4G networks and iPads were used to enhance a history field trip in Amsterdam by allowing students to access heritage content from 1540, compare topics using augmented reality apps, and have a lecturer's presentation streamed to their devices. Key lessons learned included that the 4G network and iPads helped intensify learning during fieldwork and improved student satisfaction, assignments and group discussions supported student-centric learning, the 4G network was stable, and integrating content into the learning design was essential. However, some apps like Vistory were still in progress and pedagogical design could be improved by rethinking assignments and better preparing students on using the apps and iPads before field trips.
