with minimum wage and tax laws. It all factors in to whether
or not a business can stay open and make a profit at the same time.

Gender Roles In The Code Of Hammurabi
Mesopotamia was the first civilization ever known to humankind, which meansing
that a lot of evidence of their life style have been completely destroyed. However,
the code of Hammurabi, has provided vast information regarding their values and
everyday lives, as it shows the problems people faced at that time, and the specific
laws needed in order for individuals to live peaceful lives. Similarly to many other
ancient and modern civilizations, social status was very important. The law
emphasized the difference of importance between people of different social status.
For example, according to code 215, 216, and 217, if a physician saves the life of a
nobleman, he shall receive ten shekels, however, if the patient was a freed man,
the reward was five shekels, and if the patient was a slave, the reward was only two
shekels. This demonstrates that the lives of human being were not seen equally, and
as a result of social structure, the life of a nobleman was more important than the life
of a freed man or slave.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although women had a few rights, many women were seen as inferior in regards to
their husbands. As mentioned in code 137, 138, and 140, men can abandon their
wives, without a legitimate reason, as long as they pay the penalty price. However,
according to code 142, women must have a reasonable reason in order to divorce
their husbands, otherwise, they might be executed or turn into servants as mentioned
in code 141 and 143. This demonstrates the men have more freedom regarding the
election of their partners and the disposal of them as long as they could afford it,

Newspaper Style
Introduction
A newspaper headline is often the only thing that readers read in a newspaper, or at
least, it is the first thing that everyone notices in a newspaper. It serves as a indicator
for the reader that helps decide whether to continue on reading the whole text or to
skip it onto another one. Each headline should be a summary of the news which
follows. A headline should be a regular sentencestructure containing a subject and a
verb. It means that only lexical, not grammatical words are used. The major reason
for that is the space. Then the rule of a sentence may be broken, only minor sentences
are used, and such a headline can be rather difficult to understand. This happens on

Manifest Destiny, By John L. O Sullivan
In 1845, John L. O Sullivan, a newspaper reporter in New York City, coined the
phrase manifest destiny. O Sullivan claimed that it was the God given destiny of
the United States of America to spread over North America. O Sullivan
summarized his view this way: And that claim is by the right of our manifest
destiny to overspread and to possess the whole of the continent which Providence
has given us for the development of the great experiment of liberty and federated
self government entrusted to us. (OHC) The Idea of Manifest destiny may have
created a nation that could be considered the greatest of all nations. These few
words have caused a lot of trouble and a lot of good. Manifest Destiny has had a
huge effect on North America some of the events caused have been positive, but
manifest destiny has been used to promote racial superiority over all nonwhite
races living in areas desired by Americans, and was used to defended the reasons
for going west. The Americans believed in Manifest Destiny, it was a battle cry or

The Consequences Of Jutigment In Twelve Angry Men
In society, we have an obligation to our community to defend it by using judgment
to determine a person s innocence or guilt. It is a civic responsibility to make an
informed decision that is determined based on evidence to help come to a logical
conclusion. This essay argues that judgment in Twelve Angry Men is addressed by
the jurywho think rationally against a 16 year old kid facing the death sentence.
It looks at the gender and ethnicity of the jury and suggests that the environment the
jurors are placed in forwards their own judgment on themselves, making judgment
become an empathetic experience.
The placement of 12 men in a jury shows inconsistency towards female s input
upon what judgment should be made for the accused. Inserting 12 men together
only evokes testosterone against one another affecting their critical thinking and
causing drama. For Juror, 7 judgment is a fast process and is addressed in the
drama as Rose (121) states that, 7th Juror, Listen, I ll tell you something. I m a
little sick of this whole thing already. All this yakkin s gettin us nowhere so I m
going to break it up here. I m changing my vote to not guilty. 11th Juror, What kind
of man are you? You have sat here and voted guilty with everyone else because there
are some baseball tickets burning a hole in your pocket .
The drama is now directed away from the accused of murder and now towards Juror
7 that shows irony towards the relevance of importance. It is from the example above

The Importance Of Human Communication
Human Communication is defined as the process of making sense out of the world
and sharing that sense with others by creating meaning through the use of verbal and
nonverbal messages (Interpersonal communications textbook). Communication is an
essential skill for our day to day lives. It can be divided into several categories such
as; intrapersonal, communicationwith self, interpersonal, communication with others,
and nonverbal, our facial expressions and body language. Each of these categories of
communication intertwines, having a significant effect on how we express ourselves
to those around us. Interpersonal communicationis necessary for existence; However,
it is primarily affected by both our intrapersonal self and our nonverbal messages.
Interpersonal communication is built on the communication we have in relationships
with those around us. This is a crucial skill, especially in a career like nursing. These
skills provide a thriving work environment. When referring to the communication
skills in the medical field, NG Barakat states, Good interpersonal communication can
lead to many aspects such as a creating a friendly environment, improve productivity
among staff, effective time management, improvement in patient care, etc.
(interpersonal skills). Interpersonal communication is a skill nurses will need to
master to have a successful career; which is why negative feedback is crucial to

History of the Indian Rupee

The Treaty Of The European Union
On Thursday, June 23rd, 2016, the United Kingdom invoked Article 50 of the Treaty
of the European Union and voted to whether or not to leave the European Union. This
June 2016 referendum, which is most commonly known as Brexit, had the largest
voter turnout in the United Kingdom since the 1992 General Election, roughly 33.5
million voters. The referendum resulted fifty two percent in favor of leaving the
European Union. The separation process is difficult. By just agreeing to the
negotiations to separate from the European Union, there has been significant political
and economic impacts affecting the United Kingdomand the rest of the world. The
day following the vote that favored leaving the European Union, the Pound, Britain s
currency, went from $1.50 to $1.28, the lowest it s been in over three decades
(Kottasova). In an effort to not deal with the EU negotiations, David Cameron, the
United Kingdom s Prime Minister, resigned from his position on July 13th,
effectively ending his six year holding on the position. Brexit is an example of when
nationalism and frustration mix together and motivates a society to make a decision
possible which was unforeseeable prior. It can be deduced that the three contributing
factors to the success of the Brexit vote are Economics, Nationalism, and Political
Elitism. Understanding the history of the relationships between the European Union,

Overview Of The Socio-Cultural Cognitive Theory Of Lev...
The socio cultural cognitive theory of Lev Vygotsky emphasizes children s cognitive
development cannot be understood apart from cultural settings, and social
interactions and activities shape their ways to construct knowledge (Jahoda, Dagnan,
Stenfert Kroese, Pert, Trower, 2009; Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017;
Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). The notion of the zone of proximal development
(ZPD) is a well known concept of his theoretical framework (Santrock, Mackenzie
Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016; Ylvisaker Feeney, 2009). In
the follow paragraphs, I will brief explain this concept, clarify how it closely relates
to individual daily life, and discuss the limit of this notion with reflect on my
personal experience.
Vygotsky s concept of ZPD refers to the range of difficulties which children are
unable to master alone, but they could solve independently if adults or more mature
peers provide the appropriate support (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert,
Trower, 2009; Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne,
Perry, 2016). In teaching, the ZPD typifies the theoretical space between what
students already knew and what students are not ready to learn (Santrock,
Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). Two borders of
this space are represented as the lower limit of ZPD (e.g. the difficulties which

The 1996 film, Romeo and Juliet, is Baz Luhrmann s interpretation of William
Shakespeare s play by the same name. This film is part of Baz Luhrmann s Red
Curtain Trilogy where Luhrmann uses a theatre motif in each, with poetry and
language being the motif used in Romeo and Juliet. This play was originally written
by William Shakespearewho was an English poet, playwright, actor and a man who
is considered one of the greatest contributors to English literature as he invented
over 1700 now common words and wrote some of the world s most famous plays.
Romeo and Juliet was written in 1595 so Luhrmann had to give the film a
contemporary twist but keeps the original themes of forbidden love and young
romance to appeal to a modern audience. In the... Show more content on

The costumes used in Luhrmann s film are very modern as using the original
Elizabethan style costumes would make the film more historical and therefore would
not appeal to a younger audience. Luhrmann has used two distinctive costume styles
to help the audience distinguish the difference between the two families. For the
Montague family, Luhrmann has put the characters in unbuttoned, bright coloured
Hawaiian shirts and given the males short blonde hair to link to these characters
beachside lifestyles. For the Capulet family, Luhrmann has used stylish but sinister
looking costumes such as vests, and silver heeled boots to show the audience how
these men are similar to Mexican drug
Essay on Against Sweatshops
Some companies have acceded to public pressure to reduce or end their use of
sweatshops. Such firms often publicize the fact that their products are not made with
Anti globalization activists and environmentalists also deplore transfer of heavy
industrial manufacturing (such as chemical production) to the developing world.
Although chemical factories have little in common with sweatshops in the original
sense, detractors describe them as such and claim that there are negative
environmental and health impacts (such as pollution and birth defects, respectively)
on workers and the local community.
Various groups support or embody the anti sweatshopmovement today. The National

Because of the relatively higher value placed on male education, young women are
often encouraged by their families to leave school and migrate to urban areas or
Export Processing Zones (EPZ) to work in the garment industry. As outsiders in a new
community, these young women lack the legal or family support they might receive
in their own community and therefore, have to spend a larger amount of income on
supporting themselves. Consequently, these young women who are no longer
receiving an education often find it hard to earn enough money to send back to their
family.[21]
The division of labour in sweatshops is gendered because the vast majority of
workers are young women. The problems faced by many workers are also gendered
because gender based notions of what is acceptable inform working conditions. Thus
medical or maternity leave, employer / employee relations and the right to organize
can all become gender biased. Consequently, the negative aspects of sweatshops have
a disproportionate impact on women. Because of this, some argue that efforts to
combat the poor working conditions in sweatshops should focus more on
empowering women[citation needed]. Although company led attempts to improve
the working conditions in sweatshops such as the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI)
have had some successes, others criticize the ETI as gender blind [citation needed].

The Pros And Cons Of Usucapio Laws
In Roman law, usucapio laws allowed someone who was in possession of a good
without title to become the lawful proprietor if the original owner didn t show up
after some time (one or two years), unless the good was obtained illegally (by theft
or force). Stemming from Roman law and its successor, the Napoleonic Code,
adopted as the basis of law in France, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain,
and also, in part, by the Netherlands and Germany, adverse possessiongenerally
recognizes two time periods for the acquisition of property: 30 years and some lesser
time period, depending on the bona fides of the possessor and the location of the
parties involve. In the United States, for instance the time limit on an owner being

The person may not occupy the land secretively or make efforts to remain
undetected. The occupation must not be covert. It should be clear to any normal
person who inspects the property that someone is using the property in sort
reasonable fashion. In other words, if the titled owner were to visit the property, it
would be apparent that another is making use of the land. Many states refer to
inclosing the property within a fence. A landowner is not required, however, to have
actual knowledge of the occupation. The person occupying the land must act as the
owner by engaging in acts consistent with the property s purpose. Such acts must
generally be observed by others to be typical of that expected of an owner. The
actions of the disseisor must change the state of the land (in the case of non
residential property, taking such actions as clearing, mowing, planting, harvesting
fruit of the land, logging or cutting timber, mining, fencing, pulling tree stumps,
running livestock and constructing buildings or other improvements) or, if the
property is residential, maintaining the property for its intended use (taking such
actions as mowing the yard, trimming trees and hedges, changing locks, repairing or
replacing fixtures such as a swimming pool, sprinkler system, or appliances), all to
the exclusion of its true owner. In Cone v. West Virginia Pulp Paper, the United
States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit held that Cone failed to establish actual
possession by occasionally visiting the land and hunting on it, because his actions did
not change the land from a wild and natural
The Roman Empire And The Rise And Fall Of The Papacy
For centuries the Vatican has occupied a unique position in history, exercising both
sacred and secular power in activities that have generated as much fascination as
controversy. Yet, for most people it remains a mysterious institution. One whose
motives and maneuvers are not easily understood. From the struggles of the very
first Christians to the challenges and scandals of today, the Catholic Church has
wrestled with how to organize itself, express its beliefs, and nurture its members.
The church has grown from a handful of disciples in the first century to over one
billion members in the twenty first, resulting in profound changes that demand a
theological response. A candid but rational inquiry into the progress and
establishment of Christianity may be considered a very essential part of the history
of the Roman Empire and the rise and fall of the papacy. The history of the Papacy
began over two thousand years ago with the reign of John Paul II. Peter, the humble
fisherman of Galilee and an Apostle of Jesus Christ, became the figure head and the
basis for the institution that has outlined not only the Roman and Byzantine empires
but also the Carolingian Gaul, medieval Germany, Spain, Britain, the Third Reich of
Hitler, and the Soviet Union. Jesus tells Peter, And I say also unto thee, that thou art
Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not
prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven:
Lilo And Stitch Essay
For years Disney has been making movies that kids all around the world enjoy
watching. Lilo and Stitch is one such movie. On the surface, the audience follows
both Lilo and Stitch, surfing and taking down the villain, but was that really all it was
about? There are many small details that can easily be overlooked, but in actuality
hold great significance. During the entire movie, these insignificant details are what
tied the story together.
The first detail of non importance is Pudge, Lilo s fish, who was known for his
fondness of peanut butter sandwiches. Lilo would feed Pudge a weekly peanut
butter sandwich because she claimed he could control the weather. Lilo was often
late to her dance class because she was so desperate to make sure Pudge had his
sandwich. At first it comes off that Lilo s character is either strange or has a vivid
imagination. However, as the movie progresses, the true reasons to giving Pudge his
sandwich is revealed to Stitch. Lilo explains to Stitch that her parents passed away
because of a storm. After learning the new information about Lilo and her family it
makes it easier to put the pieces together. Lilo feeds Pudge a peanut butter sandwich
because he controls the weather and Lilo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It had an even deeper meaning that not many people noticed at first. Pudge may
have just been a fish to some, but to Lilo he had the power to save people from
disaster. The names Lilo and Stitch were not random choices, they held strong
meaning throughout the movie and tied familial themes together. Families were
formed and tested during the plot, proving the strength of ohana and its ability to
create bonds between individuals. Lilo and Stitch taught children and families all
around the world what ohana really stands for and showed them how important
family is. It taught them to never turn their back on family and to always show
kindness to others who may be

Paper #1
In Grandview Boulevard, completed in 1974 CE, the artist utilizes painterly
brushstrokes. The shadows of the trees that are painted dark purple appear to have
more painterly aspects than the rest of the composition. From far away, the painting
seems smooth and sleek, but up close, the individual thick brushstrokes can be seen.
The implied texture of the leaves in the painting is sturdy and prickly, and the
texture of the yellowed grass appears to be dry and coarse, however, the actual
texture of the painting itself is smooth. The artist also uses both curvilinear and
geometric lines. In looking at the trees in the painting, they are composed of
primarily geometric lines (excluding the leafy top) that run in a ... Show more content

The tree on the bottom right of the painting demonstrates modeling, which is the
contrast between light and shadow in a work. The shading on the left side of the
tree is darker than the right side of the tree. The tree s local color (true color) is a
light tan (bark of the tree) in comparison to its perceptual color (implied), which is
a darker gray/brown. The painting demonstrates diminution of scale, for the long
palm trees at the top of the composition appear smaller than the long palm trees
placed lower on the page. Not only does the artist use diminution of scale, but they
also use vertical location. The bushier palm trees n the back left side of the
composition all appear to be the same size, but because some are placed higher on
the page, they appear to be further away than the ones placed lower on the page.
The artist use of overlapping helps achieve perception of depth. By overlapping the
trees it makes it look like the painting has much more depth. Because of all of this,
the painting portrays deep depth, not only because of the multiple overlapping and
diminution of scale, but also because of the multiple horizon lines, causing the
painting to look like the road goes on over the hills. This painting is a narrative, and
its focal point is down the road. As the roads begin large and gets smaller, the eyes
follow the road until it ends. The artist uses both thick and thin lines in

EBay and the Existence of Firms
As a global online auction market, eBay provides people a new way to do online
shopping, not only by purchasing a product at a certain price, but also by the unique
auction format. Through auction procedure, sellers can earn more than the base price
in their mind and buyers can bid the price up to the most they can afford.
By setting up a convenient platform to gather sellers and buyers together, eBay
reduces lots of searching costs as other websites expend. However, there are still two
major problems which can lead to transaction costs for an unregulated online auction
market: Adverse selection and moral hazard. Adverse selection occurs when

Whigs vs Democrats
Jacksonian Democracy amp; Whig Values Emerging from the Jeffersonian
Democratic Republicans in the 1830 s, came a new party, led by the famous
Andrew Jackson. This new party derived the same principle of appealing to the
average American that their predecessors did. The Jacksonian Democrats took it a
step further though, and boasted their dedication to the common man by insisting
that the government bowed to the will of the people. They were also a proponent of
smaller government, and that all positions of the state be elected directly by the
populous. The main principle of the Jacksonian Democrats, was the majority is to
govern , in which Jackson himself also stated that [the people had the right] of

time. The party was quite homogeneous as well, as it drew on evangelical
Protestantism, but the Democrats were not, and more likely to accept cultural
Loss, a Common Theme in Sweetheart of the Song Trabong

Mark Fossie from the Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong and Troy Maxson from
Fences are two different literary characters in two different types of literary work
that have many similarities. The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong written by Tim
O Brien is a fiction story. Fences by August Wilson is a play. Both of these literature
works have a theme of loss, whether it is of the character himself or someone the
character loves deeply. The losscan be a physical loss of the person through death or
a mental loss of the person through a tough breakup that the character brought on
himself. The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong ends with Mark losing his sweetheart

He is controlling and wants her to stay by his side all the time. Mark being over
controlling is a method of foreshadowing that hints to the reader that by the end of
the story, they will not be together. Troy Maxson from Fences has a wife named
Rose who is ten years younger than him. Throughout the play, there are instances
where Troy controls her. Armstrong says, Troy is very strong and set in his ways.
He is a very hardened man who has had to survive on his own since he was young.
He says exactly what he feels, regardless of how they may affect the person, who
can be his wife or sons (Armstrong, 17). When he is talking to Jim Bono, his friend,
he tells her to go away. In the beginning of the play, he talks to Bono and she comes
outside. Troy says, What you worried about what we getting in for? This is men
talk, woman. When he says men talk this symbolizes that he thinks of Rose and
women as being lower than men. He thinks that she will not understand what they
are talking about and he would not want her to anyways. Troy also mentions Death
a lot. He claims that he has wrestled with Death. He says, he wrestled with Death
for three days and three nights and he is still standing here to tell people about it.
Rose says, every time Troy tells that story he finds different ways to tell it. Different
things to make up about it. Troy be talking about that stuff and half the time do not
even know what he be talking about. This gets Troy mad. He tells Rose
Case Study Of Agarwood
Introduction
As stated by the case study, we have just begun our new jobs as the conservationist
of Aquilaria malaccensis in Sarawak. So, what is conservationist? Firstly,
conservationist is a person who works to protect and preserve animals, plants, and
natural resources. Meanwhile, A. malaccensis is a large evergreen tree which can be
found in mixed forest habitat usually 0 to 1000m above the sea level. Thus, as the
conservationist of A. malaccensis, we are the people who are responsible to protect
and preserve the A. malaccensis.
In addition, A. malaccensis is in the family Thymelacaeaceae where it is one of 15
tree species in the genus Aquilaria. This species can be found in South and Southeast
Asia which includes Malaysia, Indonesia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The local sectors such as () have to find efforts to overcome the high demand of
agarwood s product. Scientists from the sector need to do a research on the tree so
that it can be cultivated in large scale yield (Mohd. Paiz, K. 2006). Thus, production
of the agarwood product can be increased, and at the same time the Aquilaria trees
can be conserved.
Question 5 One of the important requirements for a successful germplasm collecting
mission is planning. Planning is the essential to the success because detailed
information about the target species should be collected such as the distribution of
the Aquilaria species, genetic variation within target species, breeding system, seed
storage characteristics, collecting techniques and background information on
physical, biotic and human environment. A collecting programme must have its own
flexibility. This is to allow missions to be undertaken or postponed at relatively short
notice. The mission also should be flexible enough to make changes in the itinerary at
short notice in the
Thesis On The Jungle
The jungle by Upton Sinclair has made me realize how history shaped what america
is today. It was in this book that raised the spotlight on many topics including: meat
handling, minimum wage, workers compensation, sexual harassment, child labor and
most importantly the right to express one s thoughts. Now we live in a country that
not only honors our freedom but respects and looks over our health. The jungletakes
place in the 1900s when over 9 million immigrants were flocking to America
searching for what was known as the American dream. So was this particular lutheran
family that came to America for just that. Not knowing that in the end they would be
contributors of the awareness and importance of checking meat handlers.
In the expository Sinclair shows us how happy he is to move to america with his
whole family. It starts with him in his wedding day and how everyone looked happy
and excited to have come to America. Sinclair shows us how all the immigrants
including him start getting on the bus to transport to america. He uses juxtaposition
by comparing the animals with the immigrants. He tells us that just like the animals
running down the shoot hoping for the good like the immigrants boarding the boats
to go to america ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Oedipus Rex, by Sophocles My parents are really well intended, and I think their way of dealing with things is denial and guilt. Nobody wanted to talk about it. But all I did was blame myself. This quote, from actress Teri Hatcher about her own childhood also relates to Oedipus s situation from Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. SophoclesOedipusRex tells the story of a monarch named Oedipus whowho becomes the unfortunate victim of circumstances beyond his control. In Oedipus Rex, Oedipus downfall is not a result of excessive hubris or his actions, but rather his parents disgraceful actions and uncontrollable aspects of fate. Oedipus parents actions and decisions are a major element in Oedipus tragic downfall. Before Oedipus is born, Laius and Jocasta, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The driver struck Oedipus to get him to move out of the way, but this enraged the young man, who continued to fight and kill the driver and the man he was transporting King Laius. (Oedipus 1) At this revelation, Oedipus discovers that he fulfilled the prophecy of the Oracle, and blinds himself in his grief. Laius and Jocasta should never have abandoned Oedipus on Mount Cithaeron. If Jocasta and Laius had raised Oedipus instead of Polybus and Merope, then Oedipus wouldn t have inadvertently killed his father or unknowingly married his mother and the prophecy foretold by the Oracle at Delphi would never have come true. Oedipus could not control the fact that his parents abandoned him on Mount Cithaeron nor did he intentionally marry his mother. Jocasta and Laius and Oedipus tragic downfall by trying to prevent the prophecy from coming true and allowing their own selfishness get in the way of doing what was best for their child. They were so concerned about their own lives that they did not care about Oedipus and cruelly cast him aside. Laius and Jocasta s ineptness as parents are primary causes of Oedipus defeat; Oedipus was in no way responsible for his parents actions and decisions. Random acts of fate also play an important role in Oedipus tragedy. Fate is also an important

This theory takes into consideration factors such as social class, race, ethnicity, gender, and age. Throughout history, there has been inequalities between the rich and the poor, males and females, white people and people of color; these inequalities are still ongoing today in several societies around the world. Furthermore, this social inequality causes conflict since it benefits specific groups of people and harms others. The social conflict theory has two main types: the gender conflict theory and the raceconflict theory. Girls are less likely than boys to die before or immediately after birth, and males tend to become more individualistic and aggressive later on which contributes to them having three times the risk of accidents, four times the rate of suicide, and five times the risk of dying from a homicide (CD, 2012). Also, women on average outlive men by around five years. Later in life, men are also more likely to get heart disease. There are also cultural and behavioral reasons to why there are inequalities in health and medicine between men and women. Men naturally seeks to be more masculine, while women naturally seek femininity. Thus, young men are more likely to smoke, consume alcohol, and partake in risky activities since they associate it with masculinity. As a result, males have higher rates of accidental and non accidental injuries (Broom, 2012). Women, however, tend to take more care about their health and body since they have been taught by society that it is more feminine. As a result, more women suffer from eating disorders than men. In the novel Survival in Auschwitz, a man named Primo tells his story about being a Jew during the Holocaust. He starts the novel when he was found after hiding for some time, and describes his day to day life until he is liberated. As the book goes on there are many examples of the brutal treatment and dehumanization of the Jews that the Nazis were a part of on a day to day basis. Right away at the start of the book Primo is taken from his hiding place and is forced to go to a concentration camp (Levi 14). They are transported in small train cars and do not get hardly any food or water (Levi 19). This lack of food and water stays constant throughout

Evaluation Of A Preschool Classroom During Play Time In an a preschool classroom during play time, you may see boys playing with cars and dressing up as firefighters and police officers while the girls are playing make believe in the kitchen and folding laundry. The difference in how children may play and/or interact is clear to see. At a very young age, children already have started to associate different toys, clothing, jobs, behaviors, and/or colors with gender. What accounts for accounts for this in children? Reading about gender typing in the book made me become more interested in what factors contribute to developing gender typing in children. The book, in my opinion, gives a very vague description of what really develops gender typing in children. My belief is that gender typing is a very complex concept and there are many factors that go into the different aspects of gender typing in children. In a multidimensional study in gender typing in preschoolers and parents, Patricia Turner and Judit Gervai assessed the attitudes, personality, preferences, and cultural differences of the selected participants. Within the study, 82 four year old girls and 79 four year old boys along with their parents participated. Approximately half of the participants came from preschools in Cambridge, England and Budasqet, Hungary (Turner Gervai, 1995). The procedure used for the children was for each child to be shown black and white drawings of six male and female typical, and eight neutral typical toys. Children in this experiment were

Dubner, is made up of a series of scenarios in which an economist and a journalist apply basic principles of economics to demonstrate that information can often expose interesting truths about how the world operates. It uses the science of economics and specific data to challenge our assumptions about everything. In the book Freakonomicsby Levitt Dubner, compares and contrasts two groups of people or things by using their informational data. This is called juxtaposition, which means the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect. Levitt and Dubner look at the world in a way that is both surprising, occasionally funny, and always enlightening. They do so by drawing unexpected connections between two greatly different but complementary aspects of sociology and economics, such as sumo wrestlers to school teachers, KKK members to the real estate agents, and lastly, crack gangs to McDonalds. In chapter one of Freakonomics, the comparison between school teachers and sumo wrestlers is a juxtaposition that was introduced in this book. The Chicago Public School System is an example of how teachers were willing to cheat, thus manipulating their students test results in order to obtain money compensations and prestige. The possibility of promotion or higher pay, provoked teachers to inflate their student s test scores. Whether through writing the answers to Standardized tests on the

These three groups established independent communities by the interior mountainous regions of the island. To survive the runaway slaves and Maroons farmed and occasionally raid the plantations. In May 1760, a slave overseer by the name of Tacky led a group of African slaves in a revolt to take over plantations while killing the slave owners. Tacky and the slaves marched to a shop in Fort Haldane where they killed the shopkeeper and stole barrels of gunpowder and firearms. That night hundreds of other slaves joined Tacky and his followers. There was a large celebration for their success in gaining the weapons the need. A group of Obeahman (witch doctor) formed a circle around the camp, throwing powder at the men claiming that it would protect them from injury and death and proclaiming that a Obeahman cannot be killed. The slave s confidence was now very high. The British troops along with Maroons who were bounded by the treaty to stop the rebellion soon showed up. When the troop hear of the Obeahman s claimed immortality they captured, killed and hung his head on a stick for all to see. The rebels saw this and most of the slaves lost their previous confidence and returned to their plantations while Tacky and a few men ran into the woods. They were chased by the Maroons, Tacky was shot and then his head was cut off for proof of the defeat. The rest of his men were found in a cave near Tacky Falls, they committed suicide instead of returning to

It is the ability to blend information and make decisions that will later be implemented in the situation. Evidence based decision making involves choosing from a variety of possibilities and combining the knowledge through research and the scientific evaluation of one s practice. Rationale for Framework The CAEN Decision Making Model for Nursing Practice Framework was chosen for this analysis due to its incorporation of foundational knowledge, thinking processes, context and decision making processes. The model places major emphasis on the quality of relationships, salience and pattern recognition, healing initiatives, critical reflection to analyze a situation pre and post and to value different ways of knowing. The client along with the nurse is intertwined in the center of the framework highlighting the importance of their relationship. All critical decision making for nursing practice is the client s lived experience of health and healing; which is essential to the inquiry process where a nurse will enter into and become engaged in the new relationship. In this situation, being directly involved with the patient provided an opportunity to create a relationship on the basis of providing health and healing measures (CAEN, 2008). Coming to Know the Client The first stage of this framework is coming to know the client, which requires the nurse to understand that the personal meaning of health and healing is individualized and the context of this area is highly subjective. Gillespie and Paterson (2009) state that clinical decision making processes are triggered by recognition of a cue from a patient (p. 167). In the case of this patient, the decision was based off a cue; a change
  • 13. Eighner s Model Of Success Essay To be authentically pleased with oneself is extremely difficult to meet, especially through the eyes of a superficial being. In modern society, numerous people revolve around the central idea that success only bears one absolute definition, that is, to be part of the elite class and to be worth a certain value according to the income they make and their living standards. Living in a world that idolizes this stereotypical impression of success (and monetary worth) will inevitably be challenging for any individual to thoroughly comprehend the difference between his or her true self importance, versus the unrealistic expectations that are engraved in his or her illogical mind. It is the unique connection between challenging labor and the favorable outcome (in terms of one s wisdom) that makes the working industry good. In contrast, those who work to meet the high demands of society s version of success will undoubtedly fail in regards to their mentality. Clearly, Eighner supports Havel s idea that one should take advantage of hard labor because of the spiritual benefits, not for the physical products that result from expenses. Moreover, he explicitly describes his aversion toward can scroungers, a symbol in the article that represents the materialistic people in society who depend on their physical possessions. The homeless man criticizes and accuses can scroungers of littering the dumpster area in an effort to find cans and exchange them for small cash; in fact, they become so specialized that they can see only cans (Eighner, 427). Can scroungers are dependent characters who are completely devoted into meeting their addictive needs to the point where they become blind from differentiating between what is rational and

One of the most well known impacts for the music industry, was the launch of Spotify in 2008, which has changed the way people listen to music ever since. It has been argued that Spotify do not pay out fairly to artists but this can also be argued to be due to bad contract deals with record companies. There are many recognizable examples of why mainstream artists are against musicstreaming, Lady Gaga claimed she only earned ВЈ108 from one million listens in 2010. Spotify is a legal service and pays to license songs from all major record labels and although Spotify pays royalties for all the listening that occurs on their service, they distribute nearly 70% of revenues back to the right holders, such as; publishers, distributors and the independent artists themselves. • 15. Informative Essay On Baroque Music Oddly shaped pearl. Not a name most would associate automatically with music. Yet oddly shaped pearl is exactly where the word baroque comes from. Baroque is derived from the Portuguese word barroco. This meaning is almost a foretelling of the unique music style of this period. Ranging from 1600 to 1750, a new style emerged. We are so familiar with slick, glossy photographs of women such as Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore, rapper Lil Kim, or young actress Christina Ricci, that at first glance these portraits are far more celebratory, depicting the women in thoughtful, atmospheric lighting, perfect makeup and hair, beautiful clothing, and carefully framed shots. It is very clear these are not tabloid photos, but instead artistic portraits, to be viewed as such. The complication arises when we consider what statement Leibovitz is making about the real nature of their careers, however, as seen in a careful evaluation of the postures and presentations of these powerful and successful women. The Treaty Of The European Union On Thursday, June 23rd, 2016, the United Kingdom invoked Article 50 of the Treaty of the European Union and voted to whether or not to leave the European Union. This June 2016 referendum, which is most commonly known as Brexit, had the largest voter turnout in the United Kingdom since the 1992 General Election, roughly 33.5 million voters. The referendum resulted fifty two percent in favor of leaving the European Union. The separation process is difficult. By just agreeing to the negotiations to separate from the European Union, there has been significant political and economic impacts affecting the United Kingdomand the rest of the world. The day following the vote that favored leaving the European Union, the Pound, Britain s currency, went from $1.50 to $1.28, the lowest it s been in over three decades (Kottasova). In an effort to not deal with the EU negotiations, David Cameron, the United Kingdom s Prime Minister, resigned from his position on July 13th, effectively ending his six year holding on the position. Brexit is an example of when nationalism and frustration mix together and motivates a society to make a decision possible which was unforeseeable prior. It can be deduced that the three contributing factors to the success of the Brexit vote are Economics, Nationalism, and Political Elitism. The socio cultural cognitive theory of Lev Vygotsky emphasizes children s cognitive development cannot be understood apart from cultural settings, and social interactions and activities shape their ways to construct knowledge (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, Trower, 2009; Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). The notion of the zone of proximal development (ZPD) is a well known concept of his theoretical framework (Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016; Ylvisaker Feeney, 2009). In the follow paragraphs, I will brief explain this concept, clarify how it closely relates to individual daily life, and discuss the limit of this notion with reflect on my personal experience. Vygotsky s concept of ZPD refers to the range of difficulties which children are unable to master alone, but they could solve independently if adults or more mature peers provide the appropriate support (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, Trower, 2009; Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). In teaching, the ZPD typifies the theoretical space between what students already knew and what students are not ready to learn (Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). Two borders of this space are represented as the lower limit of ZPD (e.g. the difficulties which children are able to master alone, what students already knew), and the upper limit of

Because of the relatively higher value placed on male education, young women are often encouraged by their families to leave school and migrate to urban areas or Export Processing Zones (EPZ) to work in the garment industry. As outsiders in a new community, these young women lack the legal or family support they might receive in their own community and therefore, have to spend a larger amount of income on supporting themselves. Consequently, these young women who are no longer receiving an education often find it hard to earn enough money to send back to their family.[21] The division of labour in sweatshops is gendered because the vast majority of workers are young women. The problems faced by many workers are also gendered because gender based notions of what is acceptable inform working conditions. Thus medical or maternity leave, employer / employee relations and the right to organize can all become gender biased. Consequently, the negative aspects of sweatshops have a disproportionate impact on women. Because of this, some argue that efforts to combat the poor working conditions in sweatshops should focus more on empowering women[citation needed]. Although company led attempts to improve the working conditions in sweatshops such as the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) have had some successes, others criticize the ETI as gender blind [citation needed]. The Roman Empire And The Rise And Fall Of The Papacy For centuries the Vatican has occupied a unique position in history, exercising both sacred and secular power in activities that have generated as much fascination as controversy. Yet, for most people it remains a mysterious institution. One whose motives and maneuvers are not easily understood. From the struggles of the very first Christians to the challenges and scandals of today, the Catholic Church has wrestled with how to organize itself, express its beliefs, and nurture its members. The church has grown from a handful of disciples in the first century to over one billion members in the twenty first, resulting in profound changes that demand a theological response. A candid but rational inquiry into the progress and establishment of Christianity may be considered a very essential part of the history of the Roman Empire and the rise and fall of the papacy. The history of the Papacy began over two thousand years ago with the reign of John Paul II. Peter, the humble fisherman of Galilee and an Apostle of Jesus Christ, became the figure head and the basis for the institution that has outlined not only the Roman and Byzantine empires but also the Carolingian Gaul, medieval Germany, Spain, Britain, the Third Reich of Hitler, and the Soviet Union. Jesus tells Peter, And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. The painting demonstrates diminution of scale, for the long palm trees at the top of the composition appear smaller than the long palm trees placed lower on the page. Not only does the artist use diminution of scale, but they also use vertical location. The bushier palm trees n the back left side of the composition all appear to be the same size, but because some are placed higher on the page, they appear to be further away than the ones placed lower on the page. The artist use of overlapping helps achieve perception of depth. By overlapping the trees it makes it look like the painting has much more depth. Because of all of this, the painting portrays deep depth, not only because of the multiple overlapping and diminution of scale, but also because of the multiple horizon lines, causing the painting to look like the road goes on over the hills.
