A presentation I gave on e-learning in Algeria and how my project eduDz helps its development. It was given on October 13th at Campus Party Milenio (Grenada).
Stephen Harvey (Learning Resources Centre Manager) and Sam Kennedy (e-Learning Coordinator) reflect on previous attempts to raise awareness of the importance of online safety amongst learners and staff at Hertford Regional College
Eliademy is an online educational platform with a nobel cause. This is a description of our way to our aim "democratising education with technology". We are actively working with different NGOs and NPOs to support and collaborate for us to take one step further to the fulfilment of our aim.
You have mobile computing devices in your classrooms and school - now what? This session looks at embedding Web 2.0 pedagogy across the curriculum to support learning while mobile. The future is here, ubiquitous computing in conjunction with online learning modes encourages communication, collaboration and creativity. It also promotes independence and higher order thinking for problem solving in the classroom. Don\'t touch that off button!

Leadership for Engaging Students Digitally: It's not about the Angry Birds!ewilliams65
How can leaders effectively leverage technology for learning? If we have pockets of best practices, how do we scale up? What specific action steps can leaders take to build a shared vision, facilitate professional learning, provide access 24/7/365, and create polices that support rather than undercut technology use? This file includes numerous links to useful resources.

Traditionally evidence in education has been captured through text and writing. This has limited how evidence could be represented, especially when demonstrating practical skills and applied knowledge.
Eportfolios and mobile devices are being used to visually capture evidence within the Australian vocational education and training (VET) sector to demonstrate people’s exiting skills when entering a course or while remaining in the workplace.
Capturing evidence through video, audio and digital images is allowing the better representation of a person’s skills and ability, thus providing cost saving to learners, employers and training providers and enabling people who are less text-literate to gain a qualification.
This evidence collection method is also allowing individuals to develop their digital literacy skills by being supported to effectively represent themselves online. This evidence is also being re-used and re-purposed by learners to gain employment or a promotion; entry into higher qualifications and/or gain credit/articulation; as well as applying for grants or entering exhibitions.
This presentation was made at Mozilla London as part of Badge the UK. During the day we looked at how Digital Badges are being used to capture and evidence achievements both in and out of school and sharing what we have learnt.
More and more workplaces are looking for effective ways to train their staff which doesn’t require them to travel long distances or being away from the organisation for long periods of time. Implementing workplace online training (iWOT) is a natural fit to meet this need, but not all training organisations have the knowledge, skills and experiences to make it happen.
This presentation provides an overview of what is required to implement, support and facilitate workplace online training based on case studies and resources already being used to support this type of training.

Student autonomy for flat learning and global collaborationJulie Lindsay
The focus of this presentation is on developing student autonomy to build learning networks and communities of practice for collaboration, both local and global. We talk about the teacher as a connected and collaborative global learner, but we need to redesign the learning paradigm further to connect students in K-12 more independently with others. The role of the teacher as activator or ‘learning concierge’ for student network building is crucial. Knowledge construction via a non-hierarchical approach means the student must also learn to take responsibility for professional learning modes and not be reliant on the teacher as the conduit.
Join Julie to explore new ideas for collaborative learning to support deeper understanding about the world while working with the world.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
