INTRODUCTION
Many of them use internet or „web‟ as a source of
information. The web is increasingly used both as a learning tool to support formal
programmers and learning . It shows effective use of technology in education field
In the new generation world the education is fully on the
hands of web based learning. It is also called online learning. E-learning involves
using primarily internet and one or more technologies through open broadcast,
satellite, audio/video conference etc… Mainly if u can alternative to traditional
classroom learning
WEB BASED LEARNING
• Web based learning is often called online learning or E- learning because it
includes online course content
• Discussion forms via email, video conferencing, and live lectures are all
possible through web
• Web based courses may also provide static pages such as printed course
materials
WEB BASED PLATFORMS
➢ Web based platforms are web based services that can be used to share
structured learning materials and couries with an unlimited audience
➢ It offers learners unparalleled access to instructional resources
➢ It makes learning experiences open, flexible and distributed, providing
opportunities for engaging, interactive and efficient instruction
➢ Use of web based instruction increases the training and educational domains
➢ Computer based instructions, similar to web based instructions, is more
appropriate benchmark than classroom instructions
➢ It uses technologies or tools in learning process
➢ Web based learning is associated with learning materials deliverd in a web
browser, materials are packaged on CD-ROM or other media
➢ It uses World Wide Web as a communication medium and supporting
technology
➢ Online education, internet based education, virtual education, education via
computer mediated communication, tele learning, distance learning, etc… are
considered as web based learning
➢ Web based learning can be formal or informal. Formal web based learning
is purposed and learning activities are organized by teacher. Informal
learning takes place while you are searching materials from internet
➢ It is based on self-paced, depending on your goals and ambition to learn ➢
The important web based platforms are
▪ Google classroom
▪ Edx
▪ Udemy
▪ E-mail
▪ Skill share
▪ Coursera
FEATURES OF WEB BASED LEARNING
1. Flexibility and time
✓ It can be used at any place that there is internet access
✓ Individuals can learn at their own pace and around their own
schedules within a given time
✓ Individuals can take lifelong learning without quitting jobs
2. Hearing and understanding
✓ Individuals may feel more in control of their own, thus possibly
taking on more responsibility
✓ Individuals gain access to real world examples, databases,
experts and additional source of information online
3. Cost
✓ Costs are cheaper due to eliminating travel and facilities fees
✓ Web based learning can be easily updated and recycled for
additional training
4. Accessibility and equal opportunities for all
✓ It equalizes delivery of materials for all individual
✓ Opportunities to attend training are created for individuals with
disabilities who may be excluded due to time, mobility etc…
✓ Multimedia such as graphics, video and audio can enhance
learning and understanding
ADVANTAGES OF WEB BASED LEARNING
1. Speedy transmission
It requires only few seconds to communicate through online
media because it supports quick transmission
2. Wide coverage
Communication around the world requires a second
only
3. Low cost
It saves times and money
4. Exchange of feedback
It allows instant exchange of feedback. So communication become
perfect
5. Managing global operation
Business managers can easily control operation across the globe.
Video conferencing, email and mobile communication can be used.
L.C Bovee said “electronic communication
is the transmission of information using advanced techniques such as
voice mail, video cassette and private television network”
DISADVANTAGES OF WEB BASED LEARNING
1. Cost of development
Electronic communication requires huge investments for
infrastructural development
2. Undelivered data
Data may not be distorted due to system error or fault with
technology
3. Dependency
Technology is changing every day therefore poor countries face
problems as they can‟t afford new technology
4. Security can be an issue
5. Most online assessment is limited to objective questions
6. Little or no face to face interaction
7. Lack of accreditation
8. It focus on theoretical knowledge instead of practice
9. Requires time management and self-motivation skills
10.Instructor may not always be available when students are studying or they
need help
11.Students feel isolated
As an online learning student, you will be able to study
anywhere that has an internet connection have the flexibility
to study when its most convenient for you become part of a
rich and varied online community students can enhance their
technology and internet skills work in comfort of your own
home
EFFRCTIVE WEB TEACHING AND LEARNING
Course designers need to remember that younger students are more likely
to be familiar with using the internet than older learners, who may feel less
comfortable with a wed based course. To get the best out their learning experience,
learners need basic computer skills, support, and guidance
Teachers must design their courses to encourage effective web
based learning rather than aimless “surfing.” Programme design should therefore
filter out poor information as well as signpost key information sources
Many clinicians are beginning to use electronic patient records.
This change means that doctors are becoming more adept at using computers and
online resources to support their daily work and continuing professional
development. Electronic media can facilitate access to evidence based resources
such as the Cochrane library. These web based clinical support sites are excellent
resources for postgraduate “on the job” learning.
SOCIAL NETWORKS
A social network service consists of a representation of each
user (often a profile), his or her social links, and a variety of additional services.
Social network sites are web based services that allow individuals to create a public
profile, create a list of users with whom to share connections, and view and cross the
connections within the system
Most social network services are web based and provide means
for users to interact over the internet, such as e-mail and instant messaging. Social
network sites are varied and they incorporate new information and communication
tools such as mobile connectivity, photo/video/sharing and blogging. Social
networking sites allow users to share ideas, pictures, posts, activities, events, and
interests with people in their network
Web based social network services make it possible to
connect people who make it possible to connect people who share interests and
activities across political, economic, and geographical borders.
The main types of social networking services are those that contain category places
(such as former school year or classmates), means to connect with friends and a
recommendation system linked to trust.
E-learning or web based learning is an alternative to traditional classroom
environment. Now the education field a fully handled by these type of platforms. It
shows effective use of teaching materials is the technology rather than design of
learning materials. But the use of electronic learning has its own merits and demerits.
Many abuse are also present regard to that. But these platforms can improve learning
and meaningful for learners.
